I would have posted earlier tonight, but I just stopped laughing long enough to actually try and post something. Why was I laughing, you say? Well I will tell you why: While riding in my car earlier today, I heard a host on some local talk show wonder out loud about the number of "AFRICAN AMERICANS PLAYING ON THE BRITISH SOCCER TEAM" ???????? Let that sink in a minute.........Yep, he really said that. See why I was laughing? Help us lawd!!!!
Anywhoo, I don't really want to get a rep as a racism chaser...... and if it wasn't a slow news night I wouldn't even post the following story. But someone sent it to me and I thought it would be interesting to see how different people react to the same video.
It's another case of the po po gone wild in yet another urban outpost of A-merry-ca. Now, to be fair, being a po po anywhere is a tough job, so please believe that I understand when they go close to the line sometimes. Still, I don't think they should ever cross that line. No matter how stressed they are.
So now comes the following story from my man Dr. Boyce over at AOL Black Voices: (I swear this man has better Air R's than I do.)
"I am not quite sure what to make of the ruffled YouTube video that is now scouring the web out of Paterson, New Jersey. In the video, the woman filming, who mentions that her mother works in the sheriff's office, is taping a New Jersey police officer holding a black man to the ground. The man clearly has his hands behind his back and appears to be restrained. As the woman videos the incident from a distance, the officer inexplicably grabs the man, turns him around and puts pepper spray into his eyes. He appears to do it twice...."
Dr. Boyce has obviously made up his mind. After seeing the video, how about you?
African Americans playing for England? Geez. Tells you how little that guy knows about "football".
ReplyDeleteI was more shocked at seeing Ashley Cole in the lineup for England, not because of the color of his skin but because he's not injured for once.
"While riding in my car earlier today, I heard a host on some local talk show wonder out loud about the number of "AFRICAN AMERICANS PLAYING ON THE BRITISH SOCCER TEAM" ????????"
ReplyDeleteI am sure he meant Blacks, in general. Not everybody knows about soccer. In fact, I would wager that quite a few Americans don't know a damn thing about it. So.. Field, are you going to educate us ignoramuses about whether there are any Blacks on that soccer team? It sure would be an interesting piece of info. BTW, do Jamaicans play soccer?
What the cop did to the black man in Patterson, NJ was far more respectful than what happen to Oscar at a Bart station in Oakland. BTW, the policeman who killed him will probably get off. Such is the life of Black men in America.
Black folks should face the truth about the value of their lives: "Blacks are the most despised race and are throw-away lives in America".
Well, at least the cop in NJ didn't shoot him in the back. They are more considerate of Blacks in Patterson, NJ than in Oakland, CA.
Okaaaay, I will try this again: "African Americans on the British soccer team"....
ReplyDeleteAnd this is where our hidden biases comes into play, because somehow I excuse R.J., but Anon, I do not excuse you.
"I heard a host on some local talk show wonder out loud about the number of "AFRICAN AMERICANS PLAYING ON THE BRITISH SOCCER TEAM" ?"
ReplyDeleteWhat's so funny Field, didn't you also know that all black people in the Carib talk with Jamaican accents? Someone once found out that I was from the United States V.I. and asked me if I have a Jamaican accent. I guess that made sense.
Goes to show how much thought and consideration others don't have for black people outside of Africa. All black people outside of Africa will be called African Americans because we are one big black entity, no need for distinguishing of culture nor nationality.
For me on the flip side, the United States V.I, is like 15 minutes away from Puerto Rico, but I have a hard time battling ignorant American mainland retailers online. While they ship to P.R, they don't want to ship to the United States V.I. because they consider the area foreign" or "International". If they only know that I am also American born, and I usually travel to the US Mainland with just my V.I. divers license. Sigh.
Crazy, there's people from everywhere in England nowadays. "The Clash" recorded a song called White Riot in the '80s, worth a listen. Hope America doesn't go the route of empowering Islam. They want to open the Ground Zero Mosque 10 year after 9/11, no symbolism there, no sir...
ReplyDeleteWay off topic: Field, do you know who recorded a reggae song putting Religion on trial? szpork
"Okaaaay, I will try this again: "African Americans on the British soccer team"...."
ReplyDeleteDid you know that some African American basketball players have dual citizenships and play on European teams? What about playing ootball in Canada? Are you saying their are no American quarterbacks or football players playing in the Canadian leagues? Get real.
African Americans who LOVE soccer will go around the world to play for another country. It's not impossible.
La~Audio, it must be your accent that throws them. But wait, they speak Spanish in PR. :)Oh well.
ReplyDeleteMexico hired a coach that couldn't speak Spanish, he last more that a year. szpork
ReplyDelete"Did you know that some African American basketball players have dual citizenships and play on European teams? What about playing ootball in Canada? Are you saying their are no American quarterbacks or football players playing in the Canadian leagues? Get real.

Ok Anon,whatever you say.
Let me leave this one alone.
Folks already think that I am an asshole.I want so much to be loved.
Field, when I'm on the phone in need of service from the mainland US, I try to speak "proper", they usually think I'm white, and I get better service that way. That question came to from a mainland "scholar" Union Arbitrator through an email. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnony 12.01, you're trying to back peddle with a technical argument to do damage control. Just admit that you didn't "get it" the first time. It happens to the best of us, we are all human.
Field, "Folks already think that I am an asshole.I want so much to be loved."
ReplyDeleteThat's not true. Everybody loves you. So avoid falling into the self-pitying hole. It's hard to get out, just ask Maria. Be strong, like brother CF.
i usually charge for my uplifting words, but because I love you, this one is free. Now, don't you feel better?
LA, "Anony 12.01, you're trying to back peddle with a technical argument to do damage control. Just admit that you didn't "get it" the first time. It happens to the best of us, we are all human."
ReplyDeleteI "got it" the first time. That is why I led my comment with, "I am sure he meant 'Blacks, in general'."
"i usually charge for my uplifting words, but because I love you, this one is free. Now, don't you feel better?"
ReplyDeleteI do.
Now if only Destructive Wingnut loved me; life would be perfect.
"What's so funny Field, didn't you also know that all black people in the Carib talk with Jamaican accents? Someone once found out that I was from the United States V.I. and asked me if I have a Jamaican accent. I guess that made sense."
ReplyDeleteI laughed my ass off when I read that!
Allyuh fuhget dat every West Indian live near Jamaica which is in Africa or whuh? Marn pleeeze! Is only tree island dem dong dey!
I's a Trini, an I know whey mih a talk 'bout.
First of all Field, white people are DUMB! The cloest I can figure, the white guy was thinking about an American Werewolf in London. NO, that's a movie, I have no idea how I can reason him other than DUMB. LOL
ReplyDeleteSecondly, police officers are DUMB! With all the videos out there, police officers are still ASSULTING people. DUMB, you would think they would discuss this with officers during Roll Call.
"Now if only Destructive Wingnut loved me; life would be perfect."
ReplyDeleteI'll see what I can do. But don't blame me if things don't work out. This could be tougher than cleaning up the Gulf...it might take some time. But "keep hope alive."(Don't you just love Jesse?)
"Allyuh fuhget dat every West Indian live near Jamaica which is in Africa or whuh? Marn pleeeze! Is only tree island dem dong dey!
ReplyDeleteI's a Trini, an I know whey mih a talk 'bout."
Saaay Whaaat?
"Allyuh fuhget dat every West Indian live near Jamaica which is in Africa or whuh? Marn pleeeze! Is only tree island dem dong dey!
ReplyDeleteI's a Trini, an I know whey mih a talk 'bout."
LOL Rippa, wha wrong wid dem buddy? Ah guess dey tink we all is one. An is a good ting we, an allyuh hav a sense a-humor bout it. LOL
What's interesting, more of the islands near mine could sound closer to having a somewhat Trinidadian dialect than they would a Jamaican. if anything Antiguans could almost sound like Jamaicans. Then there are the islands in between which have various non-english creole dialects, they are on page of their own.
"What's so funny Field, didn't you also know that all black people in the Carib talk with Jamaican accents? Someone once found out that I was from the United States V.I. and asked me if I have a Jamaican accent. I guess that made sense."
ReplyDeleteIn case you didn't know it, Jamaicans are all over the place. If they can make it to Philly, they can make it to the VI.
So, by logic and reason, do you have a Jamaican accent or is it a P.R. accent? :) Pick one because there is no such thing as an American Virgin Island accent. Come clean, LA.:))
Field,
ReplyDeleteThe trolls are out tonight. It looks like CF's sockpuppets are just not that clever. Football is not the only thing they don't understand, it seems.
Great result for the US team, bad for the English, even though it was a draw. If Greene were a Colombian he would be applying for asylum as I type this. However, since he is English, he will just have to live the rest of his life being reminded of what can only be described as the most bizarre goalkeeping cock up in recent memory.
Regards.
Dr. Boyce has obviously made up his mind. After seeing the video, how about you?
ReplyDeleteHey Filled Negro:
NOTHING TO SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG!!!!
Do you notice some thing about yourself Filled Negro?
Cop gets MURDERED in Maryland while chasing down a person who skipped out on paying at a restaurant and we hear NOTHING on the "Filled Negro blog". (Except for when I MAKE MENTION of this and then get attacked by UpTomSteve and Maria).
Yet when a person who gets arrested for molesting some legal statute in Patterson NJ - its gets front page mention as if this person was "Barack Obama having received an 'Obama Spook' email from a Republican".
Filled Negro if we were to make a chart with "Police Violations" on one side and "Street Pirate VIOLATIONS Of The Community" on another the later would take up 5 times the space for tick marks.
While you say that you are pursuing your expectations that police should be held to a certain STANDARD OF BEHAVIOR this merely masks the truth and our main flaw: You KNOW NOT how to craft a COMMUNITY CULTURE by which young males that SHOULD BE put on the path of RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP can be prevented from becoming STREET PIRATES. With Street Pirates you AFFIX NO STANDARD OF BEHAVIOR upon them and they LIVE DOWN TO your expectations every time.
The trolls are out tonight. It looks like CF's sockpuppets are just not that clever. Football is not the only thing they don't understand, it seems.
ReplyDeleteAh Gregorian Chant brings me up before I even set foot on this message thread. I'll take that as a sign of respect.
Could you define for me what a "Troll" is?
I live with a Jamaican woman who has been watching soccer all day long. Though I just can't understand WHY someone would bother watching this sport - I have learned over the years to KEEP CERTAIN OPINIONS TO MYSELF. (Don't say NUTHIN bad about Jamaica either).
As messed up as beating someone who is restrained is, there is another matter that is of concern. It is becoming more common among the states to make it illegal to tape/film whatever, the cops while they're on duty. Just google it.
ReplyDeleteThat is some messed up $%^&/!
There will be a time when we won't see these things happening, it will be the cops' word against the victim's.
good lord. i've never read Boyce before, but i'll say this much: i won't complain about the trolls here again. yikes, what an awful place (boyce's, that is).
ReplyDeletepolice beating down people is just too common. of course, nothing will be done about it until they start beating down white people in the suburbs. which they are starting to do way more often than they used to, thanks to the last few years of increasing militarization of our police forces via Fatherland security grants and suchlike. my family has long been part of law enforcement and the justice system, so i feel confident when i say that i don't like the trend most police departments seem to be taking in hiring and retention. there are many more "bad apple" cops today than there used to be, and the code of silence about them is stronger than ever.
of course, nothing will be done about it until they start beating down white people in the suburbs
ReplyDeleteChicago Dyke:
Are WHITE PEOPLE your reference standard or something?
In Chicago, for example, the balance of Black people VOTED FOR the present establishment order. Why do you need for White folks in Elmhurst IL to be beaten for this to impact Chicago - an otherwise independent city?
What if the WHITE FOLKS in Elmhurst have strong police/community relations?
What if there are community events that allow them to get to know each other?
What if most of the police come from the very same community and thus "to beat a citizen is to beat themselves"?
Do you see that even in "political victory" where favorable forces have control over the key institutions you and others still CHASE?
Is it even possible to be satisfied with this disposition?
Your opening brings to mind a question my BF posed to me after Lady Diana's death. He wondered if blacks were as upset about her death as people in general were.
ReplyDeleteWell, I told him that news reports showed black people in England crying just as hard as everyone else. "Well, those are British subjects," he said. "I'm talking about African Americans. Are they upset or just think she's just some rich bitch who died."
I pointed out to him that there are plenty of black people (AfAms) who were upset. As a matter of fact, one of my daughter's girlfriends called the house in the middle of the night over Diana as if there had been a death in he own family.

Sharon:
I noted that Mother Theresa died the same day (or time frame) as did Diana and her death did not have as much celebrity appeal despite their differing positions in life.
This is what disturbed me.
Gregory, all those great players in England and they can't find a decent gaolkeeper?
ReplyDeleteStill, even with the soft goal, England should have won that game. Howard, the A-merry-can goalie, came up huge.
BTW, is it just me or did the South Koreans look awesome?
"Filled Negro if we were to make a chart with "Police Violations" on one side and "Street Pirate VIOLATIONS Of The Community" on another the later would take up 5 times the space for tick marks.

Please folks, don't light a match; the Destructive Wingnut's straw men might burn down the joint.
Yes Farman, it seemed the man was already restrained, but hey, he was just another "street pirate", so who cares about his rights.
Field,
ReplyDeleteGoalkeeping is a chronic problem with the English team. I have no idea why. I thought James was going to start yesterday, not that he would have been better than Greene. Back when James was keeping for Liverpool we used to call him "Calamity James".
Just finished watching the Ghana-Serbia match. The Black Stars made history in an exciting match. First African team to win in the first African WC.
The South Koreans are almost a "forgotten" team, often underestimated. We shall see what happens when they face a better team but I could see them making the quarters, with a bit of luck.
Germany plays Australia in a couple of hours, should be an easy German win, even without Ballack.
Who does Green play for? Is he in the EPL? He just looks shakey. Even the shot Jozy Altidore took almost beat him, he got lucky on that one cause it hit the post.
ReplyDeleteYes, the South Koreans do seem to have some defensive issues, so they might have some problems with a better team. But we will see.
Congrats to the "Black Stars."
Field,
ReplyDeleteGreen plays for West Ham United.
Filled Negro:

ReplyDeleteOkay, back to the books for me, LOL!!!
Are police really the problem? The police in the inner city have to deal with some of the worst aspects of human society in this country. It's no surprise when they go out of line.
ReplyDeleteThe function police serve is to keep the "truly disadvantaged: from the rest of society. Many urban centers have devolved into societies where work is an anomaly; family structure is virtually unknown; and violence and nihilism are just every day events.
What's the real solution to this? It doesn't have anything to do with the police. You could withdraw all police presence from inner cities in places like Detroit, Philadelphia, Gary, or Youngstown and the killing and crime would only accelerate. Only a substantial resocialization and reinvestment in these areas will make any difference.
FYI: Obama is warning of massive layoffs coming for Police, Teachers, and Firefighters:

My, my, my. What will the complainers and blamers have to say now? How will Field craft the message in his post?
I can hear him say, "I am putting on my racism air shoes because this is racist!"
CF, "I noted that Mother Theresa died the same day (or time frame) as did Diana and her death did not have as much celebrity appeal despite their differing positions in life.

i usually ignore anons but what? i am not in a self-pitying hole, and if i WAS i wouldn't have any trouble getting out!
and about that video--awful, and i surely hope the cop gets in trouble. but did you know that cops have been able to arrest people for filming them?
and some of the cases are sticking in court? very bad!

Overdog,
ReplyDeleteIf someone filmed a soldier doing some of the things that some police do, they could be prosecuted for war crimes, I think the soldier in combat has way more stress than a policeman. The number of murders may compare to the number of soldiers killed in combat, but the number of police deaths are less than .01% of that number.
but the number of police deaths are less than .01% of that number.
ReplyDeleteHathor:
Does your statistic include the 24 year old State Trooper that was MURDERED in Maryland after he went outside of an Appleby's Restaurant to confront a patron who had walked out without paying his bill?
The "7-Eleven" and Wal-Mart employee is told "don't confront a shop lifter. Nothing in this store is worth your life".
For the officer of the LAW - he is often the last line between the RESPECT FOR THE LAW or outright anarchy. Once the Street Pirate realizes that he has the upperhand and that LAWLESSNESS rules - you had better believe that many of the people who watch this video of the police macing this criminal suspect and demanding JUSTICE will be among the individuals calling "911" when this Street Pirate is released from jail.
His eyes will no longer be burning from MACE instead they will be RED from the LUST after your PRIVATE PROPERTY. You standing in the way of his booty will show you which he values MORE.
Field,
ReplyDeleteMore bad news for England. Ledley King, a defender, appears to be ruled out due to a groin injury. He sustained the injury during the match with the US. They face Algeria on Friday, 1400 Philly time (I think, check your local listing). The US play Slovenia in the match immediately preceding.
Germany looked good but, come on, they were playing Australia. They face Serbia this Thursday, which should present a more difficult opposition.
Tomorrow's late match, again 1400 your time (I think), Italy v Paraguay should also be interesting. The defending champs are waging a PR campaign against those who say that this will not be Italy's tourney. Let's see what they have to say on the pitch.
There were no mentions of either Lady Diana or Mother Teresa in any of the write-ups, something that disturbs me greatly. Presumably they are both still deceased, with no evidence yet of Street Pirate culpability. /snark.
Hey Filled Negro!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat did you do to my friend Jody?
She would normally step in at this point and defend the CRIMINAL suspects.
Presumably they are both still deceased, with no evidence yet of Street Pirate culpability. /snark.
ReplyDeleteGregorian Chant:
Lady Di never wore her crown jewels into Southwest Philly.
Mother Theresa never had a shelter in the 8th Ward of DC that had 6 new flat screen televisions mounted on the wall for the comfort of those who she served. Little did she know that it was a bad idea to shut down and vacate the place at 9am, right after the 6:00am breakfast AND 2pm, right after the 12noon lunch. You see Gregory - it is between ONE OF THESE TWO TIMES that the Homeless Street Pirates that had previously cased the joint and understood the schedule, hid in one of the closets and then exited during one of these closing times.
Needless to day these flat screen televisions are long gone. All that remains is the hole in the walls where they used to be mounted.
Have YOU ever tried to get entertained by watching a hole in the wall Gregory?
Now you know how Mother Theresa felt.
Oh wow, the comments have me lost for words, as well as the comments made over at black voices.

And thanks for the love in the side column, much appreciated.

Field, you know the Mighty Sparrow was from Grenada, right? Ah tink ah gon tek back yo island card. :)

Oh lawd La~Audio, don't take it just yet. I could have sworn Sparrow was a Trini. :)
No problem Redbonegirl97, you do good work over there.
Oh my lack of God, somebody stole some flat screen TV's!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWill the horrors never end?
CF, "What did you do to my friend Jody?"
ReplyDeleteField knows exactly why Jody has left FN. Go back to Field's post about Israel, when he was waving the Israeli flag and conflating Jewish people with Israelis.
In his ignorance, Field insulted her. He never even bothered to apologize, and clearly he should have done so.
But Field has a childish weakness...It's called foolish self-centered pride.
Field, you also need to man-up for your wrongful support of Israel too. I won't hold my breath.
ReplyDelete[quote:ANON]African Americans who LOVE soccer will go around the world to play for another country. It's not impossible.
ReplyDeleteYes it is impossible.
Britain does not have a soccer team, you see.
Never has, probably never will. There are occasional rumblings about setting one up, but the Scots and the Welsh are not keen on the idea.
"Field, you also need to man-up for your wrongful support of Israel too. I won't hold my breath."
ReplyDeleteOK, I will: I SUPPORT ISRAEL!!!! Is that manning up enough for you?
Now about that holding your breath thing: Do you want to start over?
PC, "Britain does not have a soccer team, you see."
ReplyDeleteOh well, that's the way the mop flops in England, Ireland, and Wales.
You really should give 'peace' a chance.
Field, "OK, I will: I SUPPORT ISRAEL!!!! Is that manning up enough for you?"
ReplyDeleteYou are hopeless.
Americans don't know what to call Black people. We used to call you Colored, but you objected to that. Then we called you Negroes, but you didn't like that. Your term of choice for the past ten to fifteen years is African-American. How the hell is a white announcer supposed to know what to call a black player playing for England who may be from Africa or the Carribean? The fact that he needed to make an issue of skin color tells you all you need to know. He probably uses the same word at home that a lot of blacks use. I'm not going to go there, but you know damn well what that word is.
ReplyDelete"African Americans on the British soccer team"... You're right Field, I had to let it sink in and it took me 20 or so so seconds before I caught it. It made me laugh too.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a video an angry Englishman had made on YouTube, of the immigrants in London, in which he is complaining about the Africans,Indians and others coming to his country.
I suggested, one thing that he could do,would be to go up to as many of them as he could and find out their SURNAMES, since the "PRESENCE" of the English in their world wide empire was something that was "FELT" by their subjects quite well. Maybe then he would have a little understanding of the situation.
Talk about chickens coming home to roost.
I am sure he meant Blacks, in general. Not everybody knows about soccer. In fact, I would wager that quite a few Americans don't know a damn thing about it. So.. Field, are you going to educate us ignoramuses about whether there are any Blacks on that soccer team? It sure wo
