Our black president: Sarah does Haiti.

I am watching "G" on the tele while I get ready for my birds. (Hey,whatever happened to Chenoa Maxwell?) I better get this post in or I won't have time to do it later.

So it finally took a Havaaad professor to tell A-merry-ca what black folks already know: that his Oness, in spite of his white mama, is black. And I know that I tease and call him the beige president and half and half, but I knew it too. Please believe that the one drop rule is still in effect here in A-merry-ca. It's why that clown who used to have the great golf game before he started playing like he was a young Hugh Hefner had us black folks laughing when he tried to come up with some exotic name to define himself. Yea right Tiger, and I am a Jamaricanegro.

Anyway, there is now academic evidence that most A-merry-cans view his O ness as a black man, first:

"A recent study out of Harvard University has concluded that the typical adult American sees mixed-race Americans like Barack Obama and Halle Berry as being more black than white. The study, conducted by Arnold K. Ho, a doctoral student of Psychology at Harvard, says that even when bi-racial people are equally mixed with both the white and black races, they are seen as being more black than white.

Ho conducted the study with James Sidanius, a Professor of Psychology and African American studies, also at Harvard.

The authors interpret their findings to relate to the "one-drop rule," based on a 1662 law in Virginia that connected mixed-race individuals to their lower social class. Even as recently as 1985, a Louisiana court ruled that a woman with a black great-great-great-great grandmother could not claim that she was white on her passport.

"One of the remarkable things about our research on hypodescent is what it tells us about the hierarchical nature of race relations in the United States," Sidanius said. "Hypodescent against blacks remains a relatively powerful force within American society."' [Source]
"Hypodescent", that's a fancy word, what dat mean?

"In societies that regard some races of people as dominant or superior and others as subordinate or inferior, hypodescent is the automatic assignment of children of a mixed union or mating between members of different socioeconomic groups or ethnic groups to the group that is considered subordinate or inferior.[1] The opposite practice is hyperdescent, in which children are assigned to the race that is considered dominant or superior.

Parallel practices include agnatic descent and cognatic descent, which assign race according to the father or mother, respectively, without regard to the race of the other parent. Since either parent (or both) might be of mixed-race, hypo- and hyper-descent can operate in tandem with, or separately from, a system of agnatic or cognatic racial assignment."

Thank you. That explains a lot.

And it's not only Obama. Halle, this means you too. I guess having that white boyfriend didn't help much.

Finally, I see where my girl Sarah is down in Haiti getting her missionary work on.
Good for her. Although I hear that her trip has more staging than a Broadway play. (Sorry folks, only FOX NEWS allowed.)

“I’ve really enjoyed meeting this community. They are so full of joy*,” . “We are so fortunate in America, and we are responsible for helping those less fortunate.”

Yes they are Sarah. They are a joyful bunch those Haitians.

Anyway Sarah, I hope you read my blog before you leave, because I have some travel tips on Haiti for you:

1. Caribou does not mean I love you in Creole.

2. Papa Doc was not the name of a famous pizza company there.

3. Port-au-Prince was not named after a famous American pop star.

4. Those little black things you see running around are children, not baby grizzly bears.

5. I know it seemed like a short flight but Haiti is not a part of Louisiana.

6. And, finally, whatever you do; please don't tell them that you are there on behalf of FOX NEWS to investigate their pact with the devil.

Go Birds!!!

Palin is a good hearted person and would make a good President-far better than the present one.

Face it. Some of you FN people are just prejudiced narrow-minded folks. Moreso than the ones you accuse of being racists. Rudy, you are a pathetic little person who needs to be on the next experimental spaceship to Mars.

And save your stupid ghetto comment. Everybody knows what it is: "Field, the trolls are out, please put up the troll sign."

  12. From a review of "The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama, by David Remnick:

As an American boy growing up in Indonesia and Hawaii in the aftermath of the civil rights movement, Obama was in a confusing position. He looked black, but he didn't know any blacks. He was descended from slave owners but not from slaves. Most disorientingly, Hawaii—where he was brought up by his white grandparents—lacked even those lingering remnants of racism, the exposure and expunging of which was, by the 1970s, the main preoccupation of the burgeoning establishment that had grown out of the civil rights movement.

Obama began "giving himself instruction on how to be black." He wrote letters to his father that went unanswered. He sought out military servicemen to play basketball with, in hopes of learning their slang. In college, Obama read deeply in black literature and history. He gravitated towards community organizing in poor black neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago. At law school he took a lot of classes in civil rights law, and then took up civil rights work. As a lecturer at the University of Chicago, he taught a course called Current Issues in Racism and the Law. He sought out as a mentor the fiery advocate of "black-liberation theology," Jeremiah Wright.

Bobby Rush demolished Obama in his first race for Congress in 2000, largely by raising doubts among inner-city voters about Obama's "authenticity." Rush, who still seems to carry considerable resentment from the campaign, alleges that Obama even taught himself to walk like a black person, with a kind of "sashay," as Remnick calls it, that Rush gleefully imitates for him.

"There's a certain break at the knees as you walk and you get a certain roll going. Watch. You see? And he's the first President of the United States to walk like that, I can guarantee you that! But, lemme tell you, I never noticed that he walked like that back then!"

Obama is, racially speaking, a self-made man. If there were a citizenship examination for blackness, he'd have passed it. Remnick hints that Ann Dunham's idealization of black people may have rubbed off on Obama, and that it may be responsible for the immodesty that is his besetting flaw. Remnick sees that blackness can, in some circumstances, be deployed to great effect on the political stage—and that the 2008 presidential election was one of those circumstances. A Chicago Tribune journalist describes Obama to Remnick as "radiating the sense that ‘You're the kind of guy who can accept a black guy as a senator.'"

  13. As if the Haitians didn't have enough problems, Sarah Palin, the Pageant Queen of the Know-Nothings, has descend upon them.

This is yet another substance-less stunt from Palin, thinking that walking amongst Haitians like a 'Save the Children' commercial will give her the humanitarian cred she lacks.

Sorry, but a few snapshots with starving Black children does not wash away the fact that you tried to insight a stealth race war in the 2008 election and continue that stealth race war with the President today.

Yes, Haitians are poor, desperate and have a host of problems. But they're not stupid and can see through this rather ridiculous farce. There have been plenty of rich Hollywood types hoping to save Haiti since the quake, the Haitian people know the hustle. Sarah ain't fooling them.

Let's hope that middle America can see it as well. But don't hold your breath.

  15. To several other posters who want to the jump on the hold Obama is a Halfing bandwagon- Obama is black and probably grew up with a more acute awareness of his Blackness (or at least 'other-ness) than most of us Yardies, Guichees and Hood rats could imagine, being that he was the only Black person he actually knew. And the fact that he strived to embrace his fellow African Americans in adulthood says a lot about how he seems himself.

Also, because of the '1 drop rule', cops ain't never stopped to ask a light-skinned brother if his momma was Creole or Dutch as before suppressing his civil rights and beating his ass.

Because I went to an Ivy in the late 90's, I met plenty of cats like Obama - young brothers and sisters who were the only ones in their neighborhood and initially didn't really know how to relate to other Black people.

  17. most americans also seem to think that the dollar will always hold its position as the world's reserve currency, despite all the signs to the contrary. in fact, i still hear folks running around proclaiming america as a world superpower. so speaking of "most americans" like it is a sound endorsement seems rather silly.

just because most folks choose to believe that which is untrue, doesn't change the fact that it is untrue.

IF mixed raced folks were allowed to identify as they choose, i submit to you very few would choose black. back when the rule was made and now. WHAT would the benefit of THAT be? at the very least, they would downplay it in a society that harbors such animosity towards blackness...see the many examples of this already.

the one drop rule was designed to maintain the status quo, plain and simple. the rule is as factual as saying that america is and has always been one nation, under God, indivisable, with liberty and justice for all. this group that was tossed tragicly (hence the term tragic mulatto, they were tragic because they could not achieve whiteness) in the "black" group, ALSO held black slaves. biracials and blacks have not ever been all one group. which is why BO's antics don't come as a shock to me. i know quite a few black americans have not awakened yet. just give it a minute. it will all become clear soon.

both BO and HB are biracial people. and as quiet as it is kept black americans, in general, are a mixed race of people.

but as you say, what's a little thing like facts?

Mr. Ho, Harvard and all, did not flip my thinking switch off. lol. though i do understand his point. it would be very simple just to say, those that have the power (whites) control the say in who gets to be white. a black parent bars entry to whiteness when it is evident all over the biracial person. ok, shrug. how is this news, again?

FN if you insisted on being your special name, i would go along. what do i care? this is america. folks can be what they want to be.

the only issue i take is when folks want to only be black to get over on black folks. but then i take issue with non reciprocal relationships in general, hence my focused purpose. lol.

i don't understand the meanness directed at SP. she is no dumber than most americans as far as i can see. i admire her focus on family. she managed to parlay her community drop out status into some pretty impressive opportunities, so one must give her credit for THAT. she is not a little docile doormat either. and WHAT does being qualified have to do with being POTUS or a politician? IF that were the case BO would NOT be POTUS! it was "hope", the promise of "change", and the belief that wm wrote the book on jacked up behavior that finds him in his current position. lol.

    happy sunday folks!

  20. Most children, including black biracials are usually nurtured and influenced by their mothers or by the maternal extended family environment. Therefore, I tend to be bias towards black bi-racials who were not born to the black womb.

So in essence, I've never given Obama, Halle, Tiger and a colossal of others who have one of those low-esteem non-black mandingo prowling mothers the benefit of being apart of the black race just because they have a drop of melanin. However, I tend to give those who have black mothers the benefit unless they themselves determine otherwise, which too is no loss to me. I make no apology, and I could care less who thinks less of my perspective. Thank you.

  23. "IF mixed raced folks were allowed to identify as they choose, i submit to you very few would choose black."

    Exactly.

(I also have a theory why so many white mothers in particular keep their blackish biracial boy children with that mane of wavy dry mess on their head oppose to a low cut. I suspect it's to socially identify their children away from the average black males.) Most bi-racials (especially with non-black mothers) are taught from birth to identify themselves as biracial, other, mix, half cat or extraterrestrial oppose to calling themselves "black".

I don't mind helping them with this process, I have pride with my blackness.

    ReplyDelete
  24. LAA-

    i understand your point.

recently though, i have met biracials born to black mothers that have great contempt for blackness. just as i have met black folks with two black parents that have that same contempt. bw have nurtured, taught, sacrificed for, and done more than their share for a whole group of people that through their sustained behavior demonstrate a contempt for blackness and particularly bw. as such, i tend to call biracials biracials and keep it moving. no benefits of the doubt here. nope. calling things what they are keeps it simple for me. it also strikes me as disrespectful to discount the rest of a person's heritage. IF i had a child with my non blk husband, i would feel as though i were discounting him, if i insisted my child was black.

it seems that the truth is the simple stuff. all the complex extra comes into play when folks start adding ish to the mix.

the stating your point and saying thank you struck me as funny for some reason. lol.

  27. Hey FP, I have met them too. And in fairness, I have met biracials who have white mothers and they were more "black" or showed more love and admiration for blackness. So I've always felt it was a slippery slope, but I can't help but feel different toward those who were born to black mothers or those who were socially constructed based on having "black" personal experiences or black environment. But I understand the type of confusion and inconsistency, which also brings me to what the Anony said below, as painful as it may sound, he/she may have a point.

"Blacks cannot count on one another because very few are trustworthy. They talk a good game, but their actions and behaviors are just the opposite...fearful and splintered as a race."

Also, that's one of the reasons I don't understand why some blacks insist on claiming every stray cat with melanin.

Tiger had a sexual free for all which had mainstream society frowning. Do you think that would have been the better time for black males to stop "claiming" him once and for all? Don't black males have enough negative sexual stereotypes of their own to deal with? But nooo... it seems only then more black males in particular embraced Tiger, including Field. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  28. And FP, I've mentioned this before, perhaps I tend to be bias or give that benefit because I also have a black/white biracial parent, who has never considered themselves anything other than just black.

Even if Obama had to teach himself "how to be black" due to the lack of exposure to "all things black", I commend him on his efforts to identify and connect with his "blackness" as well as establishing himself in the black community. I look at it this way, you have one bi-racial man trying to claim his ancestry, while you have 10x times as many black folks who grew up "black", were introduced at an early age to what it meant to "black" , knew about "black culture, black oppression, racism, etc. and instead of embracing who they are, denounce anything that makes them "too black". Their only "blackness" is the extra melanin in their skin that they can't shed. Let Obama live!

it is for this reason, i just call it what it is. biracial folks are biracial. it takes nothing from no one to acknowledge this upfront.

i have met white folks with two white parents that understand the history of black folks in this country and around the world better than quite a few black folks. does this make them black? no. it makes them well read and intelligent white folks.

ummm... if folks did away with the mandingo hypersexual bm hooey WHAT would bm hang their hats on as a point of pride? what? bm from across the globe even? i get WHY they do this. it is STILL sickening and will in due time work against them. the homosexual bm can only be scapegoated for so long. in due time folks are going to connect the dots. yep. i said it. mandingo, dirty, undisciplined penis is just around the corner. lol. truth be told, it is here already in the smart woman circles. see, not everyone thinks the bw's gaydar is broken and she keeps landing "down low" bm or that she incubates the hiv virus. some already know these nothing but bm bw are getting more than just oow babies from these interactions.

as more bw unstick themselves from stupid, the bm is going to have no choice but to bring something else to the table besides his penis. tiger brought millions. when elin pushed back her chair and moved away from tiger's table she took millions with her. lol. and rightfully so. may she purchase her own private clinic with some of that money. all infections don't show up right away and God knows he worked diligently to expose her to them ALL. IF bm want this to be what they are associated with, more power to them. hope it all works out for them.

FP, thanks for your comments. As usual you don't hold back when it comes to the truth. I appreciate you for that. It's a breath of fresh air, and very nourishing to the soul.

But I must admit sometimes the truth rocks me back on my heels, esp when I have been trying to hide from it for so many years. It can be painful, but it is also a sigh of relief because I don't have to 'pretend' anymore...I can just be 'real' and accept the person I had intended to be from the beginning-with integrity and dignity.

I have discovered that the "Way of Truth" requires phenomenal 'self-honesty', which I am STILL learning about. YOUR straight-to- the-point-truthful comments have helped me along this path. For me, the path of truth is not easy. The thing about truth, it tears down walls of denial. It can be somewhat scary but it really does simplify life....

It's the growing mountains of stinking bullshit that complicates everything...and our race has PLENTY of it.

When it comes to dealing with the truth, MOST Blacks are Master Escape Artists. Look how we focus on everyone and everything else, except ourselves. It is an invisible madness that runs through our race. It has us in its grips and there is no treatment or cure for it-- except the raw truth. Unfortunately, most don't want to take the medicine.

thank you for your kind words. your comment is why i speak. seed planting works for me.

know the truth and it shall make you free, has blessed my life tremendously. it takes courage to know and speak the truth. do i think of how my words will be received? of course. what it boils down to is what i care most about, and frankly being well received is NOT a priority. being a history buff, i can tell you, being well received has NEVER been the outcome for those that break from the norm and the party line of the time-whatever that may be.

i would rather speak to those that may not truly understand what they are seeing, that if they understood, they would choose a different path for themselves.

it is of course easier to dine on lies and play games of pretend and make believe. most will choose easy. fortunately, i had parents that taught me early that life was NOT easy nor fair. high school taught me that life was NOT a popularity contest. politics maybe, life, not so much. however, the longer i live, it seems politics isn't a popularity contest either. politics is all about the very chosen and selected few ramming their self serving agendas down the throats of the masses, thereby enslaving us all.

at any rate, digested lies kill. i lack what it takes to play along.

it deeply saddens me to see so many bfolks wandering around like zombies regurgitating the myths/lies, excuses, and the new no moral code. at least, i can truly say i am doing my part on my watch. no one can ever accuse me of sitting in silence or focusing solely on myself. what i say and share, i know already for myself. IF i wanted to be the only one, all i would need to do is be quiet and keep it moving. i want more black folks, both genders, to stand up, clock in and go to work where they are...according to their gifts...to do justice to the blood equity that finds us with SO many more blessings and opportunities than those that went before us had. waiting on the government, elected officials, celebrities, etc is silly. we must each hold ourselves and each other accountable and responsible, FIRST. somehow, we instead steadfastly REFUSE to do this while screaming for others to do that which we refuse. how counterproductive is THAT?

history will not look favorably upon black americans unless we immediately change course in greater numbers.

Yes. I am finding I am on a different path because quite frankly, I see the path of the majority of our society on the way to hell. It's a losing proposition that I cannot follow anymore, even if I wanted to.

It's good to know that I am not alone, that there are people like you in the world, although I am afraid that we are few. To be devoted to the truth is very difficult enough. To be one of the very few makes it even harder. However, I don't see any other alternative. I don't want to die as a liar who frittered his entire life pretending and lying.

Can the folks at Harvard research why some bw cannot teacher their preschoolers shapes, colors, and upper & lower case letters? Note to self: next lifetime major in researching the obvious.

White folks only claim halfsies either when they are cute and famous ("Halle Berry is as much black as she is white- why can't we claim her too?")* OR when the halfsies belong to a beloved child of their family. It also helps that most mixed kids are an improvement over the original copies (the parents). Just like tangelos & turkduckhen.

Still, it can be a struggle to explain why everyone in your family doesn't look exactly like each other w/o bringing up words like rape & slavery, but I think you can be vague about the nitty-gritty facts until 1st-2nd grade age.

Add in your brother's interracial marriage and differently mixed child from a previous relationship, and well, then you have the ingredients for a long discussion in post-racial America. Problem with raising thinkers...

    * Actual paraphrase from some middle-aged white lady when Halle Berry won the Oscar for her racially-uplifting performance in Monsters Ball.

As for Sarah, let's just pray she don't pull a Jolie and decide to "adopt" a couple of Haitian kids at the end of her stay.

"You are still a boy, child...a pathetic kingbaby of your own imagined universe."

The basic premise and conclusion of this study are flawed. The spin is out of line here.

First, the study found FEW differences between how blacks, whites and asians viewed biracial people and to what race they "assigned" them.

    That's important.

Second, who says saying someone is Black instead of white means you are assigning them to a "lower" class? As the writer you quoted here pointed out, it can be based on appearance vs. anything else.

Third, this study had NOTHING to do with Obama.

Fourth, please stop giving LA another opportunity to show her racist, colorist self. Please!

They were raised in generally white environments like Great Neck, LI or Traverse City, MI and absorbed a lot of the anti-black sentiment of those areas.

FocusedPurpose, how is it fair to say biracials are not black because you say so, they should be given the choice not you. If Obama says he's Black then he's Black, and he does looks it to, so I don't see the problem. The answer to those arguments during the election was that presidential experience mattered less than the people hired to do the actual work. Obama’s supporters pointed to Ronald Reagan as an example of this, but they forgot that Reagan spent two terms as California Governor (and a term running the Screen Actors Guild before that), learning how to hire qualified people for posts in his administration. By the time he got to the Oval Office, Reagan understood how to pick and then run a team, and how to get the best performance out of them once in harness.
The results have been as dismal as anyone could have predicted. Obama stuck with ideological allies heavy on academics and with no real-world experience, reflecting his own profile rather than complementing it as an experienced executive would have known to do. Obamanomics is the result. It’s a classic command-economy approach that works on every university campus where it’s discussed — and in no real-world setting where it’s ever been tried.
After February 2009 and the establishment of Porkulus, Obama and his team haven’t deflected from its trajectory an iota, mainly because no one on his team has the experience to know how to change course. None of them, as Robins points out, has ever had to run a business and reconsider strategies on the fly. None of them have been responsible for managing stockholder assets nor held accountable for the real-world implications of their actions. In short, this administration is a one-trick pony on economics, and now has no clue on how to formulate a Plan B.
The entire administration reflects incompetence. They need a massive change in leadership, or more accurately, we need a massive change in leadership.

Hey Field, here's another interesting study that recently came out that explains a lot about the liberal mind.

We've always known that conservatives stay true to enduring values, whereas liberals are led this way and that as they chase the pernicious intellectual fads pushed by the malignant puppeteers who run the progressive media and academic establishments. Now science confirms it:

"In a new study, [University of Nebraska-Lincoln] researchers measured both liberals' and conservatives' reaction to "gaze cues" — a person's tendency to shift attention in a direction consistent with another person's eye movements, even if it's irrelevant to their current task — and found big differences between the two groups.

Liberals responded strongly to the prompts, consistently moving their attention in the direction suggested to them by a face on a computer screen. Conservatives, on the other hand, did not.

Why? Researchers suggested that conservatives' value on personal autonomy might make them less likely to be influenced by others, and therefore less responsive to the visual prompts."

This would explain why leftist politicians are able to distract liberal sheep from reality by shouting meaningless shibboleths related to racism and class warfare, whereas conservatives remain focused on the real problem of our morbidly expanding government crushing the economy and our way of life.

  97. OK let me outline this:

Sarah Palin propagated the notion that Obama wasn't really American. To McCain's credit (and I use the sparingly) he didn't dive into the Birther nonsense (until he got desperate to keep the white bigot vote) but Sister Sarah kept that foolishness alive in and kicking.

    Alicia:
Look, you can disagree with the President's policy, you can even hate the man personally (though Lord only knows why).

But, use your head - Obama is a Black man born in Hawaii, get over it. All the Birther nonsense, is just that, nonsense.

Biologically, he is the product of an African immigrant and a white Midwesterner. The man is the son of a Kenyan, he's literally half Black and probably more of a 'pure' Negroid than myself or many other American Black folks, genetically speaking. And, he identifies himself as an African American, as does the greater society. So lay off the loony for one day.

Obama released a registration of live birth from Hawaii. That is simply a government document attesting to the fact that he is a real person. Several lawsuits have been filed to force him to release the "vault copy" of his birth certificate. Rather than simply provide the document to the courts, he has his team of lawyers fight the lawsuits on technical, legal grounds such as standing.

@ AB: I've been doing some research, and this site has the best compendium of information on the Obama Birth certificate issue. Facts are laid out objectively and no unfounded conclusions drawn

The crux is why go so such lengths not to release the birth certificate?

We know from "Dreams...," that Obama has a birth certificate. He tells us so (Pg. 26 last paragraph):

"I discovered this article, folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms, when I was in high school. It's a short piece, with a photograph of him. No mention is made of my mother or me, and I'm left to wonder whether the omission was intentional on my father's part, in anticipation of his long departure. Perhaps the reporter failed to ask personal questions, intimidated by my father's imperious manner; or perhaps it was an editorial decision, not part of the simple story that they were looking for. I wonder, too, whether the omission caused a fight between my parents."

Obama is reticent to release his long-form birth certificate for one of two reasons:

    1. There is something on the document, or missing from the document, that Obama doesn't want the American People to see.

    2. There is no document, and the above passage is just another Obama fantasy.

There's also this question -- how did he get the driver's license he had in Chicago and Massachusetts? He had to show a birth certificate to get a driver's license, didn't he?

Obama's birth cert is a red herring.
If one believes Obama's own narrative and takes it at face value, that his father was a Kenyan and British subject studying in the US when he impregnated Obama's mother, then Obama is NOT qualified to be POTUS as he does not meet the test of two US citizen parents born on US soil, and divided allegiances/loyalties, which the Founding Fathers were (justifiably) concerned about.

Obama has demonstrated his contempt for America and his divided allegiances time and time again.

The Obots use the slur "Birther" to shut down any meaningful discussion about Obama's failure to meet the burden of Natural Born vs Native born.

A Native born or naturalized citizen can be a US senator, but not President.

A new wrinkle in the dispute over his birth – and whether he is eligible to be president under the U.S. Constitution's requirement that the president be a "natural born" citizen – appeared today when Obama's official MySpace page declared his age is 52, thus placing his birth year at 1957 instead of 1961 as has been claimed.

Everywhere you look, wherever there is a crisis, Obama is not simply doing nothing. He's making things worse. America is about to plunge into unsustainable deficit spending? Obama got us started early with the stimulus package and the health care bill.

Big states are being bankrupted by public employee unions? Obama wants to increase the unions' power. Not enough power plants? Obama wants to restrict them further.

Iran is seeking nukes? Obama gave them a reprieve against a popular uprising.

Karzai doubts America's resolve in Afghanistan? Obama wavers on our strategy and declares our intention to bug out, no matter how much disarray there is in our strategy and command.

There's an old saying: When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. But the pattern of the Obama administration has me wondering if we're seeing the inverse: when you plan to fail, you fail to plan. That is, if American contraction and retreat is your goal, why would you make any plans to revive the economy or win wars?

I think what we're seeing here is something worse than just a failure of leadership by a disengaged president. We have to ask ourselves why he is disengaged. Why, when multiple alarm bells are ringing, is he spending more time on his hobbies than the rest of us? Or more to the point, when existing policies lead to failure, why does he double down and make things worse?

  130. Public school funding has already been cut in 34 states and D.C. since the start of the recession, according to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities. And 43 states have cut higher education. In California, tuition for public university has increased by 32 percent since the the 2009-10 school year, though newly elected Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown has indicated that he will not continue slashing higher education.

Most of the state cuts around the country are, of course, going to impact poor people the most. And that’s a category of people that’s larger than it’s been in a long time. The Census reported that the poverty rate rose to 14.3 percent last year, the highest in half a century. And increasing desperation is not evenly distributed. Black household incomes fell 4.4 percent in 2009—close to three times the decline for whites—and the number of black families living below the official poverty line went up by 7 percent between 2008 and 2009.

Some states are getting poorer at a higher velocity than others. These include Texas and Florida, which saw the largest annual increases in poverty between 2008 and 2009. Both are now controlled entirely by Republicans. The Texas GOP’s legislative majority is now 99 to 51. In Florida alone, where Republican Governor-elect Rick Scott will join a Republican-controlled legislature, a third more people became poor between 2008 and 2009.

The U.S. foreclosure crisis is worsening and the number of foreclosures will become even higher over the next few years amidst growing economic uncertainty. Housing Predictor extends its foreclosure forecast into 2011 nearly doubling its original prediction. It is being reported that the united states foreclosure cases will increase over the next few years while in an economy that is a bit uncertain. Housing Predictor predicts more than 3 million foreclosures till around 2010. The foreclosure market increase is a bad situation.

The foreclosure situation is already making an impact in other areas of the economy. Credit card delinquencies are up. Car payments are late in increasing numbers. Home prices in the over whelming majority of local U.S. housing markets are falling. Some markets have already seen prices come down as much as 50% from their peaks. Foreclosures are at record highs. The damaging effect is leaving neighborhoods all over the country blighted. There will be allot of homes that will be entering into the Real Estate market. shame!!!

In the course of the long health care battle – a struggle waged entirely within Democratic ranks –Obama let the air out of the Democratic balloon, and the GOP steadily rose from its valley of near-death. The Republicans wound up conceding nothing on health care, while their corporate patrons won more than they could have dared imagine back on Election Day, 2008, when it seemed that single-payer was an idea whose time had come

Progressives, of course, had no movement, having opted to become Obama’s groveling left flank, instead.

The corporate media wonder what will become of any future Obama initiatives with the House under firm Republican control and the Senate only nominally in Democratic hands. But, from a progressive standpoint, any new Obama initiatives should be feared like the plague. Even with Democrats in charge of both chambers of Congress, Obama persisted in attempting to forge a grand coalition with Republicans, which they steadfastly rebuffed. If he continues true to form in the next, much more troglodyte Congress – and there is no reason to think Obama won’t try – we will witness a repeat of the Clinton years, when a Democratic president oversaw passage of NAFTA, welfare "reform," vast expansion of the prison Gulag, and deregulation of Wall Street.

Obama had his own plans to go down in history as the president that “reined in” so-called entitlements: Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. On his own initiative, he caused the creation of a deficit cutting commission whose recommendations are due, next month. The president planned for commission members to threaten entitlements, whereupon he would position himself as the Great Compromiser and Conciliator, further weakening the safety net while pretending to salvage portions of it. But that was before Tuesday’s Republican tidal wave. In the new relationship of forces, an Obama attempt at triangulation on entitlements would invite utter catastrophe. We can only hope that the Republicans are so consumed with destroy-Obama fervor that they reject his entreaties to bipartisan collaboration. The people’s interests would best be served with the GOP charging ahead with their own Neanderthal agenda, forcing Obama to respond with vetoes, if necessary. The people have no champion in the White House or the Congress. The best we can hope for is that the two evils cancel each other out. Let there be gridlock.

and they have cursed us all!!!

The Democrats are panicked, with many congresspersons fleeing from identification with their party. The disarray is the inevitable blowback of Obama's ceaseless campaign to divorce Democrats from their longtime branding as the party of working people. The spiral began with Obama's championing of bank bailouts, beginning with the autumn 2008 meltdown. The public saw that, "when the crunch came, the bankers were relatively more influential among Democrats than Republicans."

Far too late, after all the people's money has been siphoned off to the bankers, Obama now proposes a $50 billion scheme to create jobs and establish a government bank to finance rail and highway projects. The proposal is designed to sound like something out of President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, although the actual outlines are a blur, as is typical with Obama. But it is too late. Through his own commission on the federal debt, Obama has invited the enemies of the social safety net to shrink government spending for people-oriented programs. He has consumed so much energy beating up on progressives in his own party, they no longer trust him to come through with a jobs program that measures up to the crisis. Most importantly, the people have lost faith in the Democrats as the party that stands up to the rich, for the simple reason that they don't. For Black Agenda Radio, I'm Glen Ford. The political leadership of the world is very, very dismayed. He better turn it around. The Democrats are going to get killed in this election. Jesus, looks what’s happening in Massachusetts.

Five states got deals on health care—one of them was Harry Reid’s. It is disgusting, just disgusting. I’ve never seen anything like it. The unions just got them to drop the tax on Cadillac plans in the health-care bill. It was pure union politics. They just went along with it. It’s a bizarre form of political corruption. It’s bribery. I suppose they could say, that’s the system. He was supposed to change it or try to change it.

I can’t predict things two years from now, but if he continues on the downward spiral he is on, he won’t be reelected. In the meantime, the Democrats have recreated the Republican Party. And when I say Democrats, I mean the Obama administration. In the generic vote, the Democrats were ahead something like 52 to 30. They are now behind the Republicans 48 to 44 in the last poll. Nobody has ever seen anything that dramatic.

Field glad you noted Sarah Palins visit. I get the sense that she was a touched a bit by what she saw. And to be fair I don't think she sees the Haitians as being joyous as much as being surprised that they haven't totally given up trying to live and making the best of a seemingly hopeless situation.

Time will tell on how much this serves as a wake up call.

BTW the elections that were supposedly open and democratic were far from it. They were rigged an did not include all of the political parties and perspectives.

The US and its capitalist buddies have no intention on letting Haiti escape its influence and clutches. It(HAITI) may not have much to offer but the parasitic imperialists will make sure that they get even that.

So real self governing, which would go a long way toward organizing the country for the comnmon good is almost impossible, as long as this government and the French esp continue to have its hands in the country's affairs.

And the "we are responsible for helping the less fortunate" line is probably the most misleading ever spoken.

Because in truth the US government is responsible as much as any entity for helping create the conditions that have of course been exacerbated by the earthquake.

It would be more accurate to say the US gov't (not we since we aint the government) has been responsible for making them less fortunate.

Responding to a Freedom of Information Act request, the State Department has released passport records of Stanley Ann Dunham, President Obama's mother – but records for the years surrounding Obama's 1961 birth are missing.

The State Department claims a 1980s General Services Administration directive resulted in the destruction of many passport applications and other "nonvital" passport records, including Dunham's 1965 passport application and any other passports she may have applied for or held prior to 1965.

Destroyed, then, would also be any records shedding light on whether Dunham did or did not travel out of the country around the time of Barack Obama's birth.

The claim made in the Freedom of Information response letter that many passport records were destroyed during the 1980s comes despite a statement on the State Department website that Passport Services maintains U.S. passport records for passports issued from 1925 to the present.

The records released, however, contain interesting tidbits of new information about Obama's mother, including the odd listing of two different dates and locations for her marriage to Obama's Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.

No, he presented a 2007 issued "Certification of Live Birth". A Certification of Live Birth is not a Birth Certificate. Obama's sister Maya was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, but Ann Dunham registered her as "born in Honolulu" shortly after her birth. Maya has a State of Hawaii Certification of Live Birth, just like Obama -- therefore Barak's proves nothing.

Some Democratic apologists say the deal is a $900 billion stimulus. Not true. The rich spend a smaller share of their incomes than everyone else, so the huge benefits going their way will barely stimulate the economy. (Their savings will move around the world wherever they can get the highest return.)

And while middle- and working-class consumers will get a small break from payroll taxes, they’ll use most of it to help pay down their debts because they know the tax break isn’t permanent while their debt payments and penalties are growing. Again, very little stimulus.

An extension of unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless will surely help them and the economy overall. But a new WPA to put the jobless to work would have been far better. The longer they're out of work the harder it will be for them ever to get back in, even if and when jobs return. But apparently a new WPA wasn't even considered.

I have my paper copy that was given to my parents when I was born. Stamped and signed.

Obama's parents should have been given one as well. If it was lost, the state maintains its own records, and could reproduce it if it did indeed exist.

Hawaii never confirmed that he was born in Hawaii, never confirmed that he has a Hawaiian long-form birth certificate or any other US birth certificate on file, or even if they have anything tangible beyond a computer record.

A Certification of Live Birth is not a Birth Certificate.

If Obama has an original "long form" birth certificate issued on the day of his birth by the state of Hawaii, why would he also have a "Certification of Live Birth"?

The state of Hawaii maintains paper records, as well as micro-fiche copies. Obama could get a copy whenver he wants.

This issue is never, ever going to go away until he releases that $12.50 long-form birth certificate.

Epstein because it is not my desire to alienate you or anyone else all I can tell you is to try to find out all you can about the history of Haiti before you call me paranoid.

I think you will find out some astounding things. One thing that will clearly stick out is the class conflicts among the Haitians with the Haitian ruling class doing all it can to maintain its status and power.

And the other thing that will stand out is how France and the US governments have enforced policies starting with France forcing Haiti to pay it reparations for overthrowing them -- that have made it difficult if not impossible for Haiti to empower itself. Read about the US interventions, trade policies, etc.

YOu will see that in fact the Haitians have some serious problems that were not all of their own creations.

Now the honus is on you to really look for the truth or to just call folks paranoid because you don't want to beleive objective facts.

Because it doesn't matter what you believe it matters what is indeed true and historically accurate.

It serves the interests of those in power for you to continue to think that Haiti has not or does not have natural resources but only an outstretched hand.

Because if you believe that then it is you and not me that has swallowed whole, propaganda.

You go to Hawaii and ask for the long form. No birth certificate is issued the same day of ones birth.
Do you know its 12.50 or is that what it is in your state, it cost more in here and there is only one form you can get. The one I have from the hospital with the seal and everything is worthless.

  175. "No, he presented a 2007 issued "Certification of Live Birth". A Certification of Live Birth is not a Birth Certificate. Obama's sister Maya was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, but Ann Dunham registered her as "born in Honolulu" shortly after her birth. Maya has a State of Hawaii Certification of Live Birth, just like Obama -- therefore Barak's proves nothing."

curious, it's Rod Sterling on line one....

    Field, Shady:

I have not asserted that Obama was not born in Hawaii, only that he has not released his birth certificate. That is a matter of fact.

The term "Birther" is a brilliant example of Newspeak. Associating people who want to see Obama's birth certiciate with "Truthers" immediately delegitimizes the whole topic.

But really, is asking the President to produce a common piece of documentation equivalent to thinking the governmnnt staged 9/11?

We all saw the towers fall live on TV. Four airliners crashed that day. 3,000 people died. There were congressional investigations, private documentaries, and professional reports. 19 muslim hijackers were identified, and voluminous corraborating evidence regarding financial transactions, pilot lessons, etc. was presented.

To be a truther, you have to believe that an incredible series of plots involving hundreds of people was flawlessly pulled off, and that somehow has more credence than what we all saw with our own eyes.

To be a "birther", all you have to believe is that for some reason the president is hiding his birth certificate.

I happen to think that it is clear that he is. Why? I do not know.

How do you explain the birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser in 1961?"

Well, it means Obama's grandparents put an anouncement in the paper that their grandson was born on August 4. that's all it says. It could very well mean that Barak was born in Honolulu, but not necessarily. When my kids were born in Connecticut, my mother put a birth announcement in the paper back home in Ohio.

    Hyper? Hypo?

While the debate will surely continue (and don't call me Shirley), Ms. Berry transcends. She is above mortal debate.

As my 91 year old dad is so fond of asking his less enlightened buddies, "With whom would you want to spend the night, Kate Smith or Lena Horne?"

Her daughter, Bristol, is pregnant again, isn't she? Gaining weight versus losing weight like all other contestants after dancing 10 weeks and visiting Haiti wearing a huge scarf trying to hide her belly does make one think that she is again with child. The damn girl is big in the middle and I just can't understand why no one has just come out and said it.

  183. Still catching up. Sarah Palin is irrelevant. Period.

As far as mixed race and one drop, I whole-heartedly believe that in another 30-40 years this entire country is going to be a little beige. And I think that's a good thing. I think that's where racism ends. Some of the prettiest people in this country have a little this and that in them. I think that's the future. It's a good thing.
