Passion on the right but none on the left.

*
Before I start this post, I would like to take a moment to think about the thousands of children who have died in Somalia due to the turmoil that has rocked that region.............................

Let's keep those poor children in our thoughts.

Now unfortunately, here in A-merry-ca, gun violence has once again caused unspeakable horror to hit a small community:

"COPLEY, Ohio — A man apparently angry with his girlfriend gunned down two people outside an Ohio home and two more in a car Sunday morning, then shot the girlfriend in a rampage that left eight dead including the gunman, who was shot by police, authorities and witnesses said.

Two others were wounded, police said. A child was among those shot, witnesses said, though police wouldn’t confirm that. Investigators were trying to piece together what happened at four crime scenes, Copley police Chief Michael Mier said.

A neighbor, Gilbert Elie, said he was getting ready for church when he heard gunshots and cries for help in his northeast Ohio neighborhood, a wooded, residential area outside Akron. He went to a house across the street and said he found a shocking scene: the woman who lived there lying in the driveway, her husband shot near the garage, and their young granddaughter and another woman sho t in the front seat of a vehicle, the windows apparently blown out by gunfire.

A third woman came out of the house next door and tried to talk to Elie, he said, but their brief exchange ended abruptly when a man followed her out of the house and shot her, sending the 75-year-old Elie running for safety behind a truck.

“She was talking to me, and he come up behind her and shot her, so I figured, maybe I’m next,” he told The Associated Press.
He hid until he could see the gunman was gone, then returned home. Police arrived, and Elie said he heard a second round of shots coming from behind the houses and assumed officers had killed the gunman." [Story]

It seems that I do one of these stories at least once a month. I am sure that I will be doing another one again really soon.

Finally, over at The Root, someone wants to know if the left has lost its passion:

"...The Tea Party's remarkable victory reminds us that a radical splinter group can seize control of the issues and impose its will by threatening to wreck the system if it does not get its way.

That is a lesson that the left used to know back in the days of the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements but seems to have forgotten since the presidential election of Barack Obama. The old distinction once drawn between mass social movements and political campaigns was lost in the emotional fervor aroused by the triumph of the first African-American president.

A lot of us acted as though Obama's election was an end in itself, rather than a means to accomplishing the change that his candidacy promised. But the election was never really about just getting Obama elected. It was about our ability to compel the new president and the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress to respond to our needs and our demands.

To do that, we still needed a movement, separate and apart from the president's political apparatus, that could support him when he did the right thing and pressure him when he didn't. As evangelical activist Jim Wallis recently wrote, "it was the robust activism of those independent progressive movements of the past that created the space for major reforms and made other presidencies memorable. That's because social change does not ultimately rest on who is in the White House, but a movement outside of Washington, D.C., that makes fundamental reforms possible." [Full article]

Yes, a movement "outside of Washington", indeed. But where will it come from?
Starting a movement these days requires money. The tea party clowns had lots of it. They were bought and paid for by wealthy folks who bankrolled all types of front groups. Their passion was manufactured and it was made easier to do so because of the color arousal (thanks for that word, Francis) that gripped most of the folks who rode with them. (See those people* in the picture? Most of them probably lost their jobs under George Bush.)

There is no passion on the left because the propagandist on the right have done a damn good job of selling their snake oil to you A-merry-cans. "We are all in this together. We are A-merry-cans first, and we will not let those lefties take us down a path to Socialism."Yeah right. Even the so called progressives in this country still align themselves with one politrickster or another. But it's the same old run around. It just feel a little better because the guy screwing you happened to buy you a drink, first.

But this could all change soon. As the wealth gap widens and folks start to see that they have been played, maybe the passion will come back. Politricksters in both political parties care about only one thing: staying in power. And they will do whatever it takes to keep going back to Washington. Hopefully a time will come in this country when the rest of us will start doing everything in our powers to make sure that they don't. Or, better yet, even if they do get to Washington; what they do when they get there wont even matter.

Speaking as card-carrying member of "the left:" Obama let us down. It's about standing UP to the right. You can't blame the Tea Party.

You really should be quoting from the NYT:

    Wall Street Journal:

An Interracial Fix for Black Marriage

Black women could find more partners across the race line—and it might just spur more black couples to wed

    By RALPH RICHARD BANKS

"At this point in my life," says Audrey, age 39, "I thought I'd be married with children." A native of southeast Washington, D.C., and the child of parents who are approaching their 50th wedding anniversary, Audrey seems like the proverbial "good catch"—smart, funny, well-educated, attractive.

Audrey earns a good living, too, with an income from management consulting that far surpasses what her parents ever made. Her social life is busy as well, filled with family, friends and church.

Only about one in 20 black women is interracially married; they are much less likely than black men to cross the race line.

What Audrey lacks is a husband. As she told me, sitting at a restaurant in the fashionable Dupont Circle neighborhood of the nation's capital, "I'm trying to get to a point where I accept that marriage may never happen for me."

Audrey belongs to the most unmarried group of people in the U.S.: black women. Nearly 70% of black women are unmarried, and the racial gap in marriage spans the socioeconomic spectrum, from the urban poor to well-off suburban professionals.

Three in 10 college-educated black women haven't married by age 40; their white peers are less than half as likely to have remained unwed.

    What explains this marriage gap?

As a black man, my interest in the issue is more than academic.

I've looked at all the studies—the history, the social science, the government data—and I've spent a year traveling the country interviewing scores of professional black women.

I came away convinced of two facts: Black women confront the worst relationship market of any group because of economic and cultural forces that are not of their own making; and they have needlessly worsened their situation by limiting themselves to black men.

I also arrived at a startling conclusion: Black women can best promote black marriage by opening themselves to relationships with men of other races.

Audrey and other black women confront a social scene in which desirable black men are scarce.

Part of the problem is incarceration. More than two million men are now imprisoned in the U.S., and roughly 40% of them are African-American.

At any given time, more than 10% of black men in their 20s or 30s—prime marrying ages—are in jail or prison.

Educationally, black men also lag. There are roughly 1.4 million black women now in college, compared to just 900,000 black men. By graduation, black women outnumber men 2-to-1.

Among graduate-school students, in 2008 there were 125,000 African-American women but only 58,000 African-American men. That same year, black women received more than three out of every five law or medical degrees awarded to African-Americans.

The problem is not the left, the problem is Obama; he has punked all the way out. Too, too, concerned about being seen as an angry Black man.

That story would have made clear that the president understood that the American people had given Democrats the presidency and majorities in both houses of Congress to fix the mess the Republicans and Wall Street had made of the country, and that this would not be a power-sharing arrangement. It would have made clear that the problem wasn’t tax-and-spend liberalism or the deficit — a deficit that didn’t exist until George W. Bush gave nearly $2 trillion in tax breaks largely to the wealthiest Americans and squandered $1 trillion in two wars.
    ...
Those were the shoes — that was the historic role — that Americans elected Barack Obama to fill. The president is fond of referring to “the arc of history,” paraphrasing the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous statement that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” But with his deep-seated aversion to conflict and his profound failure to understand bully dynamics — in which conciliation is always the wrong course of action, because bullies perceive it as weakness and just punch harder the next time — he has broken that arc and has likely bent it backward for at least a generation.
    ...
IN contrast, when faced with the greatest economic crisis, the greatest levels of economic inequality, and the greatest levels of corporate influence on politics since the Depression, Barack Obama stared into the eyes of history and chose to avert his gaze. Instead of indicting the people whose recklessness wrecked the economy, he put them in charge of it. He never explained that decision to the public — a failure in storytelling as extraordinary as the failure in judgment behind it. Had the president chosen to bend the arc of history, he would have told the public the story of the destruction wrought by the dismantling of the New Deal regulations that had protected them for more than half a century.
    ...
The truly decisive move that broke the arc of history was his handling of the stimulus. The public was desperate for a leader who would speak with confidence, and they were ready to follow wherever the president led. Yet instead of indicting the economic policies and principles that had just eliminated eight million jobs, in the most damaging of the tic-like gestures of compromise that have become the hallmark of his presidency — and against the advice of multiple Nobel-Prize-winning economists — he backed away from his advisers who proposed a big stimulus, and then diluted it with tax cuts that had already been shown to be inert.
    ...
A final explanation is that he ran for president on two contradictory platforms: as a reformer who would clean up the system, and as a unity candidate who would transcend the lines of red and blue. He has pursued the one with which he is most comfortable given the constraints of his character, consistently choosing the message of bipartisanship over the message of confrontation.
    ...
But the arc of history does not bend toward justice through capitulation cast as compromise. It does not bend when 400 people control more of the wealth than 150 million of their fellow Americans. It does not bend when the average middle-class family has seen its income stagnate over the last 30 years while the richest 1 percent has seen its income rise astronomically. It does not bend when we cut the fixed incomes of our parents and grandparents so hedge fund managers can keep their 15 percent tax rates. It does not bend when only one side in negotiations between workers and their bosses is allowed representation. And it does not bend when, as political scientists have shown, it is not public opinion but the opinions of the wealthy that predict the votes of the Senate. The arc of history can bend only so far before it breaks.

  6. Now to the Tea people..They might have a new focus soon..eh..probably not. This is from the website of the State of Idaho, Dept of Commerce:

As economic power shifts to Asia, Idaho's location makes it a prime site for an industrial foothold
A Chinese national company is interested in developing a 10,000- to 30,000-acre technology zone for industry, retail centers and homes south of the Boise Airport.

I guess you gotta house those Chinese workers.

Southeast Idaho Energy hopes to turn coal into gas to produce nitrogen fertilizer and sulfur. The company expects to hire 700 to 1,000 people during construction with 150 permanent workers.

    Wonder "whose" gonna be permanent?

And guess whose gonna mind their investment - the USA, a little closer:

China's state-run news agency is considering Denver for a production facility and studio employing as many as 300 as it builds an international English- language news channel to eventually challenge CNN.

"They're looking for a U.S. base to have a production facility and studio where they can be centrally located in the U.S.," Thomson said. "That's why they're considering Denver."

But wait, I think they're already here:

Xinhua, the news agency run by Chinese government, joined Time Square’s glowing pantheon of corporate iconography Monday, taking the second-highest position in a tower of flashing displays for Prudential, Coca-Cola, Samsung and Hyundai.

There is no passion on the left because they have controlled at least two thirds of the government since the 2006 elections. The left IS the government.

We are now seeing what 5 years of leftist rule has done. The party of Reid, Pelosi and Obama has brought America to its knees.

The passion now lies with those who wish to restore the freedoms that have made America great. Sharpton has assumed the role of Obama's political muscle among what passes for Black leadership. His job is to bully into submission those Blacks that dare to even suggest that African Americans need to agitate for their own interests, to speak Truth to Power, even when that Power is represented by a Black man in the White House. In his capacity as the president's junkyard dog, Sharpton verbally savages even the mildest critics of an administration that has greatly expanded U.S. wars while overseeing the biggest transfer in history of public wealth to private pockets. Sharpton bit into Tavis Smiley [5] when the talk-show entrepreneur proposed that Black America formulate its own political agenda, separate from Obama's policies, which have seen Black unemployment, evictions and foreclosures reach Depression-era levels. Sharpton snarled that folks like Smiley were trying to hold Obama to a "double-standard," demanding more from a Black president than they would from a white Democrat - which is absolute nonsense, since so-called Black leadership has made virtually no demands on Obama since he announced his candidacy three years ago.

Like Shakespeare's Othello, Sharpton has "done the state some service," and Obama knows it. The administration has thrown its Black junkyard dog the red meat he craves: public recognition that Sharpton is a player in the power game - "Obama's New Partner [7]," as the Wall Street Journal put it. The Washington Post has made it all but official, that Sharpton and Obama are a political couple [8]. One right-wing Washington outfit [9] called Sharpton a "shadow member of the Obama cabinet," which is, in one sense, quit unfair, since every day is show time and bright lights for the Rev. Al Sharpton, who only seeks the shadows when he's getting paid for services rendered.
Which brings us to the very serious down-side to Sharpton's emergence as a the newly-crowned principal Black defender of White House Power. Rev. Sharpton, who has often stated that his two main mentors in life were soul singer James Brown and boxing Mafioso Don King, has up to now enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with the national corporate media. To put it bluntly, they love him, and have needed him, as their flashy caricature of a Black leader. Sharpton's sleazy dealings are legendary in Black activist circles, but he has only once been deeply scrutinized by the media. That was in 2004, when the New York Village Voice revealed that Sharpton's presidential campaign was largely financed by Republican dirty-trickster [10] Roger Stone. Now that Sharpton has truly hit the big time, the media spotlights will surely burn him to a crisp. Al Sharpton's financial dealings cannot stand serious scrutiny. His service to Power is going to cost him dearly - and President Obama will find himself covered with the slime, as well. Mark my words.

    .

"Yes, officially the recession ended two years ago, and the economy did indeed pull out of a terrifying tailspin. But at no point has growth looked remotely adequate given the depth of the initial plunge. In particular, when employment falls as much as it did from 2007 to 2009, you need a lot of job growth to make up the lost ground. And that just hasn’t happened.

Consider one crucial measure, the ratio of employment to population. In June 2007, around 63 percent of adults were employed. In June 2009, the official end of the recession, that number was down to 59.4. As of June 2011, two years into the alleged recovery, the number was: 58.2.

These may sound like dry statistics, but they reflect a truly terrible reality. Not only are vast numbers of Americans unemployed or underemployed, for the first time since the Great Depression many American workers are facing the prospect of very-long-term — maybe permanent — unemployment. Among other things, the rise in long-term unemployment will reduce future government revenues, so we’re not even acting sensibly in purely fiscal terms. But, more important, it’s a human catastrophe.

And why should we be surprised at this catastrophe? Where was growth supposed to come from? Consumers, still burdened by the debt that they ran up during the housing bubble, aren’t ready to spend. Businesses see no reason to expand given the lack of consumer demand. And thanks to that deficit obsession, government, which could and should be supporting the economy in its time of need, has been pulling back.

Now it looks as if it’s all about to get even worse. So what’s the response?

To turn this disaster around, a lot of people are going to have to admit, to themselves at least, that they’ve been wrong and need to change their priorities, right away.

Of course, some players won’t change. Republicans won’t stop screaming about the deficit because they weren’t sincere in the first place: Their deficit hawkery was a club with which to beat their political opponents, nothing more — as became obvious whenever any rise in taxes on the rich was suggested. And they’re not going to give up that club.

But the policy disaster of the past two years wasn’t just the result of G.O.P. obstructionism, which wouldn’t have been so effective if the policy elite — including at least some senior figures in the Obama administration — hadn’t agreed that deficit reduction, not job creation, should be our main priority. Nor should we let Ben Bernanke and his colleagues off the hook: The Fed has by no means done all it could, partly because it was more concerned with hypothetical inflation than with real unemployment, partly because it let itself be intimidated by the Ron Paul types.

Well, it’s time for all that to stop. Those plunging interest rates and stock prices say that the markets aren’t worried about either U.S. solvency or inflation. They’re worried about U.S. lack of growth. And they’re right, even if on Wednesday the White House press secretary chose, inexplicably, to declare that there’s no threat of a double-dip recession.

Earlier this week, the word was that the Obama administration would “pivot” to jobs now that the debt ceiling has been raised. But what that pivot would mean, as far as I can tell, was proposing some minor measures that would be more symbolic than substantive. And, at this point, that kind of proposal would just make President Obama look ridiculous.

The point is that it’s now time — long past time — to get serious about the real crisis the economy faces. The Fed needs to stop making excuses, while the president needs to come up with real job-creation proposals. And if Republicans block those proposals, he needs to make a Harry Truman-style campaign against the do-nothing G.O.P.

This might or might not work. But we already know what isn’t working: the economic policy of the past two years — and the millions of Americans who should have jobs, but don’t."--NYT

No, the "point" of the democratic policies has been to destroy private sector jobs and create more dependents of the government (aka democrat voters).

"Real job creating proposals" would be those that - wait for it - actually made it EASIER to create jobs. Things like cutting business taxes, ending incentives to send jobs overseas, and cutting red tape.

Instead, the president refuses to stop talking about increasing "revenues" (aka taxes) and his administration, particularly the EPA, keeps churning out onerous regulations that are costing MILLIONS of jobs. When the costs of Obamacare start kicking in over the next few years, the economy will completely collapse.

The only solution to America's economic problems is the removal of the democrats from power.

    I'm with you dude:

    Crises begun under Republicans

Oct. 1929 Stock crash / Great Depression
    1974-75 Big recession
    1981-82 Big recession
    10/19/1987 Stock crash
    10/13/1989 Mini-crash
1989 Savings & Loan industry collapse
    Oct. 2001 Enron scandal
    March 2002 Internet bubble
2008 Financial meltdown, stock crash, worst crisis since Depression
    Bernie Madoff $60 billion scam

    Crises begun under Democrats

    1937-38 Recession within Depression
    March 1980 Silver price crash
    10/27/1997 Mini-crash
    3/10/2000 Dot com bubble

So how do the Republicans and Democrats compare? The Democrats' list is much shorter and the events on the list are less serious. The 1937-38 downturn might not have been considered a major recession if it had not taken place during the Republicans' Depression. The silver crisis and the 1997 mini-crash aren't that memorable compared to most of the items on the Republican list.

There are still thousands of passionate activists in this country who stand for justice and for human rights and against racism, sexism, homophobia and attacks on the poor and working class. There are thousands who don't drink the koolaid who don't make excuses for the rich, who seek fair and decent housing for all folks and yes a fair wage Dr. Queen (one that folks can live on its not complicated).

There are thousands who attend rallies against this government's killing in Pakistan and Yemen and the occupying of Iraq and Afganistan.

And anon my point last post wa that the US shouldn't be there in there first place. But even that doesn't justify murder in the war zone. And nice try I saw all the videos there was to see on the murdering cowards that killed unarmed Iraqis and shot at children in a van. I saw it like other folks saw it.

Only an inhumane waste of a human being would deny that killing innocent human beings is wrong!

Injustice and inequality, immorality and amorality's time is coming to an end, only the reactionary and the backward are still trying to hold on to this dying ship. And it is dying it will yield, History is on the side of justice and the arc does indeed bend toward it!

@Field excellent post! And you were exactly right when you said:

Even the so called progressives in this country still align themselves with one politrickster or another. But it's the same old run around. It just feel a little better because the guy screwing you happened to buy you a drink, first."

Or, better yet, even if they do get to Washington; what they do when they get there wont even matter"

You are right indeed it is Third Party time. A real third party that supports the rights of all citizens and brings the troops home and cuts the defense budget and encourages a planned economy, with health care for all (same as all the other developed countries in the world)

The US working class and so-called middle class have got to stop pretending that they have something in common with the rulers. Of course we have to give up our materialism and consurmerism and some of us our racism because it has made us easy to compromise.

Just think the US is occupying two countries and there is little said until a helicopter crashes killing a few dozen of ours. Yet the US has orchestrated the deaths of hundreds of thousands, thats right hundreds of thousands. you can look it up!

ROXBURY, Mass. -- According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, women now account for more than 1 in 4 of all new HIV/AIDS cases in the state.
Of them, more than half are African-American women, and black women are 38 times more likely to contract the disease than white women.
"It's certainly an epidemic," said Dr. Bela Bashar, clinical director of HIV services at The Dimock Center in Roxbury, Mass. "It is one of the leading causes of death in African-American women."
"I was in a steady relationship. We were using protection, and one day, in a heated discussion, you know, he yells out, 'That's why I'm HIV positive!'" said Chevelle, who wanted her last name withheld.
That bombshell shocked her system, and led to her own diagnosis.
"How long to do I have?" she had asked at the time. "Who's going to look after my kids? What are people going to think?"

In releasing new HIV incidence data on Wednesday, CDC stated that the "alarming increase among young black gay and bisexual men requires urgent action." The statistics show that blacks represent just 14 percent of the US population but accounted for 44 percent of new HIV infections in 2009. Among young black men who have sex with men, new HIV infections rose by 48 percent from 2006 to 2009.

Almost half of all new jobs created in June were in Wisconsin.”

Well, if this is an example of the alleged “facts” that you claim to have been tormenting Liberals with since 1982, I suggest that you have been deluding yourself for 29 years, because this claim is demonstrable nonsense.

Firstly the job statistics nationally and by State are compiled in a completely different way, and your bureau of labor statistics specifically warns against conflating the two.

Secondly the figure of 18.500 is not an overall figure of jobs created nationally in the USA, it is a NET figure of jobs gained. This net figure is unusually low this month because there were many jobs lost due to bad weather – most notably Tennessee lost 16,900 jobs, Missouri shed 15,700 jobs, and Virginia had a loss of 14,600 jobs.

In fact according to the U.S. Labor Department, five states added more net jobs last month than Wisconsin did -- Texas (32,000 jobs), California (28,800), Michigan (18,000), Minnesota (13,200) and Massachusetts (10,400).

This is why Walker is now busily trying to distance himself from these ludicrous claims…

"We made it very clear at our announcement that (our number) was not half of all the jobs out there, though it is an interesting parallel," he said in a speech in Warsaw, Wi.

Some things never change because they're using the same old BS that they used back in the 1700, 1800, and early 1900s to justify their hatred and dirty low down deeds done to blacks. First the bigots used religion, then it was medical and scientific theories, and afterwards it was politics as an excuse, but what it all boiled down to was the ECONOMY and selfishness.

Field, what the people need is a poor people's movement because the poor population has grown in leaps and bounds. If every poor person in America donated a dollar, it would be enough money to have a movement because there are more poor people than rich folks. The mega churches discovered that secret a long time ago and have been able to live like Kings.

Columbia County Republican Party chair Amber Hahn resigned on Friday after drunkenly crashing a car carrying herself and her three children, according to The Wisconsin State Journal.

Hahn, 35, crashed her car Thursday night while driving drunk. No other vehicles were involved and fortunately no one was injured. Police were summoned by the car's On-Star call system.

Jane Kohlwey, the Columbia County District Attorney, also a Republican, has requested that a special prosecutor from neighboring Dane county handle the case. Ms. Hahn, a Poynette School Board Member and volunteer firefighter said in her resignation statement, "It is clear to me now that I have lost focus and I am trying to do too much. I have an addiction to alcohol and need to address it."

UPDATE: Ms. Hahn is also the GOP official who appeared on Fox News last February masquerading as an "upset Wisconsin parent" weighing in on the issue of public school teachers teaching union history in the classroom. Neither Ms. Hahn nor the hosts and producers of "Fox and Friends" felt the need to disclose that Hahn was a Republican activist and local GOP chair.

Beware of Americans bearing gifts, guns, and an AFRICOM patch; their embrace can turn fatal. “One minute, Gadhafi was America’s best friend in northern Africa and in the next minute he was an evil menace.” The turnabout can be sudden. “Robert Mugabe too has been romanced by imperialism and then jilted.” The results were highly inflationary, and may yet bring unwanted intrusions.

One short month before the first U.S. attacks on Libya, President Obama requested that Congress increase U.S. aid to Libya’s military to $1.7 million. Then, with blinding speed, the U.S. launched its war against that country, and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton made the following dubious if not baseless accusations:

“We have seen Colonel Gadhafi’s security forces open fire on peaceful protesters. They have used heavy weapons on unarmed civilians. Mercenaries and thugs have been turned loose to attack demonstrators. The result of these human rights abuses is that they have lost the legitimacy to govern.”

What happened? One minute, Gadhafi was America’s best friend in northern Africa and in the next minute he was an evil menace. Various analysts have suggested that the causes for this radical change are rooted in everything from Libya’s oil to Gadhafi’s call for a united Africa to the Libyan leader’s proposals for changing Africa’s currency. The precise reasons are less significant than the fact that when it comes to fickle friends, the U.S. has no peer, and this should give pause to any African country considering a relationship with AFRICOM.

After an exhausting weekend Doing nothing and facing the first financial downgrade for the U.S and the associated economic fallout what does our elected leader do? Oh, yeah schedule to more fundraisers. Wait didnt he party and fundraise lastweek as well? Is this the type of self interest we need from a leader at this point? All he seems to care about is fundraising and campaigning all while using our money to do it.

The Presidential Planner: Obama Spends Monday Behind Closed-Doors

    August 08, 2011 8:01 AM

ABC News’ Mary Bruce (@marykbruce) reports:

President Obama will spend today in closed-door meetings at the White House, no doubt tackling the fallout from Standard & Poor’s decision Friday to downgrade the nation’s credit.

After spending a low-key weekend at Camp David, the only item on the president’s schedule this morning is his daily briefing in the Oval Office.

Tonight the president will attend two off-camera DNC fundraisers in Washington, D.C. Obama will speak at a private residence first, before heading to an event at the St. Regis hotel.

How to waste $100 Million. The only solution is to kill the Islamists. They are the problem:

US set to announce $100M in Somalia famine funding

    By JASON STRAZIUSO
    Associated Press

DADAAB, Kenya (AP) -- Hundreds of thousands of Somali children could die in the country's famine unless more help arrives, a top U.S. official said Monday as Washington prepared to announce $100 million in new famine aid.

To highlight the crisis, the wife of Vice President Joe Biden visited a refugee camp on a patch of desert in eastern Kenya where tens of thousands of Somalis have massed. A drought has turned into famine because little aid can reach militant-controlled south-central Somalia.

Jill Biden is the highest-profile U.S. visitor to East Africa since the number of refugees coming across the Somali border dramatically increased in July. Biden arrived in a C-130 military transport plane and said she wants to raise awareness and persuade donors to give more.

"What I'm asking is for Americans to reach out and help because the situation is dire," said Biden, who met with two Somali mothers and their eight children. "There is hope if people start to pay attention to this."

More than 29,000 children under the age of 5 have died in the last 90 days in southern Somalia alone, according to U.S. estimates. The U.N. says 640,000 Somali children are acutely malnourished, suggesting the death toll of small children will rise.

USAID administrator Raj Shah, who accompanied Biden, said hundreds of thousands of children could die from the famine.

U.S. officials said Washington is set to announce an aid package of about $100 million for famine relief efforts. The officials could not be quoted by name ahead of a formal announcement.

More than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa are in need of immediate food aid, including nearly half of Somalia's population. The U.N. has declared five famine zones in Somalia, including the camps for displaced people in Mogadishu, the capital.

Aid is only reaching about 20 percent of the 2.6 million Somalis who need it, Mark Bowden, the U.N.'s top humanitarian official for Somalia, said on a visit to Mogadishu on Monday. The situation is better in the Somali capital, where about half the city's 600,000 inhabitants are receiving aid, he said.

Transport and security are the two main problems, he said, and it is unclear what the effect will be of the withdrawal of Islamist insurgents from their bases in the capital on Saturday.

There have been several serious gunfights at aid distributions recently, and at least 10 people have been killed.

"Secretary Geithner has let the president know that he plans to stay on in his position at Treasury," a Treasury spokeswoman said in a statement.

Print Geithner plans to stay at least into the fall of 2012, an administration official told CNN.

Aawwwwww, thank you for caring! Now see that's nice! I like that!

As for me, I've been without internet service since yesterdy until just now! It was raining in Macondo, and everything collapses:D

I don't always comment because I'm not that savvy on politics and I don't live in the USA.

Although USA politics invariably affect it's possessions, of which Macondo(AKA P.R.)is one, we have been feeling that pinch for a while now, and the government says it's going to get worse! :(
Of course, there's always money for what they want. ;)

At the moment, and this concerns me greatly because my life depends on it, the health insurance plan which is subscribed to by thousands is collapsed, so that gives you an idea. Over here we pray to God and hope for the best!

Obama Administration Exempting Schools From Federal Law’s Testing Mandate

    Monday, August 08, 2011

By DONNA GORDON BLANKINSHIP, Associated Press

(AP) - State and local education officials have been begging the federal government for relief from student testing mandates in the federal No Child Left Behind law, but school starts soon and Congress still hasn't answered the call.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan says he will announce a new waiver system Monday to give schools a break.

The plan to offer waivers to all 50 states, as long as they meet other school reform requirements, comes at the request of President Barack Obama, Duncan said. More details on the waivers will come in September, he said.

The goal of the No Child Left Behind law is to have every student proficient in math and reading by 2014.

States have been required to bring more students up to the math and reading standards each year, based on tests that usually take place each spring.

The step-by-step ramping up of the 9-year-old law has caused heartburn in states and most school districts, because more and more schools are labeled as failures as too few of their students meet testing goals.
    .

Yeah. This is great. Now the black and hispanic kids are home free. No more tests.

Many Americans will face hard times for a long time to come.

    ***

Geithner says will be some time before many people feel like the country is recovering.

Geithner tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that it's a very tough economy. He says that for a lot of people "it's going to feel very hard, harder than anything they've experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come."

Of course, Geithner is a large part of the reason that it will be so hard.

As I pointed out in May:

Geithner has been a big part of the problem.

He's previously said that his job as head of the New York Fed wasn't as a regulator, even though one of the Fed's core jobs is to regulate. As Dylan Ratigan writes:

In Geithner's own words during confirmation hearings in March: "First of all, I've never been a regulator...I'm not a regulator." According to the New York fed bank's Web site, that was your job!!

Quoting from the Fed's website: "As part of our core mission, we supervise and regulate financial institutions in the Second District." That district of course is the epicenter for bailed out banks and billion dollar bonuses.

Barack Obama’s presence in the White House is bad for Black people’s mental health. Even as the African American economic condition deteriorates by the day, Blacks perceive a world in which their prospects are improving. Something did change for the better for Black people in 2009. The problem is, it only happened in their minds.

What happened between 2007 and 2009, besides the worst recession since the Great Depression, with Black unemployment projected to hit 17.2 percent by the third quarter of 2010? Obama happened.
“Any rational five-year assessment offered in November of 2009 would have been as gloomy as the numbers.”
Obama-induced chemical imbalances messed up Black people’s minds regarding the gap between Black and white incomes. Asked if the racial gap had grown smaller in the last ten years, 56 percent said “yes” in 2009, compared to 41 percent in 2007. In fact, the racial wage gap had grown significantly. In 2000, Black households made 64.8 cents for every dollar made by whites. By 2008 Black households had slipped three cents, to 61.8 cents on the white dollar – approximately the same size gap as existed in 1989 and 1979. Blacks are worse off, income-wise, than ten years ago, and except for a brief uptick in Black household income during the Clinton bubble-boom of the Nineties, the Black-white earnings gap has remained virtually unchanged for the past 30 years.
ObamaL'aid is a mind-altering substance, a hallucinogen. It makes Black people see progress when they are actually facing disaster. Obama-on-the-brain also behaves like an opiate, blocking out pain. African Americans’ ability to apprehend political and economic danger is compromised by Obama-induced delusion, while the opiate effect prevents Blacks from knowing where and how badly they have been hurt. That’s a fatal combination

On Friday S&P Downgrades U.S. Credit Rating Over Debt Crisis —

Sunday: Obama Calls For More Federal Spending To Create Jobs…

I think this man is either stupid or intent on destroying the U.S.
The stock market is plummeting, Fannie and Freddie Credit Status got downgraded (that should have happend years ago and would have offset the entire recession and current mess)

and now he is going to say what, he wants to borrow more money to throw after two already proven and undeniable failed stimulus's, right after our credit is downgraded because we have unamanagble debt? No he wants to keep paying for his friends so he can keep thier vote into 2012 damn the torpedoes and total destruction of the US Economy.

I hope the media finally does its job and asks questions, they are in the same sinking ship we all are and helping this man keep drilling holes in the boat is insane.

We can once again reach out and deliver aid while we got shot at for it, and temporarily help things. But many of those 29,000 children will grow up to be terrorists, and they will have 234,000 children that will be starving in 20 years, and so on, and so on.

(The Hill) — The nation could lose its top credit rating from yet another rater over the next year if policymakers lose their grip on fiscal discipline, Moody’s Investors Service said Monday.

As financial markets struggled to digest the unprecedented downgrade of the U.S. credit rating by Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s issued a new report making clear that just because it still has America at a AAA grade, that status was far from a sure thing. In fact, Moody’s could also issue a downgrade before 2013 if the nation’s economy worsens or lawmakers lose their focus on getting the nation’s finances in order.

The firm said it would “closely monitor” progress in Washington when weighing the nation’s rating.

Moody’s quickly confirmed the nation’s top rating on the same day a deal was passed to raise the debt limit, but assigned a negative outlook to it in recognition of continued uncertainty about the reality of the government’s efforts to tackle its burgeoning debt. The third major rater, Fitch Ratings, similarly confirmed the top rating on that day.

and only broke racist hobama nazi balck mongrels refuse to see that glaring fact!!!

Black activists Dr. Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are planning a 15-city “Poverty Tour” to bring attention to the needy and to what they say are the failings of President Barack Obama.

West, a Princeton University professor, and Smiley, host of a TV talk show, expect to begin the bus trip Aug. 5 at a Native American reservation in Wisconsin. With visits to soup kitchens, housing projects, farms, families and low-wage workers, they say they hope to create momentum for large-scale job creation programs and put poverty on the 2012 election agenda.

Smiley said that as budgets are cut in Washington, “poor people are being rendered invisible.” Obama and Congress must pay more attention, he said.

“It's not just about the president,” Smiley said. “Having said this, it would be nice to hear the president say the word ‘poor.’ To say the word ‘poverty.’ We get conversations about the middle class. Well, the new poor are the former middle class. But we can't get this president or any leaders to say the words ‘poor’ or ‘poverty,’ much less do anything about it.”

In 2008, the huge turnout of Black voters was crucial to Obama's election. There is no indication that they are abandoning him now, and polls do not offer evidence that dissatisfaction is growing.

In the Amsterdam News, a Black newspaper in New York City, columnist Jonathan Hicks recently wrote of an “undeniable schism ... within the minds and hearts of many African-Americans.”

“There is a deep sense of pride in the historic accomplishment of Obama's presidency, and a recognition that it remains, to many, nothing short of a miracle. More than anything, we want him to succeed. Yet, there are aspects to his presidency that cause us to pause,” Hicks wrote. “There is little rhetoric from Obama — let alone action — that is aimed at alleviating the stubborn, unrelenting crisis of unemployment.”

Barack Obama must bear direct responsibility for the relative Black decline, both as candidate and president. As election year 2008 began, Obama took the most pro-banker, laissez faire capitalist position on home foreclosures of the three major Democratic presidential candidates. John Edwards backed a mandatory moratorium on foreclosures and a freeze on interest rates, while Hillary Clinton supported a “voluntary” halt and $30 billion in federal aid to homeowners. But Obama opposed any moratorium, mandatory or voluntary, and balked at cash for homeowners and stricken communities. As president, his program to stem the flow of foreclosures has been pitiful, near worthless in slowing the spiral that has taken down much of what once considered itself the Black middle class.

Where previous Democratic administrations have treated Black communities with benign neglect, Obama’s policy is best described as depraved indifference.

Having collaborated in two recent major budget agreements with the Republicans that have already wiped out much of the life supports that made a dignified Black existence barely possible, and with more fiscal massacres to come, Obama characterizes his current posture as “Winning the Future.” That future holds nothing but further pain and decline for Black America. His budgetary formula includes only $1 in closed corporate loopholes and higher taxes on the rich, for every $3 he slices from federal spending, most of it from education, health and other social programs. Then, like a cat scratching in kitty-litter, Obama tries to hide his actual deeds with a wonderfully crafted but totally fabulist speech: “We will all need to make sacrifices,” he said, without quantifying what was being sacrificed by whom. “But we do not have to sacrifice the America we believe in.”

OK, back to today's "teach Alicia Banks reading comprehension" lesson of the day. What did I say was wrong? I didn't say that Obama was above reproach. There legitimate criticism of the Presidency for sure. 3 wars, Bradley Manning (though I'm on the fence about that dude) and putting flimsy cuffs on Wall Street 'banksters' as you would call them are a few.

But my point (which, as usual, goes well over your head) is that a myopic politic POV that all problems rest on Obama when Congress writes laws and pass budgets shows how little you understand about, well, anything.

Smiley and his band of merry motor mouths have been gathering since I was in high school, running their mouths and doing, well, nothing. (Kind of hard to fight the power when Wells Fargo and Walmart are signing your checks, but I digress.) Then comes along your secret man crush, Obama, and its put up or shut up time for Black leadership.

If anything, Obama's accession exposed how weak the Left really is. Do you think right wingers would squander having a President so blantantly aligned with their overall interests and not provide any real back up in Washington. Oh wait, we had Reagan and baby Bush in the White House, and a GOP congress - they wouldn't and they didn't.

Liberals, OTOH, cry in their milk because Obama isn't Che Gueverra. And we have no plan to change that.

It'll take a while for House Democrats to get over the bitter taste of the "Satan sandwich," also known as the law passed Tuesday to raise the federal debt ceiling.
They have spent much of Tuesday afternoon explaining why just as many of them voted against the bill as for it. Among the most strident are members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the majority of whom ignored the pleas of party leaders—including President Obama—and voted 'no.'
While caucus members acknowledge the bill was necessary to avert a government default, they decided to make a symbolic point.
"The Congressional Black Caucus has always opposed default on the debt ceiling and the catastrophic effect it would have on communities of color and on our country. The bill that was put before the Congress, by making no pretense at balance, harms our community. Many CBC members therefore felt compelled to vote no on the bill," CBC Chairman Emmanuel Cleaver (D-MO) said in a statement.

The bill finally passed the House on a 269-161 vote, with 174 Republicans and 95 Democrats in support. The nays broke down to 66 Republicans and 95 Democrats—the same number that voted for the measure.
Among the 40 black caucus members, 16 voted 'aye' and 24 'nay'.
Black lawmakers who, along with their constituencies, are among the most loyal supports of Obama, also have been highly critical of the president for his role in the negotiations with congressional Republicans.
They blame him for a series of retreats that put safety net and other social programs on the table for cuts. Many of them complain Obama ceded too much ground from the start by agreeing to tie budget cuts to a debt-ceiling lift.
Cleaver, an ordained minister, tweeted on Monday that the legislation is a "sugar-coated Satan sandwich. If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see." The tweet quickly went viral, summing up Democrats' frustration with the bill.
During the House vote on Monday, Republicans lacked the votes among their members and had to ask the Democrats to help. Many Democrats were not obliging at first.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reluctantly swallowed her own misgivings (she expanded on Cleaver's metaphor, saying the bill comes with a side of "Satan fries") at one point, imploring her likewise unhappy caucus, "Please, please, please come down in favor of, again, preventing the collateral damage from reaching our seniors and our veterans."
In a Monday conference call hosted by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a Washington think tank, black caucus member Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA), said the true "pain" will come in September, when lawmakers begin drafting an appropriations bill for the new fiscal year that will identify which areas of the budget will actually be slashed.
"Low-income heating assistance, community health centers, Pell Grants, Head Start... we expect those programs to be first on the chopping block," Scott said.
Scott pivoted to Obama's handling of the negotiations, adding that they set a politically dangerous precedent that Republicans likely will exploit in the next phase of budget deliberations.
"Since they did so well in this deal, there is an unfortunate expectation they will be emboldened to do it again," he said. "Emboldened to shut down the government on Sept. 30 when they don't have an appropriations bill."

Cute, except those guys had a chance to pass a debt ceiling last fall and force the Republicans to an up or down vote. The Dems in the House didn't, Pelosi and Reid (along with the CBC, who are almost all in safe seats) were too worried about the midterms. So, they punted the debt ceiling, allowing the Tea Party to hold and run the clock down, ultimately forcing a either a crappy deal or default.

And your precious CBC sat on its hands for over 15 years over the fight for Black farmers.

Also, why wasn't the CBC and the Progressive Caucus pumping their own budget plan, oh, last year? Obama's supposed to run around and do that for them?

Again, for the 1000th time, Obama is a symptom and not the root cause of the anemic and dysfunctional Left. So stop worrying about him and worry about moving to a new progressive conversation.

I don’t care if the responsibility for Washington’s political apathy falls on Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama, the CBC or the pet chicken in the front yard. All I know is that I just talked the daughter of a formerly incarcerated man who told me that none of his five children graduated from high school because their father was not there to guide them. I am not sure why any black person on the planet would have any incentive whatsoever to vehemently support an administration with a black male attorney general who has not lifted a finger to reform a justice system that is undeniably racist.

So, perhaps those who are quick to implement the “stop snitching on Obama” policy on Cornel West should stop trying to counter his argument by telling West to remain silent. Instead, he should be silenced with relevant and meaningful action on the part of the Obama Administration. Spinning, twisting and reshaping the conversation means nothing when black unemployment continues to rise, mass incarceration decimates our people and our children are not being educated. You can either get angry at someone for calling you fat, or you can take your fat butt to the gym. Unfortunately, it’s easier for Washington types and elitist liberals to use political double-speak than it is for them to point to concrete evidence that working and middle class black people (the bulk of whom experience rampant and unregulated discrimination in the workplace) have a reason to be excited about the next election. Whether they should reject President Obama vs. his Republican counterparts is debatable; but whether they should reject all of Washington is undeniable.

The bottom line is simple: Giving black folks a choice between stale bread and horse manure is not going to make them want to eat at your restaurant. It’s time for some political courage and action, instead of asking us to submit to a system that clearly isn’t working. Whether one agrees with Cornel West or not, he must ultimately be given credit for guiding the conversation back to poor, black and brown people. Attacking West for pointing out the obvious is nothing more than a counter-productive distraction.

    CNN BREAKING NEWS:

"President Barack Obama presented a reassuring assessment of the U.S. economic situation Monday, calling the country's problems "imminently solvable."
Obama spoke as the Dow continued its day-long slide, falling below 11,000 at one point for the first time since November.
"No matter what some agency may say, we've always been and always will be a triple-A country," Obama said.
Investors are reacting to Friday's downgrade of the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA+ by Standard & Poor's. S&P on Monday downgraded mortgage lenders Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae."

UPDATE. In the spirit of Shared Sacrifice, commenter EndoftheWorld asks, "Could you imaging the uproar we started seeing serious cuts in the sanctimonious blowhard industry? I mean, do we need a Cokie Roberts AND a Peggy Noonan? And paying a Mexican child to cut and paste from AEI position papers has to be cheaper than keeping Krauthammer around." Well, now you're just talking crazy. If it weren't for the promise of such sinecures, young Republican weasels might avoid the think tanks and talk shops altogether, and take jobs as corporate lawyers or confidence men. Then America might lose its leadership position in the global bullpoo market. We'd be lost!

While I am normally in perfect sync with Halloween Jack, I can't completely agree that this column represents "Megan McArdle... forced into a sudden attack of sanity." McArdle does see that the GOP shake-yer-foundations approach has been bad for the weakened economy, but then she has to spoil it by saying the Democrats are just as bad because... they blocked the elevation of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court in 1987. This absurd example of on-the-other-handism has been well-treated elsewhere, but it always bears repeating that Bork is a dangerous lunatic and if he were on the Court with the current crop of nuts, rightwing activists would no doubt have found a way to reverse Virginia v. Loving by now. For blocking him, the Dems of '87 don't deserve tongue-lashings about "X" -- they deserve statues hard by the Jefferson Memorial and fresh flowers every morning.

It's easier to blame Obama than to look at just how dysfunctional American politics really are right now. You have corporate sponsored village idiots who are willing to bankrupt us to prove an illogical point. You have a 'burn the village to save it' liberal culture that will undermine any small progressive changes because it wasn't big enough. And the rest of the country can barely name the three branches of government.

And BTW, Belafonte pontificating with Goodman on DN! is about as affective as the two of us dueling on this blog. Frankly, who gives a damn? Unless Belafonte's planning to sponsor a rally on the Washington mall, its just some old Black guy finger wagging at government. I can hear that in a barbershop.

A leading African American intellectual has reversed his support for Barack Obama, calling the U.S. president 'a black mascot of Wall street'.
Cornel West, a professor at Princeton University's Center for African American Studies, had previously supported Obama and took part in 65 campaign events during the president's election year.

But in an interview that with the website Truthdig, West attacked the president for not being true to his race and dismissed him as 'a black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats.'

My buddy Stephen has lived there off-and-on his entire life (he was born on White Hart Lane) and he tells me that life is pretty much back to normal. The investigation into the Police shooting is well underway, and people are waiting for the results of that.

Even when things were bad for a few hours on Saturday night, my walking through the streets of Tottenham would not have been a problem. This wasn't a race riot - anarchists are being blamed at the moment. (Though anarchists get blamed for everything these days, it has to be said.)

I'm not saying there aren't racial tensions going on - of course they are, but this was a protest against police violence that got out of hand, rather than a straight-up-and-down race riot. Whether the riot was stoked by anarchists remains to be seen, but probably not even half the rioters were black.

The whole racial dynamic is entirely different here, but trying to explain this subject to a bunch of numbnuts like you guys will (I'm sure) be an entire waste of time.

  174. those sheeple who love hobama love being blind!!!

    shame!!!!!!!
This last is cause, and reinforced effect of an alarming contradiction between a skillfully cultivated public persona and his actual, private thinking about the issues of our era. We have seen proof after proof that Obama the self-proclaimed enlightened progressive is in fact deeply conventional man who instinctively bows to the powerful established interests vested in an America that shuns the liberal philosophy that has legitimated the Democratic Party for a century -- and that provided the foundation for the great post-war era of prosperity and social progress. It is not by happenstance that Barack Obama drew his political inspiration from Ronald Reagan -- the president whose leadership Obama repeatedly has lauded above all other occupants of the White House.

We have had ample evidence of this dismaying truth over the past two-and-a-half years -- and even earlier. We have conveniently overlooked it -- we being Democratic voters, the lax media, and of course the favored interests who encouraged the crackpot right to depict Mr. Obama as a 'socialist' while he so nicely served them. There was the bailout of Wall Street masquerading as salvation of our financial system. There was the hiring of their obedient servants to run the national economy. There were the clandestine deals with 'big Pharma' and the health care industry that made a mockery of the 'reform' legislation. And then there was the egregious giveaway of continued Bush era tax cuts for the super rich in December, for which he received a handful of gruel in return. That last act should have been the conclusive evidence of where the president's heart and mind lie. The true believers among supposed liberals refused to see it. For they have proven true believers in an imagined man who does not exist; true believers of what satisfies their own needs for a hero more than the well-being of those whose cause they claim to serve. All this goes unexamined by mainstream pundits, analysts, experts, political journalists, economic sages, academics

Mr. Obama? He neatly punctuates the return to normalcy by quickly leaving town for some fundraising R&R. Within 48 hours of the dramatic surrender to the Tea Party, and just as its profound consequences are hitting home, he was prowling the moneyed precincts of Chicago and Hollywood on the hunt for big bucks from fat cat contributors. So our celebrity president smilingly mingled with the professional celebrities while a bruised and battered country licked its wounds.

The biggest story is not these unsavory antics but the silence. Democrats in Congress have long seemed to have been struck mute. Harry Reid in the Senate went through the motions of resistance to the sell-out and then blessed the sell-out. Nancy Pelosi promises a last-ditch fight and then passively watches 50% of her minions sign the unconditional surrender. Individual maverick voices are notable for their absence -- the exception is the venerable Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who looks an incongruous throwback to another time for saying what he believes and believing what he says. The others kowtowed obediently to Mr. Obama and lent their dead weight to dragging the country over the cliff. Other Democratic dignitaries secluded themselves on Cape Cod and similar cozy retreats far from the confused and maddened crowd. No one is called to account; no one calls to account.

As used to be said in bygone times, let's tell it like it is -- for better or worse, whether we like it or not.

    Main Street versus Wall Street

Where are Obama's "Main Street appointees"? Namely individuals who respond to the interests of people across America. There are no labor or community leaders on Obama's list for key positions.

The President-elect is appointing the architects of financial deregulation.

Meaningful financial reform cannot be adopted by officials appointed by Wall Street and who act on behalf of Wall Street.

Those who set the financial system ablaze in 1999, have been called back to turn out the fire.

The proposed "solution" to the crisis under the "bailout" is the cause of further economic collapse.

There are no policy solutions on the horizon.

The banking conglomerates call the shots. They decide on the composition of the Obama Cabinet. They also decide on the agenda of the Washington Financial Summit (November 15, 2008) which is slated to lay the groundwork for the establishment of a new "global financial architecture".

The Wall Street blueprint has already been discussed behind closed doors: the hidden agenda is to establish a unipolar international monetary system, dominated by US financial power, which in turn would be protected and secured by US military superiority.

    Neoliberalism with a "Human Face"

There is no indication that Obama will break his ties to his Wall Street sponsors, who largely funded his election campaign.

Goldman Sachs, J. P. Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Bill Gates' Microsoft are among his main campaign contributors.

Warren Buffett, among the the world's richest individuals, not only supported Barak Obama's election campaign, he is a member of his transition team, which plays a key role deciding the composition of Obama's cabinet.

What we are witnessing is continuity.

Obama provides a " human face" to the status quo. This human face serves to mislead Americans on the nature of the economic and political process.

The neoliberal economic reforms remain intact.

The substance of these reforms including the "bailout" of America's largest financial institutions ultimately destroys the real economy, while spearheading entire areas of manufacturing and the services economy into bankruptcy.

You'll be disappointed to know that there's nothing going on in Tottenham, right now.

You far-Right types don't do nuance or subtlety.

From Ryan Lizza’s must-read Bachmann profile in the New Yorker.

While looking over Bachmann’s State Senate campaign Web site, I stumbled upon a list of book recommendations. The third book on the list, which appeared just before the Declaration of Independence and George Washington’s Farewell Address, is a 1997 biography of Robert E. Lee by J. Steven Wilkins.

Wilkins is the leading proponent of the theory that the South was an orthodox Christian nation unjustly attacked by the godless North. This revisionist take on the Civil War, known as the “theological war” thesis, had little resonance outside a small group of Southern historians until the mid-twentieth century, when Rushdoony and others began to popularize it in evangelical circles. In the book, Wilkins condemns “the radical abolitionists of New England” and writes that “most southerners strove to treat their slaves with respect and provide them with a sufficiency of goods for a comfortable, though—by modern standards—spare existence.”

African slaves brought to America, he argues, were essentially lucky: “Africa, like any other pagan country, was permeated by the cruelty and barbarism typical of unbelieving cultures.” [...]

In his chapter on race relations in the antebellum South, Wilkins writes: “Slavery, as it operated in the pervasively Christian society which was the old South, was not an adversarial relationship founded upon racial animosity.”
This book was on her website for three years under “Michele’s Must Read List.” The author, J. Steven Wilkins, was a board member of the League of the South, a Neo-Confederate hate group.
Just more proof that this woman is cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs crazy, and the fact that she’s giving Willard a run for his money tells you everything you need to know about the state of the Republican Party.

Apparently the authorator of the lying-fer-jebus 'book' never drove through New England, New York Pennsylvania, etc.
Godless my goodness! He must have missed the Great Awakening. Or that nearly all abolitionists were quite religious. (unlike antibortionists, who are just jerkholes pretending to religion).
Slaves lived well? Compared to what? Not only do we have the archeological sites...we have the words of former slaves. Seems like the scribbler was enabling the actions of sadists and rapists...and worse.

I don't know why so many on this blog have negative criticisms of Michele Bachmann. I personally think she is beautiful inside and out. She is smart but some of you FN Negroes want to paint her as stupid.

The woman has a law degree like Field, for God's sake! Furthermore, her legal degree is in the tax Field. You have to be extremely bright to be a Tax Lawyer. Field knows this to be true. That's why he is a criminal lawyer. It's less stressful on the brain. Btw, that's where ALL of our folks are clustered, according to my black Uncle on the Right. I bet Jesse L. Peterson and Rev Manning will agree with my uncle.

I continue to ask Field and his little followers to give my girl Michele a break. she is only trying to get our country back...and everyone knows we need a leader who can do that.
