Nello is an organic Italian restaurant with pasta dishes that top off at $275 a plate. Its patrons reportedly include rapper and businessman Jay-Z and baseball player Alex Rodriguez. And apparently, its newest patrons also include O’Mara and West, with O’Mara telling TMZ casually, “It [the food] was good. It was great. This [restaurant] is one of the best. I am coming back.”
And of course, when O’Mara was asked about the outcome of the Zimmerman case, he responded, “He [George Zimmerman] was innocent from Day 1. I’m just glad the jury saw that.” [Source]

I am thinking that something is seriously wrong with the American justice system if Marissa Alexander can be serving a 20 year sentence for standing her ground in Florida--- by shooting a gun in the air to protect herself from her "abusive husband"--- and George Zimmerman can walk free.
Finally, I am thinking that if the republican candidate has his way, Virginia will no longer be for lovers:

I have noticed over the last week or so that a noticeable percentage of the group of the people who disagree with Zimmerman being acquitted.seem to be arguing from a perspective which views physical violence as acceptable or even desirable unless a weapon is involved. I have begun to consistently see variations of this viewpoint in enough places to see it as a body of thought on this subject. Usually, it features the ideas:

Actually, I learned something from the doctor from watching the video: The reason so many bw have such large protruding butts is because of the overt curvature of the lower spine which comes from poor stature at young ages. We really ought to improve the way we stand and sleep. I bet a firm mattress would help immensely.

Mr Field, I am not a Conservative but I do agree with Ken Cuccinelli. We need to become morally and ethically responsible according to the Good Book. Otherwise, things are going to get a lot worse in America.
All of this oral sex and nasty-ass filthy anal sex that can cause deadly diseases has got to stop. There is no better way to do this than bring back laws that bring about purity of heart, soul and mind. I wish Mr Cuccinelli well because as Virginia goes, so goes the rest of the South.

You heard the word innocent and some of it's variations thrown around in the courtroom and in the media, but you never heard o'mara say his client was innocent.
Man, Larry Elder has never been big on facts. I had to check him a few years back about something he wrote in his book. He wrote that nobody would want the pilot of their 747 to be prefrentially hired because of the color of their skin but the funny thing was a lot of 747 guys at my airline were just such hires. I pointed out that in the 60's we hired a bunch of 20 somethings and even paid for their training because most were unqualified. Interestingly enough Larry was unaware of this and actually tried to use the opposite to make his point. Conservatives are usually devoid of facts and uncle Larry is just one more example.

After reading PilotX here, I would never fly on a plane with a black pilot, unless there was a non-affirmative action hire along with him to tell him what to do. At least with a white pilot, I know he wasn't a 'diversity' hire.

Obviously the jury believed the husband. Not a good contrast with the Zimmerman verdict, which doesn't need any help.

ReplyDeleteWe fought to have Zimmerman be tried and held accountable, but we lost this battle. People are calling for DOJ civil rights prosecution, for which there is a high standard and this case won't meet it. Thats a waste of time.
The Martin family is considering a civil law suit. They have more basis to pursue that than anyone. I don't expect Zimmerman to have much money and were I the Martins, the most important thing for me in such a suit would be the opportunity to compel him to take the stand and explain himself. I'd sue him for a dollar.
The bigger point is that neither civil law suits or civil rights prosecutions will satisfy me (and I doubt many others). I wanted a court of criminal justice to say, you can't do what you did. That didn't happen. Nothing else available to do to Zimmerman will address that.
So I want some real justice to get done for somebody. So here is a what I say. Let's take this energy and outrage we feel about the outcome of this case and use it to achieve a just end in Marissa Alexander's case (success for her will affect other cases like hers) Let's not waste our time with useless outrage, rather, lets turn and attack a problem we can fix.
Marissa Alexander's case is a travesty with a 20 year sentence that is so absurd and unjust that it rises to the level of immorality to let it stand.
Anonymous cites counter opinions on the outcome of her case. He should do further research. I have. On the merits, the pre-trial judge who denied her SYG motion for immunity from prosecution applied the law incorrectly. She should have walked right there, case over.
Her case is not so much a question of race but rather of how domestic violence cases where women resist their abuser are mishandled. Furthermore, even if you concede the prosecution's argument, the sentence is brutally unjust and utterly foolish from a societal viewpoint. No actual judge would have imposed it under the circumstances, but FL mandatory minimums tie the judge's hands and wreak this sort of havoc.

With respect to the aforementioned, you expressed curiosity as to whether or not I thought George Zimmerman's actions were violent.
Although your readers might not be familiar with the term res ipsa loquitur, we both are........to put it simply: of course Zimmerman's behavior was violent. A court of law, however, found that at the time he exercised the use of deadly force he was afraid for his life or at least that he may suffer serious bodily injury. Neither of us were there. Do you as a criminal defense attorney actually place more credibility on media hearsay evidence than on a jury verdict? Is that how you argue as a trial attorney?
Was the black man who KO'd the white man really afraid for his safety when he threw the punch? Was the punch also not an act of violence.
Had Zimmerman's bullet not been lethal would his act be any less violent? Of course not.....the death of a young man simply made the violent act more tragic.
Had the KO'd white suffered a subdural hematoma, uncal herniation, or other intracranial trauma that resulted in his death would that have changed the nature of the underlying violent behavior? Of course not....the incident would have simply been more tragic and the criminality enhanced.
Field, the intent of my comment was that violent behavior should not be judged based on the color of the perpetrator's skin; but rather on what would the average reasonable person do under the same or similar circumstances. I do not think that if a white man KO'd Field for calling him a creepy cracka you and your followers would applaud the white man's use of excessive force in response to your inappropriate racial slur.
Respect and fairness must be mutual if the words are to have any true meaning and relevance.

Don't ever expect black lawyers to do ANYTHING. You see, with a few exceptions, black lawyers are incompetent and not too bright. Hell, they don't even know the law.
I remember Jodie who worked in the legal field, but was not a lawyer, answered questions for FN folks. But Field offered nothing. IMO, he just didn't know. Black lawyers are good people, but they are the worse when it comes to legal issues. There are quite a few dumb white lawyers too.
