The Empress and her new clothes.

I honestly was trying to avoid writing about this next story. And I held out as long as I could. I already have an unfair rep. of being somewhat of a sexist, and I was afraid that writing about this subject would reinforce that unfair perception of moi. After all, if Sarah Palin was a male politician, would we have made such a big deal about her $150,000 shopping spree on the RNC's dime? I thought about that for a minute.....and the answer I came up with was, yes. I will use exhibit A, John Edwards, and his $200 hair cuts, to bolster my position. We killed the Breck Boy for his vainglorious ways, when his hair cuts were the story. So yes, Sarah, your ass is fair game.

Now let's talk about Sarah for a minute: Seems girlfriend hit up Neiman Marcus in the Twin Cities and Saks in the Lu for $75,062 and $41,850, respectively (that's funny, I never pegged St. Louis for a Saks kind of town), and girlfriend dropped another $4,100 for makeup and hair consulting. Even little baby Trig got hooked up. A $92 romper and matching hat did the trick for the little one. But seriously, hair consulting? Is that kind of like having a life coach just for your hair. Now why would Sarah need a hair consultant? I have some advise for you Sarah; and it won't cost you a dime: Lose that fucked up Aunt B hair style of yours. Try something else. Anything.

So in all, the little shopping spree came up to $150,000.00 all to dress up the hockey mom. (The Flyers are still winless) Sorry Sarah, your little makeover doesn't say small town middle A-merry-can values to me. In fact, it says style and appearance over substance. So let's see now: the average U.S. household spends $1,874 a year on clothes, you dropped damn near $100,000.00 on clothes in one month. That's a little more than just some lipstick there Sarah, don't you think? And I wonder if you will pay the taxes you will owe for these gifts? I am guessing you won't. After all, you do have some issues with stealing the government's money.

"Let's do what our parents told us before we probably even got that first credit card...Don't live outside of our means" Hear that A-merry-ca? Don't blow the entire college fund and 401K in just one month.

But as funny as this shit is, it's not what really has me pissed off about this story. No, it's the rethulicans reaction and how they carried about their little operation makeover in the first place. First, the arrogant pieces of shits are acting as if it's no big deal, just another case of the press picking on poor Sarah. And now we hear that they are going to donate the clothes to charity. Give me a break! Like what they are just going to drive that shit down to the Goodwill and drop it off. (Yes, I am Bob from the RNC, we have some Bob Mackie gowns here that we think you would just love to have )The slick ass rethuglicans, knowing that it's illegal for candidates to buy themselves clothes and personal items. So what did they do? They had a rehtuglican consultant, Jeff Larson, bill all the goodies to his firm, and then they reimbursed him. Larson, by the way, is running Mr. Morton's robo calls and is the same guy that ran the frat boy's robo calls against Mr. Morton in 2000. So in order to get around a little campaign law that McCain himself co-authored, the RNC used a middle man to get Sarah her clothes. You cant make this shit up.

So round and round it goes. Sarah and the family needed clothes because what, they don't have clothes in Alaska? The clothes they had didn't play well on television? What the hell, the woman was a governor of the state of Alaska for crying out loud, and her family didn't have any clothes? Can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot (no pun intended), and the DNC had hooked up Joe Biden with some suits? We wouldn't hear the end of it.

But enough of Saksgate, it's time we got back to focusing on the real important issues facing our country. How bout dem Phillies?

  1. Now I ca n understand the need for clothing, but does your 7 year old NEED a Louis Vuitton purse? I mean really???

I mean I love designer bags too, but I buy my own.

This is over the top, I won't say anything else...

  2. OT but this is pitiful:

A white woman (McCain supporter and volunteer) in PA claims that a black man assaulted her at an ATM and carved an inverted B (for Obama) on her face.

It now appears that the "B" was self-inflicted.

Check out Wonkette for pic's and details.

  8. Field,
Acc. to McCain, Palin wanted and needed new clothes.

Brad Blakeman, GOP strategist, appeared on MSNBC today, and expressed (fake) outrage @ Obama for jetting to visit his gravely ill grandma on a 767 campaign plane. "Obama s/b humping his bags on a commercial flight," he said.

Blakeman's argument is that a 767 is costlier (in energy and money) than the $150k that Repubs plunked down on Sarah and her family's makeover (which incl. an $800 Louis V bag for her 7 y.o. daughter).

  9. Field,
I did a blog on this yesterday. But as governor, what was she wearing in Alaska, feed sacks? What governor have you seen in this country that needed $150,000 for clothes? Plus some of that money went for little Palin, Mr. Alaska and Redneck boy.
Then in September Mr. Morton spent $8672.55 for makeup. Tell me any average woman or man who spends that much on make-up evry month and I'll run naked with you!

  12. Well, my take on this, is the same as pretty much all the decisions the McCain and Co have made in the last 2 months. They are pretty much guaranteeing an Obama victory. In all seriousness, McCain is running the worst campaign I have ever seen. I am beginning to think that a. once he was thrust into the national arena, his rashness has really been amplified. He has made one rash, bad decision after another, starting with choosing Palin or b. He really does not want to win. Maybe he did at some point, but he sure isn't acting like he does now.

  20. I had actuallly thought she needed to dress better and get a haircut, but as the saying goes "you can take the boy out of the country, but not the country out of the boy." Nothing is too form fitting for her or to colorful. I think it was a waste of money, her clothes are mostly inappropriate for an executive. She dresses like she's the candidate's wife. I don't see where the hair has changed any. Some apologist said her highlights are better now. What?

They should have had her featured on What not to Wear. They only give you $5000 to make your self over and she would have had help. I think one could shop even at Neiman Marcus for a few good pieces.

Michelle has shown affordable style and she knows the difference between looking professional as the lawyer and being the candidates wife.

    FIELD,
WHAT I THINK ABOUT SISTER SARAH IS THAT AT FIRST, WHEN SHE BECAME MCCAIN's running mate, she truly believed that she was capable of assuming that post, but now, she's simply running for herself.

She's not "studn" John McCain or his stupid campaign, because she is only positioning herself and getting herself situated for a larger role -- because she knows they are going to lose. She may not necessarily be looking at a run in 2012, but she sure as hell is looking beyond Alaska. She probably hates that she's stuck in the governing of Alaska, because she has tasted big-time America, and she obviously relishes the spotlight.

She cares nothing about McCain or Cindy or the Republican Party. She's all about Sarah. While John McCain's campaign used her at the beginning to win over the Hillary people, she, SisterSarah, is now doing the same thing to the McCain campaign. Turn-around in fair play. Now, when the election is over, she won't simply fade into the background. She will do the Sarah Tour, contract with a publisher and eventually do several book tours, she'll half-ass govern Alaska (and won't seek re-election), and she'll hire a series of nannies to care for her special-needs child.

Yes, oh, yes. SisterSarah has eaten from the big table, so there's no turning back now. She knows that she's not qualified to run the country in the event that something happens to McCain, but when he so foolishly asked her to be his running mate, she didn't blink, because she saw the offering as her once-in-a-lifetime ticket out of the trailer park. She saw (and sees) herself beyond whatever Wasilla ever had to offer her. She even tried to fix up her little girl -- the one who insists on parade-waving at every stage she's on, the same one with the oversized Louis Vuitton(sp) bag.

Oh, yes. SisterSarah is on to bigger and better things. If you notice the dynamics (or lack of dynamics betw. McCain and her), you'll notice an obivious strain there, which wasn't there at the very beginning. I think McCain probably hates her more than he hates himself for -- for all the stupid and mindless things she keeps on saying, and I think she hates him, because he's such a twit.

When the election's over and Barack has won, hands down, follow SisterSarah for a minute, and see how she circles the globe with her nonsensical gibberish, promoting herself.

You're going to write in your blog, "You know, that lady was right about SisterSarah." (Please note that I'm not referring to Sarah Palin as any kind of sister-sister. I'm referring to her as a right-wing church-going, trailer park sister of the cloth.

I was just getting ready to say that. We on the same page. (smile) What she did was inflicted that "B" on herself while standing in the mirror, and that's why it's backwards. I figured out how she did it, but what I'm still giving thought to is what method she used to give herself that blackeye. I'm thinking that she put something in a sock and did it. Although, she could have had one of her friends to do that part, and they just didn't sock her too hard, but hard enough that she would bruise, because you know she probably bruise easy.

One thing I know for sure is that she is lying. If a person carved a "B" in her face, it wouldn't be backwards. I tell you some folks is just plain scandalous, low-down, and trifling.

I don't know how much a professional makeover costs, but I can't blame them for doing one. But I don't believe it would cost $150,000 and more importantly, I don't think anyone spent that kind of money for that purpose.

If anyone actually bothers to investigate this, I think they'd learn that this is a case of embezzlement of campaign funds.

The whole thing is suspicious as hell. Why report it to the F.E.C. to begin with? The answer: To justify $150,000 in disbursements. Someone surely figured no one would look. But then they looked. And, when they did look, first the media reported the $150,000. Nice fun story for a day! Ha ha!

Then the media actually started calling the recipients named in the documents, and it turns out there there are NO RECEIPTS for this $150,000 in spending, and that the vendors where it was supposedly spent deny that there were purchases.

I think someone swiped $150,000 and went and spent substantially less than that on clothes and makeup for Sarah. I further think that, as we write, someone at the R.N.C. is talking to someone else at the R.N.C. in rather direct tones. Something like this: "Where's the fuckin' money? Get that money back or else!"

    That's what I think.

Oh, and the attack by the big black mugger? Tawana Brawley in reverse. How high up in the McCain campaign is the question. I mean, we're talking Western Pennsylvania here, i.e. the part of PA that's West Virginia. As soon as the dastardly deed was reported, none other than Sarah herself was on the horn to offer her sympathy to the poor girl.

The hoax will be fully revealed soon. Then the question becomes: Will the media pay any attention, like, say, they were all over the horrible injustice of Daily Kos questioning whether Sarah's kid was really hers? The black-attack hoax came directly from the McCain camp, while the doubts about Trig came from outside the Obama campaign, but will that matter? Something tells me not. This will vanish.

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, October 26, 2004

Election '04: If George Bush loses the popular vote but takes the Electoral College, as he did in 2000, expect an all-out assault on the musty old process.
That's consistent with his opponents' majoritarian impulses - and their reaction four years ago. But it's inconsistent with the arrangement set up by the men who framed our system. The U.S. is not a democracy, though it's almost always referred to as such. It is a republic.
Under the original plan, only members of the House of Representatives were directly elected. Senators, until the Constitution was amended in 1913, were appointed by state legislatures. And so the smaller states would not become utterly meaningless in presidential elections,

all you have to do is put bambie's name in place of bushmaster's...I see it coming

Over 25 People Dead in the East End (where this happened). And they report on the crackpot lady.

I agree, that looks like makeup. I've been punched in the face before, and it swells.

Lady "refused medical attention" because she didn't want her shit called out.

And police won't be backing her.

Heck, in this market, you could buy a house for $150k. My objection, in addition, to the price tag was the brands purchased for her. (She did not indeed make these purchases for her.) For someone who is so "pro-America," her wardrobe should have been focused on American designers and manufacturers. Heck she could have gone to Talbots and the like, been hooked up for under $10k. Louis Vuitton bags, although lusted after by many an American woman, are NOT pro-America.

One more thing: That skirt she wore during the McCain - Brian Williams interview was too doggone SHORT! I can't take a woman seriously who's flasshing that much thigh!

You can buy a really nice 3 bedroom/2 bath home in many parts of the country and put a new car in the garage for that much coin.

If I won the MegaMillions, I wouldn't and couldn't spend $150,000 on clothes.

The amazing thing is, despite this outrageous clothing budget, McCandy still manages to look like a $40 Vegas hooker.

  65. This is my take, or at least part of it.

Rural Americans feel ignored within "Mainstream Society." Other than being portrayed as Ignorant Hillbillies, they don't see themselves in our culture.

Rural/Small Town America was decimated by the exodus of Manufacturing jobs over the last 30 years, and the people, whether they'll acknowledge it or not, are Pissed Off, and Rightly So (There are towns within my state where unemployment is over 20%).

Unfortunately, as most people do when they're Pissed Off, they displace their anger.

They see someone like Palin, who pretends to be "One of Them," and they go Apeshit.

It doesn't matter what she does, as long as she says what they want/need to hear: It's the "Elitist's" fault, it's "Affirmative Action," it's the "Mexicans," "Why do minorities get Special Treatment?," "I'm one of you," blah, blah, blah.

In other words, "Don't pay attention to the Man/Woman behind the curtain."

If they had any sense, "Small Towners" would despise Republicans more than anyone. Not because Palin has an $800 handbag, but because Republicans are the ones who started the mass exodus of jobs overseas with tax incentives, and subsidies for corporations.

Think about it, some of "Joe Six Pack's" own tax dollars were given to the company for which he worked, so the company could move to another country.

Joe was forced to pay to have his own job eliminated.

    That's fucked up.

    Anger almost always flows downstream.

Pissed off at the Boss Man? Curse your wife, and beat your kids.

Or, in this case, blame "Blacks," "Mexicans," and "Muslims."

Joe still wants to believe his "Hard Work" will one day pay off. Seeing Palin with an $800 purse reinforces his delusion.

How are you going to talk smack about the Dems being elitists then spend 150K on clothes? Most Americans don't make that in a year.

I get that she needed some new clothes but come on!

I think she could have done it on 20K really. I can't believe they bought a child a LV bag. WTF? I don't think she is going to want to donate that bag.

But another part of me is upset, just like I was irritated by Tawana, her no-count family, the showboatin' Reverend Al, and by Charles Stewart, and the Boston Police, and by anyone else who decides they are going to hop on the Race Train and take us all for a thrill ride.

I'd like it if the little "B" were thoroughly exposed in the national media for this one. Seems to me that, as a group, black men have enough challenges without having little white Republican Bs running around tellin' trailer park tales about how they were assaulted by them big black bucks.

Officer! The big black buck was 6' 4" tall and he sat my my chest and, well maybe he did the nasty, and the next thing I knew I woke up with this B carved on my face! What is this, an outtake from Birth of a Nation?

Who knows, my attitude might be influenced by the fact that I've got a couple of nephews who are black bucks, having been adopted a long time ago by one of my brothers. They're great young men, and I worry about what's behind the smiles of some of the people they meet.

There is good news and bad news. They're going to have a black president to look up to, and most of those smiles they see are genuine. But at any moment, some little white B can claim that asome black buck did some nasty thing and there will be my nephews, under silent suspicion.

Yeah, I know, it's how the world is. The world gets better, slowly and surely, and of course nothing goes up in a straight line. But this one, ridiculous and (pardon the pun) darkly comedic as it is, still upsets me.

Hey FN...this whole deal about the hate mongering little Ashley, has really made me take a step back and think about this current generation of young republicans. At the risk of going "old fart" on you, I think we are seeing the end result of kids today, that have been weaned on internet anonymity, and really don't know when to separate that from reality.

It's a new phenom, but under the cover of the anonymity the internet provides, people can say whatever they want, and, as long as they are careful, there is absolutely no fear of retribution. It tends to lay the black hearts of the conservative party out bare and exposes them for what they really are-selfish, racist hate mongers that care little for anything but THEIR god, THEIR guns, THEIR taxes, and THEIR rights. Ironically, they also care little about who they are hypocritically willing to have others step on and oppress, to ensure that THEIR right to be a selfish hate mongering little shit does not get infringed upon.

We mistakenly believe they are few in number and will soon crawl back under their rocks. Sadly, however, because of the cover of anonymity, they tend to get louder meaner, and more obnoxious. They feed off each other. Over this past generation, they have managed to take their dark selfish politics from the edge to the status-quo. Progressive and altruistic ideologies that were once once inherent to American youth, have mostly disappeared. Sadly, they have been replaced by a generation weaned on the selfish callous disregard of Reaganomics, the teeth gnashing jingoism and underlying racist garbage spewed forth by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Mikey Savage, the corruption of Christianity to encompass the "who can we hate the most" dogma, and this seething neurotic hatred of liberals and the federal government.

The problem arises for them, when the few brave souls that have been so securely nestled in the bunkers of their moms basement, venture forth out in to the real world, forgetting that their anonymity gets checked at mommies door. We are just seeing the conservatives really are...bullies, but only bullies if no one is there to take them to task and call them on their shit. As has become apparent lately, strip that anonymity away and they all tend to curl up in the fetal position, and start crying that "it's just not fair...why are you oppressing me?"

The altruist in me say's pity them. The realist in me says screw them...they deserve worse than what they are getting.

You know Stacey and Clinton would have probably dressed Sarah Palin for a lot less. I do not understand why the baby needed a stroller because everything I see the baby being held by someone as if he was some kind of prop. Why would anyone hold a baby as if he or she was a football, but I digress.

There is an interesting article in the October 27 issue of the New Yorker (Yes I still read the New Yorker) about Sarah Palin and how she may not be that Washington outsider she leads everyone believes. While it is true, she is certainly no intellectual, Palin is a very calculating and I do not underestimate her. She is even uncutting her running mate Grandpa and using him as a stepping stone to put herself into place for 2012. I would not fall asleep on her at all.

    hmmmm..no comment:

I just watched some highlights of Brian William's interview with Sarah Palin and John McCain.

    This exchange was shocking:

Brian Williams: Back to the notion of terrorists and terrorism, this word has come up in relation to Mr. Ayers -- hanging out with terrorist - domestic terrorists. It is said that it gives it a vaguely post uh 9-11 hint, using that word, that we don't normally associate with domestic crimes. Are we changing the definition? Are the people who set fire to American cities during the '60's terrorists, under this definition? Is an abortion clinic bomber a terrorist under the definition?

Sarah Palin: There is no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was um one who sought to destroy our US Capitol and our Pentagon -- that is a domestic terrorist. There's no question there. Now others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or um facilities, that uh, it would be unacceptable -- I don't know if you could use the word terrorist, but its unacceptable and it would not be condoned of course on our watch.

Why mention your family adopted "black bucks" your statements are a nicer version of white power's statements. My boss states "I'm not racist, but please don't leave me alone with these Mexicans, I'm scared."

Oh come on. There are two mirror image cases that are bookends on the fake hate crime front. One of them is Tawana Brawley and the other is Charles Stuart. I mentioned them both.

The "black buck" stuff was obviously sarcastic. What this Ashley girl did truly offends me. It was calculated to reach into the white subconscious and yank at strings. You might not believe me when I say it, but when people do that I insulted, angry, and embarrassed, pretty much in that order.

Let's face it, that's what the young College Republican was doing. She was drawing on primitive race-based fear. Anyone who denies that it's out there is fooling themselves at best.

The most than can be said for Ashley is that she's nuts. I always thought, for example, that Jeffrey Dahmer the cannibal never should have been sent to prison but to the state nuthouse, because anyone who did what he did was crazy. Maybe it's the same for Ashley, on a lesser scale.

But I don't let McCain off the hook, that's for sure. He put out a statement saying they were "shaken" by the "sick and disgusting" incident. I think that was cynical as hell, myself.

As for my nephews, well, look. Maybe I got too emotional. They're great people and I think about them in connection with these things. Yet, you do have a point about my parading them as a credential, and I'll avoid it in the future.

  94. There is an aspect of this that ABSOLUTELY should not be overlooked, which is the McCain campaign's exploitation of the whole thing.

The girl herself is unbalanced. She is a classic misfit right out of the classic book about mass movements at the weak minded: The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer. As much as she irritates the hell out of me, she's a bit player.

What matters a lot more to me is that the McCain campaign hyped this story to the Pittsburgh media, which is what the link above is about. They gave further hyped-up details that turned out not to be true, and they told the media that the McCain campaign was "shaken" by the "sick and disgusting" attack.

In other words, the McCain campaign was playing the Black Savage card to the hilt. In western PA, an area known for its redneckiness, at a time when the McCain campaign was hoping to revive itself in PA, and then the rest of the country, with a comeback that would start in the western part of the state.

The McCain people are going to spin this as the lone actions of a deranged wacko. At some level that's true, but the McCain people were perfectly willing to amplify and spread that lie and inject it into a population of people who they knew would be predisposed to think the worst.

A long, long time ago I remember reading about the social environment that allowed the KKK to operate with impunity. The crackers who actually did the dirty deeds were just the sharp end of the stick; there was always someone behind the scenes with clean hands and plausible deniability.

Although your comments don't rise to that level of vileness, it's vile nevertheless.

I just want you to know that you don't speak for me.

You, two, must be in a great deal of pain, not to empathize with this young woman who's in considerable emotional pain herself.

Your lack of empathy frightens me more than what she did as an manifestation of her own illness.

You need to take a deep, penetrating look into your own psyche, your own soul, to determine where all that rage comes from.

I hear it as a cry for help, more than anything else.

How you decide to respond, if you do, will either confirm my suspicions, or dismiss them.

I'm just not how you sell a $150k shopping spree to a family in middle America that won't make that much money gross in three, four, maybe five years. Sounds like the McPalin ticket is a little more Paris Hilton than they'd like to admit.

Field, the Phillies in the Series is proof positive that we are in the End of Times and the apocalypse is near. ;)

And Asshole Todd's 15 minutes are over. Toss her psycho ass in the big house and lose the key.

  107. black diaspora, I agree with you. I think Ashley is a troubled young woman, age 20 going on 14. The real culpability in this incident is with the McCain campaign, which made a purposeful decision to spray gasoline on a fire. Ashley herself, well, having seen some serious mental health issues up close, I am inclined toward mercy.

Rarely do people regret showing mercy to the fools of the world. Maybe I have a thing for the fools, having been (or at least felt like) one more often than I'd care to recall.

  108. @grinder: "well, having seen some serious mental health issues up close, I am inclined toward mercy."

Grinder, I've only had one mental episode in my life and it made me rethink everything I thought I knew about mental health.

Had it not been for prayer, I don't think that I would be here today.

The episode was unwelcomed, unexpected, and relentless.

I'm no longer glib about the subject of mental health, nor am I dismissive.

A person has to experience it just once to realize just how horrible it can be.

  109. 1. You don't spend that kind of money at department stores unless you're used to it. Shopping to that degree takes real practice.

    2. "I have some advice for you Sarah; and it won't cost you a dime: Lose that fucked up Aunt B hair style of yours. Try something else. Anything."

Thanks Field, I am glad someone besides me has said that.

I'd love to see her spend another $150K on clothes. Every penny spent on clothes is a penny NOT spent on the kajillion robocalls I get every fucking day.
