Take, for instance, the case of "Thug Kitchen".
"When I first clicked through the recipes at Thug Kitchen, a tongue-in-cheek, vegan cooking blog served up with a heaping side of expletives, I imagined a calorie-conscious, gangly young black man who’s particularly vehement about clean eating, insistently tapping recipes into his blog while Dead Prez reverberates in the background. He has a good eye, too, as he complements such recipes as “Roasted Brussels Sprouts With Quinoa and Motherf--king Cranberries” with Pinterest-worthy pics and the tagline, “Eat like you give a f--k.”
With African Americans especially plagued with obesity and the accompanying stressors and diseases, it was a refreshing idea that a young black man would be the purveyor of not just healthy eating but vegan cuisine at that, a leap that some health-conscious folks might find it difficult to make, given the restrictions on eggs and dairy in addition to meats.
More Auntie Fee than Chef G. Garvin, the blog would likely discourage trading recipes word for word with your mom. Still, I was inspired. To me, Thug Kitchen could have helped whip up a healthy eating movement akin to those of the natural-hair purists or, say, Black Girls Run— which are all uplifting healthwise for black folks and enforce a positive message for us. Would Chef G. Garvin or Chef Roblé feature the up-and-comer? Might he be cooking with the Neelys one day?
But wait.
"With more than 51,000 followers on Twitter, a couple of endorsements from Gwyneth Paltrow and a new cookbook released to much fanfare, the mystery blogger behind the well-trafficked site was poised and ready to emerge from the shadows and join fellow next-level black entrepreneurs.
An Epicurious profile revealed one astonishing caveat, however: The Thug Kitchen creator isn’t exactly a black entrepreneur—or black at all.
In the spirit of Thug Kitchen language, what the f--k?
The blog is actually the brainchild of a white man and white woman who started it in August 2012 on Tumblr." [Read more.]
Lord have mercy! These white folks are getting slick.
This is why I don't feel bad for that white lady who thought that she was getting a little white bundle of joy and got a black one.
Hey, in "post-racial" America, should it really matter what color the child is?
The couple said that they ordered sperm from a white man with blue eyes but they got the sperm of a Negro.
Now they are worried about raising the little girl in a neighborhood that will not be friendly to a little child of color. (You gotta love America.)
Anyway, I keep thinking about this poor girl. What will happen when she grows up and realizes that her parents made national headlines when she was a baby because they didn't want her ?
That is definitely not a good look.
"Within days of their wedding in New York, Jennifer Cramblett and Amanda Zinkon had become pregnant with the donor sperm. In April 2012, five months into her pregnancy, Cramblett, 36, called Midwest Sperm Bank LLC outside Chicago to reserve sperm from the same donor in the hope that Zinkon, 29, would someday also have a child.

That's when Cramblett learned from a sperm bank employee that she had been inseminated with sperm from the wrong donor, according to a lawsuit filed Monday against Midwest Sperm Bank in Cook County, Illinois.
Cramblett said they had chosen sperm from a man known as No. 380, a white donor. The sperm used for insemination came from No. 330, a black donor, she said.
"How could they make a mistake that was so personal?" Cramblett said during a telephone interview on Wednesday.
According to the lawsuit, her excitement about the pending birth was replaced with "anger, disappointment and fear." [Source]
The "anger" and "disappointment" I might get. But why the "fear"?
Oh wait.....raising a boy of color in America. Yep, that would probably scare me as well.

Alright, everyone needs to stop with this. This couple are not necessarily racist.
ReplyDeleteI mean, they might be, but racism isn't the only possible reason for their objections. It's entirely possible they just wanted a kid who looks like them.
I imagine there are plenty of black parents out there who would not know what to do if they were in the delivery room and a white baby popped out.

Ahahahaa! Couldn't help laughing at this!
Although serious enough, this is also such a complicated subject/practice.
All of these children that are conceived from sperm donors when grown may one day unknowingly marry a half brother or sister!!!

ReplyDeleteGood call.
"All of these children that are conceived from sperm donors when grown may one day unknowingly marry a half brother or sister!!!"
ReplyDeleteSo what? Black families were routinely broken up by slave masters buying and selling off-springs of slaves. The odds of Blacks marrying brothers sisters and cousins were very high during that time. Which means today we have no idea whether we are related or not when we marry.
Ferguson is becoming unhinged. It's just a matter of time before the riot explodes there:

True, and that may have been so in many cases, but I do believe that records of the sales were kept in most cases. So the families knew who there loved ones had been sold to. Also they would find out through the grapevine, when they would be told by others there on errands that their family were seen at so and so's plantation and how they were doing.
At least that's how it was done here, although here they tended to keep the family together and not sell and separate them as much as in the states.
The grapevine baby, the gossip mill, ;D

ReplyDeleteWhere do you get your information from or do you just make up shit in your head? Once the families were broken up and sold, Blacks had no idea where the father or mother went.
Do you sit in PR and make shit up to make things all right? Well, the truth is we DON'T know and there are very few records of where slaves went once they were sold. Everybody in America knows that.
But maybe PR is different. Of course you are...you are not like the Blacks on mainland America.

ReplyDeleteas long as lilac keeps showing up here i won't be safe.
The video in a comment above about the reasons for the Civil War and freeing the slaves is interesting, but I don't think there is a simple explanation. I wonder what historians will say were the reasons for the Iraq War 150 years from now? The Proclamation Declaration didn't come out until a year after the Civil War started. And a year before it ended Jefferson Davis said the south would free the slaves if the south won. Lincoln freeing the slaves could have been a tactic to stop England from supporting the south. The British Parliament was against slavery by that time. There are historians who say there wasn't a whole lot of support for the south from England in the first place though. And Jefferson Davis' concession to free the slaves was obviously desperation. You could say the war was only about freeing the slaves during the middle two years, but curbing future slavery was probably always an issue. I don't think anybody knows the exact hierarchy of the relative importance of the reasons for the Civil War starting. "The winners write history." There were issues about whether territories coming up for statehood would be free or slave states, and an excise tax had been levied on cotton to get the south to sell cotton to factories in the north instead of to England.

ReplyDeletei, too, found it interesting that AD taking a switch to his child got more play than the brutal beating death of another of his children. the murderer is out and on with his life. the mother of the dead baby, still living with the man that thought beating her child, in the head- TO DEATH- made perfect sense. harvested that babies organs + kept it moving with the quickness. while the media ordered folk to hey! over here! watch this...
and folk followed the madness circus on cue.
where are the women groups? the outrage?
oh, that's Right. those that tell folk what to think + how to feel have not sanctioned concern for such a matter. + the Black nation remains so focused on what happens to the menfolk- the women and children are a bit of an afterthought...if that.
not much that i can say regarding this post. just not a lot there to work with really. though i sense someone thinking tormenting lesbians= big fun. can't prove it. but that's how it hit my spirit. gay = ok. moreso than Good ww birthing colored babies. even today. folk get more props if they go to poor nations and snag a colored baby or two...tres chic. lol.
encountering that not a lot to work with lately when i visit here. no disrespect
FN. folk hollering 'bout racism and reparations like they have NO idea what is written. folk more concerned with what white folk think than with what Almighty thinks...
if i were white, i would be sick of Black folk, too. like back up already. focus on Yah + yourselves Black folk. don't you KNOW who you are by now?
lol.
folk wanna mention fp, disparagingly, when it comes to homosexuality...
how 'bout all the Scripture posted that spells out who we are as a nation? that Psalm 83'ers WON'T teach in the church building on sun day DESPITE it being CLEARLY written in OT AND NT...
crickets + tumbleweeds.
said as a joke...
but true.
ReplyDeletebut go head with your bad selves. at least ya'll "educated" + paid. so who cares 'bout the stuff that makes more sense?
it is wm sounding the alarm about ebola. which the us government holds the patent for. a sista that posted that little ditty for all to see. while folk chasing racism in the land of bondage as described in the curses of Deuteronomy to a
Tee.
for the Love of Yah, folk STILL bickering 'bout dems/repubs like they can't glean both worship + do the bidding of the same master...who hates us all.
all colors.
world wide.
folk waxing poetic 'bout BO's safety when he is out warring wm + if folk paid attention, the grim Time magazine cover spoke volumes for those of US that Understand how the shadow government gets down...
if folk want to stop chasing racism for a minute...they might find that the sons/daughters of edom are getting theirs, too. and it hasn't even kicked into high gear yet. Blessed Blacks just go first...
of course.
because we were first...
made last for our disobedience/idolatry. which is what the fixation on white folk is on some level.
more idolatry.
it is nauseating to see slaves (field + house) chase after folk that clearly wish to be left alone...
sanging in their best Jennifer Holliday voice:
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE ME!
lol.
i pray we cut that out as a nation...
soon.
it is shameful on all levels.
it is all about the Spirit round about now. this spiritual battle has nothing to do with color. it is clearly written that we war NOT against the flesh.
Real fight the Power is to set aside petty differences and find common ground. THIS is why fanning the flames of racism, classism, sexism, ALL isms = top item on the agenda.
always.
so, i don't know if folk over here know it...but they are Right on point with the advancing of the demonic agenda. too "smart" to acknowledge much less throw up some Praise for Yah Almighty who reigns forever and ever...
despite what we think we see.
ps. i am Black and i strongly believe the Anon that folk here bully + swear isn't Black is Black as well. they just doesn't adhere to the "Black" thought police guidelines. to which i say: Good on 'em:)
Shabbat Shalom + Blessings all!

ReplyDeleteWow. There are so many layers to this story.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand I do agree that u should get what u pay for, and that they had every right to be upset that they specifically requested one thing and got another. On the other hand, though, they should be thinking about the long-term welfare of the child regardless of the color.
Anon, do not be afraid of my girl in PR. She is good people. She will not harm u.
"All of these children that are conceived from sperm donors when grown may one day unknowingly marry a half brother or sister!!!"
ReplyDeleteThat's always possible, but that was also always possible in the case of adopted kids, before sperm donation came along.
Statistically, it's not very likely two kids from the same sperm donor would end up romantically involve. But it probably has happened a few times, when you consider the number of kids now conceived by sperm donation.

ReplyDeleteRight. Well, it does sound like they are doing that. It's not like they're trying to "give the kid back for a refund" or something crazy. But they are having to make some adjustments that they hadn't planned for when they decided to conceive.
They may have to move, because the neighborhood in which they are currently living isn't necessarily good for a little biracial kid. The couple have hinted that their extended family is maybe a little bit racist? So they're going to have to work through that issue as well.
I have nothing against with parents raising kids of a different race, but the prospective parents should have a choice in the matter, because they need to be ready and willing for the challenges it entails. The worst case scenario would be if the new parents in a sperm bank mix-up did turn out to be extremely bigoted people. That would be no laughing matter at all for the child.
this comment is in response to a request by an ANON(good one) to answer the question if there were Uncle Toms, Stephens, slave catchers, house negroes and other names from the 60s. As a JOKE, these are names from maybe the 1860s. I guess the actions of the individual got him/her named.
ReplyDeleteIn the 60s I can only tell you my experiences about the names and the relationship I/we had with Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK). Firstly all people did what they could to shield themselves and their family from the oppression of racism/Jim Crow.
During the times, MANY people worked directly with the whites and their families as housekeepers and child caregivers. These people keep quiet when it came to Civil Rights. I had many friends with mothers and fathers were in this category. Were they house negroes or UT? I say they were survivals to the times. These parents were always fearful that their job may be gone by the action of their kids. They did support MLK because of the Lord/Jesus ideas that Brother Martin Espoused. Now they may not be seen at any marches now.
Yes we had Stephans.. These people were necessary to difuse many situations. Nationally we had Sammy Davis Jr.. He was used by the whites to show us how to act, behave and therefor we too could be on stage dancing and cooning. BY NO MEANS TO DISPARAGE HIM, the finality to his presence was that other Blacks were able to get on the small screen.
I say we had many fractions of people trying to keep their jobs, their neighborhood status and their sanity living under the daily brutality of the 60s.
Yes, Black people loved John F. Kennedy more-so than MLK. They had high hopes that this rich white man from the "Norte" was our Messiah coming to free us at last. You must remember there were about 12 Southern states and the rest were labeled Northern. The experience were different. So any help outside the South was GOOD HELP.
The 60s were the most volatile period for the Nation outside the Civil War, ALL the assassinations, wars, civil disobedience, and riots.
We the Black people came into the 60s on our knees (MLK praying) and we ended that decade on our feet (Black militancy). I came into the 60s watching my mother and father plan how there were going to be a part of the struggle and maintain their jobs, I was 9 in 1960. I too made it through. Yes I have seen the dogs and have seen the face beefy red police. I ended 1969 in Vietnam as a medic which made 1960 a cake walk.
And yes, in a hopelessness way, today remind me of those challenging times. Then I had hope because I had people on a daily basis discussing how we were going to come out on top. Now I see a small few Blacks getting paid and eating/socializing with the people that could care less about them or our plight here in America. What label would be ascribed to them?
"Let me reiterate what I said before: You are the Larry Elder of FN blog...a total idiot who can't even recognize a fellow Black. You have no biz on an AA blog. You don't relate, can't relate and know nothing about the 60's in America.

Indeed! There is also the fact that when the children may be entitled, and decide to seek out their biological father for child support!
I read a very interesting article by a sperm donor. He did it for college tuition money.
Where this and many other issues came back to haunt him and made him regret his decision.
I believe there was one man who thought he had fathered upwards of 32 children through his sperm donation. and was actually having sleepless nights due to these and other moral issues!

Brother SAP2, I thank you for responding to my comment. You reminded me more of the 60's in detail.
Yes I agree that we came to the 60's on our knees and yes we DID end up on our feet in 60's. I can hear "I'm Black and I'm Proud!". What a black movement that was! It just didn't last very long. We needed it to continue for a long time.
That is what saddens my heart, it didn't last. We went right back to acting like we didn't matter as a race. We never learned to love who we were/are. We still deny ourselves as worthy of dignity, strength and power.
Today, I DO see and feel the hopelessness. I sometimes think it's just me, but alas, it's not. Reading the comments and attacks on Blacks by Blacks for speaking the truth indicates that we do not 'love' the truth. We don't want to face the truth...we hide from it. Yet, we behave and act out in strange ways that display our confused fearful predicament. It's no longer about survival as in the 60's. It's about self-destruction, and clouded minds teetering on the brink of hopelessness.
So many of us are desperate. We have 'holes' in our souls and we don't know how or what to fill those spiritual holes with. Very few, if any, are trustworthy. Most have sold their souls to the devil who 'appears' to be 'hell-bent' on destroying not only the Black race, but the entire human race. It's a madhouse.

@11:37 AM-
ReplyDeleteyou don't speak for me. thank you kindly all the same.
what IS shocking to me is folk have had their brains hard scrambled by the msm and their all gay everything pr campaign.
here is my Truth:
i am not even remotely concerned with gay people on any given day. i am het so homosexuality does not factor prominently for me. gay is not my new normal. just as i don't suppose het concerns are something that gays obsess over...
outside of the on going cram sessions the msm insists on subjecting the world majority het population to, 'cause it's trendy- i would not give it a second thought really.
a person being gay has not ever been a factor in how i relate to them. just as it would not occur to me to mistreat someone 'cause they sexually prefer tall men, dark haired women, etc. it is all the same to me. there is no interest in bickering about it or splitting hairs. born this way. not born this way. who cares? i don't. Good people are Good people. they come in gay, het, Black, White, and many other combinations...
when faced with what is written, i will not pretend not to know. nor will i be bullied into silence on the topic. IF that resonates as "hate" or fear of men (homophobia) which is hilarious to me as a het woman...
oh well.
it does not surprise nor shock me that gay PEOPLE are people. folk like you seem not to understand that gay people are JUST people and not some supa special group of people with special rights. that's the problem/your problem...
which i can't fix, though i will pray for you to work that out for yourself.
no snark.
i hate injustice in general, so i have always been an advocate for the het Black community getting into Scripture just as hard as they do when homosexuality comes up. those that are worse than infidels according to what is written are legion in the Black community. yet...
these same ones seem only to know homosexuality = abomination and women should be submitted to their men, which they re-write to submission to men in general, Scripture.
lol.
heavily agenda'd, all gay everything, all day, homosexuals like yourself...
those short on Understanding and memory have created a bit of indifference for me on the gay rights topic.
congratulations.
ps. BW should die out was you emulating BW when i called you out. if you are that same angry little 'ole gay man that just won't go on somewhere. i would forget/deny that shameful episode as well, if i were you and that is you. now if you could fixate elsewhere that would be great. i am not interested in the ongoing gay bm saga you seem to want to keep going with me. take that to other bm and have fun with it.
ReplyDeletethe het contract does not have provisions for womenfolk to spend long periods of time bickering with menfolk. het men don't typically engage in the practice as a rule of thumb. they know better + that they can't win...
it is written that hell hath no fury like a woman- not gay man- scorned. don't take my word for that, look it up.
i prefer to walk in Peace and Love, having received what feels like more than my share of Almighty's Mercy and Grace. despite you, i plan to do my part to keep those fruit of the Spirit in place.
hope my efforts to clarify what i think help your Understanding.
@QLB, some of the "Black" babies in foster care are born to white and other women. just as BO gets pinned on US...
so do other ww's babies.
factor in that fun fact when you are throwing such stats around. that was a part of my point with the lesbian story. it is a loooong tradition for ww to sex BM then discard the evidence/babies that come as a result of the behavior. so the horrified lesbians make perfect sense to me. again, i think someone thought it might be funny...the likelihood of that type of mix up just doesn't fly for me.
@Black Anon that folk can't believe is Black- Much Love. do you. all Black folk don't think, believe, nor act the same. which is perfectly human + ok.
12:23pm- LOL! i been sounding that alarm for a minute. no one seems to hear nor even know what a semite is...
they just keep very quiet on what is clear as day. fearful of being anti.
i speak as a Shemite, written of in Scriptures:)

"What is the biggest grouping of kids aborted?"
ReplyDeleteAmericans.
I see my anonymous friend has given up on actual debating and taken to straight up ad homs.
ReplyDeletePar for the course, I suppose.
@Bill-
ReplyDeletei think if all things were reported equally, folk would find that there are more aborted white babies...
just as there are more white folk on welfare, on drugs, etc.
it is a by product of there being more white folk.
i know
i know

ReplyDeleteThe "holy woman" continues to make stuff up.
A while back a commenter said that 'The Holocaust' occurred because Jews in pre-war Germany owned many, if not most, of the banks in pre-war Germany. This person suggested that the 6 million dead Jews (gypsies and gays were also gassed during that period) deserved to be gassed because they had used underhanded methods (as Jews allegedly always do) to obtain their wealth.
You, FP, agreed with the aforementioned commenter. But we already know you don't like Jews.
A few years ago a black woman murdered a white woman by stabbing her multiple times. You wrote a long winded comment explaining how the black woman was justified in killing the white woman because, well, because she was white. White women historically being the most vicious oppressors of black women and all.

ReplyDeleteAnon 9:28.. your response brought tears to my eyes. It seems that that moment- "I am Black and I am proud"- left so quickly. I appreciate that someone else know the feeling of being proud about the BLACK race. Never was my intentions to bring grief to the white people that was caught up in the misery of racism.
ReplyDeleteAfter the War, I went to NCCU where the mantra was "keep your head to the sky". We were the first young adult generation post Civil Rights. I guess I and others were so glad that "thank God Iss free" that the work of being free was overlooked. I don't know what day that spirit of being prideful left (escaped). I always think that beware what was given freely. I think that there were a flood of gifts that allowed us to take out feet off the gas.
Thank you for sharing a prideful moment.
Anon3:09pm, I am treading lightly on your comments to FP because I don't want to speak for anybody here. But the desire to be devoted to the 'Principle of Truth' seems to be rather low.
ReplyDeleteYou have the love for telling bold faced lies without hesitancy or reservations. Then you post it for all to see. Why do you do that? You smear yourself when you do that. Pray to have your hatred; and need for vengeful retaliations be removed from your heart. It's not a good look.

Is that you FP?
Anon 3:09 PM here. I was going to make this a separate comment but somehow it was attached to the 3:09 PM comment:
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago a white woman was stabbed multiple times by her black woman employee in New York City. FP wrote a long winded comment explaining how the black woman was justified in killing the white woman because, well, because she was white: white women historically being the most vicious oppressors of black women and all. Remember that, FP?
By the way, your "fury" means nothing to me. Just like your Bible means nothing to me. This is the internet. I can say what I want to you just like you can say what you want to me. Deal with it.
Field, this is an example of why I am opposed to institutionalizing homosexuality in the currently structured society. These two lesbian women who were granted recognition of their intent to establish a marriage substructure as defined in the traditionally institutionalized structure of American society - have shown instead a steadfast determination to create a transmogrified version of the traditional family relationships as defined and expected in the family substructures of society.
ReplyDeletePrior to taking their marriage vows Cramblett had been successfully impregnated from a sperm bank and was pregnant at the time of her marriage to Zinkon. Five months later Cramblett called her host sperm bank and requested sperm from her (Cramblett) donor by set aside for the purpose of the future impregnation of Zinkon, her partner in marriage. Forget the donor racial mix-up problem - here is where it becomes a problem for currently structured American society.
Assume that Cramblett had a child (A) and Zinkon had a child (B) from the sperm of the same donor - what would be the legal relationship of A to B? Would A and B have the same last name on their birth certificates? Would child A acknowledge Cramblett as its mother, whereas child B would acknowledge Zinkon as its mother? If you follow my questions you will see that virtually every role designation between individuals comprising the Cramblett/Zinkon family unit will be assigned in an effort to establish some similarity with the well-known traditional family substructures. Therefore the respective family designations (father, mother, daughter, and son) within the Cramblett/Zinkon family of necessity will be non-natural and just mere expedients, used for the sake of conjuring up some attempt towards conformance with the traditional definitions of the accepted family substructure.
Whereas social structures in essence comprise the identity of any society - no society can stand or tolerate the existence of large groups of non-compatible substructures within it. Eventually confusion and chaos will create huge internal pressures that can only be relieved by either expulsion of the new social order, or through the breakdown and destruction of the old traditional social structures; out of which the new social substructures will arise, coalesce and recodify normalcy.
@Anon 4:08pm- pretty much. i could not have said it better.

This has been my problem with same-sex marriage as well. It is 'un-natural' and to embrace the 'un-natural' is to accept the destruction of the natural.
This is madness. The institution of marriage is no longer the "natural order" of man and woman. It is now anything goes. Does anyone expect good and order to come out of this? This is weird. It is creepy. And it feels like a soul-destroyer, not to mention the kids who will suffer.
A moron can see this train wreck coming. Yet, we as humans proceed on with our own demise....Crazy!!
Anon - Unfortunately the guys on your Youtube don't have much of a grasp of history. The formation of the National Labor Unions occurred 30-40 years AFTER the Civil War and the end of slavery, largely as a result of industrialization. Black folks were participants and crucial to the formation of many Unions, although after about 1895, some Unions closed their doors to blacks.
