Some of you may or may not of heard of the allegations of rape against Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. (Big Ben)The woman claims, in a civil suit, that Big Ben raped her some time last year, and that her employer, Harrah's of Lake Tahoe, covered it up because Big Ben is friends with the company's president.
Of course Roethlisberger has vehemently denied the charges and he has vowed to defend his name and his honor.
Now here is the thing: I love sports, and I pretty much have ESPN on one of the televisions in my house 24/7. But I didn't hear about this story on ESPN. In fact, I am pretty sure no one has ever heard this story on ESPN, because they have never carried the story. Not one mention of the alleged rape charges against the quarterback of the Super Bowl championship team.
So, you have to ask yourself, why is that? When Kobe Bryant allegedly raped that young lady in Colorado it was wall to wall coverage until his accuser failed to follow through, and the charges were dropped. So why no mention of the alleged rape and civil suit forthcoming against Big Ben? Oh ohh, here comes field with the racial angle. Nope, there won't be a racial angle to this one. (Although, do you think that if this was "5" and not Big Ben we wouldn't be talking about it at water coolers from California to Maine? Not to mention the 24 hour cable channels who would be giving us constant McNabb chatter) This is about the press and the way that news and information is controlled in this country. They decide what becomes a big story and what doesn't. And the folks in Bristol are doing their best to make sure that this does not become a big story.
Why? Well it depends on which story you believe . Apparently Big Ben is really close to the folks over at ESPN, and he even has a reality show in the works with ABC which owns; you guessed it; ESPN.
Now this story might or might not be true. The woman could be making the whole thing up. But even if she did, an allegation has been made. Shouldn't it be reported and we, the public, decide how valid we think the story is? Hey, the story is out there, a lawsuit has been filed. Since when is it a news organizations job to decide the validity of a story and not run with it because they want to protect some jock who they happen to like?
Hey, all I am saying is that if this was Pac Man Jones or Michael Vick.....oh, sorry, I promised that I wouldn't play the race card tonight. *putting them down and going off to bed*
Nothing brings a sense of urgency like a black penis invading a white vagina.....
ReplyDeleteField you are on it. It is my fondest hope that if it is true more women decide to sue his butt too.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, you said it!
ReplyDeleteI'd really hate to think that the woman accusing him of this is not White. Because if she isn't (White) then a troubling cover-up becomes even more troubling.
ReplyDeleteI saw that on ESPN too. Interesting isn't it.
ReplyDeleteField,
ReplyDeleteThis is not a story that sells when it comes to sex. It must have a racial angle to it before the story really has legs. The public would not pay much attention to it unless the woman was Black.
Besides, the man has a career with ESPN coming up. And I am sick and tired of women taking men to bed and then either suing them for rape or worse blowing their heads off. It's really becoming a dangerous world for men.
I first saw this story on Foxsports.com. I went to ESPN and tried to find the story and got nothing.

Here's a great article

This is the first I'm hearing of this. You're right, this isn't getting much pub. We revisited Pacman Jones a week or so ago when ESPN released the exclusive strip club "making it rain" footage. But not a peep about Ben; on some "he raped me" shit at that?
ReplyDeleteI'm now skeptical about it because of the civil suit. Seems like this should be a full fledged criminal case, no? Hell, maybe the chick got mad because Ben wasn't "big" enough and didn't measure up...oops, I meant live up to the hype and she decided to go after his money.
The woman is Andrea McNulty and she is White, and since there isn't some big black buck or skank Black stripper, this story of a White boy behaving nastily will get short shrift from the media=-becuase white men are innocent and walking saints until proven otherwise.

Hmm, perhaps, but for male athletes at least, the sports industry is an unfaltering ally.
Just look at how the Steve McNair story was spun; by the news coverage, one would've never known that McNair's "girlfriend" was actually his co-adulterer because reports rarely if ever mentioned that dude was cheating on his wife.
And this year's NBA finals was like a weeks-long, non-stop Kobe Bryant commercial, the league trying to redeem his image as a decent family man and once and for all counteract the mar of that rape allegation from years ago.
And I still don't know what to make of the whole Isiah Thomas sexual harassment fiasco from a few years back ... Madison Square Garden put so much spin on that story I don't know what to believe.
Not saying I think Ben is guilty or anything; just saying you can't always believe the hype (or lack thereof) when it comes to sports-related news stories.

Yeah dat damn ol'white privilege. How come dat white privilege didn't keep the story from being reported on many other sites like si.com or foxsports.com ?
I guess they are too busy trying to prove to the world what animals us black people are. Why in the world would they drag a good white man's name through the mud just because he was accused of rape...like they did with Kobe. White privilege is right. He was born the right color so he gets a pass. These white folks that say racism does not exist must hear an echo every time they say it because their heads are definately up their asses.
ReplyDeleteOh Lawd, my hardheaded chilluns. Granny kept trying to tell y'all that the same thing goes on in our neighborhoods that they like to highlight so much, goes on in theirs but they try to keep their hush, hush. I guess, y'all will listen to me one day. *sigh* and Smh!

ReplyDeleteProbably because they couldn't find any dirt on him yet to tarnish his name.
I knew about the rape last week or week before last. I put a link to the story about it.
When I heard about this story on a Detroit sports radio station the day that it broke, the hosts were rightfully dogging ESPN for not reporting it. Whether or not the allegations against Big Ben are true, a lawsuit was filed so ESPN should have been all over it. So much for being the worldwide leader in sports.
ReplyDeleteGranny sitting twiddling her thumbs, patting her feet, and wondering why none of the trolls are preaching their guilty before proven innocent and television is not blasting his face over and over and over on television having one of their good old fashion court of public opinions trials proving him guilty before proving him innocent. Whew! That took a lot out of me. I guess I'll go back to my corner and chill.
ReplyDeleteAnd why did the Duke Lacrosse rape accusation get worldwide attention? The only difference between that and dozens of similar events that year is that the other couple dozen or so actually happened. And the few dozen or so gang rapes were black on white, black on black, or white on white. The Duke Lacrose thing only made a big splash cause it was allegedly committed by white men against a black woman. If they were black guys not one of these baffoons who were going crazy about it would have cared. After all why aren't black folks going crazy with anger about this? The victim is 8, gangraped, her family and community has turned AGAINST her. 8 year old black girl blamed BY HER OWN FAMILY for being gangraped. Where the outraged black folks??? This happened in AmeriKKKa!!!!!!!! http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Family+disowns+girl+after+gang+rape/1828392/story.html
ReplyDeleteI have to give ESPN a pass on this one. My BS meter spiked up to red when I heard this former Harrah's employee never filed a police report (something the girl in the Kobe case DID) and has a history of depression and other problems.

Then he basically had to pay a $147 million fine for dogfighting. Then Michelle said Akon did a "rape" video. In Trindad dancing with a 14 year old grinding is considered rape. She was in a bar and Akon didn't know her age.He lost his sponsorship for a phone company. He help employ a lot of people in his homeland of Senegal.Laura Ingraham and Malkin thought it was funny that he lost that account.

I don't give a shit about football specifically or about entertainers in general. To me, athletes and actors are the same thing, and 99% of them are idiots.
ReplyDeleteSo I didn't know anything about this until seeing it on this blog. My first reaction was: "Wow, Jews play professional football?" Then I looked it up, and Ben Reothlsberger is not Jewish. Probably just as well, because if he was Jewish then the conspiracy theories would really be in full swing.

ReplyDeleteI mean a woman reports a rape one year after the fact?. I am not buying it. And I can understand why ESPN has not run with this story.
Why white athletes are truly involved in this type of behavior, many sports media run with it. Can you say, "Mark Chimura(sic)"?
In the end, this is nothing more than a tramp looking for a meal ticket.
Honestly, athletes (active and retired) need to really steer clear of thes low-level customer service types (waitresses [O.J. and McNair], concierges [Kobe] and so-called executive hostesses [Big Ben]). It is just not worth the headache.

"Three words: white male privilege," because white men have always been more than willing from time immemorial to push their own women under the bus when it comes to "upstanding" white men who are to be protected.
A white woman only gets protected when the accuser is a man of color, or if it is an intraracial situation (white on white), and her behavior is "above reproach."
With the allegations like these making things seem iffy, he will get the benefit of the doubt. Thus, no commentary from the usual suspects who would have otherwise been on a rampage to protect her.
Based on this story maybe thoe white folks were right in tryin to keep those black youths out of the pool

ReplyDeleteWhy dont you just copy and paste the NYTIMES article from friday it look similar to the one you are blogging about.
does anyone know george w bush was also accused of rape during his presidency?? yepp thats right, the allegations never recieved any coverage that i know of though. i remember reading it first in an online article..that a woman was accusing bush of rape and taking it to court. all i remember thinking was, "damn i wonder whats going to happen to that woman." i forgot about it soon after and didnt hear anything else about it for a while. then one day, months after, i was flipping through my local newspaper when an article on page 13 or 14 caught my attention. this article was so small you could miss it easily. it said that a woman who had made allegations of rape against bush was found dead in her home, in what police called an apparent "suicide."
ReplyDeletefunny, the president of the US gets accused of rape and most people dont even hear about it. yet if it had happened to obama, or even any other democrat, it would be all over the news. like the clinton and lewinsky affair. ill actually google it out of curiousity to see if anything comes up at all...
yep just googled, and you get quite a few results. heres a link to an article, i dont know how credible the sight is but it gives you some info:

her name is Margie Schoedinger, and i just googled her too. wikipedia says she was african-american aswell

RIP Vernon Forrest.Another day, another black on black murder.
ReplyDeleteYes ESPN does play favorites. But its not a black or white thing.
Pac-man and Vick have a long history of f*cking up.
Ben does not.
They have had charges filed against them and both have plead guilty.
Ben has never been charged or plead to anything.
If your going to make dishonest comparisons i'll take your Kobe and Vick and raise you the Duke Lacrosse rape hoax and Mark Chmura .
If Ben Roethlisberger was large dark skinned man would this news have made the lead story on FOX?
ReplyDeleteAnswer Yes, I'm White and to be honest I really think the Ben case would have had non-stop play if it had a racial bent to it. Ever since the OJ trial the media has learned that ratings can be made from pushing this racial tension. No, Blacks,Hispanics involved nothing to report on.
Obviously Ben gets the benefit of the doubt because he's white. I was watching the NFL network and the white commentator says - well this doesn't sound like Ben. I've never heard that when Black guys are accused of anything, and this is a rape charge!
ReplyDeleteThe worst part of this is that you've got Black commentators on these sports channels and they won't say a word about the obvious bias that goes on. These negroes are like slaves on a plantation, scared to speak because massa might take back the check!
Not to underestimate the fact that this story is being under- reported, but I think that at least some of the reason behind the virtual silence is the fact that the allegation is wack as fuck.
ReplyDeleteHow do you accuse someone of raping you a year ago and blame your employer for covering the story up? This presumably adult female was raped a year ago by a high profile NFL quarterback and her employer managed to single handedly supress the story?
Bullshit.
If Ben were black this story would have more traction due to the fact that mainstream white America has a fear of the black penis, but I don't know that anyone can come out with a rape allegation a year after the fact and be taken seriously.
Ben represents a dollar amount to a lot of high powered people so he will be vindicated. Kobe Bryant got off in part because of the financial interest that he held for high powered individuals as well.
Kobe Bryant's accuser did not just simply fail to follow through, Kobe's masters gave that chick the business. They put her sorid sexual past on display, bringign shame to her and her family. There was even a Russian hitman who took the fall for conspiring to kill Bryant's accuser. Shit like that is enough to make the average person shut the fuck up.
Bottom line, this case has no traction even with DNA evidence. Ben's masters will kill the story in its cradle.
John Conyers (D-Mich.) said this -
ReplyDelete“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers.

The ESPN radio guys, specifically Colin Cowherd (yes his real name I think), talked about the decision not to run the story. Their defense was that it was not a criminal complaint but a civil one. Thus it was he said/she said, as opposed to an indictment based on evidence. Not sure I buy that completely. It should not have kept them from reporting the fact of the accusation.

You're right, of course, but as a white woman commenting on this blog I've been criticized for considering Black and white women together with regard to women's rights. And as I understand the (often well-deserved) acrimony toward white liberal feminists by feminists of color, I just avoid those comparisons.
ESPN simply plays favorites. It's that simple. I don't believe this is about race. I'm more inclined to go with your reality show angle. When Ohio Sate was having their issues with Clarett, ESPN kept that story going on and on and on doing everything in their powers to destroy Ohio State. In the meantime, they gave plenty of air time to Clarett. And even though Clarett trashed OSU, Tressel (white male though he is) tried to help Mo. ESPN made no mention of this, however. That was not race motivated, it's just ESPN being ESPN, trying to dictate what we the dumb sports viewing public swallow. Now that they've signed a deal with the SEC watch how many negative stories come out about those schools. ESPN is a joke. I suppose this could be about race, but I suspect it's more than that, as odd as that sounds.

I have to comment about the child getting her hair comb.
ReplyDeleteAs child, the one thing I hated was getting my hair comb. I had what us black folks refer to as a good grade of hair. It was long and thick. The one thing, I hated the most was getting my hair combed when I was a child. I would run and hide to keep from getting my hair combed. Although, it didn't do me any good because it would combed every day regardless and I tried every trick in the book.
Back then, a lot of kinfolks stayed close together in neighborhoods. I never will forget one day one of my aunts was gonna comb my hair. I ran over to one of my other aunts house and hid under my cousin's bed. Well, my male cousin snitched. My aunt pulled me out from under the bed and dragged me back home kicking and screaming. If you didn't know what was going on, you would have thought she was the villian and trying to do bodily harm to me. Such was not the case though.
When she got through combing my hair, which was an awful ordeal to me, because I was, also, what they called tender-headed. So, believe it or not, anonymous, it hurt to get my hair combed. Because my hair was thick but yet fine and a little curly. It would tangle up easy.
I was upset at my male cousin for telling my aunt where I was hiding at and the fact that I had to go through the pain of getting my hair combed. When I got to go back outside to play, the first thing I did was went and found my cousin and socked him real good in the eye. I gave him a shiner too. I got punished for socking him in his eye too, sure did. However, that was one time it was well worth it to me.
Now, I shared that story with you to say this, some children are just tender-headed like I was and if their hair is thick, whenever, they get their hair combed their scalp is just sensitive to it. Some people don't know how to comb a tenderheaded child's hair. With them you have to start at the ends and work your way back to the root at the scalp. People that don't know this usually start from the scalp and work their way to the ends and that's what makes it hurt because it pulls the hair.
maybe her head is tender granny but that doesn't seem to me a good reason to cause your child to scream like that and then to scream at the CHILD "screw your nappy ugly hair"?
ReplyDeleteas a parent i don't believe that to ba a positive infulance on your child......again i can see how a lot of black kids end up the way they are damn!

what about the screaming "screw your nappy ugly hair", didn'tanswer that did you? huh?
ReplyDeleteBTW, no you don't know why black kids wind up like they do, and you probably will never know because you've put up a mental block full of pre-assumptions that prevents you from learning the reasons why.
ReplyDeleteIt's not always the parent's fault. A bad kid can come from a good home, raised properly, with responsible parents, and still turn out bad. I've witnessed that happen in my lifetime so many times I can't count them. It doesn't matter what color the child is either. After a certain point, they have a mind of their own.
hey, granny back in the day it was ok to yell at your child and call them names but modern parents know other wise...here's another black mother's take IF you dare watch it!

ReplyDelete"what about the screaming "screw your nappy ugly hair", didn'tanswer that did you? huh?"
Is that supposed to be the "I gotcha granny" question? Why are you angry with me, I've done nothing to you?
However, it is not a big deal to answer that question and I will and can answer it for you.
No, I don't think that is the way to talk to any child. I'm did not make up any excuses for the mother either did I. I only was trying to share some knowledge with you from my experience on how some black children act when they get their hair combed.
I don't know how long you've been posting on this blog, but mostly everyone on here knows that children are my heart. I can't stand child abuser in no shape, form, or fashion. That is the quickest way to get on my bad side.
BTW, if you talk trash about black people, you should be able to take black people talking trash about white people.
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, it was not okay to call your children names. I don't know where you get that from. If you would have did that back in the day, people would have looked at you like you got two holes in your head, and spoke up. However, back in the day people have more morals and respect for others than they do now. People actually cared and had compassion for others. Nowadays, those type to feelings for others and morals has waxed cold.

ReplyDeleteLa Ignorant "Your personal resentment towards black women have you hauling this black mother in front the judge, all because of your own stupidity or cultural ignorance. You bias shit eating mollusk."
ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with culture, it's plain child abuse. Too bad you lack the parental skills to know the difference.
Field,
ReplyDeleteI remember 10 years ago when Bryant Gumbel's sports show reported that some 15 percent of all NBA players were registered sex offenders. I simply had no clue. I also remember that Tennessee-St. Louis Super Bowl when 25 players were convicted felons. I really doubt that those stats have improved over the years. I think that, when it comes to professional athletes, monied interests play a key factor in our not knowing all these players' criminality. I mean, most sports fans still don't know that Jerome Bettis went through a criminal rape investigation three years ago. They just don't want us to know exactly how dirty our sports "heroes" are.
FN you did the right thing calling out ESPN's lack of consistent coverage of Big Ben.
ReplyDelete"what about the screaming "screw your nappy ugly hair", didn'tanswer that did you? huh?""
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 8:14 and 8:42 (I'm sure you're the same coward). What was your big reaction when Imus called those black females "nappy headed hos"? I hope you equally appalled. Please answer, I'm curious.
La Inc "Anonymous 8:14 and 8:42 (I'm sure you're the same coward). What was your big reaction when Imus called those black females "nappy headed hos"? I hope you equally appalled. Please answer, I'm curious."
ReplyDeleteWrong again La Omniscient one, we are not the same person. But why do you care what a coward like me or the other Anon think about what Imus said? If you were appalled, then tell me why weren't you appalled at the black rap and hip hop that had been saying those words and worse for years waaay before Imus said anything?
Why aren't you appalled at the mother in the video who called her daughter that and spoke even worse profanity?
ESPN got shamed into giving the bare basic coverage to Big Ben's lawsuit...but had no problem in covering a similar situation with Shannon Brown of the Lakers..DURING the playoffs, or giving us breaking news on Randy Moss's dust up with the chick in FL that was NOT a criminal charge, right before the Super Bowl in 2008 - but now they to Helen Keller with Big Ben?
ReplyDeleteESPN - Every Suspect Probably Negro
Anony,
ReplyDeleteYou forgot, you're the only one here who's pretending to be appalled over "nappy hair".
You still didn't answer the question.
"ESPN - Every Suspect Probably Negro
ReplyDelete10:24 PM"
Miranda, may I use that? Now that is some stuff worth plagiarizing.
I am Anon8:42pm. Again, your assumption that I am also 8:14p is incorrect.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:14p is the one you want an answer from.
I mean a woman reports a rape one year after the fact?. I am not buying it. And I can understand why ESPN has not run with this story.
ReplyDeleteI can only dive into the deep end of the pool on some of these things, and one's not among them, so I will freely admit to not having gone through this will my usual Ice People fine toothed comb.
Did she really take a whole year to report the alleged rape?
"well field, ALL those black athletes have such troubled reputations. Its really rather Unfortunate that a few thugs give all those black young men a bad name."
ReplyDeleteor something thereabouts, i dunno. you know what I'm saying
The voice you hear in your head is the power of the Gods. It's a remote technology, like a computer, perhaps functioning on some frequency, and it can listen and talk to everyone in the universe simultaneously.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Gods taught the children was the truth:::God is everywhere, and as you will learn:::If you want to go to heaven you have to be good.
It is a tool, and the Gods use their tools to test people with temptation:::It will role-play people in your life:::Parents, friends, spouses, and employers in an attempt to corrupt people. Ionically, it does the very same thing to those people whom you think you're hearing, except in that individual's unique way:::We are all managed by the God's technology.
But this "agent of the Gods" can do more than just communicate. It can force thoughts into people's heads, force behaviors onto their bodies. It can turn healthy cells in your body into cancerous cells. It is absolute power. And this is just the beginning.
The Gods favor the children most among all the people due to their innocence and purity. But society and the God's tools therein corrupt the children at a progressively younger age, yet another clue illustrating we live in a constantly deteriorating environment.
Children who fix their problems with the Gods accend into heaven. Adults enter clone hosting. The gods sell them as one in the same, but one is good while the other is evil.
And their corruption will cost the disfavored, for they will be reincarnated as a lesser life form into an ever deteriorating world, sucess becoming ever more alluding with each passing life.
The hole they've dug for themselves is even deeper than the one that existed from their prior lives, ensuring it will take even more time and work to fix their problems with the Gods. And for many of us there may not be enough time left.
Ours is an envionment where evil is perceived to be rewarded while good is punished. As with everything the Gods have a reason for creating this perception::::
People who fall on the good side of the good/evil scale have more favor, and when they do something wrong the Gods punish them BECAUSE THEY WANT THEM TO LEARN. The Gods want them to receive this feedback in hope they make corrections and begin to behave appropriately. The Gods DON'T like evil and refuse to grant this feedback.
EVERYBODY pays for what they do wrong, only evil people must wait until their next life before they will experience the wrath of the Gods, manifested in their placement as a lower form of life into environments with increased/enhanced temptations.
Sadly, this allows the Gods to position this perception of evil rewarded as temptation, one which they use as an EXTREMELY effective corruptor.
Consistant with Planet Reverse Positioning, in Africa blacks are being punished with AIDS for their sexual promiscuity in hope they learn and correct their behavior.
Both Africa and the Medittereanean are regions which have sexual issues. This is a sign of morbid disfavor once you understand that females are the God's favored gender. Muhammad's (Mohammed's) polygamy halfway throught his life as a prophet was preditory. Now a huge percentage of Muslims believes in male superiority and that the abuse of women is God's will. Female genital mutilation is still practiced in Africa. Black misogyny is the most eggregious example in the recent past.
Vailing is tradition for some, practical for others, one which aids in the men's self control among some cultures. Much like the Jews who killed Jesus, like the bigots who oppose immigration there is a reason embraced by the masses and the real purpose, displaying the intent of the Gods::Conclude the evil that was the life of Jesus Christ, initiating the temptation of Christianity through the Church, and offer a clue to purebloods that they should not abandon their motherland.
The patriarchal cancer spread throughout Europe because of Christianity, of which the majority of policy makers were Italian men.
