Two millon dollars over three years?!! Juan, I bet that new contract from FOX doesn't make you nervous.

I wonder if Juan Williams and John Williams are related?

"A racially-charged exchange at a small city council meeting in Georgia has grabbed the attention of the national media and the NAACP. In the caught-on-tape exchange, Warner Robins Councilman Daron Lee, who is black, complains, “I was disrespected on Monday. I’m getting tired of you all, talking to me any kind of way. I’m not working in a cotton field.” Councilman John Williams, who is white, replies, “You should be.”

Lee stormed out of the meeting. “He smiles in your face and makes racial remarks. I am pretty much used to it by now,” he told a CNN affiliate. But Williams says the remark was innocent. “I worked in the cotton field,” he protested. “It is not a racial remark at all. He makes everything racial.” [Article]

Yes John, Negroes down south tend to be bit sensitive about things like "cotton fields". Especially when they had to work in them it for your granddaddy without getting paid.
You know what's funny? If John Williams saw Juan's black ass walking towards him in downtown Warner Robbins,Georgia, I bet he would get nervous.

Anyway, I am sorry to hear that Juan Williams lost his job because of his little verbal faux pas. We all need our jobs here in A-merry-ca, these are tough times. I am also sorry to hear that Rick Sanchez lost his job, but... *crickets*. Still, my man Juan shouldn't worry, he will be cashing more of those Rupert Murdoch checks in no time. (Wait....) Juan's problem was that he tried to play both sides of the fence. He would jig for his FOX benefactors, and turn around and write books on civil rights and address black organizations (Like the one occasion when I had to sit through his phony dribble for CLE credits. Juan, you still owe me two hours of my life.) as if we were all ideological soul- mates. At some point, Juan, the truth will catch up to you, it always does. And now you have been exposed for the charlatan you really are. You see people, it's like this: unlike most folks; I don't think Juan believes what he said about Muslims. (How could he?) I think he said that for Bill O'Lie-ly's ears. He said that to fit in with the rest of the folks at FOX and their ongoing anti-Muslim narrative. The folks over at NPR called him on it, because, I suspect, that they have been trying to get rid of his moonlighting ass all along. This just gave them an excuse.

"Michelle Obama“got this Stokely-Carmichael-in-a-designer-dress thing going,”

And you, Juan, have this Negro in a house thing going. Actually, I think I like the Michelle Obama imagery a little more than yours.

Tavis Smiley, who is an NPR contributor, has gotten a free pass for years. He gives a platform to Louis Farrakhan on his "State of the Black Union" referring to him as a "scholar". Farrakhan is head of a hate group that is responsible for more murders in the last 10 years than the KKK and Aryan Nation combined. Farrakhan also scapegoats Jews like the KKK once did blacks. They would fire any white man who promoted the KKK, they should fire Smiley for promoting the black version.
So Tavis openly promotes and praises this guy, then turns around and labels other people and groups "racist"? And where is the outcry among "anti-racists"? Why has NPR remained silent on this? Smiley has also made several comments about Jews that would be considered unacceptable if said about blacks. He has also used his job at NPR to spread hype about Tea Party racism. I am not a Tea Party fan, but there is no doubt that Nation of Islam is a far more extreame and hateful group. The irony that he promotes the hate group Nation of Islam yet calls the Tea Party racist on the air and states rumors about racist incidents as though they were proven fact in troubling. They have no business firing Williams while giving Smiley a free pass.

You're right Field, he played both sides of the fence for years.

But this clown should have been banished from the mainstream media years ago.

He himself was a sexual harasser.

    Field,

You are 100% correct. Williams tried to play both sides of the fence and got burned. He never disagrees with O'Reilly and goes out of his way to play his coon. I made the mistake of thinking when Obama was elected that Williams was going to be the person whose work I read in the past. He disagreed with Bret Hume after the election which prompt Hume to say in essence that Juan was getting too full of himself. About a month ago Williams played O'Reilly's flunky telling him he was the most trusted name in news. After that I was done with him. Tonight on O'Reilly he was no different. I'm not someone who wants to see anyone lose their job but I find it funny that when someone makes a comment about Jews and gets fired the right are all for it. When NPR does the same about someone making a comment about Muslims, now the right want to take away NPR's funding

If you've read his books or listened to much of his commentary on Fox or NPR, you know that Williams is not a bigot. Like him or not, that is something that you people celebrating his firing ought to notice. Williams was not expressing hatred or intolerance of Muslims. He was confessing to the kind of anxiety that I suspect many and possibly most Americans feel. He was acknowledging a sad reality.

If what Williams said was bigoted, then this is a nation of bigots, and the term no longer means anything.

I don't know what the stats are regarding businesss fraud - maybe you could prove the case that dealing with Jews is something that should make you nervous. I'm sure the many black commentators who do say such things, Louis Farrakhan included, don't really bother you too much.

The Ku Klux Klan has been linked to thousands of murders since the 19th century. That hardly makes for much of a comparison.

I guess that it didn't occur to Juan Williams that on September 11th that the 19 people who hijacked the plans were not wearing what he calls Muslim garbs. I guess it never occurred to him that there are some Black Americans are Muslims that dress in the same so-called garb. NPR may not have fired if he had clarified his statement which he refuse to do, and what he said perceive more as a fact than opinion. He did said at the end of his statement that it's just a fact. NPR is not a government agency and within its right to fire anyone who may negatively affect the organization. The fact of the matter is that people need to blame another group when economic times are not good. People are out of work and one of the reasons why the Tea Party exists which begs the question would this party come into existence if the economic condition were doing well and low unemployment.

An interesting contrast: many NPR listeners apparently could not stomach that Williams also appeared on Fox News. But it doesn't seem that any perceptible number of Fox News viewers had any complaints that Williams also worked for NPR. Yeah, sure, "the Fox audience seems to be more tolerant of diversity than the NPR audience".

The Fox audience is made up of primarily undereducated, low information people who have never read a book (fiction or otherwise)in their lives and who rely on Fox telling them what to think. They are not even smart enough to listen to the garbage spouted on Fox and process it througn that empty space at the top of their skull to weed out the nonsense. Few of them have ever had a complex thought because it makes their head hurt.

People who listen to NPR are able to weed out the garbage. It has nothing to do with tolerant.

It has to do with using the sense and brains that God gave them.

    Juan Williams = Uncle Ruckus

Aaron McGruder's cartoon "The Boondocks", has a character named "Uncle Ruckus".

Uncle Ruckus is a dark-skinned older Black man who hates Black people and loves White people.

Uncle Ruckus wakes up in the morning and thanks the White man for sending a lovely day and dispises anything Black people do whether good or bad.

Good old Juan can now shuck-n-jive and jigg as much as he wants while he attacks the First Lady and watch for hi, to go Glen Beck on President Obama.

IMHO, Juan Williams is a typical "porch negro" willing to do the shilling for a bunch whose stated goal to to destroy President Obama. His hard work has finally paid off with him getting getting his own big time tv show on Fox and a large sum of money. Shilling pays.

Maybe Travis Smiley will be next.

But for some reason when I would see him on TV he seemed to be in my mind grouped somewhere in the middle of Armstrong Williams and Thomas Sowell. His comment on Mihelle Obama ws puzzling to me. I think he had better be careful.

I'm reminded of the question Malcom X put to those black PHD's and scholars who were scrambling all over themselves to justify the white man during a debate. "What do you think they call all of you with your degrees and credentials? Nigger. House Negro Indeed.

If Juan believes that he is even dumber that I thought, and he just exposed himself to the entire country."

Juan was speaking about how seeing the Middle-Eastern garb triggered his fears. FYI: feelings are not rational,-- just like 'prejudice' and 'racism' are not rational. But feelings are very human, indeed. People have their prejudices and judgments that are laced with emotions. People react to fear all the time, whether they want to or not. It is inevitable. It's part of being human in an unknown and uncertain world.

The unconscious emotional mind is far more powerful than the rational mind could ever be. It is the unconscious that drives most humans in what they think, say, and do.

Reality vs the way things 'should be' are not necessarily the same. Juan spoke the truth. Having seen Bin Laden videos and photos in his garb causes fear to arise in those he wants to kill.

NPR wants to deny that reality because they 'think' no one 'should feel' that way. People feel what they feel. The people at NPR are disconnected with being human and consequently have come off as cold-hearted and dysfunctional.

Juan is blessed to have been fired from NPR.

The more I think about Juan's comment, the more I realize how dumb and prejudiced it is.

If a Muslim is wearing traditional garb on a plane, then any reasonable person should not be fearful as a Muslim with bad intentions will not draw attention to himself/herself by wearing traditional garb.

A Muslim with bad intention will attempt to blend in (one factor of blending in, in Western culture, is to wear Western garb just as the 9-11 hijackers did.

I have seen a variant of this movie previously, titled "People Proudly Wearing Black Skin Make Me Nervous."

Fuck Juan Williams. He's where he's supposed to be with the rest of the prejudiced and bigoted folks posing as journalism professionals.

NPR has a code of ethics for their journalists. The salient part of that code in this case is that on air talent "should not express views they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist. I think Juan pretty clearly wandered over that line on a number of occasions. He had been warned previously. NPR probably wanted to give him the boot for damaging their brand and Juan just continued to hand them the ammunition. He knew what he was doing and I think he may have done it deliberately to completely cross over to the dark side.

Interesting that you don't hear Anon or any other righties yapping about Sanchez' firing.

    Okay to slander Muslims.

jews and white folks in general are off limits.

Why is it that children such as you can never look at an issue and intellectually discuss it for what it is? Ok so mommy caught you doing something bad, you try and obsfucate that by saying, yeah but johnny did something bad too? What a child you are.

    The real issue is.

Muslims attacked the USA on 9/11. Spin it anyway you want. But I for one will not allow mental midgets like you to outlaw words to hide the truth. I mean look at your role model, it was no longer terrorism, it was manmade disaster ,then just plain outlawed to tell the truth at all (Fort Hood, Muslim killings) The world over recognizes that there are enough muslims who follow the koran and wish to do harm to the infidels. Are they radical? Only if you have never read the Koran, which specifically teaches murder, mayhem and conuquest. Real muslims dont beleive this? Really? Can you show me one, just one Muslim who has stood up and denounced the Koran and the teaching of murder and hate in the name of a pedophile warlord they recognize as gods messenger? Just one.

How do we know Muslims have committed terrorist attacks? They have done so, attempted to do so and told us they have just gotten started in the war against america.

If you want to stay the politically correct buffoon, go right ahead. The most ironic thing is that under Sharia law you wouldnt even be worthy enough to be a slave. Muslims consider you subhuman, Yet here in the US we have so many Black Muslims.

Can you imagine a Strong independant Black woman submitting to Sharia law, doubly intensified because she is Black?

Ahhh, maybe thats it. Steve your women dominate you so much you must have dreams of living under Sharia law so you can beat your wife as part of your religion without getting your nightly spanking when you disobey your wife.

  61. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Happy to see that obsequious little turd go!

". . . It was ironic that Williams' firing came on the day that the 1991 controversy over then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas' conduct toward law professor Anita Hill returned to the news. It was reported that Thomas' wife asked Hill to retract her sexual harassment allegations against Thomas.

Williams was a friend of Thomas and defended him then in a chain of events that ultimately contributed to Williams' departure from the Post. He wrote on the Post's op-ed page that Hill had "no credible evidence" for her allegations of sexual harassment by Thomas, writing that Hill was "prompted" to make her charges by Democratic Senate staffers.

The column angered many women in the Post newsroom, and several came forward to say that they had also had problems with Williams. The Post undertook an investigation.

About 50 female employees met with then-Executive Editor Leonard Downie Jr. and said they objected to the Post's refusal to say how the paper had resolved allegations of verbal sexual harassment against Williams, the Post's Howard Kurtz wrote at the time.

In an open letter to the newsroom, Williams said the newspaper had disciplined him for what he called "wrong" and "inappropriate" verbal conduct toward women staffers, and he apologized to his colleagues, Kurtz reported.

Williams had already so angered one black woman, Jill Nelson, that he warranted a passage in 1993's "Volunteer Slavery," Nelson's memoir about her time at the Post. When the two were working together at the Washington Post Magazine, Williams told the magazine editor, without being asked, that Nelson's submission was unworthy of publication, she wrote.

She quoted herself telling him, "Listen, Juan, don't fuck with me. You know, you're worse than a Negro who carries white folks' water for them, because your own water is dirtier than theirs could ever be. Don't get into my business again. Because if you fuck with me, I'll destroy you. . . ."

Everyone who ordains themselves as arbiters of what is or is not acceptably "black" is just as rigid and one-dimensional as the bigots and brainless they think they evangelize against. Juan Williams simply was honest about a bias that everyone has felt at one time or another since 9/11, and then he went on to say that it was not a good idea to put all Muslims into the same category, because the terrorists are few. It's a bias that you yourself have probably felt too, Mr super-blackness. You just ain't honest enough to admit it.

Brodkin (Caring by the Hour), a professor of anthropology at UCLA, synthesizes much recent scholarship to assess the shifting notions of race?and changing objects of racism?in the U.S. She points out that racial inferiority has been ascribed to waves of immigrants only when they were used as unskilled labor. She notes how "Jewish whiteness became American whiteness" after WWII, when Jews began to speak as whites and Jewish intellectuals "contrasted themselves with a mythic blackness." A self-described secular Jew situated in leftist academic circles, Brodkin somewhat awkwardly weaves familial reflections into her otherwise academic book. While intriguing, Brodkin's treatment is hardly exhaustive. She argues that her New York parents and grandparents "lived in a time when Jews were not white"; however, that focus on Jewish racial self-assignment obscures the somewhat murkier role of Jews in the South, as well as those who ran shops or provided social services in the inner cities of the North. She repeats her overall thesis?that racism and the construction of racial identity is the foundational principle of American identity and American capitalism?over and over, but her argument is no more convincing for all the repetition.

[Audio Review] Conservative media superstar, CBS veteran, and New York Times bestselling author Goldberg (Bias) takes on the liberal media for overwhelmingly supporting Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election campaign. Goldberg uses name-calling, statistics, and personal musings to support his contention that mainstream media has a profound liberal bias. (The amount of liberal Goldberg-bashing in print and online makes for a fair fight.) Implied is the need for listeners to devise strategies for obtaining balanced news coverage. Wealthy Americans whose paramount issue is unlimited support for Israel create huge distortions in U.S. politics, bending presidents to their will. Barack Obama’s career has long been nurtured by one such billionaire hyper-Zionist, who hopes to instigate an attack on Iran.

“Barack Obama has established a strong record as a true friend of Israel, a stalwart defender of Israel’s security, and an effective advocate of strengthening the steadfast U.S.-Israel relationship, publicly stating that Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state should never be challenged.” – Lester Crown

Lester Crown is a Chicagoan with a net worth of four billion dollars. He owns a large stake in and is a former president and board chairman of defense contractor General Dynamics. He also has held large holdings in Hilton Hotels, Maytag (now Whirlpool), and the Chicago Bulls and New York Yankees.

There’s good reason to believe a corner has been turned, with last weekend’s anti-war conference in Albany, New York.

An Anti-War Movement That Won’t Cave to Obama or Israel

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford

“U.S. aid to Israel was the most contentious issue to arise at the conference.”

A renewed anti-war movement is under construction, one that breaks decisively from the Cult of Obama, demands an end to all U.S. aid to the Israeli “apartheid regime,” and calls for “immediate, total and unconditional withdrawal of all U.S. troops, mercenaries and contractors from Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, and the immediate closing of all U.S. bases in those countries.”

Both Obama and McKinney have traveled to the region more than once in the last several months. The president gave a speech in Cairo sternly advising Palestinians to give up violence in pursuit of justice, while seeming to ignore the grossly disproportionate violence, official and unofficial, of the Israeli settler state against them. Obama acknowledged what he called a humanitarian crisis in Gaza without facing his own and the American role in creating that crisis, let alone advancing any measures that would ameliorate it.

““My suitcase,” McKinney told BAR, “was full of crayons. Somebody in authority should explain why crayons and coloring books for Palestinian children are a threat...”

What President Obama calls Gaza's humanitarian crisis is actually a medieval siege, in which Israel, with the full diplomatic and military backing of the US, its principal armorer and banker, has sealed 1.5 million people off from the outside world. For more than two years practically no Palestinians have been permitted to enter Gaza, either from the Israeli-occupied West Bank or elsewhere. Electricity has been cut to a few hours per day and water to a fraction of needed quantities while the Israeli armed forces prohibit Palestinians from purchasing or receiving parts to build, repair or expand capacity. Hundreds of ordinary items needed to carry on civilized life are also banned, including cement, soap, toothpaste, foodstuffs, medical supplies, books, paper clothing and crayons

  103. Obama didn't disappoint his audience, many of whom had
feigned concerns about his candidacy. Phony hand wringing about emails claiming
that Obama is a Muslim extremist was nothing but a ploy to insure that the
Israeli government would get whatever it wanted in an Obama administration.

The Israelis should be rejoicing about the prospect of an
Obama victory. Not only did the Senator repeat the litany of trite pro-Israeli
phrases "only democracy in the Middle East," "special friendship" and so on,
but he promised extra cash to Israel's already bulging United States bank
account. "As president I will implement a Memorandum of Understanding
that provides $30 billion in assistance to Israel over the next decade -
investments to Israel's security that will not be tied to any other nation."

Not that there was ever a reason to worry. AIPAC always
makes sure that Israel gets what it wants from American presidential
administrations. Obama's victory shows that he knows the rules of the game
backwards and forwards. By the time he finished his address at the AIPAC
convention, he had been interrupted by sustained applause
thirteen times and walked away holding the audience in the palm of his
    hand

No, what the coonservatives want is to freely buckdance and slander black folks for the pleasure of their white rightwing massas and never have to suffer andy pushback.

    THAT's not going to happen.

If Williams really IS the liberal he claims to be, he should try to explain his remarks and get back on NPR, which has integrity. Fox has NONE, and YES, it is different now.

Instead, Williams is turning against NPR and feeding into the hands of Palin and other right-wingers. THAT makes him a sellout. He's also a sellout as a journalist, because he knows Fox is not a journalistic enterprise. It's a right-wing propaganda machine.

NPR is a propaganda machine, serving the purposes of the government who runs it. Everything they say is a lie.

FOX leans right, but less so than every other news network leans left.

Bitch and moan all you want, but that's the reason FOX is a success, not that everyone who disagrees with you (aka the majority) is stupid.

Field I think you are right, NPR was looking for an excuse to get rid of Juan Williams. I always have problems with folks are fired for something they say, esp when its said away from the job. It gets a little too close to folks first ammendment rights for my comfortability

I think its a bit hypocritical on NPR's part, despite its liberal leanings it has its own issues with promoting and puttting people of color on the air.

I think Williams should have been disciplined but not fired I have to agree with Jody on this one.

But make no mistake it was a bigoted and absolutely idiotic thing to say. Who has ever hijacked a plane wearing Muslim "garb?" But Juan has been going backward for quite some time. You could almost watch his slow but steady slide to selling out or should I say selling himself to the highest bidder.

    Make no mistake buckdancing pays.

You can't possibly believe that black conservatives are free to have their viewpoints. You have to know that is not true.

I am in an inter-racial marriage. Being a black conservative married to a white woman has not been easy on my husband.

Sadly, the most crap we hear comes from the black community. I truly expected it to be the opposite when we got married. I grew up in an area that doesn't have much diverisity, so I thought it was going to be a real problem for them. For the most part it isn't.

That is my reality. Don't agree with the conservative belief system, that is fine, but don't deny that for the black community it is easily accepted.

Mr Williams is fired for speaking a Truth that most folks have felt ever since 9/11? NPR isn't being honest...they still have Mara Liason on the payroll.
Mr Williams was an Overton Window dodge as the faux 'Liberal' who just had to agree with the 'voice O' reason' spin done by the quasi-Fascist host. The Useful Idiot example of Colmes...who never seemed to be replaced by outspoken and Fact-based Liberals.
NPR went to yuck when st reagan removed the funding.

They are impartial; they expect their reporters to be impartial in the public and private life.

Meanwhile, Fox gives millions to GOP groups. Right on!

    puh-leeze.

Say what you want about Murdoch but the man is a marketing genious.

The majority of the American populace is somewhat moderate and apolitical.

Thus their news viewing will be divided amongst CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC.

However all the hardcore racists, xenophobes and religious nuts are FOX devotees who hang on their every word.

Murdoch markets his product to a very large and faithful demographic.

Well who is preventing you from having conservative thoughts?

    Are you getting beat up?

Are your civil rights being violated?

The problem with black conservatives is that they expect the same pats on the head they get from white conservatives to be offered from blacks and that's not going to happen.

Maybe they don't have POC on the air because of the bell curve philosophy-they don't believe there are Blacks capable?

Afterall, NPR has been very White for- "forever." Yes, they come off as Liberals but one could assume WHITE 'biased' Liberals with the same unconscious prejudicial mind against Blacks as some White conservatives.

At least conservatives are more honest and will voice their prejudice. White Liberals don't say anything about their racism.

After what NPR did to Juan, they have opened themselves up for violators of the First Amendment; and sneaky and deceitful racists.

If they were so concerned about diversity, they would not have fired Juan for what he said. NPR should reflect diversity, AND they should let the public know that is their belief--an 'inclusive' America, not a lilly white America. However, it is not the case now. There will be repercussions in NPR over Juan.

Well, anyone can verbally say something and have a completely different meaning for it that remains unspoken. It's how you can pin the issue of intolerance on your husband's friends and not have to explore any underlying intolerance that arises from yours.

I'm not trying to knock the relationship with you and your husband and of course, he has a right to form his own political opinions and align himself with those of similar political views. But he shouldn't expect others to NOT criticize him for his choice, nor should he expect other Blacks to validate his choice. And the last thing you should be doing is painting yourself as some sort of victim because his choices are coming under fire.

Oh Lawd, I just finished watching a video of Juan and O'Reilly on the Factor. O'Reilly laid into NPR and called the President and CEO of NPR a "pinhead". lol And it appears that NPR is run by two white women who didn't even bother to give Juan the courtesy of telling him to his face that he was fired...after ten years of service! They look like a bunch of spineless gutless people.

I loved it when O'Reilly looked into the camera and said to NPR's President, "you are not getting away with this. we are not going to let this go." O'Reilly even called out Al Sharpton for not speaking out about this flagrant discrimination of a bm by NPR...Juan was the only black man at NPR. That sucks.

Fox is going to beat the crap out of NPR. Fox and the Factor has called for Weiss's resignation. Congress is going to stop all government funding to NPR. Yep. There is going to be a big fallout from this. I hope their investors run away. Who wants to be associated with this racist organization-other than progressive liberal HNs on this blog?

This whole scene is turning out to be quite beautiful. Granny eat your liberal HN Okland heart out.
