"A Southern California couple is taking legal action to evict their live-in nanny who they say refused to work or leave.
Marcella Bracamonte, 31, and her husband hired Diane Stretton, 64, off of Craigslist in March as a live-in nanny to care for their three children, Bracamonte said.
The first few weeks of Stretton's tenure went smoothly, allowing Bracamonte to pursue work outside her family's home in Upland, California, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles.
But Stretton became a burden: She left her bedroom only for meals and later claimed she was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Bracamonte said.
"She complained about me leaving her with the kids too long. I tried to be patient with her," Bracamonte said. "She just stopped working altogether."
The home gradually became more hostile, and Bracamonte was unable to fully pursue a new job with a multi-level marketing company.
The couple fired the nanny after she stopped working, but Stretton asserted her rights as a tenant and hasn't left. She has threatened to sue the couple for elder abuse, Bracamonte said.
Eviction papers filed against Stretton were denied. Bracamonte said the court documents were filled out by a paralegal. On Friday, the family hired attorney Marc Cohen, who said he plans to file a new round of eviction papers. [Source]

Anywhoo, I am sure that you all heard about this
Hobby Lobby ruling from the Supremes by now.
Progressives are up in arms because they think that once again the Supreme Court is
telling the women of America that being a woman is not cool in 2014.
Hobby Lobby doesn't want to pay for certain types of contraceptives for their female employees because it goes counter to their religious beliefs.
(Yes, corporations are people, so they can be a part of a religion as well. )
Needless to say that I side with Justice Ginsburg's dissenting opinion:
"In the Court’s view, RFRA demands accommodation of a for-profit corporation’s religious beliefs no matter the impact that accommodation may have on third parties who do not share the corporation owners’ religious faith—in these cases, thousands of women employed by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga or dependents of persons those corporations employ. Persuaded that Congress enacted RFRA to serve a far less radical purpose, and mindful of the havoc the Court’s judgment can introduce, I dissent.....until today, religious exemptions had never been extended to any entity operating in 'the commercial, profit-making world.'"
Jesus cannot be pleased. He was not a "commercial, profit-making" kind of guy.
Once again, SCOTUS has stopped Obama and the left from tramping on the religious freedoms of all Americans.

I feel slightly bad for the couple with the ex-nanny, but not that bad. I mean, okay, it's unpleasant that the couple have got to put up with her for a couple months while she looks for a new place to live, but then she's out. Tenant-protection laws don't allow someone to stick around forever. Unless she is actually dangerous, this is at worst a minor inconvenience.

Amazing that your asking for an explanation as to why forcing people to purchase high cost health insurance isn't a good idea....Now this ruling doesn't affect its standing as law but it opens the doors for it to be taken down bit bit ..exemption. by exemption until we get single payer ...Something that should've been fought for from the beginning not this huge give away to insurance companies ....Damm as a Lawyer u can't see that??
ReplyDeleteBiB, we both know single payer will not be reached in one step. Canada got it incrementally and so will we unless of course we keep republican majorities in congress.

Obama didn't just give them a piece of the pie-he gave them the whole pie. The ACA is resulting in historic windfall profits for the insurance industry. To go along with that, the ACA will be responsible for trillion dollar taxpayer bailouts of the insurance industry.
Windfall profits and bailouts.
Remember when the left use to be against these things?

ReplyDelete"A grand jury indicted Virginia Delegate Joe Morrissey (D-Henrico) on Monday on charges connected to his relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
Prosecutors say Morrissey had sex with a teenage part-time receptionist at his law office on two occasions, as well as other sexual encounters. Special Prosecutor Bill Neely says phone records from both parties confirm the inappropriate relationship.
A special grand jury returned a true bill charging Morrissey with four felonies on Monday afternoon. The charges include supervisory indecent liberties with a minor, electronic solicitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
If convicted, Morrissey could spend up to 30 years in prison, face a fine and would have to register as a sex offender."

ReplyDeleteThe ACA is a good first step to universal healthcare. Sure maybe negotiations could have been stronger but we know the end result. Millions more people have health insurance now. When we have as much money in politics as we do there have to be deals cut. Sad but that's reality.
ReplyDelete"They sound like every con-person's dream: always on the lookout for something for nothing."
ReplyDeleteSounds like you meant "every democrat's dream"
Just sayin'.....
Corporations, even closely held corporations are fictional entities and as such cannot, by definition, have beliefs, sincerely held or otherwise, only bylaws. This decision isn't about religious freedom but about something completely different. Notice that the only "religious" exception that the court is granting has to do with women and specifically their sexuality. They aren't about to grant Jehovah's Witness owned corporations the right to deny their employees blood products or transfusions, or Christian Scientist owned corporations (or other faith-healer owned corporations) the right to forego the program altogether. No, this decision is about society's patriarchal right to control women's sexuality. It has the same reek as the Dread Scott Case, an infamy that time only exacerbates. It will, like Dread Scott, eventually fall of it's own weight. Kennedy & Scalia are both knocking on 80 and hanging on to see how '16 goes. Neither are likely to hold out to '20, much less '24, and both are already in their statistical "drop dead" prime. Happy thoughts.

Also notice that the "contraceptive mandate" was the only thing being challenged on religious grounds.
Funny that would be "the only "religious" exception that the court is granting".
"They aren't about to grant Jehovah's Witness owned corporations the right to deny their employees blood products or transfusions, or Christian Scientist owned corporations (or other faith-healer owned corporations) the right to forego the program altogether"
Your right. Since that would violate all kinds of laws that are on the books.
"No, this decision is about society's patriarchal right to control women's sexuality."
If that were true than SCOTUS would have issued the broadest ruling possible. Instead, the ruling was very narrow.

Question: What civil/constitutional rights do STRAIGHT black people currently not have?
FP, you've been spending entirely too much time on those right wing blogs which is where you get all your talking points about LGBT people.
ReplyDeleteThose right wing blogs you frequent have a vested interest in spreading the falsehood that Matthew Shephard was murdered by a gay man.

His wrists were so tightly bound that the only way to free them was by cutting into his flesh.

ReplyDeleteThe Nanny is no longer in those people's household. She left a few days ago according to local news stations out this way. I kinda believe she was homeless, the reason why she stayed long as she did. People babysitting, doing in- home-care, and housecleaning to keep from being homeless. Smh!
ReplyDeleteGreed is the number one cause of homelessness these days. I read an ad someone wrote advertising in their search of rental housing. The person has a steady job, good credit, good rental history, and claims to be quiet. That person said that it's hard finding a place because sky high rent charges are criminal. Yeah, that person used "criminal" to describe how high rent is nowadays. After looking at them, I agree. Where is that man that said the "Rent is too D@$ high? I can just imagine what a burden that is on poor people. It' sad when greed denies people a roof over their head.
In a lot of ways I can count my blessings and I'm thankful for each and every one of them, but it disturbs me when others are not as fortunate because so many of the "Haves" are so darn greedy and don't realize or care about the impact it has on their fellow man.
Nevertheless, it's so much crazy stuff going on these days, selfishness, greed, and hatred among Americans until nothing surprises me anymore. I try to stay in my space and hope that folks stay in theirs and don't invade mine.
I remember back a couple of years ago seeing a man digging in the garbage can. He pulled a half-eaten biscuit out of it and ate it. He did not care that people were watching him do it. The disturbing part was that people act as if it was normal. Lord help us all today

ReplyDeleteThe Nanny claimed that they tried to feed her dog food. Smh!
ReplyDeletePC, it was a good fight by USA, but until we develop a world class striker in this country we will not get past this round in the WC.
ReplyDeleteHoward was terrific, but he, along with Dempsey, are the only real world class players on this team.
Well true, but I thought the kid DeAndre Yedlin gave an astonishing performance, the best individual performance of this world cup, I reckon.
ReplyDelete"Are you the only one who can ask questions of others, which is NOT your business?"
ReplyDeleteYes.

ReplyDeleteMay not happen as long as there are so many other sports higher up the echelon than soccer. er futbol. What would Adrian Peterson, Chris Paul or Mike Vick look like on a soccer field?
Granny, "I remember back a couple of years ago seeing a man digging in the garbage can. He pulled a half-eaten biscuit out of it and ate it. He did not care that people were watching him do it. The disturbing part was that people act as if it was normal. Lord help us all today"

If I had been there I would not have watched the homeless man eat from the can because of extreme hunger. I would have bought him some real food.
But I most people will watch and not be moved to feed him.
Hey Granny, apart from that obvious con artist nanny woman, that's why I always tell people don't judge when they see others living on the streets, it's not always about "drugs" or "alcohol". A lot of people are just one paycheck away from being homeless or living in their cars.
ReplyDeleteAnd gee, how many of you friendly homos are there on this blog? Don't you folks have a bunch a weddings to attend to these days?

ReplyDeleteAnon, I am not a homo hater, I too refuse to play the pretend game. You folks are just as racist, colorist, greedy, vindictive and hateful towards others and even towards your own.
And don't forget, one of you "loving homos" declared your hatred for black women a couple threads back. What makes you folks think you should be exempt from reproach?
Dear Internet Doctor, just remember to keep that ring on it while you cross your other fingers at each and every gynecological visit. Just pretend it's your good luck charm.
Anyway... Peace, Blessings and Antibiotics
@Trolly,
ReplyDeleteThat is so true, I know a a young who is a psychologist. The woman was interviewed, promised a job out this way. While she was in transit moving here to start on the new job, the job hired someone else. She winded up in a shelter...homeless.
Our local newspaper did a series on the homeless back a few years ago. Quite a few of them had jobs, but couldn't afford the rent. In San Francisco, a woman had a bus converted into showers for the homeless.
I have a young woman and her child staying with me now that are homeless.
Fox recently bought one of our local news station, which most African Americans watch. I wonder if Fox plans to enforce its lying policy with this station. Now, that's depressing to me.
Troll go back to mopping those library floors! Thas what you do best! and hey, that ugly dog is waitin for ya to lay some lovin on it! Ahahaha!

It's just the beginning of the siege to dismantle AHCA and overturn Roe v Wade.
ReplyDeleteTrying to figure out what's wrong with a baby speaking Spanish? Worst come to worse, you end up with a bilingual kid.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like the only thing that went wrong was they weren't spending enough time with their kid, but it wasn't the Nanny's fault.
