50 YEARS LATER.

I would like to ask you Americans reading this to take a break from your twerking obsession and watch MLK's speech tonight on MSNBC.

Unfortunately you won't get a lot of other chances to watch it, because MLK was not only a great orator, he was a smart businessman as well. (He sent his speech to the U.S. Copyright office and had his work listed as a work not to be reproduced for sale.) His speech will not enter the public domain until 2038, so, until then, the only way to legally reproduce it is to pay a licensing fee.

Forget what others tell you, with all due respect to the Gettysburg Address, it's the greatest speech ever delivered in the History of this country. And it could not have come at a better time. Americans needed someone to appeal to their conscience and humanity at the time, and King's speech did just that. Back then we didn't have basic civil rights, and we were not viewed as equals by most Americans. That march to D.C. highlighted the hypocrisy of "American exceptionalism" at the time, and it put a spotlight on our most serious flaw.

That was 50 years ago, and I am glad to say that there have been some changes. But there is so much work left to be done. Laws have been passed to guarantee us equality, but now we have to work on getting economic equality and bridging the wealth -and educational- gap as well.

I loved the march, but we have some work to do in our communities. Some of you sperm donors need to be marching back home so that you can take care of business on the home front. That would be a nice start.

If we get our houses in order and start sending out children who value education and hard work the economic equality will come.

That's not something we have to dream about; that can be our reality.

The nation's only African American Senator, Tim Scott (R-SC), was not invited to speak because he doesn't tote the line of the Master's party. (same party that brought you the confederacy and the KKK). Tim Scott is a true Field Negro because he isn't afraid of the assaults by the master and his house negros.

Wow, Field. I thought I would never see the day you would actually speak of Blacks taking responsibility themselves, like Don Lemon and Bill O'Reilly have been saying all along.

Thank goodness you heard the words of Carter, Clinton, and Obama today. Thanks for keeping an open mind today.

MLK would be SPEAKING out against the threat of War while America is in shambles at home....

He would hold Black People accountable for their actions , but he would also hold accountable our so called " Leaders" who have woefully failed the Black Community for years on end...

Field, I noticed that you were silent on the lack of Republicans speaking today. That's just like a liberal, always discriminating. The Dems should have invited Boehner and Cantor and McCain. Why didn't they? They ruined the day by not including the GOP. I swear..you guys are disgustingly racist against Repubs. You have no sense of morality to do the right thing.

Now we'll probably have a lot of trouble with the debt ceiling. Why do Dems constantly shoot themselves in the foot? Wait...don't tell me, I already know.

Brother Field, excellent post. Again I say, you had to feel the moment in time of being so oppressed and his speech unleashed a new Brother Martin. There was an urgency in his call for actions "right now". Our parents were so hopeful that all the boycotting, marching and praying finally would bring the freedom that had been gained 100 years prior but not fully integrated in America.

In his speech he made reference to the "growing militancy" of some. As a youth, I was just tired of white people and white cops. Maybe one day the militancy role will come out from the shadow of Brother Martin. Some things are easily digestible. Still A Black Panther.

Blacks ARE different. They don't operate or feel the same as Whites. Please don't make us like them because it's not true. You must be 'new' to FN. Field knows all Blacks are the same at heart regardless of political party. Black conservatives didn't speak simply because they thought it better not to...that's all.

  19. Granted, there were some measurable changes after the Honorable Dr. MLK’s speech. It’s just too darn unfortunate that they didn’t hold. Because right-wing bobble heads and some Democrats are at fault for allowing some of these civil rights to be chipped away by our pandering, criminal court system in favor of so-called conservative, idiocy policies.

    Well Field,

I see some of your peeps didn't do their homework. There was a list of Republicans invited and they all declined including all three Bushes. The Elder Bush is sick so that's understandable. So much for The GOP's 'Minority Outreach'.
I watched the speech on MSNBC. During the course of my life I've heard Negroes try to speak like Dr. King, but none could put words together like him. He spoke a little like Brother Malcolm telling the Government that he wasn't going to back down. He told Brother Malcolm and others that it wasn't good to say 'all whites' are racist because some were standing with him. It was also interesting hearing everything that's excluded from the speech and the sound bite we hear all the time once he goes into the "I have a dream" part of his speech. He spoke so well especially when you take in effect that he was only 34 years old at the time.

Just before launching yet another unprovoked war to preserve the empire, Barack Obama stopped by the Lincoln Memorial to star in the commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington. He was joined by former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, the men most responsible for pulling the Democratic Party deep enough into the corporate camp to afford the billion dollar elections that brought Obama to power. The pretense was that the presidents were there to show solemn respect for the Movement that defeated official American apartheid. The truth is, they came to take possession of the occasion – a gift from their minions in the Black Misleadership Class, who believe nothing has value until it is blessed and possessed by Power.

that racist elitist global warlord warlock bankster hobama disgraced this event as he disgraces mlk!!!!

    cc syria/africom/jobless/homeless etc

    shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both King and Obama are mere mortals indeed. Yet, that may be their only valid commonality. King was anti-war and anti-elitist. Obama is the poster boy-in-chief for both war and elitism. King was slain while daring to empower poor people. Obama has already left legions of poor people mortally wounded by poverty and war around the globe. King was a global pacifist and humanitarian. Obama has been a fiscal and militaristic global horror. Could two men be any more starkly and completely different?

How could you so expertly indict what you perceived as a betrayal of one group of heroic black politicos, yet fail to similarly indict Obama for the millions of jobless and homeless persons he has gravely betrayed internationally? Obama has robbed millions to escalate a bloody war in Afghanistan that is hauntingly reminiscent of Vietnam. Unlike you, King would never accept Obama’s bloody and brutal political strategies for any reason.

The most painful component of your revisionist slander of King was the way you desecrated his dear, platonic, and eternal friendship with Bayard Rustin. The very same hypocritical homohating “christians” who harassed King, are the very same ones that now demand that afrocentric public intellectuals, like myself and Dyson, give the blackish Obama a blank white pass to perpetually betray the black community. We refuse to ever excuse Obama, no matter how the truths we tell about him are twisted or ignored.

Obama’s nominal and premature legacies are no match for an iota of King’s regal reign as a pacifist who fought for poor people. When King won the Nobel Peace Prize, it was a global honor. When war president Obama was selected to receive that same prize in 12 days, it was universally regarded as a global joke. King was a strategic clone of Mohandas Ghandi. Obama is a strategic clone of George W. Bush. Obama is an elitist. King was a champion of the poor. King frequently visited black enclaves. Obama avoids them religiously as he always evades all black racial arenas precisely as Dyson described.

In 1966, King visited and moved into a Chicago ghetto to help fight violent gangs. In 2008, Obama sought an Olympic bid to fatten the coffers of fellow slumlords in Chicago, as he brazenly ignored the brutal murder of Derrion Albert and many other violent children. Obama opted to send his presidential drones for a drive by photo opportunity instead. The wars in the streets of Chicago are not profitable enough to garner Obama’s attention, reserved for more lucrative engagements of America’s military industrial complex in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the blood in the streets of Chicago does not flow above oil wells.

It is only Obama who has become an evil deity. It is Obama who stands with a throng of elitists upon the necks of millions of poor/black people whom he financially and politically executes each day. I anxiously await the blessed day when Obama’s vapid and coddled rock star status will finally garner no more masochistically adoring throngs.

How dejected would King be by the new slavery of America's super sized Prison Industrial Complex?

How stunned would King be by the endless trillions that fund the Military Industrial Complex and make the cost of the Vietnam War he loathed look paltry?

How heartbroken would King be to witness Hobama's costly, bloody, serial, and global wars?

How shocked would King be by the randomly fatal ruthlessness of Hobama's beloved predator drones?

How horrified would King be to witness what the blackish Hobama has done, to assist white banksters, as they have slain poor people of all races globally, for decades to come?

How mortified would the scholarly King be to see how Hobama and his corporate charter school cronies have deliberately destroyed every vestige of public education?

How disgusted would King be about sagging pants and slacking students?

How passionately would King pray for scapegoated and abused teachers?

How depressed would King be about Hobama and his banksters' erasure of affordable public housing?

How disillusioned would King be to see that Hobama and his banksters have foreclosed the black middle class into nonexistence?

How deeply ashamed would King be by the tragic state of black “parenting”?

How painfully would Bayard Rustin and King marvel at the homohating hypocrisies of black hypochristians?

How revolting would King find the homohating antics of his suspect daughter Bernice, and her former BFF/fellow gaybasher/gay tree jumper for Jesus, Eddie Long?

How disgusted would King be by the rabid colorism and white supremacy that rule the mindless lives and self hating progeny of droves of young black men?

How deeply offended would King be by the blind and foolish Hobama Nazis who pretend that the rabidly elitist and disgraceful warmonger Hobama is his clone?

How diligently would King and Malcolm X march and toil to defy Hobama and his bankster rulers?...

  37. ObomBer must still be in his lecturing and scolding mode, even at 50th anniversary of Dr. MLK's speech.

ObomBer said: "And the anguish of assassinations set off self defeating riots. Legitimate. Grievances against olice brutality tipped into excuse making for criminal behavior."

I don't condone nor do I encourage rebellions or riots. However, ObomBer doesn't appear to understand rioting and rebellion are the languages of the poor while in a state of social and political oppression. People lash out at the system from time to time because of the inordinately, long running problems of discrimination and other injustices. Furthermore, for ObomBer to essentially exonerat collective whites and the colonialistic guided government is simply shameful. Anf for him to utter such nonsense on a day commemorating Dr. King is certainly incongruent for all he stood and died for.

Rep Joe Walsh said some wise words that marked the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. I agree with him, even though he is White. It seems the only men with a solution to our horrific dilemma are White:

"I have a dream that all black parents will have the right to choose where their kids attend school.

I have a dream that all black boys and girls will grow up with a father.

I have a dream that young black men will stop shooting other young black men.

I have a dream that all young black men will say “no” to gangs and to drugs.

I have a dream that all black young people will graduate from high school.

I have a dream that young black men won’t become fathers until after
they’re married and they have a job.

I have a dream that young unmarried black women will say “no” to young black men who want to have sex.

I have a dream that today’s black leadership will quit blaming racism and “the system” for what ails black America.

I have a dream that black America will take responsibility for improving their own lives.

I have a dream that one day black America will cease their dependency on the government plantation, which has enslaved them to lives of poverty, and instead depend on themselves, their families, their churches, and their communities."

Thank you, Joe. I hope my peeps will follow with the necessary action to bring about the fulfillment of that dream.

Dr. King was never a gay basher. He bravely battled with gay bashers often as he defended and respected a dear friend, an organizational legend, a fellow warrior, and a gay man named Bayard Rustin. Coretta Scott King was always a great ally to gay activists, and she will truly be irreplaceable as our most recent felled warrior among church folks.

Civil rights legend Julian Bond dared to reprimand the white sheep of the King family, Bernice King, and skip Coretta’s funeral service. Bond admirably and respectfully did so in a dignified protest against the rabidly gaybashing pastor of the church chosen to host the service, a fool named Eddie Long. Sadly and surely Bernice’s curious and equally notorious gay hatred had a hand in desecrating her mother’s service so…

I am certain that Dr. King would not condone the gay hatred that is being mandated in black churches today. He would not allow himself to be pimped by Republikkkans. He would not preach sexual bigotry to black heterosexuals. He would not encourage sexual suicide to black gays. He would still be calling out black church folks for all of their social, political, and moral sins, just as he did decades ago. And, he would still befriend and defend Rustin.

Black churches are filled with homosexual gaybashers. They are homohating hypocrites who hate themselves. They get no more famous or toxic than Bernice King and her BBFF Eddie Long. Both of these poisonous “pastors” are renowned as allegedly closeted and curiously rabid homosexual homohaters.

I have always loved and admired Julian Bond. I admired him most when he refused to attend his fellow legend and sister warrior Coretta Scott King’s funeral. He had the signature courage and integrity to call Bernice out as she chose to disgrace her beloved mother’s final memorial inside Eddie Long’s demonic church. That church is a typical black one where hatred is routinely heralded as a godly value. That church stands as the evil antithesis of everything that the pro-gay, pro-humanitarian Coretta King and Martin Luther King Jr. stood and fought for over decades.

Bernice is the typical allegedly DL gaybashing christian, ideal to lead a typically gaybashing black christian organization. It is ironic that any unwed closeted lesbian would demand that other lesbians and gays live a similar lie and never legally wed. But, irony is what hypochristians do best. They are oppressed by racism as they equally oppress gays. They were also once denied the right to marry as slaves or interracial spouses, as they deny homosexuals marital equality. Nothing is as ironic as those who hate anyone in the name of a loving God.

Coretta Scott King was the last great truly Christian ally to black gays and lesbians. It is said that the fruit never falls far from the tree. But, Bernice and her disgraceful homohatred are proof that fruit can be torn from trees by fierce winds of hatred. That ill wind damaged fruit can then be flung into churches where it rots and festers into potent and putrid wines of bigotry. Bernice epitomizes the perfect nectar of arsenic at the helm of the homohating SCLC. Let the drunken church and its poisoned organizations say Amen…

what would u have posted if gwb was invading syria today?

    shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are fatal and tragic times in which fascism has become afrocentric. Wars have become perpetual slaughters. And, George W. Bush/King Shrub’s cowboy strut has been upgraded and revamped to become Hobama’s Chi-town swag as he strolls along the same genocidal global paths.
