"Good ole boys" are everywhere: Even in Maine.

I have been to Maine only once in my life. I went in the fall one year and it seemed like a beautiful enough place. But I have to wonder about the folks inhabiting that wonderful part of the country. How could any right minded person elect Paul LaPage to be their leader?

"Maine Gov. Paul LePage has constantly ruffled the feathers of the NAACP as he has declined invites from the organization. The most recent that has drawn the ire of the organization is his denial to attend the ceremonies honoring Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He shunned both an invite to an NAACP dinner in Portland on Sunday and a breakfast in Orono on Monday due to "personal committments."

As the NAACP and others see it, this is an ongoing pattern with the Republican governor spurning events that are African-American related. But LePage wants to hear no parts of that ongoing dialog and responded to the allegations when speaking with WCSH6.

He called the NAACP a "special interest" group and said that he will "not be held hostage by any special interests."

He also cited that his schedule conveniently prevents him from attending events such as this and "there's only so many hours in the day."

LePage feels that the NAACP is playing the "race card" and has an answer for that one as well.

In his best "I have a black friend" voice, LePage mentioned that his 25-year-old adopted son is black.

"If they want to play the race card, come to dinner and my son will talk to them," he said.

The NAACP has fired back and said that the organization is not welcome to LaPage's Maine.

And what does LePage - who stirred the pot when he suggested that he would tell Obama to "go to hell" if the current POTUS became president - have to say about all of these allegations?

'Tell them to kiss my butt...."' [Source]

Governor, there is some guy named Jealous on line one for you.

Seriously Gov. , I am no big fan of the NAACP myself, but as the leader of all the citizens of your fine state, (including the 50 black folks who brave it out by living there) it would have been nice of you to show some tact and be more respectful to a well established civil rights organization. (And did you really have to go there with the some of my own family members are black card?) I don't think it would have killed you to honor the legacy of a great A-merry-can who lost his life advocating for peace by attending one of those functions. Forget your petty differences with the NAACP and show some leadership. That's what true leaders do; they rise above the pettiness and do what is right for everyone.

Finally, it looks like the the authorities are coming down hard on folks who speak out of line now. I know it all stems from this Arizona shooting. Did former republi-clown congressional candidate, Cheryl Allen, really deserve to be tossed in jail for doing what tea partiers and wingnuts like to do?

"An Indiana woman who ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress last year was being held Saturday on charges she made threats against judges and other officials on her Facebook account.

Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega — who said he was among those targeted — said he decided to move quickly after discovering the threats in part due to last week's shootings in Arizona that wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others.

"I think the Arizona situation drove more to the sense of urgency," Sonnega told The Associated Press.

Cheryl Allen, 51, of Martinsville was being held on $100,000 bond Saturday in a jail in her hometown, about 28 miles south of Indianapolis. State police arrested her on eight felony counts of intimidation on Thursday, the same day authorities discovered the postings, which were apparently published on her page three days earlier.

Allen repeatedly maintained her innocence during a court hearing Friday. But after the charges were read, she said: "Someday, may someone get even with them," according to The Reporter-Times. She could face four to 24 years in prison if convicted, state police said.

The alleged threats mentioned four Morgan County judges, and other public officials — including Sonnega — were mentioned by first name. Media reports said Allen had previously filed a discrimination lawsuit that was dismissed by a judge.

"One day I will have my revenge on your seeking so much revenge on me," read one of the posts cited in media reports.

"Someday Boooooom while your setting in your offices," read a second. "And you know I won't even be the one pulling the trigger," said another.

A message seeking comment was left with Allen's attorney on Saturday, and her home phone number was disconnected.

Sonnega told the AP authorities had been monitoring Allen for months due to comments she had made about various public officials, but she hadn't "crossed the line" until this week. He said he contacted state police and appointed a special prosecutor, Barry Brown, after discovering the alleged threats.

"In light of what happened in Arizona ... we thought we had better act quickly," Sonnega said.

Brown was traveling and could not be reached for comment Saturday. The Reporter-Times said Brown said in court that authorities intend to have Allen's mental health evaluated. "

Allen ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for Indiana's 4th Congressional District seat in 2010, winning just 3 percent of the vote. The seat that was vacated by U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer was eventually won by new U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita.

Allen had criticized the courts' handling of her discrimination case during her campaign last year and suggested the system needed a major overhaul, according to The Reporter-Times. In a Facebook post on Jan. 8, the newspaper said she wrote: "What do you need to have done to get all the current government out of office? That is why we should own guns to go into court to get my right to trial back." [Source]

Yes, a mental health evaluation is needed. I could say that about all republi-clowns, but this one in particular seems a bit dangerous. Take her off the streets and get her some help. Maybe she can get better in time to be the 2012 republi-clown -presidential- nominee's running mate.

Now let me get out of here before I get the Andrew Williams treatment from Mrs. Field. Ouch!

Dear Field, I am a bm considering moving to the beautiful state of Maine where the people are friendly, have Blacks in their families, and don't have a racist bone in their body.

Why do you chastise the Governor? Isn't it enough proof of his non-bias toward Blacks by admitting that his own son is Black? What is wrong with you? Man, this racism chasing is really getting to you.

I bet the Gov would have you to dinner so you could talk to his son. How dare you insinuate that he is prejudiced when some black folks show their prejudice against Blacks on a regular basis. Why aren't you chasing their black butts? I'll answer that for you...it's because you are a racist against vulnerable helpless Whites!

Your "Black Privilege" is deeply ingrained in you and you are shamelessly hurting a lot of innocent white folks. The Governor was doing just fine until the NAACP started picking at him. Why won't they just leave the poor Governor alone? I believe they are harrassing the Poor Gov.

The correct thing to do would have been to attend the dinner out of respect, but make it clear that his attendance was not an endorsement of NAACP policies. Of course, the wingnuts up there would have more than likely chewed his ass out for being in the den of "those people". Around wingnuts and teabaggers, you gotta keep face, especially if you present yourself as a deeply conservative figure.

The governor of Maine finished raising a black male child that a black man abandoned.

I don't care if the governor didn't attend some NAACP function. Raising a black boy that a black man abandoned is far more important in terms of determining the governor's true character.

The governor is certainly a better man than the deadbeat (black) biological sperm donor "dad" who abandoned the black child who the governor adopted.

f the NAACP. They will condone the henious behavior of any black person as long as they believe in affirmative action. homophobic? not a problem! anti asian racism? Just fine! Anti-semetic? oh, you were just advocating for the Palestinians!! (even if your remark had nothing to do with the Palestinians). Sexist? fine, especially if it's targeted towards white or asian women.
The NAACP is no more a "civil rights" or "anti racist" organization then the KKK at this point in history. f them. chickens come home to roost.

Hypocrisy? Hypocrisy oh one of small stature and intellect. The NAACP is the same organization who cried because they think Black Holes are non scientific and code racism for black ho's . I guess they thought Hallmark was speakin dat ebonics.

They are a special interest group pandering only and exclusively to Blacks, irregardless of wether things are right or wrong. Actually most black men today have a problem properly raising their kids. The white governor of Maine raised a black male child that a black man abandoned.

Where would that black child be if the governor had not taken him in? The governor, based on his kindness to an abandoned black child, could not possibly be a "wingnut".

How many abandoned black children have YOU adopted?

Do you seriously believe that all Black men have a problem properly raising their kids? Or are you simply magnifying the actions of a sorry select few to represent the entirety of the Black male population?

Good on the gov for adopting this kid....unless he's used/using this kid as a sort of "see? I like Blacks. Hell, I even adopted one" kind of trophy. That's not a good look.

"They are a special interest group pandering only and exclusively to Blacks, irregardless of wether things are right or wrong."

You have special interest groups pandering exclusively to Latinos. And gays and lesbians. And Catholics. Hell, at one point in time, you had several groups pandering exclusively to White Americans.

You anons are grasping for straws today. It must be the weekend shift over at Anon, Inc. They're not as good as the weekday people :)

If the NAACP played the race card, then the govenor played the dummy card. The kid he refers to is 25 years old, was not legally adopted and is not a citizen of the United States. (He's one of your homies, Field. Jamaican.)(LePage said, referring to Devon Richard, a 25-year-old black Jamaican whom LePage took into his home at the age of 17. From the Star Tibune 1/14/11.)
But just in case the ink did at some point dry on an adoption paper,(Funny, that they don't have the same last name. I've done a few adoptions, doesn't work that way.)let us not forget Stom Thurmand had a black biological daughter and it didn't mean a damn thing with regard to his race policies.

  14. khia2137:49 AM

    From Maine Public Broadcasting:

LePage often refers to 25-year-old Devon Raymond of Jamaica as his "adopted son." And although the governor and his wife are putting Raymond through college, and Raymond has attended LePage family gatherings with the LePage's other children on a regular basis since the age of 17, Raymond has not been formally adopted. He is also not a U.S. citizen.

I knew I had seen it somewhere.

    Thank you khia213. :)

Yes, Devon is here in A-merry-ca and attending college. He went to live with the good Gov. when he was 17, and has never been formally adopted.

I would enjoy that. Devon and I could have a nice little chat right in front of him and he would not understand a word we said.

BTW wingnut, if that is considered an adoption, I have quite a few kids of my own.

anonymous 12:44 showed some skill in writing a satirical, ironic comment. Take a lesson from him. After reading his comment, see if you can understand why your two sentences about Palin (I know...) don't cut the mustard as satire or irony.

In short, your sentences made YOU, the writer, the "target" of the purported satire. But since we know you did not intend to "target" yourself, we know your attempt at satire and irony went nowhere.

By the way, if something is ironic, then its meaning is the opposite of what is written. Try the irony test on your Palin comment.

  18. Inasmuch as the governor of Maine governs over a state with a tiny black population and that it can be assumed they did not vote for him, there is no reason for him to concern himself with organizations that have no affect on the well being of Maine.

YOu can say he's rude and thoughtless, but, so what? Lots of politicians fall onto that category.

One our finest city councilmen -- Charles Barron -- is one of those. He has said publicly -- "I hate white people, especially Jews".

And he has submitted legislation to the city council aimed at giving legal recognition to Ebonics. He wants it taught in public schools.

Then there's Cynthia McKinney, who has publicly stated she believes the Bush administration was somehow responsible for 9/11.

Seems to me that accusing the president and his administration of committing mass murder goes a little further than the unfriendly attitude of the Maine's governor.

You have the standard problem of thinking readers CAN read your mind.

It's a common problem. Less effective writers are prone to thinking that readers can see things that are not present in their writing.

Ok, so the governor has not formally adopted the young black man. The governor is paying his way thru college. He doesn't HAVE to do this. Since this is apparently not his kid, the governor deserves EVEN MORE kudos for sending this young black man to college.

Where would this young black man be if this white governor (who you call a good ole boy) wasn't supporting him?

  22. Field, let me speak for Maine and thanks for the shoutout on your side bar. For starters LeCrazy only won by 1 percentage point of 38% of the vote...we had 5 folks running for governor and the Democrat who should have dropped out ended up splitting the vote with the Independent (Eliot Cutler) who lost by something like 8400 votes to LePage.

So for starters most folks in Maine did not vote for this crazy mofo and most don't care for him. Its generally our older folks and the ones way up north that like this fool.

As for this recent LePage flap turns out the kid ain't his kid...and now he says he will meet with the NAACP though he has not given a time.

Tucson shooting victim detained at taping of TV special

'You're dead,' man yells while photographing Tea Party spokesman
    Below:

A Tucson mass shooting victim was taken into custody Saturday after yelling "you're dead" at a Tea Party spokesman during the taping of an ABC-TV town hall event hosted by Christianne Amanpour.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office said J. Eric Fuller, 63, was involuntarily committed to an undisclosed medical facility, NBC News reported. The Associated Press said he was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

He faces charges of threats and intimidation and disorderly conduct, according to Tucson TV station KGUN.

Local officials and others also packed St. Odilia's Catholic Church in northwest Tucson, where the show was taped.

KGUN reported that Fuller took exception to comments by Republican state Rep. Terri Proud and Tucson Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries.

Fuller was in the front row and apparently became upset when Humphries suggested that any conversations about gun control should be delayed until all the dead were buried, KGUN reported.

Fuller took a picture of Humphries and shouted, “You’re dead.”

Some media reports said Fuller kept booing and making other remarks before deputies escorted him from the church.

Also at the church were Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup, Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., and former Rep. Jim Kolbe.

If Humphries decides not to press charges, the charges will be dropped, Pima Deputy Jason Ogan told Phoenix station KNXV.

The hospital will determine when he will be released, Ogan said.

  42. Hey Brother Field,
You know as a child I didn't really give much credence to my Grandmother's ideas on race because I felt her ideas were antiquated and irrelevant. However the invasion of Anons have actually proven something she would often say quite true! White folks really just want to be us that's why they can't stay away from us. They hate that they're jealous of us but it's one of those things hard-wired into their psyche like our enduring resilliance. (Listen to the way the white guys talk on ESPN) They hate that no matter what evil they perpetuate and perpetrate we continue to rise. Why else would they continue to come back here? Your opinions and views are pretty consistent so why come here everyday? Because they're small people in their own world and like their grandpappys the only way to make themselves feel big they must try to make us feel small. Really what would they have if the word nigger didn't still get under our skin? We make as much if not more money than they do; we live in the same (if not better) neighborhoods than they do; and while they work very hard to add just enough nuance to public policy to make it harder for us to succeed we continue to ascend. I think instead of blocking them let them come and just ignore them. Who cares what they think? They are pitiful small people who can't hang on other political sites so they come here because they can at least bait us and get us to engage with racist rhetoric. We run circles around them in any and everything we do except that serial killer thing--they are still pretty much winning there.

Instead of discussing wingnuts who threaten death to all who decline to follow their every whim with obedience...we are treated to the fantasy of an armed populace being safer. Let us recap...wingnuts who don't get their way promise to bring firearms and force others to do their bidding. I decline to conform to their vastly greater stoopidity.

  45. Whassup FN family!

Hope yall are having a nice weekend.

I also appreciate Field and many other posters who expressed disgust with the odious actions of the anon troll.

I believe that it was LAC who pointed out that this kind of behavior is common among racists and righties on the web.

They are the only ones who threaten, intimidate, stalk and harrass on liberal or black oriented blogs.

And then, amazingly, conservative blogs are the only ones who censor or ban posters for expressing opposing opinions!

Outside of the internet, the righties bring firearms to political rallies, physically attack dissenters and consistently suggest violence when referencing ideological opponents.

I am sick of the main stream media seeking equivalence when discussing the ugly tone of todays political environment.

It's all coming from the right.

    Let's tell the truth.

  47. "And though many promo pieces for the tea-bag gov's child or adopted child (who is not adopted) are supposed to prove he ain't racist, may I point out that a slew of slaveholder's had black children including a few past Presidents."

Amen, only not a few presidents,it was more like every single one of them who were slaveholder's, and that includes every single white politician from the White House to the Congress, including Judges. That's why slavery last as long as it did to protect their profit interest. And another reason why they came up with that little law that the mother's slave status determined the childs status. Talk about child abandonment, those slaveholders were the leaders in child abandonment.

"Who else here "scroll on by" when they see the name "no_slappz"?"

    Okay, I confess, I'm guilty.

"the kid's father was lapage's caddie. my guess is he'd be living with his ACTUAL father in maine."

    Now, that's the truth there!

"Maybe it is to change the discussion from wackaloon wingnuts who threaten any who don't do exactly as the wingnuts wish to another topic."

    Hmmm...you got a point there.

"Maybe that's all he has--his computer and hate to nourish on a daily basis."

"In regard to the governor of Maine. Many of us have encountered more than a few white folks who love "exceptional" Negroes. You know the mantra..."when I see you I don't see a black person". The underlying take is that you aren't like those people. They may love their spouse/co-worker/friend/"adopted son" who happens to be black but they still harbor bigoted attitudes towards that ethnic group"

You hit the nail on the head with that one and analyzed it down to a tee. In fact, you hammered that one with 100% truth.

    I second Brooklyn comment.

  48. Which conservative talk show host was the one who drove Jahmell Crockam to murder Officer Christopher Matlosz in New Jersey?

Police Arrest Suspect in NJ Officer's Fatal Shooting

    Jan 16, 2011 – 9:49 AM

AP LAKEWOOD, N.J - Police arrested a 19-year-old suspect Sunday morning in the fatal shooting of a New Jersey police officer, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jahmell W. Crockam is accused of shooting Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz Friday afternoon after the officer drove up to him and began to question him.

He was arrested without incident in Camden on Sunday morning, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case who was not authorized to speak publicly.

Crockam was charged Saturday with murder and weapons offenses.

The suspect had already been returned to Lakewood, where he was being held Sunday morning. He is expected to be brought before a judge on Tuesday.

A judge has already set bail for him at $5 million, with no opportunity to post 10 percent of that amount in cash to gain his release.

"Our thoughts first and foremost are for the officer's family; hopefully this will let the healing begin," said Deputy Mayor Steven Langert. "It was an atrocious crime. Anytime you have a crime of this magnitude, it's a shock to every civilized person out there.

"We're all grateful he was arrested as quickly as he was," Langert said. "Life will be changed forever for the officer's family, and for all of Lakewood. We need to feel that for each other."

Crockam, whose street name is "Sav," - short for "Savage" - had fled to Camden, a poor city on the opposite side of the state, just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. A dragnet encompassing at least three states and more than 100 officers had been searching for him since the shooting Friday at 4 p.m.

Authorities have said 27-year-old Matlosz drove up to Crockam as Crockam was walking and began speaking with him in a non-confrontational manner when the suspect suddenly stepped back, pulled out a handgun and shot the officer three times.

The suspect fled on foot, touching off a massive house-to-house search that involved armored vehicles, officers clad in body armor, teams of search dogs and helicopters.

Crockam had been a fugitive since December 29, when the prosecutor's office obtained an arrest warrant for him on charges of possessing an illegal rifle and hollow-point bullets. It was not immediately clear whether Matlosz knew of the arrest warrant or whether that was why he approached Crockam and began talking to him Friday afternoon.

Matlosz had been on the Lakewood police force for four years, and was engaged to be married next year.

  53. steve, you have to read frank rich's column today. exactly as i have been saying.
Others on the right spent last week loudly protesting the politicization of tragedy. What was most revealing was how often they tried to rewrite the history of previous incidents having nothing to do with Loughner. A Palin aide claimed that her target map was only invoking a “surveyor’s symbol,” not gun sights. A Tucson Tea Party leader announced that the attack on Giffords’s office (never solved by the police) was probably caused by skateboarding kids. Mike Pence, a potential G.O.P. “values” candidate for president, told the C-Span audience that those bearing firearms at Congressional town hall meetings and Obama events (including one in Arizona that August of 2009) were no different from anti-Bush demonstrators “waving placards.”

For macabre absurdity, it would seem hard to top Newt Gingrich, who wailed about leftists linking Loughner to the right as if he had not famously blamed a psychotic double-murder of 1994, Susan Smith’s drowning of her two sons in South Carolina, on “Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society.” But Representative Trent Franks, Republican of Arizona, did top Newt. On “Meet the Press” last Sunday he implored us to “treat each other as fellow children of God” without acknowledging (or being questioned about) his 2009 diatribe branding Obama as “an enemy of humanity.”

As the president said in Tucson, we lack not just civil discourse, but honest discourse. Much of last week’s televised bloviation was dishonest, dedicated to the pious, feel-good sentiment that both sides are equally culpable for the rage of the past two years. To construct this false equivalency, every left-leaning Web site and Democratic politician’s record was dutifully culled for incendiary invective. If that’s the standard, then both sides are equally at fault — rhetoric can indeed be as violent on the left as on the right.

But that sidesteps the issue. This isn’t about angry blog posts or verbal fisticuffs. Since Obama’s ascension, we’ve seen repeated incidents of political violence. Just a short list would include the 2009 killing of three Pittsburgh police officers by a neo-Nazi Obama-hater; last year’s murder-suicide kamikaze attack on an I.R.S. office in Austin, Tex.; and the California police shootout with an assailant plotting to attack an obscure liberal foundation obsessively vilified by Beck.

That Loughner was likely insane, with no coherent ideological agenda, does not mean that a climate of antigovernment hysteria has no effect on him or other crazed loners out there. Nor does Loughner’s insanity mitigate the surge in unhinged political zealots acting out over the last two years.

Field's reaction to the Governor taking a black man into his own home is typical leftist hypocrisy. Those who perform real acts of morality earn the scorn of those whose "morality" is a mask for resentment. Just as Sarah Palin is hated for not aborting her Downs Syndrome baby, Governor LePage is now hated on for personally helping out a black youth in need.

Liberalism requires a concerted effort to discount all facts that don't reinforce a flawed worldview. The recent effort to turn the Tuscon shootings into political advantage shows just how desperate and pathetic the American left has become.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The vast majority of politcal violence, both rhetorical and actual, emanates from the left. As far as it goes, Palin's use of a circle with crosshairs was probably inspired by her knowledge of telescopic gunsights.

But to anyone who has fired a weapon fitted with a scope AND used a surveyor's scope, it's obvious that both offer the same image to the viewer.

Thus, this argument is another silly tempest over a distinction without a difference. But, liberals are determined to keep it going.

  67. @Field, its rather embarrassing that this Maine Governor not only insult the NAACP unnecessarily, but he used his 'adopted son' as a human shield. Look, he insulted the premiere civil rights organization - he could have simply sent a delegate from his office. No, he chose to to literally tell the NAACP to kiss his ass. (He wouldn't even think of doing this to the ADL, but that's another story.)

Maria, I read the Op-Ed and it was spot on. No, Sarah Palin didn't beam messages into this kid's head to told him to go Terminator on a junior Congresswoman and a bunch of grocery shoppers. But, the culture of political violence (verbal and physical), easy access to better guns than Ivory Coast rebels and a horrible mental healthcare system is a toxic brew that make guys like Jared Loughner a uniquely American reality.
