The latest newsletter by an Inland Republican women's group depicts Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken, prompting outrage in political circles.
The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps -- instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of "Obama Bucks" -- a phony $10 bill featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body, labeled "United States Food Stamps."
The GOP newsletter, which was sent to about 200 members and associates of the group by e-mail and regular mail last week, is drawing harsh criticism from members of the political group, elected leaders, party officials and others as racist.

Special to The Press-Enterprise
An Inland Republican women’s group sent out a newsletter showing this fake $10 “food stamp” with Barack Obama’s face on it.
The group's president, Diane Fedele, said she plans to send an apology letter to her members and to apologize at the club's meeting next week. She said she simply wanted to deride a comment Obama made over the summer about how as an African-American he 'doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.'
'It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don't want to go into it any further," Fedele said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn't my attempt.'
Fedele said she got the illustration in a number of chain e-mails and decided to reprint it for her members in the Trumpeter newsletter because she was offended that Obama would draw attention to his own race. She declined to say who sent her the e-mails with the illustration.
She said she doesn't think in racist terms, pointing out she once supported Republican Alan Keyes, an African-American who previously ran for president.
'I didn't see it the way that it's being taken. I never connected,' she said. 'It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else.'
She said she also wasn't trying to make a statement linking Obama and food stamps, although her introductory text to the illustration connects the two: 'bama talks about all those presidents that got their names on bills. If elected, what bill would he be on????? Food Stamps, what else!" Club Member Cries
Sheila Raines, an African-American member of the club, was the first person to complain to Fedele about the newsletter. Raines, of San Bernardino, said she has worked hard to try to convince other minorities to join the Republican Party and now she feels betrayed.
'This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes.'
The Obama campaign declined to comment. It's the campaign's policy to not address such attacks, said Gabriel Sanchez, a California spokesman for the campaign.
The newsletter prompted a rebuke from another African-American member of the organization, which is well recognized in the community for its philanthropy and efforts to register and turn out voters in the Rancho Cucamonga and Upland areas.
Acquanetta Warren, a Fontana councilwoman and member of the women's group, said the item is rude and requires a public apology.
'When I opened that up and saw it, I said, 'Why did they do this? It doesn't even reflect our principles and values,' said Warren, who served as a Republican delegate to the national convention in September and is a regional vice chairwoman for the California Republican Party. "I know a lot of the ladies in that club and they're fantastic. They're volunteers. They really care -- some of them go to my church.'
Warren forwarded an electronic version of the newsletter to the California Republican Party headquarters, where officials also were outraged Wednesday and denounced the illustration.
Hector Barajas, the party's press secretary, said the party chairman likely will have a conversation with Fedele, and Barajas will attend the statewide California Federation of Republican Women conference this weekend in Los Angeles to handle any news media there to cover the controversy. Obama in Turban.
The newsletter is not the first such episode Barajas has had to respond to this week. The Sacramento Bee on Wednesday posted an image it said was captured from the Sacramento County GOP Web site that showed Obama in a turban next to Osama bin Laden.
It said: "The difference between Osama and Obama is just a little B.S." The site also encouraged members to 'aterboard Barack Obama,'a reference to a torture technique. The Sacramento County party took down the material Tuesday after being criticized.
Mark Kirk, a spokesman for the San Bernardino County GOP chairman, said he expects Chairman Gary Ovitt to also have a talk with Fedele and to attend the group's local meeting next week to discuss the issue with members, although the county GOP has no formal oversight role over the club. Kirk said these kinds of depictions hurt the party's ongoing efforts to reach out to minorities.
'It's very damaging and we're going to take steps to correct this,' Kirk said. 'Unfortunately, I don't know what you do to correct ignorance like this, but we will do what we can.'
Assemblyman Bill Emmerson, R-Redlands, and state Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, both criticized the illustration as inappropriate and irresponsible.
Dutton pointed out that his wife, a member of the club, is of Mexican heritage and has battled criticism that the Republican Party is not the party for minorities. The club's newsletter undercuts efforts to rise above racism, he said.
'Bias and racial comments and even suggestions are frankly what weakens us as a people. I think we as Americans need to rise above that,' he said.
Emmerson said he was extremely offended and sickened by the newsletter.
Barbara O'Connor, director of the Institute for the Study of Politics and the Media at Cal State Sacramento, said it's imperative that people speak out about these kinds of depictions no matter how small the organization. She praised Raines for doing so.
'It's a statement about what is civil discourse and can you get away with doing something under an organizational banner,' she said. "You have to cut it out at the root and the root is often small organizations that are local and they then become larger.'

Okay where do I start?......let me start with poor house Negro, Sheila. Sheila, you cried for 45 minutes? Instead of crying, why didn't you you go to your leader, Ms. Fedele, and slap the trick with a nice open palm? I admire the fact that you try to recruit other people of color to your party. But you have got to stand up to ignorance in your party, or you will continue to be the only spot under that republican tent.
Ms. Fedele, you voted for Alan Keyes? Damn! Racist AND stupid. Looks like you have got all the basis covered there Diane. You would make a perfect republican VP candidate. Just like a certain beauty queen.
I swear, November 4th can't come soon enough.
Sheila, how was it that you missed all the previous signs? I know the reason you probably vote Republican is because you have qualms about abortion, those "gay guys" or actually make enough money to benefit from those cuts. Did you not notice how you were never "invited" to stuff, or approached to see if you wanted to move up in the party? How blind can you be not to notice that there's not a single black Republican in Congress, in a Governorship, or even a mayor of a major city. Don't even let me get started with the wingnut welfare stuff you never got invited too.
ReplyDeleteHow do you explain Katrina to the people you tried to recruit, explain away the callous attitudes of your party toward anyone with a shade deeper than a suntan?
If this was a wakeup call for you, Sheila, you were comotose.
Watch...McSame will somehow spin this into an attack on HIS campaign. These folks are pathetic. I'm glad they're toast.
ReplyDeleteSheila is an idiot, that's all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteField, I'm with you, fuggit all that crying, asses would have been getting kicked.
To me it's just a glimpse of a part of A-merry-ca...that peculiar part of our nation...you know those "pro-America areas" that Palin is referring to...you know those "areas"...the ones that believe a nigger is still a nigger..even if he's an Harvard-educated one.
ReplyDeleteAnd Field, if you think that's bad, you gotta see some of those uncut interviews floating on YouTube at McCain/Palin rallies that ain't getting MSM coverage.
And let's be real...we KNEW this shit was gonna be happening as the election got closer.
isms are alive and fomenting in A-merry-ca and we should expect worst IF Obama wins.
btw..love your blog.
keep it real my brotha!
If this had been one of the Obama girls what do you think would have happened?
ReplyDeletehttp://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_piper_palin_finger.htm
When I was a kid I wish we could have got some KFC with food stamps!
ReplyDeleteOlberman had this on last night and...oh yeah...I haven't heard McNuggets repudiating anyone about this.
Field, don't count my Sox out yet to face your Phills.
As a Canadian I had no idea America was as racist as we see all over the net and on TV. My wife (who is voting absentee for Obama) phoned me at work crying today. She was, to say the least, shocked at the racism from an Ohio early voting station that CNN was showing.
ReplyDeleteBetween racism, wars, and finacial collapse I'll be amazed if the country survives. The more I look at America the more ignorant it looks.
The majority of Americans are decent people who want to live peaceful and in harmony with all Americans, and that includes doing that with people of color. But, we do seem to be having an overflow of snakes in the grass. Yup, the snakes in the grass are showing their ugly head and spitting out poisonous venom on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteBlackgirlinmaine:
Granny hates to say it, but I feel ya!
Today on Chris Matthews, a Republican female House Representative for Missouri, disturbed me with her conversation of who she feels qualifies as an American and who does not. Of course, you know that Obama and Michelle Obama names are at the top of the list, and Biden's is third, with runner ups Pelosi and Reid. One thing is for sure, she's a good liar, and lies with a straight face. She is another dangerous thinking woman, Palin's mental twin.
I wouldn't have joined that group to begin with. I remember back in college some folks tried to get us to join the Republican Party in order to "balance" our interests. Besides being naturally liberal, I wasn't interested in joining a group where I could swim in the ocean of endless insecurity. But some people have harder heads than others and less sense.
ReplyDeleteInstead of crying, why didn't you you go to your leader, Ms. Fedele, and slap the trick with a nice open palm?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts, exactly, Field, but you named the reason: SHE'S A HOUSE NEGRO TURNED SLAVE CATCHER.
She is a slave catcher for trying to recruit minorities to join the Bigot Party.
I'm from California, and can truthfully tell you that outside of LA, the Negroes in that part of Southern California (from Ontario and San Bernadino all the way down I-10 to the 405 going to San Diego - they are all HOUSE NEGROES or SLAVE CATCHERS, because they think that living outside of Los Angeles County makes them better than the brothas and sistas IN Los Angeles County.
And they wonder why every time there's a firestorm or flood, its their neck of the woods that always get devastated by the natural disasters.
I keep advocating for the whole state of California to split up into two separate states: Northern California, where the progressives live, and Southern California, so these fools can do their own thing and stop tarnishing the reputation of the state, Ah-nold not withstanding.
What I don't understand is why is Ms. Fedele allowed to continue being President of this...organization? Shouldn't she be stripped of her office and booted out of the group for that shyt?
ReplyDelete"She is another dangerous thinking woman"
ReplyDeleteMethinks Granny is waaaay too generous in ascribing any "thought" to these jackboot Nazi assholes. They use nothing more than the reptilian brain stem to outline their version of "America"; a place with internment camps to house people who get in the way of their wingnut agenda.
I saw the story last night on Keith Olberman and the woman was part of the worst person segment on his show. I love the explanation that she didn't know it was offensive, she only thought about it in the sense of food. I think she was watching "Birth of a Nation" before she created that dollar bill.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of her explanation that she didn't know, the word mendacity comes to mind. If this any person honestly believes the explanation is remotely plausible, then my name Carmen Santiago, not. She playing what I card the ignorance card. That's right, the card given you the freedom of having a dumb blond moment, that dear in the headlights look pretending that you have no idea how that new $400.00 pair of Cole Haan shoes managed to get into your shopping bag while explaining it to her husband and that she only purchased a scarf. Give me a break. The woman knew it was racist, the problem was that she did not think anyone would notice it because she did not believe she would get caught.
Now Field, you know as well I do that Alan Keyes is not a black person. I am still trying to figure out if Keyes even belongs to the human race as I wonder if he is even of this world. Perhaps he was born in some parallel universe where they speak the language of incoherent english and their eyes are opened wide as if toothpicks were holding up their eyelids. Does Keyes does even blink? I don't mean to be funny, but Keyes looks like a fly on crack.
Are those two black women in the GOP for real, more than the racist who 'didn't know' that she is a racist. It was funny to read how she 'cried for 45 minutes," why in the world is she crying and not demanding that her party get rid of this two bit bigot? Tears are for children, stand up and be a real woman if you believe in the 'conservative' point of view. She now knows she is as black as the rest of us, and, that the GOP does not want her in their 'party,' but, then again, the same could be said about some Democrats.
ReplyDeleteAnd, since I grew up in San Diego, college in OC, and, both are hot beds of bigotry and now San Francisco, with the alleged 'progressives' here, who are 'progressive' on everything but things black folks are concerned about for a better quality of life, Cali isn't this wonderland of liberals that many seem to think it is, many think what this churl printed, they just don't say it to your face, be it in San Francisco, LA , the so called Inland Empire or San Diego.
ernesto:
ReplyDeleteMethinks you might be right. (wink) Granny is trying to the best of her ability to maintain her religion, but if this keeps up I might just backslide for a few paragraphs.
What gets me is that most racist like this woman attributes chicken, watermelon, and ribs to blacks folks, but they eat these food items as well. BTW, Granny hates watermelon, and I'm not too fond of chicken. I ate enough chicken when I was a kid. Although, I have nothing against chicken, I prefer fish and ribs is my favorite, so you know that woman is in my brown book. Don't badmouth ribs. My granddaddy had a farm and had a watermelon patch on section of his land, and I was the only one out of all of his grandkids he never had to worry about asking for no watermelon.
ReplyDeleteI guess next they'll be coming out to Palin/McCain rallies with painted with blackfaces and posters with all those little exaggerated caritures (spelling?) of black folks.
ReplyDelete*caricatures* I think...
ReplyDeleteWhelp, we now know that Jim Crow never ended, it just put on a new pair of clothes.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the more I hear about Cali from the folks who post here, the more I am starting to realize why they elected the fake ass cowboy to be their governor.
ReplyDeleteDavid, great come back by your Red "Saaax" last night. But I gota tell ya, I don't think this will be another "Red Sox Nation" year.
I don't think they will be in the WS with the "Fightins".
".. And Field, if you think that's bad, you gotta see some of those uncut interviews floating on YouTube at McCain/Palin rallies that ain't getting MSM coverage."
powertothepeople, I have seen some of them, and although I knew that these folks lived among us, it's kind if scary when they come out of the woodwork.
BTW, thanks for the kind words.
People like this are stoking a fire that is going to get out of hand. I for one do not want to see another 1964 with a bunch of crazy skin heads, KKK and other nutbags running loose killing people, Americans, us. They are destroying a country, to win an election.
ReplyDeleteHennasplace,
ReplyDeleteRFLMAO on "Alan Keyes looks like a fly on crack."
And I feel you that he's from a parallel universe.
Field:
ReplyDeleteGranny lives in CA too,and I cross my heart and hope to spit, I did not vote for no Cowboy or Actor for Governor. No Lawd, not I, they didn't fool me. That's them Southern CA folks, and maybe, some of them further up North in the mountains folks. The city I live in predominantly Democratic.
'I didn't see it the way that it's being taken. I never connected,' she said. 'It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else.'
ReplyDeleteThis is the biggest load of bullshit! As an middle aged, cranky white lady, I guarantee you that ALL white folks know these stereo-types... hell, white folks are the ones that perpetuate them!
She is a lying sack of shit and that is being kind!
Well I can feel the passion in here! Lets channel that towards something that counts.. VOTING.
ReplyDeleteThe deadlines for requesting an absentee ballot are NEXT week. This is really important for students or anyone else who can't be at home on election day - and every vote counts in NC, VA, and all the other swing states.
You can order your state's guide here: at www.longdistancevoter.org
Those deadlines are NEXT week. Maybe you don't need an absentee ballot. SO email your friends - your school newspaper.
Sheila's voting, and so should you. May the best man win...

corny...but yeah, those upper crusted GOP don't fancy fried chicken, watermelon, or ribs. They're too proper for such delicacies that the "commoners" relish in...ROFL!!!
ReplyDeleteEven Cali has its own share of crackers. They happen to live inland, far away from the major cities.
ReplyDeleteUnlike Gov. Palin, I believe in science, and I believe that modern polling is pretty fucking good science. When 9 out of 10 polls say something, I round it off.
ReplyDeleteNow, we know the Republicans will lie, cheat and steal. We know they're trying to set something up with these Ayers and Acorn associations. We also know that the bastards fucking-well stole the election in 2000, and that they mostly won in 2004 by suppressing minority and liberal votes in Ohio.
We also know who owns the fucking Supreme Court.
I am worried, not of losing the election, but of having it stolen. Frankly, I think we should have rioted in 2000. But just as Field has promised to run naked down some street if Obama should be elected, I promise this in front of you here assembled that if this election is stolen, I will spend the rest of my days in prison, because I will be in the streets, and I will be angry.
I'm just saying, that's all.
I have not actually seen a food stamp in 20 years. I guess no Republican shops where the current debit cards are used. Those that use those cards that only vote Republican, don't realized that they are never invited to those clubs or black tie events. Do they notice they don't shop at the same places ordinary Republicans shop.
ReplyDeleteHouston:
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, you won't have to spend the rest of your days in prison, and Field is going to do that streaker thingee. Obama is going to be the next President of the United States of America. I don't care what McCain and the Parrot with lipstick pull, it is going to backfire on them, and it won't work. Obama is going to come out on top.
I am sure you remember me mentioning that Obama reminded me of one of my uncles who, also, was a gentleman, well, I forgot to mention he played poker too. He was good at it, real good at it. Anyway, people that play poker and can play the game good are skillful at sizing their opponents up and for some reason I think McCain might be in for a big surprise.
San Bernardino is ghetto as hell. Ontario, Rancho, & even parts of Pomona & Fontana is safe. But Fontana does operate from a pleasantville state of mine.
ReplyDeleteIt is times like this that I wish there were a Drop Squad *for real*. Sheila needs to be dropped like nobody's business. Crying for 45 minutes over this shit? Like she's back in school in first grade and someone called her the n-word for the first time.
ReplyDeleteI'm a California native (northern California) but I live in the midwest now, and while those of you may complain about Cali - it is still FAR better off than where I am now. I cannot get over some of the Black folks I've encountered in "America's heartland." Whew.
I don't live in Ohio, but I'm state-adjacent and let me tell you I'm not surprised at the youtube videos of OH rallies.
I really feel sorry for the families of our brave service men and women fighting in two wars to see this, and to think our son and daughter have died to maintain our so called freedom in America. I guess the logic would be to support the troop over there but not in America. So is history going to repeat it self when African- Americans troops come home to be treated like WW2 VETS.
ReplyDeleteThat's just terrible and pointless.

ReplyDeleteI live in CA and I've lived in the south before, and it seems like I encountered more racism when I was younger that I have had to deal with on a personal level. However, I've always been a fighter and not afraid to speak up or defend myself, regardless of the circumstances.
Some of the stuff going on now is mild compared to what I had to deal with back then, and was more overt. After the Civil Rights Bill was passed it turned covert, but it was still there.
Palin and McCain are reviving the overt racism. It's out in the open once again where all eyes can see it and there is no denying it. The good thing about it is that never again can that lie be told that there is no discrimination against people of color, or that people of color are playing the race card when they speak out against it.
The sad thing about is that after200 years of slavery, Jim Crow, and discrimination, there are still some people with hatred in their heart towards people of color.
Hey, DC, I grew up in Oakland, and I now live in Metro Washington DC (Virginia). Although I'm in Northern Virginia, there are pockets here sporting McCain/Palin signs with pride.
ReplyDeleteLike this heifer, I call them bigots, too, because a vote for McCain is a vote for bigotry.
And Sheila should have been putting her Jimmy Choos up homegirl's ass - but she's too busy worrying about whether or not she'll continue to be the "Fly in the Buttermilk" in her precious GOP down in Rancho Cucamonga.
Anything past Los Angeles and before San Diego is full of bigots and they are imported bigots coming from the South and Midwest. While they move to California, they don't bring "New York" state of minds with them; in fact, their crackerdom starts showing when the sun hits their ass.
And DC, you are sooo right about "presumed liberals" in Ess Eff. They're progressive when you help THEM out; when it's YOUR problem, they don't want to know your ass. Anyone who survived two terms of working in Willie Brown's administration knows that, because more often than not, it was Willie burying that shyt.
christian progressive liberal:
ReplyDeleteI always thought that Orange County was supposed to be the home of the bigots.
People should not be crying over this - we need to take action!! Call up that office and demand an apology and her removal. Either they stand up to racism or not. There is no excuse. We are not responsible for educating white people. She's pulling croc tears my friends.

ReplyDeleteHey FN and everyone else:
Interesting discussion. I live in Modesto, CA and the area was traditionally conservative (meaning Waspish) however, I have seen Obama/Biden stickers in places in parts of town that Blacks weren't welcome a few years back!
I think Arnie is a good governor but cannot stand Palin and McCain. One of the things that we discussed over at Craig Nulan's blog was that conservatism seems to be more of a moniker for specific identity politics.
If true conservatives applied their rhetoric to government, there would be no bailout and no need to privitize gains and socialize debts. I am disgusted and feel that so many of them are hypocrites!
But with that said, SF is just as racist and hypocritical. I lived there for a few years and before Modesto grew up in East Oakland. SF is racist with folks who don't give a good damn about Blacks. In fact, SF is one of the few places I have ever been where in certain parts of town, Blacks have been called racist (that is the Castro). And just a couple of years back a club in the Castro was written up in the Bay Guardian for not allowing Blacks inside!
Regarding the Sheila woman who cried, Get over it sister! You are a fool who seeks acceptance with those who hate you. Hopefully you will learn from this.
Even though FN and I have views on the opposite ends of the spectrum, we both are political Independents. If more Blacks decided to vote Independently, I think we'd get farther in the political process...
Speaking of Alan Keyes.....has somebody checked on him? Its gotta be pretty painful to watch a brutha who did the exact opposite of you and he is 17 days from being exactly where you THOUGHT you would be if you just vaselined up and shined all brightly, doing exactly what da wite told you to do. Oh...its gotta be tough for Keyes and his fellow brethren to watch a guy that openly states he has Jay-Z and Nas in his Ipod, have a true black queen on his side and instead of running from his blackness, ran head first into it as he began his political career. Oh, that's gotta hurt JUST a little.
ReplyDeleteSomebody go check on him....tell him it'll be okay...pat him on the shoulders and slowly take the glock outta his hands.
It's interesting how the repugs blatantly broadcast their racism (or sexism, whatever bias they happen to have) and then play dumb when their caught. And even more interesting how o.k it is for them to be dumb.
ReplyDeleteAnon. 1:13AM, I like that phrase; "Pleasantville state of mind". May I steal it?
ReplyDelete"I am worried, not of losing the election, but of having it stolen. Frankly, I think we should have rioted in 2000. Houston, we do NOT have a problem. You are my kind of citizen.
A lot of people don't know this about the kid; but my first job out of undergrad was with a big advertising firm in Marina Del Rey. I lived in Westchester, (Not far from LAX) and then moved to Culver City. I lived in So Cal for about three years, and I loved every minute of it. So I can't put down Cali.
But that was L.A. I did hear horror stories about places like Orange County, and Bakersfield, though. I See much hasn't changed since the mid eighties. Go figure.

Miranda, every time I think of that guy, I can't help but laugh. He is one seriously deranged dude.
Granny, you are right about the OC. In fact, if you need to know how California implemented a recall of a democractically elected governor, and swapped him with Ah-nold, look no further than Orange County.
ReplyDeleteMahndisa - I cosign with you about Arnie being a decent governor, but not before he got handed his ass trying to turn into a straight up ReThug in order to deliver Cali's electoral votes to Bush back in 2004. Remember when he pissed off the law enforcement unions, the teachers' union and told the California Nurses Associations he'd "Kick their asses"?
He got his ass KICKED at the special election polls in 2005 for forcing that special election trying to get his initiatives passed and spending $70 million dollars of our taxes to hold that election that could have well waited until 2006.
That experience humbled his ass in a way I'm sure he'll never forget. He's been pretty decent ever since (socially moderate, fiscally conservative - how much is anyone's guess).
I think it would be funny if KFC sued her for "copyright infringement" or something like that (I'm a Chemist, not an attorney, so forgive me if the phrase isn't exactly correct).
ReplyDeleteSheila, honey, like someone else posted, tears are for babies. Dry 'em up and stir up some action! Leave this ridiculous group/party, and demand that the creator of this farse of a newsletter be ousted, if not beat down until SHE is in tears!
for the life of me i can not understand why you'all are up set????
ReplyDeletethey were making a joke you like like when you guy's make fun of ol'man cain and the milf!?!?!?
what's wrong with you people? you can dish it out and not take it?

Hey Anon 11:49A:
ReplyDeleteI thought about this monologue when reading your comment. It's interesting and ironic because that is how the McCain campaign sees you. They consider you the biggest joke of all. Not in the stereotype you described, but like this:
"Rednecks, crackers, hillbillies, hausfraus, shut-ins, pea-pickers - everybody that's got to jump when somebody else blows the whistle. They don't know it yet, but they're all gonna be 'Fighters for Fuller'. They're mine! I own 'em! They think like I do. Only they're even more stupid than I am, so I gotta think for 'em."
That's right that's how Sister Sarah and her father McCain sees you. The monologue came from the movie "A Face in the Crowd" which Andy Griffith played the role of Lonesome Rhodes, and what I find a very interesting character study. Why he is Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin who the McCain campaign plucked from obscurity because they appeal to the emotions of people. It's insidious when one examines very closely. I know the intent of bill with the watermelon and fried chicken because it's blatantly obvious as it's visual and not hard to understand. However, you do not understand that the campaign has preyed upon your emotions because they know that you are too stupid to understand the subtle message. They are influencing you because you are too stupid and lack the curiosity to think yourself. They are like the drug addict that will steal your heart without wrinkling your shirt. Sister Sarah and McSalty doesn't want you to think for yourself because it would mean they lose their control and influence over you. You are nothing more than a sheep to them, and they are shepherds in the sense that you are suppose to managed. Of course, you fall for it because they put into place other diversions that have nothing to do with you. And I believe that is more nefarious because it feeds into your fear of being afraid of the black guy, gays, or another other group who does not have the same influence or power like Palin and McCain, but they will attempt to deflect what they are doing and blame someone or something else as being the problem. Classic divide and conquer.
mahndisa and granny
ReplyDeleteWith all respect...
I live in California (Sacto) and I totally disagree with you both regarding Scharwzenegger...what has he really done to improve the state's economy, infrastructure or quality of life in Cali?
Regardless of his celebrity and image he still couldn't get a budget signed on-time...of course that's not all his fault but goes to his ability to govern, compromise and work with our legislature.
The problem is he's all "image" and no substance...people like him because he's an affable B actor, not a great statesman or political leader. Please remember, the whole recall thing was a coup financed by rethug assholes (like wealthy repug asshole Darryl Issa and his cabal of co-conspirators) to get Davis out (who really wasn't all that bad) and this phony in office. Crowds appeal to his box office popularity rather than any credible or substantive experience. It's ironic to me that we hear some of the same folks bitching about Obama's experience but they're also the ones in California and Alaska voting for two folks that don't even have a fraction his experience and knowledge.
Over that past few years, Scharwzenegger's whole angle has been the environment...give me a fuckin break. He's clearly proven he's not interested in giving our children, teachers, nurses, and other working middle-class folks a fair hand in the political process.
IMHO, he's just another example of a easily recognizable (false) icon in the political cult of personality. He was a racist bodybuilder...turned B actor...turned politician. Does he even have a degree? And please, don't even let me get started on his movies!

ReplyDeleteArnie is college educated. I guess all of us have different opinions of him. I think he has done a fine job and will leave it at that.
I live in Cali too (Ventura County) and its blue state. No matter the small bit that share the same crazy ass ideas as Bush and his posse, we always out vote those thugs.
ReplyDeleteHome Chick up there deserved to get plucked in her mouth by Sheila I can't believe she cried, WTF??? I'm hoping that they take Ms Fedele ass down.
What surprises me though is that this received a bunch of National media attention and not that much local attention out here. Yes, I live in Central Coast Cali, but still this was news worthy and it wasn't even in any of the papers.
btw the Terminator was a mistake and I really wish we would have done a recount ;)

ReplyDeleteHold up, you got me mixed up with mahndisa and christianprogressive. Scroll up and read what I told Field. Granny never ever voted for Arnold, nor would I ever vote for him, nor do I think that he is a good governor, or ever should have been governor. I really didn't like how he came into office of governor, nor how he has dealt with education. I totally agree with you about our governor.
mahndisa
ReplyDeleteNot trying to instigate nothing with you sister Mahndisa but your curt response indicates to me that there may not be much validity in your assertion/perception that he's done such a fine job as our gov and hey that's cool...I was just offering others here a perspective of someone in Cali that doesn't perceive Scharwzenegger as a "good govenor"...or for that matter, a good actor.
And you're correct he's does have a degree...he earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where he "graduated" through on-line courses in international marketing of fitness in 1979...and poor guy hasn't even made it to their honorary or alumni hall of fame! what a shame!
Did you know he's a close friend of a former Nazi war criminal?
I'm sure if you did a little more research on Arnold and some of his shockingly racist and neanderthal-like opinions on women, blacks and politics in general...that sparkle of celebrity become a bit duller.
Have a blessed day.
BTW, Gray Davis got a played out of office by Arnold and Bush, Cheney. Ken Lay played a part in it and it had more to do with Eron and deregulations that the Republican love so much. It was a strategic placement of one of their own.
ReplyDeleteField, I hate to have to go tin foil hat on you, but I'm going to post what I've been thinking for some time now, and praying against too. I listen to www.democracynow.org radio. Two scary stories were seriously underreported stories in the past year. One is about the posse comitatus act. Right now, Bush et all have signed to allow a combat troop from Iraq to come into America to "protect" us from disaster. This is against American law which allows no combat troops on our streets. Secondly, a while ago, Bush signed into law legislation that makes gives him martial law powers for anything HE ALONE decides is a disaster. He can send troops into the streets, suspend the constituion and elections. In my mind, these things are tied together with the McCain campaign's racism. It's not that they're trying to get those racists to vote for McCain. They know darn well they already have them. What they are trying to do is get the racists angry enough that one nut acts as an assassin. Since the country is squarely behind Obama, most people in grief and shock will welcome martial law under the guise of clamping down on that racist element. The election would be suspended. Indefinately. And we might never have one again. The country would move as a whole to a facist state in completion of the steps already outlined in the book "The End of America." The goal of these folks isn't to convince independents that Obama is dangerous. It's to convince the nutty to kill him so they can declare martial law forever. I would love to be wrong, but I don't think I am. As it is, when he wins, there is an element out there that will attempt to seceede from America. You will see the rise of militias like never before. But their time is over. They just haven't realized it yet.

Excuse me for the errors in last post, but I'm still trying to wake up. (smile) Y'all bear with me today, because Granny is still a little sleepy.
ReplyDeletemy bad granny...
ReplyDeleteI visit here from time to time and drop my opinions too. I have no problem with folks voting for who they want but I just wanted to present another perspective of someone in Cali that don't see ole' Ahnuld the Govenator that way.
I personally feel we could've done a whole lot better but it just seems in today's political realm that "image and idolatry" truly have more influence on how people vote rather than "character and content"...you know what I'm sayin'.
Have a blessed day ma dear...I'm off to the matinee showing of "W".

ReplyDeleteThis is one time in history where Americans are going to have to really stand and stick together. We're living in some perilous times.
They've gone to a new low now. I just read on Huffingtonpost where they are now sending out Robocalls in Pennsylvania using the "N" word. Not only that, you should see the crowd that came out for Obama in St. Louis and has been confirmed 100,000. It's awesome and it brought a tear to my eye.
ReplyDeleteWe've got to build a wall of protection around Obama and give the Secret Service men a hand, because I hate to think about it, but they're going to try it, but it won't work. Granny is going to repeat this once again. THIS IS ONE TIME THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY STAND AND STICK TOGETHER. Spread that word! We cannot continue to let the GOP high-jack America. We love this country too, in spite of what the Parrot with lipstick seems to think, we are all ProAmericans.
Umm what's up with all the S. Cali bashing? Mistakenly voters believed that Gov. Gray Davis was responsible for the rolling blackouts and Repugs used this misinformation to promote their guy into office. Later voters found out it was Enron that was the cause.
ReplyDeletejmee- I graduated from Ventura High, but I'm sure you probably live in Oxnard where there are more black people.
Bakersfield is full of black people and has always been. I met many people from this city in college and they were always cool and level headed. Racists are everywhere. It is true that the vibe in N. Cali is different, more of a hippie, welcoming atmosphere that is until you cross the bridge to Oakland...it reminds me of a back east city. I miss my second home, I still have a pipe dream of returning but it's just so expensive.
Is this true? Is this true? : Republicans using N-word in their Robocalls in Penn. Fields, you are in Penn, have you seen this?
ReplyDeleteHey Field,
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Morton has dug up his girl to do the same thing he did with her the first time--smear his O-ness. The day the original story broke each and every "conservative" talk show I monitor had the same line: We won't discuss McCain's alleged affair just like we won't discuss the rumor about Obama (that came from someone who subsequently failed multiple lie detector tests). My guess is that this is the "October Suprise".
Has MSM been reporting the story of the robocalls with the "N" word yet? McCain is a disgrace and him and Palin should step down from the race. His career will end in disgrace and dishoner. A maverick??? I wonder why no one has searched out blacks who served under McCain in the military. I bet they have some interesting stories to tell about their treatment under him.
ReplyDeletejust wow
ReplyDeleteHas else anyone noticed that McCain campaign tactics are to accuse Obama of what, in reality, McCain is guilty of?
ReplyDeletefrom fivethirtyeight.com...
ReplyDeleteOver in Indiana, PA and Northern Cambria, PA, volunteers fielded complaints of a massive wave of ugly robocalls both paid for by John McCain's campaign and those paid for by third parties. The third party call was interactive, and purported to be from Barack Obama himself. The call starts out reasonably, and then "Obama" asks what the listener thinks is the most important issue. Whatever the response, "Obama" then launches into a profane and crazed tirade using "n***er" and other shock language.
i heard about these calls too
ReplyDeletebut it's ok it's a black dude saying the n-word
remember it's ok for one black to call another black the n-word
I saw the President's daughter on CNN saying her mother can not be racist becasue she is married to a Hispanic. Yeah Right!
ReplyDeleteWhen you think the reasoning capabilities of these people can't get worse, they take the bar even lower. Its a bottomless pit with them.
This link was in the comments on a site that was linked her on FN.

I found it interesting reading. (It takes me forever to get through all of the links and sites put up here.)

This is the stuff of nightmares if you think about it too long. From the sound of it, this could be possible, all it would take would be a "surge" of crazies form either side.
Yes, I heard about those nasty robo calls. (What else is new?)I am still trying to see if it's true that they dropped the "N" word.
ReplyDeleteI didn't vote for the terminator - I didn't like the way Gray Davis was tossed out of office, and when I went to the State Convention the following year, I got a chance to tell Gov. Davis that I was satisfied with the job he'd done as governor.
ReplyDeleteAh-nold got handed his ass in 2005 when his initiatives went down in flames by a 2-to-1 margin. I was rather proud of helping that along.
And when I found out that Enron was goughing in Cali, that pissed me off, because it was a conspiracy to get Davis out of office, because he got Justice Department approval to allow the state's lawsuit against Enron to go forth. Enron would have had to refund people's money and get fined.
As for the SoCal bashing - all I know is when ReThugs get the State House, except for counties outside Sacramento, the nine Bay Area counties tend to vote Democrat, and in the South land, only LA votes democrat, while the rest of the counties above LA (Kern, Fresno, etc) and below (San Bernadino, Palm Springs, Ontario, etc.)always vote ReThug.

ReplyDelete"Not trying to instigate nothing with you sister Mahndisa but your curt response indicates to me that there may not be much validity in your assertion/perception that he's done such a fine job as our gov "
No. I just disagree with you and would rather leave it at that. It is clear that you have a different opinion of Arnie than I do and that we will not agree. Therefore there is no use engaging you on this issue. I don't come here to do anything else other than to share my opinion and engage when sufficiently riled up.
A lot of that stuff about him associating wiht Nazis is patently false. And in fact, he went to my Grandpas church in Oakland and my Grandpa, who is a life long democrat and liberal voted for him. They were able to work out some deal for community services etc. Just because you may disagree with his political party doesn't mean that he is a racist warmongering nazi lover!
My Grandpa's church is called Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland, CA and they have been a bastion of hope in East Oakland for years via building home for elderly and AIDS patients, starting an accredited academy where folk can get there GED's etc. Therefore because Arnie made an alliance with my Grandpa's church, I don't think he is all that bad.
And in the end, people are as irrational about politics as they are when folks talk about their family. So there is no need to banter about this further. We will clearly never agree.
