Sorry Dennis, you are no Russell Crowe.

Dennis Kucinich has never really moved me one way or the other. Honestly, other than the fact that he was mayor of Cleveland at 31, he has a very young wife, some big ass ears; and he claims he saw a UFO once, I don't know too much about the guy.

But Dennis Kucinich did something on the house floor today that was fucking heroic! He called for the impeachment of our Vice President, Dick Cheney. That act alone should get him a congressional medal of honor, and at least come consideration for our vote for the Presidency of the United States.

"Vice President Richard B. Cheney by such conduct is guilty of am impeachable offense warranting removal from office." What conduct is he talking about? Well, how about lying about a case for war and manipulating intelligence to get us into it? Unfortunately for us, and for our boy Dennis, Cheney is more like Denzel Washington's charecter (Frank Lucas) in "American Gangster", than the VP of the greatest power on earth. And he is probably...no correct that; he is just as ruthless.

Of course, as is always the case in Washington, things don't always go as they should. We can always impeach a guy for getting his whistle wet, but we don't even want a debate on whether to impeach a guy who got over 3,800 young men killed by lying through his teeth, and manipulating a clueless cowboy.

It seems Kucinich's own dumb-ocratic party voted down his resolution and tried their damnedest not to have a debate on the subject at all. Who wants to talk about impeaching our Vice President when the country is at war?( Well apparently over half of the A-merry-can people. And people wonder why congresses approval rating is even lower than the frat boys) So the weasels on the dumb-ocratic side voted to stifle a floor debate on the subject. And then, in typical sick twisted Washington fashion, the rethuglicans (120 of them) actually voted with some of the dumb-ocrats to force a floor debate. It seems they wanted to embarrass the dumb-ocrats with a one hour floor debate on the subject. In their own twisted thinking, this little act would show A-merry-ca that the the dumb-ocrats are beholden to the radical left wing side of their party, and thus cause them (The Democrats) to lose votes.

But not to be out slicked; the donkey party, led by Steny Hoyer, (D-Md ) voted 218 to 194 to send the motion to John Conyers and the Judiciary Committee. That's not good, because trust me on this one, it will remain there until hell is a very cold place.

Bottom line, there will be no floor debate on impeaching our VP. Because the people we elected to go to Washington and represent our interest are too gutless to do the right thing. As a result, the man who goes hunting with a confederate flag on his hunting lodge door. (See sidebar) The man who went hiding after 911. The man who has secret meetings with big oil companies. And the man who lies every time he opens his mouth, will continue to act like he is above the law, and we won't be able to do a damn thing about it.

Now that's gangsta!

Yeah, it's sad that he would probably be taken more seriously if he looked like Russell Crowe. Of course, the way the right dominates discourse in this country, any respect that would gain him would be lost the moment he opened his mouth anyway.

Mitt Romney in 2008! He looks the most like Ken!

I agree wholeheartedly with the author on this: Dick Cheney is a horrible VP who has committed terrible atrocities and nobody (but Kucinich) is doing anything about it.

It's not that Kucinich doesn't look like Russell Crowe; rather, it's because he's a perceived crackpot that he's not taken seriously. If a Dem with some respect were taking these actions (who could that be? I don't think one exists. Sadly.), we'd get some traction.

But we'll get nowhere with Kucinich. By the way, his actions have been heroic and ballsy. He's just the wrong guy to do it.

Jimbo, if Dennis looked like Mitt, would we listen then? :)

You can take it to the bank that the CBC members aren't going near this issue, and then will get pissed off with anyone who questions them about it.

OTOH, give Kucinich the "Honorary Field Negro of the Day" Award for having the guts to stand up and do the right thing.

He (Kucinich) did the damn thang and all they (the Dumb-o-rats) had to do was vote for it.
I believe the reason A-merry-cans voted them in was to do these types of things and they (dems) can't even back the guy that put the did the right thing. It goes to show that its a thin line between the dems and reps.
As time goes on it just seems like those in office aren't interested in justice... they're only interested in what they can gain (personally and for the big money people)... Cuz it damn sho look like they not doing what the people want. I hope to GOD that something changes in this country soon. I guess the only chance of that happening is mid 2009... which seems like a long time to keep screw'n shit up!!!

Pardon my english.

Crazy man!

Damien is right, we didn't put the Democrats in so they could sit on their hands.

The problem is Democrats are more scared of the Right Wing Noise machine than us. And they should be scared of us. Part of the problem is many believe the right wing smear attacks. The other part is we play into it when some of us joke about Kucinich's appearance and marginalize our own allies.

I disagee with saying that Kucinich is not the right person to do this. He is the only person to do this. He is a rare breed who does strictly what he believes is right regardless of politics.

Everyone else in the party saw what happened to Max Cleland. A Vietnam Vet in a wheelchair who was basically called a terrorist in 2002 and lost.

We need to put that kind of fear in our representative's hearts. We need to support Kucinich unequivocally, regardless of the smears and the UFO jokes.

Kucinich is showing the courage that a candidate worthy of the US presidency should have, which is precisely why he won't be elected. In one of Jack Nicholson's movies, his character said, "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" When it comes to Cheney, the US electorate can't handle the truth-- that Cheney, Bush and the entire Conservative Party has taken this country over the edge and to hell and we may never recover from it.

field, on another note, I hope you get to look at columnist John Ridley's piece on The Westboro Baptist Church. You may recall that this is a group of fanatics says American soldiers are dying in Iraq because America tolerates gays and go to dead soldier's funerals with signs that say stuff like, "Thank God for dead soldiers" or "God hates fags!" He can be read over at the Huffington Post. Blessings.

I sent Kucinich $25 today, not because I think he will win but because I want him to stay on the presidential stage for as long as he can saying the truth. I would have sent $250 but I am too poor.
Sad state of affairs when a patriot like Dennis is marginalized as a nutcase cause he has big ears and is short and true crazies like Guilliani are front runners.
I encourage others to send Dennis some $$ even if it is just a few bucks. I had more fun listening to him read the list of Cheney's crimes than I would have had with a nice dinner and a bottle of wine, or in my case buying hamburger in stead of beans.

I'm going to send some chump change and a few comebacks. For instance, when asked, "Have you seen any UFOs?", he could, "Yes, and they've been residing at the White House for the last seven years!"

Dennis Kucinich has a proven record for bravery, standing up to privatization of public electric company in Cleveland. "In 1998 the council honored him for having the "courage and foresight" to stand up to the banks and saving the city an estimated $195 million between 1985 and 1995", from Wikipedia. He has been totally marginalized by the powers that be . He is also well-informed on foreign affairs.

I'm not going near this and Denny boy need to be careful because you know how quick Dick is with that trigger finger; gotta agree with somebody who said the Dems are scarred they really don't want to be on the wrong side of the "are you a patriot" question. They need to learn that they need to let go and take the lead on closing this dark period of US history as opposed to waiting for the time to run out

Field, I honestly believe that to be the case.

Liberal Journal Man is right, by the way. The Dems are playing it safe now thinking the wind is behind them and as long as they don't say anything, they'll take control.

The only way you can force them to grow a backbone is by making them feel that WE are more dangerous to their political health than the Right Wing Noise Machine.

Give lib journal man a gold star on that one.

This just reinforces the decision I made a few years ago to leave the Democratic party because they supported the Patriot Act and going into Iraq. The Dems are going to lose in 2008 because they don't stand for anything. I really hate what the GOP has turned into (didn't like it before but now it's worse) but these guys are all about getting power and keeping it. The Democrats are just fearful and clueless. They confirmed a guy for AG who can't give a straight answer about torture? Get out of here with the Democrats.

Well before I continue, let's just point out that Congress' approval ratings will always be low, and that's the way it was meant to be. If you ask people to talk about their own representative, they're usually more positive, but when it comes to the whole Congress, they're not pleased. It's the "It's not my rep that's messin' it up, it's the rest of them" mentality. And that goes for both sides.

Second, I don't remember Kenneth Starr looking anything like Russell, or even a Tom Hanks. In other words, the Dems need to stop being chicken ish when it comes to their votes, ideas, and views. The Republicans are much more cut-throat and yet more than 50% of this country wants the Dems to fight back. Why do we need a man whose seen a UFO to bring the administration up on charges? These charges could stretch 75K-90K bodies long.

Ok, you guys are gonna make me revert back to being a CitIzen and vote for this guy. I've been biycotting my vote for decades (well, except in 2000..).

For me, the way to make them do anything is to make them fade away. We should put all our eggs in a basket and form a new party. There is no reason for us to stick with dems - ever! They wanted to be Republicans that big business likes and have politicians with groupie status, that's on them. We don't have to vote greens or Nader. Let's support people who will fight. Winning elections is not going to happen over night, but building momentum and a presence will eventually help win them.

Conscientious white and black people alike in this country will be faced with the prospect of choosing between GOP and Dems... the party of bad ideas versus the party of no ideas.

Problem is that third parties wouldn't work unless we changed from the current system to something like a parliamentary system where your party needs to form a coalition with others in order to govern. (A black interests party, btw, would have enhanced influence under that system because instead of just being Dems that sway the urban vote, you could tell a mainstream white leftist party that either they back you up or you withdraw from the coalition and the government collapses... all without you needing to go over to the dark side.)

You could call yourselves the Not for Sale Party and tell the Progressives that if they want you, it's going to take more than the Election Year Black Church Tour this time.

Ah, more pipe dreams.

There's a few good people in the democratic party, but, as a whole, it's gutless and favors big business just like Republicans. I have no respect for a majority party that allows a lameduck president run all over them.

I wrote an article calling for a black independent political party for a newspaper here in Minneapolis. If you shoot your e-mail address to me at: culturaldynamics@msn.com, i'll send get it to you. peace

Isn't it *because* Kucinich has ideas and courage like these that he gets smeared, called a crackpot, etc.?

Reagan had an astrologer in the White House, apparently, and Bush appears to believe in the Rapture. And these things are more easily verified than the UFO rumor.
