Stop laughing and read something else for a minute: This happened four years ago, so Sarah light cannot blame these statements on her youth.
But let's forget about Sarah light and think about all the blind support that she is getting from her conservative friends simply because she chose to identify with their political tribe. This is politics in A-merry-ca post Obama: I will support you no matter what, just as long as I can say that my party picked up a seat.
For a fleeting moment Karl Rove did what I thought -and now have come to realize- was the impossible. He showed some integrity in speaking out against Sarah light. But he was soon crushed by an avalanche of ignorance and forced to retract every honest word he said about her. Now he and his wingnut buddies might live to regret it. If, by some miracle, she heads off down I-95 to represent Delaware in the US Senate, the image of the republican party will be damaged for generations. But she won't be alone. There are a few other republicans who could end up in the senate and who will contribute to that legacy as well.

The Democrats want candidates who are far left and the Republicans want far right candidates, and if both sides get their wish we will have a congress full of extremes. So nothing will ever get done no matter whose in the White House. ReplyDeleteI have essentially given up on this election cycle. But I am working to help encourage great people with a diverse skill set to run for local offices, and with strong state people to run federally.
Personally I find it disheartening that so many are willing to accept a very high level of corruption and personal malfeasance in political contenders.
And the "Tea Party" advocates who are "endorsing" Angle, O'Donnell, etc are big pockets with an agenda, not the average person who has been showing up at Tea Party rallies.
There is big money on both sides corrupting the discussion and trying to co-opt the momentum, not to mention the MSM on all sides openly admits they don't "report", they "package" the news like a Madison avenue pitch. That goes for MSNBC, CNN and Fox.
The manufactured division is deliberate -- the last thing any of the entrenched want is for people of all races and backgrounds to find common ground.
That might lead to real change.
So until that happens, we'll have our Hastings, our Johnsons, our O'Donnells, our Angles ....
Where are this generations Stephanie Tubbs Jones or Barbara Jordans? Our young people are rightly going to scorn us if we can't find and support people better than the current crop infesting DC.
Barbara Jordan was not afraid to take unpopular stands. One of her legislative triumphs was the Community Reinvestment Act, but I think she would have railed over how that piece of legislation was corrupted by those with their snouts in the trough. CRA was intended to help ameliorate historical financial inequities but instead was used as a vehicle for profit-skimming by Golden Sacks and the rest of the modern day pirates.
Karen, I will admit that it's frustrating, but we shouldn't give up on the process. I like the fact that you are encouraging people who you know with the proper "skill sets" to run for local offices in your areaa.

Field's perspective is more to the left of mine; perhaps it is because I grew up in a cradle-to-grave welfare state and am keenly aware of its pitfalls -- I don't know enough about life in Jamaica to make any valid comparisons, aside from the obvious that both the West Indies (majority black) and Canada (majority anglo) suffered through growing pains detaching themselves from colonial oversight by the British. No matter where the British meddled in the world, their legacy seems to be turmoil and ethnic strife.
Although I may disagree on many points with Field, I tend to agree with him on more points that we disagree. Our disagreements seem to focus on the path to achieve the end state we all desire.
And Field does practice what he preaches: healing the black community, uplifting kids who don't have strong mentors, loving and being faithful to his wife, practicing his craft in a way that he feels can provide some good to humanity.
But I agree with you wholeheartedly that there are many on the left who cynically exploit the black community, much the same as there are many on the right that cynically exploit the evangelical community.

But I think we have all seen how quickly threads that start out as really great conversations degenerate into flame wars that serve no purpose.
I like your quick wit ... my grandfather always asserted that a quick wit is a sign of a sharp intellect, and I tend to agree.
I left in part here because of the "Teabagger" bashing. I don't think demeaning anyone facilitates dialogue. I'm not black and this is a blog with a black perspective. I come to learn and hopefully contribute something positive from a different perspective so that we can all learn from each other.
All I am saying is, let's all try and keep this on a positive line of inquiry -- I know all of the regular contributors here can do that -- rather than devolve into snark. There's lots of places that are nothing but snark fests, and I don't frequent them.
There's a difference between snark and wit ... and sometimes, when it's perceived as snark, people stop listening/paying attention.
That would be a shame, because you have a lot to contribute, and you can't do that if people stop listening.
I mean really ... do you pay attention when the flame wars erupt between AB and the Anons? I skip. How is that helpful? How can you reach someone if they aren't even listening/reading?

You may not like "progressive" agendas but those are the only ones that have changed this country.
