"Mass Appeal"

"But I'm so real to them it's scary And with my unique skills na you can't compare me And no we don't make wack tracks and all the suckers get pushed back when I'm kickin real facts I represent set up shit like a tent boy You're paranoid cause you're my son like Elroy And you'd be happy as hell to get a record deal Maybe your soul you'd sell to have mass appeal" ~Guru~

Sorry, I had to start this post with some Gang Starr lyrics. It's a sad day for hip hop indeed. Merging Jazz and Hip Hop? Yeah that worked. R.I.P. Guru.

I am going to use Guru's lyrics and the title of that classic Hip Hop track to focus on what I want to talk about: Mass appeal, and what some folks will do to get it. Some of you bloggers out here are trying hard to get it. You know who you are. And, some of you, already have it. But at what cost? Some of you can't wait to get on television and radio (you know who you are), and when you do, you can't wait to let the rest of us know about it. That's great if you blow up, but what are you going to do with your new found high profile? Just sell more ad space on your blogs for more money?

Hey, I am not mad at bloggers who use their blogs to get paid. Times are hard out here, so go get your hustle on. But don't just post shit with the bottom line on your mind. And please don't tell others how to run their blogs. I don't sell ad space because, frankly, I don't need the money. But that's just me. Don't send me a-mails asking about ads on my blog, telling me how I could be getting paid, or asking me to change the blog name so that it will sound more "main stream".
Producers from major cable network and radio program to the field:

"Mr. Field we would love to have you on, but frankly, the name of your blog might be offensive to some of our viewers."
"Mr. Field do you mind if the host just introduces you as attorney----- and not by your blog name? "

Other bloggers talking about the field:

"Field tolerates too much cursing and disrespect on his blog."
"The comments on his blog have really gone down."
"The intellectuals don't go there anymore."
"Field is too offensive with his posts."
"Field's blog is popular but there is just too much drama over there."

Yes, but field is saying exactly what he feels. And, for the most part, so are the people who comment in his blog. So as the kids like to say: "Do you".

Finally,- as if losing Guru wasn't enough- America lost a great civil rights champion and educator today. Dorothy Height was 98 years old, (now there was a lady with "Mass Appeal") and still she died too soon as far as I am concerned. She was a great American and a true field Negro.

The next time I see one of my black conservative friends I will have to ask them why I got a press release from Chris Van Hollen and the DCCC, but nothing from the RNC or any other republican group.

"DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the passing of Civil Rights Leader and former President of the National Council of Negro Women, Dorothy Height.

“For nearly half a century, Dorothy Height was a strong and tireless leader in the struggle for equality and human rights for all people. As the only woman serving at the highest level of the civil rights movement, Dr. Height helped shape every major achievement along the way.

“For 40 years she led the National Council of Negro Women, advocating for African American women. Dr. Height continued the fight for the rest of her life to ensure that our nation was a place where everyone, regardless of gender, race or background could achieve the American dream. We should all rededicate ourselves to building on the legacy she left behind.”

Wait. Maybe they issued something but they just didn't send it to me. Le me google the RNC, republicans, and Dorothy Height.........nope, nothing. It figures. I guess she didn't have "Mass Appeal" after all.

  13. Blinders this is the first time I am hearing about Dr. Benjamin Hooks. I've been so busy lately, and this is really the first day I've been able to take a break.

As for the civil rights leaders, it is a changing of the guard going on right now. Time for the young folks to make their presence known.

They were afraid of Malcolm X too, but in the end he became a speaker in demand even at some of those elite colleges.

    Dr. MeandMyMicroscope:

    Amen, for life!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Now, that you mention it Blinders, they've always been afraid of black men and women who spoke out against discrimination and racism. They were afraid of Dr. Martin Luther King, Megar Evers, Ida B. Wells, Maria Steward, and many more. Truth is a powerful weapon, it can hurt, but it can also break chains of oppression and set people free.

GURU was honestly ahead of his time. Without Jazzamatazz, the Roots wouldn't be playing Jimmy Kimmel and Erykah Badu would just be weird. Most of us would have never heard of MC Solaar, N'Dea Davenport or a lot of alt-hip-hop artists if we didn't cop Jazzamatazz.

And if you're a hood kid like me, the first time you heard "A Night in Tunisia" was as the loop to 'Manifest'.

As to black conservatives and a lot of net roots bloggers, Field true, tireless political action has been replaced by sound bites, irrational rhetoric (often on the right, but sometimes from the left) political balkanization and endless, shameless self promotion. Dorothy Height did more to fight for Black people than Tavis or either or Rev. Inc. have done in the last 30 years (Sorry, bu Messy Jesse has been riding MLK's coattails since the 70's). And her work for women's rights and the rights of all have certainly done more for the teabaggers than Saint Ronnie ever did.

  31. Your welcome Field, I knew it slipped your mind

    Granny,

I know all too well about them being afraid of outspoken black men and women. I do what I do because of the Civil Rights pioneers. My life would not be what it is had they not fought for me.

We have a lost generation that needs to be reminded about the hard work of our Civil Rights pioneers, so their work would not have been in vain. "Knowledge is Power" and empowering others with it is what makes a difference for change.

BTW: Dr. Hook's funeral will be televised live tomorrow at 11:00. WREG probably will stream it on their web site www.wreg.com.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Field, thanks man. I often spit lyrics when I'm in a good mood. Rhyming 'Take it Personal' in an elevator of uptight middle age white professionals cause many an eyebrow raised.

Anyway, I think MC Solar is really on some stuff if he wants us to believe that in his last moments on this side of glory, Guru would write a nasty middle finger of a letter to his former partner. Sorry, but that's not the last thing most people think about facing the almighty. That's like John Lennon, dying on the Manhattan streets telling Yoko -- "Tell Paul to go F** Himself" .

    @ Blinders:

I agree with EVERYTHING you wrote...but let's take it one step further....

THE APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

I was taught just as you probably were that we need to gain knowledge..and we did...my generation (baby boomers) are the most educated generation in America...

Now we have to tell GenerationX and the Millenia Generation that we have to go one more step up that ladder and begin applying all that we have been taught by the greats that came before us...and the greats that have written rhymes while amongst us...

    Blinders:

Amen. Today I was talking to a young lady who wanted me to help her with her paper. I was reading the assignment she was given that had to do with a research project in her class about immigration. When I looked at her paper and read the instructions, I noticed under each group of people they were listed as whatever their group was. For instance, Mexican American, Jewish American, Vietnamese American, etc., and told them to google that group under that name.

However, when it got to African Americans, it said google "slavery". Well, Blinders, you know me by now. Anyways, I said to the young lady, "hmmm...they seem to think that slavery is the only history that black people have. You do know that there is more to our history than slavery don't you?" She told me that a lot of young people do not know any of our history except for slavery because that is all they are taught in school. I gave a quick brief as I could black history lesson.

The reason I brought this up is because something else I noticed. That new program presented by Ancestry on television called "Who Do You Think You Are" caught my attention when they were introducing Emmett Smith and Spike Lee coming up segments compared to how they introduced the others. They said that they researched their slave roots-stressing "slave roots".

I don't know why folks try to make it seem like blacks had no history other than slavery in America. Because it was more to their history than slavery in America. Way more! And I found that out through doing my own family genealogy. If they want to be honest about it, more than black folks were slaves in America and for that fact practically all over the world.

  36. BTW, don't get me wrong because I am in no way ashamed of slavery being apart of our history. I am very proud of our history. Because in my opinion our slave ancestors were very strong people to endure what they had to endure back then. Most importantly they were able to survive it. Like they say "Only the strong survive".

However, there is way more to our history than slavery even back in those days.

  41. FN, you know, this post pretty much sums up why I consider yours to be the very best blog that the blogosphere has to offer. Your views on various topics are smart, intelligent, passionate, compassionate, angry, humorist and just overall needed. I remember the first time I ever came across your blog back in early '08 and I was hooked ever since.

Here's the thing: Rarely will you have an intellectual human being who will find the significance in both Guru and Dorothy Height. There are routine avenues being rode which speak of rap music/rappers being against everything that civil rights stood/stands for. That is the consensus.

Yet wouldn't it be promising if Dr. Height understood Guru and Guru understood Dr. Height, and everyone could focus their attention on that particular common ground?

Sure - arguments, debates, controversial remarks are sure to take place during such discussion. But, at the end of the day, I like to be able to walk away with an understanding that remains in my spirit. One which I could possibly apply towards other "divided" areas of life.

The kind of harmony that can only be defined from being out there in the field.

I resented it then and now when I witness Ali being shuffled around I imagaine Dorothy Height suffered this same indignity.

The MSM and the usual suspects in the political marketplace also exploit the death of famed civil rights leaders with overkill and tired soundbites of course it is easier for them to live in the safe past of dead Black icons. Progressive and assertive modern Black leaders who would rather focus on finance, science, enviormental concerns and foreign affairs are not news worthy for coverage for MSM. The safety net is always old time civil rights stuff for the MSM.

    My Dear Granny:

You mention "civil rights leaders" and how young people need to step up.

The fundamental question that I have for you is: Once FAVORABLE PEOPLE populate the establishment where YOU have assisted in their placement..........do you still struggle against the SEATS OF POWER that you once did when and if those elements of the standard of living that you seek are STILL "a dream deferred"?

Granny - please name one "civil rights violation" of ole that is NOT being violated WITHIN the Black community today?

    * "Do it your self justice" murder?
    * Revenge assaults for disrespect?
    * Forces of Suppression of academic instruction?
    * A group of conspirators who assault Black owned businesses who's attacks push them to insolvency

    NAME ONE Granny?

At what point do you DISTILL the essence of "White Supremacy" and realize that THE FORCES THAT STAND AGAINST YOU have no RACE, IDEOLOGY OR NATIONALITY? That your best interest as an ACTIVIST is to STRENGTHEN the masses so that they can join your fight against these FACELESS FORCES......even when they possess those who stand WITHIN the protected circle?

    ReplyDelete
  50.
Destructive Wingnut, at least you recognized Ms. Height. But why shouldn't I associate black conservatives with the RNC? I mean that is their political party, right?
Filled Negro:

I would have been more supportive of you if you looked out to the forces that have most influence upon our community - who, over the years have displayed words and actions that DISRESPECTED the cause of both Dorthy Height and C Delores Tucker - BOTH OF WHOM sought to uphold a high standard of dignity and womanhood and looked for THEM to E-MAIL YOU a note of APOLOGY for all that they have done.

More importantly a signed promise to CEASE AND DESIST against all future verbal assaults and acts of ignorance which are featured in "Best Buy" each Tuesday as albums and videos are put upon the shelves.

THIS would honor the memory of Dorthy Height, C Delores Tucker and Mary McLeod Bethune.

  53. Thrasher,
I don't believe that was true Dorothy Height. There are many prominent Civil Right leaders who went into oblivion which the media should have acknowledged.

I also think it would behoove the younger generation to know what exactly happened during the civil Rights movement and not marginalize it. So much of it wasn't done in the media eye and I think the folks you want recognized have contributed, they don't need the accolades of the media to be meaningful.

You missed my point I was lamenting about how the MSM perfers old civil rights leaders instead of new Black leaders who have different agendas..

America does not view us in other optics. We have been dormant and accepted our role as the civil rights , sports, entertainment people of the nation of course these roles are to limiting and we have been there done that...

Black folks have already created civil rights and human rights for America we must move on and start handling our own internal issues...I often wish we would never play sports, or engaged in entertainment we have dominated and conquered these fields..

That's cause this is the Field, not your fucking mama's house. I ain't here to play paddy-cake with you motherfuckers. I'm here to brawl. Bring it or go somewhere else, punk.
Field is too offensive with his posts.
Cause he ain't here to play neither! I swear to god, what is with these whiners? They act like a blog has gotta be cleaner that your mama's ass! It says "FIELD NEGRO" not "Field of soft fluffy flowers". Face the facts; y'all can't hang cause y'all weak bitches.
Field's blog is popular but there is just too much drama over there.
Yeah, a blog can be like middle school sometimes in the comments. Just like middle school- you ignore the bullshit and go on with your day. When that don't work, just like middle school, pull out yo gat and pistol whip an annoying mutherfucker. That'll learn a bitch.

  58. Love what you said. Field, you were one of the reasons that I started my own blog. I loved your style (not that I am copying you ;-) ) and I just wanted to talk a little ish as you will in my own space.

I admit I get a twinge of jealousy every now and then when I see some blogger blowing up yet here I am just saying what I want yet no extra coins. Then I remember I didn't start to blog because I wanted to make money, I did it because I had something to say. While I will never have a large readership after all I am a Black Chick in Maine, I do have some faithful readers and enjoy the chance to communicate with folks (primarily Black folks and living in Maine where we lack color, these online discussions often keep me sane).

Problem I have seen in recent years is everyone throws up a blog and starts working on the hustle and eventually they start making some coins but you can see the different in content.

I don't comment often here but I have been reading you for quite a while, hell you are one of the few bloggers that I am still reading daily.

I admit your comment section can get rowdy at times but by the same token I love that you give everyone a voice. No matter how foolish.

Keep doing what ya do Field!

Sometimes you have to crawl before you walk.

Stop being impatient, you young people's time is coming to shine sooner than you think. Right now a changing of the guard is taking place. Some young folks want to push the old civil rights workers out of the picture. "Hurry up move out the way", but I co-sign with what Hathor said because young people need to know exactly what happened during the civil rights movement. You see, sugar, racism is the same it's just adorned with some new accessories to dressed up and make it look new, but it's not.

All of what really went down they didn't broadcast on MSM. Nope! It was way more to the story than what you may have seen on tv or read about in books. In fact, that was the sugar-coated, watered down version.

Right now this day, those that wish to see your rights taken away from you who are longing for the days of picking cotten and Jim Crow are trying to ease that back in here on you. I know that you don't think that they are playing or just talking. Those people are serious than sickle cell anemia. They may have changed their methods in some ways, but baby believe me, us old people can smell it before it gets here.

Back in the day, before they passed the Jim Crow laws and all the other racist laws, some folks didn't think that they would get it passed or follow through with it either. Yeah right!

  61. BTW, you don't have to take my word for it. Just look around you and you'll see how it is playing out right before your eyes:

Schools are becoming segregated again. Militas, even some of those on the police force, and neo-nazi are nothing but an newer version of the klan and those old white neighborhood men, and law men who gathered together to lynch, beat, and burn black folks. People like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann are the newer version of white women who hollered rape, but only they are not using rape as their as their excuse now, it's the false pretense of the constitution somehow not being followed. That take back our country is the same old song they sung when they felt that too many blacks were beginning to prosper. The blacks are thugs, pimps, hoes, and the criminal element is the same song they sung when they were rallying up their troops to get Jim Crow started and worse so they could murder innocence blacks in all of the prior race riots and steal their property and possessions. Police brutality is nothing new, Judges like Roberts, nothing new... Raising the confederate flag, nothing new...Celebrating confederacy or racism is nothing new. They celebrate Cullen Baker to this day and he was an outlaw that went around murdering blacks at random. None of it is anything new. They are just using somewhat but not all different wording.

So now, for you young people that are in a hurry to shine, WAKE UP! Because they are doing the same things right before your eyes. Get up and speak up and fight back!

  62. Oh yeah, one more thing, the teabaggers are nothing more than a newer version of the mobs shouting racial slurs at those kids who tried to integrete Central High and the lynch mob spectators who watched and celebrated the lynching of black people. Their the ones that took pictures by black corpse as they swung from a tree.

Granny - I have a self-imposed limit on how much I will attack you. (I love you and there is nothing that you can do about it).

It would be fantastic if you could make a list of the TOP 5 THREATS TO BLACK PEOPLE IN 2010 and you document where the FEAR OF THE RETURN OF JIM CROW fits into this list.

    COTTON PICKING?
I just read a book where Fidel Castro (in 1986) talked about how FARM AUTOMATION has reduced the need to ensnare people from the cities to go into the farmlands to harvest sugar cane from a high of 300,000 workers down to 7,000.

Now Granny - why LOGICALLY would someone seek to REINTRODUCE manual labor in the cotton picking process having been motivated by RACIAL HATRED.

In truth Granny - I am more disappointed that your fellow travelers on this blog will not REFUTE YOUR POINT as they too recognize the maniacal foundations of such a claim.
Those people are serious than sickle cell anemia. They may have changed their methods in some ways, but baby believe me, us old people can smell it before it gets here.
Amazing.
Granny - I choose to no longer get into a "Prove That Its Racism" / "Disprove That Its Racism" tit for tat. INSTEAD I leave it up to all reasonable people to enumerate the THREAT from these external forces that you promulgate FEAR about.

Tell me Granny - if these forces are scheming to cut your throat due to racial hatred and resentment of your increased RIGHTS.....WHY do these need a series of LAWS TO BE PASSED (or rolled back) before they commence their murderous exploits?

Granny - WHERE ARE THE ASSAULTS upon Black people by these Tea Party Militias?

Where are the Black communities who's iron bars upon their doors and windows is to keep this "Sickle Cell Anemia-like Threat" from assailing us?

Funny how "Take Back Our County" became a RACIST charge except a few years ago:
    http://www.amazon.com/Take-Back-Party-Country-Future/dp/074327752X

I saw an Anti-War Protest video from several years ago in which the White woman protester yelled "Take Back Our Country" with a sign saying the very same thing.

Mellenous you exposed yourself yesterday as you keyed in upon MY response to BET Uncut's IGNORANCE in calling me a monkey. I actually could care less about his assaults. Instead I WATCH OTHERS and note how they respond.

For you - it was less offensive to your sensibilities that he used such ignorance. Instead it was the FOCUS of his ignorance that you enjoyed the most.

Try as you might, Mellaneous - you don't hover above the level of credibility and integrity of any other. You show who you are routinely. Don't fool yourself.

IN 2009 A REAL BLACK MALE WAS MURDERED IN A "SCHOOL INTEGRATION" CASE GONE AWRY

CHICAGO: Derrion Albert - Murdered As People From Fenger went to school with people from Altged Gardens

Despite the DEADLY RESULTS - Granny and others don't see this conflict between EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS who were forced to go to school together in the same way as if ONE SIDE WERE WHITE.

Ironically I am said to show "Black people in a bad light". The truth is that the people who assume that BLACK PEOPLE ARE INFERIOR do as they accuse me. There is NOTHING that these group of boys who were fighting could EVER do to reach the level of threat that a WHITE MOB in front of a school has registered in the mind of Granny.

I don't think that CF understands the meaning of "inappropriate." He really doesn't have any sense of shame. He has no sense of solemnity. Doesn't have sense enough to know when he should sit something out.

So now today he wades in, peeing all over the works and good deeds and human rights work, of Dorothy Height and even Mary McCleod Bethune pretending that they side with him, in his small minded assertion that the victim is the problem, rather than the victimizer.

He really is a small, shameless, shill and coarse minded, sycophant, for his so-called free market, capitalist gods. Otherwise he would not have written this, which actually dishonors and distracts from the memory of a great woman:

"I would have been more supportive of you if you looked out to the forces that have most influence upon our community - who, over the years have displayed words and actions that DISRESPECTED the cause of both Dorthy Height and C Delores Tucker - BOTH OF WHOM sought to uphold a high standard of dignity and womanhood and looked for THEM to E-MAIL YOU a note of APOLOGY for all that they have done.

More importantly a signed promise to CEASE AND DESIST against all future verbal assaults and acts of ignorance which are featured in "Best Buy" each Tuesday as albums and videos are put upon the shelves."

THIS would honor the memory of Dorthy Height, C Delores Tucker and Mary McLeod Bethune."

-This must be a clumsy attempt to rewrite history.

-How else can he explain trying to tie Dorothy Height and even Mary McCleod Bethune to his misdirecting campaign to blame all violence on young black people, particularly young black people who produce HIp Hop music?

-Not only is it wrong to somehow blame violence in the hood, on TV or the radio, or some rap song it has no basis in truth.

-Negroes are killing one another cause they are pissed off and they are killing the closest folks they can take their anger out upon. They are pissed because unlike CF they know they are playing in a rigged game and that the chips are stacked against them.

-Its not rocket science, if you would actually read about the pyschology of the oppressed instead of parrotting something you have read by haters of black folks you would have a better understanding of inner city crime.

-You shameless, dimwitted, little lost human being, you are the one who brings dishonor to the name of Dorothy Height, by trying to insinuate that she saw youth violence as the number one cause of what ails Black America.

-Dorothy Height along with Mary Mcleod Bethune spent their lives trying to improve the conditions of Black folks, by insisting that the system of racism lift its foot off the heads of black folks.

-They were annoyed with black criminality and black self hatred - which you display a lot of on this blog- but they understood its origin and did not give into the temptation to blame the victim.

-Height fought for both the liberation of women and black folks. She was a real fighter.

-This is what Height said in an interview in the Detroit Free Press in 2008: "I’m still working today to make the promise of the 14th Amendment of equal justice under law a reality."

-She understood that black folks still were being discriminated against in the courts of law and by the so-called law on the streets with their racial profiling and police brutality.

-Yet you continously insist that this is not a problem, yet our people are slam dunked everyday.

-You,according to your system accomodating, big business glorifying, discrimination justifying analysis, disagree with Ms. Height in almost everyway. You think things are just fine. All that's needed is to get rid of a few Negroes and everything will be right with the world.

    - Unlike you, she didn't think a system that consistently discriminated against women and blacks was a system that should be conserved, but changed.

-Please stop pissing on the grave of this late GREAT WOMAN OF OUR STRUGGLE! Because you wouldn't have been worthy to hold her cane!!

    Your above paragraph is telling.
I spoke of the DIGNITY of these great women. It would be logical for you to apply my complements about these great women based on the actual framing of my statement instead of what you WANTED ME to say.

Funny how mere words mentioned by some Tea Partier can have you and Granny FEARING that some murderous troop is planning to shoot up the Black community. YET when you read various Hip Hop Voice Of The Street Pirates who brag about their past drug dealing - NO AMOUNT OF THREATS OF MURDER contained in their actual music that is distributed to MILLIONS will cause you to see them as an EQUAL threat.

You keep trying to SELL US on the notion that the thug who MURDERS someone tomorrow was pushed in that direction by SOCIETY. Unfortunately YOU and the policies that YOU SUPPORT are not seen as "SOCIETY".

Whereas the Christian merely needs to BELIEVE IN JESUS AS HIS SAVIOR to receive salvation - in the perverted societal religion pontificated by Mellenous - one receives salvation for their murderous anarchical behavior by believing that THE WHITE MAN and the Capitalistic system hath made him do his deeds.

Logically this assailant of the community receives salvation in the eyes of Mellaneous when he JOINS MELLANEOUS' BAND, agreeing to fight the external fight against the windmills that Mellaneous gives chase to.

Mellaneous the most fraudulent part of your disposition is that in your perverted view - where the WHITE FOLKS NO LONGER LIVE in abundance and FAVORABLE IDEOLOGICAL FORCES now control the establishment - the resulting order has shifted from "BOOT ON THE NECK" racism over to BENIGN NEGLECT. Those who LEFT YOU ALL ON YOUR OWN have now violated the NATIONAL SOCIAL CONTRACT that they are bound to with you.

YOU are not going to mention about how your greed for POWER - you failed to market a viable ECONOMIC/ACADEMIC/LAW & ORDER platform. I told you before that the WORST condition for the bigoted Progressive-Fundamentalist is to BE ALL ALONE BY HIMSELF. His IDEOLOGY now the primary pillars of the edifice he now lives within.

As a bigot he will TRY HARDER to retain his ideology, failing to note the CHANGE in requirements put upon him.
He expects that no one will notice that the places where he has WON - he still does not accept accountability for the condition of the eco-system or the human resources. He blamed and protested against the previous occupants of the seats that he now holds. Now he reaches beyond them to continue their struggle.

WHY do you BLAME THE TEA PARTY THUG who might beat up a Black person tomorrow. Please show some INTELLECTUAL HONESTY and tell me why the FIST against the head of the BLACK MAN thrown by HIM is SUPERIOR to the fist thrown by a poor Black in Benton Harbor against a fellow Black.

NON-WHITE WHITE SUPREMACY and BLACK INFERIORITY is at the CORE of your perverted line of thinking.

Anyone who proudly assigns the banner "The Least Of These" upon otherwise HEALTH AND EQUAL BLACK PEOPLE in 2010 need to be stripped of his ability to PROCLAIM that he speaks on MY RACE'S BEHALF. Instead he needs to be given a desk job behind the scenes.

Nothing dishonest about my assertion CF and the only real fraud on this blog is you. I mean really, who in their right and honest mind really believeS that inner city violence just comes from thin air.

-It is you that PERVERTS THE TRUTH ON THIS BLOG ON A REGULAR BASIS. What in the world are you talking about?

-Are we witnessing your meltdown? I never mentioned anything about any Tea party folks.

-My contention that your assertion that, doing something about hip hop music would somehow honor the memories of Dorothy Height and Mary Mcleod Bethune was dead wrong and actually dishonorable.

    Here are your words:

"More importantly a signed promise to CEASE AND DESIST against all future verbal assaults and acts of ignorance which are featured in "Best Buy" each Tuesday as albums and videos are put upon the shelves.

THIS would honor the memory of Dorthy Height, C Delores Tucker and Mary McLeod Bethune."

-Whats wrong with you? Can't you even put forward a straight ahead argument, without pretending someone said something they didn't and without being obtuse and just downright confusing?

-I am really starting to believe you are some kind of plant, because we can't get a straight discussion from you.

-One day you are a "conservator" today you pretend that you never said it. One day you defend the system then you claim you have no position.

-It is really YOU that folks are complaining about when they talk about the intellectual level of the blog falling down.

-I mean if you are going to continuously run your yap, it would seem that you would try to make sense.

-Your last two posts in particular make no sense.

-And why do you have to take on EVERYTHING that folks say?

-If you were really knowledgeable, I could understand it, but you turn everything into a discussion about black youth violence.

-Man don't you get tired, or are you really getting paid?

-Shssh enough already. From now on I am only going to answer your most outrageous assertions, just in case someone is of the mistaken impression that you know what you are talking about.

-Conversation does have one basic requirement CF and that is that we are at least speaking in a manner that can be understood.

-Intelligibility is a requirement for discourse.

-If you can't do it, just say so. Because you are starting to come across as just plain PITIFUL. I am almost embarrassed for you.

-You say you are a successful technician of some sort. Good then do that, but man know your limitations. Writing and trying to express yourself is not your forte.

-All you are doing is giving comfort to the enemies of human progress. But I guess you are too are an enemy of human progress. At the very least you are a MISANTHROPE!

-WE have real problems in our community and as you are so quick to point out -its about the only thing that you are clear about -there is too much violence in our inner cities.

-Ultimately, we have to solve the problem at its source like any problem or disease is cured. Fixing the symptoms hasn't cured the problem. And incidentally you never offer a cure you suggest more of the same.

You know I love you brutha but listen to Granny.

Whatever we 30 and 40 something black middle class professionals strategize, endeavor or accomplish, we are standing on the shoulders of the folks who organized, agitated and even were hosed, beaten and lynched in order for us to have the priveleges we enjoy today.

I agree that we need new strategies and methods to deal with the present issues facing black America and America in general.

However if we are not detailing specific ideas or solutions while dismissing our elders, then we're just mouthing off.

What is the new route for black political energy in this millenium?

Especially in light of the fact that many of us have assimilated into the middle class mainstream and share many of the concerns of the larger society.

One factor for sure is that regardless of our individual accomplishments and character, conservatives still drape the mantel of dysfunction and criminality around the neck of every black American.

    An obstacle, still.

Or was it that you have the freedom to go where you want to go, vote, work in the field of you choice, or hold positions in politics, or other jobs, other than be limited to and doing janitorial work or pushing the elevator button, chauffeuring, or some other menial job. Or was it that you don't have to go through the back door, or you can eat where ever you want to eat, and drink out the same fountains? Maybe, it that you have the freedom to voice your opinion is that it? Or is it that you can live where you want to live? Or could it be that you can go in the library, check out a book? Please tell me what condition we left you in? Because I just don't get it, please help me understand what mess we left you in.

I believe there is shame in the statement you made regarding granny. It only showes the lack of education that you have recieved concerning the past.

Rember this the HOLOCAUST OF SLAVERY AND THE STENCH THAT WAS LEFT BEHIND CALLED SEGREGATION WERE THINGS THAT YOUR ELDERS FOUGHT AGAINST, DON'T TAKE THAT FIGHT FOR GRANTED.

BE RESPECTFUL FOR AGE IS NOT SOMETHING WE ARE PROMISED, BUT WITH EACH DAY WE HOPE IT BRINGS SOME SENSE OF WISDOM.

READ, EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOU WILL SEE THAT KNOW ONE IS ASKING TO BE WORSHIP, BUT TO BE RESPECTED IS ANOTHER THING.

I impacted David because I was honest and true with him..I knew he resented his costume wearing kiss kissin game he played with white folks to get a job and really speak his truths..I know he hated being the token negro for white jewish writers who sold out Black folks in our nation decades earlier to get the license and privledge of being white..

I know his battles were hard because he knew the color of his hue gave him unearned value and privledge...David enjoy the candid truth I shared with him becuase I allowed him to take off his mask after 20 years of your cum ba ya bullshit you gave him nothing to die on..

Nor have I ever believed that any white person was superior over me or any other human being for that fact. You got your people mixed up. Tell me when I have I ever asked for permission to live in my entire life. Sweetheart, I do not have a slave mentality. My mind is FREE!

Nevertheless, you have your misguided beliefs and I don't mind stepping aside and letting you keep them. Nor am I the type of person to sit back and accept disrespect from anyone white, black, yellow, or whatever, especially when I know I did you no wrong.

"You failed in creating a succession of principal black leaders"

Our current President is not a principal leader????

To say nothing of the thousands of black elected officials, agency heads, civic leaders, academics, and corporate managers?

"you failed in understanding your offspring did not give a fuck about white folks paradigms and your myopic view of what is revelant and matters."

Once again I am interrupting the late night lovefest, but football calls. If you have yet to watch the Bayern-Lyon match then I would recommend you save time and catch the highlights. Bayern won, 1-0, but wasted at least 5 other opportunities. The only real excitement was when Ribery was sent off on a straight red.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programme.

You are RIGHT Melleneous - it operates on a SCHEDULE.

In the warm-weather months the blood letting is exacerbated.

You see - Mellenous - taking a card from your Black Inferiority meme - Black people are like PIT BULLS.

I read a tale in which during Slavery Time - the time period the racist White folks used to blind fold two Black males and put them into a ring and have them beat each other to a pulp for entertainment purposes. (Slave Boxing: http://www.academon.com/Essay-Slave-Boxing/87945)

As Granny said - the RACISTS have changed their ways. Now they get the "Least Of These" Blacks to BOX OURSELVES all without giving us a ring with ropes around it. You see Mellenous the enter GHETTO is the Boxing ring and we are made to FIGHT EACH OTHER. The blind fold is that we can't see the ropes around the ring.

I am going to take a new disposition on this blog. I am going to be the biggest BLACK INFERIORIST around. My goal is to move to the RIGHT SIDE - where you stand.

    Stay tuned.

BTX 3 Hey thanks for the props lol.

CF --really, is that you STILL TALKING ABOUT NOTHING?

Thrasher-- I was reading your posts trying to figure out where you are coming from. Sounds like you got something to say.

I feel you on Obama and the idea that black folks don't have to go Eurocentric. But I also understand what Granny is saying when she warns about our enemies and the ruling class pushing back against the real gains that were made during the civil rights movement.

And no matter how anyone wants to characterize it real gains were indeed made.

Sounds like you (Thrasher) have been on the front lines in some capacity. That works but what's with the harsh put downs of granny? You seem well versed enough to make your point without being disrespectful.

I mean you have a point, she could be 25 year old midget. But what if she is who she says she is, if that's the case I believe she has earned the right to speak her mind without being disrespected. And even if she does talk like you should listen I think she has earned your patience as well.

But maybe its something about Field's blog, you know we got, pompous Negroes, Italians, nationalists, liberals radicals, haters,Hip hop fans, a self hating lunatic, middle class Negroes, sharp sisters, old folks, cussing, disrespect and we got.....

There was no large grocery store for 900,000 residents, which he saw as a problem for those people who didn't have transportation or means to travel to the suburbs. That would also mean that poor Black people would once again pay a Black tax, in that what groceries they could buy locally would be much more expensive.

  154. THANK YOU MELLANEOUS!!

You told me all that I needed to know about you and your piousness.

By watching you and Thrasher - without me as a common attack point - you told me a lot about yourself.

With Thrasher attacking Granny you provided a mild "corrective" response but still his time in the "Struggle" was enough for you to continue to converse with him.

Here is my analysis. Thrasher is IGNORANT. You know this and I do as well. There is nothing that he has posted on this board that is a THREAT to you. A threat from the stand point of him coming after YOUR IDEOLOGICAL POSITION.

Thrasher is more akin to that foul mothered young male from Benton Harbor that YOU would like to take under your wing and CHANNEL his anger and ignorance toward YOUR interests. You are thus able to look past his offenses.

Mellaneous you had the audacity to make the case that the claims of the reduced INTELLECTUAL level on the blog is directly attributable to ME. This told me again about the credibility of your judgment. Let's pretend that this was the POPULAR sentiment. You didn't bother to do anything to QUALIFY this claim with reference to my content. Again Thrasher (and others) provide a perfect backdrop to compare my arguments and observations against. YOU DON'T NEED TO do this. You work on POPULARITY.

I have never disrespected Granny, Jody or MR despite our frequent dust ups. It is clear to me that you are a creature of IDEOLOGICAL UNIFORMITY - "Standing on the GOOD SIDE or the EVIL SIDE" than you allow the repulsive actions or words of one of your potential allies to cause you to repudiate them.

Can you imagine your response if I initiated a statement telling Gregory or "Mack Is Lying" to go purchase a doll and screw themselves? OH I forgot Thrasher has never proclaimed himself a CHRISTIAN nor CONSERVATOR. If you don't label yourself to Mellaneous it appears that HE WON'T HOLD YOU UP TO ANY STANDARD THEREIN.

If you chafe his skin IDEOLOGICALLY though, fear not HE WILL LABEL YOU.

This is the world of the "Yoda-like Man On The Mountain Of Moral Supremacy" named Mellaneous.

If this is all a joke to you your sense of humor is poor.

To be foolish is one thing to be a fool is another. Which are you being.
