We decide we report, and you believe.

The people who come to this site on a regular basis are quite familiar with my strong dislike for all things FOX NEWS. My contempt for them has nothing to do with jealousy towards Rupert Murdoch and all his billions (although it would be nice if he throw a dollar or two my way). No, my contempt for them has more to do with my love for the people who make up this republic.

FOX NEWS is dangerous. Very dangerous, and if we can't stop them, we should at least be aware of the damage that they can do.

If you think that the mass media and the press can't be used to do unimaginable things, you better think again. Think of the folks who made up the Hutu majority slaughtering their Tutsi brothers and sisters in Rwanda while RTLM (Radio Rwanda) encouraged people to kill, kill, kill.

Think of Joseph Goebbels in Nazi Germany and the "Propagnamisterium" (propaganda ministry) he was charged to keep. In order for those sick fucks to be able to carry out their plan, they had to get the message out and have the people believe it.

Now I am not comparing Roger Ailes and the folks over at FOX NEWS to Nazis.....well, maybe I am. But I really do need you to understand just how dangerous these guys are. And when I read essays like the one I lifted below from Buzzflash editor, Mark Karlin, it just reinforces my position.

"The FOX Propaganda Network endangers my life -- and yours.
How else can you explain that a White House administration and Republican Party who have squandered hundreds of billions of dollars, countless lives, and a war longer than WW II -- and we haven't even caught Osama bin Laden?

The FOX Propaganda Network isn't set up to help save America from terrorists; it's the "Tokyo Rose" of television networks, set up to save the Republican plutocrats from the wrath of the voters who might otherwise realize the sheer and utter incompetence of Bush, Cheney and the GOP in dealing with terrorism.

Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Michelle Malkin and the entire multi-million dollar compensated on-air talents are traitors because their job is to protect the back and flank of the GOP, not to protect America.

And that is what puts my life at risk -- and yours.
Sean Hannity is no patriot. He is an oleaginous, slicked up car salesman chickenhawk who has sold America and us down the river for his paycheck.
One of the characteristics that we are most proud of about America is our ingenuity, our tenaciousness, our resilience.

Yet, the FOX Propaganda Network has spent the last years supporting moribund, stone headed, unwavering failure.

If you think being a chronic loser is patriotic, then FOX is the station for you, because that's what it backs. That's not patriotic; it's contrary to what made America great.
What made America great is competence and ingenuity, not slavish dedication to the architects of defeat.

FOX is a traitor in our midst. Yes, they have their First Amendment rights, and no one is going to deny Sean Hannity his $40,000 plus speaking fees and private jet transportation.
But they should be shunned for the risk they help to create to all our lives by endlessly championing dolts, proven liars, and leaders who turn gold into cow dung.

All FOX proves in its propaganda angle is that a few thousand hearty potential terrorists, at most, have held the world's strongest power at bay for years, while ruining our economy with onerous and ineffectual war expenses, helping to weaken the dollar, drive up the price of oil, and, in turn, helping to cause a world food crisis and more.

It used to be the American way that if you couldn't do the job, you got out of the way or got fired. But the fat paycheck propagandists at FOX now tell us that mediocrity and failure define the new American patriotism -- that and an American flag lapel pin made in China.
God have mercy on their souls -- and let's hope that we can survive the glorification that FOX gives to losers who imperil our lives.

We need an America that proves itself by getting the job done; not by relying on Roger Ailes GOP propaganda talking points to divert the masses from people who have utterly failed them. "

My sentiments exactly!

They are definitely biased, but no worse than MSNBC or NBC. And CNN has fired a few executives in recent years for being biased as well. I think ABC is doing pretty good on bashing everyone these days. The AP leans to the left in my opinion and they feed news to all of them.

What you said, Field! I really hope that more people come to realize that Fox News is as dangerous (and is *intended* to be) as any propaganda machine in the world! And it HAS cost people their lives. Fox News is no joke! I'm behind you 100%+ on this post.

Fox News is horrible. Rupert Murdoch is Hitler! I can't wait until he finally croaks. Why did Tim Russert have to go?! Why couldn't it be Hitler Murdoch. He is the most evil vile man who has destroyed American democracy. Fox News is 24/7 GOP media rant. It is dangerous. Hannity is trash in a suit. Bill O'Reilly is complete angry disgrace. The arrogance, racism, sexism, and complete ignorance has really destroyed this country.

CNN, MSNBC are better but not by leaps and bounds. Oh, and by the way - this election is already rigged for McCain.

How about Griff Jenkins calling the O-man a nerd? Classic Faux news. My rant today too. We need to continue to sound the alarm until Fox is dead and buried.

For the record, as a Doberman owner, I am thrilled that your graphic is a Doberman crapping on the Fixed News logo.

You're right. We need to call them out on it. CNN, ABC and NBC are trying to following suit, but it was definitely Faux News that set the bar so low. I watched Outfoxed and highly recommend it. Just a reminder that the airways are not privately owned and we can boycott the advertisers. It will need to a concentrated and sustained effort though. Field you should throw up the FCC in the mix because they are just as culpable for not getting these networks to comply to certain standards that they continually violate.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes, indeed! Fox should not be allowed to be on the air in no shape, form, or fashion. I recommend "Outfoxed" too, even professors that teach journalism recommend it.

In fact, how I found out about the documentary "Outfoxed" was through a friend of mine who is a professor that teaches journalism. One day I was telling him about some of the stuff Fox says on air, and he gave me the documentary to watch.

Hannity is the one that came up with those Reverend Wright and Michelle Obama controverial tapes. I got to watch all of the unedited versions of the sermons that Hannity had sliced and pieced together. Come to find out that Reverend Wright was quoting an Admiral Peck that had appeared on Fox News. Admiral Peck said, "America's chickens are coming home to roost." A lot of what Wright said was distorted and edited out. With Michelle's statement he cut off the rest of her sentence. Hannity is a scumbag, ex-bartender with no journalist credentials or degree in journalism.

Malik Shabazz called Hannity out on his relationship with Hal Turner, but even before that Max Blumenthal has wrote an article about Hannity and Hal relationship.

One other thing that Fox has a habit of doing is scrubbing their transcripts. If you tape their show, get one of their transcripts, and go back and compare them, they won't match.

Rupert owns Fox, but he has stock in CNN. However, I think Abrams is over MSNBC, not sure on this one. Abrams is full of it and a jerk. Olbermann is better than all of them if you ask me. He calls them out on their mess. Tim Russert was the one that started that Red States and Blue States mess. He wasn't all that, and he had his biases as well.

  8. BTW, the Madam DC scandal was hushed up by Fox News. They threw out veiled threats to Brian during some of their fox news segments. The Madam put some of those on her list phone numbers on a web site she had.

After her so-called suicide, O'Reilly said during one of his segments that she should have kept her mouth shut.

  11. TOTALLY OFF TOPIC:

On the sidebar, Field-- you refer to Bridgestone and say that Firestone is better. From the heart of the Rubber City (Akron, Ohio) I can tell you that Bridgestone IS Firestone-- Bridgestone bought Firestone years ago.

Goodyear, my brother, you want to buy Goodyear (and not just because they test their product using my company's product, either.)

    Carry on, brother, carry on.

Thanks for that info Renko, I will make sure to update that when I get a chance.

And sorry, maybe my bias is showing; but I can't see where CNN ,and NBC are as bad as FOX.

BTW, they have a new thing now about the "O"man and his gun to a knife fight reference. They think it was out of line and waaaay over the top.

  14. FOX's founder and president, Roger Ailes, was for decades one of the savviest and most pugnacious Republican political operatives in Washington.

A veteran of the Nixon and Reagan campaigns, Ailes is most famous for his role in crafting the elder Bush's media strategy in the bruising 1988 presidential race.

With Ailes' help, Bush turned a double-digit deficit in the polls into a resounding win by targeting the GOP's base of white male voters in the South and West, using red-meat themes like Michael Dukakis' "card-carrying" membership in the ACLU, his laissez-faire attitude toward flag-burning, his alleged indifference to the pledge of allegiance--and, of course, paroled felon Willie Horton.

Don't for a minute equivocate FOX with MSNBC and NBC or any other network. Like Field says, FOX is in a class unto itself. But don't believe me. Believe FOX's hiring of klanboy and Aryan Nation defender, Sean Hannity. No other network has an on-air personality who defends the Aryan Nation.

FOX NOISE Channel is a threat to journalism and free-minded people everywhere.
Look at how many GOP officials are over there. Huckabee, ROVE, Snow, especially ROVE. I HATE that guy! I use his picture as a punching bag sometimes.

It seems like every day they find a new way to sink the bar of dignity to the bottom of Puget Sound. Soon, we might see them start praying for the Apocalypse on live TV

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous9:04 AM

I can still hear GHW Bush making that statement about Dukakis being a card carrying member of the A ---- C ---- L---- U. He paused forever between each letter.

Then my wife turned to me and said, Hey, we never got a card.

But it was pure Republican genius. Most Americans believed the Republican lies that the ACLU was a commie pinko organization who defended child molesters, etc.

The problem with FOX News audience is they have authoritarian mindsets and telling them them Mr. Fair and Balanced O'Reilly, and the rest of those lapel pin wearing patriots are full of crap does not work. It only makes them more certain they are right. John Dean in Conservatives Without Compassion really explains theses people and how they think. The truth bounces right off these listeners. They see what they want to see and they hear what they want to hear and have dog-like loyalty.

Roger Ailes, who as I remember was a direct mail marketing genius, figured out how to get into these peoples heads, what buttons to push and how to use this knowledge to win elections for the conservatives. And of course when Dukakis donned that helmet that was too large for his pin head and sat on that tank, it was all over.

I think Fox News has done a great job honing in on the group think mindset. Fox News motto should be simple news for stupid people. I do not consider Fox News to have any semblence to journalism. Field is right, Fox News is dangerous because it inaccurately disseminate information causing even more miseducation of the public as if they were not misinformed enough. And what really gets me that you have so-called professionals on the air saying "these guys over thare" or "youse guys," so in addition to misinforming the public, they add in bag english to boot.

However, I not only blame Fox News, but the viewers who watch the station because they have no sense of curiosity or use critical thinking to even question the information they are receiving. The sad part is that the viewers do not even know the difference because they believe Fox News has their interests at heart and the station is within keeping of their core values whatever they might be.

One would think that viewers should be insulted by what Fox News is giving them by the way of news, but they are void of critical thinking and unwilling to double check the information given to them. I hate to say this, but I believe some people like being stupid because it's comfortable like an old pair of tennis shoes.

  19. Fox News is the root of all evil. I despise everything about that network--even the blonde bimbos who pass as "journalists" (by Fox standards, at least).

Braindead? Pleeeeeeeease! If anyone is braindead it's you, because the Republican party has done nothing for any race, black, white, hispanic, asian, Native American, etc., but caused unnecessary hardships and ruined this country.

Either you are just plain stupid or you're profiting from their BS. It's got to be one or the other of this I'm sure, because it is definitely not because you think that they've done a good job. If you're middleclass or poor you are experiencing the damage they've done and it wouldn't take a rocket science to figure that out. However, if you're one of those who have profited off our soldiers dying in Iraq, oil, and all the other outrageous things this administration has done in the name of a dollar, well...

I lived to see a lot of Presidents come and go, and Bush is by far the worse in history, and he should be named Mr. Destroyer! Everything the Republican party has touched in the last eight years has turned to dung, even our relationship with other countries. The Republican party is the only party that has set us back to the 1930's depression era. Once Bush is out of office, the American people will really get to see just how bad he has plucked us up.

Of course, your mindset does not believe in the United States of America and We the People, because you're probably to wrapped up in love with money at the expense of others to even care about other human being's sufferings because your one arrogant, selfish piece of dung.

If I had my way, Bush and Cheney wouldn't be getting any of the retirement money that Presidents and VP's get either. I would put a stop to that, because neither one of them deserves it. I haven't watched FoxNews in years (more than seven) why? why tune in to the Devil (CH)? I hardly watch the news, maybe Brian Williams. I get my news from The Daily Show or the internet. Most voters are too sophisticated to fall into the trap of tv news, give us the benefit of the doubt. Most people are too sophisticated to believe someone they don't know telling them their version of the news. Nowadays, we directly download speeches of the candidates or review their voting record. Why waste the energy talking about FoxNews?

it must be an older generational thing or something I can't fathom. If I had a friend who always badmouthed me or got me into trouble or some other negative thing I would stop dealing with that person. Please Explain why you devote so much time to FoxNews. I asked my classmates (college), friends in Boston, LA, Virginia, New Jersey, Arizona, if they watch Fox News in the last five years no one had? I'm baffled by your constant passing their negative stories along.

  38. A hearty amen to that essay. Fox is dangerous because it's the mouthpiece for one party. I think it as during the McClellan hoopla, I read that Cheney gave FOX an exclusive interview so that every other news outlet would have to cite FOX news. Well, as the warrior-philosopher Sun Tzu said:

"Know your enemy and know yourself and you need not fear the outcome of a thousand battles."

  42. Wow mesha, thanks for that list!

deacon blue, that is a great point. I watch the FOX NOISE folks all the time. But they better hope that the ratings people don't call me, because I will deny it.

  45. Porky,

Then don't "ass"-sume you know anything about me. You're free to ask and I will gladly answer but don't put misinformation on this blog about my views and opinions.

  46. Field-Negro:

It is easy to see that a PROPAGANDIST knows "game" when he sees it.

I record the Bev Smith Show daily, the Bill Moyers Journal and several other left wing news sources constantly.

Rather than being up in arms and try to shut them down - you should sit back and attempt to learn your "ideological adversaries" ways.

    This is what I do.

I have to tell you - there is no more biased sources that are more unified than the Black Media in America. From newspapers, to magazines, to radio to television programs - they operate as unpaid agents for the Democratic Party.

If there is one glimmer of hope for a potential Obama presidency is it that you leftists will be put on the spot and have to come to grips with your bias.

For example - Field-Negro - after all of the talk about MONEY IN POLITICS - Barack Obama has raised more money than anyone else in history. It is not only from individuals as the talking point says - it is also from the evil corporations that you all ride.

Did you hear today that Obama has decided to turn down the public financing of his campaign because of his war chest and thus can forego the restrictions that this brings?

Do you REALLY think that Bill Moyers and other leftists who have been talking about money and politics are going to attempt to sink Obama's ship after such a reversal from his promise?

    Keep dreaming dude.
