An imperfect verdict.

The mother of Jordan Davis says that she will pray for her son's killer in an eloquent and passionate press conference, after her son's killer was found not guilty of his murder by a jury made up mostly of his peers.

She said that she felt sorry for him that he will have to spend the rest of his life being remorseful for her son's killing.

I watched this trial from the start, and I wish I could say that I am surprised.

The lives of young black men in this country (especially in places like Florida) just doesn't matter that much. Sadly, some will argue, that young black males themselves are to blame for this. They kill each other in such record numbers that others feel like when a young black life is lost it is no more meaningful than the death of a family pet.

But this is a chicken and egg question; because when the justice system finds it necessary to treat the killers of young black men differently than they do others, we all see it. And we all know the deal. The system sends a message to all of us.

"But Field, the man is looking at 60-90 years in jail, what more do you want?"

Well yes. But this is because Mr. Dunn chose to fire a second volley of shots into the SUV on that fateful night. He was charged and convicted of attempted murder of the other boys who actually lived. That is why he is going to probably spend the rest of his life in prison, not because he shot an innocent young black male in cold blood.

Following the logic of the verdict, if he had shot and killed all the young men in the car that night he would be a free man.

Angela Corey, the incompetent state attorney in Florida, says that her office is going to retry Mr. Dunn on the first degree murder charge.

I hope that she does. Because the parents of this young man deserve closure.

I am listening to Don Lemon (My current HNOTD) go off on CNN about the verdict and the fact that Mr. Dunn was not found guilty of gunning down Jordan Davis. "This is absolutely about race, and it makes me angry" he says. "It's time for some real talk about the elephant in the room and what type of message this sends to society at large."

The irony of this is, of course, that folks like Lemon contributed to this climate in our country. He did by constantly declaring that folks who see race in everything doth protest too much.

Tonight, I think that even Don will agree that maybe we need to protest a little more.

"We are so grateful for the charges that have been brought against him,.... "We are so grateful for the truth. We are so grateful that the jurors were able to understand the common sense of it all."

You might be "grateful" Ms. McBath, but I am not. Because in the very near future, there will be another mother grieving the loss of her son just like you.

Dunn wan not found "not guilty"; the jury did not render a verdict on that count.

When you start your post with an obvious lie, you tend to lose credibility. Not that you had much to start with.

I don't know what happened that night, but I have to trust the jury made its decision in good faith, and Mr. Dunn deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.

But the whole reason this story was national news was to keep the plantation riled up. And that it did.

Time to find a new story.

  4. Not surprised by this verdict. I suspected that a "diverse" jury would never convict Dunn of first degree murder.

Unless there is an all black jury, Dunn will never be convicted of murder in any degree. Whites are incapable of doing there civic duty when it comes to sitting in judgement of their own when the accused is tried for killing a black.

    The Zimmerman trial demonstrated that.

Next, the sentencing will be another slap in the face. Dunn will serve no more than 10 years in prison, be credited with the time served in jail, and be released in good behavior.

    Amen Field,

What they did was throw out a pacifier by saying look he's going to jail for a long, long time, but not for killing Jordan Davis. Those folks in Florida don't want to give up their right to kill any black child they see and claim syg.

I refuse to compromise with the life of an innocent black child and accept a pacifier. They can keep their pacifier and do what is right and fair, justice for Jordan. DUNN IS GUILTY! Black children have just as much right to walk the streets unhampered without some gun nut using them for target practice.

My prayers are with Jordan's family and that the Lord gives them strength.

A vicious crime was certainly committed, but perhaps the problem is that the DA overcharged by going for First Degree Murder. Doesn't First Degree Murder require pre-meditation in Florida? Maybe second degree murder is the appropriate charge and would have brought a conviction.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It does require "pre-meditation" , and I saw it in his actions. There is no set time limit for pre-meditation.

And yes, there was a mistrial on the first count and not a "not-guilty" verdict by the court. But my argument still stands: In the mind of one or more on that jury, he was not guilty of first degree murder of Jordan Davis.

The trajectory of the bullets don't match up to the story told by the prosecution.

The bullets that hit Davis came in at nearly a 90 degree angle from a shooter with less than a 45 degree angle.

Based on the testimony of the teens in the SUV and the angle of the bullet holes, it is clear that the door of Davis was indeed open and not closed due to a "child lock" as the teens stated.

That is consistent with what the defense said, that Davis repeatedly threatened to kill Dunn and was trying to exit the SUV to carry out his death threat when he was shot.

If the NYT were to catalogue all the black-on-white murders, rapes, robberies, assaults that happen around the country they'd have little space left to squeeze in their stories about gay marriage and open borders. It'd just be one big thick crime blotter. Not having been on the jury to listen to the testimony I wouldn't make snap judgements about what the verdict should have been. Telling blacks to turn down their loud music or to stop trashing the place is apparently a very dangerous thing to do in today's America. Telling some Swedes something like that would not likely result in a shooting or stabbing, not that they would be doing something like that to begin with. This'll serve as more fuel for the knockout "game" in the coming warmer weather, not that they need any more encouragement as it is since they're just doing what they want to do anyway.

Time to STOP signing up for protection of a country, while living in the country you're supposedly protecting has NO protection whatsoever for you. When you're perpetually in a war yourself, there's no reason to GO to war for anybody else.

    Really now.

Well you might want to rethink that.

"For instance, take a circle with a 90 degree angle."

Holy Jeezus, the stupid continues. Now circles have 90 degree angles in them. Hillbilly math. No wonder they think Dunn is innocent.

Ever take geometry? Circles have 360 degrees within their circumference. that means along its arcs are degrees, including 90 degrees, 45 degrees 30 degrees, 135 degrees, etc. Just draw an a chord from the center to a point on the circle. Then draw another chord perpendicular to the chord. You will get a 90 degree angle within the circle... Even Whites who live in trailor parks know this...

You went to a public school down in the hood in Detroit, didn't you?

    Even Whites

Got it....Another slug killed an unarmed Black youth and now Black America is upset here comes the endless words about inequality and racism. Black America has mastered the art of drama and righteous tears no other group in America can express the reality of inequity like a nation of negroes and colored folks we have it down to an art almost a science.

Yet into this chamber of victimhood noise the silence regarding our worship, love for the sanctity of Black life is hollow. We have failed in convincing whites and even others of color how valuable and important our lives are. We have failed our own communities in calculating how precious and valuable our lives are.

Yep my rant is not about the tired racial politics about Black on Black crime nor the endless debates on equality. Today I remind myself again how wonderful and awesome the aspect of being alive is. The sanctity of life is my prayer this universal truth is going to stop the killing .....
