I see the NAACP and a few well meaning folks in Motown had a rather large funeral service for the "N-word" today. I sure hope they invited everybody in America and not just the folks up in Detroit. Not that they would have come. I am quite sure that most folks in America don't believe the "N-word" is dead just yet. In fact, I am pretty sure that lots of them (Black and White) will be trying to dig old "N-word" up and giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation, or some type of shock therapy treatment or some shit.
Anyway, I was wondering; how did we kill old "N-word" in the first place? I see the funeral was in Michigan, which is where Doctor Jack Kevorkian is from. Did "N-word" have an assisted suicide? --That would have been appropriate I guess, a kind of controlled death so that we all can know exactly when he checked out. Or did he just die of natural causes? (I doubt that one) Did the NAACP just strangle or shoot him or something? I mean these are all important questions, because we have to make sure that he is dead. If, for instance, we thought we poisoned him, and we didn't give him a strong enough dosage, we could go back to the grave site tom morrow and old "N-word" would be gone. Can you imagine the headlines? "The NAACP thought they buried the "N-word" but now his grave is empty. The venerable civil rights organization has put out an all points bulletin for the "N-word" and have solicited the help of John Walsh and the folks at America's Most Wanted to help capture him." OK, I admit it, that's a bit extreme. But you have to admit that "N-word" could be hiding in plain view and no one would even notice him.
That's the thing about "N-word"; he could be anywhere. In our neighbors home, our local school, a place of business, a local grocery store, or even in our church. The NAACP will search all the usual places of course. The rap recording studios, the red neck trailer park s down in Alabama, and all the right wing and republican blogs. But "N-word" will be nowhere to be found. He is just too well connected and too influential to hide out in all the obvious places. "N-word" has friends in high and low places, and when you have that type of clout, you can hide for a very ling time. So good luck NAACP. Let's hope that scenario doesn't play out. Let's hope that you really did kill the "N-word", and he is dead and buried for good.
"Die N-word and we don't want to see you 'round here no more."
I hear you. But a word to the wise; make sure you keep checking his grave from time to time.
There are none so blind than those who refuse to see. I’m always amazed at people who have no knowledge about the power of thought and words and yet render opinions based on ignorance.
ReplyDeleteBefore the Kramer Richards, Don Imus’ incidents there was “Bury that Sucka” A Scandalous Love Affair With the N-word. Published: August 2005 much of today’s turn of events relative to the n-word was foreseen. The n-word is not just another word, it is a power, a negative, deep dark diabolical power that is not to be taken lightly as so many do. For further info go to http://www.burythatsucka.com
Call me a fool or ignint' but Friday I will be holding Séance to talk to the "N" word.
ReplyDelete& if That fails, I know where the body is barried so it may jump off at the grave site as well. I refuse to let the "N" word die because my vocab would be severely restricted. I cannot just cold turkey stop saying Nigga with friends etc.
I say the NAACP should have had a mock funeral fro something that needs one like the president for example.
i just hope the "n-word" doesn't rise on the third day... what a HOT MESS that would be!
ReplyDeletewhat's the use of n-word being dead if it's old ugly hateful attitude remains?
ReplyDeletehow can you bury or kill that?
Field, I thought this was one of your mor poignant entries. One that deserves to be in a newspaper or something like that. It is beautifully written and definitely provokes one to think. I can tell that the words from this entry just rolled right out of you. Sincere, but straight on. Loved it! But don't I love most of your entries? Yeah, I'm guilty.
ReplyDeleteHave a good one.
Thanks angie, I am starting to feel the juices flowing again. But how can I not with all that's going on?
ReplyDelete"Call me a fool or ignint' but Friday I will be holding Séance to talk to the "N" word."
OK, LMAO at that bigbaby comment.
"i just hope the "n-word" doesn't rise on the third day... what a HOT MESS that would be!"
another entry into the comments hall of fame from plez :)
Damn you guys are good!
Hey Field: I like this post. I despise the word "nigger" and I don't think we should use it. The NAACP having a mock funeral was okay. I am having mixed thoughts about it.
ReplyDeleteI think the NAACP is not the same as it was 20 years ago. They refuse to reinvent themselves. Bruce Gordon tried to enhance the relevance of the NAACP but they weren't having it. but back to the N word..
I agree with you; I hope they invited everyone to the funeral not just the people of Detroit. They also should have invited the Klan and other white people who wouldn't hesitate to call you or I a nigger in a heartbeat...
I commonly give refuge to cast out and the downtrotten.
ReplyDeleteThe N-Word has a comforty spot over here, and I dare anyone to restrict what words I can/should not use.
Who are you to tell me what and how to say or write anything!
Other groups have reclaimed certain words...for example: some in the LGBTQ community took on "Queer", some Jews took on "JAP" *Jewish American Princess*, some Mexicans took back "Wetback", some immigrants took back "FOB" *Fresh Off The Boat*. That is why language lives and evolves and changes by the people who use it and have an opportunity to mold it.
Nappy Hair and FIST UP!
Who are you to tell me what and how to say or write anything!
ReplyDelete& if That fails, I know where the body is barried so it may jump off at the grave site as well. I refuse to let the "N" word die because my vocab would be severely restricted. I cannot just cold turkey stop saying Nigga with friends etc.
This isn't about a word, this is about an attitude. An attitude of inferiority that says when I see them do a commercial on cavemen on tv, it is some secret code for me. This thing is about taking on all the negative characteristics that derive from that word. Words are never "just words", there is power in the spoken word.
The majority of people in hell will be there not because of what they did, but what they said...
Remember when you were a child, what hurt you more the whippings or the negative words being spewed at you?
The only problem I have is that the NAACP are not the ones to be holding a funeral for anything, but themselves. These brothers are soo tired it ain't even funny. They want to cling to the past and would rather die then recreate themselves. I say let them die, the sooner they die the sooner we can create something new to take its place.
Oh by the way I killed the N*word in 1982 and I admit sometimes it is hard not to resurrect it, but in order to gain something, sometimes something has to die...
There are many more wrong answers than right ones, and they are easier to find - Michael Friedlander

ReplyDeleteThe majority of people in hell will be there not because of what they did, but what they said..."
mark bey: Ok, Forgiven I was with you until you brought the gospel into this. How can YOU possibly know the reason why the majority of folks going to hell are going their because of what they say out of their mouths. Does the bible state this?
Just another reason why despise all religions because they influence intelligent people who do care and are good folks (like yourself) to say incredible silly things.
"The only problem I have is that the NAACP are not the ones to be holding a funeral for anything, but themselves. These brothers are soo tired it ain't even funny."
mark bey: Now I agree with this statement although I dont think we should encourage the Naacp to just die, I think we as black people need to hold our leaders and social organizations responsible and accountable to us because they work for us.
The Naacp should not be creating the agenda for advocacy of the black american population. All members and black contributors of the Naacp should create the agenda then make the Naacp do what it is the people want and need.
Also Forgiven I think the black church leadership has been just as bad if not worse than the Naacp.
Bottom line, the american black population needs its leadership accountable.
The problem with symbolic acts are that they are simply that, a symbol. Some people decided it was a good idea and wanted to put their idea on everyone else. As we know too well, that rarely works.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the world would be better without the word. However, many people disagree with me. The only way words fall out of fashion is through disuse or to become obsolete and I don't see that happening for this word. There is too much conflict surrounding it. Too many people just love to say it.
I understand the whole reclaiming it for the people argument but, in my opinion, it doesn't really do all that much good. Even in casual "friendly" use it has made me cringe. In loaded use it reminds me that not all that much has changed.
However, the NAACP speaks for very few and i don't think people are going to listen to them. Sadly, I think the word is here to stay.
" The problem with symbolic acts are that they are simply that, a symbol. Some people decided it was a good idea and wanted to put their idea on everyone else."
ReplyDeletemark Bey: I agree with this, in order to really get rid of the Nword we are going to have change mentally and their will have to be a campaing to change the way we think.
Some how in order for this to work we have to turn the N-word into a dirty word the way the rethuglicans turned liberal into a dirty world.
Although unlike the the rethugs our marginilizing the Nword would be a righteous and holy thing.
mark bey: Ok, Forgiven I was with you until you brought the gospel into this. How can YOU possibly know the reason why the majority of folks going to hell are going their because of what they say out of their mouths. Does the bible state this?
ReplyDeleteFor by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Matthew 12:37
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
And the list goes on...The Word is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is salvation to those who heed it...
I agree the Black Church like many modern churches have lost their way, they have allowed the world to influence them and they have lost their power. I would never try to make anyone say or stop saying anything, because in the end we are all defined by what words we use and what attitudes we take on. I just know for me, I have to remove the shackles that bind me to the past and all its negativity. Who am I to tell anyone what they can and cannot say. I just choose to be around those who are positive and are not allowing others words to define them...You can call me a chicken, but until I start laying eggs it means nothing...
"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Matthew 12:37

mark bey: Those quotes still do not say that the majority of people going to hell are going their for what they say, also their are other reasons why folks are going to hell according to the bible perhaps those other reasons make up the majority of reasons why folks are going to hell.
"I just choose to be around those who are positive and are not allowing others words to define them...You can call me a chicken, but until I start laying eggs it means nothing... "
mark bey: Amen to this, absolute truth the quickest way to make progress in life is to have friends and family that get on you hindparts when your not doing right or your best.
"And the list goes on...The Word is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is salvation to those who heed it..."
ReplyDeletemark bey: Many different sects/religions make this claim, while claiming their holy text (or interpretation of that text)is "THE WORD".
I kinda see things this way, the fact that god allows more than 1 religion to even exist and call itself "THE WORD" is proof to me that if god does speak to people through religion then he speaks to them through more than one religion.
Otherwise why would a bieng that is all powerful and wants his children to find him through a specific religious philosophy allow hundreds of them to exist. Dont make sense to me brotha.
Any you can keep your christianity Ill keep following my spiritual beliefs I like mine better because my beliefs dont insist all people who dont share my beliefs are going to hell.
Sorry brotha forgiven but that clause alone confirms the backwardness and untruthfulness of your religion.
Also on the church thing although other churches are backwards as well the black church serves a population that is suffering a whole lot more than the one the white churches serve and in light of the aids situation (and others) going on in the black community I find their behavior and non leadership to be absolutely reprehensible.
I kinda see things this way, the fact that god allows more than 1 religion to even exist and call itself "THE WORD" is proof to me that if god does speak to people through religion then he speaks to them through more than one religion.
ReplyDeleteThere are many levels of enlightenment that God allows Himself to be seen through. I have never claimed to have the only answer, nor have you heard me try to convert you or anyone else to anything. The problem with the modern Church and Christians is that they are trying to convert people to their beliefs. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to convert anyone to anything. The only conversion that Jesus talks about is to be converted into a little child to inherit the Kingdom of God. As an Orthodox Christian my only purpose is to introduce you to the One who sent me, what happens after that is between you and God. My purpose is not to convert you to Orthodoxy or any other religion, it is not to teach the Bible, or to save your soul. Those things only God can do, but if I don't introduce you to Him, he won't be able to do any of it. And of course with your cooperation, God will never force Himself on any man...
So don't prejudge me based on people you have met in the past, I am not the one...
"I have never claimed to have the only answer, nor have you heard me try to convert you or anyone else to anything."
ReplyDeletemark bey:It aint just you, its the collective hypocristy and ignorance that many christian, muslims and folks of all other religions display to put their beliefs on a pedestal while disrespecting other folks beliefs.
Also you made some foolish statments such as the majority of people are going to hell because of what they say, the quotes from the bible you left here did not say that. This my problem with all religions is that they make absolute and universal statements that sometimes thier religious text dosent say and are utterly ridicilous.
The classic example is the black church spreading fairy tales about aids when based on what the bible actually says the bible never says that god would curse gay folks with aids.
They still continued to do this even while aids was ravaging black women and making black children who are around 15% of the child population but 67% of the children born with aids over all. To someone like me who loves learning, science, debate and truth this is a little more than I can stand without wanting to hurt somebody.
Especially when I think about the 15 churches within 15 minutes of my home and yet in my community people are being ravaged by aids. The aids issue in dc is way out of control, it was out of control 5 years ago and still the churche that surrond my home are doing nothing. Every black church should be testing, treating and counseling on aids. Until then black folks in my community (including many formerly gorgeous shapeyly women) will continue to wither away and die. A lot of these folks have kids so by ignoring this issue and allowing folks to die the black church is helpign to create more black foster kids and I wont even get into the survival rates and statistics of black foster kids it truly hearbreaking.
" My purpose is not to convert you to Orthodoxy or any other religion, it is not to teach the Bible, or to save your soul. Those things only God can do, but if I don't introduce you to Him, he won't be able to do any of it. And of course with your cooperation, God will never force Himself on any man..."
mark bey: My purpose is not to convert you, in fact my righteous and holy attacts against the out of control hypocrisy by the black church and christians who attend those churches will only increase until the church leads on issues that are causing black americans their life.
Now once the church reforms itself and truly leads then I have no more beefs and my attacks upon them will stop immediately and I will wholeheartedly join thier effort.
Also brotha your statement implies thatI and others who dont share your christian beliefs are missing out on something and need to be saved which is more foolishness you cannot back up with proof. You can only back those statments up with "FAITH" which is not proof.
Also when you talk about god not forcing himself on me or anyone else please keep in mind that you are refereing to your concept of god not forcing himself on me and others which is a concept and a billion other folks reject and find ridicilous.
Having said that I get the feeling that you are a genuine christian trying to live as best you know how and this I respect you for. However your statement that the majority of people are going to hell because of things they say is still off base and misuse of the bible because you still have not shown me were the bible actually says the majority of people are going to hell for what they say. This is yet another reason why I really dislike all religions and grow to dislike them more and more because even decent well meaning folks like yourself make mistakes on the interpretation of what the bible says to fit their agenda.
So even though you claim you are not the one, you are the one who introduced an ignorant and untrue statement (untrue accordng to the qoutes YOU provided)into this thread and that is something that has always and will always drive me crazy because some folks try to make law and policy based on religious misinterpretations and prejudices.
Im sorry brotha but what you said is ridicilous and I got a major problem when you misqote the bible and then try to use that biblical misqoute to make a point.
That aint cool even if you are a good brotha which I believe you to be.
You have the right to all that you say and believe. I pray for you and hope you find God wherever He may reveal himself to you. The things you have attributed to me are incorrect, but you know what that's ok. Again, I am not trying to convert you or convince you of anything. Due to your religious prejudices you have missed everything I have tried to say, so with that I agree to disagree.
ReplyDeleteI will always accept being a fool for Christ.
May God bless you.
*Yawn*.
ReplyDeleteWill the NAACP ever find its way back to the real work?
Mark/Forgiven,
ReplyDeleteNo disrespect to either of you, but as someone who does not believe in your God I'll just ignore the preacher's war that is going on and comment on the topic at hand.
Ironically, the word "nigger" is in many ways just like religion. Those who use it the most would love to keep it around(both still procure enormous amounts of money for the white man at the expense of blacks). On the other hand, they could bury it tomorrow and it wouldn't mean a thing. The damage has already been done.
A word only has the value that we give it. I have said many times that if we simply stop letting it control us, then others would probably just let it die. Instead we have done the opposite - so while the word doesn't have much value to those who use it in the open, it has more value than ever to those who use it in private
"Mark" I really feel you!!
ReplyDeleteMust be getting "paid" some kind of way "sell out" when you put your women on the firing line instead of your punk butt! Then wonder why black women want anything BUT a black MALE.
Now copy DAT!
(Revoke my "black card" - again - and blame it on someone else? Cowards. Like I dont know "charlie" has a tap-in, and "pooky" too.)
And FN, ignore the stupid stuff.
Cassandra
forgive:" The things you have attributed to me are incorrect, but you know what that's ok."
ReplyDeletemark bey: Really here is the qoute by you that brought this awhoopin down upon you.
forgiven:" The majority of people in hell will be there not because of what they did, but what they said..."
mark bey: My response to this qoute was, I agreed with a lot of your comment, but you went wrong when you brought hell into the comment. I also asked you for proof.
Forgiven: "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. Matthew 12:37
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
And the list goes on...The Word is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is salvation to those who heed it..."
mark bey: Ok, that is the qoute YOU provided to prove your remark that I questioned. No where in the qoute you provided does it say that the majority of people will go to hell for the words they speak.
The qoute does say that people will be codemned for their words but it dosent say the majority of people bieng condemed will be condemned for their words, that is a big difference my brother and you are smart enough to know it.
The qoutes dont even say that half of the people going to hell are going their because of what they say.
So dont sit here and say I misqouted or misrepresented you when your words are here for everyone to see.
Also dont give me this crock of we agree to disagree I actually agreed with some of the points you made when you said that words have great impact and they do carry great weight sometimes more than physical beatings. This is an accurate observation by you in my opinion.
However you then tried to associated a secular point with spirituality and when you went out and got a qoute to back up what you said it didnt back up what you said so dont try to make out like I mirepresented and I havent made my point becauese I have. In fact I left exact quotes by you up above that dont add up to what you put out their by your own choice of words. YOU choose to bring religion into this argument so dont get mad at me when I ask you for proof and then if I point out to you that the proof you claim doesnt back up what you say.
My point has been made and I didnt misrepresent anything you said.
The qoutes you got are supposedly the word of god (which I dont believe) and yet and still you use them to back up a point which does not correspond to those quotes(word of god). Alls Im saying is, If your gonna holy roll at least get your bible quotes right since after all you claim they are the word of god.
Also show me where the bible says the majority of people are going to hell for what they say or at least have the intellectual decency to retract your false statement and dont give me this crock about we agree to disagree because I said up front I agreed with you until you started with the holly rolling.
SO MY QUESTION TO YOU FORGIVEN IS, DO YOU RETRACT YOUR STATEMENT THAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO HELL FOR WHAT THEY SAY OR ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE HOLLY ROLLING AND IGNORING THE FACT THAT THE QOUTES YOU PROVIDED TO PROVE YOUR POINT DONT PROVE YOUR POINT.
Get your qoutes from the bible right Forgiven because If not then I reserve the right to bust you upside the head with your false and ignorant statements.
And please stop with the we agree to disagree or you have been misrepresented business if you are not going provide some back up of where you were misrepresented. The only back up of misrepresentation was provided by me and they were your quotes and your statements that did not add up to what you claimed.
I read that Wizbang article on the sidebar, and those guys have pretty much gone beyond the point of no return.
ReplyDeleteAs for the n-word, the easiest way to stop it is to let people know you will not be called out of your name. If someone calls you a "nigger" or a "nigga," even as a term of endearment, you have to tell them, "Hey, I don't like being called that."
As for those who say they are "taking the word back," I say, that's ridiculous. That word has blood on it, and evil all around it. Nothing good can come from it, ever.
I don't want the castoffs of white racists.

Just browsing the internet, very interesting blog
ReplyDeleteWhy does this damn word keep gaining so much momentum? I am so sick of it!
ReplyDeleteOMG - i am rolling at Bygbaby's comment!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% We work with the N-Word and don't know it, we live by the n-word, and don't know it - it will never end...
Wouldn't it be nice to see the NAACP bury poor school performance for our nation's children? What about burying the shopping frenzy that has financially disabled so many of our people??
SO MY QUESTION TO YOU FORGIVEN IS, DO YOU RETRACT YOUR STATEMENT THAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO HELL FOR WHAT THEY SAY OR ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE HOLLY ROLLING AND IGNORING THE FACT THAT THE QOUTES YOU PROVIDED TO PROVE YOUR POINT DONT PROVE YOUR POINT.
ReplyDeleteForgive me my brother if I have offended you.
If it will make you feel better you are right. The quote states that we all will be condemned by our words, but obviously in your mind this does not entail condemnation to hell. So for the sake of peace I am wrong and you are right.
I humbly ask forgiveness from anyone I may have offended. I didn't realize the level of religious prejudice here. I will in the future keep my comments to myself.
A fool’s mouth is his destruction,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
The whole thing's a joke. A stunt by a largely ineffectual NAACP. I was in Chik Fil A not ten minutes ago and bunch of 15 year olds were freely using it. This kind of stupid foolishness actually has the opposite effect. We need to go back to the old school value of "bettering yourself" (one which folk whose parents/grandparents from Islands never gave up). Instead of nonsensical coffins, just come out and have a press conference: if you're using the term for art's sake, or to record a coarse conversation or in a scholarly piece or news report, fine, other than that, use or over use means you are a useless scumbag who has no self-respect. We still haven'tovercome this timidity about being labelled Uncle Toms merely because we want folks to act halfway decent and like they have sense.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Chris.
ReplyDeleteJust like the CBC, the NAACP is pulling this to act like they're still relevant in the discourse of civil rights.
Just like the CBC is insisting on going forward with the Fox News Debate a couple of days before CBC Legislative Weekend.
When they started taking corporate checks, that eagle flew the coop and isn't trying to come back.
Julian Bond still allowing Andy Young to hang around, even after Andy sold out to Wal-Mart and any other corporation willing to give him a check, makes my head hurt.
To Mark and Forgiven:
ReplyDeleteI want to remind you both of the incident when Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement (Acts 9 or 10).
They parted ways, but after a time, God allowed them to reconcile.
You both make good points; however, I feel led to remind you both of this biblical scripture:
"In so far as it depends on you, live at peace with EVERYONE."
(Romans 12:2)
I remember that scripture when trying to support George Bush's war, and after reading it, I couldn't do it because Bush isn't trying to live at peace with everyone.
Not that I would ever support Bush's war, but tell that to my Christian friends who voted for this bastard just because he said "Jesus stopped him from drinking".
Now they face a bad economy, joblessness and damn near homelessness because they voted for a "Christian".
By their fruit you will know them...so keep up the debate, but don't allow bitterness between you.
i don't think we will ever get rid of the N word....unless someone bombs the BET offices...
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I've always preffered the word negro, as in "nude negro law".
ReplyDeleteWhat's sad to me, is that the N word is radio language now. On one of the two hip-hop radio stations that are played in Arkansas, I've heard the N word in a song over the radio; the funny thing is, they bleeped out ass, but the N word can be said?
ReplyDelete
