That was a great Super Bowl game. Finally a game that lived up to all the hype.
I was at a Super Bowl party, but I left at halftime. There were quite a few Obamaholics there (the "O" man was in Delaware today by the way), but sometimes I just want to watch the game and not talk politics.
I guess the Spytriots won't be making history after all, and it couldn't have happened to a bunch of nicer guys.
The only down side of all this is that I will have to listen to these stinking Giant's fans here in Philly for the next year.
Here are some more of my thoughts:
All the commercials pretty much sucked. Except of course for the one with Naomi Campbell (I don't even remember what it was for) where she was dancing with those lizards.
Doesn't Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys make the whole melting pot thing seem like a pretty good idea?
I lked Joe Buck's hook up. And I felt bad for Randy Moss, I would love to see him get a ring before his career is over.
I could watch that catch by David Tyree over and over again.
I think I won a square in my office pool. Of course I will be giving the money to charity.......OK that's bullshit, I will be spending that bad boy on lunch this week.
Doesn't the MVP, Eli Manning, remind you of Gomer Pyle?
Finally, let's hope that next year my "Iggles" will be holding up that Vince Lombardi Trophy.
GO GIANTS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome. Now I don't have to listen to those belligerent Patriots fans for another year.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting on a "just kidding" after that comment about the Eagles. Surely I missed it.
ReplyDeleteStop Hatin!!! @symphony
ReplyDeleteWhen the Eagles are holding that trophy next season, you'll be chokin on what you just wrote!
And I was at the Obama rally in Rodney Square today. It was amazing. I'm really really hooked on the "O" man now.
Yes...My name is TIMI and I am an Obamaholic.
Eli Manning does not look like Gomer Pyle...he looks like McLovin from "Superbad"...lol
ReplyDeletefield,
ReplyDeleteI hung out with Obamaholics last night at the bar. I live in Minneapolis, and Obama spoke here on Saturday night. Some of my friends were part of more than20,000 people who went to see him. After the speech, I met them for beer. Usually my male friends are very cynical and basically blame black folks for their social condition. But after hearing Obama, suddenly they were talking like him. One said we got to stop talking about red and blue states because there's only the United States of America. (He's from Mississippi). Another
said black people got to stop talking about the black race and the white race because there's only one race, the human race. I said to them, He's the blackest person i've ever seen. I said "I'm sipping beer. What the hell are you drinking?"
But, field, when another brother started talking about how we black folks who make it need to reach back and help out our black brothers and sisters who have been left behind (shit i've been telling him about 10 yhears), that did it. I got up and left.
field, my male friends have become Obamaholics. Honestly I liked them better when they were just cynics who badmouthed black folks like Bill Cosby. So this black man watched the unpredictable Giants kick the Patriots' arrogant asses at home alone in Minnesota, a red state.
This black man watched the game at home alone, in Minnesota.
------------------------
Though he didn't get the ring, I'm glad he played very well and the way he has carried himself this year. Bellichek said he's been a real tam player.
@macdaddy:

So, your friends have come under the O-man's spell, his transformative power.
Hilarious!
I think I'm going to stay away from the O-man. I've heard others say the same thing after attending one of his rallies.
It could be the water, the kool-ade or his hypnotic power.
I'm not taking any chances!
You know I practically lost my voice over here with this win. I'm going to post about the Giants in a bit, but I think it's much better to hear from Giants fans about the Giants than the Pats, because there wasn't a moment of silence from them ALLLLL SEEEASSOOONNN ... till David Tyree, Syracuse product, elevated his game!
ReplyDeleteI see the hate, but the ring's still on his finger. Amen ...
"Yes my name is Tim and I am an Obamaholic"
ReplyDeleteHI TIM!
Congrats Jose! I know you live in NY and you went to the Cuse.
And for you Iggles hatets, just wait until next year.
McDaddy and the fire next time the "O" man does put a spell on all those folks. That"s why I won't go either.
I'm just glad the football season is finally over. I wish people would stopping assuming that just b/c I'm from the NJ/NYC area that I'm a Giants fan. I'd rather watch ice skating to be honest.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't the MVP, Eli Manning, remind you of Gomer Pyle?
ReplyDeleteFOFLOL! Ka-Ching!
Yessirree. Funny.
Congrats to the Giants.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I did some voodoo earlier in the day so that the man who left his pregnant ex baby-mama for a supermodel would not win.
ReplyDeleteMy sister thinks it worked. Now we're working on a spell to get the Bears in there next year!
I predicted this in my office and the guys here thought I was crazy. This morning, they're looking at me with mad respect.
ReplyDeleteI merely stated, "What if the Patriots win all year and lose the one game that REALLY COUNTS?"
Men, you will be MEN, and think a woman can't call these things, but given New England's History of the craptacular CHOKE, the odds were that they would lose the one game that would really matter this whole season.
New England's Sports History has been one of hoaxes and luck. When they traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees, they didn't see another World Series until 2005 - some fans died, not ever seeing the beloved Red Sox win another World Series and called it the "Curse of the Babe" for almost 90 years. Ask them if Boston's racist history with Black players might have had something to do with it, they'd rather blame Bill Buckner's failure to field Mookie Wilson's groundball in game 6 of the '86 series.
Somehow, the Celtics managed to escape such curses; probably because they had Bill Russell as the coach, and a bunch of brothas surrounding Larry Bird, like the late Dennis Johnson.
And the Patriots sucked for a long time and could always be found first in line during draft season.
Trust me, Field, if the Patriots won the Super Bowl, you haven't been around insufferable fans until you've been around Red Sox/Celtics/Patriot fans. There are plenty of 'em here in DC, not to mention I lived in Oakland, where there were a good number of transplanted New Englanders. Yuck.
I missed the Apple commercials this year. As an ex-advertising person (now a reformed graphic designer) we used to love to see the great and creative commercials that had not been "helped" by the clients and were really break through and entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI did like the Bud Light fire breathing commercial and think this will be the next campaign since it has a lot of extendability.
Oh, and the game was pretty great as well. :-)
On the other hand, who could be more lame than Tom Petty. Sheesh!
field,
ReplyDeleteI think it was a mistake to give the MVP to Eli Manning. First and foremost, he's an inaccurate passer due to poor footwork. Consequently, his passes either go behind or over receivers. This is often overlooked because his receivers (Burress, Tyree, Smith), who are underrated, bail him out with spectacular receptions.
I think the MVP should have gone to the entire 7 defensive linemen, who sacked Patriot quarterback Tom Brady 5 times and pressured him all night. Brady usually has all day to throw; and the only other team that pressured him this year and almost won were the Philadelphia Eagles. But the Giants destroyed the Patriot's offensive line last night. Either the entire defensive line or Jeffrey Tuck should have gotten the MVP.
Feel sorry for Randy Moss?!
ReplyDeleteOh, if you knew the things I know about Randy Moss. . . even the things that most West Virginians in his proximity know. . . how he has escaped REAL scandal, is something that only his closest lawyers know. . . speaking of which, I'll bet he shit himself when his closest lawyer and buddy got busted a while back.
But ya gotta admire someone who can trudge through all that. . . uh, baggage. . . and still perform like he does.

Hmm that's a good point.
I love that Tom Brady lost though for what he did to Bridget.
ReplyDeleteI think it's nice to see New England eat some humble pie! It was long overdue and I'm glad I saw it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully my Steelers will be winning again next year!
Hey folks, the Borg Queen is crying again!
ReplyDeleteIt worked pretty good for her in New Hampshire. Will it work for Super Tuesday?
Sen. Hillary Clinton appeared to fight back tears this morning at a campaign event in New Haven, USA TODAY’s Kathy Kiely reports.
At the Yale Child Study Center where Clinton once worked, she was introduced by her former boss Penn Rhodeen before a roundtable on the difficulties faced by working mothers. “You were all in purple,” Rhodeen said of their first meeting, “from your sheepskin coat to your bell-bottoms. You looked wonderful and so 1972.”
Clinton, who today was wearing a yellow and black ensemble, welled up at Rhodeen’s reference to “our magnificent Hillary.”
“I said I would not tear up today,” Clinton remarked. Kathy writes that the senator blinked back the evidence with a smile.
The Chicago Tribune’s The Swamp blog adds Rhodeen was the first to choke up, “leading Clinton’s eyes to fill with tears, which she wiped out of her left eye.”
Christopher:
ReplyDeleteNow she gets away with crying on cue once - twice, and even Stevie Wonder can see she's trying to win back the women she alienated with her attacks on the "O" man. LOL
Say what you will about how good the Pats were all year-- yesterday, they flat out got beat.
ReplyDeleteNo folderol, no fiddledeedee-- the Giants played some serious smashmouth defense. Every time Tom Brady got up from under a bunch of Giant uniforms, he had this look on his face that said, "WTF was that? Did someone get the license number of that truck?"
And as much as I enjoyed Eli's play (for once he seemed to take his time-- his offensive line was right there for him, AND he managed to escape a couple of times when he shouldn't have just been sacked, he shoulda been dead!) I agree-- give the MVP to the Giants' defensive line. They beat the shit out of Mr. Brady and company, fair and square.
Racist Superbowl Ads:
ReplyDeleteToken Asian women as eye candy and stereotyped images of Asian men.
The most notable ad iwas the horribly unfunny and tasteless Salesgenie ad, with Pandas speaking in Chinese accents. Someone’s going to be apologizing tomorrow. And the next day. And the day after that.
....even Stevie Wonder can see she's trying to win back the women she alienated with her attacks on the "O" man.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Good one, The Christian Liberal Progressive.
"Chris & CLP - why does the crying seem to work so well? I don't get to cry at work and neither do my mother, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends...so why does she get points for it? Shedding tears and having a heart are NOT the same thing. That sh*t pisses me off..."
ReplyDelete-I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way.
I wonder if she cried after using the race card on the "O" Man?
NAAAAAAAAH!
Hillary's crying on the campaign trail cuz' Billary ain't making her cry anymore between the hours of 12 midnight and 6am, if you know what I'm saying. *wink*
ReplyDeleteOk um, here goes:
ReplyDelete1) Was that really Naomi Cammpbell?
2) I like the "Baby Hurt Me" commercial, that was cute.
3)I heard Randy Moss beats his wife, so I have no love for him.
4) Oh, hey, so lunch is on you? Ill meet you at our favorite restaurant! Bwahahaha!
:)

ReplyDeleteForget the Giants! Forget the Pats! Lets even forget the Eagles!
ReplyDeleteOne time for Mike Vick and him keeping his signing bonus!!! That boy is slowly but surely getting his groove back. And when he does, I hope he takes a big fat shit on the Falcons organization.
How the hell you try to take a SIGNING BONUS... isn't it just that... a BONUS???
If things keeps going like this... we might see #7 in somebodys training camp in 2009.
-----------------
Ooh Christopher - that story about Hillary just makes my butt burn!!!! She's really gotta stop that. I'm a super emotional person - I cry all the time. But hell, the one place I keep it together is at work! The last thing a woman needs is her peers thinking she is weak and cannot handle herself at all times. WTF? If this is her strategy... ugh! What a beeeyotch.
"If things keeps going like this... we might see #7 in somebodys training camp in 2009. "
ReplyDeleteHey the Iggles need a kick returner and play maker, so we will take him.
You know Field... I use to like you.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, seeing MV7 in a Philly uniform would gross me out. Or a New Orleans uniform. Or a Tampa uniform. Hmmm... now that I think about it, maybe I secretly do still want him to play for the Falcons.
I wouldn't mind seeing him return a kick or catch a 5 yarder and take it 75 yards to the promise land. Ahhh... memories :)

ReplyDelete"Doesn't Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys make the whole melting pot thing seem like a pretty good idea?"
I like sisters of all tones and hues, but I have a predilection for "black berries."
I saw on the news Hillary had a Superbowl party. Claims she was rooting for NY. Please.
ReplyDeleteDidn't she read books during Razorback games when Bill was Govenor? Now all of a sudden she's a football fan.
I am so happy for the Giants! That defensive line was no joke.
WNG and Christopher:
ReplyDeleteI don't get to cry at work, and my boss is a bitch royale. And it frosts my cookies when the Borg Queen turns on the water works when she reads a poll saying Obama's neck and neck with her.
There's no crying in politics and for those who boo-hooed, they lost their campaigns (Ed Muskie, et al).
The weeping prophet is one thing; the weeping politician is a nother kettle of fish that I don't want their hands on the chicken switch when the time comes.
NY/NJ sportswriters/casters were dogging Coughlin/Manning for most of the season and the fans even booed Manning. Now they can do no wrong. Fickled sports fans. Where is the loyalty! And another thing, how is Tiki talking now about his former team-mates that he once slammed in the press! Everybody loves a winner!
ReplyDeleteFOOTBALL IS COONING,DROP THE PIGSKIN & HELP YOUR PEOPLE.SPORTS ARE A MINSTREAL SHOW,A DISTRACTION.JOCKS ARE A JOKE & ARE USUALLY SEXIST ASSHOLES AS WELL,IT SUCKS TO SEE INTELLIGENT BLACK MEN RAPPED IN SPORTS BULLSHIT,HOW IS THIS HELPING OUR PEOPLE?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking @ the least...Tyree & Manning should have been co-MVPs.
ReplyDeleteI saw a feature of a black man who lost his legs in the Iraq War. Apparently, he inpsired the Giants from the time their record was 0-2 and trailing Washington in the third game of the season, all the way up to the Super Bowl win.
And just think...everyone was calling for the heads of Eli Manning and Coach Tom Coughlin last year.
Because we aren't likely to ever see it again, I was hoping that the Pats would pull off the perfect season. I am just glad that I don't live on the East Coast because I couldn't take listening to loudmouth NY fans crowing about the Giants' victory.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the commercials this year. For an event such as The Super Bowl that is consistently the most watched, I expect the spots to have a lot more "wow" to them.
