If you are a famous white person with a race problem

you might want to call Al.

I hate to bash Reverends on back to back posts, but sorry, I just have to get with the permed Reverend of race on this one.

Al, please tell me that you aren't advising "Dog The Bounty Hunter" on how to get over his race problem now. My goodness man, when these ass holes --who didn't get the white memo on using the "N" word in public-- call you, can't you just once say; "sorry, speak to your own pastor or go and spend some quiet time soul searching with yourself?" Why must you stop the fucking presses every time to put your mug out there? I mean what kind of shit is that? Popular white guy goes on a rant and drops the "N' word and he calls you to absolve him on behalf of all black people. I bet David Duke has your ass on speed dial. "Hello Reverend, it's me, David Duke, yeah I just called some guy a nigger that cut me off". Can you absolve me of that little sin?" Sure David, the National Action Network will send you a bill."

I wonder what would happen if some no name hick in West Virginia called the good Reverend and wanted his advise and counsel to help him with his bigotry? Do any of us think the good Reverend would respond in the same way? "Hi Mr. Sharpton, this is Billy Bob Hick, and I just told my daughter that she better not bring any niggers into our home. I think I am a racist, can your National Action Network help me?" Hello Mr. Sharpton, hello, are you there?.....

I swear, it must be nice to be Al. Why can't I get a gig like that? Tell you what "Dog the Bounty Hunter", why don't you give me a call? I promise I will absolve you on behalf of all black people for a much lower fee. I will charge you $1,000 for every "N" word you dropped on that voice mail. I didn't hear the entire tape, but I counted three "N" words from what I heard. That's a measly $3,000. I bet that's a lot less than you are going to end up paying the good Reverend. Hell, you will pay that in air fare alone just to go to meet the guy. I can joke about this story, because I must admit that when I first heard it, I wasn't as upset as most other black people. Even after reading a great post from my man "Angry Independent" over at the Mirror On America blog. (See sidebar) Because, quite frankly, I am not surprised. This type of behavior is par for the course as far as I am concerned. But then I saw where Dog called Sharpton, and now we are back to the white man forgiveness tour again, and........

Honestly, when you think about it, isn't Dog the Bounty Hunter's views representative of quite a few white folks in this country? (Readers of this blog excluded of course) Unfortunately for Dog, he just happened to be famous, and some rag got a hold of his private phone conversation. Can you imagine some of the private phone conversations and discussion over dinner tables going on with ordinary white folks all over A-merry-ca? I just wish that one day one of these famous folks would be honest and say; "yes I used the word nigger, becausee I really don't like black folks." I would at least respect that person, and I am sure most black people feel the same way that I do.

Now there is one black person that wouldn't like it, because then he would actually have to start working for a living.

**Thanks "baatin" for your link to this story**

  1. Field,
This is a very popular subject today. I read about this on 6 different sites before I blogged about it. But like you said, this shit does not surprise me at all. But I guess that since America thinks that the Good Reverand Dr. Sharpton speaks for all 34 million of us black folks in this country, it only makes sense that Dogg would go to him. I guess we will reading about how he checked himself into a rehab center tommorow.

    AMERIKKA, u gotta love it!

Field, none of what the Dog said is surprising, of course. What's crazy, however, is that the good reverend is going to the man's rescue. I mean, I simply don't understand this. So what is brother Al suppose to tell this dude? Make sure no one's recording the conversation next time? Only speak in person when you feel the urge to use the N-word and make sure there are no wires poking out from your shirt collar? Al needs to stop the madness. The Dog was simply being who he is: a Dog.

Whewwww! I almost made it. Almost managed to tip off to dreamland after commenting a minute ago about Rev. Donnie.
Well, why should any of us be surprised-- as you say Field? The N word out of Dog doesn't surprise me. His going to Rev. Al doesn't surprise me. We've all been here before. A&E will rattle a hiatus stick for Dog's show, A&E will then back off the hiatus and we'll see Dog in photo ops with Al or his spiritual advisor who he says is black. Then we'll see Dog's arm around Al. Getting out of cars with Al. . .Having heartfelt talks with Al.
And I too would finally like one of these supposed "good" people to admit that, dammit, they truly say ugly, racist things and they meant it when they said it. Now that would surprise me. . .

I was watching Hannity and Colmes and a sister from Sharpton's organization was on.

Hannity basically asked now that Dog has apologized would the National Action Network help him out.

Sister said, "No." She wasn't feeling it at all. It was funny to see her. She said it wasn't their to help him out.

Anywho, if white people want to tap dance to Al or Jesse be my guest. I have no problem with it.

And they go to him because they think he's the only Black man with a large Black audience. Though I've never heard his show (along with most Black people).

Personally I think its nothing to be upset over. If people were more active and less commentator on what other folks are doing things would be different.

I somehow wonder if we put too much time and energy into pointing out misled brothers and sister, because the end result is that this blog entry let the Dog off the hook for his ignorant comments?

I'm saying this because this is giving too much material for the racists to work with. They love when we cut each other.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Anonymous8:40 AM

It doesn't let Dog off the hook. He's a racist. Another white racist. Add him to the list of millions of other white racist. Us blogging about or condemning Dog isn't going to make him all of the sudden see the light. All it does is give him more time in the lime light. What we should do is just ignore him. Stop watching his show and move on. Al or Jesse getting up on tv shows and "condemning" Dog is only going to bring more attention to him and allow other white racist (and apologetic house negroes) to rally behind him (See also Imus). What Al and his people need to do is just ignore it and decline coming onto TV shows to discuss this shit. All it does is distract from the real issues we should be focusing on. I mean really...a bounty hunter named Dog makes racist comments...Is that really something newsworthy?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am hoping that the Rev. Al has sense enough not to let "Dog" off the hook when they have their meeting. TMZ posted the letter that the Rev. Al sent to "Dog". Here is the link for anyone who's interested:

    http://www.tmz.com/2007/11/01/rev-al-to-dog-chapman-march-with-me/

By the way FN, I counted 6 uses of the "N" word by "Dog" so that would be $6,000 in your pocket if he was to come to you for help.

  12. I don't know field, it's still cheaper than adopting an African baby for ratings.

It seems white racist celebrity "rants" are becoming a big popularity hit these days with white society. As long as you "apologize" after (of course), you can spew out what most white people want to say in public and become a heroic icon amongst your own (yet most white people will play along and pretend they're so appalled by your behavior). Everyone wants to do it, it's an epidemic I tell yah... more to come!

I honestly think it's a sinister plot to desensitize blatant racism against black people. If only Al know that'll eventually put him out of business for sure.

  13. Malcolm, thanks for the link, and thanks for that accurate accounting of my dollars.

If you need a job as an accountant let me know :)

azziza, I hear you about time spent on this, when we all know this is par for the course behavior. But I am not really trying to get with Dog, because he is what he is. Just one more ignorant ass racist in A-merry-ca. I am just put off by this wole notion of the absolvtion (is that a word woozie?) of racism by our civil rights leaders, because some clown wants to get his career back on track.

Honestly there is nothing to apologize for. He meant every word of what he said. I dont see how running to Al is going to help him.

I emailed A&E several times and asked them not to re-new his show.

Only in AmeriKKKa can an ex-criminal crackhead get his own show busting current criminals because he is white.

Just block his paper by calling A&E and expressing your displeasure and let them know that you will contact their advertisers as well.

  16. Field, before I even knew Al was getting involved I predicted it on my blog: he's a whore and his intjection in this is more dispiriting than Nas and his foolishness regarding the word.( I have the audio of the conversation if you want to check it out...) www.natturnersrevenge.blogspot.com

  17. PS--this is akin to what Tom Wolfe wrote about in Bonfire of the Vanities. Didn't anyone pick up on the fact that when Bill O'Reilley got into his crap up at Sylvia's in Harlem, he was lunching w/Rev Al? Hell I'd bet Anne Coulter's sleeping with Michael Eric Dyson! Whores, all of them...and we allow ourslves to be the tricks. If one day we find out that Dubya's a beer buddy with Osama Bin laden (they clearly need one another)well, my point is proven to a horrific end...

  18. Actually, I have no problem with these assholes calling up Al Sharpton. It must kill them to have to tap dance for the man all white people in this country despise.

Fuck'em and let'em dance. I'm not going to fall for bashing Sharpton. Perhaps he's the only only one shameless, tacky, an loud enough to bring light to some issues that need to be known about. If he has a side job as a racist choreographer making those assholes tapdance, more power to him. I'll take him over a million "Cos'" anyday. Pimp Perm and all.

Besides, what the hell is A&E thinking putting this guy on the tube in the first damn place. Yawn...wake me when they have a BLACK bounty hunter working out of Utah. Now THAT would be some must-see-t.v fo' yo' ass.

  19. Well, Well, Well:

You can be a closet bigot until it hits close to home.

Looks like Dog didn't learn his lesson when he got extradited for bounty hunting in Mexico looking for Andrew Luster (Max Factor heir date-raping women). He slept at night knowing his children weren't going to bring any n0ggers home.

And his rant was all for naught. A & E is tying up loose ends to get rid of his ass.

First, it was Don Imus. Now it's Dog Chapman.

And if Sharpton's collecting a check, he's probabaly not getting paid enough to provide these bigots cover with the communities they have offended with their schtick. All their calls to Sharpton when shyt hits the fan is further weakens his credibility (whatever he has left, that is).

What pisses me off is that these bigots can't call anyone else with street cred in the black community other than Al or Jesse, and I know we have other blacks who are known and with more credibility than these two extortionists.

  20. AWB--I'd agree if this was such a world, but it's not. Al is a whore, b/c we live in the age of whoring for the media and power above all else. Ever see that episode of "Boondocks" where NLK, Jr. comes out of a secret coma, and, already pissed off and despondent over the state of the USA and the GOP/Bush/Cheney/Fox News, what puts him over the edge is the state of black America? He's watching Rev Al and a buch of rappers and self-aggrandizing pastors and decides there and then to move to Canada! And yes, his parting words: "And to hell with y'all niggas." With great and powerful emphasis, and with no Nas-style reclamation. In the face of all of this, we were acting like the word implies. For the 100th time, that Al hangs wth Bill O'reilley is no accident. But I'll back on this--the reason he can is simply because we don't have any leaders with the intelligence and/or balls to do and say what needs to be done and said. Not a single black mayor--even Corey Booker or Adrian fenty. Not a single member of the CBC, or hell no not Barack "The Human Hope Machine" (regardless of your political philosophy, what a disappointment that dude is!).

In the meantime, we have Dog's sick "apology" and the usual white enabling crap machine fully engaged with no one of substance getting up and say this dude needs to get smacked down. His is a metaphor for the failure of Dubya to promote a just society and elevating fanatics and trivial fools to power. Al is ours...

And yes, I count Cosby as an asset, not a liability. Without Cos, the people who defend Dog would have even MORE ammo...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Chris,

I don't think you can condemn Al as a whore and then count the "Cos" as an asset. I'm sorry, I don't remember Cos holding it down with the Jena Six, Genarlo, the Duke case ect. Instead he's on meet the press trumpeting the same old bullshit for the same old crowd. If Al is a whore, than so is the "Cos", figuratively and literally as it turns out.

Honestly, I think Al is as despised as he is among white folks-both racists and so called "progressives" because he loudly, obnoxiously, calls attention to racist bullshit that they don't want to hear about or acknowledge.

Not a one of you so-called radicals running down Al and Jesse can name one thing that you have done that they haven't done. Calling the man a whore becasue he knows how to make money while doing the work that he does is straght bootie. Are you a whore because you manage to get paid for doing whatever it is that you do? You aren't getting paid for your opinion, that's for damn sure, but Al and Jesse are.

Why do you give two shits if anyone calls on any Black person to seek help for his/her racial issues? They aint gonna get the help they need from nobody white, that's for sure.

Why do you care if the mainstream media chooses to publicize it when people reach out to Al and Jesse, (because neither of them called Dog)? The media have their own agenda and it's to drive a wedge between us, and by your hating on Al and Jesse you are helping them achieve thier goal. And to what end? What exactly is it that Al and Jesse have done that was to the detriment of you and your people? Don't bother answering that question if you are white. We already know that they are thorns in your side.

Do you know why Al was eating with O'Reilly? or do you even care? Maybe Al felt he had a good reason to sit down with the man, and then had the good sense to take him to a Black owned establishment and make him pay. If you think it was to garner more media attention, then so fucking what! Al and Jesse need media attention to be able to accomplish the things they do get accomplished. That is their M.O. it works for them, so why the fuck are you HATING!!!???

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR US LATELY? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CALLED A PRESS CONFERENCE AND SPOKE OUT AGAINST THE MANY PROBLEMS FACING THE BLACK COMMUNITY TODAY?

As usual, the media are missing the major points. It's not that he used a racial slur as a slip of the tongue. It's that he gave his child an ultimatum: Dump your woman so we can continue to revel in our racism or cancel your livelihood with us. He then proceeds to talk about how he would tell his daughter "F***" you if she brought home a black guy for the same reasons. In other words, rather than turn away from being a racist, I want to keep that behavior and hide it, even though I know it's wrong enough to cost me my fame.

Here's the thing: I always wondered why there weren't that many black people on that show in terms of fugitives. I always chalked that up to our people being responsible with bond. But now I'm wondering, does A&E just not show the footage of black captures because there's language in it that would kill the show? I wish the media would investigate whether there is any footage of such things, and whether or not A&E hid his nature for their profit.

So, as someone who watched and tivo'ed the show, I am done. I'm in exactly the situation that Dog reviles, a sister married to a white guy. He'll never get another of my minutes on TV. Period.

And I agree with the previous comment on Cosby. Funny how even though his son was killed by an admittedly racist immigrant I have yet to hear a peep from him about the illegal immigration issue. Go on Fox and talk about that! And when his wife discussed it, they quickly shut her down. His lack of evenhandedness about all issues facing our community (one of which is illegal immigration's effect on the jobs) gives me pause.

I think Chapman would be better served if he had contacted Nas. They could then spin it that he was in collaboration with the rapper to take the power away from the N-word. Chapman and Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld) could then go on tour with Nas after he drops his new CD. They could be his opening act. The can dub it: "The Reclaim The N-Word Tour." All will then be forgiven.

wow. living proof that the pup CAN fall far from the dog, huh? thing is though, doesn't this shit almost seem a little too contrived? i mean, he mentions THE VERY tabloid which broke the story! anyways, it's all over for this dude in the mainstream. i think he could start some country reality show that 'they' would still buy. personally, i've never enjoyed his show: they come off as self righteous justice wielding freaks, who tend to go after the natives living in paradise. too much manifest destiny shit with dog. love the pick with house negro al though. they should do a hair commercial together. that'd shit would top youtube charts, and sell more than TI records.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, look at it this way: this is living proof that people CAN overcome the racist garbage from their parents... a white guy being with a black girl has to evince some level of open-mindedness.

And Exodus Mentality, I don't think FN is necessarily putting down the work that Rev. Al does (I'm white and never appreciated how he never apologized for that Tawana Brawley incident, but I sure as hell appreciated that 2004 Dem convention "Ride that donkey" speech) but rather he's talking about how by setting himself up as Emperor of the Black People, Rev. Al has helped create a farcical situation where every time some white dude decides to let everybody know what he really feels about black people, he thinks that he can just make the problem go away by getting absolution from the Reverend, as opposed to actually confronting the problem of his own prejudice.

But that doesn't mean FN is saying bringing attention to the Jena 6 wasn't worthwhile, or was somehow cancelled out by Rev. Al's grandstanding.

Has Rev. Al blessed white dudes' racist problems away. I'm thinking no. So it doesnt work but they go anyway.

I dont have a problem with them going on his show or any other Black person's show. Right now, it happens to be Al they go to.

Where are the other public figures? And at least they will get a relevant question or two. I guess they could always go on Larry King. He'd ask all the hard question.

No one ever said because a racist went on Al Sharpton's show that mean he is to be forgiven by all Black people.

I think some Black people who are up in arms have sold that idea to themselves. Because no one else has said that.

Well other than White conservatives who rip ANY damn Black person who dares talk about race.

  34. Anonymous6:24 PM

Al Sharpton is "whoring himself" and "grandstanding" in this stupid situation? Really? I'm going to assume that some of you have actually read what Sharpton said in response to Chapman's request. The way I read it, he was as dismissive of Chapman as he could be, given the constraints of PR. He in effect said "I'll meet with you, but I'm not going to make any special effort to do so". Sharpton also said he didn't call on A&E to fire Chapman, but he wasn't going to call on A&E not to fire him, either. To my mind, Sharpton said in so many words "Look, I won't refuse to talk to you, but know that I don't much give a shit about you, or what you said".

Still, Sharpton is being raked over the coals here. Interesting.

These people CHOOSE to go to Al Sharpton and there is no reason for him to not talk to them if he wanted.

Sorry, I'm feeling too many Black people their time critiquing others rather than doing something.

You even see it in the blogosphere. Field, we know you do work with people, trying to make a difference but I don't feel that vibe from most people.

I think most people sit back talking the talk and have never once walked the walk.

Too many of those who talk shit about Sharpton are even bigger bullshit artists who haven't done a damn thing.

For all the people Sharpton turned away there should have been someone willing to fill that void he left. Where were they?

Yes, there are a lot of people making a difference without the attention Al gets but I indeed there are too many bullshitters taking aim from a distance.

I think more progress is possible not if Al goes away but if MORE of us step up.

Damn Field. Now you gonna rain on Al because he didn't take every single case that was presented to him? (Please note that I am pointedly not addressing your disaffection with the man's hairdo, which I am sure is your attempt to lighten up the situation rather than to fixate on another brother's choice of hairstyle.) Sounds like you got the po' Rev up against a difficult standard. He isn't allowed to pick and choose which particular issues he will work on, and then when he does decide to work on one, he aint allowed to get in front of no cameras. Wow. I gues you pretty well tired of him even pretending to try to help somebody. Will you at least admit that Al has been able to accomplish at least a couple of things becasue he did have access to media exposure? Better yet, Do you know of anyone who is willing to work as hard as Al seems to be working who can get the kind of major media exposure it takes to get almost anything accomplished in this country?

And nope, I never been behind closed doors with Al or Jesse or any other so-called leader or activists. Yall lucky yall don't hear some of the shyt I say off the blog, so I'm hardly going to hold the man's private conversations that I wasn't privy to against him. I will let his public work speak for me, as should the rest of these people, unlike yoursef, who aren't privy to Al's innermost secrets.

And Jimbo, for Jesus H. Christ's sake, will you please stop bringing up the Tawanna Brawley case?!?!?! Let that shyt go dude. Man makes one error in jusgement, backed one person who turned out to be less than truthful, and that means he aint no good for nothing else ever again? Al don't owe you or nobody else any apology for making an effort to help someone who he thought was telling the truth. You simply have no evidence of anyting other than that so let it go.

  42. EM, I really don't want to rain on Al's parade, and to answer your question; I think his NAN does some good things, and I am sure he is a hard worker. But sorry, some things just stay with you...I will leave it at that.

symphony I feel your frustration with black folks who talk the talk but don't ever walk the walk. And yes, there are plenty of them in the black-o-sphere :)

Some of them (c..) you have to almost respect; because they come straight out and tell you that they are sell outs and they are only looking out for themselves (c..) so I don't expect anything from them. The ones that get me are the ones who would have us believe that they are doing shit in their community, when in truth, they are just trying to become the next Rev. Al.

Hold up there Exodus, I'm not saying I'm not capable of forgiving the man if he told his victim (i.e. the man whose career/life he ruined) that he was sorry, I'm just saying that the Reverend was proved wrong, and he won't own up to it?! And you don't think that that should hurt his credibility? Really?

This isn't the case of a white guy jumping on a perceived black threat, hoping to use something/anything to bring him down a notch. And yes, it's obvious that he meant well. But he was wrong, he hurt somebody innocent, and ten years on he still won't say a simple "I'm sorry, I made a mistake." And then he gets on the pulpit and talks about Christian values...

As for me, I'm not asking for an apology; the man didn't ruin me, after all. But he owes it to the man he did, regardless of his obvious good intentions. Until he does the right thing, it's a mark against him as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I'm no big Sharpton fan, and I'm not given to holding Sharpton lovefests. But in this particular instance, he's coming as close as a politician can to telling somebody "Leave me the hell alone". He's telling the guy that if he wants to talk, he should come march with hundreds of black folks. If that's not Al trying to discourage ol' Dog, I don't know what is. Just calling it like I see it.

So the dog hates inter-racial relationships; his native american mother and white father must be rolling over in their graves right now....Dog's own roots are more questionable if he is of cherokee ancestry as I've read, they are also mixed with an abundance of black ancestry. He and I may even be kin, lol.

Typical white person strategy "ooh ooh lets find the one error someone makes and then bring it up every chance we get"

I don't agree with Al all the time but I give him credit for bringing attention to some of the issues that blacks face in this glorious country.

The media chose him as a spokeperson he's just taking advantage of the system....he is being very American in that regard.

  48. Very white of me, Marcus? What, we all act the same way now?

Please. The man is a PREACHER. He talks about MORAL INTEGRITY. He ruined a man's career, and won't apologize.

I'm not holding a grudge. But I am forming an opinion. And I form my opinion of a man based on what he says and what he does.

I already said I admire some of the stuff he does, but I'll be damned if I don't take him less seriously when he holds the rest of us to a higher standard than he holds himself.

Is that white enough for you, Marcus?

Yes when talking about Big Al all white people spout the same old story "ooh ooh Al was wrong about Tawana!!!!!" So yes you are acting like all the other whites out there that criticize Big Al.

They tend to focus on that negative aspect of Big Al and ignore whatever message he tries to illuminate.

Whites are always first casting stones because they are clearly without sin. LOL.

Not too many ass kissing apologies given to the black men the innocence project frees, you know the ones, Jimbo, that spend 10, 15, 20+ years in jail for crimes they didn't commit.

Seems like to me there are bigger errors of judgment made in A-merry-kkka

  51. Yes Marcus, and blacks are always conflating every injustice their race has ever suffered whenever a white guy complains about Tawana Brawley or OJ, how's that?

Of course, that seems to work against your notion that we're all the same and we're all out to get you, but why let facts get in the way of hyperbole.

And I'll say it again: I do respect some of what Al Sharpton does and has done, but he can't tell whites (or blacks or anyone else) to apologize for their transgressions if he doesn't apologize for his. And yes, Marcus, it was proven that he was wrong. Al Sharpton even paid the man an undisclosed sum of money, but he couldn't bring himself to actually say "sorry." C'mon.

I'd love to know how many prosecutors go to these men, stand before them, look them in their face and apologize.

We all know damn well they really couldn't give two shits. If anything they are mad they were wrong, not mad about the repercussions of their mistake.

They were always so damn sure they caught the right guy.

"Al Sharpton even paid the man an undisclosed sum of money,"

Jimbo is reacting in the typical fashion of white people who are supposedly on our side. Don't be upset Jimbo, this is not an attack. I am trying to help you. You seem to be genuine, but you are making the mistake that a lot of white progressives make. You are acting like you understand our position. You don't. You never can. You personally didn't create the conditions but even in your honest attempts to help, you are actually contributing to the conditions that we strggle against. What is being discussed here is the Black condition. When we tell you what it is, and explain to you that it is very different from anything you choose to compare it to, you need to just undertand that we know what we are talking about. And that you probably never will. Your perspective in this regard is all but useless, even as your support is still greatly appreciated.

The reason I highlighted your statement above is that I want you to consider for just a second the arguement you just made. You said that Al won't apologize, but you acknowledge that Al paid some restitution. Why is the restitution that has been given by Al not enough for you? This type of situation, where financial rparations are offered to an injured party, is part and parcel of the American legal and social tradition, but it's not enough for Al. You need Al to grovel a little bit more than all those corporations that fuck peoples lives up and then throw a little petty cash at them as compensation? You don't even see this as conceptually wrong or intellectually dishonest; you put it right back on Al's shoulders claiming that his own claim to moral superiority (a claim you attribute to him but that he himself has never made) require him to be held to some higher standard. Do you perhaps see why we teach our children from birth that they have to be twice as good as white folks to get half as far. And while we are teaching our kids this, the mainstream point of view is that we have a culture that doesn't encourage excellence.

Like I said Jimbo don't get mad, I'm only trying to help you. Go to the exodus mentality blog and read the post on "A White Woman Who Actually Gets It...I'm Almost Speechless". dip into some Tim Wise if you haven't already done so. It's cool you want to be on the right side, but some help can do more harm than good.

Yes and the fact that the innocence project was started by white guys is relevant to my argument that Jimbo has the typical white knee jerk reaction to Big Al, how?

Or was that another typical white reaction to my statements, whites love to bring up irrelevant issues in order to draw attention away from something that makes them seem foolish or un-com-fort-able (but wait they have no reason to feel uncomfortable do they?) lol.

But wait, here are some more examples of white typicalness.

    Jimbo Said:
"Of course, that seems to work against your notion that we're all the same and we're all out to get you, but why let facts get in the way of hyperbole."

Where did I mention that all whites were out to get blacks?
Um... yes this is (yet) another typical white statement.

    Jimbo said:
"Yes Marcus, and blacks are always conflating every injustice their race has ever suffered whenever a white guy complains about Tawana Brawley or OJ, how's that?"

Whites often state that blacks conflate or better yet, it's said that we exaggerate all the injustices suffered by blacks. Very typical white person talk lol.

By the way all whites seem to think that black people give a damn about OJ Simpson (I ain't mad at you Jimbo it's in your nature to tow the party line).
Myself I just thought it was hilarious that he got off.

  62. Exodus and Marcus, let me make something clear: You are putting words in my mouth.

I have never claimed, nor do I claim now, that I understand your position, or what it is like to be a black man in America.

Nor have I ever stated that I either care about OJ (I don't) or that because the Innocence Project was founded by whites, that I believe our justice system isn't prejudiced against blacks or that it does not suffer from serious problems.

Personally, I am sure we have executed innocent blacks in this country, and that is why I believe we need a permanent moratorium against the death penalty.

Marcus: I don't believe "blacks" conflate, I believe YOU do, by saying that I am "just like all the whites" because I believe Sharpton should apologize.

I am accusing you of the same lazy generalizations that whites do all the time when we say that all blacks think a certain way, which is exactly why the white media gives Al Sharpton so much power... we act like he speaks for all of you, when he obviously doesn't. It turns blacks into a monolithic group, without distinguishable interests or positions. That is also lazy generalizing.

I am white, but I am capable of independent thought, and the fact that I think a certain way about Tawana Brawley does not mean I am "just like all the other whites." Frankly, I view that as an attempt to dismiss me and nothing more.

Angie, in answer to your question, no, emphatically no, it was Sharpton not Brawley who ruined the man's life.

The man has a name, by the way; Stephen Pagones. Sharpton accused prosecutor Pagones of perpetrating the rape himself. Subsequently, Pagones lost his job and his wife and little kids were dragged through the mud.

Sharpton ended up being tried for slander, and he was found guilty. The jury found him liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones.

All I'm saying is that he should say "sorry." Why is that so hard to accept?

Does that mean that I don't place equal value on black life? That I'm dismissing systematic discrimination and death that YOUR people have suffered from Jim Crow to Emmett Till to Jena 6?

No, but the man should take responsibility for his mistake. The reason I suspect he won't is because, like some people on this forum, Al Sharpton believes that to say "sorry" to Pagones is not an admission of error so much as a capitulation to white hegemony... and frankly, THAT is a conflation.

And Exodus Mentality, thanks for the compliment. I do mean well.

But I've already beat you to the punch by admitting that I don't understand black America. Being here and talking to you is not something I have to do... I'm not a racist like Michael Richards or Dog trying to get some good PR to save my career. This is an exercise in self-improvement for me, maybe to expand my horizons and make me a more sensitive, aware person.

I'm the first to tell you I've got a long way to go.

    Take care, all of you.

I don't know, man. On the one hand I think that Sharpton does bring attention to and rallies on behalf of some situations that need to be put on blast. On the other hand, re: the Tawana Brawley thing, I think Al used and manipulated this teenager (at the time) into creating this brouhaha, full of lies, to fatten up his own resume. Not saying she was innocent, yes, she did lie and ruin some guy's life. Yet, she was surrounded by brothers who were in her ear and telling her what to say, what to do (Sharpton and Crew). I've heard from folks close to this case that Al and them basically filled in the blanks of her "story". I also think it was not cool that he benefitted from this (dude is still getting gigs) while Tawana had to slip away in shame and change her name, so basically, the black woman loses while the black man rides off on a white horse (as it happens in so many of these type cases). About the accused, eh, shit happens. I mean, really, apologize for what? The thing that kills me about these white guys who are accused of these rapes and assaults, esp. if they come from so-called "upstanding families", is that they never spent a day in jail, they pout and they fuss and stamp their feet the minute things don't go their way. Tough.

    My FRIEND Field,

What's so scary? That more and more whites are waking up and becoming racially aware?
The Honorable Elijah Mohammed told us that this would happen, and he was told this by Master Farad Mohammed of Mecca who came to America as a savior of the black man, sent to us by Allah Sobhanahu wa Ta'ala.

So let's give a hearty "Allahu Akbar!!" and "Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, Alhamdulillahi Rabil Alamin!"
Let's bless our white brothers as they racially awaken to what a fraud we black folks are, and maybe we should finally start having some serious discussions pertaining to RACIAL SEPARATION.
I, malcolm X, spoke many times of separating from the "White Devil". Now the time has come for us to think of it in a serious way.

And Anon 1:53, about your "Jews aren't white" thing... listen; I'm not Jewish but I am ethnic. I came to this country in a plane; I wasn't born here.

But my skin is white, so that's what I am. I mean, what are my people and Jews alike supposed to call ourselves; 'off-white'? 'eggshell'?

In the end, you can't have it both ways. If I was Jewish, you'd probably be calling me whitey anyway.

You have Stormfront but black people can't have 1 blog?? WOW.
I'm sure you have no intention of shutting up or letting anyone escape your bullshit. You are a white man after all. You're not happy unless you're lording it over others and trying to dominate the discussion.
If you were Jewish, I certainly wouldn't call you "whitey"(what a stupid word). I don't call people "whitey" (again, a stupid word), I call you cave bitches and cave bastards. In proper company, I call you "cave dwellers" or just "racist". Much better than "whitey", I think.
Oh and I hate to tell you, most whites wouldn't learn a damn thing from coming here, as you can see from the trailer trash that FN has to moderate. Most whites are reluctant to learn anything about race/racism because if they did, that would mean they'd have to do something about it. As we know, whites love the status quo, especially when the status quo has been so damned favorable to them.

BTW, I'm not racist...some of my best friends are white. lol.

  77. MH, here's the thing: I get why you don't have sympathy for the guy who was accused of rape. We fuck you, so when we get fucked, why shed a tear?

And frankly, if I was in your position, I'd probably feel the same way. But until we bridge this divide, things won't improve and there's going to be this wide chasm of suspicion between the two communities.

As for your other point; I don't agree with what you're saying. Tawana Brawley was a minor, and as such, I don't think she should take the full brunt for being manipulated. As a former attorney, I know how easy it is for a child to be manipulated by adults. Even if she was 15, 16 (approaching adulthood) she's in way over her head and does not deserve to be taken advantage of.

And frankly, I don't even think Sharpton deserves any more castigation. What's done is done.

The only reason I brought it up was to talk about how it decked his credibility, not that he needs to bow and scrape about it. It's his choice to not apologize, and it's my choice not to forget it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous3:41 PM

Ok Field. I have to go with what you say but to me, white people who bring up OJ and Tawana Brawley constantly have other motives, if you ask me. As soon as a white person is backed into a corner, they always, without fail, bring Jesse-Hymietown, Al-Tawana, and OJ Simpleton's uncle tom ass into it. I'm sick of hearing about these people. What about all of the wrong shit that's been done against us all throughout history and we are constantly told to "get over it". We're supposed to get over a whole legacy of systemic brutality, done over hundreds of years and still going on in the justice system all over the United States but, they can consistently site Jesse, Al and OJ as their big 3. Somehow, it doesn't add up to me.

  80. And since I'm (still) here, Anonymous, let me fill you in on why I *AM* on this blog.

I live in an urban area. Everywhere I go, I'm surrounded by black people. I work with them, I commute with them, they're all around me. I look around me, and I see that the races are self-segregated, staring at each other. And that even though I am surrounded by blacks, I don't have a single black friend, a single black person that I know as an individual that I can talk to about these important issues. And I suspect most white people are the same.

So I look around me at the racial situation in this country today, and it makes me sad. So I go on black blogs like this to listen, to talk, and to have discussions with black people about the issues that, in real life, on the street or in polite society, both races have learned not to talk about in front of each other.

These black blogs are the ONE PLACE that a white guy like me can go to have those discussions.

I don't care if you disagree with me. Frankly, I welcome it. Shoot me down, tell me I'm wrong, I won't be offended.

But don't begrudge me the one place I can go to actually have these discussions. Because they need to take place, and people like you seem hell-bent on ensuring that they don't.

Besides, what are you so afraid of? I'm the only white guy out here, aside from Cletus occasionally stopping by to spew his garbage. Are you so insecure that a lone white voice scares you that much? Are you telling me that instead of a forum for debate, you'd rather have blogs like this turn into an echo chamber?

Disagree with me, yell at me, that's fine. But don't shut me down. If you do, you're doing us both a disservice, though I'm sure you'll disagree.

And yes, I respect you, even though you choose not to forget about the TB issue with AS, such as our white counterparts love to do. **wink** I have to ask how is this possible? Where do you live? Are you apart of any community organizations? Have you made an effort to know these people that you actually come in contact with in your daily walk?

You know, it's easy to get on these blogs and do and say what ever the hell you want to say. It's in a way, for some people a fantasy land, a place to say what you wouldn't say in real life.

I want to know why is it that a black blog the "only" place you feel like you can come to share your insight and perspective?

  83. Angie-

First of all, I appreciate what you're saying, but I don't think anything I'm really saying is irresponsible. I mean, I understand your point, but I'm not some closet job using my anonymity to vent racist ideology or conspiracies about how the government brought down the towers.

As far as TB, I guess we can agree to disagree. I stand by my words, but I think if I was black I'd feel differently, so I'm not going to get upset about it. Our communities are unable to agree on a common moral interpretation of events because of too much mutual hostility and bad blood. Whites and blacks oftentimes engage in zero-sum games when real people get hurt. It's sad, but all I can do is say my bit.

I prefer not to say where I live. I do appreciate that aspect of anonymity online, I admit it. But I have a career and a family and I like to stay unknown.

I'm not proud that I don't have black friends, I'm just being honest. And honestly, I'm surprised that you're surprised. Our communities self-segregate so much, and I've noticed that even with superficial friendships I have formed with blacks, there are certain patterns of behavior.

Namely, I like hanging out with black guy X and he seems to think I'm ok too. We talk about home life, we b*tch about work, things like that. But we don't discuss race or meaty topics like that because it's so sensitive and we don't know each other well enough to risk it.

Maybe if there's a solid 10 years behind the friendship, or an important shared experience binding us together, but that rarely happens.

Anyway, that's why I come here. You all are just a series of words on a screen, as I am to you.

But I do respect most of the people I've spoken to here, and get a lot out of these discussions. I view it as an education, so that I can remove the racial garbage from my system so that it doesn't get transmitted to my children, and instead I can be a better parent.

    take care angie

Please folks list them in your responses:
    Over eating
    Not doing homework.
    Drinking.
Is it all Dr. Phil, politics I mean? Here's a hint, when they call them they, you got a typical. Anyway keep up the good work. There are other offensive words for which to pay.
