His 2010-2011 budget was facing a shortfall of 6.4 million. While requesting federal funds, he continued to rail against government bailouts. As a matter of fact, he started a petition drive against them. He received monies from the Recovery Act aka the stimulus. Perry plugged his deficit. Then he took credit for balancing the state's budget. Now the big Poof needs money for the wildfires. Last week he was praying for rain. Well I say keep praying Rick.

As one who has actually worked in rescue/relief in disasters, I can tell you that a lot of it is political. Go to your local municipality and read the disaster plan and it's initial goals and tyou will probably be rather unpleasantly surprised at what is considered important and what is not.

Many merchants get very upset with "looting" because they will be unable to both claim the "damaged/lost" goods on their insurance and re sell them later. This was openly talked about by outraged merchants in New Orleans.
People are probably, yet again, discovering that there is no situation so bad that it can't be made worse by the presence of a cop.
VIP visits are good for the VIP, maybe, but are a very big distraction from and drain on any rescue/recovery efforts. If "incident manager" Joe (or Jane) is given the options of digging out and caring for victims and along comes a VIP party, it's stroke the VIP (or his staff's) egos. When the federal government designates a region as a National Disaster Site, the people who live in it are automatically eligible to receive compensation for their losses. It's that simple. It's money.

Of course Obama wants to avoid the Katrina curse, which he'll do by throwing money at the stricken areas.

And I am sure that you know how Mexicans are discriminated against by Whites but that hasn't stopped them from hating Blacks. It's the same way with the Japanese, many of whom consider themselves White. I know, because I have had to live with them for some time.
Living in the Oakland Area, I would think that you would know that. It's one thing to know that Whites like SPC are racists, but it's another thing to DENY that Japanese are not racist against Blacks because the reality is they are.

ReplyDeleteI've met some beautiful people that are Japanese-American in the Oakland Area. Ever been to that Asian bookstore in Berkeley, Mrs. Dong. She's a lovely person with a genuine smile that lights up the whole room and is very friendly. She gives me a warm welcome every time I see her. Yup, it's not one of those fake pasted on smiles that folks who are phony give you.
You ever heard of Robert Masato Aoki, I'm sure that Stillapanther remembers him. He was a beautiful person.
A couple of my neighbors are Hispanic and are really nice to me, we laugh, and talk all the time. When I was sick, they came to check on me. They don't project any racial hostility towards black people.
There is a white gay couple that lives on the corner from me and they are always extending an invitation to me to come visit. Their renovating their kitchen and love to talk to me about decoration ideas and politics.
Sweetheart, people are people, and not ALL of them hate black people or think that black people are the lowest thing on this earth. Not all people in this world have hateful views towards black people.
