FieldLeaks....

Sorry, nothing to leak. Although I know plenty. Still, my profession and actual line of work does not allow me to reveal things that I have heard or know about my clients or people I come in contact with while working my 9-5. There are things that I will take to my grave that could have made me a wealthy man while I was alive. (What are they paying for great movie scripts these days?)

Anyway, A-merry-ca is being gripped by Wikimania, all because some state department employee (or employees) decided to do like Diana Ross and sing to Julian Assange .(To some, the worst Australian since....well, that other bad Australian, Uncle Rupert.) Now his O ness and his peeps are threatening lawsuits and criminal action because of the nature of some of the leaks. I guess it's not cool to embarrass diplomats. Apparently they talk about each other in very unflattering ways, and it's going to make it that much harder to solve the world's problems when they meet face to face.

Honestly, I have yet to make up my mind about this whole Wiki Leaks thing. I want an open government, and I want hard nosed aggressive journalist doing their job, but I also understand the issue of national security; as well as the need to keep certain things from the public. I am just not sure where we are with these latest leaks.

Of course, right on cue with their nuttiness; here comes the wingnuts:

"Long Island Congressman Peter King took his condemnation even further and urged that WikiLeaks be declared a “foreign terrorist organization,” putting it in the same arena as al-Qaida. The Republican also wants WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange prosecuted under the Espionage Act. “They are engaged in terrorist activity. What they’re doing is clearly aiding and abetting terrorist groups,” King, the incoming chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, told MyFox New York."

They always make it so easy for me to choose sides these wingnuts. (Did O'Reilly really call for Assange's execution? Yes, I think he did.)

Oh wait, and let's not forget to politicize this latest scandal. We can never let the chance to take a shot at his O ness go to waste:

"Sarah Palin blasted out a dispatch to her Facebook supporters Monday, taking aim at the Obama administration's handling of the latest WikiLeaks document drop and criticizing the White House's "incompetent handling of this whole fiasco." The former Alaska governor also seemingly encouraged the hunting of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with "the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders."
In her Facebook post, Palin questions the timing of Obama's recent steps to try to patch intelligence holes that have allowed repeated leaks of classified information:
The White House has now issued orders to federal departments and agencies asking them to take immediate steps to ensure that no more leaks like this happen again. It's of course important that we do all we can to prevent similar massive document leaks in the future. But why did the White House not publish these orders after the first leak back in July? What explains this strange lack of urgency on their part?

Palin also takes a shot at the failure to capture or stop Assange, an ineffectiveness that she appears to characterize as a lack of effort or caring by the Obama administration:"

Yes, we must get our priorities right. We have yet to capture OBL, but we must capture the founder of WikiLeaks.

  1. I'm all for transparency and all that with the Government BUT there are certain that should not be leaked. When your dealing with other countries sometimes you have to "pay to play" by hook or crook to get what you want, it sucks, but that's the reality of it. I haven't read most of the documents but from I understand a whole bunch of countries, including ours, was talking a lot of shit. It's going to be interesting. Saudi Arabia, Iran, China and that Alpha Dog, Putin. You think the world didn't trust the USA before..

The cables released so far are 10% of what they plan to release and are simply the newest ones. The entire cache goes back 1966. I have no doubt Obama will look better than most other leaders.

  5. Just imagine if Obama was prez when 9/11 happened?? He would have been impeached and probably hung for being a terrorist sympathizer. Instead we were all told by our corporate media friends to rally around the drunk good ole boy who was gonna go smoke out Bin Laden. How did that work out for us? Three trillion dollars later the dude is still hiding in a fucking cave. Now we have to raise the retirement age and cut social security to find him.

It's about time some of the info on Uncle Sam's dirty deals came out. "National security" are code words for "nothing to see here folks, move along". Go to killinghope.org and read about some of how our beautiful transnational corps have sponsored genocide in our name for at least 70 years.

Field, "But why did the White House not publish these orders after the first leak back in July? What explains this strange lack of urgency on their part?"

The answer is simple. They are a very incompetent bunch. That kind of secret information given freely to the world has hurt the trust of our country worldwide.

That evil maniac must be tracked down and put in prison, including the military American traitor who released all of the information. Al-Quata must love it.

America is more vulnerable to our enemies because of it. We act as though-and rationalize as though- it is it doesn't put America in harms way, but our 'enemies' might see many ways to deal devastating blows to us from it.

The least our apparent apathetic, unconcerned do-nothing-late-to-the-game President could do is at least use words of anger so that not only Americans but 'The World' knows America's outrage:

"Julian Assange, you will not have a moment of peace for the rest of your life because we will hunt you down. And BELIEVE ME, when I say, "We WILL get you, DEAD OR ALIVE" (where is George Bush when we need him?)

Instead, Obama has been quiet as a mouse. He has been talking to the American people without mention of it--as if it never happened.

The 2012 Presidential election cannot come fast enough for me. The way I feel at this juncture, I want Obama and Holder-- OUT!

  7. "(where is George Bush when we need him?)"

You're not the brightest bulb on the X-mas tree, are you? G.W. Bush was the guy who was cutting brush on his fake ranch when they tried to warn him about an attack inside the U.S. He ignored the report because he was lazy and kind of stupid. Then after it happened, him and his crew exploited it to the hilt by grabbing Iraq's oil while letting Bin Laden escape.

Maybe Bin Laden will turn up on Bush's book-signing tour. They do seem to have a symbiotic relationship.

Anon are you the guy who used to come around putting everybody down and parroting the governments line on everything?

You sound like that guy. I find it interesting that you consider yourself a Field Negro. I would like to know why you consider yourself a Field Negro when you support nearly everything the government does. I mean a Field Negro didn't accept most of what master handed down which is why he was a field negro.

But why leave? This is an open forum. I vehemently disagree with your viewpoints, but I get where you are coming from. You support the US in whatever it does and it doesn't really matter if it is right (moral) or wrong (immoral).

And you have to admit that Ernesto has a point you ought to know better than to think that folks trust the US.

It does sound naive, but I know better than to call you naive. You know exactly what you are talking about and exactly why this government does the dastardly things it does. And in your mind its justified.

We simply disagree. I don't think holding folks in Guantanamo is okay or political asasinations or bombing inside countries the US is not officially at war with is right.

I agree that the Wiki leaks folks probably committed a crime, but I think in the end it will serve a good purpose.

Some of the best human beings have committed what some considered to be treasonous for the betterment of humankind.

Even Jesus was considered a traitor to Judaism and to Rome, but it was better for humankind that he not take the side of the established order but showed that there is another way.

No, it was a 22 year old homosexual activist who joined the army for the sole purpose of committing an act of sabotage like this.

Why an army private has access to to vast amounts of sensitive information is something the army and the State Department will have to answer to.

Ernesto thanks for reminding me of that book. Others have published the CIA's history of dirty dealing and mayhem but Blum's book Killing Hope US Military and CIA interventions since WWII is quite comprehensive.

Folks who want to really know what the government does to enable the ruling class to maintain its profits and power and keep the 3rd world impoverished really ought to pick up this book.

The real world and real workings of this government its police and spy agencies and its multi national corporations is indeed hard to believe. But the sooner folks face the truth the sooner we can begin to construct a society that recognized the right of all human beings to prosper.

But you have to understand that certain things you as a citizen really don't want to be secret. For example you would want everyone to know if the government decided to make you disappear, for whatever reason.

People who call themselves intelligent almost never are.

There is "hype" and there are facts and it takes a higher level of discretion to tell the difference than you apparently possess.

You are a fool of the highest order. Perhaps you do mean well, but I think it's more about making yourself feel important in front of impressionable people.

At least Ernesto, deep down, knows his words and thoughts are twisted by unresolved, deep resentments that make the truth unimportant to him (kind of like a little, less successful UTS). You however, seem to be able to fool even yourself. With fools you have made your life and with fools ye shall spend it. Good luck with all that.

  23. Fidel Castro has more reason than most to believe conspiracy theories involving dark forces in Washington. After all, the CIA tried to blow his head off with an exploding cigar.

Castro told a visiting Lithuanian writer, who is known as a font of intriguing conspiracy theories about plots for world domination, that Bin Laden was working for the White House.

"Bush never lacked for Bin Laden's support. He was a subordinate," Castro said, according to the Communist party daily, Granma. "Any time Bush would stir up fear and make a big speech, Bin Laden would appear, threatening people with a story about what he was going to do."

He said that thousands of pages of American classified documents made public by WikiLeaks pointed to who the al-Qaida leader is really working for.

"Who showed that he [Bin Laden] is indeed a CIA agent was WikiLeaks. It proved it with documents," he said, but did not explain exactly how.

Gonzalez had asked Prof. West to comment on Kanye West’s assertion that “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people;” but the professor diverted into criticism of the current Administration. He said he thinks neither Bush nor Obama acts out of “racist motivation and intention,” but that both Administrations inflict(ed) “racist effect and consequence” on people of color, and that their policies have “generated levels of misery among Black people, Brown people, Red people, but especially among the working class poor.”

Cornel West echoed Kanye West in rebuking Obama: “… He doesn’t care about the Black poor: The evidence is overwhelming! … His policies [a]re racist in effect and consequence and especially classist in terms of generating misery among poor people, disproportionately Black and Brown. … The Obama Administration seems to have very little concern about poor people and their social misery: Look at the policies vis-a-vis Wall Street – downplaying Main Street; look at the policies of Black Farmers – a settlement already in place but they don’t want to execute it because they don’t want to be associated with Black folk too explicitly; look at the policies of dilapidated housing; we can go right across the board – look at the policies of the new Jim Crow – the Prison-Industrial Complex.”

    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4377.htm

    War is a Racket.

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

  45. I'm kind of like 'meh' with the WikiLeaks drops. Assange isn't a journalist - he's a sloppy show-boating hacker who happens to stumble upon a big pile of government officials' dirty laundry. So the diplomats talk smack behind each others backs and spy on each others' nations? And in breaking news, water is wet.

I don't heads will seriously rolling after this leak - but it will make international relations a lot harder.

On the positive side, it will make governments a little more scared of hiding important stuff or flat out lying to their people.

My main concern is that Assange is sloppy in protecting his sources. Real journalists go through great lengths to protect a source's identity - otherwise no one would ever come forward for fear of serious reprimand. How long before the diplomat leaker is taken to the pokey while Assange is chilling in the Netherlands doing interviews with lefty mags acting as if he's done no wrong?

@anon, you're right in 2010 there probably aren't as many roadblocks to success as in the past but if you look at class mobility the U.S. is in the middle of the pack for whatever reason. We also have to look at the cumulative effects of racism and sexism. The past has a direct impact on the present. What would have happened if certain people weren't kept out of state schools and kept from voting to improve their lot in life? What if successful people had not been killed, intimidated and had their property stolen? In essence we can't just say ok now things are equal when we all know wealth is generational and the wealthy have more access to good schools and thus have more opportunities than less wealthy. We can play the anybody can make it in 'merica game but we can't blindly ignore the fact that there are many influences that may assist or impede success.

What if that asteroid hadn't killed the dinosaurs?

What are we to do about the past? Sue the Huns for sacking Rome? The Turks for sacking Byzantium? General Sherman for burning Atlanta?

We move on. The rules are now fair, and have been so for almost 50 years. You make amends for the past by living right in the present. Take the hand of those who ancestors were in chains and teach them how to fish and then get back to work.

There are many influences that determine how one's life turns out - family, faith, talent, and luck to name a few - all things that are either bestowed to us by fate or are up to us as individuals to pursue. The only thing we can demand is a even playing field.

  61. Here's my two cents -

Wikileaks is going for small potatoes for calling out what is the international relations equivalent of snarky emails and gossip. And his military leaks a few months ago revealed even less than the Rolling Stones interview with Stanley McChrystal. The war is chaos and soldiers want to go home.

Yes, he got a scope that the mainstream press were too timid to go ahead with. And yes, he's put the US establish into a tizzy. But he didn't the the synthesis required in good reporting - a data dump of quasi-classified field reports and private cables between two foreign service agents talking crap doesn't give much a clear picture. TMI doesn't inform you on anything without analysis.

But he also played relatively it safe. Western nations, warts and all, tend to play by some level of rules and regulations. Sorry to break this to some our more suspicious brethren online, but neither President Obama nor any other Western European leader are going to send ninja assassins to take down a glorified blogger with a God complex for leaking the equivalent nasty emails about the boss. This isn't a Jason Bourne novel. If anything, they'll probably smear him and possibly put him in jail. Still bad, but nearly the kind spy hijinks that some on the blogosphere think it will be.

If Assange has any gonads – he’ll go after China, Iran or even Cuba; countries so secretive that they put the best CIA spooks to shame. Or at the real criminals – the multinational corporations that control so much of our political economy. And to his credit, it looks like he might.

Here's a new revelation that I thought was cool - Wiki Leaks is aiming at the Kremlin.

If this report is even half way true, the Russians all but threaten to put two hollow points in his head if Assange goes ahead with his data dumps. Now this is a government that has no qualms shooting journalists. If Wikileaks goes ahead and does it anyway – that man’s got bigger stones than the Rock of Gibraltar.

Rank is immaterial when it comes to access to sensitive information. The private was granted proper (improper in hindsight) security clearance and he had a need to know. That's all a person needs to gain access to sensitive information.

There is nothing innocent about it. It is calculated to cause as much harm to the U.S. as possible. the individual who stole the documents (Manning) has committed an act of treason, and the individual who has published them (Assange) is an enemy of the United States.

That there are plenty of people on this board who also consider themselves enemies of the United States and therefore applaud this action does not change the facts.

Yes, but were any of these incidents done in the name of their religion? Has anyone yelled "Jesus Saves!" as they tried to kill as many service members as possible?

Christians make up >90% of military; muslims less than 1%.

If some Muslim guy went off and did something crazy, then it's an isolated incident.

But if he explicitly states his purpose as religiously motivated, if he yells "Allah Akbar!" as he kills, then it's different. If this happens a dozen times, it's a pattern.

@UTS: and i don't know how you could be sure that there have been acts of Christian terrorism in the U.S. armed forces; I have never heard any such thing.

The point is this: Timothy McVeigh was left-handed. Do we profile left handed people because of what he did? No, because his left handedness had nothing to do with his actions. Neither did the fact he was white, christian, male, knew karate, registered democrat, etc. When it came to what he did, he was pretty much just Tim.

However, Islam has been expressly cited as a factor in hundreds of terror attacks worldwide in the past few years.

This does not happen with Buddhism, Hindus, Christianity, Rotary club members, Elks, NOI, the Shriners, AAA, Prorityclub members, etc.

It is not abandoning one's commitment to tolerance and diversity to notice that ISLAM IS DIFFERENT.

  95. The first set of Documents WikiLeaks released earlier this year, I didn't make it my duty to read them (because I read everything). I am in my 60's, well informed -know American History, world history, understand how governments work, and I know that if this Government worked the way the US Constitution intended, we would be in good shape.

Now, we have the 2nd set of Wikileaks (involving literally hundreds of thousands of documents), which this Government has known was coming for some time now. I DID read most of these documents this time, and I can tell you this one thing and that is this: Mr. Julian Assange (along with some 22-year-old Private in the US Army) did not do this alone. I realize that computer hackers are good at what they do: Mr. Assange DID NOT get his hands on literally 100's of thousands of Documents from the U S State Department, etc., without someone in upper levels of Government (with Obama's WH), and Holder's Justice Department, turning a blind eye and a deaf ear. It simply cannot be done. You will not see any serious investigations by Holder's (traitor to his core) I consider Obama, as well as Holder guilty of Treason of the highest order.

We all know that Obama's goal is to fundamentally change America, and bring it to its knees. We also know that George Soros' number one goal is to destroy our Republic. If I am not mistaken Mr. Soros is a member of The Open Society Organization as is Mr. Assange. I believe the WikiLeaks (parts 1 and 2) were orchestrated by GS. How would Julian Assange manage to release all these Top Secret Documents, which basically spills the beans on what America thinks about everyone of our enemies and our Allies without the help of someone with very deep pockets, if you get my drift. How does Assange stay alive, where does he get his money. Who pays for his lawyer. Some guy from Australia, aided by a private in the USARMY does this. Simply cannot be none. Obama (with GS's help) allowed this to happen. On top of everything else, this eliminates any chance of Hillary mounting a challenge in 2012 - she is done after this.

The people are being conditioned to accept the strong arm of the Government. DHS is already taking their Gestapo to Buses, Trains, Boats - next thing you will have intra-state check points, then interstate check points. Its coming. Then, this past week-end, the WH ordered DHS via ICE to simply go in and SEIZE 75 domain sites, without any warrants, nothing. The people who owned these Domains had no clue they had violated any laws. The FEDS just went in and S h u t T h e m D o w n!!!!!! Because they could. Last time I checked, ICE was supposed to help enforce illegal immigration. The excuse DHS used was Copy Right Infringement, but if that was the case, that comes under the Department of Justice.

We all know that Obama wants control of the Internet. He wants the Kill Switch. He definitely sees the Alternative Media as his enemy. He basically controls TV News, National newspapers, etc. I definitely believe that Obama has been and continues to be well aware of WikiLeaks. He is the enemy within. He basically is in the process (moving at a lightening pace) of putting the boot to the people's throat. The hammer is coming down. Control of the Internet would be a dream come true for BHO.

GMOs are a very lucrative deal for Monsanto and the U.S. Government. Patented seeds that are contractually prohibited from being saved and replanted, meaning farmers have to buy seeds every year. Replant the seed anyway? Get sued. I don't know how that's gonna work out, unless Monsanto's gonna grow the stuff on their own farmland that's patrolled by native armed guards with Shoot-on-Site orders for anyone desperate enough to steal seed or crops.

Oh, and these seeds are laced with a resistance to Roundup. That means when you spray the stuff on the field, everything but the crop that's innoculated dies. Now imagine if plant and insectoid pests were to develop their own little immunity to the stuff.

    Mr. Mell-

i read and understood fully your initial comment to Consuela. lol.

here is where we part company:

"So my point is that you work with those who are interested in working together"

WHERE in history have you noticed this happening with black folks actually coming up, with black folks' interest FIRST as a result of all this "working together"?

there seems to be a tendency for black folks to THINK they are "working with" others, when in reality blacks are the battering rams to open the door for others. the OTHERS rush in and promptly SLAM the door, barring the bloodied blacks that were the tools used to open the door for them. which quite frankly is what blacks DESERVE for forever trying to make themselves dependent on others. the fact the folks are STILL despite SO MANY examples of this thinking being flawed, preaching this malarky is PROOF that folks will get what their hands calls for.

WHAT is it in bm that makes them think they need so much dang help?! WHY does the convo KEEP coming back to the whole WORKING TOGETHER kumbayah thingy? black folks would do WELL to learn to do for self and select carefully vetted, proven, allies AFTER.

in fact, THAT whole "working together" game is the same one quite a few bm stay trying to play on bw. uh, time out. it hasn't worked outside of black folks and if more bw would be courageous enough to tell it... it MOST DEFINITELY hasn't worked for bw and bchildren. foolish bw fall for the "working together" okey doke only to be slapped silly and mercilessly by sexism. come on now. and frankly, if one refuses to protect their own interests, WHY would they EXPECT someone else to?

i can appreciate you are a man of faith. however, i am going to need you to apply some of that good 'ole DISCERNMENT and FAITH (the kind that comes with WORKS, so that it isn't DEAD) in order for me to co sign. what are blacks doing FOR THEMSELVES? is it working? if it is...THEN... let's talk about some type of partnership. even when speaking of INDIVIDUALS folks can understand that a messy, not together individual is living in a fantasy world to expect a got it together, going places individual to partner with them on ANYTHING. how much more so is this the truth with groups of people. i am not making this stuff up. i am just paying attention.

the negroes running around wanting to link arms with folks with a LONG HISTORY of mistreating bfolks are going to need to MISS ME with their (il)logic. at the very least, not expect me to quietly go along to get along, as it is not happening and i am not sorry about either.

those bfolks running around advocating for others before getting it together for bfolks (which will keep them TOO busy to advocate for others at this point in history) look like fools. and folks tend to bump their heads as a result. see a fool, bump his head. look. see, the knots ALL OVER black folks' heads. which is why obamessiah's stitched up lip is SYMBOLIC. lol. LAA-er Consuela, you crack me up!

    ReplyDelete
  109. uts, IF you are african american, your very existence is PROOF POSITIVE that all the junk folks like to talk about bw is A LIE. IF you would read m scott peck's, "people of the lie" you will learn that devilish folks will lie to you and KNOW they are lying, to get you to believe and act according to the lie that serves THEIR purpose and promotes THEIR interests. maybe THEN you could stop acting like a klansman as it relates to bw? i am NOT holding my breath. lol.

globally bfolks are behaving as though they REALLY believe they are inferior. DESPITE being THE FIRST people and civilization.

white supremacy has mangled your pitifully inadequate brains to the point that you are incapable of recognizing truth. if you could go sit quietly, folks would mistake you for a philosopher. BUT NO! you INSIST on making noise so folks have no choice but to acknowledge what a blithering idiot you are.

black has ALWAYS been cool. and not just for the males my dear. which is why this newer push to make black=criminality/amorality is NOT the business. THE ONLY ones that don't recognize are negroes like yourself; both the males AND females. THIS is also why OTHERS end up with your birthright WORLD WIDE. IF they can get you to devalue it, they can claim it with greater ease.

fools like you are waiting for others to tell you the truth about who you and the womenfolk that birth you are. SURELY you have noticed all the ww running around doing their best to look like pale bw. THEY know. YOU will learn. and the females running around doing their best ww impression are your brain mangled counterpart. desperately they want to appeal to what you OBVIOUSLY want in your broken, dominated, damaged, conquered state. ever notice that only bm like you are looking for the whitest/most white-like bw they can find? lol. it is a damaged bm phenomena. wm that want a ww...get a ww. lol.

bw pretending that they didn't notice other men of the planet...the more dominant ones no less...was to spare the little feelings of males like you. those days are numbered. IF you live long enough to see it fully come to pass, remember i told you. lol. so enjoy your black wife and ww harem and try not to fret too much. and again, i thank you for your contributions to waking more bw up.

and just so you know, i am fully aware that all the junk you talk about bw, you don't even believe. you hateful negroes know you would have washed away in the laundry IF it were not for the bw you publicly disrespect at every turn. not to mention how much MORE than their share bw do once your behinds actually make it to the planet.

you know the daughters of bm ARE desirable and in your perverted, twisted, dominated state you think the only way you will be able to maintain THE ONLY thing bm control on the PLANET (bw and their resources) is by attempting to render us UNdesirable to the more dominant men of the world. because YOU know that if you and those like you, have to stand up and compete as MEN, coming to the table with MORE than an appetite and similar MELANIN,you LOSE. go sit down sicko! i.see.you.

i have no problem with wikileaks. i find the information they release to be quite interesting.

the flip side is that black americans already know this government does all kinds of jacked up things in the interest of maintaining the status quo. with all this integration and the blackish president, i am a little concerned that putting all the dirty dealings on blast won't work so well with my plans though.

back in the day, hijacked planes allowed the black folks off. nowadays...i am not so sure. but then the tsa radiating and groping folks might just keep me off of planes. lol. bottom line, i have figured out how to make america as it is work for me. i don't really need folks mucking it up with all this world wide full disclosure of american practices to give the us an edge. fighting fair with strangers is NOT the business, if winning is the objective.

AB, i see the internet as we know it coming to a screeching halt real soon. not to mention bfolks adding the obama tax to the black tax that must be paid. lol.

Mr. Mell, i don't think you are a fool. i think that statement by Anon was a bit harsh. i do think you are a bit idealistic. the name of the game is survival of the fittest. life is unfortunately NOT fair, otherwise women would be running the world--clearly we are capable. even according to man tales, following men is women's "curse". lol. life is not a race where those that take a false start and run to win are called back and disqualified. sometimes as you write, it seems you think this is how it was meant to be.

hobama is the new mike powell/fcc hnic/white neocon talk radio czar

    shame!!!!!!!!!!!

And there is the 800 pound gorilla in the room: the pending Comcast-NBC merger, which would place a large fraction of the internet backbone into the hands of one of the biggest producers of corporate content, a staggering vertical monopoly with endless potential for abuse. Though the merger has been pending since the opening days of the Obama administration, the president's FCC and Department of Justice are silent as sphinxes on the matter, while Comcast is raining money on members of Congress, and black and Latino advocacy groups such as LULAC, the Urban League and the NAACP. Can this notoriously corporate-friendly president ever bring himself to say no to Comcast-NBC?

It doesn't take rocket science to predict what the craven and corporate-friendly Obama administration wants to do. The president is already doing what he intends to do. His telecom lobbyist-in-chief at the FCC isn't opposing the Comcast-NBC merger because the president doesn't intend to. There's no assertion of FCC authority over the internet because President Obama won't choose the public interest over corporate interests here either, any more than he has done anyplace else. The president can stall another month, and a new Congress will be in town. Then he can crow a little, but not too loudly or forcefully, about being for internet neutrality again, but how tea party Republicans in the Congress are holding it up. That's what the president has done, and what we can reasonably expect he'll do.

The question now is what will what was once thought of as the movement for media justice do. Will it hold its breath another year, waiting to be noticed by the president? Will it forget its own problems and come together to re-elect Barack Obama for a second term? After all, Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are worse, right?

Despite oceans of evidence, many self-described “progressives” still refuse to recognize Barack Obama as the warmongering servant of Wall Street that he is. They continue to hover like flocks of groupies, eager to debase themselves for a politician that despises them. The Left – or what’s left of it – is held in deepest contempt by this president and his handlers. “It is long past time for serious lefties to leave” Obama and his fellow corporate Democrats, “once and for all.”

.). And last but not least, it misunderstands Obama and other top Democrats. They don’t want to be pushed or prodded by progressives, radicals, and serious liberals at all. They have no respect or regard for us. We are “the girl” they “take under the bleachers but …won't be seen with in the light of day" (Madrak). They don’t look forward to the time when we have the capacity and willingness to meaningfully pressure them from the bottom up. They work effectively to prevent the development of such willingness and capacity. They think we are hysterical, undisciplined, wild-eyed fanatics and unrealistic windmill-tilters. They want us to STFU and give them our time, votes, and money, with the understanding that our needs and agenda are irrelevant and that we are “all in this together” against Sarah Palin and the Tea.O.P. They relate to us like an abusive, controlling partner. It is long past time for serious lefties to leave them once and for all. How many more “hippie punches” do we need to take to the gut from the likes of Rahm and Barack et al before we get it that they hate us: I encourage serious lefties to reciprocate the feeling

There are five corporations that own corporate media. FIVE as oppose to the FIFTY twenty years prior.

We sit up here and accept that there is poor representation in hip hop but gobble up everything through the SAME COMPANIES that GIVE YOU these exotic tales of ghetto life.

Wouldn't that extend to the interests of the Pentagon?

As StopBigMedia.com puts it, lapdog journalism fails to educate and inform the public by serving cheap hyper-commercial fare.

I watched carefully throughout the 80's & 90's how hip hop was handled by corporate media. That is before big media was reduced to five companies.

Why is it that NOBODY is calling the info on WikiLeaks conspiracy theories?

    ???
    ???

Verified documents or not. If Erica Badu is strategic enough to "leak" disinformation about herself, don't you think egghead professional military strategist surrounded by teams of psychologists have just a little intelligence. Possibly just enough brain cells to figure out the use of propaganda? Just possibly?

What I meant was the way corporate media handles Wikileaks.

They treat it as authentic. When have you ever witnessed corporate media giving total fair coverage of some entity that is threatening to their games?

Look at hip hop again. Corporate media went at it HARDER, was MORE BELLIGERENT in it's coverage than it does today. Why? It's worse in content than it ever was.

The meat & gravy of it, stockholders, profits, investors is their bread & butter. Whenever something threatens that, they either make it disappear by ignoring it or create a counter. As Glenn Beck is to Alex Jones.

They both talk about Obama. However at the end of the day Beck supports division. Divide and conquer. Beck is nothing more than a counter to Jones because he would fill a void for all those redneck/patriot/militia dudes.

WikiLeaks has gained world-wide attention for disseminating sensitive diplomatic documents. Mr. Assange told Forbes magazine that a release of "tens or hundreds of thousands of documents" in early 2011 would reveal "flagrant violations" and "unethical practices" at a major U.S. bank, according to the interview posted online Monday. He didn't name the institution, but at least one banking analyst pointed to BofA as a probable target in light of the earlier Computerworld interview.

The bank's shares closed at $10.95, down 36 cents, on the New York Stock Exchange.

Few financial institutions have been under more public scrutiny than Bank of America, with thousands of pages of emails, notes and sensitive regulatory conversations aired via congressional hearings and investigations.

FP-"there seems to be a tendency for black folks to THINK they are "working with" others, when in reality blacks are the battering rams to open the door for others. the OTHERS rush in and promptly SLAM the door, barring the bloodied blacks that were the tools used to open the door for them. which quite frankly is what blacks DESERVE for forever trying to make themselves dependent on others. the fact the folks are STILL despite SO MANY examples of this thinking being flawed, preaching this malarky is PROOF that folks will get what their hands calls for."

You speak raw truth. IMO, it is as though Blacks are in a 'trance'(i mean it literally), that has been induced during childhood,- to do for 'others' without regard to themselves. It's as if we have been taught to not think of ourselves,- but to be "battering rams" for the rest of humanity- and hope to get some crumbs of human respect and some reciprocity for it. It really is sick and quite frankly, there is NO WAY a race of people could POSSIBILY think well of themselves, let alone be respected by others. You are right,- we DESERVE what we get, which is NOTHING.

FP-"WHAT is it in bm that makes them think they need so much dang help?!"

IMO, when I look at the Black family today, there is little interactive support between fathers and 'sons'. Most nurturing, and guidance of sons comes from the mother(if the son is fortunate). This sets the son up to becoming a sort of a 'Mama's boy' i.e. a dependency on Mom and other bw-not because the Mother wants it to be that way, but because the male father isn't around to do his part as husband and father.

It's been generations(mostly) of this kind of spawning and I really don't hold out much hope for the bm waking up to this. While there are exceptions, the majority of bm are in trouble, and by extension, the bw. So we need to stay busy helping other races advance because we either are afraid to try to come together ourselves...our maybe the truth is we lack the heart to care for ourselves. Either way, EVERYONE, it seems, sees us the GREAT SACRIFICE for the well-being of others. In short, Blacks are throw aways.

However, I see some "movement" among 'some' bw to change this perverse of thinking and living. But it is STILL marginal, most are stuck in the old way of living. Only time will tell if the "new way" will bear fruit. I really hope so.

I am honored to know a father who cares and makes a conscious effort to provide his son with fatherly support and male discipline. That is the most important thing for a son, esp. a Black son. Yet you previously claimed that you are paying out "55%" of your income to child support, which is obviously a financial struggle for you. How will you ever build wealth or comfortable fin. security for yourself and a future family with that percentage? Not to mention, the woman collecting "CS" for a child YOU seem to be raising (which I commend btw) is a white female who's presently in relationship with YET another black male. Interesting.

Don't take that as a disrespect, it wasn't meant that way. I mentioned that because situations like this are also worth exploring, and there are dots to be connected. Too much to get into right now.

  144. AB, thanks for reminding me about the movie Sankofa. It came out when I was in high school and I still didn't get the chance to watch it up until this morning on youtube. LOL. Thank yah!

It was a good film with lots of interesting messages, including a good message of "kinship" particularly between black Americans and black Caribbeans. (Was Steve was a descendant of that head slave who enjoyed watching the two black women getting whipped?)

Another thing I picked up was an insidious message for black women to continue staying wary of the "white man" regarding personal relations. I say that because of how the film first began with the white male photographer and the black female model appearing "intimately sensuous" and used as provocation for Sankofa's annoyance, hence claims of disrespect on historical grounds.

Then it almost seemed as if one of the central atrocities of slavery the black female protagonist eventually had to be reminded about was the rapist white slave owner. This is true, but still, was the modern day photographer being white somehow germane? LOL. Maybe it's just me, I would have to explore that further and refine my interpretation.
