"A friend in need..."

"So much trouble in the world now Bless my eyes this morning
JAH sun is on the rise once again The way earthly things are going
Anything can happen"

Bob, (Marley) you speak truth.

Hosni Mubarak has ruled Egypt with an iron fist for over thirty years. Like others before him, with a similar ruling style, he has been an A-merry-can ally (1.5 billion is a lot of money) in a very volatile region of the world. So now what? His chickens, as the saying goes, are finally coming home to roost.

Egypt has a very young -and very unemployed- population, and they have taken to the streets. From the looks of it, they could be there awhile. Mr. Bush, if you had only waited this is what would have happened in Iraq. But noooo. Sorry folks, I couldn't resist.

Anyway, Hillary and Obama are scrambling like #7 on a Sunday afternoon at the Linc. They are trying to get on the right side of history. But, as Run- DMC so famously said: "It's Tricky".

If they come down too hard on Mubarak and speed up the revolution the end result could be the Muslim Brotherhood taking over. Not a good look if you are an A-merry-can. Don't come down on him and A-merry-ca will look like she is siding with an evil dictator who doesn't want to relieve himself of power pursuant to the will of the people. Again, not a good look.

What 's a president with a Muslim name to do?

O man here is a suggestion for you: Call your boy Hosni and beg him to step aside. Tell him that you will personally have him and his family escorted to a beautiful villa in Malibu where the A-merry-can government has laid it out with all the trimmings for him. Then, pray that the people of Egypt have democratic elections and a moderate government takes power. With any luck the joint will look like Turkey in twenty years.

Now this is all assuming that he will take your call. The pundits are already saying that you got the people fired up in Egypt with your little speech back in Cairo over a year ago. So let's just hope that Hosni isn't watching CNN.

As events in Egypt and elsewhere in the Arab world spiral out of control, the Obama administration has tried to portray itself as ahead of the curve, as in David Axelrod's interview with Jake Tapper of ABC News. Axelrod tries to convey the impression that the administration has been on the case for a long time. Obama, like Axelrod, harkened back to his Cairo speech in a strained attempt to show some prescience, but if you read the speech it is striking how irrelevant it was to what is now happening in Egypt.

The administration evidently thinks that it must claim to be on top of, if not in control of, events in Egypt. The truth is that what is now happening in the Arab world is not about us. We are spectators. Just as the administration's claim to have been on the case for a long time is bogus, so, in my view, are criticisms of Obama's performance to date. To be fair, we don't know what role the administration has played behind the scenes--if any. If it has in fact supported Mubarak and helped to convince the Egyptian Army to stick with Mubarak but transition to a more open government, that's a good thing.

And you might think about finding some religion cause Revelations says the end of the world is just around the corner. We just might be privileged to see it happen. Won't that be some shit?

  3. If Egypt falls to an Islamic, Theocratic government, we have some serious problems. Islamic religion promotes conversion by force. There is no argument about this. We have equipped Egypt with some of our most sophisticated weaponry in the Middle East, primarily to keep the Russians & Chinese out.

If an Islamic regime comes into power, we will have military conflict with Israel, with Lebanon now controlled by Hezbollah (Iran), and Syria.

Israel will NOT be defeated. They have too many land-based nukes, not to mention the six or seven ballistic nuclear submarines. If Israel goes, all the Arab capitols & important sites will be nuked.

That is NOT a good scenario for the restof the world.

This is a preview of what will happen right here if the bipartisan consensus of shipping all our jobs overseas continues. Obama, like Clinton is pushing for another NAFTA deal, this time with South Korea that will wipe out even more jobs. And the Republicans, while denouncing it, will of course vote for it anyway.

It's not "apocalyptic stuff", it is an "apocalyptic fact". What I said at 10:46pm was not stuff. Your stubborness is going to leave you stuck in worthless bonds and a car you can't get rid of.

Obviously, you don't read Revelations...oh wait...you don't read such "stuff". You don't believe in a Spiritual Divine Power do you? You ACTUALLY think this whole thing called Life is an accident, don't you? Yet, everything that is happening has been predicted by the Bible.

The trouble with you skeptics is you must have worldly 'proof' before you act. The problem with your self-centered type of thinking about 'spiritual stuff' is- by the time you get your worldly proof, it's WAAAAY too late to do anything about it.

My dear Mr. Field, you need to have some faith and humility. You are not the alpha and omega of your life...it's waaaay too big for a flawed human being.

This is from the previous thread. This moderation really breaks up the continuity of comments in other threads:

APOI, "If you were really a "teacher", you would find you do not indoctrinate with your deluded opinions on which should be neutral. Your politics has no place in education. That is for the parent's purview, same as religion."

Are you saying teachers can't voice their opinions on a blog? How can you equate what AB teaches with what she says on FN blog? There is a difference between what one does "professionally" and what one does "privately"...wouldn't you agree?

Maybe after dealing with unruly kids from the Southside of Chicago, she needs to vent on FN blog! I mean, you do, don't you?

Where are you getting your information from? Look, do yourself a favor, read the bible. At least your reference point will be from a book, instead of your ass.

A lot of factors are contributing to the upheaval and rioting in Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Morocco. Much of it boils down to the simple fact that Islamic theocratic dictatorships are horrible places to live.

However, there's no reason to think a revolution in Egypt promises the idiot muslims a better life. After all, we know what happened in Iran after the Shah was overthrown -- the country went into a downward economic spin brought on by the post-revolutinary fundamentalist Islamic theocracy now running the show.

Without quite saying it, a lot of Iranians see the Shah as the lesser of two evils.

What's ahead for Egypt? Well, one possibility is a budding form of democracy. Not a full-blown democracy, but something that might pass the test.

Or, the Muslim Brotherhood will grab power and do to Egypt what the Khomeinists did to Iran.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the group responsible for assassinating Anwar Sadat in 1981. Why did they kill him? Because Sadat, with handholding from Jimmy Carter, signed a peace treaty with Israel.

Unless the US takes an active role in driving Egypt toward democracy and capitalism, the Muslim Brotherhood and its like-minded supporters have their best shot ever for grabbing all the power.

Till now, the US has maintained its relationship with Mubarak on the basis of Mubarak being the lesser evil. There are no true friends of America in Egypt. But Mubarak was at least willing to do his part to minimize hostilities in the region.

There is also the issue of the Gaza Strip. Clearly the dirbags of Hamas and other radical fundamentalist Islamists will do what they can to help the Muslim Brotherhood -- their pals -- gain control of Egypt.

However, as always, at times like these we can be thankful that muslims are hopelessly bad at coordinated military actions of any kind.

The Egyptian mobs are essentially leaderless, so there is no figurehead for Mubarak to arrest and kill. It's a whack-a-mole situation where fighting, riots and demonstrations are occurring spontaneously, which makes crowd control almost impossible without a lot of gunfire from the government.

Anyway, Obama is doing his standard wussie act. He sent Hillary, a woman, to tell the Islamic men to knock it off. As we know, Islamic men live, breathe and practice a lifestyle that says women are slaves and have no power.

Anyway, it is obvious to everyone except you that Bush's invasion of Iraq and the subsequent establishment of a muslim-oriented democracy is one of the catalysts of the current middle east upheavals. If Egypt falls and emerges as some form of Democracy, Bush becomes a hero.

It's not his muslim name that's a problem. It's his sympathy and his personal identification with the muslim way that is the problem.

With respect to Iran and its stated threats to use the atomic bomb it is building, he has shown the world he is President Wimp.

As far as Iran's nuclear weapons go, Ahmadedinejad has openly defied Obama. Wimp that Obama is, he has taken his international humiliation without wincing.

    You wrote:

Yeah, muslim leaders with armies at their command are known for stepping aside.

Even Saddam Hussein, who was offered a free ride out of Baghdad as late as 24 hours AFTER our invasion began, even that moron chose to send his hapless military into combat with American forces that wiped out thousands and thousands of Iraqi fighters before Saddam was found hiding in a hole in the ground.

If Obama meant business, he would send the US Navy's entire Mediterranean fleet toward Cairo and give Mubarak the Godfather offer: Board a US ship or else.

But there's no chance Obama will give that ultimatum.

Obama's wimpiness in response to the overthrow of the Tunisian government is sufficient evidence.

Turkey? Wow. What do you know about Turkey? Apparently nothing. HOwever, its slender connection to democracy is the thing that seems to make the place okay with you.

It's yet another Islamic stronghold seething with fundamentalist sentiments that may topple the weak government at any moment. The country is poor and showing no signs that prosperity is on the way. Inasmuch as Turkey has been in this quasi-demcratic condition for decades, it's unfortunate you see it as the model Egypt should emulate.

Apparently it's too much for you to consider the possibility of Egypt following the path set by Iraq.

It's probably news to you, but the economy of Iraq is accelerating impressively, largely because the existence of the new democratic government means international investment in the oil industry is arriving.

Oil production under Saddam was falling for decades because, like all muslim leaders, he was a technical incompetent who spent heavily on his own security while putting nothing into the oil industry.

Those drilling rigs, production platforms and related equipment need a lot of maintenance and repair. Without it, they stop working.

Oil Industry professionals project it's possible over the next several years for Iraq's daily production can reach 12 million barrels.

At the end of Saddam's reign, it was about 1 million barrels.

The democratic, capitalistic nation of Iraq can build a modern society based on the financial power of selling 10 million-12 million barrels of oil a day. Actually, the country can make huge strides on daily sales of 5million-6 million barrels.

Egypt has some oil. It also has the Nile.

Despite the Nile River, Egypt depends on the US and others for wheat.

It is amazing that a nation with its own Mississippi River cannot grow enough food to feed itself. But that's the muslim way. If there's an unproductive, incompetent way of doing things, the muslims have mastered it.

However, demcoracy and capitalism will change that -- if the opportunity arrives.

  17. mold,

Oil production in Iran, as everywhere else in the middle east, was/is managed by western oil experts.

Why? Because muslims are completely incapable of handling the job, and they're the first to acknowledge the fact.

Everything in the Islamic world is designed and built by western companies. Much of the architecture is handled by Skidmore, Owings, Merrill, and the engineering work is often done by some Korean companies.

Then the laborers are imported from other countries.

When it comes to the oil industry, the muslims play the same game of pretending.

Anyway, since the Iranian revolution, oil production in Iran had declined. That's one reason the majority of the population -- the majority of Iranians were born AFTER the revolution -- are unhappy with their idiotic theocratic leaders.

Though you seem determined to ignore the facts, Islamic nations manufacture almost nothing, invent nothing, and export almost nothing except oil and figs. The poorest Islamic nations, like Pakistan and Bangladesh, are known for stitching clothes that are sold here and elsewhere.

The retardation of their economies is entirely a fucntion of the people's devotion to Islam.

This religion/political doctrine/military/mental illness is spreading in Africa, and will soon probably consume Nigeria, which will lead to another collapse of the Nigerian oil industry and even more misery for the 140 million Nigerians.

Ask you girlfriend if the some of the same arguments about the failures, frauds and breach of contract that formed her lawsuit against the for-profit school delineate the situation found at many public schools?

After all, every city now closes the worst of its public schools because they do not, and have not for a long time, performed as mandated.

Is not that the basis for a lawsuit?

By the way, even though it's tough to sue the Dept of Ed in a city, it can be done, and it is done successfully on behalf of kids in Special Ed.

Special Ed students routinely win these suits, which, in NY City, means the Dept of Ed is obligated to pay the tuition at a private school that is recognized for its excellent results in Special Ed.

Most interesting is the fact that the private Special Ed schools can deliver far, far superior results for less than the Dept of Ed budgets -- per-student -- for its Special Ed programs.

    Comrade Field,
I haven't seen anyone get moving on this urgent matter in Egypt yet and wanted to get your opinion. I am having a tough time deciding if we should spin this one on Rush Limbaugh or try and blame another one on Sarah Palin. I think with the last spin we attempted to pin on Sarah being so recent and it not going over so well (losing Olberman) with the truth, we might not have any credibility blaming her on this one, so maybe we should go with the Republican Congress?

Some have said we can blame Bush again but I am not really sure on that. I think Blaming Bush has been played out and no-one buys it anymore, but then again we still blame everything in our life on every event in history possible, so who knows.

Anyway what do you think? Should we Blame, Sarah, Rush, Bush or Congress? Of course, blaming republicans being a given.

  22. pilotX,

You are correct, an average ACT score of 23 is not too good.

And this is the average score for the cream of the black crop of students.

As far as your claim that 43% of graduates from one of your pet schools attend "elite" colleges, well, let's look at that statement.

"Elite" is another word for Private College or university.

Private schools can accept anyone for any reason. Thus, Harvard, if it chose to, could accept students who dropped out of school after 5th grade.

Thus, by claiming that students with such low standardized test scores are accepted by "elite" schools, you are admitting that black students are admitted according to a lower standard than white and asian students.

    State universities cannot do this.

Meanwhile, all the schools you mentioned are tiny. Practically the one-room schoolhouse.

What's the point of mentioning this? Simple. No one is claiming blacks cannot do better in school. But the plain, incontestable fact is, the majority of black students do poorly in school.

Only this very small sliver of black students that you've identified have done reasonably well. But as well as you believe this top-tier black group has done, their group results are well behind the results of top-tier whites and asians.

You really need to understand why sof few black students do well in school.

And by the way, there's school money out there for every black kid in this top tier.

Much of the Egyptian media is state-run. The state bases its law on the Koran -- sharia law for Egyptians.

Hence, every move made by Mubarak is an attempt for him to retain his power as an Islamic tyrant.

This is about them. This is about their country. Their future.

Ah. such golden sentiments. Shouted as though the US and the free world have no stake in the leadership that might replace Mubarak.

Inasmuch as Egypt has a nuclear bomb and the Muslim Brotherhood is going to try its best to drive Mubarak out and seize power, there's plenty of issues for everyone on the planet to worry about.

There is nothing for US to do but observe and figure out how to interact with what will be the future Egypt. Mubarak is done. Their future is now.

Because Joe Biden says Mubarak is not a dictator, there's a chance the US will help Mubarak stay in power.

Obviously Obama, the ex-muslim, will favor an Egypt with Mubarak in charge. Obama's got an obvioussoft-spot for muslim dictators, as his obsequeious behavior toward the Saudis and Ahmadinejad shows.

Now's a good time for the US to grab Mubarak and take him out of Egypt while arming those Egyptians who want democracy and capitalism.

By the way, the current upheavals are proof that killing Islamic tyrants, like Saddam Hussein, inspires long oppressed populations to revolt.

This is a huge score for Bush.

Egypt is a country ruled by sharia law, which means virtually every principle enshrined in the US Constitution is a capital crime in Egypt and other Islamic nations abused by the same Koranic idiocy.

As history has shown, the Islamic nations of the world have all slid into economic ruin once the they were able to drop all pretenses of secularism. Even massive quantities of oil money does nothing for the demented culture that arises in every Islamic nation.

Anyone can read about it, ironically in all the Big Business press which has an interest in it because the capitalists want to make sure that when the dust clears a favorable system and leader develops.

The only true statement is the State run media which you have in more so-called freer countries as well because Big Business tends to censor itself. A moment later the phone was picked up in Egypt. Hillary spoke first. "Hillary Clinton calling for Hosni Mubarak."

"Hosni's not here," said the heavily accented voice.

    "Where'd he go?" asked Hillary.

Never mind. You want to leave message? I give him message," he said.

"You know, this is going nowhere. Tell your husband to call me. I want him to get Charlie Sheen to invite me over to his place. You make it happen and I get you in touch with Hosni. Otherwise, get back in your burka," he said.

Here's some startling news for you. No one is leading the anarchy in Egypt. But the fact that no individuals or groups are leading it now means nothing with respect to how things go in the next couple of phases.

Ultimately in revolutions like this, the power goes to the most organized and most violent group.

Thus, if those Egyptian idealists succeed in removing the Mubarak government and a new political structure replaces the current regime, the idealists will have to fight the Muslim Brotherhood, who will get support from al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah.

Do you think the idealists of Egypt are as ruthless and violent as the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies?

    Hint. NO.

Therefore, unless the "good guys" are given arms and backing from international sources, Egypt is likely to become a slaughterhouse.

  54. 4 Reasons Why Egypt’s Revolution Is Not Islamic Post by HAROON MOGHUL

Just as in the case of Tunisia, we’ve been caught off guard by the rapid pace of events in Egypt. Commentators are having a difficult time understanding the dynamics of the Arab world and especially the role of religion in this latest apparent revolution. Many wonder why this isn’t an Islamic Revolution, and are audibly breathing a sigh of relief that it isn’t—assuming that somehow Egypt would follow Iran’s rather unique trajectory in 1979 and thereafter.

So why isn’t Egypt’s revolution an Islamic one? And what sets Tunisia and Egypt apart from Iran? Due to the quickly shifting nature of events, I’ve recorded four reasons why Egypt’s uprising isn’t an explicitly Islamic one.

    1) The political Islamism that ended up triumphing in Iran was a much more authoritarian interpretation of Islam. It specifically embraced political power and preached a narrative of resistance, though its victory in Iran paradoxically ended any chance of victory elsewhere. That’s because when elites and other, non-religious ideological forces in neighboring Muslim countries saw the purges of prior elites taking place in Iran, they immediately became skeptical of working alongside Islamists in their own country.

Islamic challenges to regimes in Tajikistan, Algeria and Tunisia, among others, were violently supressed even though they pursued their goals democratically. Most Islamists learned from this brutal experience and grew from it; Egypt’s most powerful Muslim group, the Muslim Brotherhood, was one such group. It’s probably safe to say that Iran was the only victory for this style of Islamism, and now, some 30-plus years later, its moment has largely passed. The geopolitical, economic and social reasons for its emergence have disappeared.

    2) Iran’s Islamist opposition to the Shah was shaped by the peculiarities of Shi’a Islam and Iranian history. Shi’as have a more organized and powerful clergy than Sunnis, and Iran’s clergy, unlike Egypt’s, were much more independent of the state. In Egypt today, among the main trends in Islamic practice are a quietist Salafism, which seeks a rigorous but non-political personal morality, and the Muslim Brotherhood.

And while the Brotherhood is an incredibly large and powerful organization, it is today a product of years of suppression, torture, and intimidation. While it seeks to change society, it does not pursue an explicitly political agenda. Rather, it believes that an ideal politics will be achieved once society is Islamized—in other words, enough introduction of Muslim values into popular culture, and society will simply reform itself—and that includes the state. So while they have political ideals, they certainly don’t have an explicit political program.

That said, it’s no surprise that the Brotherhood weren’t out ahead in the recent protests: They’ve largely eschewed street politics (it ends with their members electrocuted in jails). It’s also worth considering, although this is still conjectural, whether the Brotherhood declined to play a more public role even after they caught up to events on the street precisely because they know a more prominent role for themselves could draw negative attention. I’m sure the Brotherhood knows that Mubarak would love to have Islamists to blame for the uprising. It would make our government support for his crackdown that much easier to obtain.

    3) People who study Iran know how vexed the relationship is, and has been, between Persian cultural identity and Islam. While many Iranians before the revolution were religious in a non-political way, the country’s elite tended to see Islam and Persianness as mutually incompatible. On the other hand, Egypt is a proudly Arab society (hint: the Arab Republic of Egypt) which has never seen Islam as incompatible with their specific ethnic and national project.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Arabness and Islam are hard to pull apart, such that the late Michel Aflaq, the founder of the Arab nationalist Ba’ath Party—he was a Christian—praised Islam as an achievement of the Arab cultural genius. (Many Muslims wouldn’t take too kindly to such a reading, but there you have it.) That difference in dynamics between Egypt and Iran needs to be stressed.

While Iran’s Shah campaigned against Islam and sought to erase its role in Persian history and culture, Mubarak never attacked Islam with anywhere near the same vehemence. He’s far more concerned with preserving power for himself than he is with rewriting Egyptian history (unfortunately for his prospects of remaining in power, he’s concerned with himself—and not even for Egypt’s advancement, unlike other Third World dictatorships, which do emphasize and achieve real economic growth). And this brings us to the most important point…

    4) Egypt’s revolution doesn’t have to be Islamic because Islam isn’t at the heart of the problem on the ground. In fact, the non-political Egyptian Islam of the last few decades has succeeded in deeply Islamizing Egyptian culture, making Muslim piety interwoven with the everyday rhythms of Egyptian life. We saw this in the protests after the Friday prayers today, in the spontaneous congregational prayers that took place in the heat of demonstrations—and we can see it in the number of Egyptian women who veil (though many don’t and still strongly identify with Islam, whether culturally or religiously, personally or publicly).

Egypt’s society is a deeply Muslim one, and the very success of this non-political religious project has negated the need for a confrontational Islam. Egyptians know their religious identity is not under threat. ElBaradei, for example, joined in Friday prayers today before going out into the streets. Whether Egyptians identify with political Islam or secular democracy, their Arabness and Islam tend to be mutually supportive, and certainly not incompatible.

Where there is a danger, as I wrote yesterday, is that if the United States does not come out explicitly in favor of the people, subsequent events will become more confrontational, and may even see the introduction of a more cultural and civilizational rhetoric. The Shah monopolized power and sought to erase a culture. Mubarak, for all his brutality, has had no such grandiose presumption.

As an aside, I might also add that Muslim societies often have flourishing religious institutions and practices, organic and varied. But in the case of Iran, the regime paradoxically undermined that popular and organic religiosity when they sought to enforce faith through the state. This is an argument for keeping religion and politics separate in the Muslim world: in the interest of defending both from the negative effects of the other. Egypt’s “secular” dictator, who didn’t meddle too far into his people’s religious life—he was no Shah, and no Ben Ali—hasn’t created a sharp cultural divide in his country (the economic one is something else altogether). So why would Egyptians need, want, or stress, an Islamic Revolution

Christians have expected the return of Jesus Christ since after his crucifixion. Thinking that certain issues spell the end is nothing new.

What's going on in Egypt is simply human beings created by God are saying that they too want to share in all the riches of their country and they want to be able to move and speak freely and to elect folks who will really represent their interests.

There are lots of different interpretations of Revelation, but the bottom line is that they are interpretations. In fact my interpretation is that it doesn't predict any exact future, but warns us about the power of the Romes of the world and tells us that there will always be empires seeking to usurp the sovereignty of God.

And you are wrong, the Bible does not predict everything that happens in the world, but it does predict bad behavior, systemic evil, and religious hypocrisy.

It foretells that there will be those who arrogantly proclaim that they know God's word, but in the end God will reveal that God didn't know them (see Matthew 25)

And if you are seeking to convert someone to Christianity you wouldn't do it by attacking them. It is you rather than Field, that needs to show humility --if indeed you really want to be a good representative of your God.

But I suspect that you are just another Bible misinterpreter, who practices "iso-gesis" rather than exegesis, who has developed a narrow interpretation of the Bible and seeks to foist it upon the world and when someone disagrees with you, your recourse is to act not in love, but rather attempt to excoriate and discredit those who have a revelation different from yours.

The gist of the Biblical revelation is just this: to love your neighbor as yourself and to love God.

When asked what God wanted of them the prophet Micah responded,"He has shown you what the Lord requires and that is to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

BTW from reports from Tunisia and Egypt both of these uprsings have been lead by primarily unionized workers and students.

The Egyptian revolt much like the Tunisian revolt have been sparked by police brutality and political repression. The police in Egypt have been guilty over the last few years of egregious violations of Egyptian citizens.

That and the mistreatment of workers and the growing level of unemployment in the face of obvious corruption has been brewing under the surface.

Yes it was the unions that have played a central role in organizing these revolutions.

The Islamic conservatives have not been involved nor lead these protests.

The Muslim Brotherhood has hurt its credibility in this struggle.

So try as they might the anti-Islamic folks among us can't make the facts fit their hateful and misleading ideology that only serves to keep us all seperated and easier marks for the ruling rich.

Maria ditto very good reference explaining the differences in Iran and Egypt and the different outlooks of Islamic groups.

The author is absolutely right if the Muslim Brotherhood were in front of this fight in Egypt Mubarak could scream terrorists and terrorism and the US would have a pretext to support and even interfere or even invade.

Anyone notice how the so-called leaders of the free world couldn't even admit that Egypt was problematic. 59. mellaneous,

Based on your naive view of the world and how human crowds behave, it's obvious you do not understand the dynamics of the uprising in Egypt.

As this point, everyone except a few people who support the Mubarak regime have the same goal. They ALL want to drive Mubarak out of Egypt.

    That's Step One.

If Mubarak goes, which is still uncertain, the power struggle will begin.

Even if the "good guys" are the first to take control of the country, that does not mean the situation is settled.

As I said, the most violent, ruthless and well organized group will eventually gain control of Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood is organized, well armed, extremely violent and has many allies across the middle east. Without help from outside the country, the "good guys" are unlikely to hold onto power, if they ever get it.

Why you believe people of good will can defeat a hyper-violent, well established, well armed gang of power seekers is beyond me? History shows that civil wars, such as this would become, are won by the side able to beat the enemy without mercy.

And yes, it's all driven by Islam.

Moreover, because this is a case of muslims fighting muslims, the possibility of the bad guys coming out on top is very high.

With muslims, things generally go from bad to worse. Like Iran.

They jabber about "freedom" and then accept and submit to a new dictator. Obviously this outcome has occurred far more often than a switch to democracy -- unless the US is on the scene to shoot holes in the bad guys.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a political party in Egypt. The party has been declared illegal, but that simply means they operate under a different name.

It's not as though these Muslim Brotherhood clowns wear uniforms that declare their allegiance.

You shall see. If Mubarak is driven out, at some point, the Muslim Brotherhood will begin to assert itself. If that happens, it's unlikely the US is going to commit troops to fight in a nation of 80 million.

The Egyptian military, while not a scary bunch, have the guns, and if they side with the Muslim Brotherhood rather than US forces, a lot of our troops would get killed.

At this point, absolutely nothing suggests the future of Egypt is in the hands of the "good guys".

NO. Because you are projecting your own stupidity and you are 'ignorant' of it. You poor helpless child.

Tell me, do you REALLY believe there IS a God, let alone believe in HIM?

  71. for mel and anyone else interested in an informed discussion and understanding:
And for all their calls for democracy, when it actually began happening in the Middle East, the Bush administration had to tack in the other direction. Palestinian elections in 2006, which the United States pushed for, led to victory for the militant Islamist organization Hamas, which the United States promptly blacklisted. Enter Mr. Obama, who came to office in 2009 vowing that he would make a major address from a Muslim capital early on, a promise he followed up with the Cairo speech. Determined not to repeat what it viewed as the mistakes of the Bush administration, the Obama administration limited criticism of Egypt to private conversations, and pointedly declined to publicly congratulate the government when it freed the jailed Mr. Nour, so as not to embarrass it.

Now, with the ascendance of democracy advocates on the streets of Cairo, Alexandria and beyond, the United States has been tacking furiously again — this time to ally itself closer to the side of the protesters — while at the same time not getting too far away from its friend, Mr. Mubarak. The White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, encapsulated the administration’s dilemma Friday in words that made it clear that administration officials still hadn’t decided what to do. “We will be reviewing our assistance posture based on events that take place in the coming days,” he told reporters.

A few hours later, his boss came out with the administration’s strongest posture to date on behalf of the protesters, trying to get ahead of any potential violent crackdown by the Mubarak government by calling on Egyptian authorities to “refrain from calling for any violence against peaceful protesters.” But he stopped short of calling for free and fair elections, limiting his remarks to a request for Mr. Mubarak to address the grievances of the Egyptian people.

Wow, some posters really do know. I am impressed. Not so much with the folks who soil themselves for attention...but the ones who expressed a deep knowledge of Egypt, history, politics and events.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Reallllyyyy? Oh I don't know. It seems to me that the white race is the one on it's way out.

It seems they just no longer possess the adaptability, survival skills, and just plain strong genetics to survive. At least not like the minorities anyway. But, I could be wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anon or whoever you are, I simply responded to your quote. Are you saying that you didn't write this statement, which was directed toward Maria?
"She ACTUALLY thinks Islam has nothing to do with it, when in reality it has everything to do with it."

And if you do deny it get a moniker so I wouldn't confuse you, with the other anons who almost always have something backward, hateful or just plain contrary to say.

Clearly I don't have to make this stuff up. In fact I couldn't possibly make up such pernicious and misguided falsehoods.

And its obvious you don't believe in a JUST or LOVING God,if you did you wouldn't attack me for advocating universal brotherhood and sisterhood.

Hey Field- thanks for the fun. I knew this would draw out the Islam haters and I knew they would get it wrong.

Truth is they are opposed to revolution as well. They hate the working class and thus hate themselves and want to identify with some folks who have absolutely no love for them.

The ruling class is their color, but the ruling class doesn't consider these self haters their kind.

It seems to me these folks would do better especially the ones that call themselves Christians trying to find ways in which we can work together as human beings to make a better world.

Have a good weekend! Got more organizing to do tomorrow, but going to enjoy my Saturday night.

BTW Field our community visioning project went well today. Imagine that! Black folks organizing (not talking or typing about it, or sitting around writing about how bad they are) to improve their neighborhood school!

Oh look, Maria is now an expert on Egypt. She can cut and paste articles from a guy named Haroon. How cute!

I wish the secularist/pro-democracy/individual freedoms types all the luck in the world (even if our President won't stick his neck out for them), but if the government is completely overthrown (ie revolution rather than reform), they are going to steamrolled by the Islamists.

The President we elected is Barack Hussein Obama, not Dolomite or Richard Pryor. He gave $4,000.00 for a new car and health care and see how some of these white folk act? Those fools brought loaded machine guns to his rallies. Haven't you read the blogs on The Fox Nation? They said he's a Socialist. If the POTUS was to go on television and tell the truth the Tea Baggers would be acting like the people of Egypt right now. This man had read Fanon.Franz Fanon was a real revolutionary and friend of Jean-Paul Sartre.Fanon may have been a brother from Martinque, but he is a hero in Algeria, the Maghrib, and the Arab world. Read on some of the Arab blogs and see how THEY feel about the POTUS.

    To Field:

The Koch Brothers are having their secret meeting out in California with 200 of their fellow Billionairs and Millionaires. The topic of discussion, going after the POTUS. Maybe Spook supports the Koch Brothers endeavor to take over the country, but I don't.

You are wrong. You call black on black killing of children, bw, and bm survival skills? You call 70% OOW children survival skills? You call a 70% dropout rate in school survival skills? You call 50% drug addicted PTSD survival skills?

The only survival skills 'most' of our people seem to have are RUN FOR COVER, DENIAL, AND AN INCAPACITY TO FACE THE TRUTH.

That's why we are on the bottom.

Whites don't have that problem of survival. Don't be stupid and ignorant.

  80. Kid any Similarities between Fanon and Obama is purely coincidental, as in maybe they both wore leather jackets in college???? He he ha ha. I cannot believe you actually wrote about the "leather jacket" and "cigs" from Obama's book.
How romantic, maybe it's time to take off your rose colored classes. Obama night have read Fanon, but for what he's done in office, it certainly didn't rub on him.

Oh and Obama didn't actually give us healthcare, the bill was written by the insurance and drug industry which is why 50 million people still don't have heath insurance and there is no public option.

The only truth is that Obama is as much a change agent as Hosni is. Perhaps you need to stop watching fox news.

Oh puhleese! Where do you get your information? 70% this and 50% that! Always with the empty numbers, that's why you're so soulless and weak!

Have you been to a poor white neighborhood lately? Seen all the oow's, meth labs, drug addiction, alcoholism, not to mention the serial killers, and kidnappers which seem to claim exclusivity to the white race etc.?

OK, I got a little test I usually do to see if a brother is doing his job for the community:

    1. Does Jesse Lee Peterson hate him?

Jesse once jumped on Jesse Jackson Sr. and Jr. and was sued in court. Jesse Lee thank white people for slavery, it on his You Tube called "Jesse Lee Thanks White People for Slavery". Jesse works at Fox and is the Chairman of Sean Klannity's fake charity B.O.N.D.BTW, he likes Juan Williams.

    2. Does the Tea Party hate him?

    Duh!

3.Do the Klan and Stormfront hate him?

Yes they hate him and loves Juan Williams,Jesse Lee Peterson, and Glenn Ford from Black Agenda Report who says that the POTUS is not a real Marxist. Now why would Neo-Nazi's and White Supremacist quote a Black Nationalist and not comment about the POTUS not being a Marxist? Ratfuc**ng. Dirty tricks, Astroturfing, boy those bigots are scared of the Prez.

My fahter always said that you can tell if a Black man is doing a good job by how many white people hate him.

I think that the President is doing a good job.

  86. Kid, well I got a Big Test to see if a brother is doing his job for the community, it's called actually looking at what the "brotha" has done for the community. But I'm assuming your community is of the gilded elite, because that is the only community that Obama is helping. And the gilded elite loves him. You think Obama is doing a good job because clearly you are one of the church going mindless house negroes that "gots ta defend de Obama come hell o high water". Simply put, you are what's wrong with the Black community. It's why Obama isn't lifting a finger to help poor people because Negroes such as yourself will defend him no matter how much he caters to the wealthy elite. Obama is acting like the majority of Negro Politicians, unaccountable to those who elected him because they are not holding him accountable.

Seriously, kid I would ask you to check out the

  87. hobama is already deep in the egyptian melee...and his blackish hands are as bloody red as ever!!!

In the chaos, fury and smoke gripping Egypt, the bigger picture remains ever important. The regime of Hosni Mubarak is a brutal police state deserving popular overthrow to bring about long-overdue democracy and social justice, with the end of routine and pervasive human rights violations and that state’s criminal collusion with the US-sponsored Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. Nevertheless, the US and other Western governments continue to back Mubarak – a fact that should be to these governments’ shame and condemnation. Western governments may eventually have to save face by shoving Mubarak aside to be replaced with another, more palatable puppet. But one thing is for sure: if Egypt’s protest movement keeps pushing for deep and meaningful democratic change (revolution) – inspiring other countries in the region to do likewise – that will be a step too far for the puppet masters in Washington and their ilk. So, to that end, cue more dirty tricks and false flags just in case anti-democracy violence has to be ramped up in order to make “Egypt safe”. And on that score, the Egyptian regime will be able to count on the expertise of Western secret services and the mainstream media for a helping hand.
