Just reading up again about this dude Robert F. Williams. I remember reading a book about him and the Radio Free Dixie radio station that he ran out of Havana, Cuba back in the day. I was reminded of him after getting an e-mail about an independent film chronicling his life called Negroes with Guns. (h/t to Michael)
Dude was no joke; he was not down with Brother Martin and
the rest of the civil rights establishment talking about peace. He was calling
for Negroes to arm themselves back then. Anyway, how would the NRA feel about Negroes like Robert F. Williams having 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms? I suspect that when it comes to these Negroes arming themselves the folks from the gun lobby would sing a different tune. Of course a lot of Negroes do have guns; it's just that the owners of these guns have no business owning them. These are illegal guns, and the Negroes who own them are killing each other and not taking up arms to protect themselves against social injustice and oppression. They use them to protect their turf, settle petty differences, and enforce rules of street conduct that only they can understand.
I doubt if any of these young bucks wilding out in the streets have ever heard of Robert F. Williams. In fact, I know that they haven't. If you ask them who Robert F. Williams is they would probably tell you that he plays power forward for the Knicks. If Robert F. Williams knew how much guns that Negroes now had but are using them on each other he would be turning in his grave. This is not what men like him fought for when they were literally fighting for their lives.
Now it's folks in the majority population who are calling for more guns, and ironically, it's all because of a fear of those Negroes I talked about with their guns. (The times they were a changin.)
Williams passed away in 1996, and it's hard to imagine that he was once a leader in the NAACP. No disrespect to Ben Jealous and the NAACP, but I suspect that if armed white folks were coming into the hood and killing black folks they would be calling on congress to pass stiffer gun laws and not for Negroes to be arming themselves.
Anyway, we do have armed thugs killing black folks, but sadly, it's other black folks doing the killing. I think Robert F. Williams would have talked about that uncomfortable truth. Sadly, the NAACP will not.
Even though most blacks do not themselves engage in bad behavior, the black community as a whole does not seem to possess the moral will and energy to control the bad apples among them and thus to maintain a civilized order. An outside influence is needed, namely whites, who do possess the moral will and the organizing intelligence to create a decent functioning structure for the blacks. However, we need to recognize that such salutary reforms will remain impossible so long as we continue to embrace the liberal myths that inexorably lead us to blame whites and thus excuse blacks for their own misbehaviors and failures.
ReplyDeleteWith the new Obama campaign iPhone app, I can see who exactly in my neighborhood has their address (for whatever reason) registered with the Obama campaign. And I think it is important to let these people know exactly what has happened to this information. Call it “transparency”.
ReplyDeleteStep 1
Download President Obama’s campaign iPhone app.
Step 2
Open app
Step 3
Tap the “Action” tab.
Step 4
Tap “Canvass”
Step 5
Log in or sign up for a new account.
Step 6
Find all the people in your area that the Obama team wants you to visit.
Step 7
Take a picture of the map with their address on it (press the power button and the square button at the same time on your iPhone).
Step 8
Drop that image into this file. The text reads:
“
Hi!
I’m a concerned neighbor.
I got this address from the Obama campaign’s iPhone app. If you’ve ever given money or volunteer information to President Obama, he probably has your name and address. And he has made it publically available for anyone with an iPhone.
Field,
ReplyDeleteBig ups to Shelly Ann Frasier-Pryce for defending her 100 meter title. I'm looking forward to the Mens race tomorrow. AI9 told me he was going to be there for the race. (the way they play today they need to be in the gym).
Anyway Friday on the O'Reilly Factor Juan Williams did the show and they had a segment about Blacks killing Blacks in Chicago. One of the guess was a sista who kept pointing to liberal policies as the cause of this problem. The other guess didn't add too much but the question is this field; what has more to do with urban violence, welfare programs or the fact the Ronald Reagan's Administration flooded the hoods of America with Cocaine to fund his wars back in the day because congress wouldn't do it. This is well documented but no one talks about it.
"Williams passed away in 1996, and it's hard to imagine that he was once a leader in the NAACP. ReplyDeleteField, I am sure you are right. IMO, Ben Jealous is just ineffective as the NAACP has always been. Quite honestly, I am sick and tired of the NAACP. I wish you would do a post about how sorry the NAACP has been and note when it sold its sold back in the 60's along with the CBC.
I mean, it is fucking depressing. Sorry I cursed but the mention of the NAACP can make me curse.
This post you have written is very depressing. You have written so many depressing posts that I wonder why I keep reading this shit.
I am mostly depressed because I don't own a gun and I live in a society where everybody and their grandmother owns a gun and will use at the drop of a hat.
Field, do you own a gun? Is it possible to live in a wild, wild East City of Brotherly Love without a gun? I don't think so. I bet you have four or five guns with a bazooka to boot.
depressed unarmed Negro
I 'heard' that the pilot whose gun accidentally went off in the cockpit was PilotX. The bullet hit one of the instruments called the altitude. PilotX didn't know how high/low he was and damn near flew into the Sears Tower!
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone who can verify IF the pilot was X? Please no lies on brother PilotX. He has enough stress trying to fly those big ass planes while being Black.
It's depressing flying while Black in America. Field, please write about this. Let us know the suffering black pilots experience in the air trying to fly from Wilmington to Philly airport. I believe there are restrictions on how far our brothers can fly. Philly to Wilmington is the maximum number of miles a brotha like PilotX can fly.
ReplyDeleteHowever, they are free to drive great lengths via Greyhound....which is how brotha PilotX gets back to Chicago. This is another episode in how depressing it is to be Black in America.
And Field, stop saying I am not Black. When you do that, it depresses the hell out of me. I need you to lift me up, not fucking tear me down.
depressed Negro
They showed this film about Robert Williams in Chicago the other night and there was an interesting dicussion afterwards. Very pro-NRA crowd who were very interested in arming law abiding citizens. I wonder if they know, or care, about the stances these gun rights groups take on certain issues.
ReplyDelete"It's depressing flying while Black in America. Field, please write about this. Let us know the suffering black pilots experience in the air trying to fly from Wilmington to Philly airport. I believe there are restrictions on how far our brothers can fly."
ReplyDeleteYou are right, there are limits to where Pilot X can fly but it isn't distance it's altitude. Due to Pilot X being a Fish head he can not go any higher than 35,000 Feet, as his lips will attract pigeons at 36,000 Feet and explode and make a mighty mess at 40,000.
Pilot was awfully depressed that affirmative action hadn't lowered the requirements for him to become an Astronaut but got saved from a lippingly explosive death if he won his discrimination lawsuit when Obama just canceled NASA - that stuff was for white folk anyway and we can use the money for some light bills.
Although Pilot's discrimination suit against NASA had been dropped he is expected to win another pending lawsuit against his mama, where he is suing her because she used to wet his lips and stick him to the wall for hours while she had house parties, causing him to talk to this day with a gay rasping lisp when he says words like fabulous and the village people.

Harry Reid says it was Pilot X, he heard from a very reliable source that the Pilot of the Aircraft X was in took the plane to 39,000 Feet and Pilots lower lip popped. Luckily he dropped quickly before Pilot x's lips exploded, this is probably why it looked like it was going to hit the sears tower.
Harry said the reliable source said a little crazy glue and just keeping his lips clean and Pilot will be fine, of course he is going to wear a wide brimmed hat to keep the pigeon shit off his lips while he heals and will not be driving his gremlin convertible so his lips dont flap in the wind and break open the scabs.
Ah, Field old friend. Your blog is a wonderful place, where people come to talk about anything OTHER than the point of your post.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I remember hearing about Williams in history class. If we want our kids to feel the same way, they're going to have to hear about it from their grandparents- assuming they remember themselves. It was the 60s and 70s after all. Lots of drinking.
Anyway, you spend a lot of time talking about violence in communities. What solution do you propose? How do you propose to go about this solution? What and who are you prepared to sacrifice to make it happen? If the problem is as serious as you make it out to be, how far should a solution go to solve it?
field goes all out. More delusional than ever:
ReplyDeleteAnyway, how would the NRA feel about Negroes like Robert F. Williams having 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms?
But, but, but, the NRA believes that legal gun ownership is available to everyone -- because iegal gun ownership IS available to everyone. Thus, based on your statement, you believe negroes are not counted among "everyone." Or something.
I suspect that when it comes to these Negroes arming themselves the folks from the gun lobby would sing a different tune.
I suspect?
Ah, the opening words of a paranoid who deals not in facts, but in his imagination, his deluded imagination. What makes your paranoid mind conjure up the notion of worry in the minds of whites over people acting according to the law?
Of course a lot of Negroes do have guns; it's just that the owners of these guns have no business owning them.
In other words, the question of what negro gun ownership means is NOT a hypothetical question. It is what the police and grief-stricken black mothers deal with daily.
These are illegal guns, and the Negroes who own them are killing each other...
Illegal guns? No. A gun is a gun. The illegal part is tied to the transaction by which it was acquired and its subsequent possession.
Some PEOPLE acquire guns for criminal purposes. None of this is the fault of the gun itself. But a lot of you clowns do your best to pretend it is, going so far as to pretend that negroes who shoot people are victims, that they have succumbed to the seductive power of having a gun in the hand, that in the end, it's not their fault. The gun made them do it.
...and not taking up arms to protect themselves against social injustice and oppression.
Social injustice? Oppression? Okay. Welcome to Moron-ville. Social injustice? You mean when one black guy shoots another?
Or the injustice suffered by black professional athletes? Or the injustice suffered by black entertainers?
Or the injustice of blacks getting 200 bonus points added to their SAT scores when they apply to college? Or the minority hiring preferences exercised to fill every government job for which there is no requirement of advanced knowledge of science or engineering?
They use them to protect their turf, settle petty differences, and enforce rules of street conduct that only they can understand.
In other words, you know, and whites know what negroes do to get their hands on guns, and further, we all know what negroes do with guns.
Nevertheless, you posed a ridiculous hypothetical question about negro gun ownership as though the law itself were stopping negroes from following it.
AgentX,

We stay stuck in the problem because no one has a solution. The average citizen certainly doesn't. He is too busy protecting himself from a perceived or actual threat.
The actual problem lies in our minds and hearts. Until that is dealt with, no solution is possible. We don't notice that the enemy lies in our minds.
We will have to learn the "hard" way, which is always excruciatingly painful. In this case, it's loss of many lives of love ones. It can't be otherwise. We are dealing with guns that can kill people.

ReplyDeleteMost of the anons here are absolutely fascinated with the supposed "shortcomings" of black Americans. So much so, they've managed to turn it into a sort of spectator sport, with throngs of anons waiting with baited breath for the next Field Negro piece from which they receive their daily allotments of red meat, courtesy of the subject matter from which his posts are derived.
Apparently, scouring news articles under the relative anonymity of Yahoo user names isn't yielding enough red meat for the devoted unreconstructed among us.
Mack. It's "bated" breath.
ReplyDeleteMack, this is true, if only they could actually comprehend what they read it would be a beutiful thing.

Or, white folks.

This highlights the reason problems are not resolved, rather they are shunted, deflected and ultimately blamed on someone noticing the problem, in a fashion that at times is as sarcastic as those pointing the finger.
Clearly the only thing worthy of Mack's scrutiny and comments aren't related to the problem at hand just that perhaps some others are noticing the problem and speaking about it. Thus in the mind of a Mack Lyons the people speaking about it are the real problem and all efforts are directed at them whilst the issue at hand is forgotten. So if only those you approve speak about the problem with the same circle logic of finger pointing with back turning would that solve anything?
Did you ever think Mack, that if the problem were solved or really being tackled in earnest those people would have nothing to hang their "meathooks" into? I know you are used to liberalism where problems are fabricated in order to deflect. but forget about what those not asleep notice, What about the problem? And how in your mind is blaming someone who has absolutely no control, no input and no responsibility to the problem ever going to change a thing?
If those anon's were all about looking for "shortcomings" as you put it, do you really think they need to come to Fields blog to find what they are looking for?

ReplyDeleteLove what Anon@11:34 said. That's a start.
Field, then what is it that lies in the minds and hearts that causes so much violence and depravity? What are they for? What are they against? What has happened to culture, society and the way they live and think that has made it so? Who's philosophies are they taught? what do they believe? What do the leaders/adults teach and how are the young held accountable to standards until they mature?
Look to areas of success for the underlying reasons, look to root cause analysis for the areas to be resolved. But one thing is clear, the finger pointing game has done nothing in 50 years but make things incredibly worse and declining at an even more rapid pace. Why is that? Why are some states/cities nearly crime free while some are bastions of savagery? Why? Why is it that in some small towns and cities you don't even need to worry about locking your front door? While in others just being in the wrong place can cause crime/violence and assault? What do these places do differently? How do they react to crime? What is their acceptance level of levels of tolerance?
If there were no guns, there would be knives, spears, stones, fire... people who have a tendency towards violence will always find a way. So the question is why do some act on the violent impulses they have and how do others overcome them to maintain a civilization?
These are the real questions that need to be answered just to start an honest approach.
If Robert F. Williams had been a white american during the revolution, his face would be on currency and Tbillys would dress up as him. The same could be said for Nat Turner, John Brown, Denmark Vessey, and the thousands of martys to freedom during the holocaust of Transatlantic Slavery whose names are lost to time and the necessity of maintaining the myths of African inferiority and obeisance and white superiority supremacy and benevolence.

Here is the cause of every worsening Black problem, Disengenious White Liberals.
Your saying all this flowery gobbly gook say precisely what about blacks slaughtering each other? Nothing except that there were those who fought against slavery...yeah there was, slavery is over what does that have to do with the subject? The names that you list as lost to time apparantly are not as they are known historically and you use them, than you claim they are forgotten in order propogate a myth about African inferiority/White Superiority? So if these gentlemans names were shouted from the streets daily that would change precisely what? When? How?
If you did not think you as a White liberal were superior to Africans you wouldnt be spouting such inane tripe. But you can't help it, you think you are superior to other Whites and most of all to "Africans" as obviously you can help those poor savages who are not as capable and as wise as you against the Whites who are taking advantage of them.
Scum of the earth; disengenious White Liberals.
