"That one"?

Did Mr. Morton refer to his O ness as "that one" in the middle of the debate? Yep, I think he did. CNN just played it again. Hey is that the same as "those people"? Just wondering out loud here.

Anyway, I was sitting here watching the debate and I had a few thoughts: First, the new president of these divided states is going to be a leftie. (Big up to us lefties) Also, I liked John McCain's tie better than the O mans. And who was the big crazy looking bald headed white guy sitting in the front row? I think he was trying to scare the O man or some shit. And is it me, or was that a cool bit of irony that a black man asked one of the first questions; forcing Mr. Morton to look a black man in the eye, since he refuses to look in the eyes of the one on stage with him? And what the hell is up with Tom Brokaw and that funny ass voice of his? I thought he retired already, why is he even back on the A-merry-can stage? Mr. Morton certainly took a shot at him; although I don't know why. It must be a continuation of the whole republicans against the main stream media thing.

But now for the serious stuff........oh wait, there really wasn't any serious stuff. Well, there were some serious questions, but there were no serious answers. (If Mr. Morton says "my friends" one more time I will scream.) Mr. Morton, of course, talked about his time in the Hotel Hanoi. Maybe not directly, but you just knew that he was riding that pony when he was doing it. And he tried to introduce a plan to help us out of this financial crises, but if you are like me, you didn't even pay attention to it. Mr. Morton's delivery is seriously fucked up.

His O ness had a couple of stumbles, too. Like when he threw his VP candidate under the bus by mentioning that Delaware is the state where credit card companies go to get out of following rules. Next time go with North or South Dakota, O man, no need to mention the state that your running mate is the senior senator from. Geez.

Still, this one goes to the O man by a landslide. Mr. Morton better start winning some of these bad boys soon, because he is running out of time. What Mr. Morton needs now is an international crisis, or a serious terrorist incident on our homeland. It is his only hope. If the economy continues to stay in the news he is more toast than a box of Strudles. But let me keep that on the hush, we don't want to give the republican cabal any ideas.

Oh well, you Obmaholics must be full of yourselves tonight. Your boy, once again, came out on top. I think he is still on stage with his lovely wife shaking hands. Poor Mr. Morton, I think he got out of Dodge after just a couple of shakes. I can't say I blame him, given his condition.....well, let me leave that alone. But hey, it was late, maybe he had tickets to a Dolly Parton show or something.

He got out of there faster than you can say Keating.

And was it me, or did he leave his O ness hanging on a handshake? Ah field leave that man alone. Those are war injuries, that man was tortured by enemy captors. Yes he was, and if there were any former North Vietnamese prison guards watching the debate tonight, I bet they were thinking that Mr. Morton finally got even with them. Because honestly, that performance he gave tonight tortured everyone that watched it.

"My friends, he wants to raise taxes.."

It's okay Mr. Morton, it's almost over.

The debate was kinda boring, but that was good, given all the slings and arrows Sarah Palin has been throwing at her Klan rally.

  2. Yes, McCain did say "that one." Toobin on CNN cannot get over it. He is so offended. Is Toobin a person of color? The way he keeps focusing on the comment makes me think he may.

I am so done with McCain and his race-baiting running mate. Can we sweep them both out to sea?

  3. Field, I thought the same thing when Obama made his comment about the state of Delaware. "Bad move." I quickly told my friend.

I also thought that McGramps disrespected Tom with that nasty sarcasm that he employed at the beginning of the debate. McGramps and his robotic pitbull with lipstick are really nuts.

In my opinion, this debate was boring. Nothing new was discussed, and nothing new was accomplished.

If I was Obama and his camp I would not be relaxed and already counting my chips. There's a long way to go until Nov. 4th. And I think that the race issue will be the deciding factor. Yes, the economy is important. But what's going to be determined if these people can push past their hidden racial beliefs to elect a man to deal with this economic crisis.

  4. Did you notice he ushered to Barack to shake the hand of his wife but still never shook the man's hand??

Oh, and did he say something about $300 billion dollars to buy mortgages? Didn't he say something about a spending freeze??

  5. I was unsure whether mainstream media would notice "that one" and was very heartened that they did.

On a much, much less serious note:

"And what the hell is up with Tom Brokaw and that funny ass voice of his? I thought he retired already, why is he even back on the A-merry-can stage?"

Am I the only one who has suspected that Tom Brokaw has been drunk at every post-8 p.m. broadcast event he has been involved in in the last fifteen years, including the last three presedential election returns?? I'm serious.

Not sure. But he does have that new A-merry-can look. Kinda mixed up.

"Did you notice he ushered to Barack to shake the hand of his wife but still never shook the man's hand??"

Yes rippa, I noticed. But I thought it was just because the O man was reaching for the wrong hand.

  15. When he used the term, "that one," I was drifting off from boredom.

    It snapped me awake.

It was just another way for McPain to reinforce his disdain for Obama, with another--"you're too far beneath me for me to give you any more respect than that"--moment.

Kinda like refusing to look at Obama during the first debate.

I think it was a blunder for McPain to leave for his next appointment so quickly.

It sent a message to the American people of a similar disdain for them.

The Obama's lingered, signed autographs, took pictures with those in attendance, and chatted with all so inclined.

Tonight it got national coverage; tomorrow it may be the lead story in ever newspaper.

It may turn out to be as big a faux pas for McCain as the one offered up by Bush No.1 when he checked his watch during a national debate.

The Obama's showed themselves to be more gracious, more approachable, and Barack more a man of the people, and (guess what?) anything but elitist.

The handshake think was a classless move. The Ole' Coot showed himself out. All in all, I think Obama took this debate. He was more polished, started off strong, hammered the economy more in the front end, was competent on the foreign policy bit... just looked more knowledgeable and presidential. The old guy is probably shaking his head wondering why he can't do anthing right.

I was all ready to just change the channel and call it a night when old McGrumps made his move. That "That One" comment was classic. Should McCain lose this election, that moment will be one of the main ones everybody looks back to in order to explain why he lost.

Obama’s closing statement, and his tough talk on Pakistan, were very effective in blunting the mudslinging, terrorist-by-association of recent days. He came out tougher on terror than McCain did, virtually daring McCain to bring up the sleazy campaign talk memes. McCain would not go there. Obama thoroughly “punked him down” on the issue and I think destroyed any effectiveness that strategy had. Not that they won’t stop doing it…

I agree with jmee about the "that one." I don't think it was racist necessarily ... just poor taste for the occasion and condescending.

Cain seems to fail to make the switch from a home crowd that's yelling for you to a debate crowd that's asked to be quiet. So he tries these ridiculous attempts at levity and because there's no audience reaction, it comes out wrong.

he also seemed to be a little disoriented when shaking hands. like he wasn't used to it or something.

i also kept watching the floor and the big blue walls, and those two moles on tom's forehead.

then i noticed how cindy was wearing blue and michelle was wearing red, and thought that was interesting to note that the shade of blue cindy was wearing and the shade of red michelle was wearing matched the floor and walls almost perfectly.

i also thought that john was a bit stiff while walking. old age.

then i said to myself, "what a NICE hairline and haircut and hair grade barack has. i want to rub his head."

then i noticed that barack wanted to bust john up a few times, but the man kept his cool.

i personally liked both baracks and johns tie. noticed how baracks was blue and johns was red? i did :D

i think the debate was great field! i don't think i missed anything important either.

When John McCain said "That One," what he REALLY wanted to say but couldn't, of course, was "That mfer." What he was thinking, however, was "That N-word." I know it, you know it, he knew it, and the audience should have known it. When he said it, unlike what Sarah Palin did when McCain offered her the VP slot, I actually blinked. I said out loud: Did he just point and refer to Senator Obama as "that one"??
    Un-@#$!@-believable!

The moment he said "that one," I immediately thought of Bill Clinton referring to Monica Lewinsky as "that woman." While both references were quite demeaning and consdescending, I thought -- I suppose because I have a vested interest in Obama's success -- that McCain was completely, completely, unequivocally, dismissing the "O" man, saying, in essence, that Obama was not even worthy of being on stage with him, let alone being recognized as a viable candidate for president of the U.S.

McCain looked old and tired and grumpy and behaved horribly throughout the so-called "debate," which, quite frankly was the most boring session so far. Obama won, because he was informed, presidential, professional, unruffled, unfettered, and able to articulate his responses without being unprofessional in the process. He also was in sharp contrast to McCain who was stumbling around the stage, walking in short, halting steps, and hunched over like the Nortre Dame replica he is.

To add to my 1:49 a.m. comment, I thought it was cheezily condescending when McCain responded to the young black man's question about the mortgage crisis, saying, that he (the young man) "probably hadn't heard of Freddie Mack and Freddied Mae before the financial crisis." I was like, OMG! Did he just diss this man by assuming that he didn't know anything about the crisis that's like, been all over the news??? I thought the comment was absolutely horrendous. Had the guy been white, I certainly do not believe McCain would have made such a derogatory comment about whether the guy knew about FM & FM. That comment, as well as the "that one" comment had racism written all over it. "That one" was a "you are an alien" comment, and you -- and your kind -- have no business here on this earth with us good WF. Period. End of Discussion. McCain's comment was a good lesson in Racist Inuendo 101.

An era that enjoyed telling jokes where people of color and gays and lesbians are the butt of the joke.

He's pure Archie Bunker and in fact, McCain is the type of candidate Archie would've held up as a "great American." Just as Archie cherished "Richard L. Nixon."

It's easy to relegate McCain to 'harmless, old man,' status which gets him off the hook. But I know a few people from his generation and they've managed to grow and change as the culture around them evolved.

I don't like John McCain and he certainly isn't "my friend."

Neither one impressed me. Obama looks presidential.

McCain looked like an old man trussed up in corsets and girdles in an effort to make him appear erect, younger, and virile.

Both men talked too much macho smack; Obama to a lessor degree. The Chinese own $500Bn in US treasuries, and the Russians own $75Bn in US treasuries, http://www.ustreas.gov/tic/mfh.txt . We are borrowing money from the Chinese Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Russian Sovereign Wealth Fund, and then we are to turn around and use that borrowed money to buy the bullets to fight the Russians and Chinese with. This is madness!!

$1Bn for Georgia, and where does that Bn come from, it is borrowed from Russia.

Neither Obama nor McCain had an answer as to how do we get out of our current economic situation; though I believe Obama has a better understanding of what caused our economic meltdown.

Where is William 'Bill' Clinton when we need him; oopz, that's right, he can't run again. His wife, Hillary, should be.

He mentioned that the economy went wrong due to Fannie and Freddie Mac which is not entirely true, but told the the guy that the probably did not know what Fannie and Freddie until a few weeks ago. Another gaffe by McCain was a plan he wants to implement that would buy all the bad mortgage and reset the prices on the home, and all this time I thought that Congress just passed that bill late last week. The bill has a plan to workout the loans and either reduce the principle or interest rate or both, but details, details.

Both candidates bored me to tears. I wish to hell that Obama would unload one or two big ones on McCain (who sounded like a dishonest used car salesperson last night with his repeated and disingenuous "My Friends"). When McCain talks about earmarks, how about bringing up his running mate's embrace for the bridge to nowhere. When McCain gets all teary about how much he supports the brave troops, how about reminding the former POW that he voted against education for the returning troops and how he voted time and against providing proper health care to our returning vets because it was too expensive.

How about reminding McCain who says he wants to do something about Global Warming, that drilling off shore creates a whole lot of methane gas which is worse than carbon monoxide in terms of producing green house gasses.

Obama may have eeked out a victory last night, but c'mon man, show some moxie. Go for the knock out.

And good catch on Obama's mishap and, as stated, throwing Biden under the bus.

  56. As a POW, McCain must know that using a term that objectifies is a military tactic that makes it easier to hate and therefore ....

McCain's housing crisis solution, to devalue people's hard earned nest eggs so they can keep their homes was stupid, and he actually said it twice.

My favorite part was watching McCain act like a two year old crying about how he wanted more time. He looked infantile.

I had to laugh at McCain's plan to buy up the bad mortgages since that's what last week's bail out plan is supposed to do. By the way, the market has fallen out of bed since the bailout , excuse me, "rescue plan" was passed last Friday and businesses are still having trouble getting credit. Maybe we need another banker's bailout -excuse me- rescue plan?

These debates really bring little to the election except to gauge who can remember what they basically think about policy and doesn't pass out under hot lights. Obama--being naturally chilled and having a brilliant -- less angry mind than Crazy John wins on this count.

But none of this lessens the fact that John McCain is a bit sociopathic, VERY angry and more than likely racist (his behavior with the African Americans who asked questions was notoriously ignorant.) The old bastard!

And of course his winged VP monkey -- if possible -- is a hellavu lot more frightening than he is. And that's what the Obama's campaign must make clear in the next four weeks. But of course they need to make this point a lot more smoother than Crazy John tries to make his ridiculous ones.

I didn't catch McCains 'that one' comment. Like Singaporeswim, I was offended when he said to to brother Oliver 'you probably never heard of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac before...' I could see the college education on Oliver 900 miles away. How dare anyone who graduated in the bottom 1% of their class (894/899) be so presumptive about anyone elses level of intellect and understanding. He probably never heard of Belmont University until this morning!

  61. Lynne from Brooklyn,

McCain's plan to buy up bad mortgages and lower the principal to the current value of the home is not exactly specifically in the bailout bill. The bailout bill contemplates buying up these bundled mortgages, some of which represent bad debt, holding those mortgages or securities backed by mortgages until they mature and then selling them... or holding until they appreciate and the market stabalizes and then selling them.

Cain's idea last night is even more revolutionary. He is saying that for people who bought too much house or bought high and are about to be foreclosed on, he would buy up those mortgages and renegotiate on the PRINcipal owed, lowering the principal to the current (lowered) market value of the home.

This sounds good in principal, but for those of us who are actually paying our mortgages on time this will mean that we will be punished by getting no break for doing right by our creditors and someone who made a bad decision, bought too much house, or possibly tapped their house for all of its equity will get to live in the house next door for pennies on the dollar of what the problem free homeowner is paying for a similar house.

It's odd that it came from him, because that's closer to socialism than the current Democrat policy.

Now truthfully, I would admit that the Democrats are proposing something similar to allow bankruptcy judges to lower the principal amount due in bankruptcies to allow filers to afford their homes by paying back less. But as one of the ones trying to pay his mortgage on time, I don't agree with this approach either. It's kinda socialist without giving the responsible homeowner a benefit and all of the burden.

  62. As far as the McCain's getting the hell out of Dodge at the end of the debate, I just assumed it was because it was way past Johnny's bedtime.

I thought the Obamas sticking around to talk to people and sign autographs and take pictures was very cool and will certainly play well with the public, but you just KNOW the McCain campaign will try to spin it as them acting like "celebrities."

Also, I hope McCain's "that one" comment becomes the equivalent of Howard Dean's "AAAAAARRRGHHHHHHH!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  63. Ezmun,
I agree with you about people paying their mortgages getting the burden, and what is also a frightening aspect of this is that all property values would fall under his idea so homeowners who have depended on the equity in their homes would potentially lose even more in this crisis.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're
    "exotic, different."

    * Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American
    story.

    * If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

    * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

    * Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well
    grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become
the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a
voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend
12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a
State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people,
become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human
Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate
representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131
bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public
Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real
    leadership experience.

    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city
council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000
people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000
people, then you're qualified to become the country's second
    highest ranking executive.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while
raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches,
    you're not a real Christian.

    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left
your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month,
    you're a Christian.

    * If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education,
including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the
    fiber of society.

    * If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with
no other option in sex education in your state's school system
while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very
    responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position
in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner
city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's
    values don't represent America's.

    * If your husband is nicknamed "First Dude," with at least one DWI
conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote
until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the
secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely
    admirable.

    OK, much clearer now.

The That One comment was interesting. I know people are making it racist but that's just a good subliminal tactic by never saying your opponents name or looking at them. It makes the audience believe he's not worth it.

It's just when you still play records with a phonograph in your study people see you as a cranky old man.

McCain didn't shake Obama hands because he knew he lost.

In basketball after the game, the teams shake hands. However, if you really spank that ass they don't want to shake it.

This is why John McCain would not shake Barack's hand! Simple as that!. He got beat!

Field, why is no one commenting on the fact that he has been in office 26 years and stated that finding and killing Bin Laden and fixing social security is easy...but has yet to propose these answers on the floor. It's like being a doctor for 3 decades, watching people die of cancer, and then letting the world know you had the cure all along. So basically he is threatening us. He has all the answers, but won't tell us unless we vote for him?

I'd maybe think that the "that one" comment did not have overtones of racism if:

    1) The fannie/freddie comment

    2) The fact that when he was talking to Oliver, it was about bad loans, but referred to Alan (the previous white questioner) when he was talking about keeping people in their homes.

    3) The fact that he turned his back on the AA lady who asked the question on energy the entire time he was responding

You know Field, they do make those stripper sock/thong things...

We've heard this before, haven't we? This is Richard Nixon all over again. He knew how to achieve "peace with honor" in Vietnam, but it was a secret and he wasn't going to tell us until after the 1972 election. Turns out his plan was to Just Leave.

Ok Field you noticed everything but the fact that McCain had the audacity to state to Oliver Clark -the Black man who posed the question about the 'bail out' that was corrected by McCain as a 'rescue package' - that Oliver probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this.

Ok, it was bad enough that he corrected the brotha on LIVE TV about bail out vs rescue but then to go on and say that Oliver had probably NEVER heard about Fannie or Freddie before was the ultimate insult.

Now, Oliver is speaking and for the record he has a Bachelor degree in Political Science from Tennessee State, and a Master degree in Legal Studies from Southern Illinois University. He has spent a few years in law school, and is currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration from the University of Memphis.

Now that was the most insultive thing to me - as to McCain saying "That One" all I have to say is thanks for the new slogan to carry us to victory for I am definitely voting on "That One" - And I have a new T-shirt.

p.s. - If you watch the debates ending(McCain and Obama shook hands right before they were asked by Brokaw to get the hell out of the way of his teleprompter. And Michelle and the pill lady shook hands before they joined their husbands on stage. Not that I like McCain and the pill lady but I am fair and balance in my blogging.
