If he goes to confession, then can he speak?

"Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame, Wake up the echoes cheering her name, Send a volley cheer on high, Shake down the thunder from the sky! What though the odds be great or small, Old Notre Dame will win over all, "

You will excuse me if I don't feel like cheering for "Old Notre Dame" right about now.

So let me get this straight: Quite a few folks in the Notre Dame family are upset because his O ness is scheduled to speak at their May 17th commencement. The faithful are appalled that the institution would dare offer an invitation to a man who is pro choice, pro stem cell research and pro civil unions. The nerve! How dare he think he can speak at their school with those positions. Who cares if he is the president of these divided states, the man is a sinner not a saint.
The Bishop of South Bend himself, John D'Arcy, said he will not be attending. And they have launched anti Obama websites and garnished over 157,000 signatures of angry alumni who object to his O ness stepping foot on the hallowed grounds under the golden dome.

But I want to go back in a little time machine with my Catholic brothers and sisters. Come on with me now, and let's put ourselves at the very same university while another president speaks. See him? That's George W. Bush; a man who supports the death penalty and who started a war that cost over [$]4,000 A-merry-cans and a countless number of Iraqis their lives.

See what he is doing? He is giving the commencement address, and it is May, 2001. Do you hear the protest over his visit? Is the Bishop there to welcome him? Yep, that would be the Bishop sitting in the front row. So why the vitriol over his O ness? Wasn't Jimmy Carter pro choice? Wasn't he allowed to speak under the golden dome in 1977? Of course he was, but this is different.....right Catholics?
If many of you have your way Barack Hussein Obama will not be the ninth A-merry-can president to receive an Honorary degree from your fine institution. So maybe you should ask yourselves: what would the Pope do? Hey, I just saw him in African with a bunch of Africans (please don't get me started)running behind his popemobile, so I really don't think he would mind if a half African was allowed to speak at his largest institution of higher learning in North America.
Oh well, good luck president Obama. I know you are the president of all A-merry-cans, but I don't think all of us believe it. To some, you are still a sinner. I don't care of you can walk on water.

  1. Oh this was RIGHT on time. I'm still trying to find the words for a post of my own on Pope Benedict's back asswards views on Africa, but I'm going to wait until my rage subsides.

These people are so fucking self-righteous it hurts. I'm a Christian with no denomination but I'm coming from an episcopalian background. There is not hate here except just indignation and disdain for a group of people who have not come out of the middle ages.

Many Christians are accused of hypocrisy and it's for this VERY reason. Why would you let Bush speak at your commencement, but take issue with Obama? Why? So he is for stem cell research and pro choice. Bush is a murderer and a charlatan. Where were the morals when they let that liar give his speech?

I am tired of the Catholic Church and I am tired of their foolish principles. They are so far removed from the VERY ideas Jesus had for us, that they feel entitled to tell US how WE should live OUR lives.

Yeah, this coming from the VERY same group of people who brought us the Inquisition and the CADAVER SYNOD?????

Look up the CADAVER SYNOD people. The Catholic Church is a joke. I mean, Rodrigo BORGIA anyone????

  2. The official university of the church that punishes their child molesting priests, by moving them to different parishes and sweeping their crimes under the rug is giving the O-man a hard time about speaking there. Because why? He's pro-choice? Meanwhile, the fratboy, who through his official policies, managed to kill thousands of post-birth children, is welcomed with open arms.

    Nice.

Isn't 97 percent of the senior class there in approval of the O-man or something?

This is why I'm an Atheist (Sorry Granny SFT, I still love ya though.)

These brands of Christian just have a funny sense of outrage.

They get outraged over the O-mans desire to give health care to children?

Over his desire to give hope to those in need of healing through embryonic cells that they have no problem with being made in the first place?

Over his desire to end torture and close GTMO?

Over the O-mans desire to end unfair sexist work practices?

Outrage over Obama's desire to bring jobs to the out of work?

Outraged over the desire to bring education to the uneducated?

Maybe he's better off not associating with them at all, now that I think about it.

I figure he will get to speak there if he still wants to. The Catholic population is diverse with regard to politics. Just for the record, I'm atheist. I tried to join a Catholic Church once and they really pushed equality, and this was in a small town in the south. I know all about Martin Luther and the WW2 problems, but I think overall they're better than most. Good neighbors and good co-workers.

I want to know what was the purpose of asking the President to give the commencement in the first place. It is not a secret that he is pro-choice and he supports of embryolic stem cell research prior to him being elected. Does the university president know that there is gambling going on at casinos? Now from out of the blue, there is an epiphany. This is a faux paus PR on the school because an invitation to speech is sent out a few months in advance. Oh by the way, Jimmy Carter is not pro-choice and I have to check to see if he is against the death penalty. JC did not run on a pro-choice platform when he was a presidential candidate.

Here, we have the problem of those within the hollowed halls of Notre Dame not wanting to acknowledge the fact that a nigger....yes, a "nigger"....is running their country. Conservatives are having this problem too (just replace "marxist" for "nigger" and see how it all fits).

How dare this nigger show his face at our university after sullying the clean history of the United States with his presence in the Oval Office!!

That's the underlying truth. It's a grave insult, not only to Obama (who might handle it more smoothly than I ever would), but to the office of the President of the United States.

Being the passive aggressive bastard I am, I would devote a fair portion of the IRS to finding out just how the alumni manages to contribute all that money to ND. And if it gets any federal funding? It might be seeing less and less of that from now on. :D

  16. Mack:

What you stated is about right, that's just what they're thinking. Strange how they kicked Cynthia McKinney out the White House for being too outspoken. They went so far as to set her up to get her up out of the Congress. But Michelle Bachmann's speeches and comments have been outright treasonous, and no one in Congress has reigned her in. I guess she is not black or brown enough. Shouldn't the FBI be paying her a visit?(being sarcastic and nice nasty here).

Not to mention, some of the GOP folks are pitching a fit because the President and his wife are spending their own money to redecorate the White House, instead of the using the White House funds. Some of the complaints being made about that are a bit too much. One woman even went so far as to make a racist statement about what "those people" decorate their houses with...wooden spoons...

Yup, they've been getting real nasty, lately, trying to press folk's buttons. Sometimes people should leave those buttons alone, because they might not get what they're expecting to get by doing it. It might just backfire in their face, but well, they're asking for it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. First, I've got to applaud the University for its progressive stance: extending the invitation to President Obama, despite his sinful ways.

Second, I've got to applaud them, at least for now, for sticking to their guns--pointing them inward toward their alumni, past and present, that oppose the president's invitation--and not rescinding the invitation.

And it's time that Christians, especially those in leadership positions, such as Bishop John D'Arcy of South Bend, began to emulate both the life and the teachings of Jesus.

    Jesus socialized with sinners.

Questioned as to why he associated with publicans (a hated group) and sinners, he responded thusly:
"They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Bishop D'Arcy, by virtue of his title, must be a righteous man. And as such Jesus would have perhaps not ministered to him for that reason.

And given the Bishop's position on President Obama's invitation to be commencement speaker at Notre Dame, no doubt Bishop D'Arcy would have shunned Jesus because of Jesus' shameful associations.

The church won't grow by preaching love and salvation, and acting contrary to that teaching and Jesus' example.

Here's what I think: many of the University's alumni, and some of those in leadership positions are opposing Obama's invitation because of political reasons--they're die-hard republicans and are still chafing that their man didn't win the election.

They use Obama's stance on abortion, stem cell research, and civil unions, as a pretext to challenge his fitness to speak before their ultra-conservative faculty and student body.

Forget the fact that a majority of voting Americans didn't see these supposed short-comings as
    disqualifiers.

We all know that, in large measure, it's President Obama's color, and that he's a liberal, fresh from the campaign trail, still basking in the bright sun of his victory that's causing certain republicans' brain cells to misfire, compelling them to behave erratically, immaturely, and downright nasty.

I say we should cut'em some slack: they've been out in the sun too long.

    Aha!

The hand behind this is exposed!

Neut the philanderer just converted to Catholicism!

When Catholic University announced in January 2005 that Newt Gingrich would deliver a speech on campus, a group of students rose up in protest, accusing the twice-divorced, admitted philanderer of violating the Catholic values that their school was founded upon. Four years later, just last week, on March 24, Gingrich blasted another hallowed institution of Catholic higher learning: “It is sad to see Notre Dame invite President Obama to give the commencement address since his policies are so anti-Catholic values,” Gingrich wrote on Twitter of the president’s scheduled May address. What happened?
During the George W. Bush era, Gingrich rose quietly from the ruins of his failed crusade to impeach President Bill Clinton, trying to transform himself from a Republican pariah into a voice of conscience for the badly demoralized conservative movement. The religious-right elements that helped orchestrate Gingrich’s downfall as Speaker of the House became the catalyst for his resurrection and may now propel him into contention for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012. But winning them over has not been easy. Before earning a seat at their table, Gingrich has had to confess his darkest sins and beg for redemption, first on the radio show of his former nemesis, James Dobson, and then before a priest at St. Joseph’s Rectory, a Catholic church on Capitol Hill.
“He [Gingrich] has gone through a change in his life through his third marriage and he has decided to settle down....You’re never too old to settle down.”
Indeed, on Sunday, March 29, Gingrich converted to Catholicism, the faith of his third wife, Calista Bisek. Though the ceremony was announced without fanfare, leading Catholic conservatives like Deal Hudson are brimming with excitement. Hudson was the most important Catholic political adviser to President Bush and Karl Rove, founder of the seminal Catholic journal, Crisis magazine, and self-described “theocon.” He contends that Gingrich’s conversion represents more than a concession to his wife; it signals a dramatic break from the past, both personally and politically.
“From a Catholic point of view,” Hudson told me, “Newt’s sins no longer exist—they’ve been absolved. He’s made a fresh start in life. So Newt will continue to sin and confess but there aren’t going to be a lot of Catholics who will hold that against him. They understand why being a Catholic makes a difference.”
Hudson said that while many of his friends are “extremely close” to Gingrich, he and the former Speaker of the House are just friendly acquaintances. But Hudson explains that he relates to Gingrich’s experience on a deeply personal level. Like Gingrich, he is a convert and a thrice-married sinner engaged continually in confession and absolution.
Raised as a Southern Baptist, Hudson converted to Catholicism at age 34 after becoming enraptured by the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. Upon receiving communion, Hudson received an annulment from his first wife, then divorced his second wife four years later. “It’s not unusual to do that in this day and age,” Hudson reflected, “so that sort of angle that Chris Buckley is taking to make fun of Newt is unfair.”
After entering the church, Hudson worked his way up the rungs of academia, eventually earning tenure as a philosophy professor at Fordham University. He was a charismatic figure in the classroom, casting a spell over his students with engaging lectures on natural law. But Hudson was not without his weaknesses. In 1994, after a night of drinking games at a West Village pub, during which he allegedly made out with two female students and took “body shots” with them, Hudson brought an extremely intoxicated 18-year-old student named Cara Poppas back to his office and compelled her to perform oral sex on him. When the student told school authorities about the incident, Hudson promptly resigned and moved to Washington to edit Crisis. Two years later, Hudson settled a sexual-harassment lawsuit out of court with Poppas for $30,000. The incident remained unknown to everyone except Poppas and Hudson’s closest confidants....

"The church won't grow by preaching love and salvation, and acting contrary to that teaching and Jesus' example."

Amen! I'd like to add to that comment. Jesus preached against the Pharisees and Saduccee because they had gotten so self-righteous and into living by many man-made doctrines. Folks need to remember that, "We all sin and fall short of the glory of the Lord."

The Pharisees and Saducees were religion men, but they had carried it a bit too far and were like some of these folks who call themselves Christians today. They leave out the "love thy neighbor as thyself. Some of them are meaner than a junk yard dog. They treat their fellow-man with contempt and disdain and like they're better than them. Didn't but one man come into world perfect and holy and that was Jesus. The rest are nothing but filthy rags saved by his grace, and if wasn't for the grace of God...

Jesus asked them a question once, "For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?" He was referring to those self-righteous folks the Pharisees and Saducees. He, also, told them, " Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."
Although, some folks don't seem to get that part. Nor do they get this part, "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

Jesus said let your light shine before all men. Some folk's light needs to be changed because it is dim or gone out completely. What people need to learn is yeah someone might be sinner, but later on the down the road they might change and give their life to Christ. And that same person, could be the one God put on earth to pray for you later on or be a blessing to you.

Look at Paul, he was hunting down and persecuting Christians, but look what happen on his way to Damascus. Take TJWash, for example, he told he was an Athiest, but that he loved me. I love him too and I meant that. Who knows, Granny might get down sick one day in her bed, and TJWash, might be the very person that God saves and sends to pray for Granny to rise up out of that sick bed.

Remember that story I told once on here about the man who used to be KKK and burned the Preacher's house down and the preacher kept praying for him. Look how that turned out that same man wind up giving his life to Christ, and was who God used to bring the preacher's daughter to Christ. That was no fictional story, that really happened. It can be verified. I'm not telling fiction stories on here, they can be verified.

BTW, if I made any errors typing my comment, I'm in a hurry and have something to do.

But then on the other hand, their should be a PETITION sent to the WHITE HOUSE, asking the PRESIDENT to decline the INVITATION of speaking at NOTRE DAME, is it mandatory that he surround's himself with people that oppose him as the PRESIDENT? he has better thing's to do, he should have a NEW'S CONFERENCE and decline their invitation openly! this would be an open slap in their face!
