Can you stop a weasel with a pitchfork?

I swear, every time I see that little weasel, Mitch McConnell, I want to take a pitch fork to his dome. (I am speaking metaphorically so save your damn e-mails.) I love you Claire McCaskill, let's raise our pitchforks together. These wingnuts can try to spin this tax brake for wealthy folks anyway they want to, it's still a tax break for folks who don't need it, and it will cost us money, damn it! I thought that they wanted to reduce the deficit.

And now, to add insult to injury, "the One" has decided to go ahead and cut a deal with the weasels of Washington. Wingnuts are crying a river, and they claim that raising taxes during tough times for any A-merry-can would be wrong. Bulls^%t! Not raising taxes for high end wage earners will cost us more than the extended unemployment benefits and the payroll tax cuts combined. His O ness wanted those things in his little deal with the devils. Not enough! -BTW, I am writing this as someone who would be hurt more than many of you reading this by these cuts, so I come to this debate from a position of moral rectitude.-

"Administration officials sought to cast the deal in a positive light, saying many of the new provisions would do more to accelerate the economic recovery than the tax cuts at high income levels.

But Congressional Democrats have expressed increasing anger that the payroll tax cut and the jobless aide, which Mr. Obama demanded in exchange for continuing the Bush-era tax rates for the highest-income Americans, were not enough in return for such a big concession.

The payroll tax cut would put about $120 billion back in the pockets of workers and the unemployment benefits would cost about $60 billion, officials said. Continuing the lowered tax rates for the highest-earners, by contrast, would cost the government $700 billion in lost revenue over the next 10 years, according to budget analysts.."

Do you hear that O? SEVEN HUNDRED BILLION. (With B) Remember that figure come 2012 when the little weasels in Washington are slamming you about the budget deficit.

Still, I am glad to hear that hard working folks who lost their jobs and now depend on their unemployment benefits might be spared. Folks like Felicia Robbins might still have a happy holiday. You know who won't have a happy holiday? Folks like yours truly who are sick and tired of seeing the weasels in Washington get over on hard working people.

I know what I want from Santa this Christmas: a nice pitchfork.

I am truly disappointed. I wonder if Hillary would have had more backbone than the O-Man.

I was an early adopter, my kids have Obama shirts, I volunteered for the Texas primary, I made calls to other states, I gave money. I still have the sticking bumper sticker on my car; I am not giving up. HOWEVER, Obama reminds me of an abuse victim who thinks it's their own fault they get beaten and deserve the abuse.

It is time to fight back. If the Democrats can't convince people that a minor tax increase on the top 5% of earner is prudent move to deal with the debt then why do we bother.

I need some drama from No Drama Obama. I need a fighter not a marshmellow in Washington.

Now that the deal has been made, the stock market will see some action. BTW, Field, I suggested to you a few weeks ago to add gold and silver to your portfolio, and you scorned me,- telling me I didn't know what I was doing.

Well, Mr. know-it-all, gold and silver has nearly doubled my portfolio. Do I need to tell you why gold and silver are on fire?

Or maybe I should... considering you are a dem, free, over 21 and a black progressive liberal who couldn't beat a Republican at anything. You poor libs just don't have the endurance, backbone, maturity or mental capacity to win any negotiations against the GOP.

Politically, the REPUBS are just too much for you weaklings to handle.:)

Now Mr. Field, buy some gold and silver before it's too late!

  6. i agree Chris, don't blame Mitch McConnell. He's honet about who he is and I respect that. Obama is the problem, if he's not pandering to the banks and insurance industries, then he's pandering the the Republicans. The only people he can ignore is his base and especially poor Black America. Actually had it not been for so many white people on unemployment then Obama would not have been for the unemployment extension. He and Bill Cosby would be all over Fox news trying to score some republican points by saying "Shaquita need to stop collecting unemployment and go get a job at walmart!"

In my line of work, I move large amounts of money...not my money...on a screen. When you have the power to play with and manage more money than the average person will ever earn in their lifetime, it's easy to have a cavalier attitude towards such large sums...think of a 20 something with a sugardaddy or sugarmommy's exclusive credit card with no limits.

Sounds awful, but really, no one should get tax cuts. I saw the Fed Chairman lie...Lie....LIE to us all on 60 minutes. There, I said it. I do agree with extending unemployment, but this can't keep happening forever. Roland Martin further pointed out where most of us stand in the scheme of things...Unemployment extended for about 1 more year, Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy extended for 2 years.

Jody has the right idea, but I say that will never happen for three reasons...1. Too many people are too lazy or self serving to get off their asses and March on Washington 2. Even if they did, police and armed forces that are EMPLOYED will put down the mob as ordered. They are not there just to keep law and order, but to protect the elite banksters and the ilk that wanted to keep the tax cuts for the top 2%. 3. Most people have a delusion that they will one day be Oprah wealthy. While I would never crush your dreams, I believe in looking at facts and mathematical odds. The odds are you will never join that club. Please, ignore your wingnut and blingnut preachers and look out for your own interests. Stop idolizing people who want to piss or trickle down on you.

Poor Charlie Rangel. He needs to retire. Censuring him is like giving out speeding tickets to the loser in a NASCAR race. I can think of a lot of people in DC that are far more corrupt. Oh well, if you're black or brown, you'd better keep your nose clean.

Anon @9:33 has a point. The idea of buying silver or precious metals may possibly allow you to eat and pay rent when the greenback collapses ala Germany after WWI. Thanks to the fed, that dollar in your pocket is not really worth what you think.

  16. Field I feel your frustration with Obama, but the problem is that Obama faces is hardcore united Right and a meandering left. He also the GOP are holding out the START treaty and the extension of unemployment benefits. So Obama wouldn't be the Sold Out Nigger who gave billionaires a tax cut. He would have been the Do-Nothing Nigger who just raised everyone taxes and squashed unemployment benefits during a recession.

Also, realize the conservative Democrats and the GOP aren't going to budge, because they don't have to. They just have to hold the ball and blame the tax hike on Obama.

Also, if we want to call Obama a weak corporatist sellout, the Democrats in congress were just as chicken shit as Obama, if not more so. As O'Donnell pointed to Anthony Weiner on the Last Word, Pelosi and her crew had ample time to pass the middle class tax extension before the election in the House. Pelosi was so worried about being labeled the Tax and Spend Liberals during a tough midterm that she refused to put it on the line.

So it's another case of blaming the O-man for everything, while not seeing the big picture.

Yes, Obama needs a little more fire in the belly. And yes, he's doing a lot of things we would have killed Bush over. But, the reality is that the Democrats know that their base is too fickle for a real fight (look at how we're all bitching now) and the GOP only have to appeal to cynical and stupid to succeed.

Obama is just trying to do what Slick Willie did - "triangulate". It worked for Bill, and now that Obama has kicked Hillary to the curb by allowing the Wikileaks dump, he won't have a serious challenge from his own party to worry about.

Now that the Republicans have stopped this tax hike madness, the economy will take off and things will get so much better even Obama will look OK.

Sandra, "The Democrats dealt President Obama a bad hand and now they want to turn the tables, legislation starts with Congress."

Legislation starts with Congress, but Leadership starts with the President, and Obama has been a weak leader.

The Dems took a risk with Obama's healthcare bill and lost a majority in the House because of it. Obama convinced them to follow their conscience and do what was right instead of politics. It cost them seats in Congress, left the President without a political base, has caused dissention among the Democrats, and gave political power to the Republicans.

The President is a lame duck and can only hope to be able to work out a compromise with the Republicans on anything going forward. The only thing that will save face for the President is the economy turning around fast enough to put Americans back to work. That will take a miracle.

  40. This is no compromise, more like collusion. Both parties are corporate puppets, and the wingnuts that called Obama a socialist are looking more ridiculous than ever. If that were possible.

By the way, the health insurance bailout would have been popular if it was actually reform instead of Max Baucus et al. giving their sponsors another massive handout. Wingnuts never complain about corporate welfare for some reason.

The United States, once a world leader in quality of life indicators such as education and a social safety net, continues to devolve towards a morally bankrupt, third world joke thanks to the short-sighted greed of its most predatory 2 percent.

Like children attracted to Disney movies, liberals have yet to grow up and accept responsibility for their own existences.

So, here are the ten top ways the liberal view of reality resembles a Disney movie:

    10) Liberals' entire universe is divided into Good Guys and Bad Guys, Nice People and Mean People, Us. vs. Them.

    9) Liberals are powerless; their puny little lives are controlled by big ugly mean monsters or corporations that don't care and want to hurt them.

    8) Birds and animals and fish and trees can think and feel and talk.

    7) Transportation can be effected with little or no fuel consumption, via vehicles such as broomsticks, magic carpets and pixie dust. Much like the cute little hybrids and electric cars liberals love.

    6) There is no God, just an unreasoning faith in some inchoate force you might as well call "The Circle of Life."

    5) Reality revolves entirely around what they are thinking, feeling and experiencing, as if the universe were a movie in which they had the starring role.

    4) Nobody understands or appreciates them. And this fact is somehow of the utmost importance.

    3) Collapsing in a puddle of tears is an effective coping strategy; they expect someone to turn up who actually cares.

    2) There's no hope at all for a happy ending unless someone more powerful than they magically comes and saves them. In their case, though, it's not a fat genie or a fairy godmother. Instead, it's some heroic and compassionate government initiative.

And the Number One way that liberals view the world as a Disney movie...

    1) To get something, they don't think they should have to plan for it or work for it or sacrifice. Instead, they should only have to want the thing a whole, whole, whole, whole lot. (Wishing on a star optional.)

    ReplyDelete

  46. FN, i hate to break it to you but the time for pitchforks and torches was in 2000, when an unelected court decided to take away the elected president and replace him with a corrupt loser. i'm sorry Gore didn't have the balls to lead that fight, because american democracy died the day he tossed in the towel.

since then, it's been increasingly obvious that this is a kleptocracy, and that the Rule of Law is not in force for the rich, and that our political process is completely determined by money. Citizens United was merely the last nail in the coffin. Obama is a symptom of the disease, and not the cause, and it was obvious to anyone paying attention to his actual voting record and policy statements that he would act in favor of the rich more than than the poor. people just didn't want to hear that during the primaries, they fell for the marketing of "hope and change." i understand why, it's hard to look reality in the face. most people would prefer to watch a lot of TV and pretend what they see there is "real."

but that laziness has pretty much doomed the country. we're a banana republic now, and it's only going to go downhill from here. soon, people will come to understand that we're also actually a police state. gays and muslims will likely be the first targets, judging from the rhetoric, but "out" liberals and leftists with a record of speaking up for democracy will also be scapegoats and imprisoned. my advice to all who can? get out. just leave. this country is at the point where countries like Chile or Germany or China were, before the military takeover. soon, people like us won't be allowed to leave. Menken had it just right: fascism is here, and it's draped in a flag and carrying the cross.

It's funny that everyone can talk about what should be going on. I would love to see some of the critics-not just here on this board-but everywhere run for office-any office and see what they are up against. What will they be willing to compromise to get at least a little bit of what they want.
If there had been more compromising in the past we wouldn't be in this situation now. Obama is damned if he doesn't and damned if he does. Am I the only one who knew that his campaign was a wishlist? And if he is allowed (and I say allowed cuz he got shit coming at him left and right) to do fulfill it, he will? I really didn't think he was just going to do what he wanted and actually get it done they way he wanted to without having to compromise. We've already been down that lovely road of lack of compromise before and look where that got us.
If he didn't have to compromise then in that case we wouldn't have a democracy, we'd have a monarchy. And his word would be final good or bad and people still wouldn't be happy. Then we'd have a revolution. And history would blame still Obama. Meh
Yes, I continue to sip on the kool-aid-I take a splash in my coffee every morning.

Now there's a big, fat softball served up by the uniformed moonbat mind.

Social spending is the largest item in our federal budget.

Social security and medicare alone make up over 40% of the budget. Defense is 20%. In third place is interest payments on our debt.

In 2010, the US paid $414 billion in interest on the debt. For comparison, the NASA budget was $19 billion. Education was $93 billion. Crazy enough for you? Just wait. Obama and the democrat congress have exploded the debt to the point that soon, interest payments will be the largest single government expense.

    That was easy.

  63. So now Obama is planning to spend $60 billion a year on tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires rather than, for example, a national infrastructure plan that would rebuild America and put people back to work. It’s hard to see how the president will benefit either politically or substantively from this latest reversal of policy -- caving on the tax cuts will only embolden GOP leaders, who already see Obama as weak and unprincipled, and will further deflate restless Democratic activists and Obama supporters. If this is how Obama plans to govern in the future, we’re in for a rough next two years.

UPDATE: Five major progressive groups--MoveOn, Democracy for America, TrueMajority, Credo Action and the Progressive Campaign Change Committee--are now urging the Senate not to ratify the imminent Obama deal. Says DFA chair Jim Dean: "Voters - and activists - are not buying the notion that tax cuts for high income earners are the only path to extending the middle class tax-cuts. As for any Democratic members of Congress who are going along with extending the tax cuts for high income earners -- this is the stuff that primaries are made of."

    shame.

kudos to obama for 13 more months of temp mercy on a few poor...but the bloodiest cuts are yet to come for us all...

In 2008, Obama presented himself as a clean break from the Bush and Clinton dynasties and a fresh face for the nation and the world. Yet once in office he packed his White House with holdovers from the Bush and Clinton administrations and continued or even accelerated key Bush-era policies, whether in the realm of counterterrorism, Afghanistan or offshore drilling. The latest "compromise" on the Bush tax cuts, extending the upper-income tax cuts for two years in exchange for the continuation of unemployment benefits, is simply the latest in a series of capitulations from the Obama White House.

McGuire: "Social security and medicare alone make up over 40% of the budget. Defense is 20%. In third place is interest payments on our debt."

Military spending accounts for a majority of "discretionary spending", meaning money that has not been deisgnated mandatory by congress. Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid have been made mandatory since we are supposedly a civilized country that would like to maintain the impression that we are a civilized country. This means that we don't want tourists to come here and see masses of people begging in the streets and searching garbage cans for food. That would not look good when compared to our soaring rhetoric about the evils of other economic systems besides our own.

Even though military spending is "discretionary" it is pretty much untouchable because it has become another form of corporate welfare. See Eisenhower's speech on the miliary industrial complex.

Where's your outrage about corporate welfare?

He has no historical reference so he equates totalitarianism with communism.

And he has been taught well by his masters because he has no clue about the damage of capitalism in the world even though its obvious. He isn't aware of how early capitalist treated workers like so much garbage to be thrown out. He doesn't even recognize Hitler as a capitalist.

He doesn't even count the lives lost in US and other capitalists adventurism in the world. He can't even remember that the capitalists dropped an atomic bomb, twice.

I bet he doesn't let the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghans --who have died for a reason he can't give -- even enter his consciousness.

He and too many people like him are the reason there is no real working class pushback in this country.

And BTW if capitalist can take from your labor and only give you back what they think you are worth then wouldn't it only be fair that poor workers indeed should be entitled to some kind of old age social security.

Purple Cow actually said..."I never said words are meaningless, and Lenin was never a dictator."

The words "Lenin was never a dictator" are pretty damn meaningless, cow. And morally retarded, as well.

As leader of the Bolsheviks, Lenin had a primary role in setting up the entire Soviet system. Once established, he had near complete control of the government. He set up the first labor camps and brutally repressed dissenters. After his socialist policies had collapsed the economy and the cities ran out of food, he instituted the mass confiscation of food from the countryside, initiating the mass famine of 1921-1922.

Lenin and Trotsky killed 4 million people - men, women and children - by mass executions, death camps, and state-caused famine.

And you think Lenin was a great guy. You don't have any friends, do you?

cow sneered: "I mean how are you supposed to deal with a man who thinks China and the Soviet union were 'progressive' states"

Modern Progressivism is not a leftist ideology? The same left that brought us the totalitarian leftist states of the 20th century?

Sorry cow, but history shows us that's it's as hard to be a little bit totalitarian as it is to be a little bit pregnant. The difference between modern progressives and the communists of generation ago is a mater of degree, not principal, and not all that much at that.

  86. McGuire, five minutes spent reading hysterical far-right websites does not a historical perspective make.

"The words "Lenin was never a dictator" are pretty damn meaningless, cow. And morally retarded, as well."

Gosh really? The words 'Lenin was never a dictator' are meaningless?? That's really odd, because to me they have real meaning. They mean that Lenin was never a dictator. That's quite a bit of meaning if you ask me. Now you can argue that my statement was wrong, but it is not meaningless. This suggests that you are desperately making this shit up as you go along.

To describe Lenin as a dictator shows a fundamental miss-understanding of the Soviet system of governance. Lenin's hold on the Politburo was fragile at best. To be a dictator you would ( by definition) have total control, to be able to dictate everything that happened in the Soviet Union.

As for "Lenin and Trotsky killed 4 million people" - that shows simple pig ignorance on your part. Try getting yourself a proper education. Not easy in America I know - but give it a go.

"And you think Lenin was a great guy. You don't have any friends, do you?"

I never once said that Lenin was a great guy, I do not believe that Lenin was a great guy. Nothing I have written would convince an intelligent reader that I think Lenin was a great guy.

I have many friends - some of whom are even white.

"Modern Progressivism is not a leftist ideology? The same left that brought us the totalitarian leftist states of the 20th century? "

In many ways the Soviet Union and China were Far-Right states. They operated a system of state owned capitalism. In a marxist society apparatus the state would have withered away.

"Sorry cow, but history shows us that's it's as hard to be a little bit totalitarian as it is to be a little bit pregnant."

Or a little bit intelligent in your case.

"The difference between modern progressives and the communists of generation ago is a mater of degree, not principal, and not all that much at that."

This is where being as stupid as you gives you an advantage. it's hard to know how to respond rationally to a statement as feeble-minded and just plane wrong as this one. I will say this though, you can hardly slip a cigarette paper between the social views of the Taliban and Sarah Palin, and between the right wing totalitarian states and people like you. Fiurther
