The Reverse Race Card.

*
Ms. Sherrod, I go to an excellent cleaner here in Philly. They will do a great job of getting those tire marks off the back of your beautiful dress. Still, I bet that bus must have been pretty heavy.

Don't worry, your back will recover. Just ask some of the other Negroes who found themselves under the O bus what they used to make themselves feel better.

Seriously, have you all ever seen a brother so afraid of appearing racial than his O ness? No wonder the wingnuts over at Roger's (You remember Roger, right? He gave A-merry-ca Willie Horton) propaganda station are having so much fun playing the race card with him. Every time he tries to distance himself from you Negroes and be the president for all A-merry-ca, they pull him back in.

"Conservative media, particularly Fox News, have finally picked up on the item and are trumpeting it as another example of President Obama's Machiavellian hand silently pulling strings behind the scenes to protect those groups who might have helped steer votes in his direction during the 2008 race for the White House. If this sounds familiar, that's because you've heard it before -- back when it was known as "The ACORN Scandal." If you can't immediately see what the members of the New Black Panther Party and the people who were generally helped out by ACORN have in common, you need to have your eyes checked.

For the record, the New Black Panther Party is a fringe group that's actually been denounced by the original Black Panthers. Its leader, the artist formerly known as Paris Lewis who now goes by the amusingly generic hyper-African moniker "Dr. Malik Zulu Shabazz," is the kind of clownish caricature Fox News loves to trot out at regular intervals. This is because he's guaranteed to say something mindlessly inflammatory that will scare the hell out of the network's demographic of lily-white, middle-American doofs, confirming all their worst fears about the encroaching "Negro threat." As former Washington Post columnist Dave Weigel beautifully put it, Shabazz is to Bill O'Reilly what the KKK or GG Allin was to Donahue: Somebody who makes for great TV and whom your core audience can feel comfortable disliking intensely.

If you haven't been watching Fox News lately -- and I can't in good conscience suggest that you do -- the Panthers "story" has been obsessively, breathlessly beaten into the ground by one network personality in particular: Megyn Kelly. She's taken it upon herself, bless her little heart, to be the avatar for every freaked-the-fuck-out white Christian soul convinced that he or she is losing this great country to minorities or illegal immigrants or whatever, and that it all started with the election of the Great Kenyan Socialist Usurper. She's like Elizabeth Hasselbeck with an actual associates degree and a shit-ton more professional ambition. Kelly is Fox's rising star du jour, even going so far as to get an official canonization from none other than Sarah Palin via her overworked Twitter feed -- and the reason for this is that she knows exactly when to crinkle her face into that lemon-sucking look of smug skepticism, and just what buttons to press and what open-ended questions to ask of her viewers."

Last night I said I would start sending my money to the NAACP again. Well, I might have to rethink my position. If these Negroes aren't smart enough to vet an entire video before they make an important statement, how can I trust them to advance the cause of civil rights?
Come on people, this is a serious propaganda war you are fighting with the folks over at Radio Rwanda, you can't just let them dictate the terms each battle. You have to fight fire with fire.
And, speaking of fire, the story of how this poor woman got fired is unbelievable. Because the administration was afraid that her story was going to be on Captain Jack's show? (You might have to think about that one for a minute, but it will come to you) Shame!

"Sherrod said she first heard of the possible controversy when someone e-mailed her Thursday to taunt her about her comments. She immediately forwarded the e-mail to the USDA so the agency would be aware. She was told that someone would look into it.

She said it wasn't until Monday that she heard back, and by then, she was being asked for her resignation.

Sherrod said she got four calls Monday from Cheryl Cook, the USDA rural development undersecretary. In the first, she said, she was told she was being put on administrative leave. In the second, she said, she was told she needed to resign.

Asked if she felt she had an opportunity to explain, Sherrod said, "No, I didn't. The administration, they were not interested in hearing the truth. No one wanted to hear the truth."

Ms. Sherrod, to steal a quote from a movie I saw once: They "can't handle the truth."

  3. Good on you,Field, for exposing yet another right wing nut railroading of a black official/organization
    that those cowards find threatening.

However,I'm not going to jump to the conclusion YET that Obama himself drove the bus over Ms.Sherrod.
Too much rushing to judgment on BOTH sides!

However, now that the truth is out, if she doesn't get re-instated REAL SOON,I'll be good and ready to co-sign with you.

Sadly, I don't think she'll get her job back. Obama will hide behind Agricultural Secretary, Tom Vilsack, whose comments were: "I didn't speak to the White House...nobody from the White House contacted me about this decision at all." And that will be it. Beer Summit anyone?

Unfortunately, Ms. Sherrod was used as the political football kicked back and forth between the Tea Party/Breitbart/Faux News contingent and the NAACP.

Hopefully, she will sue Breitbart, the federal government and the NAACP. The NAACP's reversal is too little, too late.

Regarding our President, "race" is the third rail for him (he will never touch it). I am disappointed in his valuing political expediency over principle.

  9. I can't believe I'm thinking this, much less saying it, but I think Black folks would have been better off with Hilary.

Actually, this is an interesting question. I wonder what would Newscorp be doing now if Clinton were president. I suspect that if she were on the same political track as O, they'd be attacking but it obviously wouldn't be sex or race. More likely than not, she'd be on a different and more acceptable political track as far as the opposition is concerned.

I, for one, don't buy that this is strictly about race. Don't get me wrong---the stunts they're pulling are definitely race bait and some of the folks behind it are no doubt racist, but this thing ain't that simple. There's a larger hidden agenda that the race issue serves. Actually, race has always been a proxy for economic issues from slavery on down to today's prison industrial complex.

They don't want Obama out just because he's black. Among other things, I think they want him out because he doesn't want to play ball in the middle east in the march to war with Iran. That is preventing some folks from getting paid and another 4 years without a war with Iran is hurting some folks' business model. Critical to this march to war is gaining majorities in November. Sherrod, NBPP, tea parties and etc are merely the southern strategy redux in that effort.

Bottom line, race is but one piece on the chessboard and that's the piece that's being played now. What we as black folks have to do is stop allowing these folks to use our emotions to "game us" for their agenda. I understand being pissed and I'm pissed as well, but there's a larger picture to account for.

Really, it's like having the Devil show up and you swallow whatever he says like you've never head the Devil lies.

And the NAACP is blaming Fox and Briebart for the NAACP's own assumption that Briebart and Fox were telling the story straight. *SMH*

It's so annoying because people are in denial that there is a prevailing white American culture. To be post racial, in reality, just means every "ethnic" person must cast away their cultural "eccentricities" and conform to the white American culture.

    @Roderick

Of course, this is my personal opinion - I believe the NAACP's initial condemnation of Ms. Sherrod lent legitimacy to Breitbart's "clipped" and edited version of the speech.

The NAACP's repudiation effectively neutralized scepticism about Beitbart's motive(s) for bringing the videotaped speech to light. And this, I believe, contributed to the environment resulting in the request for her resignation by the Dept. of Agriculture. (Remember, the organization cheered her ouster.)

At a minimum, the NAACP can be faulted for its irresponsibility in commenting without reviewing the speech in its entirety.

An "esteemed" and historic organization such as the NAACP, agreed publicly, in the media, with an egregious misrepresentation of what Ms. Sherrod said without reviewing all the facts first and which ultimately resulted in her loss of employment and income. If you don't consider that defamation ... well, let's just say I don't know what is.

    A few definitions of defamation:

"Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always,[1] a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed (the claimant)."

  25. Yes, this was a pathetic White House fumble, if not obvious running from anything that could remotely egg on more Tea Party folks. This is where we all agree -- Obama punked out on this one.

This wasn't some mau-mau motor mouth like Van Jones -- this was the equivalent of firing the church secretary because the visiting Bishop doesn't like the way she makes iced tea.

First ACORN now some random bean counter nobody ever heard about until the wingnuts started pulling things out their ass. Obama should have stood by this woman.

However, this isn't shocking and from a purely political standpoint -- its business and nothing personal. Its standard political calculus, when your backs against as wall and you're political capital account is almost 0 anything remotely resembling a problem throw off like lint.

From a strictly political standpoint, this Shirley Sherrod fiasco could be seen as a necessary liability. Why waste time fighting for a nobody in the USDA when you've got an oil spill and job creation to worry about? Too bad it was absolutely BS that was disproved less than 24 hours later.

But the problem is that eventually political calculus without political principle will backfire. By horse trading for a few inches, you could end up losing the whole mile. Yes, Health Care and Wall Street reform are great, but when you aren't willing to take bring the ruckus, you get watered down version of what could be a great idea. And of course, when you're willing to throw decent people under the bus (Shirley Sherrod, ACORN) because of CYA, your base becomes DOA.

My advice to the President -- tell your Agriculture Secretary to grow a sack (as you allow your pair to descend) and hire this woman back with full benefits.

You gotta be shitting me. It's not like Obama was going to take a stand with a low level USDA official, but for him to flake off at the slightest provocation? That so-called bus has gotta be losing traction thanks to those tires gettting all greased up by the bodies being thrown under it. And sooner or later, it's gonna crash straight into a tree.

To wit, if Obama isn't careful and keeps playing this neutral post-racial card without taking a stand on anything, let alone anything involving Blacks, he's gonna find a big portion of his support base staying home watching the game or having a cookout. Everyone else is gonna yawn if he tries to campaign for another term in office and be more interested in whomever comes out of the woodwork if he decides not to run.

Who's in the woodwork waiting? Other than ol' Hillary, I can't think of anyone else even remotely appealing who wants in on the nomination.

By the way, it's gonna be a bitch if Obama can't get the nomination from his own damn party if he decides to run another term.

Don't want to sound as though I'm boarding the bandwagon, but either he takes a stand on something and show some teeth and balls.......or he's gonna find himself sans support, with a glaring vote of no confidence from the American public.

  37. I'm not going to defend the Obama Administration's decision to cut it losses, even before learning or determining if a real loss existed.

    Their action is indefensible.

Fox News has found its way into the Liberal Hen House. Rather than confront the Fox, and protect the hens, a decision was made to sacrifice one, to assure the protection of all.

    That's unacceptable.

Now if the extent of our action is to cluck our tongues, and berate Obama for another sacrifice to the Fox, then we show, by our inaction, that we agree with the decision, and the sacrifice.

Here's what I suggest: Email the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, AgSec@usda.gov, and call his Washington Office, 202-720-3631, and insist that Shirley Sherrod be reinstated, pronto.

Email the White House with the same demand.

Email colorofchange.org. (info@colorofchange.org) Ask them to conduct a petition drive to address this travesty.

We need to let the Fox know: We may be lowly roosters and hens, but we're not going to stand by and let him devour us, one at at time, just to appease him.

    Join me!

One voice can be heard a block away. A million voices can be heard all they way to the White House.

Ask others to lend their voice, and stand against a grave injustice.

What you, Field and other Negroes on this blog don't understand and unable to 'see' is that Fox News is so powerful it frightens politicians. The President has no choice but to react to Fox News media.

Fox is the most powerful media EVER in the history of America. Why? because Americans believe in Fox News. It has the most influential talent in the history of America.

He didn't understand why she would've had the idea of treating a white person differently than any other person back then. Rolands mommy and daddy must've raised him to be nice to white folk or boss or massah even when he whomp you.

In Rolands mind I guess if your father was murdered by racist whites, after his death they burn a cross in your yard, you live in a racist/segregated enviornment, your cousin is lynched by racist whites, then you automatically should grow up LOVING white people in Rolands eyes?

I applaud her fairness, patience, and strength. We have too many different types of black people in this country. Watching him demonize this woman discourage me a little. It made me ask the same old question, "when will we support each other?". Black people came together to vote a Black President into office. Then we went right back to our perspective corners to hurl rocks at each other like we've always done screaming, "I'm better than you, no I'm better than you, well mistah Charlie say I'm better so I'm better then you nqqa!!!".

Well Ms.Sherrod I applaud you. Thank you for the hard work and fortitude to make it to such a wise age and endure so many struggles, so that me and Roland can express our oppinions and get a chance at the American dream.

I don't see any violation of free speech not allowing anonymous comments. If you were in a crowd, there would be some way to differentiate whose speaking, either from the face or voice, although you would have no idea who that person was.
We are human and we get cues other people when we have conversations. In a setting like this we do not have the normal cues, except the tone of speech. When speaking to strangers and are put off by their speech, we know enough to avoid that person.
There are some anonymous people whom I would rather avoid and some I want to read, but in this setting I have to read every one, if I were to participate at all, because that is the only way I can get any cues at all.

Creating a pseudonym is the only way we can get cues as to who we associate with or not.

I think what you are asking us to do is to go into a social situation, blinded and with earplugs.

I do leave the comments when it becomes impossible to follow, and I wonder what would be the intent of having a blog comment section if it becomes totally incoherent.

Field, another great post. I was disgusted when Obama threw Van Jones under the bus, and I'm even more disgusted now. The rush to judgement to appease the reich wing nutcases was absolutely sickening.

Fox News, of course, jumped all over this as it would any opportunity to paint the Obama Administration and black people in general as racist. Vilsack and the administration owe Shirley Sherrod an apology. It begins with Vilsack.

Then, hopefully President Obama has a few beers left from Skip Gates-gate to share with Shirley Sherrod.

"if Obama isn't careful and keeps playing this neutral post-racial card without taking a stand on anything, let alone anything involving Blacks, he's gonna find a big portion of his support base staying home watching the game or having a cookout."

    Exactly.

Meanwhile as anyone with a pair of eyes can see, the rightwingers are stroking up the flames of a race war.

If not in the streets in the media.

Obama better grow a set of nuggets real quick and realize who brought him to the dance.

    mmm

"Just as I predicted over a year ago when I admitted on this blog that I voted Republican for the first time in my life in 2008 and was vilified for it, Prez. Obama isn't any different that ANY other president."

    Oh please.

You're just another bitter bm hating bw who would have rather seen a white woman, a rightwing white man, or a pinstriped eskimo elected President over a black man.

Just what was it about Obama that offended you so much that you voted for friggin McCain?

Racism and stupidity are becoming so overwhelming. I don't even know if I can normally function anymore. Excluding the KKK and similar groups (of all creeds, races, etc), the most racist organization of our age is thoroughly convinced that it is not racist. How do you counter that?

That's some shit you put in your memoirs after you've retired. She should have known there would be repercussions and if she didn't know now she knows. If I do something stupid and then own up to it, I don't expect Obama to swoop down and save me. Some things you need to take to your grave and that was one of them.

Whatever date is chosen, or however many, I'll throw in my support. It will be a slow build, but we can win this battle if we remain focused on the prize: meaningful campaign finance reform and serious restrictions on lobbying activity. It's time to take back our government. Let the average person have an equal voice with the wealthy.

For now, remember: The corporations do not control our government; they are our government.

  71. UTS,

I'm not saying she deserved to be fired but she should have know the backlash in this burn a nigger age. Common sense should have told her not to speak on it. Had I been her friend I would have said, "Naw girl let's keep that one between us." Not right now. Sometimes anything you say can misconstrued. I know she had an awaking. Good for her. I respect that. We all get them at some point of our lives and depending on what they are you keep them yourdamnself! I would not have said anything because you know how people are. She just gave them a reason to go after her. I'm not giving anyone a reason to throw rocks at me okay. If you all think that's the way to go then you all are better than me. And if you're giving them ammunition you better come back at them just as hard. When I fill out job apps I don't say that I stole from my former employers when the cameras weren't on me because I was young and dumb and now I've been 'enlightened' because I have kids and I don't want to go to jail for petty theft and be raped by some big burly chick with a towel dildo. No, I keep that bit of enlightenment to myself. And she should have too.

Ms. Sherrod didn't do anything wrong or illegal.

Fox TV misrepresented her stated and may very well have committed a criminal act.

    As btx pointed out yesterday:

"Faux News has established a pattern of fraudulent misrepresentation, which goes beyond the political sphere to impacting the lives and livelihoods of non-public persona. I believe this is a direct violation of the Telecommunications Act of 1937 - meaning, should the DOJ indeed find that Mrs Sherrod was misrepresented, based on a pattern established in the ACRON Tapes...

The FCC should revoke Faux's broadcast and operating license."

I for one have been tweeting for two days to get people to call the DOJ and FCC and go after Fox.

    It's on now.

    ReplyDelete
  73. AB - uh, whatever, I never said I thought Obama was perfect. But I live in reality and not the 'Inception'-esque insanity that you call home. Again, even Fox thinks the "Obama is on the DL" is complete BS -- that should tell you something.

Didi, I don't agree with you -- but I get what you're saying. Like I said, this is political contact sport and the White House can't risk any dead weight. Here's an uncomfortable reality -- if Obama had taken on this fight, this would have been another beer summit; distracting the administration from real problem.

But as Rachel Maddow said, if you keep falling for this BS its like feeding your dog at your dinner table not expecting the dog to beg at the table.

I'm a little more upset with the NAACP, actually. How can they fall for a doctored tape from their own convention?! No one in the NAACP had the original tapes? Ben Jealous is talking 'we couldn't get the evidence'. WTF? Its your own videotape, dude. It shows how weak-kneed the NAACP, Obama and other Black leaders have become in light of the Tea Party movement -- more afraid of angering guilty white liberals than standing on principle.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous1:10 PM

Yes it is important to remember that Obama= staff, I do also believe that he has given his staff to much power. The person that did the firing s/b fired, that would be justice. It would also send the mess. to look before you leap, and they would be treated with the same type of disrespect.

Hell man, it's on right now.

Those "white folks" you're referring to are called CONSERVATIVES.

They decided from Day 1 of Obama's presidency that they were going to destroy him and they will succeed if we on the left are silly and complacent.

Did you see the faces of the crowd at McCain HQ the night he conceded?

    They were FRIGHTENED.

Then the next day they got angry and got to working on Obama's defeat.

No matter how disatisfied we may be with Obama at this point, he's a damn sight better than the alternative which looks like Romney, Gingrich or God forbid Palin.

  114. Rippa, you're right about the WH, and while I did not talk about the WH here, I said its actions were stupid on my own blog.
In addition, I said last year that Obama's about compromise.

Nevertheless, it was Sherrod speaking at an NAACP event that came under fire. The NAACP could have checked that video faster than anyone else. But, no. They assumed the WH checked it out, I think.

Agri Dept. Sec'y Vilsack is from Iowa and a jackass to boot. I think he sympathizes with the Briebart crowd and believes its "reverse racism" spin. He too easily assumed Sherrod did exactly what Fox News and Briebart said it did. And the WH too easily assumed Vilsack knew what the hell he was doing in forcing her to quit.

Despite Briebart's people doctoring the ACORN video, it seems the White House, MSM, and the NAACP still gave him more benefit of the doubt than it did Shirley Sherrod. In these days of video manipulation, you'd think they'd all be smarter than that.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Let's see if they believe Briebart the next time he does it. He was on GMA this morning saying he did it to get back at the NAACP.

  117. Gregory -- that's great news. It takes a real man to admit that he screwed up (ok, public press helped too).

Again, whether Obama came to the rescue or (as the admin did) threw this lady under a speeding bus Fox News/Breinhart can yell "Mission Accomplished". Either way, the Administration has had to waste two days on this BS.

RK -- yes, progressive better wake up and smell the coffee. Obama's presidency represents the beginning of the end for Wingnut rule. If this Black guy can win the POTUS, what's next? A woman? An atheist? Or worse, a die-in-the-wool liberal?

The right wing has been on the offensive since day one. There are folks who think the Tea Party have legitimate issues and that they simply turn a blind eye to racism. Bullshit!! This is the scene from 'Head of State'; a Black man is President and White People losing their damn minds because of it.

Here's my question, if the Tea Party were always 'looking to take the government back' where were they during the beginning of the mortgage crisis? I tell you where -- sitting on their asses wearing Sarah Palin t-shirts because only "Niggers and Spics" were losing their homes at the early stages of the meltdown.

I was in New York when GW Bush started the bank bailouts. You know who showed up to protest? Hippies and Net Roots folks who think Amy Good and Bill Moyers are Moses and Aaron. Not a Tea Party freak in sight. My sales manager was visiting investors and was talking about being accosted by hippies in midtown.

The second Obama took the oath -- white people collectively lost their cookies and the Tea Party was born. This is like the Empire Strikes Back; we got off a lucky shot in New Hope (election day 2008) and the Sith Lords and the Galactic Empire (aka the GOP the Tea Party) are ready to put their foots through our collective left-center asses.

So while we poo-poo Obama and look to some left wing Messiah coming from God-only-knows-where, the Right is steadily making sure that once they're back in charge -- we're going back to Jim Crow.

Yes, Obama fumbled -- hell, we all screw up at the job sometimes. But RK has a point, this is bigger than the skinny Negro from the Windy City. And until some of us get our heads out our asses and realize that, we're doomed.

    I disagree my brother.

I am under no illusions about the endemic racism in America and how it exists in every facet of American life but I truly believe that it is receding.

I look at how young people interact generally. At least in the area where I live.

People don't even flinch at interracial relationships anymore whereas whereas when I was young (late 80s early 90s) you got to certain places with a white girl and you both may have left on stretchers.

White people I see are regularly managed or supervised by blacks in my world and I sense no resentment.

I do business with white folks all the time and have no problem closing deals as long as I can show them how my solution will make them more efficient.

Sure there is an element in the white community that are still fighting the Civil War in their minds but they are definitely in the minority.

However they are making a lot of noise these days which makes them seem more pervasive than they actually are.

Sup Field? I have stayed out of the fray because this Tea Party stuff and the racist rock throwing almost seem like a distraction from the larger issues haunting Black America.

Unemployment in our community is off the charts and a large section has been practically frozen out because of where they come from or mistakes they have made. It seems like these are the issues the NAACP should be focusing on.

But it makes sense because unfortunately at bottom the NAACP appears from my vantage point a black middle class organization. Its original focus was upon legislation that would help grant us equal rights it has never been good with the grass roots fights with the exception of a few branches which were summarily punished when they went too far.

Its unfortunate that it is where it is today and that they rushed to judgement on Ms.Sherrod. But its consistent with what they have been doing lately. It would help if they focused on some real issues that are effecting all black folks.

    ReplyDelete
  135. mellaneous5:39 PM

Uptown Steve I think you are looking at social gains of black folks and are equating them with political and economic gains.

Yes a black man can walk down the street with a white woman and not be lynched and many of the younger whites are more open or at least tolerant of black folks. But the anti-black feelings are still not that far from the surface in this country.

Politically black folks are fairly powerless until they actually take to the street and fight issues the system kind of automatically functions to put us at a disadvantage. And its really time to stop pretending that Obama is anything other than who is which is another capitalist stooge -no more and no less. and no worse than the Clintons and no better.

And Steve black people do pretend that Obama is being held back from doing all kinds of good that he hasn't voiced out of his mouth and that he is being held back by the "white man" or the system. Both theories are dead wrong!

And there is no use trying to defend middle class black folks when it comes to Obama they really want to believe that he will save us.I have heard too many statements supporting this fallacy. And I have seen folks get mad when Obama is called out for not doing much for poor or black folks or any other people of color.

Economically black folks don't really run or own much of anything. Blacks as a whole are probably more dependent than we were before the days of integration. And no I am not suggesting that we return to those days when "we" had so many of our businesses as many folks like to say.

And on some level we as a group are in much better shape because we have bought into the greater society's so called rugged individualism. Many middle class black folks have written off our lesser off and less educated brethren just as many in the greater society has.

Ultimately we have to come up with a plan for progress otherwise we are going to be chasing distractions and putting too much attention on people and things that don't hold real power and aren't the real source of our oppression.

    ReplyDelete
  136. mellaneous5:46 PM

And Field please don't take my first statement as a diss. I come to the blog now to find out about all the other stuff going on besides the everday injustices being perpetrated by the imperialist both at home and abroad.

BTW I think Mike Vick is owed an apology. A certain group of folks howled and screamed as if he had murdered his mother yet BP has destroyed much of the Gulf Coasts eco system and have caused the deaths and the continued dying of countless wildlife. They have destroyed fish and seafood for years to come. Eleven human beings even died because of obvious callous neglect.

Yet the BP president isn't being hounded there are no constant protests. Not even symbolic protests.

Makes you wonder! Just think about it, they dug deep in the ocean with no real contingency program for if something went wrong and now that the worse has happened, there was a possibility that this leak could go on indefinitely, changing the worlds eco structure and damaging all of nature which down the line will have dire consequences.

    But there was little protest.

I really do feel that once Obama is out, the suffering of Blacks will multiply four-fold. There will be no empathy, sympathy or justice for Blacks...only antipathy, hate and more injustice from the so-called justice system.

Racial progress will reverse itself. But ONLY for 'Blacks'... Asians and Latinos will be fine. In fact, they probably will experience racial progress. But Blacks will sink into the mires of terror of injustice.

Imo, this suffering will be felt as loss of, and unavailability of white collar jobs and positions in the corporate world and government; and in blue collar jobs. The ghettos will grow and a new level of violence and terror will ensue.

Blacks will experience a new hardship for a long time in America. I hope that I am wrong.

  139. Actually, I'm most upset that this whole thing is a reflection on the Obama administration. How is everything a referendum on the administration, especially when it was the right wing who put the whole scheme in action just to prove Obama was a reverse racist.

They were wrong, and now the NAACP and the Obama administration are the escape goats. What is wrong with the left where they can't fight the right? We are even losing the battles handed to us on a silver platter. Headlines should be Tea Party race-baiting backfires. Instead, we are talking about Obama's failures. This poor man is just damned. If he would have fought for her, he would have fit into the Fox News narrative. They would have twisted her comments until she believed she was a racist.

Isn't it pathetic that they are blaming Obama when the facts show that it was Breit Nut? Just goes to show you what is to come for the entire black race once Obama is no longer in office.

The truth of the matter is Obama has been rendered powerless. How many more public instances do you need as proof before Blacks realize that Obama is a President without the full powers of a President?

That is why you do not see headlines against the Tea Party. It's easier to leave the blame on the bm even though it belongs to the wm.

Let's face it. As a race, we are powerless politically and very weak economically. President or not, Blacks are at the mercy of White America. Hell, even the police don't respect us whether we are a professor at Harvard or President of the USA.

Good point Mellaneous! I was keenly aware during Obama's campaign season he rarely, if ever, addressed the poor - it was always about the middle class.

As hypersensitive I was this too, I have to admit I'd gotten caught up in the momentousness of it all and forgot.

Although I voted for him, I never saw Obama as anything but an intelluctual - a politically savvy, pragmatic, charismatic and decent man who I thought might actually try to effect some policies that would help to dig this country out of the mess and morass the Bush years wrought.

But, his almost constipated cautiousness, captiulation and genuflecting to the seats of power, authority and the right wing are maddening!

  152. mell - I feel you, too many of our folks treat Obama with kid gloves because he's a Negro. But just as many Black folks have designated Obama the messiah, many in the Black blog-sphere and many of the Net Roots has determined that Obama is Satan or 'the friendly fascists' as many folks used to called Clinton, simply because he hasn't gone through their laundry list of sweeping change fast enough. Both are over simplifications of reality.

The problem from both sides is that we thought that November 2008 was the end -- it was only the beginning. So long as we sit on our duffs and type on our key boards -- Che Gueverra could have been elected and we'd still be in the same rut if not worse.

Like I said, Obama is the President not Jesus -- he can't walk on water or raise the dead. He's a politician and will do no more or no less than the people actively demand of him.

And even Jesus had 12 roll dogs and 1 ride-or-die chick. Obama is the political equivalent of Pre-Miami Le Bron James -- he's a great player by himself but he's got straight up garbage team.

I understand Ms Grapevine -- Frankly, the way the Left, Black folks, congress and just about everyone abandons this man every time the Right sneeze -- I wouldn't want the job either.

Kathy - the reason why the COO and engineers of BP aren't sitting in prison is same reasons that Tim Geithner and other Goldman Sachs crooks are still walking free.

The first issue is the legal 'personhood' of a corporation. Simply put a corporation for contractual purposes is treated like a person. And because of that, you can't always sue a CEO or COO directly when a corporation screws up.

The reason why you create a corporation is so that legally, the corporation not individuals get sued.

Also, BP, banks and other corporate fiends had the laws rewritten and stacked the government in their favor since Reagan. In other words, you can't sue them because technically, they may have done nothing illegal.

Yes, Obama is in part guilty, he should have brought in real flamethrowers to clean up the mess and Goldman Sachs wash offs. He didn't so it is what it is.

But again for the Net Roots haters, these problems are bigger than one skinny mulatto Harvard Law graduate. And only God himself could have change this all in 20 months.

Imo, this suffering will be felt as loss of, and unavailability of white collar jobs and positions in the corporate world and government; and in blue collar jobs. The ghettos will grow and a new level of violence and terror will ensue.

  181. I've said it before: blacks are held to a higher standard. Sometimes that standard is imposed upon us; at other times, it's self-imposed.

If we respond in kind (ala The Black Panthers [by any means necessary]) or submit to non-violence (ala Dr. King), to address racism in this country, and glean a measure of justice that's not afforded us by the majority, we're judged, on the one hand, as racists, and on the other hand, as weak pacifists.

Today, it matters not what measures we use, we're still called racists (whether it's the New Black Panthers), or the venerable NAACP.

Let's see who the winners and losers are in this battle of brawn and wit, to win the hearts of the American people.

Andrew Breitbart and Fox News have scored big. Together or separately, they've taken down
ACORN, Van Jones, Rev. Wright, and have struck at the heart of the NAACP's character, and nearly cost a good woman her livelihood, and her reputation.

For all of their shenanigans, Fox News won't take a hit. Their ratings will continue to climb despite driving this big lie of racism in NAACP's midst.

Andrew Breitbart won't take a hit. His web site will continue to flourish. And his followers will share his belief that the NAACP is still racist, and that the Tea Party is nothing more than good Americans struggling to hold government accountable.

The Tea Party won't take a hit. The fall out around this incident won't diminish the group, only add to their numbers.

Those who have taken a hit are the NAACP (for its rush to judgment), Shirley Sherrod (for being used as a weapon with which to attack the NAACP), and the Obama administration, and Obama himself (for capitulating to the hyper-charged racial environment brought on by having a black man in the White House).

And many of you on this blog (who are turning on Obama for attempting to keep this incident out of Fox News' klieg lights, and turned-up volume that will serve to distract him, as the New Black Panther Party has distracted him, from keeping his promises to the American people).

There are teachable moments galore here. Actually, too many to cite. But here's a few--the enemy never sleeps. Context is everything. We should be wary, always, of text being used to con. We should look at the larger picture, before we look to change the picture, and our support. We should push our agenda, if we don't think it's being pushed hard enough.

And know that change comes in small steps, not big ones, because we are, after all, a democracy, and not a dictatorship, and that the president is only as effective, and as strong, as the congress he's inherited.

Are you really that naive to think that Obama made an educated informed decision on her firing. If he'd just watched the video, none of this would have happened. So, yes, I think it's more plausible that he was briefed, and he agreed.

Briefing: Mr. President Shirley Sharrond was asked for her resignation on some comments we perceived as racist. There is a video reflecting those comments. We can't have another incident like this.

Mr. President: Not again, ok accept her resignation.

Also are you really that naive to not believe the right is still framing this issue, and not the left. Who cares if Fox News "accidentally" stopped the video where her comments seemed racist. Who cares how this whole thing started in the first place. It's Obama's fault for hiring a racist, and it's Obams's fault for firing a non-racist.

I'm not defending NAACP or Obama, but I am saying don't be fooled the real culprits are from the right.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Anon: No, I will not expound on it too much because you have your feeling and others have their own feeling. I might have, but then I read your question (saturated in some likely misguided dislike for the president). Plus, you missed the main point of what my comment was all about. No, I am not kidding about my comment. Frankly, your comment doesn't really make a lot of sense. I doubt many people really were foolish enough to see racism as having ended or that there is not much that needs still to be repaired. Not sure what point you were making about giving comfort to the enemies of black folk. You may choose to short change the value of inspiration from his rise from meager beginnings to the presidency, but others see it differently. The value of inspiration, if properly used, will buy a lot more than a bag of chips in time.

Voting for a black person simply because they're black is Conservatism 101. So this bogus conservative outrage is born from purely Conservative ideology.

    Quote:

"Yes. I there's a very good argument for voting for a Negro because he's a Negro- until such a time as it becomes simply redundant to make such a demonstration. I wouldn't vote for a Jew because he was a Jew, because it seems to me that the time has long passed when it was necessary to demonstrate that a Jew can rise as high as he wants tp. This is not the case with the Negro.

Question: Haven't you used this argument to suggest that America should have a black President?

Yes, I have. I would take great pleasure in the pride that would come to the black community if there were a Negro in the White House. I think it's worth working for."

"And its really time to stop pretending that Obama is anything other than who is which is another capitalist stooge -no more and no less. and no worse than the Clintons and no better."

Just curious, who would you like to see as President?

"And Steve black people do pretend that Obama is being held back from doing all kinds of good that he hasn't voiced out of his mouth and that he is being held back by the "white man" or the system."

    This is strawman nonsense.

You are casting assumptions about the political naivete of black folks.

Black people know damn well that Obama cannot rock a dashiki, pump his fist and initiate race rewards.

I think most blacks are expecting him to do what we elected him to do.

Get this economy rolling again and get folks back to work.
