I need to rant a little bit about the latest outrage in American sports: the dissing of Barry Bonds by baseball writers who vote to admit former major league baseball players into the baseball Hall of Fame. (Only three guys who died in the thirties will get in this time.) 36%??!! You have got to be kidding me!
Why, exactly, isn't the greatest baseball player of our generation not a first ballot Hall of Famer? But field, he used steroids, he was a one of the main players in what is being called the "Steroid Era" of baseball.
Oh Please!
I am sick of selective outrage and retroactive moralizing by these clowns who get to vote. (BTW, 36 voters voted to leave Jackie Robinson out of the Hall, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised at what this fraternity of dunces does with the power given to them by baseball.)
Barry Bonds was a great player before the so called "Steroids Era", and when he allegedly started juicing he became superhuman. He would have been a first ballot hall of famer before he allegedly stuck the first Victor Conte needle in his ass. So what's the problem? If everyone else around him was juicing where is the competitive advantage? Do you really believe that Roger Clemens was the only pitcher allegedly juicing at the time? If you do, I have a wonderful antique bell with a slight crack on the side here in Philadelphia to sell you.
Oh, and let's not forget, we idolize a racist who "once slapped a black elevator operator at Cleveland hotel for being "uppity," and when a security guard intervened, he [Cobb] cut the guard with a knife". He paid $100 to settle the case. He also beat up a disabled fan who heckled him from the stands in New York". What a guy. A drunk (Mickey Mantle), and thousands of others- such as Fergie Jenkins- who allegedly popped speed pills before games back in the day.
So now I have to live with these self appointed morality police denying the man who gave me the greatest baseball memories of my lifetime his just due.
Sorry, every voter who left Barry Bonds off of his (or her) Hall of Fame ballot struck out today.
Finally, some folks just don't get it. Americans have every right to love their guns and advocate for their right to bear arms, but do conservative wingnuts really need to be having "Gun Appreciation Day" on January 19th, which just happens to be the day that Americans celebrate MLK Day?
"A conservative coalition has scheduled the first-ever "Gun Appreciation Day," calling on gun activists around the nation to rally in support of the right to bear arms.
Gun Appreciation Day is set for Jan. 19. Gun activists are asked to turn “out en masse at gun stores, ranges and shows from coast to coast" in an effort to rally against President Barack Obama's “post-Sandy Hook assault on gun rights," according to a press release on the group's website.
On 01.19.13 go to your local gun store, gun range or gun show with your Constitution, American flags and your 'Hands Off My Guns' sign to send a loud and clear message to Congress and President Barack Obama," the site's landing page urges visitors.
Said Gun Appreciation Day chairman Larry Ward, according to a press release announcing the planned demonstration, “If the American people don’t fight back now, Obama will do the Second Amendment what he has already done to the First with Obamacare – gut it without a moment’s thought to our basic constitutional rights.”
Gun Appreciation Day is scheduled to be held two days before Inauguration Day, when Obama will be sworn in for his second term as president of the United States. [Source]
Don't say it; I know exactly what the rest of you Negroes are thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe DHS has purchased more than 1.6 billion (B, as in Boy) hollowpoint bullets, weapons, tools of war. That's the DHS, mind you, NOT the Army, Navy etc.
What the hell are these people doing?
I'd suggest ALL people load up on guns, which are YOUR only weapon of SELF-DEFENSE against a gov't which is obviously out of control, and bent on mayhem. 2nd Amend. applies to blacks too.

Barry Bonds deserves to be allowed to cheat because he is black.
ReplyDeleteBlack people are alway not responsible for their misdeeds.
Barry Bonds is a hero!
Field, you expect too much for no ethics and no morals. Bonds took steroids which was against the league's rules. Have you ever heard of good sportsmanship? Well, Barry showed none. He made his bed when he started taking those steroids while he set records.
ReplyDeleteWhat would it say to the nation and to our kids if Bonds ended up in the Hall of Fame for his homers while he was on drugs?
And my brother, don't give me that racist BS. Hell, this is America. Everyone knows Blacks must be above reproach when it comes to such high ranking. NO ONE is going to give some slack for a bm.
Hence, accept the truth, Field: BONDS BLEW IT!! End of story.
Now let's move on to something else.
Yep, fight for the right to carry guns which only kill things but not for the right to a quality education or healthcare which would help us remain competitive and healthy. The world must think we're nuts.
ReplyDeleteMLK day is Jan 21, the same day as Inauguration.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't make "Gun Appreciation Day" any better. Having it two days before the inauguration is bad enough.
"Do you really believe that Roger Clemens was the only pitcher allegedly juicing at the time? If you do, I have a wonderful antique bell with a slight crack on the side here in Philadelphia to sell you."
ReplyDeleteField, none of the players who took steroids who excelled in whatever position they played will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. So, what 's your point? that Barry Bonds should be an exception because he is Black? Pleeeeze!

I am amazed at the hatred and level of racism against us by Whites. But I am even more amazed at the non-responsiveness of the black race. Truly that exemplifies powerlessness.
Dear Mr Field, what does it matter what is done on MLK holiday? To most Americans, including Blacks, it's just a holiday and nothing special. Hell, I bet most of the black youth these days don't even know who MLK was.
ReplyDeleteI get the emotion Field. The HOF & MLB in general can kiss my snotty end until they induct Pete Rose.

Makaii, I will check that for you.
The only reasons Conservatives want guns are to shoot Liberals and Blacks when they have had enough and can no longer abide the Tyranny of Democracy.
ReplyDeleteThe integrity of the game is what's in question here, not someone's personal foibles. Barry's homerun count is illegitimate at least for Aaron's sake alone.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note, if a juiced up white guy was allowed into the hall of fame for largely breaking Aaron's homerun record, you'd be bouncin' off the walls, field.
"And my brother, don't give me that racist BS. Hell, this is America. Everyone knows Blacks must be above reproach when it comes to such high ranking. NO ONE is going to give some slack for a bm."

I agree that in a free society everyone should be allowed to screw up. That is what it means to be human and free: to be allowed to make mistakes. Being human myself, I am in total agreement with that.
However, I also know that there are consequences for my mistakes and I see no reason for BB to be protected from the consequences of his actions simply because he is a great hitter. That is utter folly. Barry is a grown man, an adult who should gladly ACCEPT the consequences (and so should you, Field) of his low-cheating- unfair actions within a great national sport--which is far more important, and BIGGER, than any 'one' player in MLB.
"Oh Please!

Dear Mr Field, have you heard of Lance Armstrong, the greatest cyclist of all-time-and 'what' happened to his position in cycling?
I am not sure but I .. 'think'..he was very White, and they pursued him until they finally got him! And then they stripped him of everything for taking steroids and lying.
However, you are saying they should make an "exception" for the great Barry Bonds because it is 'racist' to prevent him from entering HOF?
Mr. Field, please consider your logic and reasoning. They both seem loaded with racial emotions.
Everybody knows only white boys juice. Barry Bonds' head grew 3 sizes naturally.

ReplyDeletehobama's big new global guns vex me much more!
ie
more proof that no repub has ever been as extreme as hobama
hear that hobama nazis???
it is hobama's global fatal bell ringing
your pay cut and taxes were just the tip of hobama's iceberg
shame!!!!!!!
Four years later, it is impossible not to hear the tolling of the bell. As early as mid-February, the pending debt ceiling impasse will provide another opportunity to take the axe to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Only fools believe that Obama will resist the impulse, since to do so would be to repudiate his entire first term in office. With methodical calculation, Obama laid the groundwork for a grand austerity bargain, beginning with his handpicked Simpson-Bowles Deficit Reduction Commission. The “fiscal cliff” was a trap set jointly by Obama and the GOP in the summer of 2011, after their deal for $4 trillion in cuts foundered on the issue of modest tax increases on the rich. With this month’s agreement to make Bush’s tax cuts permanent for 98 percent of the public, Obama and the Republicans’ positions are closer than ever. All that is required for Obama to achieve his true legacy – to drive a stake in the heart of what’s left of social welfare in the U.S. – is to marginalize hard core Tea Party budget purists and, much more importantly, bludgeon the “left” wing of the Democrats into line, which has always been Obama’s job in the corporate political division of labor.
At his first inauguration, Obama chastised Americans for “our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age." He was making the case for cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, a choice that 80 percent of Americans, and virtually the totality of the Black American polity, reject. But, for Obama, then and now, the popular will is nothing but “worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics." Wall Street’s choices are all that counts.
So, who won the election? And why should Black folks regard the outcome as some kind of collective victory? What bullet did we dodge?

ReplyDeleteThat what is inside the minds of emotionally driven simpletons like Wayne.
B. Bonds; R. Clemons; L. Armstrong and countless others made their beds when they chose to use steroids or any other "performance-enhancing" substance. Thus, automatically disqualifying and exempting them from awards, recognition; certainly not membership in any kind of "Hall of Fame".
ReplyDeleteAny Presidential "Executive Order/Edict" issued by our POTUS re guns/ammo will be hollow; ineffective "smoke" to demonstrate "doing something". The (uniquely American) "genie" of American born/bred violence can never be returned to the bottle. Americans, whether we like it or not, cultivate a pornographic obsession with the entire continuum of violence---blood---gore, period. It will take countless more 9/11s; Columbines; Auroras; Newtowns before anything substantively different emerges in our thinking about ourselves as Americans.
Wayne is also a big fan of child molester Michael Jackson. Wayne has no concept of moral principles, all he can comprehend is 'us vs them', Negore style.

God help it, if it had a brain what could happen.
I am amazed at the stupidity and hatred of racist blacks like you.
How is anyone spitting on MLK's grave?
If anyone is spitting on his grave it is you, who condones hatred and racism yet doesn't even have a clue what MLK stood for, let alone the actual date of his Holiday.
It's the 21st you idiot, not the 19th. You should know that as the Marionette Mulatto in charge specifically scheduled his inauguration to be on the 21st to steal MLK's thunder and take the remembrance and respect due MLK for himself.
It's quite simple. If people wish to repeal the 2nd Amendment and then try to confiscate guns they can do so. I think they might want to look at the 18th amendment to see how outlawing something millions of people want, worked out for the country, but that's just me.

ReplyDeletePlease provide us with the quote where I said it was "racist" to prevent Bonds from getting into the HOF.
Take all the time you need. I will wait........
I'm just curious as to why you seem to think the voters are picking on Bonds alone. They aren't. It's clear at this point that they're not comfortable letting in people who are known steroid users, and that's not limited to Bonds. If you honestly can't understand(not agree necessarily, just understand) why baseball fans aren't comfortable letting cheaters in(note that that is different from issues off the field, like the ones you mentioned)to the hall, maybe you're not as big of a baseball fan as you think you are.

Mickey Mantle happens to be one of my baseball idols when I was a kid in the early 50's. I am black. I do get your point about Mickey and others who had less than acceptable social habits and that didn't lessen their chances for being selected HOF. I feel that HOF should selected players based on what they did on the Field of Play. By those rules, Pete Rose, Sosa, Palmerio, McGuire, and of course Barry Bonds, Piazza, etc., would be in Cooperstown this August of 2013. We did have an era of steroid use in baseball. The league condoned it; therby, giving many players the green light to use them. Not apart of the argument is that the players that use them did so to promote healing to joints and muscles, create strenght in the same to keep them own the field of play. Basbeball is a money sport driven by fan fanaticism. With steriods, you also can inlcude corizone shots, etc. Regarding these great players their stats show that they excelled before the steriod era began. Rafeal Palmeiro always was a top ten 317 hitter with home run power when he came up his rookie season with the Cubs, and later finishing his career at Baltimore. Mark McGurie, was a 40 homer, 40 steals his rookie year, and he maintained the homers but cut down in steals because of bad knees. This holds true for most of these guy including Bonds. About Bonds, it is clear, that many white media types didn't like him because of his personality and his shying away of talking to the media. Years before the steriod scandal, white media types had labelled Bonds a unlikable players because that is what image they were trying to make and apart of it was xenophobic....like just about everything in America generally race is a determinent. Well, clearly the hate for Bonds, and the difficulty in proving he was guilty of steroids just made his "hater's madder, because he was found not guilty. Then, the powers that be put the FBI on him. They got his white girlfriend to tell there secrets as it related to steriods; even then, Bonds just was charged with a small lie. He wasn't sure if all his trainer gave him that something may have been steriods. They even put his trainer in prison. Come on man, we know what this is in America. It is called selective prosecution. Lee Smith is one of the top closers in baseball with perhaps Rollie Fingers, Bruce Sutter ahead of him; yet, he didn't make the first ballot or get selected. These old and young white guys writers go by consensus, and stick to their guns: right or wrong. If they keep this up the greats outside HOF, may be more than the ones in. And I'm sick of guys like Morgan, Gossage, Bench being so holler that God in criticising them. The selection process should be revised and include: writers, coaches, fans, people of color, and HOF's, and not just a group of "arm chair" lovers of the game who have their pent up biases and the solidarity of race.
ReplyDeleteField Nigger, listen up: No one gives a shit about your precious memories -- most of which were crack-induced anyway. We kept Barry Steroids out this year, and we're going to keep him out forever. Period. So get used to it.
ReplyDeleteU know sumtin, white racism has always limited the rights of non-whites in this country. This white racism is the reason Bonds was not selected to the Hall on the first ballot. It is the reason Lee Smith did not get selected. It is the reason Lovie Smith can't find a job and the reason he got fired with a winning record for the Bears. It is the reason Dusty Baker got fired from the Cubs even though he took this sorry Cub team to one out from the world series, a place they haven't seen since 1908. The hate against Obama his first 4 years in office, the hate spewing from Fox News and right winger/tea party...The hate groups in American that have tripled since Obama has been president; they are the ones buying all those AK 47, grenades, and having war games in the forest of America. Sosa, Palmerio should be in the HOF. These same white boy writers act as if they are so godly, just like Sandusky and the priest, they all act holy but when you follow them home and uncover their life you see how big a hypocrite they all are. There is no way in hell: Rose, Bonds, Palmero, Lee Smith, McGuire, Piazza, Clemens(7 cy award winner), Sosa, Bizzio, should not be in the HOF. The years they were accusing Bonds he still was hitting massive home runs and leading the league in may stats. Steroids does not help one see a curve or fast ball better, and strenght doesn't make one hit home runs are pitch better or throw a faster fastball or better curve ball. For all you dummies steriods are chiefly used by players for the healing of joints, muscle aches and pains, and the promotion of injuries. This was the primary reason steriods were introduced and used. Same thing with Cortisone shots. How can you deny these players when the League itself condone the use of many steriods and not until pressure from congress because a player died did steriod get banned and testing became mandatory. Whether the HOF let these guys in they still are the greatest players of all time. Babe Ruth was a womanizer and alcoholic, Mantle the same, most gambled and betted on sports and they are all in the HOF. The only perfect players in the HOF are Lou Gehrig, and the Baltimore Oriole guy that broke his record of the most games played
ReplyDeleteOn the all time baseball Save List of 50 players you have 1.Mariano Rivera with 608(active), 2.Trevor Hoffman 601, not elgible for HOF yet; 3 Lee Smith, 478; 4.,John Franco had 474 Saves he's in the HOF; 5 Dennis Eckersly 390 HOF; Hoyt Whilhelm ranked 36 with 227 in the HOF; Bruce Sutter ranked 22 with 300 Saves; Goose Goosage, ranked 19 on the list with 310 saves. Is this a HOF based on Stats? Or, is it based on favoritism or any other biases. Out of the top 50 players with the most saves, Lee Smith is ranked # 3 on the list, yet he has failed at least 3/4 times to get the required votes. Lee Smith replaced the great Sutter on the Cubs roster when Sutter went to the Cardinals. Later, Smith went to the Cardinals when Sutter retired. Just like Ryne Sandberg played for the lowly Cubs and sneaked in the HOF as a 2nd baseman, Lee Smith should not have had to sneak in; he leads the whole gd pack of Save leaders. This is the crap I'm refering too. The BS the writer's put some players through. And they played with Ron Santo. Santo wasn't great great, but he ranked in the top five in all time players at that position, so why did they play with this man's and his families life knowing he had life threatening diabetes and he had the numbers...Santo was not popular with some of these cigar smoking white writers. Eddie Matthews, The Phillies great third baseman, Baltimore's great defensive third baseman and then Santo.
ReplyDeleteAnonn. those were some great points about Lee Smith.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one, Field. A prize athlete's decision to use steroids is of no greater moral import than a stripper's decision to get breast implants, and each decision is made for the same reasons. Barry Bonds was the greatest stripper of his generation.
ReplyDelete
