There was a killing in Philly yesterday (So field, what else is new?) but this one was a little different. Killings are so common around here that they are usually just worth a line or two on my Killadelphia Murder Count. (See sidebar.) Still, this one had some elements to it that made me want to say a few things.
Ms. Kim (as she was affectionately called by neighbors) was a store owner in the East Mt. Airy/Germantown part of town. This is a fairly solid part of town, made up of primarily working class black folks. They have their share of crime, but nothing like West, North, or Southwest Philly. From all accounts, Ms. Kim was loved and well respected in the neighborhood. She ran the store with her husband and she was always known to let her customers slide if they owed money for their purchases.
Yesterday Ms. Kim lost her life, because she chose to confront one of her customers who had allegedly stolen a bag of potato chips. (Or a mop, depending on who you believe.) Ms. Kim, confronted the alleged thief outside of her store; the women struggled; and when it was over, the shopkeeper was dead. Again, depending on whose account you believe, the killer took a gun out of her pants and shot the shop keeper four times from point blank range in the face. After shooting Ms. Kim the woman allegedly calmly walked to the pay phone and called the police.
People in the community are devastated, and they all want to know how someone could have taken the life of "poor Ms. Kim."
So let's talk for a minute: Apparently the shooter had some mental issues, and everyone in the community knew it. When the woman tried to steal the mop (or the potato chips) should Ms. Kim have confronted her, or should she have called the police? And, what is it, exactly, that is preventing our people from starting or own businesses in certain neighborhoods? Is it because we don't have the financial backing or resources? Is it because we would rather work for someone else? Or is it because the risks are too great and we don't want to end up like Ms. Kim?
And finally, if this woman had mental issues, just how the hell did she get her hands on a handgun? (You don't have to answer that one, I already know) The shooting of Ms. Kim in East Mt. Airy yesterday will make the news for the obvious reason: A cold blooded murder perpetrated by someone of the fairer sex in the middle of the day. But the issues surrounding Ms. Kim's murder are troubling as well. Some of them are uncomfortable, so they will never be spoken out loud. Some of them we will talk about, but not until another tragedy that is so great and so unspeakable merits a pause at the water cooler.
*sigh*
ReplyDeleteWe can't save anyone, we won't save ourselves.
Sad Ms.Kim lost her life fighting for what she's worked hard for.
Field, when will we stop giving the Swim Clubs, the Fox News, the Limbaughs, the palins such cheap victories or fodder? It almost makes me want to knuckle under to these eugenics m-fs and say yeah, let's just sterilize all of parts of Philly, or Baltimore or DC or Chicago or ATL or New Orleans and call it a damn day. Sick? Yes and I curse myself for saying it, but what to do?
ReplyDeleteDid that guy singing with the group say "not this woman, the store up the street MAYBE, but not Ms. Kim" -wth does that mean
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this story, I cannot help but to think about "Latasha Harlins." The only difference is the outcome.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I suspect that Ms. Kim drew her weapon and paid dearly.
Everyday the story sounds the same. Another senseless death. Potatoe Chip or Mop? WTF?
ReplyDeleteFN,
That David Drake wouldn't post my comments, guess he didn't like that I called him the "It's Alive" baby from the 70's movie.
I'm going to assume for a sec that Mrs. Kim was the one who brought the weapon to this confrontation. This is why we need to open our own stores in our own neighborhoods, otherwise things like this will keep happening. We'll only succeed if we take every chance we can get.
ReplyDeleteI grew up on the South Side of Chicago in the era when lots of Arabs opened "corner stores". These stores always and I mean ALWAYS thrived in our black neighborhoods. Always.
ReplyDeleteBut as soon as another black opened a corner-store, or a little fast food restaurant, it would be closed within a year due to rampant shoplifting. I once had a young brotha tell me that "he didn't want a nigga gettin' rich offa" him. He couldn't stand a black man being successful "offa him."
Crabs-In-A-Bucket Syndrome is still a huge problem in our community. Don't tell me some of you more successful brothas and sistas here haven't walked pass one of us and heard "think he alla dat". We've all experienced it. Either in school when we are excelling or at work when we distinguish ourselves. We have a problem seeing other black folks shining.
Shoplifting and robberies. I forgot to add that.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to assume for a sec that Mrs. Kim was the one who brought the weapon to this confrontation. This is why we need to open our own stores in our own neighborhoods, otherwise things like this will keep happening. We'll only succeed if we take every chance we can get.
ReplyDeleteBlack merchants get robbed to. My mom owns a liquor store in East Baltimore and has been robbed at gun point once and has had her store broken into on numerous occasions.
Do even get me started on how she was burned by fake checks and counterfeit dollars. After the latter, I pulled a Ms. Kim and confronted the negro who gave my passed counterfeits to her.

ReplyDeleteYou know what's scary? I actually think I met this woman a few years back in her store. I can't remember why I was in there, but I was.
ReplyDelete"And Y'all wonder why "We" don't want Y'alls in our Swimmin Pools..."
Why Frank? if you let us in yur pool do you think we will shoot the life guard?
Phil4Real, don't sweat that guy, he is a coward.
What will happen if you're caught stealing a bag of potato chips from a Walmart? They don't say, "Oh, well, it's nothing." If you're lucky, they'll let you pay for it, ban you from the store, & leave it at that. Mrs. Kim was her own security.
ReplyDeleteAll the convenience stores in my area - & there are many - are owned by Hispanics or Indians, & they all have two things in common: They are fmaily operated by spouses or siblings, with grandparents, older kids pitching in, That's why can they're open from 6 am to 8 pm or later. & they're educated enough to manage the stores even when their mastery of English isn't strong.
I agree with Rudy. Something isn't right about this story. It sounds like the lovable Ms. Kim pulled her gun. Otherwise why would the shooter have called the police? I know the shooter is allegedly mentally ill but still, why call the police unless Ms Kim originally had the gun?
ReplyDeleteab-"amoral
ReplyDeleteruthless

ab, I am afraid you are right. The seeds of amoral behavior were planted in children years ago. But like you said, it's going to get a lot worse. Without morals arises a conscience with no sense of right or wrong. Unbridled ruthlessness naturally follows without respect for human life or property. It's the expressway to hell. Many are on that road in thought, word, and deed.
I'm surprised the issue of mental illness is even being mentioned, black people don't usually get that type of courtesy in the media.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I don't have anything consoling nor sympathetic to say regarding this situation. Therefore, I am going to save my jugular vain and plead the fifth to a certain degree.
Like Rudy, I'm wondering if Mrs. Kim went after this black female with the weapon. Due to violent stereotypes about black people, it's not likely this woman would confront a black person with her bare hands. She had a Soon Ja Du moment and she ended up becoming one with steel. Simple.
Another thing, I hate thieves and I would not have liked it if someone was ripping me off. However, some people act as though it's only black people who shoplift, white suburbians are masterminds when it comes to shop lifting and other type thievery. I don't see anybody arrogantly going after them with a friggin gun. Even those non-black blood sucking minorities who reap the recourses out the black community know damn well there would be hell to pay for attempting to shoot a white person over chips or a box of orange juice.
This entire thing was avoidable and just unfortunate and for both parties.
Furthermore...
ReplyDeleteAs for owning our own business, I long to see the day. As I have mentioned similarly before on a past thread, there are several things to consider.
Many blacks don't support black store owners due to the crab syndrome. And many black store owners gauge prices and show lesser appreciation and respect towards black patrons compared to what they give the non-black (if they get any non-black patrons at all).
Then we have those spiteful time dragging licensing bureaus... the lending institutions that would eagerly give a no credit history non-black minority the opportunity over a black business person with excellent credit and a long history in America.
Also, I'm thinking it's very understandably hard for many black people (particularly slave descendants) to get together and take large financial risk that many non-blacks do. Non-blacks also set up paved support systems for each other in their various communities. I don't know if our historical oppression and general distrust has a lot to do with the fear of losing what we are now barely acquiring. I donno, but I think we need to start saving more, and stop shoving our resources in other people's pockets.
Frank, I for one would not have been interested in swimming in that pool. The thought of head lice trying to survive in that water would have detoured me alone.
Frank Drackman,
ReplyDeleteHow does a mentally ILL woman, shooting or possibly shooting poor Miss Kim (RIP) have anything to do with scum keeping kids from going to a pool? I would LOVE to see your correlation.
One of my dreams would be to open a spa/natural hair salon. My boyfriend mentioned that I may not get support because black folks are unable at this point to support each other. Sad but true...to an extent.
I think we can and do support each other, some of us do, but what ails black folks is one hell of a malignant cancerous tumor. We need all the help in the world to get into remission and stay free of it: self-hate.
Sorry for my typos, proof reading is my weakness :)
ReplyDeleteI live in Northern California and there are a ton of Black owned businesses here. They seem to be doing okay to me and have both Black and no-Black customers.
ReplyDeleteWe have bookstores, art galleries, Neighborhood stores, car dealerships, clothing stores, hair salons, beauty supply stores and more.
I don't know maybe it's a regional thing Blacks not supporting Black owned businesses but here they seem to be doing pretty well.
I suppose my point is that sometimes we stereotype ourselves as much as other do us. Lots of Black people not only patronize Black businesses they actually seek them out.
Monie, the type of black owned businesses I was trying to refer to were the big cooperation business types - where it counts and where the wealth is generated for future generations, not the mom and pop shops (I wasn't being clear). Of course there are a few here and there, but they don't make a dent as compared.
ReplyDelete@La♥Incognita
ReplyDeleteTrue there aren't many Black corporations, although there are a few, but consider that it's only been about 40 years since the end of Jim Crow.
It takes time to build big business. I'm not making excuses only acknowledging that there have been obstacles for us.
Even after the end of Jim Crow it really wasn't until the 90's that we began to have access to the capitol required to make progress in the business world.
I suppose I prefer to see the proverbial glass as half full rather than half empty.
We are making progress. It sometimes doesn't seem that way because the media rarely focuses on our gains. Just take CNN's Black in America series for example.
I hope that we will begin to look at our strengths rather than just our weaknesses.
We can become a self-fulfilling prophecy of success or failure, the choice is ours.
Field, Ok I just went to the second link you posted. And I think Mrs. Kim went after the woman with the mop if anything. Again, I doubt she went out there empty handed to confront this woman.
ReplyDeleteThe point you made about people not establishing businesses in urban areas, due to crime, IS a major obstacle that must be addressed.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You're fellow field hang dropped a line on (can't remember his name, talking about Pres. Obama's daughter being pregnant) that he will NEVER forget. Don't bother looking for my comment. There's NO WAY he'd publish it :0)

Looks like another governor is going to be exposed soon for infidelity and fooling around with a hooker. The hooker is telling it. It's a governor that has a very prominent wife. Could it be Arnold? He did abruptly cancel a budget meeting. Anyways, we just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste.
ReplyDeleteThe store owner was well within her rights to confront a thief. Hindsight is always 20/20 of course.
Yes, we have rights to confront thieves. But you need to weigh the possible costs of exercising those rights. Yeah, it sounds 20/20. But perhaps another meerchant can learn something from this situation.
ReplyDeleteIf the misfortune were reversed, and Ms. Kim had shot the thief, would Ms. Kim had been charged with murder?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I hate thieves and the cascading effect they have on society. A merchant is dead because some trifling ass thief.
Monie, I don't want to give the wrong impression. Of course many blacks own their own businesses. Here in Philly that is the case as well. Blacks here own restaurants, art galleries, consulting companies, you name it. And there are many professionals (like moi)who own their own companies as well. The thing is, most of these companies are not invested in black neighborhoods. In fact, the more successful black businesses are set up in white areas or cater to a mostly white client base. I don't see many black businesses in certain urban areas employing people from the areas. Now there could be many reasons for that, (including crime and crabs) which is why I posed the question.
ReplyDeleteAs for this story, it is still kind of murky. I am still not sure who introduced the gun into the action.
Rudy,
ReplyDeleteThis was shoplifting not armed robbery.
Shoplifting is a fact of life from the corner store to Macy's.
Merchants have some ways to deal with this, other than have shoot outs.
If this was serious to the merchant, she should have called the police. The person was known so if the police were slow to come, they would have know where to find her.

ReplyDeleteFamilies are what build these establishments and help the newcoming immigrants get on their feat. The family structure in the African American community is far too broken for that.
I don't see anybody arrogantly going after them with a friggin gun. Even those non-black blood sucking minorities who reap the recourses out the black community know damn well there would be hell to pay for attempting to shoot a white person over chips or a box of orange juice.
ReplyDeleteAbsurd... why would this woman have this reaction? Maybe because African Americans in the inner city commit violent crime way out of porportion to their numbers. in the US blacks are 37 times more likely to commit a violent crime than whites. In New York city last year, though blacks, 24 percent of the City’s population, committed 68.5 percent of all murders, rapes, robberies, and assaults in the city.
How come white women like us so much?
ReplyDeleteSeveral studies support the notion that interracial mate preferences are gendered. For example, white women are more likely than white men to state a white racial preference (Sakai and Johnson, 1997) and report more disapproval from family and friends than white males when they date nonwhites (Miller et al., 2001)
college-educated females and males are more likely to exclude blacks than those with only high school degrees. This finding is consistent with racial–economic exchange theories predicting that less educated white women would be more open to minorities of lower racial status.
One of the most striking findings is that white women who describe themselves as slim, slender, athletic, fit or average are nearly seven times as likely to exclude black men as dates as women who describe themselves as thick, voluptuous, a few extra pounds, or large.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteJust because 68 percent of the violent crimes in NYC are committed by blacks does not mean that 68 percent of black people are violent criminals.
This is where ignorant racists like yourself play with stats to justify your hate.
The violent criminals are less than 2 percent of the black population and what is really the common demominator is they are usually young, male, uneducated and unemployed.
Do you believe an educated middle class black man is any more likely to commit a violent crime than his white counterpart?
If so, why?
My point is that black men are the leading causes of violent crime in practically every major city. So, naturally people begin to fear blacks. I don't think most middle class black men are violent, however, they aren't the ones hanging out in inner city shops.
ReplyDeleteRemember Jesse Jackson's quote about hearing footsteps behind him in the city at night and then being relieved that it was a white person? All he was doing was verbalizing what most people think.
"My point is that black men are the leading causes of violent crime in practically every major city."
ReplyDeleteThat is absolute bull$hit.
Most violence is intraracial and committed by someone who is either related to or known by the victim.
"Remember Jesse Jackson's quote about hearing footsteps behind him in the city at night and then being relieved that it was a white person?"
ReplyDeleteJust like I e-mailed Jesse when he originally made that stupid ass remark:
"Take your black ass to white trash neighborhoods like Bridgeport in Chicago, Gray's Ferry in Philadelphia, Sherpherdtown in Baltimore or Bensonhurst in Brooklyn and see how safe you feel."
People, people whatever your race, sex, nationality - Our government has given away a Huge chunk of our treasury and mortgaged our future by bailing out the Wall St thieves! This was a transfer of OUR MONEY to the very rich.unless you count yourself among the ranks of the plutocrats, you got screwed royally and so did your children and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteCan we please start a discussion about this since it affects the overwhelming majority of us all?
There will be less and less money available for education, social welfare, heathcare etc. because of this transfer of cash from the treasury to the favored few.
We have to address this. We have to work on making our government punish the Wall St. gangsters and thieves.
Allow me to play devil's advocate:
ReplyDeleteIf every black person just disappeared from NY City tomorrow...would the crime rate be reduced by 68% ?
No, just the arrest rate.
ReplyDeleteCuz I grew up in NYC and if you really don't believe white and hispanic guys don't commit as many assaults, drug deals, rapes etc as blacks than you aren't living in the real world.
If every black person just disappeared from NY City tomorrow...would the crime rate be reduced by 68% ?
ReplyDeleteThat's fairly impossible to analyze. Entire neighborhoods would be completely empty; the drug trade would be interrupted completely; some schools would have to shut down; society would be interrupted for awhile. Who knows what effect that would have?
Cuz I grew up in NYC and if you really don't believe white and hispanic guys don't commit as many assaults, drug deals, rapes etc as blacks than you aren't living in the real world.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the statistics these groups do indeed commit crimes; however, not in such greater proportions than there actual numbers.
One last point though: You are right Uptown, black people have the most to fear from other black people. And most whites are victimized by other whites. Whites (if they can) remove themselves from black constructs and have little to fear from being assaulted by them.
ReplyDelete"According to the statistics these groups do indeed commit crimes; however, not in such greater proportions than there actual numbers."
ReplyDeleteNo they're just not arrested at the same rates.
For instance, whites are 5 times more likely to use or deal drugs (and all the other shit that comes with that) than blacks yet blacks are 5 times more likely to be arrested and jailed for drug offenses.

People with mental issues should not be allowed to roam the streets. This is why we have mental institutions. Call me insensitive, i really don't care.Oh well.
ReplyDeleteWow. Can't believe how many folks are on the side of the shooter! I don't know about you but I have lived in the inner city and had to take a bus to get a loaf of bread or a quart of milk because no one wanted to do business in my neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI have faced the humiliation of having to ask a clerk seated behind a bullet proof glass for sanitary napkins and have him hand them to me through a little slot.
According to the article neighbors have created a memorial for her. I'm sure they know what they have lost.
RIP Ms. Kim

"We need to open our own stores in our own neighborhoods". What "own neighborhood"? If you own a business, you are part of the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteOut here in L.A., Blacks owned the convenience and liquor stores after the '64 riots, but sold out to immigrants when the middle class black home owners moved out.
The real issue is not gun control but mental health. Everybody knows someone is crazy and will end up hurting someone and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Mental and physical health should be treated the same in this country. If you are sick, you are sick and you should get help to get you well.

ReplyDeleteTwo reasons Filled Negro:
1) 400 years of Slavery and Oppression which has them unsure of their ability to provide needed goods and services for their own people, thus adding to the tax and employment base of their city.

Elle, I'm sure you are aware that there are various types of mental illnesses and they all range in levels. Not everyone diagnosed with a mental challenge or a mental illness pose a threat to them self or to others. And shoplifting isn’t something inherent to just mentally ill people. It could have been anyone.
If you get your wish, and judging by all the things we see going on, there would be more mental institutions popping up oppose to convenient stores.
"All the convenience stores in my area - & there are many - are owned by Hispanics or Indians, & they all have two things in common: They are fmaily operated by spouses or siblings, with grandparents, older kids pitching in, That's why can they're open from 6 am to 8 pm or later. & they're educated enough to manage the stores even when their mastery of English isn't strong."
ReplyDeleteHispanics and Indians have strong family ties and roots. They can easily operate and support a business(es) among themselves with confidence and trust that there will be more than enough out there for everyone.
Many Blacks live out of a deprived crab-in-the-bucket mentality, which comes from fragmented families and a feeling that there isn't enough 'out there' and Blacks cannot be trusted. So when one Black advances or does well, there is no sympathetic joy or appreciation but a subtle uneasy feeling of loss--that some other Black's success might be their loss. It is a mindset that operates from a deprived non-trusting non-supportive model within the Black community. It is the direct opposite of the mindset that operates within the communities of Hispanics, Indians and Asians.
I have strong feelings both ways. Two lives are destroyed and families devastated. Peace and blessings to both families.

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting that youtube. It spoke the truth and where the black race is headed. The destruction in our community continues and is done primarily by Blacks on each other.
I've never met anyone whose life was only worth a bag of potato chips. There are days that I wonder just what I was thinking when I chose to bring children into this world.
ReplyDeleteElle,
ReplyDeleteSome merchants build in the cost of shrinkage in the prices.
$1.00 cost her, her life.
Apparently she felt it was serious enough for a confrontation, then it was serious enough to call the police.
------------------------------------
What makes people here think white people don't steal at exaggerated rates. There are not enough black people in the US to account for the billions of merchandise stolen each year.
You ask a Black person you know in retail if they make enough to confront a white person they see steal?
Sometimes stealing a toothpick can be the straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe that was the case for Mrs. Kim. Either way, an elderly lady who had the reputation of letting black folks slide who didn't have enough money to pay for food they needed, was ruthlessly shot in the face four times.
ReplyDeleteHow many times do you have to shoot a 61 year old lady in the face before she is rendered harmless?
I would love to patronize BLACK shop's but, they will not give you a break when it come's to some of their (don't make no sense price's)! so I have no other choice but, to shop at a HISPANIC or ORIENTAL store or shop, would I like to support my people? YES!!!
ReplyDeleteI have tried to figure out why, a BLACK person will try to get over on their own people? how can a BLACK person open a shop in a minority community and then double their price's? well, their goal is to become successful as fast as they can! they want the big home's, car's and whatever else is fulfilling to their lust!
I don't know what happened but, is your life worth more than a bag of potato chip's or a mop? well poor Mrs. KIM found out the hard way! she lost her life trying to hold on to stuff that could have been replaced!
May Mrs. KIM rest in Peace*
I'm not sure where I stand.
ReplyDeleteMentally ill people need help and hospitalization, yet we know the system is all screwed up. Everyone that needs help, meds and inpatient treatment won't get it.
I still don't take the side of the thief-perhaps this wasn't the first time she had been caught.
I like supporting minority businesses- but in some cases they can't compare. Be it customer service, fair prices, quality, quanity, or running a business without loiters, hoodlums and people trying to sell me more shit in the parking lot. Sometimes I just want to get my hair done- I don't want to buy a church dinner; purchase bootleg dvds; order clothes, jewelry or wigs...I want a wash and set and get the Hell home in under four hours!
I can't help it sometimes the 'other' stores are neater, cleaner and less of a hassle for me. I'm not proud of my actions sometimes but I'm not ashamed of them either.
"$1.00 cost her, her life."
ReplyDeleteNo, a ruthless thief cost Mrs. Kim her life. Mrs. Kim did what she should have done when something was stolen in front of her face out her own store. It wouldn't have mattered if the item was $10.00. A sick raging thieving crook shot an old lady several times over a bag of chips that was stolen. That's enough to make Al Capone cringe.
TNB as usual -
ReplyDeleteWhat gets me is that there are people who find fault with Mrs. Kim for her death. The FIRST cause of this tragedy was the Negro who stole from Mrs. Kim. IF--there hadn't been a thief in her store to steal a bag of chips, Mrs. Kim would not have had anybody to confront to keep from stealing what belonged to her.
ReplyDelete"I'm going to assume for a sec that Mrs. Kim was the one who brought the weapon to this confrontation"

Ever since you left a message on my blog more than a year ago you have had no solutions. You only blame black people for everything. From the Lindbergh kidnapping to the 9/11.
Please CF name one thing that white racist have done bad.You can't , you're too busy kissing Rush Limbaugh's butt.

ReplyDeleteHave you heard about Skip Gates being arrested?! WTF!
I go to this site a few times to see what kind of crap they come up with, but even I was shocked to see this story about four horrible block party murders - all with our people - in different cities around the country.
ReplyDeleteWhy are Black people killing each other at Block parties!!
http://stuffblackpeopledontlike.blogspot.com/2009/07/296-peaceful-block-parties.html
"Have you heard about Skip Gates being arrested?! WTF!"
ReplyDeleteWhat's so unusual about that? If he's Black, he can be arrested at the will of the policeman and any reason will do. It matters little what his position is. In the white world, black is black.
Look Uncle Ruckus , the problem with black people is black people like you. Because of Uncle Clarence messing with the EEOC laws you need two cases of documented proof to prove racism.Business are smart enough to fire you after the first report
ReplyDeleteKid:
I like conversing with you. You are so predictable.
You are correct. I am a threat to the Black Establishment. You and they would rather allow them to continue with no consequence to their shortcomings.
I struggle to understand how, in your mind, one Black man named Clarence Thomas has more POWER to harm the Black community than does:
* 10,000 Black elected officials - 99% Democrat
* 39,999,999 other Black people in the nation working to do what Thomas is not
and
* YOU calling Thomas out but saying little about the people with actual ELECTIVE POWER over your situation.
How old are you man?

ReplyDeleteElle,
Some merchants build in the cost of shrinkage in the prices.
$1.00 cost her, her life.
No Hathor, and your ebonic logic is why blacks lag behind. As a merchant we don't consider shoplifting to be just one of those things we have to tolerate. $1 did not cost her her life... some bloodsucking ebonic speaking piece of dogshit did.
Field Negro, don't whine about the black man's burden of white racism when you can clearly see from the above posts how your own people are willing to sympathize with a young black woman who murders an elderly asian woman in cold blood. A lot of these posts are cold blooded and we all know they wouldn't be there if the race of the victim and perpetrator were reversed. We all know that.
FN:Yesterday Ms. Kim lost her life, because she chose to confront one of her customers who had allegedly stolen a bag of potato chips"
ReplyDeleteShe lost her life because SHE CHOSE TO CONFRONT ONE OF HER CUSTOMERS {hey FN a shoplifter IS NOT a customer} who had allegedly stolen......
BS through and through. She didn't lose her life because of a choise she made, but because of a choise a young black criminal made. And race does come into play because no doubt phrasing it the way you did would not have happened if the dead person was a negro and the murderer asain. Further if most black folks are like you and don't know the difference between a shoplifter and a customer that may have something to do with why you people are more likely to have problems with the cops. You also say she "allegedly" stole. I find it interesting that you are not as cautious about accusations when detailing the "alleged" racism experiences by Mr Gates. Instead of stating that Ms Kim died because chose to confront a "customer" why not say Mr Gates was arrested because he chose to confront a police officer in a belligerent manner? It seems like your readers think an Asian woman who confronts a black criminal is more responsible for her death then a black man who chooses to get hostile with the cops is responsible for her arrest.
You don't need to chase racism... it is residing within you. And given some of the comments by your readers you are surrounded by a coccoon of black racists.
Anon 3:11p, just for the record, there are a few Blacks who agree with you. Thank goodness there were more people in the neighborhood with hearts than here who cared.
ReplyDeleteAnon7:32p
Anon 4am. Thanks. I liked how you brought home the sick reverse discrimination some folks do but claim to want to end discrimination. No, they don't want to end it. What they want is power so that they can do the same thing to others what was done to them. They want to become what they hate.
ReplyDeleteBlack or White, racism is the path of psycho-paths.
"You are correct. I am a threat to the Black Establishment. You and they would rather allow them to continue with no consequence to their shortcomings."
ReplyDeleteWho exactly is the BLACK ESTABLISHMENT?
Never understood why y'all lawn jokeys be H8'in on the Orientals so much...It's not like THEY sold y'all into Slavery, it was Arab guys named Mohammed, and Kareem, and Jamal,to English guys named Derek or Rodney, and now, 500 yrs later you name y'alls kids after em...sometimes even given em 2 dead slave traders names... And the Orientals?? Hell I don't go within 10 miles of y'alls neighborhoods without callin the Cops first, and even then carry my trusty 45 ACP.....

ReplyDeleteMerchants make choices all the time, confronting a shoplifter was her choice. I didn't say it justified her murder. Apparently you don't speak standard English, because that is how I address these comments.
What I was addressing, was the fact that were some people here acting as shoplifting is an unique crime that only happens in Black neighborhoods and this person was somewhat different than the shoplifter at Macy's.
I have no Ebonic translation for you, if you don't get this.
"I don't know what happened but, is your life worth more than a bag of potato chip's or a mop? well poor Mrs. KIM found out the hard way! she lost her life trying to hold on to stuff that could have been replaced!"
ReplyDeleteMs Kim didn't believe her life wasn't worth more than a bag of potato chips. It was the young black woman who did.
Hathor said"Merchants make choices all the time, confronting a shoplifter was her choice."
And whistling at a white woman was Emitt Till's choice. Let's not forget that. He made a choice and if he'd made a different choice (such as not whisling at white woman) he would be alive today.
Anon 6:43,
ReplyDeletePeople like you always love to use children as examples.
Did someone tell you that you couldn't whistle at a white woman at 14?
Hathor-"Did someone tell you that you couldn't whistle at a white woman at 14?"
ReplyDeleteMany young Blacks were told that in their families during those days. It was done to save their children's lives. At your age I would think that you would know that.
anon 9:09
ReplyDeleteThat would have depended on where you lived and his cousins would have assumed that he knew.
As always as expected, a Black male child must be an adult.
And your are a shit for using him as an example. Trying to prove your week ass point with a dead child.
"And your are a shit for using him as an example. Trying to prove your week ass point with a dead child."
ReplyDeleteI think you are referring to Anon 6:43p. I am Anon 9:09p. I haven't used 'him' or anybody as an example, just my experience. This is the first time that I have seen you upset and you get pissed at me instead of the right person. What's up with that?
ANONS,
ReplyDeleteMISTAKES WOULD HAPPEN LESS IF ONE TOOK THE TIME TO SIGN WITH AN INITIAL OR PSEUDONYM.
One can create a false profile. I could understand it if someone only comments one time, but several comments.
You are lucky that Field allows this feature. Many bloggers don't.
Hathor-"ANONS,
ReplyDeleteMISTAKES WOULD HAPPEN LESS IF ONE TOOK THE TIME TO SIGN WITH AN INITIAL OR PSEUDONYM."
Are saying that mistakes WOULDN'T HAPPEN?
6:43 PM, both the whistling and the shoplifting was alleged.
ReplyDeleteNow, if you are going to use Till's murder as an example to this, then be willing to admit that Mrs. Kim also felt racially motivated and illegally confident enough to confront the woman with a weapon/mop to do bodily harm because she was black like Till.
Sigh. All these undocumented anonymous commenters and their sensitivity issues.
Furthermore... owning a shop/business doesn't give you the right to physically attack a person because you assumed they were shoplifting. Most shop owners know they would run the risk of assault charges and a possible law suit.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, the alleged shoplifter was a destitute black female and must likely appeared mentally slow due to her mental issues. So Of course Mrs. Kim probably assumed there wouldn't be any legal repercussions for hitting 'that on' upside the head. Well, she fatally underestimated.
As Hathor stated, she should have called the police. End of story.
tragic. I just posted a quote by Pearl Buck today that related so much to my thoughts on many things both personal and not:
ReplyDelete"Every great mistake has a halfway moment, a split second when it can be recalled and perhaps remedied." - I so wish many of us would recognize those halfway moments...
