I am about to blog about a crazy story. I swear I don't even know where to begin.
Let's see now: You have a black circuit judge in Alabama who was elected to office in an "overwhelmingly white" and "increasingly republican" county. The man was popular and by all accounts on the political and judicial fast track. The democratic party was even pushing him to be the first black federal judge from the great state of Alabama for crying out loud.
Well my man George Wallace can stop turning in his grave, because right about now things ain't looking too good for the Honorable Herman Thomas. Seems my man Herman might have some issues. -And let me say this right now for for the record: as someone who likes to rock an occasional bow tie from time to time, I think it's sad that my man Herman, if this proves true, might have done irreparable damage to the image of the bow tie in the courtroom.
"..his career collapsed under allegations that he brought inmates to his office and spanked them with a paddle. Later, an indictment accused him of sexually abusing male inmates in exchange for leniency. The trial on charges of sodomy, kidnapping, sex abuse, extortion, assault and ethics violations is set to start today."
Your Honor, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. And I know that you are innocent until proven guilty, but...... I mean who could make up something like this? Spanked the inmates with a "paddle"? Oh Lawd!
Field, you stop it this minute. Don't you see it's just another plot by the white man to bring another brother down? I mean come on field, it's Alabama. Even the NAACP is getting involved and coming to the brother's defense. They know a racist plot when they see one.
Hmmm, I don't know about that, especially when I read reports like this:
"Chief Assistant District Attorney Nicki Patterson said authorities began looking at Thomas after he changed a jail sentence in 2006 for his cousin, former Mobile County school commissioner David Thomas, even though the case was being handled by another judge. Other cases that Thomas had taken over from other judges without their approval soon surfaced, she said.
Some inmates in those cases described being checked out of the jail for meetings with Thomas in his car or in his private office in the county courthouse. First, there were reports of inmates having to pull down their underwear for spankings with a wooden paddle. Then came allegations of oral and anal sex, according to court records."
"Allegations of oral and anal sex"? OK, I am trying to keep in mind that they are, after all, just "allegations". But if true, I would sure be disappointed. Here is a brother who was on the fast track and who might have just thrown it all away because he couldn't control his sexual urges. (Or at least I think his urges were sexual.)
"Defense attorney Robert “Cowboy Bob” Clark calls the accusers “lying felons” who are trying to wreck the career of “a prestigious member of the bar for over 20 years.” The NAACP has defended Thomas and claims race is behind his prosecution."
We will see NAACP. We will see.

ReplyDeleteInquiring minds want to know: Does the paddle count as an illegal sex toy in Alabama?
ReplyDeleteI was about to ask the same question, Grinder. Did Judge Thomas buy that paddle in Alabama? Or did he cross state lines to buy his "marital aid"?
ReplyDeleteInquiring minds want to know.
It occurs to me that there is plenty of comedy material here.
ReplyDeleteDAMN!
ReplyDeleteDamn, You People have really arrived! I thought only us white folk got up to this kinda thing.
ReplyDeleteSee now this is better than all this bullshit re Letterman the media loves to hash and rehash. lol
ReplyDeleteOh and Field, I finally decided to unload on Tyler Perry. Guess what--the NAACP LDF wanted to run this essay, but the HNIC killed it at the last minute, fearing Perry's wrath and wanting to "offend" Ntozke Shange. No lie...
http://www.blackpower.com/arts-culture/we-cant-escape-zip-coon-miz-lucy/
sorry NOT wanting to offend Shange
ReplyDeleteImagine what he did with the gavel. I guess that's why they call it "hard" time.
ReplyDeleteOkay if the NAACP keeps defending people like this guy then they may as well change their name to The National Association for the Advancement of Criminal People.
ReplyDeleteNow see... you all know you are wrong for some of those comments.

ReplyDeleteAw, back in the good ole days when a prisoner entered a courtroom he only had to get a shake down.
ReplyDeleteNowadays he's getting dicked down.
thanks grinder!
ReplyDeleteChris, I just read your essay over at "Black Power" about our boy Tyler Perry, and it was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWait, wait, I thought of some more rude stuff to say...
ReplyDeleteIf these allegations are true, then yes, this judge must go down! And trust me, if these allegations are accurate, "going down" would be a true punishment for the esteemed Judge, because hes sounds like a Dom, and theres nothing more hellish for a Dom than to spend years upon years subbing for an entire cellblock.
HAhahahahahahaaaaa! Whoooooo!!!
I am sick and twisted, lol.
Maybe the judge figured that these guys were gonna get reamed in prison anyway, and since the State of Alabama froze the pay of all the judges that he'd take it out in trade?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, all the angst about Tyler Perry must be a black thing that I don't understand, 'cause when I made a point of watching a few of his shows I didn't see why everyone was so nervous.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that there hasn't been a minimally intelligent sitcom on TV for a very long time. Yeah, that one stereotypes the shit out of black people, but do you really think that "Family Guy" or whatever the hell it is makes white people look good?
Welcome to the Great Leveler. Everyone's stupid on TV. You've arrived.
when I read this story, I could only shake my head.this Kneegrow is in ALABAMA doing this mess...there are certain things where I can't even smell a setup, because the shyt is just too damn wierd for folks to take the time to set up a conspiracy. I believe he did it, and when found guilty.....oh well, what a fucking waste.
ReplyDeleteField,
ReplyDeleteSometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Maybe this is one of those.
Followed your link for the whole story and the following quote really popped out of the article:
"He has said he was trying to mentor the inmates"
Here's hoping Justice will prevail...
Thanks for the laughs, sometimes we need them.

How do you do that?
Your post incorrectly implies that Alabama has never had an African American federal judge. However, two African Americans have held the federal bench in Alabama. Judges U.W. Clemon and Myron Thompson were both appointed in 1980. They were nominated by President Jimmy Carter on the recommendation of Alabama's two U.S. Senators, Howell Heflin and Donald Stewart. Judge Clemon recently retired and Judge Thompson continues to serve.
ReplyDeletejust wow,
ReplyDeleteField, I couldn't get past the first couple of paragraphs.
I will have to try this one again later.
Where do you find this stuff?
Jeeezzus
If it's too crazy to be true, it probably is...
ReplyDeleteGrinder, I think most of what Tyler Perry does is low brow, lowest common denominator stereotypical crap, but that's just my personal taste. It is just TV, after all.
ReplyDeleteMy issue is not so much with Tyler Perry so much as it is with the fact that he's becoming just about the only game in town for commercially successful depictions of black life.
If things were reversed and the ONLY white shows on TV were Benny Hill and The Three Stooges, whites that wanted to do more refined types of comedy or move away from comedy in toto would be out of luck...
Chris, that was a really good piece of writing.
Why is the NAACP involved in this judge thing at all? Weren't the felons who accused the judge black?
And how the hell does an inmate get checked out to a private meeting in the judge's office or car? Seems like SOMEONE else had to be involved. Disgusting.
"Why is the NAACP involved in this judge thing at all? Weren't the felons who accused the judge black?

Yes Shady, I thought about that.
Anon 1:01 AM, thanks for putting me in check. I don't want to imply something that is factually incorrect. Was George Wallace alive in 1980?
"p.s. word verification "benders"

"Makaii", I don't. That's all google. :)
Grinder, this is one of those you have to be black to understand it things. I am not mad at Tyler Perry for getting paid, but you have to wonder why serious black movies and sitcoms can't get this much shine.
I'm not a Tyler Perry fan for various reasons, including the negative "I need a savior", loud, violent, destitute, angry black female stereotypes he exploits and helps perpetuates.
ReplyDeleteHowever, this last flick of his ("I can do bad by myself") has me wondering why so many more "brothers" are now hating all of a sudden. hmmmm
As for this Judge... well if it's true, he'll be sentenced to his kind of like-minded paradise shortly.
My friend Filled Negro - I must say that I am surprised and proud of you my man!!! (Or it may be that the standards by which I judge you are so low that any forward step cancels out the 4 you take backward)
ReplyDeleteI saw this news yesterday and then made note on my "Microscope On Black/Left-Wing Bias In The Web 2.0" blog that few Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive-Fundamentalist Racism Chaser blogs like yours would syndicate the story.(http://bqpfrc-bias.blogspot.com/2009/10/secret-test-of-reporting-bias-about.html)
I WAS ONLY PARTIALLY WRONG about you.
You get partial credit for going above and beyond the "AfroSpear Credo" and putting forth an article that is damning to a fellow Democrat to which you are beholden to in uplifting their honor despite their attempts to degrade it.
HOWEVER, you FAILED just the same. Whereas IF THIS WAS A REPUBLICAN JUDGE WHO was accused of accepting sexual favors on behalf of favorable judicial treatment - GAY SEX being a bonus - YOU would have taken this one man's discretion and worked your damnedest to extent it into some "Republican Attribute".
You would have asked if the GOP Judges gather together in chamber and swap stories about:
* 101 different ways to reach the point of orgasm while sitting upon a stack of law books, and your feet never touching the floor
* How many orifices on the human body can a judge's gavel be used for sexual pleasure?
* How to remove cum stains out of a Black robe?
* How to have an orgy with a 12 member jury that is sequestered at the Holiday Inn across the street and still produce a fair and impartial ruling.
Do you see where I am getting at Filled Negro?
This DEMOCRATIC judge is ultimately of no use to your greater agenda of attacking Conservatives. Thus you did not exploit his situation in such a manner.
As for the NAACP - it is so easy to see right through them.
SINCE the Black Community doesn't hold them accountable for fielding a COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION toward fixing the problems WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY they are allowed to CHERRY PICK cases and stand on the ground of MORAL CLARITY AND JUSTICE (for this many who has been accused). In the theory of the NAACP and other leftist activist group they might be in the process of being eaten alive by a shark with its mouth around their thighs and moving upward. Yet if this shark is on the endangered species list they will tout the HONOR of not having killed such an animal who is endangered and thus violating federal law.
(Note for people who graduated from West Philly High - the metaphor above is that the NAACP cares less about 'cleaning up the Black community from the threat from BLACK criminals' than it does insuring the absolute RIGHTS of the criminal defendant. THAT IS UNLESS the Defendant is a WHITE RACIST who has assaulted a Black. Then they take on a lynch mob persona)
For the NAACP (and you) RACISM trumps all questions of GUILT, Character Flaws and "Busting A Nut" Upon One's Own Oath Of Office in the act of transgression!!!
IF THEY CAN SHOW a RACIST intent to get this BLACK DEMOCRAT judge out of power then the pages in the Judge's record should not be allowed to be stuck together with these charges that have been ejaculated upon him.
HE IS NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF RACISM IN ALABAMA!!!
Your post incorrectly implies that Alabama has never had an African American federal judge. However, two African Americans have held the federal bench in Alabama.
ReplyDeleteAnon:
It is their BIGOTRY against the South. This is why.
The South has more Black Elected Officials in place than does the "Enlightened North".
The state of Georgia has a higher high school graduation rate today (78.9%) than does the progressive city of Chicago (55.1%).
While the Black Progressive-Fundamentalists are busy cheering Rachel Maddow on in her attacks upon Southern Conservative governments - THEY DON'T NOTICE that 87% of the students in Chicago that make up this 55.1% graduation rate are BLACK and HISPANIC!!!!
In summary - OUR PEOPLE are being hurt the most in these enlightened outposts of Chicago, Philly, Baltimore, DC and Detroit (among others). Whereas the Progressive-Fundamentalists take PRIDE that "favorable people" not control all of the key institutions in these areas they seem to be CLUELESS in the need to follow through and turn this pride at all of the portraits of these leaders which hang on the walls into ACTUAL BENEFIT for our people, moving us closer to obtaining our PERMANENT INTERESTS!
The "Confederate State of Georgia" has a high graduation rate than does CHICAGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Please allow that to sink in to your consciousness)

ReplyDelete@ Christopher Chambers:
Even black conservatives, usually more fearful of the “coon” moniker themselves, have spoken. John McWhorter, in his recent piece in The New Republic, dismisses Perry’s body of work as “chitlin’ circuit” trope. Interestingly, McWhorter praises Perry’s easy-to-digest lessons in the wingnut trope of personal responsibility.
I bet that in your mental coccon you see nothing wrong with your words above. Do you?
* WHO is calling the so-called Black Conservative a "Coon"? - And the other words that a Black man USED TO HEAR just prior to being LYCHNED by a White Mob? (You have mastered your oppressors ways, it seems)
* WORSE YET - WHO ELSE DON'T THESE BIGOTS call out as a "COON" despite them doing everyting to DESERVE such a title per their damage to the Black Community?
* WHAT has filled the void of the repulsive construct known as "Personal Responsibility" within the Black community and ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS?
* WHO DO YOU HOLD ACCOUNTABLE now that you have purged all of the CONSERVATIVES from the areas that you control?
These are the counterbalancing questions that you will never hear from an IDEOLOGICAL BIGOT like Chris Chambers.
You see folks - The Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive-Fundmamentalist Racis Chaser is in on big "circle jerk" with your ownselves.
This piece written by Chris would pass as "mainstream Black thought".
Notice that DESPITE the purported "offensiveness" of Tyler Perry's works this same "Black Progressive Brain Trust" is not going to do anything to seriously injure Tyler Perry financially for his indiscretions.
If there is no way to go after the "major studio CORPORATION' and the "White Entertainment Executives" who PERMITTED THIS BLACK MAN (ie: Greenlighted the Project) then Chris and others will simply and passively use their computer keyboards to do their protests.
I bet the Pervert Judge has more honor and integrity in his judgements.
I'm wondering why you didn't post the graduation rate of the entire state of Illinois vis-a-vis the State of Georgia.
ReplyDeleteYou win the prize for the first IDIOT to ask the question.
Think about it:
The Chicago Public Schools is ONE SYSTEM that is managed by ONE CONTROLLING BODY and one "SINGLE PAYER". If you were intellectually honest you would be arguing that this ONE CITY SYSTEM - which proports to be one of the top 3 PRODUCTIVE cities in America should have a graduation rate that is FAR HIGHER than the "Confederate" State of Georgia which is a patchwork of various school systems - most of them rural - with a varying funding level.
The graduation rate for the state of Georgia has risen to 78.9% in 2009, an increase of three points over the last year. The three-point jump means nearly 4500 more students graduated with a full diploma. Dougherty County’s rate rose from 63% to 75% in the last year. Superintendent Dr. Sally Whatley attributes the advancement to the hard work of teachers and students.
The sad truth of the situation is that 87% of the student body in CPS is BLACK and HISPANIC. If your goals were just you would see that this CONCENTRATION of minority students points to a serious problem. A problem that a 99% DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED CITY HAS NOT FIXED.
Let mem be clear - while you (WhiteBowieSteve), Filled Negro and AfroSpear sell the notion "GET MORE DEMOCRATS AND OUR PROBLEMS WILL BE FIXED" I am arguing that THIS HAS NOT WORKED.
You MOLEST my argument as being "Democrats have failed LET'S GET REPUBLICANS IN".
This is as BIG OF A LIE as 80% of Filled Negro's stories are.
I am arguing for you to stop being a SLAVISH SELLOUT and instead focus on solutions that will drive us toward our PERMANENT INTERESTS.
CLEARLY the way that you have been guiding us HAS NOT WORKED.
OOOOHHHH.
ReplyDeleteThe Tom is having a tantrum which means I hit him in his soft spot.

BTW, I don't live in Chicago.
Where I live, just about every kid who has graduated high school over the last 9 years has gone on to college.
Some to very prestigious institutions like the Naval Academy, Georgetown, Univ. of PA and in my son's case Howard and GWU.
So for many of us, our way HAS worked.
Psssst Steve,

Just out of curiosity.....you say rape "is NOT always about sex".
So, how do you know when it is, or when it isn't?
Let's say you see this hot hoochie mama walking down the street, and you think to yourself, "self, I sure would like to have me a bit of that booty".
If you ask her nicely, and she says, "sure thing, big boy", then no power or control is needed to get you some.
If she's says "no way, you creep", you might just have to wop her upside the head one time, if you're just bound & determined to get you some. Now, you didn't really WANT to have to wop her upside the head, but it was quite apparent if you wanted to have sex with her, that was the only way you were going to get it.
So, either way, it's sex in this particular scenario, is it not?
When is rape "just about sex"?
You'd think that this judge would have been able to find a way to conceal his degeneracy like the rest of his fellow (white) judges. Guess not.
ReplyDeleteNo matter. But the thing is, I didn't realize this brutha was a brutha™ when I first saw the news. If all of this is true, then he needs to get grilled, bowtie and all.

Steve - You are like a damned BROKEN RECORD!!!
I told you PLENTY OF TIMES!!!!: I am NOT CONCERNED about the STANDARDS that YOU, Filled Negro, SouldBrother or Mark-M ENFORCE UPON YOUR OWN FAMILY!!!!! You are all HONORABLE MEN in this category.
I repudiate how the POLICIES that you support afford OTHER PEOPLE AND THEIR CHILDREN to accept an INFERIOR set of standards - partially because of YOUR FEELINGS about THEIR INFERIORITY to live up to anything greater.
Steve - I am about to cut and paste these words so that I don't have to type them again - when you make the same damned defensive challenge to me next month.
CF, we are all aware that most urban public school systems suck.
What are your suggestions for improving them?
This is EASY WhiteBowieSteve:
1) Acknowedge that 95% of the forces that are FAILING BLACK PEOPLE are LOCAL were we live in our highest concentrations
2) With #1 accepted - stop allowing SOLD OUT HUCKSTERS to divert your attention away toward NATIONAL politics for the purposes of allowing the pepole who are FAILING YOU but whom you FAVOR ideologically to GET AWAY with the INJURY that they are causing you.
3) Acknowledge that we have TOO DAMNED MANY BLACK PEOPLE WHO HAVE MANAGEMENT SKILLS today to continue being FOOLED by this "MAGICAL GRAVITATIONAL PULL OF INDUCTION" that NEGROES FEELING GOOD AND FEELING MOTIVATED about their elected officials is going to TRANSLATE INTO. INSTEAD these Black Managers need to step forward and apply the same HUMNAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT and PROCCESS ENABLEMENT strategies that they do for their CORPORATION - applying it to the HUMAN RESOURCES that need order and purpose WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY.
Bottom line Steve - You, Filled Negro, Monie, Granny and several others on this board are more comfortable FIGHTING AGAINST EVIL CONSERVATIVES WHO RESIDE ON THE OUTSIDE of our fort than you are in taking a strong dose of reality and focusing upon managing your people on the INSIDE OF YOUR FORT WALLS.
In as much as you depart your positions INSIDE the fort in order to fight the external threat - the inside will remain unmanaged and underperforming.
Again I struggle to understand WHY YOU ARE ASKING FOR MY SUGGESTIONS now. At least in theory you have very favorable conditions per what you have struggled for for the longest.
You show no intention to CHANGE despite your frustrations.

i said "always not"

it is always about power
the rabid misogyny in ALL of your depraved rants herein is as tangible as putrid saliva foaming from the mouth of any fellow mangy dog...
but i commend and thank you on being exhibit A today for the vulgar sexist hatred that fuels a typical rape:
Most men can only relate to the sexual vulnerability of vaginal penetration when they can imagine themselves being penetrated by a gay man. I often ask them to imagine that they are drunk and mutually experimenting willingly with a gay man...This anal penetration becomes painful and they ask the gay man to stop and withdraw....He refuses to do so and forces them to remain prone until he has ejaculated within their wounded and rigid bodies. Then I ask: "Is that rape?"...Only then do they answer "Yes".
Only when they envision this imaginary incident do they suddenly understand how easily and rapidly routine consensual sex can move into rape...These epiphanies on the air always remind me of my favorite scene in the superb film "A Time to Kill”. Sam Jackson is freed only when racist jurors are forced to envision his wounded black daughter as a white girl. Only then does her human pain matter...only when she has white skin. Likewise, men can only regard the pain and abuse of women when they are similarly mistreated by another man....

ReplyDeleteGrinder, this is one of those you have to be black to understand it things. I am not mad at Tyler Perry for getting paid, but you have to wonder why serious black movies and sitcoms can't get this much shine.
ReplyDeleteWell, I thought about it again, and came up with a different way of looking at it. I am sometimes bugged that the "mainstream" gay show on TV turned out to be Will & Grace, which is about as stereotypical as it gets and does not reflect the way I and the people I know live.
If you're a member of a historically despised group, you'll inevitably be more focused on how you're depicted than the majority will be, to the point where you'll overlook the positives in a particular depiction.
It took me quite a while to realize that, as much as it makes my skin crawl, Will & Grace probably does more help than hurt for gay people with the general population. Even though it portrays gay people as either flighty, urban, white 30-something yuppie males or alcoholic bisexual semi-lesbians.
What's even tougher was to realize that, as much as it makes my skin crawl, all that stereotyping didn't exactly arrive on a spaceship from Neptune last week. It's exaggerated, but there's more than a grain of truth in it too.
Maybe that's why Will & Grace makes my skin crawl, and maybe that's why Tyler Perry's shows make a lot of black people's skin crawl. My solution on the Will & Grace front has usually been to change the channel, except for the once or twice a year when the mood strikes, in which case I last about 20 minutes.
Back to the judge, a serious comment or two.
ReplyDeleteI did some more clicking around, and was struck by the fact that he's got a white lawyer who is basing his case on the powerlessness of the accusers, i.e., 15 black criminals can't possibly be believed.
But they are being believed, and to me that is remarkable. Now, the cynics might note that the prosecutor is white, and the judge and his accusers are all black, and say, "Ah, the age-old Southern trick. Get the black people fighting amongst themselves."
You could imagine that being the case, but it would be a stretch. You'd need to have all of those criminals coordinating their stories. In the real world, I think it's pretty tough to accomplish that sort of thing, especially with a big band of criminals who, in general, are not known for having been at the front of the line when the creator was handing out the brains.
Another observation would be this: Thirty or forty or more years ago, no one would have ever believed the accusations. In fact, with this judge there were similar accusations five or six years ago and they were not believed.
But now, given all of the sexual scandals at all levels, people are much more inclined to give credence to accounts like this. I don't think the behavior the judge is accused of is new at all. What's new is the willingness of anyone to actually deal with it.
p.s.: When I talked about brains, this isn't a broadside about black people. It's about criminals in general. The smart ones wear suits. The dumb ones do blue-collar crime, and the dumb ones come in all colors.
ReplyDeleteThe general mental dullness of the typical criminal makes me more inclined to trust the accusations, is my point. My going-in position is that I don't think 15 criminals are smart enough to coordinate their stories.
The trial might disprove me on that, but I'd be surprised.

ReplyDeleteI was about to ask the same question, Grinder. Did Judge Thomas buy that paddle in Alabama? Or did he cross state lines to buy his "marital aid"?
Inquiring minds want to know.<<
Are marital aids illegal in AL? In any case, while taking the day off from work yesterday, I watched The People's Court. Judge Judge Marilyn Milian show opined that she wasn't going to overturn or revise a ruling by a family court judge. (The case involved child support payment arrangement between a man and his ex, who were on amicable terms.)
And this guy is taking over cases handled by other judges?? Just so he can spank and have sex with vunerable inmates?
As Field said, who could make something like this up? He should have joined a club or chat room to hook up with others intead of ruining his career and possibly jeopardizing his freedom.
Okay if the NAACP keeps defending people like this guy then they may as well change their name to The National Association for the Advancement of Criminal People.<<

ReplyDeleteWhat's so terrible about a sex columnist? I hope you're not thinking I'm going to be signing onto any prude thing, 'cause I ain't going there.
As far as I'm concerned, if both (or I should say "all") parties are agreeable adult human beings, there aren't any kids nearby, and no one winds up in the emergency room, I'm all for it.

i used to be a sex columnist
i did a dual sex column with singer adina howard
she wrote for hets
i wrote for lesbians
but it was AFTER college for HUES magazine
the articlei linked is about sex columnists as a distraction in academia for "generation sex"...read the whole article!...
ie
jfk made bubba look chaste
he literally turned the white house into a brothel
but
he was enabled but
no one defended or cheered him the way they did bubba and monica...
tons of ELEMENTARY kids are sexting and sexing and making babies as babies...and their parents are more concerned with any gay teacher who may be discreet/monogamous/closeted/sterile...
most cartoons i see are R-X rated
and kids are watching them...when they are not watching even more sexual fare like reality shows and CSI on cable...
SEX has become way too rampant and way too abused in society, and this silly nasty rapist judge is just one more example of the carnal madness...
I think as a society we're plain weird on the subject.
ReplyDeleteDue to better nutrition, the age of sexual maturity has declined by several years. Yet, at the same time, we have this exalted concept of "childhood" and "adolescence" and think that it can be walled off from any references to sex.
Well, it can't be. That won't work when you've got girls and boys hitting puberty at the age of nine and 10 and 11. No one wants to be realistic about this, so we go on and on about "predator" this and "predator" that.
Thank God I don't have a jones for kids. I don't approve of adults who tap into the kiddie pool. But the idea that kids can be shielded from sex is just crazy to me.

turbo breeding is even damaging to children chemically as well as mentally/emotionally
if children have no innocent spaces at home or on tv...then where can they???
as an early child educator, it grieves me to see how many pre-k children are sexually mature/tatooed/nail polished/lip glossed/stripper clothed/pierced/mini-mes of thugs and tramps...
my fav show was sesame street...still is one of my favs
most K kids today love csi
and watch it not to become forensic scientists but for the sex and gore...
ask any teacher:
we are all doomed by the asexual childhoods that are too soon lost...
ie
many toxic young boys age 4-6 are removed from classes by child custodial svcs for explicitly verbally harassing adult teachers like drunken 35 yr old sailors!
many very young children of all ages act out increasingly explicit sex that they routinely witness on couches and behind unlocked br doors at hm
Victims were poor young black men caught in the judicial system and in need of help. What about them? Screw him. I could care less about what happens to him.

Slimy and cynical for sure.
A quid pro quo.
I didn't see anything that suggested the NAACP was launching any active defense of this judge other than the standard "he's innocent until proven guilty.
Why I don't understand, and I see it a lot on black conservative sites, is this intense hatred for the NAACP and the desire to see it dismantled.

I have been a member of the NAACP at various times throughout the year. Given the organization’s reputation—among members and non-members alike—it is disturbing that this august organization comes out on behalf of the likes of perverts like R. Kelly. And now, apparently, this judge.
I bet the NAACP is happy to be demonized by the right wing. Keeps 'em relevant.

Could you SPECIFICALLY detail for us:
1) What do YOU THINK the NAACP should have as its priority with respect to the challeges standing in the way of the ADVANCEMENT of "Colored People Today" (Note: The references of WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING)
2) What do you see them doing today that shows them to have LOST THEIR WAY in your opinion (Note: Where they stand today that is far away from the reference point identified in #1)
3) The SPECIFIC process that the Membership and External Black folks should execute to Communicate to them about the GAP and what they need to do CONSTANTLY to get to this point.
4) The CONSEQUENCES that they should suffer if they FAIL TO CHANGE THEIR WAYS?
I am getting the constant attacks upon the NAACP as being ineffective. Yet, for some reason they (and other misaligned groups) who have power and influence with out people don't face the same scrutiny and attacks that some of the more favored adversaries of the Black Establishment - which is ideologically in line with the NAACP.
Thank you in advance.

ReplyDeleteNo never heard about it Uts. Thanks for the very important information.
Maybe I've just been unfortunate in encountering corruption but this kind of abuse happens a lot, especially in small towns and small cities where everybody knows everybody and nobody white or black wants to rock the boat. In these places talking about the corruption that everybody in town knows is going on is a worse sin than what's happening. I guess because people are (usually with damn good reason) afraid those in power will retaliate. It's a sorry situation but things like what this judge is accused of are happening all over small town and small city America.
ReplyDeleteField, I'm glad you brought up Wallace. I find him a fascinating figure in American politics. His contradictions and cynical decision to become the South's ultimate race-baiter and symbol of segregation because as he said after his loss to a KKK backed candidate, "I'll never get out n*ggered again!" are worthy of study and discussion.
To go from candidate and Judge Wallace who was the NAACP endorsed, anti-KKK campaigner, most liberal judge in Alabama, and "first judge to call me 'Mister' in a courtroom" to Governor and segregationist and racist symbol Wallace (and finally renouncer of his racist past Wallace) is a Greek tragedy but a particularly American one. I'd love for there to be more study of Wallace and his transformations. He's a glaring example of a man choosing to embrace the politics of extremist hate not because he necessarily comes to them from a position of believing in them but because he decides it's an action that will gain him power. (Not that Wallace was a perfect post-Civil Rights enlightened being beforehand but that he was certainly more progressive than most of his white peers before his decision to embrace hate.)
His story painfully and vividly illustrates one of the biggest dangers in our democratic system -- that the people can be horribly wrong and yet we the people are charged with choosing our representatives. It all breaks down when candidates refuse to stand above and instead play to our worst collective tendencies. I also think there are lessons that can be gained from studying Wallace that are applicable to today. The teabaggers and the extremism being embraced by GOP lawmakers come to mind immediately. And now, with conservative media stirring up the worst in the people on a scale never before seen I think the danger is even bigger. What bargains and/or toxic beliefs are lawmakers in general and the GOP in particular ready to make in order to gain/regain power?

ROTFLMBAO
While we are discussing Gov. George Wallace. Here are some facts for you Field. In Gov. Wallace's last election (1982), he failed to carry the majority of the white vote. The majority of the white vote went to Lt. Gov. George McMillan, a decidedly progressive guy who wanted to break with the past and move Alabama into the "New South." However, George Wallace did carry the majority of the African American vote. In fact, he carried such a heavy percentage of the African American vote in Alabama that he was able to defeat McMillan. Yes, as unbelievable as this may sound to Northerners, white Alabamians voted for the progressive Democrat and black Alabamians voted for George Wallace.
ReplyDelete@anon 11.32 -- By that time, Wallace had sought forgiveness and a lot of people spoke to the man he was in the past versus the one he was as segregationist. IIRC, Wallace had also appointed a lot of black folks to government positions.

ReplyDeleteAnon. 11:32PM, stop it! That can't be true. Are you serious? Wow!
My understanding is that, apart from his despicable racism, Wallace was pretty strongly on the side of working folks. His great tragic error, as he ultimately came to see, was that he wasn't on the side of all working folks while he was governor.
ReplyDeleteA white friend of mine from Alabama once told me that, if Wallace hadn't been a segregationist, he would have been hailed as one of the great Democrats of his time. It's hard for me to imagine, because when I was growing up he was a symbol of everything that was wrong about the South.
BEST. FN. POST TITLE. EVER.
ReplyDeleteFN: i hear you - i was... pretty astonished over this story -- once i finished snickering that is.
ReplyDeletei just wanna say: how many times do we have to read a story like this?! why do men persist in taking risks that could easily be avoided: from McSqueevy to this clown. i fail to understand why men in these positions, don't understand that you: never shit where you eat.
except for maybe that Senator who got caught in the airport bathroom.
But for most other idiots it's either: staffers, staffers' wives, interns, & in this "allegedly" shocking case - their... clients?
or they do the old prostitute routine: which is fine but spend the $ for the truly discretionary stuff or 'legal' - go to Nevada or take a trip to Amesterdam. and for gawd sakes: don't use your credit card or a check!
AB: i think you're right it's ALL about Power. they essentially 'prey' on the very people whose lives are dependent on decisions these guys make. plus i think there's a level of... seediness that's in play: yeah they might have the money to get a high-end-DISCRETE- call-girl service but i think the thought of "getting caught" does it for them. i don't know.
but look at the tremendously OVERRATED Clinton - which is a whole 'nother subject: he continually compromised his presidency cause he couldn't keep 'it' in his pants.
grinder: on the whole gay tv thing - i know plenty of guys like the characters on Will & Grace. but like straight folks, gay folks come from very diverse backgrounds and you're right that that gets lost in the "creative juices" in TV storytelling. look a the Sci-Fi channel, now if ANY channel can get away w/ exploring sexuality, it's the Sci-Fi channel. instead aside from a few Star Trek episods, i've never seen more "nerds" get more 'play' from hot women.
as for the NAACP defending this fool: it's unfortunate that the NAACP, an organization filled w/ Black ministers, Black politicians & their cronies, have yet to expand their understanding of race relations in the 21st century. so like a simpleton they immediately think this situation practically calls for a civil rights march. the young brother whom they brought in as the ED/President to supposedly change it, is essentially powerless in comparison to the much more powerful local chapters. because i can't believe he'd support this foolishness. but we've all been disappointed before.
are they becoming obsolete? i don't know, but it doesn't look good. instead of focusing on say... the health care issue or trying to educate Black folks around environmental racism they focus on small sh_ _ like this!
CF: DAMN you're back???!!! (BIG SIGH) don't you have like 10 blogs of your own to keep you busy?!

ReplyDeleteTo the NAACP's credit, it apparently has, been advocating health care reform. I just wish it was as vocal as these wingnuts that have been disrupting the townhall meetings during the summer.
In fact, the organization is holding a town hall forum tomorrow. They are inviting people to weighi in with questions.

BG#1, stereotypes are funny animals. They exist for a reason, and in small doses they can be a lot of fun and even educational in a certain way. But take 'em too far, and the knife turns real quick.
ReplyDeleteHey, where was this judge when they needed him at Guantanamo Bay, anyhow?
ReplyDeleteGrinder: i hear you but stereotypes will never die. especially for a US population that fails so poorly in critical thinking skills. we can only hope to 'push the envelope' in other ways.
ReplyDeleteSharon: then i stand corrected. but for the NAACP it might not be for lack of ideas, it's just trying to mobilize, clean-house, on inactive, change-resistant, 'heads' on the local level -- otherwise i suspect more people would know about their lil' town hall mtg. also, i they have the "microsoft syndrome" - which is the ideas they have are often "a day late & a dollar short."
which is why people find Color of Change a bit more relative.
You're right about Color of Change. I've been more active with that org than I ever have been w NAACP.

ReplyDeleteBG#1, human beings are wired for pattern recognition, and stereotyping is just one form of it. We might as well protest the rising of the sun. The key, I think, is what you do with stereotypes. If people are educated to see them for what they are -- a place to start the conversation, not end it -- then we'll be (mostly) okay.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're in a hated and stereotyped group, it's easy to go crazy about stereotypes. I'm getting slightly mellower about it. Slightly, that is. Maybe "philosophical" is the right word.
I mean, in a different thread I've got the resident idiot on this blog, La Incognita, throwing one of the oldest anti-gay stereotypes in the book at me. Pisses me off, but I figure in the end it says more about her than it does about me.

COULD YOU DETAIL FOR ME What has "The Color Of Change DONE that is RELEVANT to the critical issues that actually impact Black America"
* We are exiting the "Bloody Summer" where a Black person has been killed every day in Metro Atlanta alone. I HAVE NEVER seen "What Color Change Did MoveOn.org Pay Us To Carry Their Leftist Message To Black Folks" protest the KILLING of Black people
* Are they in Chicago? No NO! Not about the KILLING. I am talking about the 55.1% high school graduation rate. The school system is 87% Black and Hispanic. Isn't this more fruitful a target than is South Carolina?
"Color Of Change" is yet another Black LEFTIST group that cherry picks issues that they know that Leftist Kneegrows will favor as they allow so many real issues in our community go unmanaged.
