The defenders in the house.

Screen Shot 2015-07-29 at 1.28.25 PMSometimes the house Negroes among us are worse than the very racists who we like to call out from time to time.

I am thinking of Whoopi Goldberg and her side-kick , Raven Symone. These two modern day Aunt Jemimas found it necessary to get on television and defend Ellisabeth Hasselbeck after her clueless and ignorant statements about Sandra Bland.

"There are times, I’m sure, someone has, in the history of this land, used a cigarette against a police officer."

Now you will notice that I didn't say that what she (Hasselbeck) said was racist. Because, honestly, I don't know if she is a racist or not.  She might be just that stupid. But what I do know is that Whoopi, Raven, and yours truly, cannot say that she is not  a racist. This is what kills me about people like Whoopi Goldberg and other apologists for white folks who they think they know.

I mean not every incident of racism is as obvious as this, or this, or this. Sometimes racism is not so obvious. Your side-kick of seven years on a talk show who you might think you know, could be the one who goes home every evening and calls you all kind of N words before she goes to bed.

"Somehow, it’s no longer OK to pose a question that will give you an answer in order to best understand what’s going on,” Goldberg said, after playing the clip. “We’ve been friends for about seven, eight years and she has not asked me to pick any cotton.”

Of course not. "Picking cotton" is for field Negroes.

I get the sense that there is a lot of psychic stress experienced by the Talented Tenth, i.e. bourgeois middle-class blacks like Ta-Nahesi Coates. They basically live among white people according to white norms, but this creates in them a need to “keep it real” by defending and excusing the dysfunction of underclass blacks. It’s like how the most anti-colonial element of society in the former European empires was the Westernized native elite rather than traditionalist tribal elders.

In a saner world, the Talented Tenth would have an aristocratic attitude of protective paternalism toward black proles, in the spirit of Booker Washington. In actuality, black ethnocentrism, despite being a fundamentally conservative trait, gets filtered through the ideology of the white liberals who run post-white America.

So instead of straightforward tribal noblesse oblige, gentry blacks like our man the Field Negro, TNC, and even Obama live by the fundamentally dishonest and passive-aggressive code of leftism: all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. They lie that D’Shawntavious is their social equal, and the implausibility of that claim means they have to lie again by claiming that Whitey is a wrecker.

I actually kind of pity middle-class blacks who wish to be champions of their people even as they operate within an ideological framework created by leftists who despise their own people.

The idea is that the police should meet deadly force with deadly force. Yes you can construe that a cigarette can be used as a weapon to assault the office, in this case the officer had the intention to arrest this "smart-ass" Black women. We must deal with the fact that our threshold of assertiveness is much lower that the whites. Even with Black officers- they know that their behaviors towards whites might bring on the wrath of the white officers, so they too allow whites to "tear up tickets", cuss, as well as inquire about the officers' actions.

I am sorry that we as a people dd not grasp any real power post civil rghts. I will speak for myself, I was tired after fighting the 'good fight" during the sixties, as well as the fifties. Even now my voice carries no sense to our youth. And yes, when we struggle to get educated and financially moderate, the last thing we want to do is expose ourselves for people whom may think you are "Tomming". StillaPanther2

Whoopi is disgusting and a disgrace to the black race. However, there are 'many' like her and it has nothing to with economic class. There are house negroes at all levels of the spectrum.

Whoopi is not something new that has sprung up in the black race. Folks like Whoopi has been around since slavery. We are an unstable race when it comes to trust and support. Whoopi's kind will sell-out the black race in a NY minute.

Stupid Whoopi has it in her mind that Hasselbeck is NOT a racist. Therefore, anything Elizabeth says that smacks of racism, is NOT racist in Whoopi's mind.

Let's face it. Whoopi wants to identify as White. That's what fame will do to some Negroes. It will make them perverted. Elizabeth could care less about Blacks and that includes Whoopi.

It strikes me that most blacks have more in common with conservatives than liberals. Most African Americans are not crazy about mass immigration, gay marriage, or vegetarianism. It’s really only a vocal minority that are in the social justice crowd. The right candidate could successfully merge a conservative/ anti-immigration blacks alliance. Maybe not to win the black vote, but a significant chunk could be taken from a white dem.

South Africa, for instance, has passed tougher immigration laws due mostly to threatened black native workers.

Robert Conquest claimed “everyone is conservative about what he knows best” as his First Law of Conservatism. I’m sure he wasn’t the first to notice it.

Public school teachers are right-wing about public education, prison psychologists about sentencing, former Peace Corps volunteers about Africa, etc. But very often these people are left-wing about everything else. Instead of generalizing from their area of expertise to the entire world (“if the powers that be lie about what I know, they probably lie about everything else”) most people subconsciously assume that their area of expertise is an exception and that outside of it they’re getting factual information. People who’ve long ago concluded that the media lies about their own country’s politics believe what this same media says about other countries’ politics. Humans are just gullible by nature

Anonymous said...

"most people subconsciously assume that their area of expertise is an exception and that outside of it they’re getting factual information"

Unstated here is that this is the consequence and danger of horizontal-vertical media conglomeration. When a movie studio and a conventional broadcast/cable TV network are under the same corporate roof, then of course “news” can be goosed around in-house business concerns. Remember, at the moment, ABC, Fox News and CNN are owned by conglomerates (Disney, News Corp, Time-Warner, respectively) that are also in the movie business. And even in the cases of the other networks that aren’t technically in the same corporate houses as movie studios, interlocking directorships are so rampant that they might as well be.

It's a genuinely weird experience, and I admit that I am frustrated at being far less able to counter it to them than I am with white anti-black bigots. White bigots generally scowl, call me some slang equivalent of "racial sellout" then never bring the topic up around me again. Black anti-black bigots usually give me the wink & nod smile, as if to say "I know that you have to say that, but we both know I'm right" and just carry on as if nothing happened.

Thank you Anon for the kind suggestion . You, I must have faith that a supreme being knows it all and yes, I lean towards some form of Karma to bring a people back to having positive goals, not necessary American goals, but goals that allow us to be a part of society- without the baggage we carry. I am aware that not all share in a collective mindset. (I got mine, you get yours) but as long as society sees you as a part, then you have some skin in the game. But I do have hope because some of the people who write ion this forum are concerned about where we are as a race.

Soon "race" may be a thing of the past- my thoughts. My concerns are that we will be the ones changed. I see the order will be centered around the Blacks that have been vetted did someone say "house", the Blacks that sooth America- some field hands sure nuff know how to jig. Then the skin color will be used to bring some into the fold. AND last. The numerically lacking in numbers will be accepted.

Again, thank you Anon. My hope far outdistances my bitterness. Power to my people. StillaPanther2

This is the bitter truth. All of my life I have been stung by house Negroes posing as true field hands. They are for Whites, not Blacks. These evil ones are far worse than any white racist in America.

What makes them even more dangerously evil is they masquerade as a field hand but are by heart a house negro. Often one cannot detect them until it is too late to stop them from doing damage to Blacks. Whoopi is such a person.

John McWhorter objects to the anti-intellectual, religion-like screams of "heresy" which are spat at anyone (including himself, a black man) who challenges the religion of Anti-Racism:

One is not to question, and people can be quite explicit about that. For example, in the "Conversation" about race that we are so often told we need to have, the tacit idea is that black people will express their grievances and whites will agree--again, no questions, or at least not real ones. Here and there lip service is paid to the idea that the Conversation would not be such a one-way affair, but just as typical is the praise that a piece like Reni Eddo-Lodge’s elicits, openly saying that white people who object to any black claims about racism are intolerably mistaken and barely worth engagement (Eddo-Lodge now has a contract to expand the blog post into a book). Usefully representative is a letter that The New York Times chose to print, which was elicited by David Brooks's piece on Coates’s book, in which a white person chides Brooks for deigning to even ask whether he is allowed to object to some of Coates’s claims....

As such, even Brooks has gotten the religion, critiquing Coates’s book while also making sure to say that "every conscientious American should read it." Brooks, here, is genuflecting, as America now does in general to Antiracist scripture. One is to accept that beyond a certain point--and one arrives at the point quite quickly--one is to treat logic as optional and simply have faith....

The call for people to soberly "acknowledge" their White Privilege as a self-standing, totemic act is based on the same justification as acknowledging one’s fundamental sinfulness is as a Christian. One is born marked by original sin; to be white is to be born with the stain of unearned privilege.

The proper response to original sin is to embrace the teachings of Jesus, although one will remain always a sinner nevertheless. The proper response to White Privilege is to embrace the teachings of--well, you can fill in the name or substitute others--with the understanding that you will always harbor the Privilege nevertheless. Note that many embrace the idea of inculcating white kids with their responsibility to acknowledge Privilege from as early an age as possible, in sessions starting as early as elementary school. This, in [one] sense, is Sunday school.

Uh oh:

The U.S. intelligence community is bracing for the possibility that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's private email account contains hundreds of revelations of classified information from spy agencies and is taking steps to contain any damage to national security, according to documents and interviews Thursday.

The top lawmakers on the House and Senate intelligence committee have been notified in recent days that the extent of classified information on Mrs. Clinton’s private email server was likely far more extensive than the four emails publicly acknowledged last week as containing some sensitive spy agency secrets.

A U.S. official directly familiar with the notification, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity, said the notification of possibly hundreds of additional emails with classified secrets came from the State Department Freedom of Information Act office to the Office of Inspector General for the Director of National Intelligence.

I know Democrats only ever fail upward, but this whole situation is getting pretty damning. Maybe, just maybe violating basic national security laws, lying about it, and withholding and destroying evidence disqualifies you from running the country. It does for real countries.

She still has the whole lamestream media covering for her, but the Dems should at least start thinking about a Plan B.

Big housekeeping at the leftist propaganda organ known as MSNBC:

Shows being canceled outright include The Cycle, a multiple-host show similar to Fox’s The Five, Now with Alex Wagner, and The Ed Show. Politico reports that MSNBC President Phil Griffin is expected to make the formal announcement as soon as Thursday.

Not all of the hosts of the three canceled shows are leaving. Alex Wagner is expected to remain with the network as is Ari Melber, one of the co-hosts of The Cycle. However, TV Newser reports that Ed Schultz, Abby Huntsman, Toure, and Krystal Ball are "out."

The network’s decline is being blamed on the heavy focus on progressive commentary over straight news. A Pew Research report published in 2013 found that MSNBC was 85% commentary and 15% "factual reporting.

I blame Field. How is NBC supposed to make money telling progressive lies when people like Field are out there doing it for free?

Well said Field. Personally, I suspect Hasselbeck is both stupid and racist. I think there is a greater correlation between conservatism and racism than there is between conservatism and stupidity. Although there is a relationship between conservatism and stupidity. One study asked people in bars questions. The drunker people got, the more conservative their answers became.

Followup of a very large study went back to see who of the previously surveyed people had joined the Tea Party. The original study had people rank likes and dislikes. The followup found that the most racist Republicans were the ones who had joined the Tea Party.

I can also sympathize with being more offended by Whoopi than Hasselbeck. I suppose I could have complained about Sean Hannity on this website more since the topics are racism, but in general I complain about Rachel Maddow much more than I complain about Hannity. My feeling is that if people believe Hannity that's their own fault. Maddow is intelligent and she slips in the corporate lies more subtly. That offends me more. Hasselbeck probably believes her cigarette theory. People seem to side either with the cops or the victims automatically. Rodney King was a perfect example. Subconscious racism can cause cognitive dissonance. It doesn't have to be overt racism. And there are some people who won't believe anything bad about the victims. There are people who are sure that Michael Brown didn't rob the store in the video or fight with the cop. When it comes to Sandra Bland, my opinion is she stood up for all of us when she stood up for her rights. The cop very well could have been following her in the first place because she was black. It's hard to think how that arrest and escalation couldn't have been racism. But giving Darren Wilson a benefit of a doubt, that one could have been a revenge killing if Michael Brown hit him.

Sharon Kay:

A comrade brought this to our Political blog. I am posting here what I posted there.

I don't agree with Whoopi about Ellisabeth Hasselbeck’s comment. However, I do not agree with the mentality that has been fostered on Blacks to judge that unless you get rich and live in a predominantly Black area, you have forgotten what it is to be Black. That you have sold out.

Judgement which pronounces, just because a Black has friends of other races, they are no longer Black. Anyone who thinks it is easy given she works in an industry that prefers young and white, and is not seen as having the acceptable standard of beauty don't recognize what is and isn't.

Since Whoopie has taken numerous socially unpopular stands you know she will be her own woman come what may. Won't be pushed into the popular is something a Black woman understands well. She don't have to always be right, but that does not make her a "field negro."

And I damn sure do not agree with a Black calling a Black woman who helped open doors Aunt Jemima. If I wish to see someone insult another Black I will go and watch Fox News or some other program design to belittle us.

I have in the past enjoyed several of Howard Witt's articles and videos, but this is disappointing on many levels. Also that Aunt Jemima crap has several meanings. If Nikki Minga had said it he would have blasted her, but not called her Aunt Jemima
