An Easter killing and a foreign born president.

I knew it was going to come to this. You Negroes and all this dressing up you like to do for Easter. What the hell is that all about? Now you all "went and done" killed each other over your Easter clothes. Stop the madness! Even your poor kids are scared of Easter cause you all have them dressed in suits that they can't even move in. And those damn hats! I swear if I ever went to church my pastor would have to have a hat section for all you hat wearing women to sit in. I can't see the preacher over your damn hats.

"COLUMBUS, Ohio - Police in Ohio say a woman shot her cousin to death during an argument that started because one woman didn't think the other was dressed properly for Easter dinner. Columbus police Officer Jean Holmes said in court Tuesday that the leg-baring shorts worn by 19-year-old Danielle Pickens sparked a verbal and physical confrontation with 42-year-old Evelyn Burgess on Sunday at Burgess' home."

Oh Lawd, the woman had the nerve to have on "leg-bearing" shorts for dinner and her cousin shot her. Can you say issues boyz and girls?

Look, I love to dress with the best of em. I am very in touch with my sartorial side. But sometimes you Negroes tend to go over- board with all the dressing up. Sometimes I want to listen to some of those preachers on television, but I can't because all the buttons on their suits keep distracting me from the message. And don't even front like it's just me. You all know exactly where I am coming from.

And finally, you all know I couldn't go without taking yet another shot at my wingnuts friends. Honestly, I would rather not talk about these folks, but they make it so hard for me not to. So anway, have you all heard the latest from this "motley crue"? (Wait, did I write "motley crue"? Clearly I meant monolithic crue) Seems they caught Michelle Obama speaking at a 2008 DNC fundraiser saying that her husband's home country is Kenya. Oh my, they have him now. The birthers are salivating over this one.

"OOPS!Interesting statement caught on tape from Mrs. Obama... Why would Barack Obama's home country" be Kenya (as stated by his own wife) if he was born in the United States? Obama grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii to the best of our knowledge.Obama's own Grandmother says she was at his birth in Africa...not Hawaii. (Last I checked - there was a big difference in these two locations.)The "Believers" will continue believing a Liar - even when his own grandmother, his wife and others have made public claims that Obama's home country and birth place was in Kenya.I can't call Obama's own Kenyan grandma a liar. Sorry. I will believe her more than Barack - she has no motive to lie."

  1. Field, I think its a little deeper the story show -- I highly doubt a sane, rational woman would shoot her 19-year old niece over a mini-skirt. Something tells me that this is a Marvin Gaye Sr type stuff and there was something brewing for a long time.

    But then again, so-called sane, rational people will take a gaffe from the first lady as proof that the President is a secret Kenyan Muslim communist hell-bent on killing grandpa.

    I don't get the Birthers either. McCain wasn't even born on US soil but yet he was a viable candidate for most of them. I know of one guy who said that both Obama and McCain aren't real citizens and tried suing them in federal court but his case was dismissed.

    There are so many other things to worry about in this world than the Birther issue. One thing is how we can move our economy along by creating something...We also should consider getting involved with Earth friendly activities like camping or going to National Parks. The list goes on and on...

This is yet another example of a situation that could have ended with bruises and pulled hair instead of bullets and blood, if not for the gun... And, I am sure that the gun advocates will tell me she had the gun for her protection.. my response, that ended well, huh?

    As for the wingnuts.... one of the down sides of the internet is that any fool can post something, and because it is posted, it somehow gives it credibility.... Critical thinking and research is becoming an endangered concept.

    There is a great book that has been out for a while...Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats by Craig Marberry...it's a god read and enlightening on why black women wear church hats :)

    And...

    You already know that women had deeper issues with her young cousin than her showing up with shorts on...

    And then...she just had issues...

    And...

    I think we will be hearing more and more of these far fetched stories of violence this summer...

    It may be the longest summer of discontent on record....I'm jus sayin'....

    Field you sure can find some disturbing things to post. I can hardly believe it but I can, people are under enormous stress these days and some folks are ready to snap and some as you show actually do.

    I suspect there had been quite a bit of disrespect being shown the older relative and she went over the edge when she felt insulted yet again.

    Jody you made a lot of sense. Maybe just maybe if there had been no gun.

    Speaking of violence everyone has to see today's New York Times with the killing of the Reuters newsmen by US forces in Iraq.

    Field you saw that disturbing video help me get others to watch it. There were over 1,000 thats right 1,000 comments on the article and video in the New York Times today, that's how disturbing this is.

    I believe everyone should see this, and especially those who want to get a glimpse of what these wars are really like;

    Agape I feel you I am hoping that maybe folks are moved as I have been for a long time to at least voice their dissent. Write a letter to a congressperson, sign a petition, complain about it at work, support a soldier who has dissented, bring it up as something to discuss or pray about at church attend the next anti-war rally or meeting.

    And agape this not just an affair of men many of our daughters are engaged in these wars and many of the daughters and women of Iraqis and Aghans are dying for no good reason.

    But do something! This is real life,(game is an ill chosen description) real human beings, real suffering, real dying, real criminality, real children even those doing the killing are going to be ruined for life, in our lifetime.

    This is not Nazi Germany 1942 this is the United States 2010. WE couldn't say anything about the holocaust and maybe folks lulled themselves into thinking well they deserved it or it was somehow justified.

    King may have been right when he said, "THERE COMES A TIME WHEN SILENCE IS BETRAYAL."

    And someone else said:

    "all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing"

    I think it behooves all those of conscience to let the record show before God and humanity that you were opposed to this thing.

    I don't think Philly can hold the title on Easter outfits (Easter being a pagan holiday and all...but I digress :)

    In the deep south these clothes mean an awful lot to the children...it may be the only time they get a new outfit to wear to church...and the clothes have some sort of pagan pseudo-Christian meaning attached to these clothes....

    In the grand scheme of things...I think the Easter clothes are better than teaching them about an Easter Bunny (who brings eggs???)

    And...

    In my church home I remember a sermon from the Pastor... GOING SLAP OFF... about women coming "up in the church with these hats on thinking they're better than the person they sit next too"...

    Needless to say...women wearing church hats was down and stayed down. Now it may be two or three of the older women who still wear their "crowns"...:)

    And...

    If the older woman's husband "looked" at the younger, finer cousin with shorts on...she could have just dumped some cold water on him :) Men are going to look...that's just what they do...:)

    Good one Trapped (lol) actually I am an unemployed one. I still write commentary on occasion for Black Agenda Report (BAR).

    I wrote a lot more before I got frustrated with not being able to talk about brother Obama without people going crazy. And BAR turned me off because they came off as kind of arrogant and were kind of impatient with its readers, who didn't figure it all out. I didn't want to get caught up in the backlash so I hung up my pen for a bit. But I am coming back with a vengeance.

    And yeah I have worn a lot of hats or should say wear a lot of hats. Journalist/preacher/politicalactivist/community activist/teacher

    Agape I know what you are talking about. My mother tried to cut a corner one Easter and get me a tailor made suit and it didn't work out so well --the tailor was a friend of my moms, she couldn't quite get the shoulders to stand up --and I caught the rath and ridicule of my peers.

    That wasn't all that new though since my poor behind was always behind on the latest styles and it left me to be ridiculed to no end.

    It taught me how to play the dozens better than most.

    So of course my opinion of all the Easter dressing up is don't waste your money. Jesus the Messiah rose so you didn't have to get all caught up in material things.

    When I say a game that men play I am saying that war is something invented by men...not women (although we are all complicit even if we are silent).

    And when I say "game"...it is a game played by the wits of men that will never go to a war...send their son to a war...or care what happens to the people that do go to a war.

    And...

    I advocate for people who have come back from either war that find they have no one to help them move through the system and achieve their goals. I have been doing this for 5 years now along with a friend of mine that happens to be a clinical psychologist. We are the people that see and deal with the affected persons that have been to war. War...killing people...seeing people killed changes a person forever...for the worse.

    And...

    I cannot in good conscious differentiate my way of helping between a person who chose to go to war and a person who did not. I don't sit in judgement of people...everyone has free will and the freedom to choose (if they are not in jail or prison).

    My job is to be of service where and when I am told by my God...and I do so happily :)

    I will say this...The American Counseling Association has researched the affects of women in combat (new for this war) and discovered that PTSD, TBI's, depression, suicide etc have higher percentages in women than men. It is attributed to the levels of testosterone in men which lead to deeper levels of aggression.

    So how you doing tonight anyway? :)

  27. mellaneous, I've always found BAR to rather arrogant in general, no different that Democracy Now or some folks I know in the Green Party -- pompous left-wing Tea Party wannabes too strident in their ideology to engage in honest discourse with others and too arrogant to realize that almost nobody cares what they think.

    But I would agree with agape, you're a talented and insightful writer. And I also agree that you can't really criticize Obama without attracting the fawning groupie-like Obama-holics or the nuerotic, irrational Obama-haters alike. Which is unfortunate, since Obama has many good and a lot of bad points and careful analysis, follow-up with smart campaign, could bring about a better government.

    I was just discussing with a young mother (white) with 2 young boys about how do you raise children in these days and times...

    You don't want to spoil your children with material things...but some things are just a necessity.
    I helped raise my nephew (now in grad school) and my niece (just turned 13) and I still have trouble navigating what to teach them and what not. Inevitably it all comes down to each unique situation that brings on a discussion. You have to throw in some old and mix it with the new.

    In a nutshell...you're mom was trying hard to let you look like all the other kids so you wouldn't get teased. Imagine...all she had to worry about then was you fitting in with an Easter suit. Moms now...Bless their hearts.

    What are the chances she will be able to get into Congress? Well...if she hooks up with Haley Barber she stands a good chance. But she cannot depend on the black vote...not enough blacks voters...her agenda on education...where was she when they spoke about merging an HSBC with a University in Mississippi...what is her position on health care with respect to Mississippi having one of the poorest health systems in the nation...she will definitely need those tea partiers...but that can be good or bad...the Repubs have not embraced them as a group as yet...

    As an aside I knew her when she came to DC and was worked (1980ish) for the late Jack Valenti...:) But I am sure she will not only not remember me, but will deny knowing me and will not receive a message from me...we have opposing POV's :p

(the multiple of them).First, Michelle was talking about country in the same way many proud Irish, Germans, etc, refer to their family's homelands... as in ancestry... and second, he did not attend the funeral that was arranged by the community. He DID go back to Hawaii for the funeral for the family. And, when he did, it was the same wingnuts who accused him of ONLY going to Hawaii to forge his birth certificate....

    Face it, those that hate Obama will believe anything negative about him, regardless of who is saying it because they need to justify that hatred.

    And, LOGIC should tell you that if our media LOVES anything, it is a juicy, personal scandal... As Bill Clinton and John Edwards has shown us, no one is immune, including the president or presidential hopefuls.

    So, that there are people who really believe he is a foreigner, hiding his foreign birth in this age of scandals being the collective favorite past time, is beyond all comprehension.

    Therefore, I would assert it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to believe this is true... what is far more plausible is white, hot hatred that clouds all reason, facts, logic and common sense. Is that clear enough for you??

    This is exactly what is going to be addressed formally in the courts with respect to what the "founding fathers" meant when they wrote this in the constitution. I have been hearing the arguments begin already. Strict constitutionalists say that if that were true...anyone could come to America and reap the benefits of what is doled out in America...this is what they will use against the peoples they want out...spanish speaking people.

    Your explanation of birthright citizenship is not quite correct. The gender of the parent granting citizenship is not important.

    First, he is covered under the Citizenship Clause of 14th Ammendment. This is not dependent upon the citizenship status of his parents, since he was born in Hawaii.

    "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

    Second, Obama is a citizen even if he was born outside the US. Whether that qualifies as "natural born" for election purposes would have to be determined by the Supremes. That, to the chagrin of the Birthers, ain't gonna happen.

    If one parent is a US citizen and the other parent is not, the child is a citizen if
    * the US citizen parent has been "physically present"[6] in the US before the child's birth for a total period of at least five years, and
    * at least two of those five years were after the US citizen parent's fourteenth birthday.


    All of this is beside the point ultimately, because the Birthers are peddling crocks of conspiracy theories. It would all be laughable were it not for the traction they have gained with the Fox News demographic. As H.L. Mencken famously noted, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

    I didn’t have a clue who UBM was but agreed with his postings. I clicked on his name and was directed to his blog. He had this blog along with others listed so I checked out your blog and have been visiting ever since.

    I don’t always agree with you but at times I’ve seen things from a different angle because of you and your posters. Damn, I miss reading UBM’s post. RIP.

However, he is reaping what he helped sow against his own black brother. Yup, he gets to feel what his black brother the President might have felt when they treated him in a hateful racist manner. And Tiger gets to feel and know that denouncing his blackness does not help him escape his black identity in America. He is still a black man in the white man's eyes and no words of denounciation or nothing else will ever change that.

    This is the modern day emasculation of black men. The plan is to strip them of their black manhood, humiliate, embarrass them, rob them of their humanity, and dignity just like they did during slavery. Some things stay the same, they've just learned to be a little more subtle and clever with it. History does repeat itself, if you let it.

    The problem with black folks is they don't know how to stick together. Every other group of people know how to do that when push comes to shove, but black folks. United we stand, divided we fall or should I say fail. However, blacks were programmed to act that way, and until they wake up and deprogram themselves, well, it is going to continue to be reruns but in a newer version.

  88. For most people older than thirty five, the birth certificate issued by the hospital is worthless. When my son was born over thirty years ago, we filled our forms at the hospital and sever weeks later we got a state issued birth certificate. That birth certificate looked very similar to the one the the state of Hawaii issued to the press. Everyone now has to have that state issued birth certificate to legally transact any business. That one you got when you were born from the hospital or written in a Bible isn't worth squat.

    When that old lady at one of the health care forums, talk about her birth certificate; she would not have been able to get a drivers license, passport, a job or even run for president using her original birth certificate. But still she insist it proves her citizenship with it.

    I think a lot of people are backtracking for their ignorance, for I am pretty sure that a lot of people who bought that bull about the birth certificate didn't think that Hawaii was a state or that it was a state when the President was born. So now they can't admit that and have to find another reason he is not a citizen.

So, not all good, and not all bad, kinda like one would expect from a politician.

The budget was balanced but don't get it twisted, the NATIONAL DEBT was still on the order of trillions of dollars from Reagan, Carter, Nixon's snafu taking us off the gold standard and the remnants of debt from the FDR and LBJ programmes- not to mention the WWII, Korean and Vietnam war funds.

    Balancing the budget and leaving a surplus is a set of terms that were misunderstood. Clinton did not magically erase our trillion dollars of national debt when he 'balanced the budget'. Balancing the budget simply means that, balancing the budget. The so called surplus was no surplus either.

I happened to watch morning Joe early this morning, and they were talking about how the government is actually making money off of the bankers now and the economy is turning around because of that stimulus. Manufacturing jobs are up and so are a lot of things. This is what they talked about this morning. So actually, the stimulus helped saved the economy and was needed to stop the depression.

They can get federal tax ID numbers and buy houses but the minute they are reported to immigration all of that goes out of the window. Imagine if you bought a house and worked your ass off twenty four seven. They let the loan get approved for your home and you are paying taxes each year. Then immigration comes seizes your property and deports you. That is disenfranchisement of the tallest order.

    Mexicans and Blacks are disproportionately represented in the prison system for NON VIOLENT CRIMES. As I said before the spheres of oppression in the USA lie in the prison industrial system.

    Once a felon is released, except in a couple of states he cannot vote. Ever. That rule in and of itself disenfranchises MILLIONS of people and will continue to do so until it is changed.

The bailouts increased the amount of money in the banks coffers then they turned around and increased the number of debt collection lawsuits they usually initiate. So the question should be asked, if the banks are making profits where are they coming from? FLEECING CONSUMERS via NSF and overdraft fees, via fees for maintaining a checking account with YOUR money, by charging humonguous interest rates on cards because the so called credit card reform that will soon kick in is pretty much impotent.

    Unless some politician like Ron Paul has the balls to demand an auditing of the FED and its removal from currency monopoly, what we are seeing will only be temporary.

    Until we can rid ourselves of our national debt, we will continue to see these cycles.

    mr - i am not unsympathetic to the plight of the mexican in Mexico and can understand the search for a better life. however, the price to accomodate them all is too high - a borderless country is no country. i do agree with u about the prison sys - the entire judicial sys is a hot mess. but u may want to check your assertion that only a few states allow convicted felons to vote again - felons may not be able to serve on juries and carry weapons but more than a few states allow voting rights restored almost automatically while other states first require a few hoops be jumped thru. in any event, i appreciate the civil dialogue.

    I feel more comfortable with Kucinich than I do Ron Paul who said in his book that blacks are animals and that Martin Luther King Day is "National Hate Whitey Day", and that Nelson Mandela was a communist terrorist thug. Ron Paul is instrumental in putting out and was distributing the white supremacist literature and a lot of the anti-government theories. In addition, Paul exhibits paranoid conspiracy driven anti-Semitic, Homophobic, racist views from the John Birch Society. Ron Paul is a dangerous man who hides behind a persona of a good decent man with strong political views, but he is anything but that.
