"Honey I am home!" It's nice to be back on the plantation, it really is. I really love traveling but Philly is where my heart is. (At least for now.)
Before I forget; thanks for all the holiday shout outs and the wonderful e-mails and comments that you all left me. Right back at [everyone of] you.
Now enough of the niceties; let's talk.
I recently encouraged all of you who care about real American history to visit the wonderful President's House Memorial here in Philly. Sadly, not everyone shares my sentiments. It seems that some big shot arts critic from the New Yaawk Times took issue with the new attraction here in the city where our "founding fathers" left their mark.

It seems that some big shot arts critic from the New Yaawk Times took issue with the new attraction here in the city where our "founding fathers" left their mark.
Edward Rothstein penned the following:
"PHILADELPHIA — The convulsive currents that roil the telling of American history have become so familiar that they now seem an inseparable part of the story itself. Here is a nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to a proposition of human equality, that, for much of its first century of life, countenanced slavery, institutionally supported it and economically profited from it. The years that followed have been marked by repair, reform and reversals; recompense, recrimination and reinterpretation. Extraordinary ideals and achievements have been countered by extraordinary failings and flaws, only to be countered yet again, each turn yielding another round of debates......
And here, in this city where the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were signed; where a $300 million Independence National Historical Park has been created, leading from the National Constitution Center to Independence Hall; and where the Liberty Bell, as a symbol of the nation’s ideals, draws well over a million visitors a year, a great opportunity existed to explore these primal tensions more closely on a site adjacent to the Liberty Bell Center in Independence park. Unfortunately, those opportunities have been squandered in “The President’s House: Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation” which opens on Wednesday.....
“History is not neat,” we read. “It is complicated and messy. It is about people, places and events that are both admirable and deplorable.” And the President’s House, we are told, “exposes the core contradiction at the founding of this nation: enshrinement of liberty and the institution of slavery.”
But what precisely is being exposed? A few yards away, the Liberty Bell Center discusses abolition and slavery; the park’s visitor center has an exhibition about the Underground Railroad; the nearby African American History Museum has a powerful audio and video history of blacks in Philadelphia. Accounts of slavery are even found at Mount Vernon.
Here, though, we get neither a sense of the place, nor a sense of the issues (and much of the year, the open air will be inhospitable). We don’t learn about the differences between Washington and Adams. We don’t learn much about the pictured events. There is no real narrative. Illustrations can also be melodramatically contentious: we see a seemingly disdainful Washington dangling a “peace medal” before a suspicious Seneca Indian leader
As for slave life, it is also difficult to piece together. The video screens that come to life above the fake mantels give the impression of a half-finished 21st-century home. The videos themselves (with scripts by Lorene Cary), in which slaves and servants provide first-person accounts of experiences, at least provide some sense of life. But how do we put these experiences in context? What was Philadelphia’s free black community like? How did white workers and black slaves live together here?
We are told that the President’s House “offers an opportunity to draw lessons from the past.” But what lessons? That Washington was flawed? That slavery was an abomination? Are these revelations? A memorial to the practice of slavery is mounted here, inscribed with the names of African tribes from which slaves derived, but it has no particular relationship to Philadelphia or this site. The need for some such memorial is keen, but here it seems thumped down as an intrusion..." [Read the full article here]
And that, my friends, is the problem with so many folks in the majority population: They view the sad legacy of slavery as nothing but an "intrusion". Memorials such as this one only reminds us of the flaws that even the "greatest" among us had. And if they were flawed, what does that say about us?
I am glad that folks like Annete John- Hall and my friend Michael Coard responded.
"The esteemed critic obviously missed the point of the exhibit.
Rothstein argues that the commemoration, by focusing on slavery, loses sight of other important history. You know, real American history.
Like more about George Washington, for one. The father of our country, America's foremost patriot. Military man. President. Name and image affixed to every stamp, currency, school and monument you can possibly imagine.
Except that a narrow little inconvenient truth surfaced as plans were made to build a president's house memorial. Something conveniently omitted from my history books: Washington unapologetically owned more than 300 Africans, nine of whom he shuttled back and forth between his Virginia plantation and his presidential home in Philadelphia." [Source]
Well put, Anette. But you have a long way to go if you want to convince the rest of A-merry-ca that your position is the correct one. I leave you with the words of "Tyrome". (Not a real name, I am sure. Just someone trying to be funny by poking fun at what he/she perceives as an ethnic name from a certain group.)
"PC ot[sic] of control. We don’t care about 1700-era slave stuff. The whole slave/victim/in-the-past thing is gettning[sic] real old to Americans.
My Irish ancestors where mistreated but thats[sic] not worth building a monument.
George Washington did great things for OUR country. People shouldn’t hijack it to push there[sic] PC victimhood shtick. "
2011 should be fun.
"Little things" such as this get swept under the carpet and forgotten if it happens to stand in the way of "greatness".
ReplyDeleteOnce "real" Americans achieve the silence on slavery that they fervently seek, who's to say that they won't fall back into the old habits of their predecessors? People fail to learn from history every single day and thus they are doomed to repeat the same mistakes, over and over again.
shut up mackunt! ya self important loser!
ReplyDeleteOnce "real" Americans achieve the silence on slavery that they fervently seek,
ReplyDeleteNow thats funny. Ever go the movies with Black People? Silence? Never happen.
Yawn....the eternal victims. Living the lives of someone else in history.
My ancestors died defeating slavery. So? Next subject please.
Nosmo you are a pretty disrespectful person. I wouldn't visit a sight memorializing your friends or your family or your ancestors and talk about their shortcomings.
ReplyDeleteIt would be like me standing up at a memorial for your family saying, the majority of serial killers are white or that historically white folks seem to always be somewhere killing or enslaving or colonizing or stealing from peoples who don't look like them every time they run into them.(Indians, blacks, Chinese, South Asians, muslims etc.)Or that rich white folks don't even care about other white folks look at how they treat each other in class society and don't even talk about the Industrial Revolution where the white owners made the white children as young as 8 years old work in their filthy factories.
Your attitude only hurts you because it keeps you from seeing that at bottom, all human beings are brothers and sisters. It only benefits the rich folks who rip off all our wages and pee on us and tell us its raining to go around with a chip on your shoulder about a particular race.
"Yawn....the eternal victims. Living the lives of someone else in history."
ReplyDeleteYes, but they stuck us in their history. Believe me, we wanted no part of it.
"My ancestors died defeating slavery. So? Next subject please."
That first sentence reminds me of the story of the chicken and what they pig told him about breakfast.
Hey Field I keep losing my posts but I will try again.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the critic missed the point and that is we can learn from Washington's obvious hypocrisy. It reminds us that we have to choose sometimes between what is expediant and what is comfortable and beneficial and what is right.
And it is obvious that the negative responses show that the propagandists have somewhat succeeded because somehow black history and the history of black oppression isn't that important.
That first sentence reminds me of the story of the chicken and what they pig told him about breakfast.
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes. Contribution versus sacrifice. Well, I guess my killed ancestors say your welcome. Don't expect it again with this type of gratitude.
"Yes, Yes. Contribution versus sacrifice. Well, I guess my killed ancestors say your welcome. Don't expect it again with this type of gratitude."
ReplyDeleteI don't understand -- are Blacks supposed to be on bended knee just because you walk around carrying the works of your ancestors on your chest like some sort of moral medal? Does that give you the privilege of not having to acknowledge in the least bit the role that your people have played in perpetuating civil injustices visited upon Blacks in this country's history?
I'm sure your ancestors were honorable men who sacrificed for the greater good in this country. Care to tell us who they are and how they contributed to the fabric of American history?
Nosmo are you trying to tell us something are you planning on reenslaving black folks.
ReplyDeleteAnd are you sure your ancestors participated in the Civil War? And are you sure he was fighting for the cause of ending slavery, because a large percentage of Union troops were fighting for Yankee pride and many others had no choice they were conscripts.
In fact the North was losing the war because the Northern troops weren't quite as inspired as those who wanted to maintain the institution of slavery and of course the North's troops were also poorly lead.
Lincoln decided to issue the Proclamation and to allow blacks to fight with the union so that they could win the war.
So don't go overrating your cousins contributions.

Did you ever have a friend who endlessly complained? Even after you had all night sessions talking about his problems and really feel for them. This friend still every time you talk, whines and whines and whines and always seem to have an excuse to blame someone else for every choice they made in their life or find another baseless injustice the world has visited opon them. To the point thier conversations sound like waahhh. wahhh. wahhhh. How long did it take you before you started avoiding that person and realizing they had real problems and personality issues in dealing with reality .Let alone being an adult and moving on and taking responsibility for themselves? You just cant have a normal conversation with permanent victims (mostly of their own making) can you.
Slavery was an abomination. Never forget it, talk about it. But dont think for a minute that people arent literally disgusted with seeing and hearing someone who had absolutely nothing to do with it for generations attack others who also had nothing to do with it for generations based on the infantile premise of skin color.
Or not and just continue the wonderful path that this has led you to so far. In the end. No one has to listen. Isnt that right?
"That first sentence reminds me of the story of the chicken and what they pig told him about breakfast."
ReplyDelete"In breakfast, the chicken is merely involved. The hog is commmitted."
I used to have that as a signature back at Free Republic. Yeah, I was a Freeper, once. Kinda hard to admit such a shameful past :D
"Did you ever have a friend who endlessly complained...how long did it take you before you started avoiding that person and realizing they had real problems and personality issues in dealing with reality?
ReplyDeleteThis goes back to the so-called maxim that Blacks are complaining too much about their condition and that if they complain too much, the whole "Boy crying Wolf" syndrome will kick in and Whites will ignore serious moral and societal breaches against the Black community. And it ignores the fact that many Whites would rather ignore Blacks and pretend they didn't exist.
"Slavery was an abomination. Never forget it, talk about it. But dont think for a minute that people arent literally disgusted with seeing and hearing someone who had absolutely nothing to do with it for generations attack others who also had nothing to do with it for generations based on the infantile premise of skin color."
I assume this was how many Japanese feel when other peoples begin talking about their deeds in WWII. The Japanese have even gone so far as to somewhat exclude most of their WWII history from school textbooks, creating generations of people who are blissfully unaware of the atrocities that their grandparents and great-grandparents' generation participated in.
I bet Mr. Edward Rothstein would balk, if not outright protest anyone who dared said that they're sick of hearing about the Holocaust or took a non-mainstream view about Israel-Palestine or the 7 Day War.
ReplyDeleteI for one say 'Good' maybe a few white folks will learn a little more about our shameful past (For example, one of the banks that BOA absorbed, Fleet Bank, was originally started to insure and finance slave ships and their 'cargo'. Yes, BOA's evil go back further than the mortgage crisis - but that's another story.)
Slavery and the slaughter of Native Americans are American History's 'Inconvenient Truths' - we're a country built on the oppression, rape and outright murder of Black and brown people. and no amount of huffing is going to sweep those facts under the rug.

Either this is a really bad joke or you are a moron. Don't try your liberal bullshit tricks with me. Where did I ever once even hint I was pro slavery you weak minded racist. Nice try for the kiddie bench.
Slavery was an abomination and I wish it never happened. No one should (although just about every race was enslaved in history) ever be enslaved.
Stop the nonsense. If you cant act like an adult and speak with reason and facts rather then making up your own fantasies, get out of the sandbox.
As for the rest of your attempt to assume you know who my ancestors were and belittle their contribution by trying to paint that the only whites who were against slavery were conscripts, This is ludicrous and outrageously infantile. Are you really trying to say that no whites were against slavery and actually ended it? Unless they were forced? Now do you really expect someone to listen to you after such a horrible attempt at saying such a poorly thought out premise and that I shouldnt be proud that my ancestors fought against slavery?
You are precisely the reason people are tired of endless of absolutely no use except creating more division whining.
Man up or step away from the adult table. Your embarassing yourself.
"Yes, Yes. Contribution versus sacrifice. Well, I guess my killed ancestors say your welcome. Don't expect it again with this type of gratitude."
ReplyDeleteI am guessing that your ancestors were more like the chicken. Not in terms of their valor on the battle field, of course. Just trying to stay in line with our little metaphor.
"Did you ever have a friend who endlessly complained? Even after you had all night sessions talking about his problems and really feel for them. Operative word being "friend". I think we have to get to the friend part, first.
"or find another baseless injustice the world has visited opon them."
How can injustice be baseless?
Typical nonsense. Majority folks are always telling us how we should feel about certain subjects and to "get over it". When enough people know about our history and our contributions I'll stop talking about it but until then STFU and go back to storm front or whatever site you guys go to to rag about us darkies K? Our truth is as real as yours so if you can celebrate confederate history month I can damn sure look at my past too. Go to a Jewish site and tell them to get over the holocaust. Yes, seeing the past through my eyes is uncomfortable for many but that don't make it inferior or something to be ignored. Instead of lecturing why not listen to our unheard story, you might learn something.
ReplyDeleteI am guessing that your ancestors were more like the chicken. Not in terms of their valor on the battle field, of course. Just trying to stay in line with our little metaphor.
ReplyDeleteNow why would you Assume that? Are you saying that you think all whites are only mild participants and none have sacrificed anything? Do you really believe that? Do you logically think slavery or any other form of oppression could have been subdued without the majority of whites fighting the same battles?
"Did you ever have a friend who endlessly complained? Even after you had all night sessions talking about his problems and really feel for them. OK. Thats pretty clear. I guess you consider non whites enemies instead of friends. Sad. But explains the views.

Come on now. Stop playing.
"Did you ever have a friend who endlessly complained...how long did it take you before you started avoiding that person and realizing they had real problems and personality issues in dealing with reality?
ReplyDeleteMost Americans know little of slavery, how slaves lived or even the skills they had. I found out about the slave chef that Washington had during his time as President, from a cooking show. I also found out from a TV show that Washington's home was so designed, so that his foreign guest and dignitaries wouldn't see the slaves. This wasn't something known to me or that was repeated constantly during 64 years before I became aware.
You haven't been bombarded with the history of slaves in this country and you are being disingenuous if you say you are. It would seem that if you are an intelligent person, the aspects of slavery would be as interesting as that of the dramatization of John Adams life.

Mack. Of course not. I dont "carry my ancestors good works around on my chest like a medal, I simply made a quick statement. Nor should YOU carry around the mistreatement of your ancestors on your chest like a medal. That would not be logical would it and be contradictory to your statements.
As for my admitting that "my people" perpetuated the injustices. This is precisely my point. They werent my people and I am not claiming any privilege. Reality and truth are not "privileges" they are reality and truth. These people you are referring to are people who happened to have the same outer wrapping I do. SO what. I am sure if I look hard enough I have ancestors that were both honorable people as well as a few murderers or something else that would be nasty. Know what? It has Absolutely nothing at all to do with me, who I am, what I achieve and what I do. Just as who you are, what you achieve or what you do not has absolutely nothing to do with some remote person in history with a similar skin color. Or someone today committing atrocities that might have the same outer wrapping as you.
I think your request for my ancestors names is made in jest. I do prefer not to divulge all of my personal information on the internet and really what would that add to the conversation anyway, unless you are simply looking to discredit someone. But, I tell you what. If you give me your ancestors names related to your family and who were slaves and in what country. I will send you mine.
"I think your request for my ancestors names is made in jest. I do prefer not to divulge all of my personal information on the internet and really what would that add to the conversation anyway, unless you are simply looking to discredit someone."
ReplyDeleteThe request wasn't made in jest. I am actually interested in how your ancestors contributed to the history of this nation. And it would also add a dimension of authenticity that semi-anonymous conversations usually lack.
"But, I tell you what. If you give me your ancestors names related to your family and who were slaves and in what country. I will send you mine."
I'd consider that if I wasn't so worried about not receiving any amount of reciprocation on your part. It would be a bit silly to do my part and not receive anything from you in return.

Do what you like. This reply was directed to the racist PilotX. If you also agree and think the way to have a conversation with someone is to tell them to "go back to stormfront and rag about darkies" avoid discussion and just cast aspersions by mentioning stormfront, jews, holocausts and any other racist mantra a racist can come up with. Then frankly. I dont want to discuss anything more with you either. For its not discussion, it childish racist rhetoric designed to cutoff discussion.
How do you say chair in spanish? Silla.
Well if I had known it was that easy I would have done that long ago. BTW, it's you're not your genius. I love being called a racist but what do you expect in the age of conservative bizarro world logic. Ya know, if you had not come to a Black website dismissing Black history and accusing Black people of being whiners then maybe we could have had a civil discussion but I'm sure I would not have learned much from you anyway. I love the typical white male accusing Black people of being whiners but they come to site such as this whining about us whining. Irony is lost on conservatives and fools, one in the same no? Limbaugh listening fools that say they are sick of us but I bet he doesn't even know any Black folks cause folks like us that are more successful than these hateful pricks really rub them the wrong way. White dudes have had the world given to them while our parents had to fight racist pricks like that and STILL became successful but losers like that couldn't even make it when the game was rigged in his favor. So silly boy stop coming to our home and whining about how you have to listen to us, simply go away and cry into your pillow while Rush tells you how special you are and how Black people are persecuting you. I'm glad you aren't Black cause you would never make it son. Learn a little history and how to spell and maybe I'll deal with your silly ass.
ReplyDeleteNosmo King, "My ancestors died defeating slavery. So? Next subject please."
ReplyDeleteWe need to also honor those who fought to free the slaves. Otherwise, FN blog would not be here today. Of course, don't expect any Blacks to be grateful. I am Black and I have never met a grateful Negro in America. But I have met plenty who complain.
On the other hand, Asians and Latinos are quietly working their way into the mainstream of America.
Blacks are not only trying to fight the Whites, they are having tremendous success fighting each other.

Where in the world do you get all this shit from? You better take a dump and clear out some of this fecal matter. We are done humoring you and your sterotypical kind as you succintly put it.
You seem to reverse just about every bit of reality there is.
Delusional much? You know we in my position have a saying for you. You are nothing more then a glorified taxi driver. Yes, I am sure you have heard your management say this, especially in your case.
Yes. The man who can barely string a coherent thought together without delving into la-la disneyland is picking on typos.

"Now do you really expect someone to listen to you after such a horrible attempt at saying such a poorly thought out premise and that I shouldnt be proud that my ancestors fought against slavery? "
The individual mentality and hearts of your ancestors was not in the business of fighting to free a bunch of black slaves, let's just get that straight. They were initially and primarily fighting for their own economic gain against the prosperous South. Freeing black slaves was an after thought, something conveniently used to cripple the south economically. Please take that played out fairytale you people tell each other during camp fires somewhere else, and keep it real in the sandbox.
Thank you.
Wow. Looks like it's going to be a banner year for Blacks and Whites on FN blog. Well, they said 2011 was going to be better than 2010. Already things are looking up between FN Blacks and Whites. Field, you have one hell of a blog. Where else can Blacks and Whites show up and tell each other off? Some even say, "FUCK YOU."
ReplyDeleteOf course, we all know who that small minded Negro is. I wish he weren't a part of the black race. But I suppose that is part of our collective karma? God, I wish he and Mellaneous and PilotX would just go away. They are so embarrassing and so insecure. I don't know where they get their thoughts from but you can be sure it's not from earth.
Wonder why the Latinos aren't involved? Let me answer that for you. They are too busy working and gaining traction in America for their families...they don't give a shit about the same ole century 'Black and White' argument cause everybody knows it anyway.
In addition, they don't give a shit about Blacks, anyway. But they will gladly accept our support-which they never asked for in the first place, in order to get ahead.
Blacks are so thoughtful and kind... and stupid.
Field, "And that, my friends, is the problem with so many folks in the majority population: They view the sad legacy of slavery as nothing but an "intrusion"."
ReplyDeleteBrotha Field, when are you going to get pass this shit? Do you really expect Whites to be able to see it YOUR way? GET REAL. The writer spoke the truth from a White perspective in 2011. What do you WANT from Whites?
For pete's sake, slavey ended centuries ago. Give the whining and complaining a rest! This why black conservatives are far ahead of you 'living-in-the-past-sick-minded-progressive-liberal-black-dumBO-crab-Negroes. You really need to take a good look at your weak-minded-insecure-whining-powerless selves.
There is a lot we dont know about slaves and slavery. For example, I have no idea how slave women dealt with feminine issues, given the fact that they were essentially supposed to do labor all day, six days a week.
ReplyDeleteAnd I used to portray a slave at a plantation house museum, and I dont know!
Im just saying - theres a lot to be learned.
It's too late. History has been lost. There isn't that much info about slave women or slaves period. What info there is, one doesn't know how accurate it is about Blacks. Only the Whites can be certain about their history.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was back in the States in Nov. I bought and read 'The Warmth of Other Suns' and now know why the only black people you see in my mom's neighborhood are nannies or cleaning ladies (and tangentially why the only hispanic people are ones carrying leaf-blowers). The events - the lynchings, the virtual enslavement of sharecropping, the segregated trains, toilets, motels, schools - related in that book happened in my 55 yr old lifetime, and me in my nice middle-class, Northern, white life knew very little about it. I am ashamed, but also angry - and the next person who says to me 'Slavery was hundreds of years ago - get over it [or why don't _they_ get over it]' is going to have my 2 lb. 4 oz copy of Warmth of Other Suns thumped on their thick skull.

I get it, in the warped world of conservatives learning about our history is living in the past but when certain majority folks dress up in civil war garb and celebrate the "good old days" they are just celebrating their heritage. I get it. Same way a trailer park living teen that doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" even after having it pointed out comes on and makes racist comments about Black people and gets pushback then has the nerve to call others racist? Hoo boy. Excuse me if I don't fall for revisionist history and don't believe Jesus wrote the constitution and John Wayne won the west from those evil engines. And yes Nosmo, people like you used to get to string up uppity folks like me, ask your daddy and granddaddy/uncle, we had the worst conditions and schools and held out of positions and many of us on this blog STILL are more educated and successful than your living in mom's front room in the trailer ass. ReplyDeletei read the review in the NYT and the two commentaries. without seeing the exhibit, it's difficult to know whether any of the NYT comments are valid about the actual exhibit itself.
ReplyDeletebut i think it's wrong to focus on the "intrusion" comment in this way--the reviewer actually said he thought slavery should have MORE of a role in the building, that it should have been integrated into the structure better, so that it WASN'T seen as merely as an intrustion.
that said, i've never thought critics had much reason to exist, and i don't know why the times would expend that much ink on something outside the city. the critic also pisses me off with his tortured writing style...this is just bad:
The years that followed have been marked by repair, reform and reversals; recompense, recrimination and reinterpretation.

The strength of the Republican Party over the last 50 years has been based on white anger over Civil Rights Legislation.
white people are funny. it took a white guy like Moore to put it plainly: they're all really, really afraid someone will hold them responsible for their actions as racists. so askeert, they'll make up whole ideologies and do crazy stuff to distract people from the bald truth of their history. iz fugly, yo. and they know it. i'm always amused when they run away from it. nope, sorry, bitches. it'll be true tomorrow. it'll be true 10 years from now. and it will be true when nobody remembers what the word "race" even means. all ideologies die, in time.
ReplyDeleteLove that there is that bit in Philly, so school children can visit it along with the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. They will begin to ask questions...like why isn't slavery in their textbook...why did George Washington have slaves...what made slavery go away.
ReplyDeleteUmm...my ancestors did fight for the Abolition...I have provenance...so I wonder why the lad has no such proof.
It is part of a class issue where poor whites get upset that they are blamed and held to account for the actions of plantation owners. Sort of blaming the minorities for the bankster failure.
Recall the wailing of wites when Jefferson's 'dalliances' with Sally Hemmings were confirmed by DNA? It brought up her inability to decline and other problems with aristocracy.
The poltroon who scribbled about having Irish ancestors has no clew about how much they hated their treatment at the hands of 'Mericans. In fact, there are monuments to their suffering...one is the Catholic school.

"It is part of a class issue where poor whites get upset that they are blamed and held to account for the actions of plantation owners"
ReplyDeleteGet over it.
Up until 1964, poor whites had rights that educated blacks didn't have.
It was perfectly legal to discriminate against blacks in just about every sphere of American life prior to 1964.
How could whites not have benefited from that system?

ReplyDeleteI get it, in the warped world of conservatives learning about our history is living in the past but when certain majority folks dress up in civil war garb and celebrate the "good old days" they are just celebrating their heritage. This is the sad state of amerikkka folks. As far as the negroes that say get over it should look and learn from the words of sisters Hathor and Lola. And yes Nosmo, people like you used to get to string up uppity folks like me, ask your daddy and granddaddy/uncle, we had the worst conditions and schools and held out of positions and many of us on this blog STILL are more educated and successful than your living in mom's front room in the trailer ass. Hell, I make more than your entire trailer park. Notice the correct use of YOUR. Get your GED and you might just make it in life. Another hint, stop talking about shit you don't understand.
Hey Never will be Captain, you aint talkin to one of your ole homeys. No one is impressed with a glorified racist taxi driver. As I said. I hire, fire and decide careers for folks like you. Stay cocky. We like to keep your confidence level high so you can continue to pull the levers and press the buttons over and over and over again.
Now back to your edumacation. I am sure you know the proper use of YOUR you'r and yall. Good to see you retained something from your public school tax funded education. Now the next thing to work on is cogent thinking and ensuring clarity and cohesiveness in your rants. In example, what in the hell does this following sentence mean and who wrote this? Y'all's dog? Or is that your IQ level? The Racist canine wannabe Captain. Well they said this country is going to the dogs, you certainly are proof of that. We have certainly dumbed down if someone like you can even have the nerve to publicly state he is intelligent, while relying on racist rants to cover his ass and living against all reality.
"and many of us on this blog STILL are more educated and successful than your living in mom's front room in the trailer ass".
So you are more educated then a living ass in someones moms front room trailer? I bet you are. Really I believe you, I do. What are you a living hemorrhoid?
Get a clue racist. Not everyone White hates you because you are Black. It is probably because you are just a total asshole and everyone hates irregardless of your excuse, your race.
See Y'all Later. YOUR welcome little man. Now find some more racism to hide behind. For you obviously cant handle being a man without some type of excuse.

Maybe this isn't so complicated.

Of what?
What have black people bartered from white folks using slavery as a guilt-bait????
Watch the dummy say Affirmative Action which was at it's height 25 years ago a very modest tool used to level the playing field which always has and still is tilted in favor of white men.
Liberals were so excited to elect our Historic First Black President, it didn't bother them that Obama had no other qualifications. But Detroit, our most liberal city, is well out in front of the nation as a whole. The last 5 mayors in row have been black, starting with Coleman Young in 1974 and continuing through Dennis Archer, Kwame Kilpatrick, and Kenneth Cockrel Jr. to the current retired basketball player Dave Bing. The odds of the streak continuing look pretty good. Here's how it's been working out:

So Ass-non, if Detroit's is a white conservative how will the city's fortunes change?
ReplyDeleteAnd could you explain to me how conservatism has improved the nation's fortunes given that they controlled all three branches of the federal government from 2001 through 2007.
I'm all ears.
Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteEd Rothstein is my neighbor here in Brooklyn. One of his kids went to Montessori School with one of my kids. Nice guy.
What's so troubling about his article? Seems his summation is the major irritant.
He writes:
So what is learned? Not what makes this site special, but what makes it ordinary; not the foundations of what led to the overcoming of slavery, but a sense of its enduring presence.
Is that clear enough for you? He says that nothing at the site shows why a democracy operating under the extraordinary Constitution that is the basis for our laws had what it took to end slavery.
He says it's the same old, same old. Blacks living under the eternal black cloud of the past. He's saying you really do not want move beyond slavery and that it suits the needs of black culture to pretend America is still a land that permits slavery.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteHow's that trial of the Phila delphia news reporter who used the "N" word going?
Imagine! No. No need to imagine. It's true.
A white guy gets prosecuted for using one of the most popular words in the black lexicon. How does this happen?
So Slappy,

ReplyDeleteThe Philly memorial means nothing to me personally. I'm not concerned with its message beyond assessing it on an objective basis. Inasmuch as I have no idea when I will see Philly again, there's a fair chance I'll never visit this site. But it's okay with me if it's there.
Sorry to tell you, but in the minds of most whites, slavery is part of the past. It's also obvious that it pains you and so many other blacks when you realize that whites have not forgotten slavery or even minimize it, but whites do see it as part of the past and no one has any interest in going back to the past.
On the other hand, blacks seem to show an obsession with slavery, and the obsession seems so overwhelming as to prevent today's blacks from believing that slavery is, in fact, past. One Hundred and Forty Five years past.
And the sad irony is the fact that Africa is a horrible mess. Do blacks leave America to return to their tribal roots? No. Seems wildly incosnsistent.
On that same basis, I don't care whether you want to see a Holocause exhibit or not. It's probably better for you if you don't. A Holocaust exhibit is too likely to remind you that Jews have overcome the slaughter of one-third of the world's Jewish population in 65 years.
As for someone calling me a stinking kike in the workplace, well, there are a lot of reasons that would never happen. But it did happen to me on a street in Morocco where I was surrounded by several muslims who had some mischief in mind. But even a small gang of muslims will back down when challenged.

Produce one example of the black obsession with slavery. It is certainly no more apparent than white conservatives obsession with the Confederacy or Jews obsession with the Holocaust.
"And the sad irony is the fact that Africa is a horrible mess. Do blacks leave America to return to their tribal roots? No. Seems wildly incosnsistent."
Certainly not after it was invaded and raped by white colonialists for the last 500 years.

Why do you say such stupid things?

No_Slappz, one our resident bigots has returned. Here's a few hints for you. Yes, we're all aware of the anti-Semitic rhetoric out of the Middle East. But no American leader would ever take such an opinion and not expected to be ran out of time with his tail between his legs.
Last time I checked, Jesse Jackson is still eating crow after his 'Himey Town' comment.
However, the actual fact that America used Black people as cattle for 200+ years to build its economy. And after the abolition of Slavery, African Americans were treated like second class citizens until less than 35 years ago. But, because it makes folks like you and Mr. Rothstein queasy, we should never mention it.
The success of the Jewish community has been its absorption into 'whiteness' something Black people aren't going to achieve anytime soon. And, when you describe Black 'community', there are actually not one, but 4 distinct communal identities or strata amongst Black people. So though I empathize with the life of cousin Ray-Ray on the corner, my life in no way reflects that.

ReplyDeleteGood post.
And what slappy will never willingly acknowledge is that Jews gleefully participated in the slave trade, slavery in America and the economic exploitation of the black community, particularly in the Northern urban centers.
uptownstever,
ReplyDeleteYour ignorance about the state of Israel is a extensive as it is about most of subjects tied to race.
The state of Israel was proposed long before Nazi Germany existed; the plan for Israel's birth was laid down in the Balfour Agreement in the early 1920s.
Israel was NOT the outcome of the Holocaust, though nitwits like you always make the claim.
YOu wrote:

As I said, Jews have NEVER used the Holocaust as an excuse for problems within the Jewish world. Perhaps those who survived the camps were irretrievably harmed. But there are very few Jews in the world today who lived through it and are still alive.
But today's blacks, even if they were born outside the US, too often pretend their problems and misfortunes are a result of something that ended 145 years ago.

ReplyDeleteOh, look who read Eugene Robinson's new book.
Now black people are allowed to be indviduals? (At least 4 different ones!). This is going to make Michelle Obama pretty mad. I hope they forget their individuality come election time and 98% of them keep voting like a herd of "cattle".
uptownsteve,
ReplyDeleteI really do not care who participated in the slave trade over the history of humanity. As we also know, slavery was popular in Africa, where it was handled entirely by blacks. Moreover, slavery is still with us today -- wherever Islam is running the show.
In islamic nations, women are slaves -- tdoay, right now. That includes a growing number of African countries.
Meanwhile, even though Italians were the central figures in organized crime in America over the last 100 years, it has never occurred to me to think that every Italian, or the descendants of Italians are mobsters.
Then there is the fact that, like or not, the slave trade was legal. Therefore, having a role in the business was not a criminal offense.
"Well, how long do you estimate it will be before we see the first Black led successful nation?"
ReplyDeleteBy what criteria are you defining successful?
Is Russia successful?
Japan?
"Some have been self led for a very, very long time. How is that working out?"
That's bullshit.
Most of the former European colonies in Africa had corrupt despots installed by the former colonialists who continue to rape the resources and minerals while leaving the masses of people in poverty.
50 years is not a long time and there was no Western Marshall Plan for Africa as there was for Europe after WWII.

Successful black-led nation? Populated by blacks? Or did you mean America today?
If you meant a nation of blacks led by blacks, the answer is probably never. But they should keep trying. Though it's a long shot, maybe we're in for a happy surprise.
@Hannibal, I didn't need to read it, but I skimmed through it before I got it for my girlfriend for her birthday. But, having friends and colleagues who study Black history and Pan-Africanism, Eugene Robbins book only crystallized what I learned in college.
ReplyDeleteYes, Black people can be individuals. There was a time when our interest, regardless of income or education were tightly aligned. That time has passed and our politics must adjust to address the distinct needs Black people in the project and Black folks in the suburbs. Guess what? Most of us on this board knew that.
@Uptown, excellent point. If anyone ever read Franz Fanon or other La Negritude and Pan-African writers (or hell, took a college level history class), they'd know that the West has regularly installed gangsters and madmen in Africa, as well as South America and Asia.
But, oh, wait - that would require some of these lurkers to do something other than nurse their racist ideas and actually learn something.
lacoincidental you wrote:

Your preceding statement is one of the most cold-hearted anti-black racist statements I've ever read.
It says that blacks cannot succeed on the strength of their own social and intellectual strength. It says the only way blacks can succeed is through absorption into the "white community". But then points out that absorption, due to color, is impossible.
Moreover, your statement makes the additionally ludicrously bizarre claim that Jewish success is explained by this "absorption" into the "white" world.
You are one sorry knucklehead. And, of course, your explanation is another way of saying the future for blacks can never improve, simply because blacks are black.
And you, as I recall, claim to be a graduate of Yale. Wow. As they say, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Based on the workings of your mind, you should have stuck with community college.
Most of the former European colonies in Africa had corrupt despots installed by the former colonialists who continue to rape the resources and minerals while leaving the masses of people in poverty.

SOunds like the same liberal tripe you spread about the U.S.
So, still blaming someone else. The leaders were put in charge by someone else and they followed? And 50 years isnt a long time for Blacks? Not enough time to lead? How long do you think they need
I disagree. Since ZImbabwe and South Africa have changed leadership, blacks have managed to turn former breadbasket nations that fed a large number of countries, into poverty stricken hellholes in a very, very short time. Yes, I understand, there is no one availible to teach the murderers that killing the only people who know how to farm without having the skill yourself is suicidal. Surely they can do something positive somewhere in just a piddly 50 years.
There was no marshall plan? Oh so someone didnt set up instructions on how to lead properly as well, so thats why these nations and every single black led city is failing.
When was the most recent incident of genocide in the modern world? Where was that? Where is all the poverty and mass immigration coming from? What countries? Who gets the majority of International Welfare?
So which facts dont I have right leroy? When do you think we can estimate that even one nation will be succesful?
I'll stand by while you look for another excuse or finger to point.
lacoincidental says:

Wow. You are the champion of black inferiority. Clearly you believe blacks lack the ability to organize functioning governments and productive economies.
Who are the master puppeteers are pulling the strings in African nations today?
Oh me, oh my, all those poor helpless blacks in all those African nations. All victimized by invisible forces directed by gods on Mount Olympus. Yikes.
One of the most damaging facts of Africa today is the fact that in virtually every black African nation, the median age is less than 20.
ReplyDeleteIn one or two cases, the median age is 15. In other words, entire nations populated by people who are mostly children.
It's a sure bet that as the children produce more children, the chaos and ungovernability of most African nations will increase.

@ uptown: South Africa is the economic powerhouse of sub-Saharan Africa. What's South Africa got that the rest of sub-Saharan Africa doesn't?
ReplyDeleteA sizeable white population. And a lot of Indians.
Maybe that has something to do with the existence of a "booming black middle class".
"Clearly you believe blacks lack the ability to organize functioning governments and productive economies."
ReplyDeleteNo that's what YOU are suggesting.
The World Bank reports the economy of Sub-Saharan African countries grew at rates that match global rates.[3][4] The economies of the fastest growing African nations experienced growth significantly above the global average rates. The top nations in 2007 include Mauritania with growth at 19.8%, Angola at 17.6%, Sudan at 9.6%, Mozambique at 7.9% and Malawi at 7.8%.
Look at the chaos and violence in the former Soviet bloc.
uptownsteve,
ReplyDeleteThe only aspect of South Africa that gives it an edge over the rest of the miserable continent is its white population and the businesses that were established by whites, even when those whites were part of the apartheid regime.
Because I have a relative who is, today, working as a teacher/missionary in South Africa, I can tell you things there are bleak with little prospect for improvement. The country is slipping and we all know why.
You have to wonder why no_slappz, Hanibal and these other guys are seriously vested in validating the so-called inferiority of Blacks. Denigrating Blacks, downgrading their accomplishments and declaring them to be needy, whining crybabies -- this level of devotion to those causes can get a bit mindboggling when one attempts to understand it.
ReplyDeleteWealthy men usually have no time for sitting around in their underwear trolling Black blogs, so I figure it has to be a strata ranging from the poor white trash to the ne'er do well guys who can't seem to break past that $250k/year ceiling.

I think the point of the exhibit is precisely that slavery (and by extension unequal race relations) were NOT compartmentalized in American society in the 18th and half of the 19th century. It was a social fact that permeated pretty much all of society, even in so-called "Free" states like Pennsylvania. If there had been something devoted to Martha Washington and her role as a housewife, no one would be complaining that it wasn't part of an consolidated thesis about the role of women in the period: everyone now knows that women occupied a number of different social positions and fulfilled a number of different roles. You can't separate the treatment of blacks, free and slave, OR of women during this time period from the Gestalt of society, any more than you can separate water from society. It is not a periphery, but a core part of society in that day.
ReplyDeleteJust a couple of questions for our esteemed racist troll that now calls itself skycracker.

Also @anon 1450, I know what I wrote no corrections needed.
Steve and LAC, this is almost pointless. No matter what facts you use you are still dealing with small minded racists whose only joy in life is to point out how inferior you darkies are to them. This is a common thought process that existed for centuries here in amerikkka. No matter how low and uneducated they are they at least got to feel superior to us. Thus you see their utter fear of "uppity" negroes. Sad but if that's how they get their rocks off what more can ya do? Hell I just got back from a Black nation a few weeks ago and had a great time hanging out on the beach. White supremacy is a bitch to everyone involved.

Despite a lineup featuring Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, conservative-based "Rush Radio" has yet to gain any traction with listeners in liberal Boston. The latest Arbitron PPM rankings have Clear Channel's WXKS-AM (1200) mired toward the bottom of the Beantown ratings heap, with an overall 0.7 (age 6+ AQH) in the November PPM and a cume of 81,000. The Boston Herald slices that down further, noting a mere 0.2 rating and 45th place in the 25-54 demographic. That's lower than when the AM station played Spanish music.
