"There are no automatics in life that all black people are going to support a single black candidate in a race...All black folks don't eat fried chicken or eat watermelon..."
That was my Mayor, Michael Nutter, talking about how some black folks are giving him the fuzzy eye ball because of his support of the "O" man. Indeed my Mayor is one of the more high profile African American leaders supporting the "Ice Queen" these days. It has put him front and center into the national spotlight, and has made him a must get for many media outlets who want to hear from one of the five black people in A-merry-ca who don't support the "O" man.
Now I happen to love fried chicken ( I will kill for some Popeye's), but I can't stand watermelon. And I suspect that there are some black folks who love watermelon but can't stand fried chi.....I take that back, I don't think there is a black person in A-merry-ca who doesn't love fried chicken. So you are wrong Mike, all black folks do like fried chicken. So think of the "O" man as your political fried chicken. Black folks love the guy, and as he gets closer to the White House , they are going to love him even more.
I suspect though, that my Mayor doesn't really care about that because I really don't think he has aspirations for a higher political office. And if he does, he won't need a majority black vote to get it. My Mayor has always gotten a lot of love from educated white folks and just enough of the black vote here in Philly to make him politically viable. That won't stop now, and he knows it. So why not take a shot and support the "Ice Queen"? I also suspect that there is some political pay back at work here. The "O" man supported Nutter's opponent, Chaka Fattah, in the last Mayor's race, and I don't think Mike has forgotten that.
Still, I am going to upset some of you Obamaholics and say that Mayor Nutter has every right to support the Ice Queen if he thinks that she is the best candidate. And like he said, why don't white folks ask Teddy Kennedy why he is supporting Obama and not the white candidate? You are right Mike, we don't all have to like fried chicken and watermelon, and people shouldn't expect us to. You are free to like your chicken baked, and mangoes instead of melons. But it would be nice if we got a really good reason why you are supporting lady Hillary. Especially since we know that our Governor and the rest of the party machine is supporting her. It would help if you were just honest and up front with us and told us that you were supporting her because it's the shrewed political thing to do. I don't like watermelon because of all the seeds, and for some reason it always makes my stomach feel funny when I eat it. So why doesn't my Mayor like the "O"man ? He says he likes Hillary because she understands the "tough issues facing America's cities". But does she really? To believe that, you really have to be wearing blinders. Honestly, I think that my Mayor hedged his bet a little too early. He jumped on the Hillary bandwagon and can't jump off now. To his credit, he has stuck with with his guns, and he is staying on the good ship Hillary no matter what.
All I can say Mike is that if the "O" man wins you better make up with him fast. I don't want my beloved city to suffer because of your poor political calculations. You better send him some cheese steaks, soft pretzels, and season tickets to the Sixer's games (I hear he loves his B ball). If that doesn't work, you might want to consider some fried chicken from Delilah's. I bet he likes fried chicken like the rest of us.
Nutter does have the right endorse whoever he wants. I give him that. But, what pissed me off is when he decided to lend his commentary on several national media venues about how he would have left Obama's church... blah, blah, blah.... This was days after Obama's speech in Philadelphia and a time when things seemed to be moving on... So, he stepped up to the plate to be the reminder.... For that, he belongs in the House! I wrote him and told him as someone who voted for him, I was deeply ashamed of him for that. Shocking! He hasn't responded.
ReplyDeleteOn a more humorous note, last Friday, there were some Hillary supporters on the corner of 12th & Walnut...why there I have no friggin idea... anybody from Philly knows you do that kind of action along Broad or right at the T of Market and 15th in front of City Hall.... but anyway, they were holding signs saying honk for Hillary... and NO ONE honked... people just pointed and laughed at them.... it was one of the moments, when again, I LOVE Philly!
I'm a feminist, yet I support Obama because I think he is the better candidate. And the mayor has every right to support Hillary if he thinks she is the best candidate.
ReplyDeleteI just don't know how you come to that conclusion . . .
I wouldn't vote for a candidate JUST because the candidate is black, or a woman, or whatever. But all things being equal, I don't think there's anything wrong with taking into account letting somebody new (i.e., not an old white man) get a seat at the table.
I didn't support either of these people initially, because I'm a radical, and they weren't left enough for me (they never are). BUt of these 2 who have very similar voting records, I could easily boil it down to one thing and the decision would be bright as day: Iraq.
ReplyDeleteHillary got it wrong, and just kept on getting it wrong up until a few months ago. Thats inexcusable. I have yet to hear a sensible argument for supporting her.
I dig Obama. I feel like he knows what its like to be black in America, and that goes a long way for me in a racist society. But, people think Obama can walk on water and are not really paying attention to who his advisors are or what it means we he says he wants 90,000 new troops. What do people think he wants them for? Dancing? Obama is a mainstrema politician who is going to do mainstream things.
Bottom line, we could vote Jesus in and he couldn't fix this. Capitalism is organized corruption and legalized crime. Obama, Hillary or McCain and the working class loses again. Why do we continue to play this game? Because we haven't accepted that reality.
dear field,
ReplyDeletethanks for the insight on mayor nutter. i agree with jody. it is not just that certain figures have endorsed clinton but it is the way they have stoked the nastiness. but you are right to focus on the shrewdness factor . it is nice to see the calculators who calculated on the calculating candidate...lose on their calculation.
Field,
ReplyDeleteNutter's entitled to his opinion, but at least he's not as batshit insane as some guy who told me to vote for McCain earlier today.
And I'd kill for some Popeye's too. Yesterday's newspaper had coupons from heaven... 3pcs mixed chicken or chicken strips, 2 reg sides and a biscuit for $4.99.
I'm probably going there after work tomorrow night.
I love fried chicken and watermelon.
ReplyDeleteI love greens, with a turkey drumstick and cornbread with cold ice tea on a hot Sunday afternoon.
But I hate the Borg Queen. See, not all gay men have are resting their heads on her lap.
Chris, you better check those blood lines :)
ReplyDeletecali tejano, how come I never see Popeye's coupons?
"Bottom line, we could vote Jesus in and he couldn't fix this. Capitalism is organized corruption and legalized crime. Obama, Hillary or McCain and the working class loses again. Why do we continue to play this game? Because we haven't accepted that reality."
Now kai...that was a deep comment.
"I just don't know how you come to that conclusion . . ."
diane, what conclusion are you talking about?
jody, you are right, MN did a little too much pontificating with the Wright speech for my liking.
On a side note; I am watching the game, and coach "Ca1" and his Tigers might go down.
Damn, when someone writes, "Wyclef needs a sociology class" I gotta pay attention to them!
ReplyDeleteThen you let both, Obama and Hilary have it, which I agree with everything you just said. I believe that Obama would pull the same old Neoliberal tactics on any Arab country that doesn't fall in line by starving them out just via sanctions. His opposition to the Iraq war is more about exploiting the failure of a political oponant as a weakness. It has nothing to to with being genuinely left.

Chris,
Now you know I'm down with you on that! Give me Popeye's any day!hahahahahaha! I love it!
Field,
I'm with jody about Nutter would have left the church--blah blah blah! (Major Eye Roll)
I grew up with the Fire & Brimstone preaching! I've heard many of white Preachers preach the same as Rev Wright! If I'm correct, Jimmy Swaggart was one! Yes, I know---but he asked for forgiveness!:)
field - the mayor's conclusion that HRC is the best candidate . . .

ReplyDeleteObama Didn't Want My Money - Updated w/link to letter
by Borell
Mon Apr 07, 2008 at 10:12:52 AM PDT
I just had the strangest experience. A presidential candidate gave me back my donation, told me would not accept it because of what I do for a living, and it left me more committeed to the candidate and convi[n]ced that he is the person that must be the next president.
I went to the mailbox and found a letter from the Obama Campaign. Enclosed was a check for $100, the return of my contribution from earlier this month along with a letter explaining why it would not be accepted.
p.s.: As a side note, last year my spouse had set up automatic monthly payments to Hillary (nothing big $10/month) but after switching to Obama, had to battle with the Clinton campaign to cancel the automatic payment. I find it ironic that one campaign won't take my money, the other won't give it back!
Updated to add: I though[t] we had finally stopped the payments to the Clinton Campaign, but after checking with my spouse, it turns out they are still taking the payments 3-4 months after we asked them to stop.

Field,
ReplyDeleteWe all know what you mean but you typed this...:-)
That was my Mayor, Michael Nutter, talking about how some black folks are giving him the fuzzy eye ball because of his support of the "O" man.
Chris Matthews of MSNBC made an interesting observation today about Gov. Ed Rendell. He noted that although Gov. Ed is a vocal and staunch Hill supporter he has, so far, not gone negative on SBO. Chris wondered if Gov. Rendell is staying on SBO's good side in case he has a chance of being on SBO's short Veep list.
As for fried chicken, I've read that the Obama's watch their diets and are healthy eaters and even insist that Sasha and Malia not be fed unhealthy foods while in the care of their grandmother. Reportedly, Grandma doesn't wholly deprive them of the fried chicken experience but substitutes by cooking baked fried chicken with a cornflake batter.
It's actually crumbled Ritz crackers that she uses...
ReplyDeleteThe rules about eating healthily she finds especially limiting.
"That's not my thing," Robinson said. "Well, see, I grew up when you had good food, right? I can't change that at this late day and time."
Like fried chicken, for instance. Her secrets: using crumbled Ritz crackers in the batter, bathing the chicken pieces in ice water before frying ("that makes it crispier"), adding salt liberally, and using "lots of oil."
"If you're going to have fried chicken," she said, "have fried chicken.
While Robinson tries to obey regulations when she watches the girls at the Obamas' house, her grandmotherly indulgences know few bounds when they come to her place.
"I have candy, they stay up late - come to my house, they watch TV as long as they want to, we'll play games until the wee hours," Robinson said. "I do everything that grandmothers do that they're not supposed to."
Robinson's deep involvement in her granddaughters' lives gives the Obamas a direct link to a simpler past that the couple hold as something of an ideal.

Sorry FN,
ReplyDeleteHe's a Handkerchief Head, plain and simple.
See, I don't have problems with those that have position disagreements with The "O" Man...that's fine.
What I DO have problems with is how damn near ALL the Handkerchief Heads have gone PERSONAL against The "O" Man.
I'll ask again...
Point to me, where The "O" Man's, White Female Backers have shown Hillpatine the level of disrespect that HER Handkerchief Heads have shown The "O" Man....show it to me.
He's a straight up Handkerchief Head.
I like fried chicken and watermelon, but Nutter was either to me. As far as I was concerned he was the default candidate. I think he an Bill share the same view of the democratic party and that is why he is supporting Hillary.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Sean Hannity hate Barack so much?
ReplyDeleteYesterday he was spouting off about Barack being confrontational while on the Senate floor.
His usual inflammatory, preposterous exclamations so I
changed the channel.
Today he said that one of
Barack's "friends" (and the pic of this alleged friend appeared to be a mugshot) has some dastardly things to say about Sean.
Like who doesn't have dastardly things to say about Spawn Hannity??
I find it hard to believe that Hill has the appreciation or capacity to understand the "tough issues facing America's cities."
ReplyDeletePossible but not probable.
I'm sure that she's somewhat aware of what goes on but how could she understand when she doesn't live or breathe it and is so far removed from it?
SBO was a community organizer and still lives on the South Side of Chicago.
Now, you've gone and done it, Field, with that expose on blacks and their love of chicken and watermelon.
ReplyDeleteSoon Hillary will be telling us about that SPECIALTY restaurant she used to own: Hillary's Fried Chicken and Watermelon Patch.
Spike Lee, remember him? (it has been a while), on SBO and the Clintons...
ReplyDeletewell what we do here in H-town is
ReplyDeleteboooooooo em off the stage,
Shelia Jackson Lee political career is done
All I can say Mike is that if the "O" man wins you better make up with him fast. I don't want my beloved city to suffer because of your poor political calculations.
ReplyDeleteField Negro:
It seems to me that Philadelphia is "suffering" absent anything that Mayor Nutter has done with respect to the presidential campaign trail. Southwest Philly will need far more than the "audacity of hope" to get its economic engine started again.
I still scratch my head and attempt to figure out how the SAME MACHINE that has been dominating the city for decades and contines to dominate the city today is able to project about the future in this same city without any concern about its own upheaval as the citizens seek REAL progressive change.

Pardon the resorting of your words. Man, what would you do if someone else didn't practice the CAPITALISM that you hate? Seems like YOU are the one who hasn't accepted YOUR REALITY.

Barack Obama grew up OUTSIDE of the United States and, when he was in the good ole (imperialist) US of A he lived on the thugged out streets of HAWAII!!! He indeed has his "Radical Street Cred" based on this background. :-/

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA--Too funny
That girl boo,
Yes, Sheila's career is over! But guess what? Sheila is wondering what folks are gonna say if she goes back on her word b/c she promised Hillary the support a year ago! See, it's all about Sheila---not her constituents!
Throw The Bum Out!

ReplyDeleteBrotherkomrade:
I agree with you 100% on this one. The typical anti-war narrative starts when Evil George Bush invaded Iraq but they some how skip over the 10 years of United Nation's SANCTIONS under which hundreds of thousands of people died for want of food, medical care and economic opportunity. After a few years the United Nations - our body of 'international law' was so gracious to allow the "Oil For Food" program to provide the unwashed masses with a bit of relief for their basic needs.
Obama's version of his "War On Terror" (aka: WWOHDIIWP- What Would Obama Have Done If I Were President) does not make sense and he HAS NEVER BEEN CALLED ON IT. He knows that he only needs to confound what George Bush ACTUALLY did and that his left wing base would support him accordingly.
He proposed to have invaded Afghanistan - the people who attacked us on 9/11 and then into Pakistan to search out Osama Bin Laden.
Of course we know that the day that Bin Laden was captured "Muslim Extremists" around the world would lay down their arms and broker a 10,000 year peace treaty. .....Riiiiiight!!
Just as foreign fighters spilled into IRAQ no doubt they would spill into Afghanistan and Pakistan if these were the only theater in which the Infidels (that would be the United States) chose to wage war. Much of the Obama rhetoric is only good for the DOMESTIC USA presidential run. It has little relevance to what THOSE WHO WE ARE FIGHTING would do.
Besides - in December 2007 - Al Zhawari, the #2 man for Al Queda said "We will fight the infidel (against this means US) in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somolia". So indeed if a President Obama gave Bin Laden the perp walk Al Zhawari who is #2 would be the new leader and thus his mission would still be carried out.
In my view as someone who IS NOT Left Of Center the best thing that the LEFT, who are IDEOLOGICALLY and MORALLY SUPERIOR can do is to STOP BEING A "Capitalist Consumer Co-Conspirator". Become one with your theories and refuse to consume "blood oil" that was obtained from the imperialist policies of the USA. If the USA were not IMPERIALISTS you wouldn't have these goods so why don't you live your lives absent the fruit which was picked from this tree of ill-gotten goods?
Is it that the USA needs to CHANGE...........OR YOU who does?
Wow, while they got us looking and listenin' to these house knee-grows, they're working on a whole 'nuther campaign right in front of our eyes....

I'm a Philly girl and have been fascinated by Nutter's stance and Rendell's rabid support of Hillary. I can only imagine that she promised Rendell something big. He in turn promised Nutter something or promised to screw Philly even more if he didn't come out swinging for Clinton. If Obama is elected in the fall, I hate to see the payback in Pennsylvania.
ReplyDeleteI find it equally amazing that Casey's kids forced him into endorsing. Or, is he trying to hedge PA's bets?
Great. Another f-tard who thinks the ONLY reason why black people are voting for Obama is because he's black.
ReplyDeleteWhat, black people should support a liar, color aroused, and incompetent candidate?
Do these people really think Clinton is the better candidate? She can't even manage her own damn campaign (See Mark Penn)!
Her 'experience' is either bullshit or overrated.
And that's why many blacks won't support her!
"CAN WE GET THAT GUN FROM YOUR FINGERS NOW MOTHERFUCKER?"
ReplyDeleteThanks for that! I'll be smiling like a goon for the next hour!!
Who doesn't love good fried chicken?? I miss Popeyes so much, all we have is Bojangles up here and well, not even close. I really miss Church's though, it was almost worth having to live in Shreveport.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I read that such and such a politician is sticking with Hillary out of loyalty I'm honestly puzzled because, hello ~ you're more loyal to some back room fondling than to the majority of your voters in your district? What's the deal with that, do you just expect that after the general election everyone's just going to forget?
Hi Field:
ReplyDeleteI do not have a problem with Mayor supporting Hillary Clinton. He has a every right as a citizen in this country who votes. I just question his statement because he doesn't have to explain why he is not voting for Obama and brings race into again. Give a reasonable statement that is based on the issues than some lame stereotype statement. I think that the mayor's statement would have more credence, but he fell into sound bite mode.
Field, your Mayor is supporting the Borg Queen out of political expediency, perks and benefits.
ReplyDeleteNothing more, nothing less.
As for your sidebar, regarding Michael Jordan....NOT AGAIN?!!! (eye roll)
Oh yeah, I had to turn into a Popeye's girl when I moved here cause all Cali had were the Colonel (KFC) and Church's which both turned into cups of grease!
ReplyDeleteLuv that Popeye's...LOL
Although your Mayor is free to support which ever candidate he likes it still sends a bad message to millions of young African American men. The message being I rather support a white women over a viable black male candidate. I have been to Philly and lived in Pittsburgh two of the most racist town in the north. Your Governor said the good white folks just are not ready for a black candidate....That confirms your Mayor isnt black in the good white folks eyes. Your Mayor should focus on finding jobs and affordable housing for African American instead of supporting the candidate who husband developed and enforced the three strikes you fuk policy and powder is power but since crack is black we will lock em up for 15 - 20 yrs then let back out when their folks are on a fixed income and cannot provide assitance.
ReplyDeletePopeye's chicken is all that and then some. I agree with the sentiment that mayor has a right to choose who he believes would be the best candidate. Only he truly knows his true intentions behind this. I absolutely can't stand it when someone says that ALL blacks are voting for BO just because of his skin color..some of us actually believe that he is the right man for the job. Besides if that were really true...none would be backing ole what's her face.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have Axelrod running things, given a choice. And with Mark Penn? There's no question.
ReplyDeleteThey will be writing history with Obama's campaign.
But we've still got a LONG way to go to get real accountability.
By the way, Pittsburgh's becoming a much better place (we got our police back, for one thing)... all the steelworkers movin' out, all the 'creative class' movin' in.
Even the color barrier seems to be thinin' Just takes one block to get from WSZ to pure chocolate. (not that any barrier like that be good, understand...)
Nutter needs to working on the crime rate in his city intead of chasing Hillary's skirt tail and bashing Jerimiah Wright. I'm not impressed with him at all. Has anyone noticed the resemblence between him and Alphonso (HUD) Jackson?
ReplyDeleteField, first off given the toilet Philly was until the past decade, anything is better than Rizzo and elements of Wilson Goode's regime.
ReplyDeleteBut I see your point. The deal is, he's the type of political coon which we see too much of nationally in the Black Caucus and in local affairs. I think he is indeed self-aggrandizing and self-important, and must feed off the white tit for sustenance. There's a difference between support and suckling. He's a suckler.
BTW, your missive on Charlton Heston had me hiccuping in laughter...
...and what's this about the Jamaican who brought a pipe bomb on an Air jamaica flight from Orlando? He said he was merely bringing the stuff back to show "him bred'rin" how to make "de bomb, so." That was his excuse. He had no wish to blow up a plane--just shit in Jamaica. Your people, man...
I could live on nothing but watermelon and chicken.
ReplyDelete"To his credit, he has stuck with with his guns, and he is staying on the good ship Hillary no matter what."
I disagree Mr. Field. Stephanie Tubbs Jones gives this as one of the reasons she is for Hillary--"I gave my word". That's not a good thing! Do we really want people in office who refuse to change their minds when more information becomes available? Doesn't that sound just like Bush and Cheney 'nem?
Hey, I hate watermelon too and I just finished eating a chicken wing.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I don't like your Mayor either. He seems to be like many of the other Obama-like mayors that are sooo popular these days. They seem to get in office and cater to the white population. I wonder if Barack will do that too.
Popeye still uses transfats so it's Safeway fried chicken for me, and it's damn fine fried chicken at that. They also have very tastey potato salad with eggs. I'm allergic to watermelon (sigh).
ReplyDeleteMy mayor is Ron Dellums and he's supporting Hillary. Shrug. So is SF Mayor Gavin Newsome and LA Mayor Villaraigosa. Oh well. The three of them have traveled around the state together (and out of state) drumming up support for Hillary. Shrug. I'm surprised Dellums is not supporting Obama but then I'm still in shock that RFK, Jr. is supporting Hillary. Oh, well. I like to believe that secretly Dellums is kicking himself in the butt for supporting Hillary.
Nutter had better get onboard the "O" Train soon cuz, the Borg Queen will be dropping out of the race lickety-split. possibly after North Carolina and then it's Obama all the way to Denver and the General Election in November.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what Sen. Clinton has done for New York, besides living in Chappaqua, one of the most elite and wealthy places in Westchester, I mean, really, isn't that where all the snobs who think service industry people are less than human reside?
ReplyDeleteHow about Bill's Meet the Bloggers in Harlem, complete with southern fried chicken, cornbread, ice tea and cherry pie? Notice how he invited only white bloggers?

When I was foolishly a Hillary supporter (until the Wright debacle),

hey field,
ReplyDeletei've been vegetarian for 2 years and if i ever fall off the wagon it'll be for "roscoe's chicken & waffles." as far as watermelon...
i'm still miffed with the junior senator from chi-town for his m.i.a. status during all the mlk tributes.
your mayor is right: we all don't speak with one voice. and i have a feeling you're right and mr. mayor can't back down now.
I agree with Andrew Sullivan as FN of the Day. How things change.
ReplyDeleteIn 2000, Sullivan was your typical apologist for the right. Fast forward a couple of years and Sullivan became a big critic of Bush and his policies, especially the Iraq war. Eight years ago, I wouldn't have thought I'd be calling Sullivan a Field Negro. He's come a long way. And now he's become a voice of reason in the presidential race. I have a lot of respect for his point of view.
Well, I'll take my wife's fried chicken wings or jerk chicken thighs on the grill over anyone's chicken. But Popeye's comes in second. Shame that there's only one in my entire state, in an interstate rest stop area...and it's the probably the only one in the country that sucks. Chicken is never hot or fresh. And I don't have a damn White Castle to fall back on either.

ReplyDeleteI love fried chicken and watermelon in that order. Nutter doesn't know what he's talking about.

I am getting hungry reading these comments. This has become a real Negro site with al the fried chicken references.
Where are all you sophisticated black folks "at?"
What's this about Staff Sergeant David Bellavia comparing SBO to Tiger Woods?
ReplyDeleteYou can have your Tiger Woods. We’ve got Senator McCain.
When I was a kid, the Woolworth's downtown used to sell the most delicious fried chicken by the piece and for cheap. A chicken breast with thick batter cost .50 cents. Now I know Woolworth's and good cooking don't sound like they go together but their fried chicken was to die for. Much better than KFC but not as good as Popeye's.
ReplyDeleteNutter liked the O man last year: http://www.democracyguard.org/ben/blog/1?page=1
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of like when people assume that I support Hilary because of a white 40 something female. I've actually had a white female co-worker who is in her fifties ask me how I could "NOT" support Hilary, as if it's a given that I would.
ReplyDeletefor the record, I like fried chicken and watermelon, but I don't like iced tea or lemonade ;)
I don't do fried foods as a rule but on a recent trip to Houston I tried Frenchy's Creole Fried Chicken (the Scott St. location) and YUM-O!
ReplyDeleteSee what you started, Field?
ReplyDeleteA sista had to go and get her grub on at Popeye's last night. Here in Virginia, the Popeye's down the street from my house has a 2-piece deal for $2.99 on Tuesdays (including a side). You get a choice of either white or dark meat at 1/2 price.
Thank you for making a sista that hongry. LOL

He's either saying that all mixed race men are interchangeable (which would make it a racist statement) or he was trying to give Obama a big compliment by comparing him to someone who is at the top of his game, which doesn't make sense because he is supporting McCain. In any case, the comment makes him an idiot and it makes McCain a moron for not saying something about it.
You can still say any damn dumb thing you want about black people and most of the media will not even break stride over it.
ReplyDeleteKellyBelle:
Reverse your clock to September/Octover 2006. On the verge of the mid-term elections then both Jackson-Lee and Tubbs-Jones had head gear on but what is now considered a handkerchief by some now was seen as a silk scarf back then.
You see those two women who are now scorned for their JUDGMENT were held in high esteem back then. At that time they were selling Black America on the BENEFITS of having the House taken over by the Democrats.
While they are now seen as having 'bad judgment' back then they were said to be agents of BLACK PROGESSION. The new "Black committee chairmen" that would result from this Democratic take over were going to "make us PROUD"!!
Any idea how these two women's fortunes turned so quickly?
All I can see is that they shifted from cheer leading for Blacks to vote Democrat in 2006 and then they cheered for BLACKS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT in the spring of 2008 once again. The only problem this time is that it is an INTRAMURAL FIGHT this time.
One thing that I an 10000% percent certain of though, come November 2008 there is NO BLACK PERSON WHO TELLS BLACK FOLKS TO "VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT" who will be "De-Blackified" as is the case right now for them 'misdirecting' their electorate during the intramural battle.
I like fried chicken well enough. I mean, I'll eat it if it's served to me. But I don't love it. I would never cook it, and very rarely would choose it over another food on a menu. Popeye's does nothing for me.
ReplyDeleteGood, cold, seedless watermelon, in season, on a hot day is wonderful.
Honestly, I can't figure out why anyone, Black, White (yes I capitalized both of them) or otherwise would vote for Hillary. In recent months she's shown herself to be woefully out of touch with just about everything. I can't see the appeal.
And, I don't know why anyone thinks that Ted Kennedy hasn't had White folks question his support of Obama. As part of the Democratic establishment - he was definitely expected to support the connected White woman rather than the Black upstart.
I am not surprised or disappointed in the least at certain Black people who support Hillary - they're doing what they think is the safe thing, doing what they're told and waiting for the crumbs to sprinkle down on them.
I am having a party in November on election night if he is the candidate. I am serving fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens (with turkey) and candied yams. You are all invited!

ReplyDeleteBut Black Barack Obama supporters are the "vanguard of proven change" and connectedness in Black America???????
My vantage point as a Black man who is not a Democrat (no I am not a Republican either) has me both laughing and astonished at the intramural death match which is going on. Terms that had formerly been reserved for people who disagree with the POPULAR political sentiments of Black America are now being applied to fellow Democrats who have it all wrong in their support.
The common denominator is that if you DISAGREE with the popular sentiment - you are going to get attacked. The same cajoling that was faced by the Dixie Chicks, for example, but condemned by 'the left' is also EMPLOYED by these same people. Group antics know no ideological bound.
For those of you who are Anarchist/Marxists on the blog - how do you reconcile your support for Obama with the fact that his biggest contributions have come from the same CAPITALISTIC lobby that you despise at your core? (PS: I just picked up the latest copy of "International Socialist Review" to advance my attempts to 'understand' you all and how you think. Forget "Faux News" - this material proves far more interesting http://www.isreview.org/)
Why is it that evil George Bush who received funding from these same entities was "bought and sold" before he even got into office but Obama who has the same stack of canceled checks (in addition to those from YOU) is not going to act upon these favors.....because YOUR MONEY in support of him will neutralize theirs? (Do you really believe this?)
west coast story,
ReplyDeletegood thing for obie...tiger usually wins!
Heads up Field! McCain, aka McStupid, McSalty, McMorton, I personally like McMoron, is going to Philly to speak to Black folks. South Philly, to be exact.

My gut gets sick when I eat watermelon too. But I can't resist the fried chicken. I'm a vegetarian, but I just ate the skin and batter off a chicken thigh.
