Strange bedfellows.

Rick (I should be in a) Sanitarium is a former senator here in Pistolvania who got his ass kicked by Bob Casey when he tried to represent our state in Washington. Now he is running for President. Yes, this homophobic neanderthal who actually stole from the people of Pistolvania to benefit his own family actually thinks that he can become president. (As one writer said recently, he couldn't beat Sasha Obama.)

So here is the funny part: Remember I said that he was a homophobe? Well he actually kicked off his campaign by lifting some lines from a very famous homosexual who also happens to be....wait for it...wait for it...black!

"Salon reports that the day after announcing that he was setting up a presidential exploratory committee, Pennsylvania Republican Rick Santorum's website featured the slogan "Fighting to Make America America Again." That is, until a student clued him about its similarity to the title of the poem "Let America Be America Again," by Langston Hughes (the avowed leftist, black, pro-union poet who many people believe was gay).

Uh-oh. Hughes, evidently, is not the best symbol of the version of America Santorum was pitching at an "Econ-101" town meeting at New England College:

Santorum by and large stayed on message but was tripped up a bit when a student asked him if he knew that the choice of his slogan, "Fighting to make America America again," was borrowed from the "pro-union poem by the gay poet Langston Hughes."

"No I had nothing to do with that," Santorum said. "I didn't know that. And the folks who worked on that slogan for me didn't inform me that it came from that, if it in fact came from that."

The student, whose name was not immediately available, was referring to the poem "Let America Be America Again." When asked a short time later what the campaign slogan meant to him, Santorum said, "Well, I'm not too sure that's my campaign slogan, I think it's on a web site."

It was also printed on the campaign literature handed out before the speech." [Source]

Whoops.

More about the religion of peace

Muslims torch churches, set buildings on fire after Christian incumbent Goodluck Jonathan won.

    BBC…

The Red Cross says it believes many people have been killed in clashes with the police in northern areas of the country.

Homes of supporters of Mr Jonathan, a Christian from the oil-producing Niger Delta and the candidate of the governing People’s Democratic Party (PDP), were attacked in the cities of Kano and Kaduna.

The BBC’s Caroline Duffield, in the Nigerian capital Abuja, says General Buhari himself has yet to comment – but political pressure is growing on him to call for calm as well.

In a statement, Mr Jonathan said: “I have received with great sadness the news of sporadic unrest in some parts of the country which are not unconnected with last Saturday’s elections.

“I appeal to those involved to stop this unnecessary and avoidable conduct, more so at this point in time when a lot of sacrifice has been made by all the citizens of this great country in ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections.

Did Christians riot, torch or burn anything after Obama was elected?

The part where our leaders don't think playing paint the people who want fiscal responsibility as demons, that needs to change.

The part where S+P doesn't downgrade our economic viability to negative because our leaders and liberal followers just don't understand that borrowing to spend will run out and then everyone loses.

The part where men are men and women are women and metrosexual weaklings to afraid to make adult decisions are not in charge.

How is that for a start?

  8. Santorum may take a crack at the Republican primaries, but he is NOT a presidential contender, and we all know it.

Meanwhile, Obama has to run AGAINST his own record, which is great news for his as yet un-nominated opponent.

If Obama were to run against Romney today, Romney would win. Considering the course Obama has charted, his chances of losing in 2012 are very high.

Especially if Obama raises borrowing to the point that S&P issues a downgrade on Treasury securities.

That would be the kiss of death for Obama's re-election hopes.

  9. Standard & Poor’s put the U.S. government on notice that it risks losing its AAA credit rating unless policy makers agree on a plan by 2013 to reduce budget deficits and the national debt.

“If an agreement is not reached and meaningful implementation does not begin by then, this would in our view render the U.S. fiscal profile meaningfully weaker than that of peer ‘AAA’ sovereigns,” New York-based S&P said today in a report that maintained its top rating on U.S. long-term debt while lowering the outlook to “negative” for the first time.

S&P said there’s a one-in-three chance that the rating might be cut within two years and that its “baseline assumption” is that Congress and the Obama administration will come to terms on a plan to reduce record deficits.

  10. I am curious as to why S&P has any credibility whatsoever after their monumental fuck up during the derivative fiasco, those AAA ratings proved to be worthless every rating agency should have been shut down the whole thing is one big cluster fuck. Does the republican party have even one viable candidate? After that speech Obama gave last week he is a certain shoe in if he stays on message and pounds home the notion that he is through acquiescing and has finally come to play ball. I think even AB must have liked part of his message well maybe not.

It was none other than Robert Traynham. He frequently appears as a pundit on Roland Martin's show-Washington Watch. He is very conservative, very black, and also very gay.

Since he was in charge of messaging, do you suppose he coined that famous Santorum's phrase, "man on dog sex?"

No, actually I said where men are men and women are women. I didnt speak of any side, as the liberal you are the one who paints the straw argument, debates the very point you created and then wins.

Are you saying that in your mind real men and women are only on the conservative side thus you immediately jumped to the conclusion that liberals were being demonized as you see men not being real men on the liberal side?

If you see the context, my meaning was accountability, not sexual. I could care less about someones sexual preference, but I do want the real men and women of both sides to stand up and make adult decisions and not be pitiful children, doing nothing but looking to the next election and spending all efforts at trying to demonize someone else when they are chameleons, changing with the wind.

Really now FN, if your trying to say if I might be what was the nasty term Queen used? A Closet Homosexual and this is worse to you then what? Are you both homophobic? Or just playin liberal again? Real men and women don't need games or name calling or demonization to shoulder responsibility and do their job. Real men and women are grown adults that don't act like entitled, nasty vulgar outrageous children playing at adulthood when they haven't reached it yet.

So if you disagree with my point of our leaders getting fiscal accountability just say so, don't try and paint me as a less then by insinuating I might be gay, that is so...Liberal.

My sexual preference is none of your business, however if I were gay, your the only one who is "fake" by trying to make that an issue.

  34. Black News Today, from Nigeria:

Riots break out in north as Jonathan wins by landslide

REUTERS - Deadly rioting erupted across Nigeria's largely Muslim north on Monday as youths torched churches and homes in anger at President Goodluck Jonathan's election victory.

Jonathan, the first president from the oil producing Niger Delta, was declared the winner with around 57 percent of votes.

He defeated Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler from the north, who got around 31 percent.

Observers have called the poll the fairest in decades in Africa's most populous nation. But Buhari's supporters accuse the ruling party of rigging and rejected the results.

The results show how polarised the country is, with Buhari sweeping the north and Jonathan winning the largely Christian south. Jonathan had nearly 23 million votes to just over 12 million for Buhari.

The Nigerian Red Cross said churches and homes had been burned in rioting across the north and many people had been killed, but it was impossible to give a toll for now.

"In Kaduna we have seen dead bodies lying by the road," Red Cross official Umar Mairiga told Reuters. "Two thousand people have been displaced at one military camp alone."

Authorities in the northern state of Kaduna imposed a 24-hour curfew after protesters set fire to the residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo in the town of Zaria and forced their way into the central prison, releasing inmates.

The body of a small boy shot in the chest by a stray bullet was brought to a police station.

"They have destroyed our cars and our houses. I had to run for my life and I am now in my neighbour's house," said Dora Ogbebor, a resident of Zaria whose origins are in the south.

Plumes of smoke rose into the air in parts of Kaduna as protesters set fire to barricades of tyres. Security forces fired in the air and used teargas to disperse groups of youths shouting "We want Buhari, we want Buhari".

Jonathan appealed to all politicians to end violence.

"No one's political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian," he said in a statement.

Buhari was yet to make any public statement on the violence despite appeals by foreign embassies that he call for calm.

Nigeria should be the Norway of Africa -- an advanced society paying most of its bills with revenue from oil exports. Instead, Nigeria is a nightmare.

...maybe most of your trolls are paid; it's hard to tell and you're a pretty famous black blogger, so it wouldn't surprise me to learn most of them get a dollar a comment...

Talk about utter ignorance. "Trolls" getting paid to post comments on blogs? That's an Urban Myth.

but i've been to Europe, and i've studied how life and politics are in other, more civilized countries.

Yeah. Even though the Nazis once dominated, Europe is more "civilized." I guess that Nazi moment was just a little boo-boo.

However, European and Scandinavian nations are more civilized in many ways. Why? Because they limit immigration, citizenship is hard to get, the overall black population is low, and those nations put some effort into hiding their racial and ethnic problems.

Germany has a significant problem with Turks, who are muslims and many of them speak no German, which is a problem in a nation with a declared national language.

your trolls are so convinced of their superiority. but they obviously have no idea what life can be like, free from the celebration of stupidity and willful ignorance.

You obviously know absolutely nothing about other nations except for their superficial travel-brochure profiles. They are different from the US, but not in the ways you believe.

wake up, trolls. you'll never be Donald Trump, you'll never get invited to the white house, and you'll never have a million dollars.

If you believe Trump is what he claims to be, then you've shown how silly you are. He is a loudmouth who will raise some important questions during the coming campaign. But he is not a future president, nor is he a future presidential candidate.

As for an invitation to the White House, well, it's probably not on anyone's list of Lifetime Goals. Regarding the million dollars, far more people have a million than you imagine. People with a prension from 30 years of public service and lifetime healthcare benefits have something worth more than a million.

you're being used, and it's particularly pathetic that you can't perceive that, given how obvious it is.

Typical response of someone who cannot read a financial statement or understand a budget.

black people are not the enemy; rich people are.

Oh. Are rich black athletes and entertainers the enemy? Or do they get a special exemption?

many of the world's richest people, the ones destroying our common heritage and future? not what you and your trailer park friends would recognize as "white." or "christian."

Really? If they're not Christian, what are they? Jews or muslims? Seems like you're defaulting to the standard canard of "blaming the Jews."

Your curiosity reveals how little you know about the business of credit rating.

First, the failure of S&P to spot troubles in the Mortgage Backed Securities segment boils down to having too few employees to actually analyze the huge flow of MBS product.

When it comes to issuing credit ratings to countries, there's no problem. In fact, issuing credit ratings for countries is relatively easy.

Meanwhile, S&P, Moodys and Fitch have been rating bonds for a long time. The MBS segment is only a fraction of the overall ratings business. You never hear about the all the other ratings because they have proven reasonably accurate for decades. Not perfect, but close enough to be considered reliable.

GOP insiders embrace Trump's presidential bid

    By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press
    57 mins ago

WASHINGTON – Out with Sarah. In with The Donald.
President Barack Obama has launched his re-election bid in a low-key manner, but the Republican Party's search for a challenger seems stranger by the day.
GOP celebrities like Sarah Palin aren't getting much buzz. Mainstream candidates like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty aren't getting much traction. It's people once considered highly unlikely to compete seriously for the party's nomination who are creating big stirs in early voting states, a reflection of an unformed and uncertain GOP presidential field.
GOP activists in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina appear deeply intrigued by, and open to, a run by Donald Trump, the publicity-loving business tycoon and host of NBC's "The Apprentice," even as he perpetuates falsehoods about Obama's citizenship and questions the legitimacy of his presidency.
"I hear more and more people talking about Donald Trump," said Glenn McCall, Republican Party chairman in South Carolina's York County. "He's got people fired up."
These Republican officials and activists stopped short of saying they see Trump as the eventual nominee. But they said their party is hungry for forceful, colorful figures to attack Obama and other Democrats on health care, spending and other issues.
In Iowa at least, there's also widespread talk about two social conservatives: Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who would be the first president elected directly from the House since James Garfield, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who lost his 2006 re-election bid by a landslide. Even Herman Cain, the little-known, wealthy former pizza chain executive, gets mentioned by Republican voters who will have the first crack at winnowing the GOP field.
While these people certainly have talents, the party's establishment does not see them as the likeliest contenders to defeat Obama. Karl Rove, architect of George W. Bush's two presidential wins, calls Trump "a joke candidate."

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous8:26 AM

Republicans traditionally pick party veterans who wait their turn and earn their nominations after years spent as governors, senators or vice presidents. But this field lacks a front-runner like Bob Dole in 1996 or George W. Bush in 2000. There's a political vacuum in the GOP, insiders say, and it's being filled by an unusually large and diverse number of White House hopefuls.
"It's probably the most wide open field in 50 years," said Stephen Scheffler, a Republican National Committee member and head of the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition. "I'm not sure anyone has caught fire yet."
South Carolina Republican Party chairwoman Karen Floyd said, "It's any candidate's ballgame right now." Kim Lehman, another RNC member from Iowa, said voters haven't locked in on any one person. "Everyone is taking their time and seeing who's who, and what's what," she said.
Palin's apparent fade and Trump's rise are arguably the most surprising events in recent weeks, as more establishment-oriented contenders, including former governors Romney of Massachusetts and Pawlenty of Minnesota, took formal steps toward full-fledged candidacies.
A CNN nationwide poll of adult Republicans showed Trump tied for the presidential lead with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, at 19 percent each. Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, was third at 12 percent.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous8:27 AM

A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, conducted before Trump's latest TV blitz, showed Huckabee and Trump tied for second, at 17 percent each. Romney led with 22 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich had 11 percent, and Palin 10 percent.
This early in the race, polls measure name recognition more than anything else. That may help explain strong showings by Trump and Huckabee.
Huckabee won the 2008 Iowa caucus and hosts a TV show, but has done little to signal he will run again. Trump, meanwhile, is turning heads in early voting states.
"He is causing conversations," said Trudy Caviness, the GOP chairwoman in Iowa's Wapello County.
McCall said Trump "is saying on the national stage what other people won't talk about."
That includes holding forth on trade, China and oil dependency. But Trump's biggest buzz stems from his embrace of the claim that Obama wasn't born in the United States, and therefore is constitutionally barred from being president.
Documents, including Obama's birth certificate, show he was born in Hawaii in 1961.
Several Republican activists said they don't care much about Obama's birthplace, but they're tired of waiting for the more establishment-backed challengers to challenge the president often and fiercely. For some, Trump fills that void.
For his part, Trump declined Tuesday to back away from the questions he has raised about Obama's citizenship, saying in an interview broadcast on NBC's "Today" show that it's a legitimate subject.
Trump also said he opposes increasing the nation's debt limit, even though experts have said that could cause the government to default on its debts. "I wouldn't raise it," he said. "You're going to have to make a (political) deal someplace. You might as well do it right now. I'd do it right now. I'd stop it right now."
Trump also accused Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, of being "too far out in front" on the deficit reduction issue, saying that Ryan's plan to curb mounting deficits would "tinker too much" with Medicare and other senior citizen programs. In New Hampshire, Republican activist Phyllis Woods of Dover said she was surprised by the commotion Trump is causing. "Whether Donald Trump is going to be taken as a serious candidate here is an open question," she said. What is certain, she said, is that "we're going to have a huge field."
Woods said she detects "a growing undercurrent of support" for Bachmann, a comment echoed by several Iowa and South Carolina activists. "She is a fresh face and a fresh voice," Woods said.
Bachmann seems to have eclipsed Palin as the most discussed, if sometimes gaffe-prone, provocateur among tea party conservatives.
Democratic strategists and Obama supporters watch these developments with bewilderment, and a vague sense that they won't last. They say they can't predict who will be the nominee, but more traditional candidates such as Romney, Pawlenty or Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour seem more plausible than, say, Trump. Political insiders would not be stunned if Bachmann won the caucus in her native Iowa, and Gingrich could do well in places, including South Carolina.

    Field, I specifically said

"My sexual preference is none of your business, however if I were gay, you’re the only one who is "fake" by trying to make that an issue".

And there you go again ignoring everything else and trying to make my sexuality The issue.

What you conveniently left out of your post about a white conservative using a quote from a black, male, gay poet and how "horrible" that action is, was the poet was also a renowned communist.

Why is it that some liberals cannot defend or discuss their own logic and must always look to cloud the issue with attempts to claim the other person is illogical cause they might be something really bad like.... gay?

So with your saying this I am not sure what you consider bad and what you are trying to liberal me with (attack). Do you not like and consider bad and negative trait's with someone being; Black?, Black and Gay? Black, Gay and Male? Black, Gay, Male and a Poet? Or Black, Gay, Male, a Poet and a Communist?

This is how Obama got elected.Democrats count on "ignorance" and "control" to win elections.

    CNS News:

When the Treasury opened for business on Friday, April 15, according to the Treasury’s Bureau of the Public Debt, the national debt stood at $14.27 trillion ($14,270,792,119,184.89). By the close of business Friday, the debt had climbed to $14.31 trillion ($14,305,336,580,992.11), an increase of $34.54 billion ($34,544,461,807.22).

Friday’s $34.54-billion jump in the national debt almost equaled the $38.5 billion the Republican House leadership said would be cut from spending for the remainder of this fiscal year by the continuing resolution that the Congress passed on Thursday and President Obama signed Friday.

The federal government is now perilously close to hitting its legal limit on debt.

Santorum is NOT a presidential Contender. He's just one of a growing cast throwing their hats into the ring. He will be gone very early in the primaries IF he lasts that long.

Second, you seem deeply confused about Trump and idea of popularity. He's gone down this road of teasing America that he will run for president at least twice before.

Now he's teasing the country for the third time. He won't run for a few reasons.

First, he won't submit to the financial disclosures required of presidential candidates. If he were to comply, his true net worth, among many other matters, would leak out.

Second, his casino businesses have all filed for bankruptcy, and he lost the Plaza Hotel, his Trump Airline Shuttle and his yacht to bankruptcy proceedings. The bankruptcies, however, hurt his creditors more than himself.

Thus, he's shown his utter contempt for those whose money he borrows to finance his projects. His contempt for creditors is a bad sign for a potential president, a person who controls the use of more credit than anyone on ther planet. For this Donald is not the man.

Meanwhile, Trump NEVER pays his own way. He ALWAYS uses Other People's Money. That's why he will NEVER finance his own presidential run. He would NEVER use his own money to place a bet that he could win the presidency. Even if he were elected president, he would have no way to recoup the cost of a winning campaign. Ever. And, as he has made painfully clear, he thinks his wealth is more important than anything else.

Third, even though some of his ideas are emotionally appealing -- like seizing oil fields in the middle east, as he suggested to George Stephanopoulis -- they won't fly. Moreover, when he says these things, he shows he knows nothing about the global oil market.

Of course he can call for more drilling in the US. A president can make it happen, and I suppose President Trump would. But so would President Romney.

Trump is famous for his book "The Art of the Deal". But that's the wrong title. It should be, "The Art of Bankruptcy."

Does the US need a president who believes in stiffing his creditors? When countries stiff their creditors, huge problems follow.

Eddie was busted on “The Boulevard” in Los Angeles, after picking up a transvestite prostitute, according to news sources. This comes as no surprise to gay America, where whispers about Eddie’s closeted homosexuality are very old news.

No secure heterosexual would ever spew the shockingly toxic venom that is forever captured on film in “Eddie Murphy: Raw”; a film that is equally toxic regarding African women. Many gay men, especially closeted ones, loathe women. They share the misogyny of many heterosexual men. This sexist hatred was recently evidenced to me in reactions to my column on Armstrong.

You got a lot of balls talking $hit when the leading POTUS candidates from your party are Donald Trump and Sarah Palin.

Neither Trump nor Palin will be on the ballot. As I've said, in 2007-08 it was the accepted wisdom that Hillary Clinton had the Democratic nomination locked up and everyone else was wasting their time. But...

    One more question:

What good did Bush do for you or America?

Bonehead that you are, you fail to grasp the obvious fact that President Gore would have faced the same 9/11 and would have responded in ways similar to Bush.

However, where Bush and Gore would have differed is on the economy. Gore would have pushed the home-ownership mortgage fiasco to even greater heights, because putting as much money as possible in the hands of anyone who asks is the core of the Democratic identity.

Thus, even though Bush made mistakes, you can be sure that Gore would have made the same mistakes on a grander scale.

Inasmuch as I am sure you doubt what I've stated, confirmation is visible by looking at the mess created by the Obama administration.

If fighting in the middle east is wrong -- as Obama said it was -- why has he committed to more fighting in Afghanistan while quietly acknowledging the US may be in Iraq like it's in Korea, for decades to come?

If Obama believes Bush was wrong about loose lending standards, why are state-backed lenders offering mortgages -- today -- with downpayments of only 3%?

If Obama believes companies should stop moving operations to other countries, why does he support the effort to drive the energy industry out of America?

With unions still holding power in a few industries, it's tough to manufacture a lot of goods here. But oil and gas reserves are where you find them. And we've got a lot here, which laws prevent us from exploiting. How stupid can we be? Obama knows. He's that stupid.

Meanwhile, Gore and his Save the Earth nonsense, once said he wanted to cause the extinction of the internal-combustion engine, which is another way of saying he wanted to kill the energy industry. Nice. Thus, we know what Gore would have wanted to do as president. Luckily, we got Bush instead. In some ways Bush was the lesser of two evils, but much less evil than either Gore or Kerry.

Wow. Imagine President Kerry and Vice President John Edwards! Edwards and his love child and his dead wife and now the likelihood of Edwards going to jail for his mountain of financial lies told during his campaigning. Seems that's your style, dummy.

When homosexuals choose to live in closets, that is suicidal discretion. When they choose to woo one heterosexual while they romance multiple homosexuals on the side, that is deadly deception. Discretion is prerogative. Deception is deceit.

"DL Brothaz" are the flavors of the month. I loathe this new and twisted "DL/Down Low" phenomenon. It promotes deception. It plays down to the hateful myths of homosexuals as sneaky, debased, shameful, and ashamed. It seems to promote closets as weapons rather than sanctuaries.

As an afrocentric, womanist, lesbian in a world that hates Africans, feminists, homosexuals and women, my life is a complex maze of terror. I am too Black for the gays, and too gay for the blacks. These "DL Brothaz" do nothing more than lend credence to African gaybashers' slander. The "DL Brothaz" justify those who view all homosexuals as enemies and predators, while seeking to alienate us from their communities and churches.

There is absolutely nothing honorable about lying to women. There is nothing courageous or admirable about sleeping with one woman to appear bisexual, while you truly enjoy three male mistresses. DL brothers disgrace homosexuals and bisexuals as they betray heterosexuals.

These peculiar brothers dare not refer to themselves as "gay/homosexual". They embrace senseless and erroneous semantics. For the record, men who engage in sex with other men, and enjoy it as much as (or more than) they enjoy sex with women are bisexual.

When did sex become so completely loveless? When did players, pimps, and gold diggers become revered role models ? When did murder become an actual alternative to paying child support?...

In a classic essay entitled, “I Am Your Sister: Black Women Organizing Across Sexualities” [Burst of Light. 1988. Firebrand Books: Ithaca, NY], renown scholar, poet, and author Audre Lorde wrote:

“When I say I am a Black Lesbian, I mean I am a woman whose primary focus of loving, physical as well as emotional, is directed to women. It does not mean I hate men. Far from it. The harshest attacks I have ever heard against Black men come from those women who are emotionally bound to them and cannot free themselves from a subservient and silent position. I would never presume to speak about Black men the way I have heard some of my straight sisters talk about the men they are attracted to. And of course that concerns me, because it reflects a situation of noncommunication in the heterosexual community that is far more truly threatening than the existence of Black Lesbians.”

Were Audre alive today, she would probably elaborate upon this reflection, extensively. She might include her observations of paternity tests on TV talk shows, the increase in date rapes, and the usage of designer drugs that enable those rapes. She might elaborate upon the fact that such hatred is now dually expressed, irrespective of gender. On that note, she might reflect upon the misogyny that blares in music lyrics penned by men, or the lewd sexism that glares from pornographic music videos directed by men etc....

Clearly, gender wars are bloodier than ever. There is a hatred between heterosexual men and women that is tangible in every arena. The intensity of such hatred was epitomized by 26 year old Rae Caruth’s murder of a pregnant 24 year old acquaintance, Cherica Adams. Cherica is most accurately referred to as his expectant “baby mama”. This unique hatred has spawned its own vocabulary. Baby mama is a common noun used to describe an emotionally detached incubator that is unloved and uncommitted. Baby daddy describes a biological sperm donor that is rarely a father. It is profound that both terms seem to be deliberately incorrect grammatically. They imply no formal possession. Even a mere apostrophe s is forbidden as an implicit suggestion of any iota of ownership or attachment

they were at the heart and soul of the mortgage debacle

Essentially ONE department at S&P was responsible.

if they practiced due diligence they would never have slapped AAA ratings on garbage

Inasmuch as you have got no idea what an S&P analyst does or how credit analysis is performed (yes, I've been a credit analyst and have been to S&P headquarters many times) you cannot understand why S&P bungled this part of its business. But you also know nothing about credit investing, in general, which involves plenty of analysis conducted by people at the firms buying the Mortgage-Backed Securities. They too fell down on the job.

Just so you know, S&P, Moodys and Fitch have a special status. They are known as Nationally Recognized Statistical Ratings Organizations.

The US government conferred this special status on the three agencies. Therefore, a rating from S&P, Moodys or Fitch came with a government stamp of approval. They have had this status for decades.

Hence, once again, the government shot the economy in the foot. In the world of credit analysis, there are lots of private credit-analysis firms.

In short, they compare S&P, Moodys and Fitch ratings with their own in-house analysis. When there are significant differences, the private firms start buying or selling the bonds that appear to carry inaccurate ratings.

The Junk Bond investment business depends on seeing these differences and investing to take advantage of them.

The same is true for Sovereign Debt -- country bonds.

Not for this Skeptic. Pretending that Gore would have been as bad, or worse, is asking us to beleeverate Gore is as stoopid as bush. Ummm....no. Although I have policy differences with Gore...I never felt superior to him...but I always did to bush...who never earned anything in his life.
Unlike wingnuts and Goobers...who love to fantasize they too could be QB for the pro team...I have no such illusions there. But for politics and business...bush was only around because Daddy had friends who owed him or the smart money was on having bush for leverage with Daddy or Daddy Friends.
We could detail the vast gulf between the bushmoles and competent appointees, the packing of government by Norquist devotees, or the bushMess and bushWars...but we won't. We can simply point out that Gore is not bush...and pretenderating he is...shows the fallacious nature of the 'logic' attempting this.

It is one of the most painful secrets that women share. The cultural ills of poverty, abandonment, single motherhood, and polygamy intensify this pain for African women. In the film "Waiting to Exhale", when Loretta Devine's character candidly shared her codependent attachment to her son, because he was "the only man" in her life, so many sisters were moved to shed familiar tears.

I believe that millions of young men are absolutely ruined by their coddling and doting mothers, as much as or more than they are ruined by their toxic/absentee fathers. As an African-American, I know black moms best. Yet, I also know that this tendency to spoil sons is an epidemic that crosses all boundaries of race and class.

Perhaps not. And if not, then Saddam Hussein would be around today to commit more mischief.

It's my view that by invading Iraq, Bush planted the idea of overthrowing dictators in the minds of a lot of muslims suffering under the bootheels of despots. Muslims saw Saddam's military collapse in three weeks.

This is the same military that fought Iran for EIGHT YEARS. That should give you an idea of the military incompetence prevailing in Iran and Iraq.

There was no connection between Iraq and 9/11

The idea was to spread democracy in the middle east, starting in Iraq, and the recent revolutions through the entire region as well as North Africa is proof that Bush's plan worked, and it worked beyond everyone's wildest expectations. But Obama is doing his best to keep the dictators from falling. He's such a muslim.

except the lie concocted by the Bushies to enrich their buddies at Bechtel and Halliburton.

Being a financial illiterate is the reason you believe this idiocy. Dummies always believe there's more money in war than in prosperity.

The big money for companies like Halliburton and Bechtel comes from working in stable, prospering nations that are building their economies, putting power stations, railroad, highways, communications systems and everything else the goes with democratic capitalist economies. Not war zones where you have to pay truck drivers a small fortune to move goods around town.

And Gore would have really had to work overtime to fuck the economy up more than Bush did.

Nonsense. Listening to Barney Frank is all it would have taken. Barney wanted Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to loosen credit standards to the point of not having any standards, and that's what Gore would have done. He would have stood by doing nothing while Frank and his fellow financial nitwits made it easier and easier for deadbeats to borrow money.

Funny the article you posted saying "the economy is improving" says, "that a survey of "hopeful" economists, while noting that rising unemployment was reported for the fifth quarter in a row are "hoping" the economy improves.

Catch those key buzzwords in the article? A survey, Hopeful, Rising Unemployment 5th consecutive quarter?

So with reading comprehension this translates into.

An Opinion poll of economists really hope things are getting better even though 5 straight quarters of unemployment defy that logic.

  105. Black News Today:

U.S. Reportedly Plans to Unload GM Stake

    By Joseph Woelfel 04/19/11

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government plans to sell a significant part of its remaining stake in General Motors (GM) this summer despite the disappointing performance of the stock, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

A sale within the next several months likely would mean U.S. taxpayers will take a loss on their $50 billion rescue of the automaker in 2009.

The U.S. Treasury would need to sell its remaining stake of about 500 million shares at $53 each to break even.

The stock closed Monday at $29.97, a new low since its initial public offering of $33 a share in November.

"Planning for the sale of our remaining GM stock is still at an early stage, and the IPO lock-up does not expire until late May," a Treasury spokesperson said.

"At that point, we will consider all of our options, based on our twin goals of protecting taxpayers' interests and exiting as soon as practicable."

At Monday's price, taxpayers would lose more than $11 billion on the rescue if the government sold the rest of its stake now.

The U.S. government is willing to take the loss because the Obama administration wants to sever its last ties to the automaker, the people familiar with the matter said.

  109. GM has had four CEOs in the last two years and two or three CFOs. In other words, plenty of problems remain.

Unfortunately, those problems are severe enough that GM will continue to suffer and in a year or so it might head into Chapter 22filing, the second round of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

At the same time, Detroit will sink further, showing that a black-run city is a city that can kill opportunity.

  116. more on how BLACK AFRICANS invented all language and ALL humans!!!

Dr. Atkinson’s finding fits with other evidence about the origins of language. The Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert belong to one of the earliest branches of the genetic tree based on human mitochondrial DNA. Their languages belong to a family known as Khoisan and include many click sounds, which seem to be a very ancient feature of language. And they live in southern Africa, which Dr. Atkinson’s calculations point to as the origin of language. But whether Khoisan is closest to some ancestral form of language “is not something my method can speak to,” Dr. Atkinson said.

His study was prompted by a recent finding that the number of phonemes in a language increases with the number of people who speak it. This gave him the idea that phoneme diversity would increase as a population grew, but would fall again when a small group split off and migrated away from the parent group.

Such a continual budding process, which is the way the first modern humans expanded around the world, is known to produce what biologists call a serial founder effect. Each time a smaller group moves away, there is a reduction in its genetic diversity. The reduction in phonemic diversity over increasing distances from Africa, as seen by Dr. Atkinson, parallels the reduction in genetic diversity already recorded by biologists.

  119. dumbanddumbersteve, you wrote:

So you do support universal healthcare. Romney did.

Romeny attempted the experiment and from that experiment in Massachusetts, we - and he -- know it doesn't work. So NO, I do not support any universal healthcare program that has been presented. Something workable may yet arrive, but it has not, so far.

Maybe the same sort of mischief he committed when he was a US ally and Rummy offered to build him a pipeline.

That's Rumsfeld. And so what? The US has always believed that putting money in the hands of despots is one way to make life a little better for the people suffering under their rule.

Meanwhile, since the entire world burns oil and gas, a pipeline across Iraq and/or Afghanistan is good news for the entire world. However, because muslims are the incompetent fools that they are, they are incapable of building a pipeline that would bring loads of dollars to Iraq.

Being a dummy, you probably do not wonder why the muslims never build their own pipelines, buildings or anything else that's complex.

You really don't know where you stand, do you?

The problem with this is the fact that many of these despots like Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah and Egypt's Mubarek were US puppets so that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it?

It's only confusing to you. We've been buying them off for decades. The thinking boils down to the notion that if we throw money their way, the world will suffer fewer disruptions. Mubarak kept things relatively peaceful in his part of the world. That was worth something. Now that he's gone, we will see the Muslim Brotherhood get into more mischief there. But that's okay.

The world benefits from Saudi oil. And frankly, the US does not care too much about the Saudi people, as long as the oil flows. Meanwhile, as far as we know, the Saudi government is not directly funding the bad guys. There is indirect support, but even muslims in the US give indirect support to Islamic terrorists.

Slappy, all your twisting and thrashing will not hide the fact that companies like Bechtel and Halliburton have made war profiteering an artform.

As I said, dummy, the big money comes when there is peace, which is followed by prosperity.

Only dummies believe that high margins on temporary activities that account for only a small part of an overall business drive people to war.

Halliburton made some money for a while in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, if you were able to read financial statements, you might learn that "war profiteering" is temporary and meaningless in the long term.

As peace and prosperity spread in Iraq, there will be far more lucrative opportunities for companies to build lots of big projects -- financed by the money from oil that muslims are unable to pump for themselves.

  128. UTS: "So what is the cause of the rebound and why didn't it work under the conservative administration?"

The economy under Bush did very well, rebounding from the Clinton recession/tech bubble collapse and weathering the huge shock of 911. Things were very good in the middle of the decade. After the dems took congress in 2007, Bush's weakness on spending coupled with the idiocy of the democrat congress created economic conditions that could not weather $150 barrel oil and the Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae collapse.

This crisis should have been confined to those who gambled and lost, and the investors who backed them. Instead the pain was spread to all of us. Bush shares the blame for that. The rest of the economy had been fairly healthy What should have been largely over in a year has dragged on into it's third. The delayed recovery is on Obama.

Obama's policies have been anti-growth and anti-job creation; precisely the opposite of what was needed. He has subisdized his backers (Wall Street and the unions), imposed huge new costs on businesses, sucked up private capital to pay for a unprecedented expansion of government expenditures, increased our debt to unsustainable levels, and created future liabilties that are absolutely certain to crash the economy. The rest of the world is watching with amazement as the country is driven towards a cliff with Obama's foot stamping on the gas pedal.

VALPARAISO | Prosecutors opted Monday to exercise their right to charge a 16-year-old Valparaiso girl as an adult on accusations of handcuffing, confining for hours and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy last week.

April Kuchta, of the 300 block of Roseland Terrace, was charged with felony counts of criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement, intimidation and sexual battery, as well as a misdemeanor battery charge.

The seriousness of the first two offenses provide the option for adult charges without the more typical waiver process, said Deputy Prosecutor Tim Haraminac.

Kuchta was transferred Monday from juvenile detention to the Porter County Jail.

The Times policy is to withhold the names of criminal suspects younger than 18, unless waived to adult court.

A 14-year-old girl, who also was charged with the offense, admitted in juvenile court Monday to battery and confinement charges, as well as to charges from earlier unrelated incidents.

The girl, who wept during her hearing, told the court she used a fake knife and denied stabbing the boy. A sentencing hearing was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 9.

The charging information, which reveals far more details than were released last week by police, accuses Kuchta of luring the boy, who has special needs, to her house via text messages to talk between 8 and 9 p.m. April 9. The boy then reportedly was led at knifepoint to the kitchen where he was handcuffed behind his back and poked with the knife.

Kuchta is accused of recording some of the incident with her cell phone while forcing the boy to make humiliating statements. She also is accused of sexually assaulting him and pleading with him for sex.

The boy allegedly was left in handcuffs for two hours covered completely with a blanket, during which time the younger girl is accused of placing tissue in his mouth and taping it shut. The girls are accused of inviting others over to witness the confinement.

An unknown male reportedly freed the boy at one point. He allegedly was recaptured at knifepoint and placed back in handcuffs by Kuchta, only to be freed again by an unknown person and bitten on the arm by Kuchta during a struggle for the knife.

So very true. Look at how many voted for Obama. And I BET they will vote for him again! You see, it's in their dna from slavery to be used that has been passed down generation to generation.

That's the karma of descendents of slaves. Nothing much can be done about it, except maybe 'some' Democratic Whites will continue to take pity on what happened to African Americans in this country.

But there comes a point in time where NOBODY will continue caretaking people who get taken for a ride over and over again-- and then blame Whites for it.

Until Blacks develop the chutzpah to deem themselves worthy as human beings instead of 3/4 of a human being, they will continue to be taken for a ride. It is because of this low self-worth mentality that Blacks will fight for the well-being of others but fail to come together for their own. It's a form of self-hatred, which, of course, most Blacks deny. This denial keeps the vicious cycle of subconscious self-hatred going.

Plans to exploit Iraq's oil reserves were discussed by government ministers and the world's largest oil companies the year before Britain took a leading role in invading Iraq, government documents show.

Last week, Iraq raised its oil output to the highest level for almost decade, 2.7 million barrels a day – seen as especially important at the moment given the regional volatility and loss of Libyan output. Many opponents of the war suspected that one of Washington's main ambitions in invading Iraq was to secure a cheap and plentiful source of oil.

Mr Muttitt, whose book Fuel on Fire is published next week, said: "Before the war, the Government went to great lengths to insist it had no interest in Iraq's oil. These documents provide the evidence that give the lie to those claims.

"We see that oil was in fact one of the Government's most important strategic considerations, and it secretly colluded with oil companies to give them access to that huge prize."

By Steven Thomma | McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON — He ran as the anti-Bush.

Silver-tongued, not tongue-tied. A team player on the world stage, not a lone cowboy. A man who'd put a stop to reckless Bush policies at home and abroad. In short, Barack Obama represented Change.

Well, that was then. Now, on one major policy after another, President Barack Obama seems to be morphing into George W. Bush.

On the nation's finances, the man who once ripped Bush as a failed leader for seeking to raise the nation's debt ceiling now wants to do it himself.

On terrorism, he criticized Bush for sending suspected terrorists to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and denying them access to U.S. civilian courts. Now he says he'll do the same.

On taxes, he called the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy wrong, and lately began calling again to end them. But in December he signed a deal with Republicans to extend them for two years, and recently he called the entire tax cut package good for the country.

And on war, as a candidate he said that the president didn't have authority to unilaterally attack a country that didn't pose an imminent threat to the U.S., and even then the president should always seek the informed consent of Congress. Last month, without a vote in Congress, he attacked Libya, which didn't threaten the U.S.

Despite receiving 95% of the Black vote (who were the second largest shareholders in Obama Inc.), Obama has made a calculated decision to reward the gay and Hispanic communities ahead of the Black community (the smallest and second smallest shareholders in Obama Inc.). In business, the CEO (Obama) and its board of directors (the Democratic National Committee) would be sued for fraud. But Obama knows that Blacks will only complain and do nothing.

The gay community stopped giving money to Obama and the Democrats because Obama didn’t deliver on any of his campaign promises to them—recognizing gay marriage, repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell,” and giving spousal benefits to gay couples who are federal employees.

The Hispanic community threatened not to vote for Obama or the Democratic Party if they didn’t get amnesty for those in the country illegally and passage of the Dream Act.

But, when asked what he would do specifically for the Black community, Obama said nothing—“he is the president of everyone and a rising tide lifts all boats!”

Despite being the second largest shareholder in Obama Inc., the Black community cannot point to a specific program or policy directed towards them and their issues. How do you justify dividend distributions to other shareholders, but not your second largest?

UTS; Clinton's last budget produced a deficit of 133.29 there was no surplus as the MSM and dummycrats tried to say. The only thing Clinton left behind was being only the second president in U.S history to be impeached.

Again, Clinton's supposed surplus was a lie. The national debt under Clinton went up Every year he was in office, what he did was pay down the public debt by borrowing against intra-government holdings. If you notice his end year budget the increase in National Debt is exactly the same as the decrease in public debt, with the decrease in public debt coming for more borrowed money adding to the national debt. Left Pocket, right pocket syndrome, sort of like Obama and GM.

He was a shyster and you fell for it.

FY 2001 Budget End Date 9/28. Public Debt 3.339310T Intra Gov Holdings 2,468153T Total National Debt Increased by 133.3.B or the same amount the Public debt decreased. No surplus there!.

(Reuters) - The Obama administration estimates U.S. military operations in Libya have cost about $550 million so far and will cost about $40 million a month going forward, a U.S. lawmaker said on Wednesday.
"It's about $550 million," said Norm Dicks, the senior Democrat on the House defense appropriations subcommittee. He spoke to reporters after a closed-door meeting with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The officials estimated the operations would cost another $40 million between now and April 18, and then $40 million more a month after that, Dicks said.

The Pentagon said on Tuesday spending of $550 million so far on military operations in Libya would stabilize at $40 million per month once U.S. forces are reduced and NATO takes over greater control.

As always, things boil down to the "undecided voters."

However, since there are no undecided black voters, the winner of the next presidential election will find himself carried to victory by the undecided segments of hispanic and white voters.

If Obama tries to buy more hispanic votes by offering a de facto amnesty for illegal hispanics, then he'll find a lot of undecided white voters going for the Republican, whom I hope is Romney.

    Nonsense.

Clinton had fiscal responsibility shoved down his throat by a Republican congress and was in office at a time where it would have been hard to screw things up, although he did try.

The 90's benefitted from $12 barrel oil (thank you GHWB), huge defense savings following the end of the cold war (thank you Ronald Reagan), productivity gains after years of IT investment (thank you Bill Gates) and the internet bubble (thank you NASDAQ), which apparently you can't recall burst during the Clinton adminstration. Clinton actually inherited a growing economy and passed off one in recession. He vetoed balanced budget initiatives and Welfare reform before being forced to sign off to get re-elected. He tried to get socialized medicine to pass, which would have bankrupted the country just as Obamacare will.

If you believe half the things you write, you are stupider than you look.

Workers whose entire occupations — not just the previous payroll positions they held — are disappearing (think: auto workers) will need to start over and find a new career path. But the new skills they will need take a long time to acquire.

What’s more, in addition to obtaining new degrees or training, some workers may need to move to new places in order to start a different career. But sharp declines in housing prices, plus high loan-to-value ratios on many mortgages before the downturn, will make that transition harder. Homeowners who are “underwater” — that is, who owe more in mortgage payments than their house is actually worth — may not be able to sell their house for enough money to enable them to buy a home in a new area.

All of which is to say that many of the Americans who are already out of work are likely to stay in that miserable state for a long, long time. And the longer they stay unemployed, the harder it will be for them to transition back into the work force, further adding to America’s growing underclass.

The administration is likely to have a big labor (and class) problem on its hands, and one that won’t be solved merely by an increase in the gross domestic product.

Vino Wong, vwong@ajc.com In Atlanta, Kiara Ridley (from left), Denetra Dawson and Torianna Dawson fill out applications at the Northside Drive McDonald's on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The fast food company says it will hire more than 1,000 in the greater Atlanta area.

Thousands showed up to restaurants nationwide to apply for jobs on the hamburger giant's first National Hiring Day, creating lines at some restaurants. The world's largest burger chain planned to use the day to add 50,000 new workers.
McDonald's painted the event as a boon for an economy where more than 13 million Americans are still looking for work. But the company usually staffs up for summer anyway. It added 50,000 new workers in April last year, so the blitz amounts to typical hiring, albeit compressed into a day.

The real purpose of the hiring campaign, industry experts said, was to portray the fast-food chain as a good employer.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama banked a six-figure savings when he agreed to extend the Bush-era tax cuts last year, as he hauled in $1.73 million, the first family's tax returns show.

Obama continued to earn big bucks last year, mainly through book royalties, according to tax returns released by the White House yesterday.

"I don't need another tax cut," Obama said last week.

But he sure got one. According to a tax calculator provided by the Tax Foundation, the Obama family saved about $100,000 compared to what they would have paid if the president and Congress had let the Bush tax cuts expire.

Still, the Obamas suffered a steep, 69 percent dropoff from last year, when they brought in $5.5 million.

The Obamas paid $435,770 in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Late last year, Obama agreed to extend reduced income-tax rates for two additional years, along with a temporary payroll-tax cut, though he says he wants to let the cut expire for wealthier Americans in 2012.

Obama earned $1.568 million last year through sales of his books, "Dreams From My Father," "The Audacity of Hope," and "Of Thee I Sing." He pulled in a salary of almost $395,188 as president.

He and First Lady Michelle Obama donated $245,075 to charity, or about 14 percent of their adjusted gross income.

Last year, they gave more, $329,000, but it amounted to only 6 percent of their $5.5 million haul that year.

The Obamas managed to lower their effective tax rate, which was 26 percent this year, compared to about a third of their income last year.

Can't be a racist Goober without consequences, can't live like Riley on 'Merican wages, you are not what others wish to be, you have to pay the going rate for stuff, and being illiterate is a handicap.
Well, you could always push for a massive global catastrophe in the futile hope that Heeyucks will inherit the earth. Even then, you will lose out. What plan would work to alleviate the current forclosure crisis? The 13 trillion dollars of tax payer's money that the government has given to the Wall Street bankers is far more than it would take for the government to pay off ALL “bad” mortgages for private homeowners.

Imagine the boost to the economy when people's money no longer went to mortgage payments! And this would eliminate all the “bad” mortgages plaging the banks books. It would inject lots of money into the economy and create prosperity and economic development in many previously devastated African communities. So why not?

It is simple. The banks make their unreasonably high profits based on interest paid over a very long time. The higher the interest and the longer the payment period, the greater the profit made. Paying off people's mortgages would serve to stabilize the economy and serve the welfare of the vast majority of people in the US. It would help reverse the harm done by subprime lenders who have leeched unreasonable profits to serve their lavish lifestyles at the expense of African and poor communities.

What this sensible alternative would not do is serve the needs of those who are determined to continue to reap huge profits from oppressed and working people

At first glance it is not exactly clear that this alternative plan would be a serious challenge to the capitalist system. After all, once the toxic mortgages were off the books of the banks they could in theory go on lending money to new homebuyers and continue to make profits. Yet this fails to consider the absolute dependence of capitalism – which was built on the enslavement of African people and the genocide of the Indigenous people – on the continuing exploitation of oppressed communities in the United States.

Stop the presses; Obama is cutting energy assistance for the poor. That’s HEAP for all those Obama supporters who are incapable of doing the math.

So much for the free gas, homes, money and the idea that Obama supporters would not have to work. Well, actually you do not have to work because there are no jobs.

After all, that is why some people sold their vote; for all of the free stuff they were promised.

    NATIONAL JOURNAL

“President Obama’s proposed 2012 budget will cut several billion dollars from the government’s energy assistance fund for poor people, officials briefed on the subject told National Journal.

It’s the biggest domestic spending cut disclosed so far, and one that will likely generate the most heat from the president’s traditional political allies. That would satisfy the White House, which has a vested interest in convincing Americans that it is serious about budget discipline.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, would see funding drop by about $3 billion from an authorized 2009 total of $5.1 billion. The proposed cut will not touch the program’s emergency reserve fund, about $590 million, which can be used during particularly harsh cold snaps or extended heat spells, three officials told National Journal.

In 2010, Obama signed into law an omnibus budget resolution that released a total of about $5 billion in LIHEAP grants for 2011. Pointing to the increasing number of Americans who made use of the grants last year, advocates say that LIHEAP is already underfunded. The American Gas Association predicts that 3 million Americans eligible for the program won’t be able to receive it unless LIHEAP funding stays at its current level.”

The anointed one giveth and he taketh away, suckers.

You somehow wonder that I want you to read Ted Rall...and act surprised when you find he writes his own opinion? Maybe you should ask if the point is for you to cheerlead for wingnuts...or to learn.

WASHINGTON -- CEOs at 299 U.S. companies earned a staggering $3.4 billion combined in executive compensation in 2010, a new study by the nation’s largest labor union found.

Nearly 190 of those chief executives got a pay raise compared to their 2009 levels, the AFL-CIO noted in a report presented to reporters on Tuesday. The total amount of compensation represented a 23 percent increase from the prior year. In all, the sum of the salaries earned by those 299 CEOs equalled the combined average earnings of more than 100,000 workers in their respective companies.

The figures, which are part of the union federation’s annual Executive PayWatch -- a searchable database examining publicly available payment information from S&P 500 Companies -- reflect what AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka called a culture of “runaway CEO pay.” The numbers were presented as part of a larger pitch for Congress and the President to clamp down on executive compensation and protect the gains made on this front in the financial regulatory reform bill passed last year.

wf moms who almost kill their kids!

The world is aghast at the story of Lashanda Armstrong, the New York woman who drowned herself and her children. But as a woman who once contemplated the very same terrible act, I feel I understand her.

Lashanda Armstrong, a mother of four from upstate New York, drove her minivan into the frigid Hudson River on Tuesday, killing herself and three of her four children. There will be no birthday party this week for her daughter, Lainaina Pierre, who would have turned 1 on Wednesday. The children's grandmother "can't see them no more...can't hold them no more," as she cried to a reporter. While many people will judge Lashanda for causing such pain and ending the lives of three innocent children, I don't, because at one point in my life, years ago, I thought of killing myself and my children, too.

Learning I was pregnant again for the fourth time was difficult beyond belief. I was angry at him: angry at having to carry, sustain, and give birth to another human life. I knew that life would take precious time and attention away from the three daughters I already had. The fact that it could be a baby boy didn't make it any easier. I believed he would just grow up to be a replica of his father, someone who used and looked down on women. More and more, my three other pregnancies kept returning to my thoughts, and the more I thought about them, and how they came to be, the angrier I became.

het women who hate het men

My family moved from California to Preston County, West Virginia, a rural and picturesque coal-mining community, when I was 5. I met my future husband two years later when he was 15, and our families became friends. I turned 13 and was an eighth-grader when he had sex with me over my protests. This happened over and over for the next three years, until I was 16 and a senior in high school, planning to graduate and hoping to attend a music conservatory, or become a model or even an actor. Anything but become a mother—which occurred just a few months later. We married one week after I graduated from West Preston High School, which, incidentally, was also featured on 20/20 that year for having the largest number of pregnant teens in the country. The forced sex continued throughout our marriage. He wouldn't let me use birth control, leading to four successive pregnancies.

Looking for a job, it seems your résumé goes into a black hole," St. Louis, 46, told HuffPost, describing the process of flinging one job application after another at unresponsive potential employers and staffing agencies.
St. Louis said her family is grateful for the $325 she's received every week in unemployment insurance since her layoff: "This money's sustaining us."

But now the sustenance has been cut off. The federal Extended Benefits program, which provides up to 20 weeks of benefits for long-term unemployed who burn through both state benefits and federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation, expired this month in North Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

The deadline for payouts passed on April 16. The North Carolina General Assembly approved a bill that would preserve the benefits, but Gov. Bev Perdue (D) vetoed it Saturday because Republicans paired the measure with deep budget cuts. St. Louis is one of 37,000 long-term unemployed North Carolinians have been left hanging.
