Field, there is a big difference in releasing the photos of Emmett Till and OBL. Emmett was killed because he whistled at a ww in MS. But OBL killed over 3000 Americans and took down the WTC. ReplyDeleteThat picture was on the cover of JET which stayed on our coffee table for an extended period. I had nightmares and the other children in the neighborhood were haunted by that for months. We felt so helpless and seemed to realize that when the boogeyman is out to get you; your parents and the other adults in the community would not be able to save you.
I for one believe that he's dead and the wingnuts will never be satisfied. They are already thinking of ways to "dis" the President and stating "stupid stuff" about this incident.

A BBC interview with a Pakistani former mucky muck last night said that Osama was not even able to stand up. The Paki guy did not say when he had last heard or seen of Obama, but in the context of the interview it was "not recently". The interviewee was a former Paki government official living in the UK it seemed.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Osama's last video with contemporary topical content was released 7 years ago in Oct 29th, 2004 when he suddenly claimed responsibility for 9/11 in contrast to his earlier video denials.
The timing of this video clearly boosted Bush's 2004 re-election bid four days later on Nov 2, 2004. After this point, Obama had served his purpose for our WoT and his continued existence was less desirable than his virtual existence.
After that Oct 29th, 2004 video, there were no more videos of Osama discussing contemporary issues. Except for 1 or 2 very brief general topic video segments pasted into longer audio releases and periodic audio only tapes with his static photo attached in a video, the popular and telegenic Osama went off the air for good. This inexplicable change in propaganda tactics is one of the main reasons why many believe Osama died, possibly due to his known medical issues, years ago.
The best explainations why Osama stopped making his highly popular videos (among his followers) was that he either (a) was dead or (b) too sickly to be seen on video.
Which means that the US SEALS may have had to put a bullet into the head of some sickly bed-ridden Osama (or one who just committed sucide).
This helps explain some of the oddities in the official account which has changed within the first 24hrs.
* (according to the latest version) Why didn't Osama have a gun, shoot himself or at others given so much time with the noises outside?
* Why didn't Osama try to escape? Certainly he would've had escape tunnels for just such an expected event and there was sufficient warning from the helicopters and noises outside to scramble down an escape tunnel.
* Why was he so lightly guarded? He was too sick to move, possibly near death, and if discovered he would die if moved anyway.
* Why did his wife shield him and have to be shot in the leg to get her out of the way? Or not, depending upon the version - but it very easy to image a woman covering her bedridden husband.
If Osama was gravely sick, it seems provisions would at least be made for a suicide pill or injection to avoid potential "enhanced interrogation" or worse (handover to a black site in an allied country like Egypt).
* The details of this scenario would strongly argue for a quick disposal of the corpse to avoid any investigations into the details of Osama's death - be he gravely ill or dead by suicide before our SEAL team got there.

The fact is that blacks disproportionately serve in Army combat-service support units, not combat units. Such units have been "majority minority," since the 1990's, with more black soldiers than white. By contrast, the infantry, which generally suffers the most casualties in wartime, has been "whiter than America" for the past quarter century.
Blacks and whites join the military for different reasons. On the one hand, white youths are frequently looking for adventure while they try to raise money for college. As a result, they tend to flock to the combat arms, especially elite units like the Rangers and airborne. On the other, young black males, "are generally seeking skills, and so gravitate toward administrative and technical jobs. Because they often find the Army a fairer and better place to live than civilian society, blacks tend to stay enlisted longer.
In addition, most pilots are white, as are most special-operations forces, e.g. Navy SEALS and Army special-forces. In a war, middle-class white kids, not minorities, are at the greatest risk, since they make up the bulk of the combat arms.
Statisitcs for the Iraq War (as of 2007) show American whites, relative to their share of the young population, were getting killed in combat at 1.86 times the rate of nonwhites.
In Afghanistan through 2009, whites were dying at a rate 2.47 times their share of the population of 20-24 year olds.
When you look at the stats for Vietnam, the story we were told about minority cannon fodder turns out to have been false. Then as now whites led in service, in wounds, and in deaths in Vietnam and in a greater ratio than their representation in the population.

How would that be done? Would Eric Holder issue search warrants to be executed in Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Afghanistan and Pakistan?
Would Holder subpeona witnesses from those "countries" to testify against bin Laden?
What would the defense attorneys do? They'd say it's impossible to conduct a "fair trial" because so many of bin Laden's fellow al-Qaeda members are dead -- killed by the US military since 9/11 -- leaving no one to testify on bin Laden's behalf.
Of course the idea of a trial is laughable. The US has NO jurisdiction empowering it to conduct pre-trial activities in the nations where bin Laden lived and operated.
Thus all evidence would boil down to hearsay, useless in US courts.
Of course if bin Laden had been captured, interrogators could have waterboarded him and gotten a confession. But confessions obtained through torture are not admissible as evidence.
Americans enjoy many conspiracy theories. Stories about Lincoln's assassination are still around.

Inevitably the subject of OJ arose. The same barroom of black patrons said OJ did NOT commit the killings, but he probably knows who did.
OJ had a large team of lawyers who said he didn't do it, just as bin Laden would if he were tried in court. OJ was aquitted.
It's bad enough that the obviously guilty OJ got away with a double homicide. Can you imagine if a couple of people from the Nation of Islam were on bin Laden's jury? They'd vote for acquittal, which, at the very least would create a hung jury.
Maybe thrasher would become a member of that jury. He'd probably vote to acquit bin Laden.
By having bin Laden killed, Obama did the right thing. But the follow-up has been, surprise surprise, disastrous.

Owens also served in Vietnam as an officer in the Marine Corps.
Meanwhile, with respect to combat deaths in Vietnam, the numbers matched the racial demographics of the country at the time. Slightly over 10% of those killed in combat were black. At the time about 11%-12% of the US population was black.
As far as who got drafted, there was no shortage of white draftees. A lot of whites never went to college and even if they did get a college deferment, deferments were temporary, which led to a lot of white college grads getting their induction notices shortly after getting their college degrees.

Those outfits are good ol boy networks that use very subjective criteria to select who can join.

The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive.
Have these nitwits not heard that when you tax a gallon of gasoline, you tax the driver by the number of miles he drives?
In a way, this idea suggests that cars are getting too many miles per gallon for the gasoline tax to raise as much revenue as Obama wants to raise. It appears he wants to hit every driver with a fixed fee per mile driven, regardless of the efficiency of the vehicle itself.
While Obama exempt the Chevy Volt from this insane tax?
Not that it will matter. GM sold only 493 Volts, the $41,000 electyric golf cart, in the month of April. Their mileage tax would amount to nothing.

Truthfully, I care very little about racial categorization, and consider culture to be the most signifcant characterisitc when evaluating people I don't know personally.
For the record, Obama's ancestry is:
White American (European descent): 50%
Black East African (Kenyan): 50%
African American (descended of slaves brought from West Africa): 0%
Culturally, Obama was raised by his his leftist mother and her leftist parents, with some input from his Indonesian stepfather. There was zero input from his African father.
The American part of his childhood took place in Hawaii, a place that never had slaves and had almost no black people in the 1960's.
When he went to college at Occidental, he hung around exclusivley with foreign students and marxist professors. Ditto for Columbia, with the addition of a gay roomate.
The whole being black thing didn't really start until he hooked up with Michelle and moved to Chicago.
Most white people in this country had a more culturally "black" upbringing than Obama had.

West Africans and East Africans are very different peoples. Genetically, they are more different than an Irishman is from a Japanese.
Africa, being the cradle of humanity, has more genetic diversity than the rest of the world combined. Geneticists have identified at least 12 distinct population groups in Africa. The rest of the world is descended from probably at most three of these groups from north-east Africa.
Outside of the genetic evidence, East and West Africans look very different from one another. They also have a quite different distribution in physical talents.
For example, 99 of the top times in the 100 meter dash were posted by men of West African descent. There are none by East Africans.
East Africans are utterly dominant in races around 10,000 meters, and almost utterly dominant in marathons (eg Kenyans at the Boston marathon). There are no top West African distance runners.

I am black and I served seven years in the U.S. Army (2001 - 2008). And the person who commented about racial proportions is somewhat correct.
ReplyDeleteA military occupational specialty (MOS) falls in three categories combat arms (CA), combat support (CS) and combat service support (CSS). I served in the Signal Corps (combat support). Further, I served in a "special mission unit."
All three areas (CA, CS and CSS) are majority white. You see more blacks in CS and CSS, with the most in CSS.
Having served in CS, I can tell you that some CS elements are embedded within a higher CA element. In my case, I served in a signal troop that was part of an cavalry squadron, which is in a cavalry regiment.
I joined the signal corps, because my recruiter encouraged me based on my test scores. Further, I studied Computer Information Systems in college.
Some of the whites and blacks who enlist in CA have a true sense of patriotism, selfless service and adventure. Some enlist in CA, because that's all they qualified for. And some reenlist to get a occupational specialty that is in CS or CSS. It is upon this premise that I say the person who commented on the racial disparity between CA, CS and CSS is somewhat correct.
I also had the privilege to serve in a special mission unit. Again, those units are majority white. Again, some of the whites and blacks who served/volunteered in these units had a sense of adventure. Others, volunteered to get away from the monotony of the regular army. All are exceptional at their craft whether its CA, CS or CSS. Because all three branches work together to accomplish the mission.
I hate to read people making comments about the military, when it is obvious they never served a day and are citing statistics that they got from an shady source.

Look at the following statistics, and whatever fits you fancy, consider a +10% and -10% error in any number. Not an error in a percent but a whole number. I hope y'all understand that, but lets take a look at the following.
"Although they made up less than 10 percent of American men in arms and about 13 percent of the U.S. population between 1961 and 1966, they accounted for almost 20 percent of all combat-related deaths in Vietnam during that period. In 1965 alone African Americans represented almost one-fourth of the Army's killed in action. In 1968 African Americans, who made up roughly 12 percent of Army and Marine total strengths, frequently contributed half the men in front-line combat units, especially in rifle squads and fire teams"
Wow, for the "math" challenged lets use simple numbers. Be honest (if you care to) and look at what those numbers are saying. In 1965, if there was 100 soldiers, 10 of them were black(1 out of 10). Now, to show the larger picture, increase the number to 1000 soldiers, 250 of the black soldiers died! NOT 1 out of 10, 1 out of 4! That's a huge disparity. Why?
Racism. For those that don't know it, members of the military that find themselves in jobs/careers in the armed forces that require they be in high death rate occupations, do not always choose those position, and I know this to be a fact, I lived through it and have knowledge directly related to the subject at hand. There are thousands of jobs in the military and many have nothing to do with carrying a weapon. Picture the military as a city or a state, to get a better understanding. Look around at ALL the jobs in that city. Now you see the military... banks, buses,restaurants, planes, cars, police, toilets need fixing, streets need cleaning, clothes need clening, dayy care centers, you local gym, hospitals, entertainers, air traffic controllers, church and it's personel, travel agencies, nightclubs, etc, and they are all run by military personel.

ReplyDeleteNow, those jobs are not assigned by someone picking out of a hat... oh no. And many of them can be filled by anyone that passed the exam to get into the military. So again, who places the individuals in those jobs?
Let me tell you something, I worked in personnel, it was the job I wanted and knew I had before I set foot in bootcamp. I was like Ali, I was treated like an underclass citizen in the USA but I was suppose to kill some people on their lands? That made no sense to me, and it's been proven that we lost thousands of live for absolutely nothing (check out the history of the Viet Nam war).
Anyway, in my job I was privy to all the information of every servicemen that came to the base, medical records, everything. Also, I saw the tears and the look in many soldiers eyes when they were told what their jobs were going to be. And listen, as I said, unless it was a high tech job, like flying aircraft and/or special skills and physical limitations, the jobs went to who you knew and the color of you skin. I saw all the test score and the color of each individuals skin. I knew every job that was offered by the military and how many position/slots they had in each. Many don't know this or understand how that works, but just like a city, there will only be a certain number of firemen (yes, that a military job).
Now, jobs are assigned by a unit at what is call a headquarters base. Those that work their (most) fall under the classification of "personnel" type soldiers. They assign jobs/careers and who will be stationed where.
I can go deeper but I am sure you get my drift. Well, in one case, I was processing in a black soldier and he began asking me how he could change his M.O., in the Air Force they call them AFSC (job classifications). He was not only in his quandrary, I saw hundreds just like him. Anyway, I noticed that his test scores would put him in the top 5% but he was assigned a job as a cook. He had been bamboozled by his recruiter and the system.
I am telling y'all what I know, not what someone told me.
Again, I can go much deeper. Some in this tread were making assumption on why each race chose the military. Well, much of the opinions were simply not true. Humans are humans, and I talked with and saw the records of thousand. They came from every small town, dusty road, big cities and small cities, and in such, their needs a desires were all different which ahd little or nothing to do with the color of their skin. Some of the poorest people and dumbest people I met while in the military were white folks.

Well, that sounds nice, but their shread-out (classification) was different from what they thought they would be doing. Can you imagine standing on a flightline, cold as hell, guarding a damn plane... ALL NIGHT LONG, every day. Nobodie is out there but you and maybe another guy, who is not within yelling distance. It was a horrible job!

Man, I got stories, some dudes would offer to pay me to change their test score so they could apply for cross-training. Also, the bases they were sent to - every soldier (some next to hell)depended on test scores and other factors in their records. A security clearence could be denied for a multitude of things, including bad credit. All
