Dallas the "survivalist" and Hugh the superintendent.

Lots of people worried about terror these days. Over in Europe the entire continent is on high alert because of the threat of radical Islamic terrorists

Thing is, though, we have quite a few domestic terrorists in this country. We choose not to focus on them because these terrorists look like the majority of Americans and they do not pose a threat to said majority.

For instance, how many of you know the story of Dallas Horton? Dallas is a domestic terrorist who did some very terrorist- like things, recently.

"In Oklahoma, a white “survivalist” shot a police chief three times in the chest and once in the arm. The shooting did not result in an arrest or charges and the man, identified by local media as 29-year-old Dallas Horton, has been released.

In a press release, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said, “Facts surrounding the case lead agents to believe the man was unaware it was officers who made entry.” But Louis Ross, the Sentinel, Oklahoma police chief who was shot, said that he entered the home after “Washita County 911 received two calls from a man who identified himself as Dallas Horton, and claimed to have a bomb inside the head start school.”

Ross cast doubt on the credibility of Horton’s claim that he didn’t know officers were present, noting that there was “screaming from five officers of the law announcing our presence, requesting to see hands.” Ross only survived the shooting because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He has “massive bruises and welts on his body” and the shot that hit his arm “went clean through.”

a second statement released yesterday the Oklahoma State Bureau Of Investigation said Horton was “fully cooperating with the on-going investigation” and “no traces of explosives were found.”
A Facebook profile identified by Raw Story, that purports to be from a Dallas Horton of Sentinel, contains numerous racist images.

A sign on the front door of Horton’s home says he’s a “Certified zombie killer.” The mayor of Sentinel, Sam Dlugonski, described Horton as a “gun enthusiast” and survivalist. Dlugsonski was familiar with Horton, saying, “I’ve known that kid all of his life.'” [Source]

Wow! Shoot a police officer and all you get is an atta boy, and "I 've known that kid all of his life" from the mayor.

Nice. Some terrorist sure have it good.

Finally, my racism chase takes me to some old familiar grounds.

It's kind of sad that I have to blog about this on the day that we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, but you all need to know that type of people we are still dealing with in this country almost 50 years after he the man was struck down by an assassin's bullet.

"COLLINSVILLE, Alabama -- A school superintendent has determined some 50 high school students will not be allowed to attend the showing of "Selma" Friday morning in Gadsden due to the film's strong language and use of racial slurs.

Hugh Taylor, the superintendent of the DeKalb County Board of Education, denied a request for a Collinsville High School history club--sponsored by teacher Bradley Crawford--to attend the movie, along with other students from Crawford's classes.

hugh taylor.jpgTaylor cites the website "Kids In Mind" when explaining his decision. The site advises that the movie "Selma" has "about 2 F-words (and) 26 derogatory term (sic) for African-Americans."

"I understand the movie has a lot of historical value," Taylor told AL.com Thursday morning. "The request was denied based on language. (The website) told me there were about two F-words in that movie, which I presume may mean more. The school that wanted to go (Collinsville High) is a multicultural school and (the website) said there were going to be 26 African-American connotations, which I thought would probably be inappropriate.

"I deemed this movie in particular inappropriate and that's my job as the head of the school system to make those decisions," he said.

Crawford told AL.com Thursday night that "Mr. Taylor made his decision and we respect it." He said he was unaware of who had first complained to Taylor about the denial.

Taylor is an elected official, a Republican who defeated four other candidates in a 2012 election to replace Charles Warren, who retired after 12 years on the post. Before then, Taylor served as principal at Ruhama Junior High in DeKalb County." [Source]

I suspect that Mr. Taylor might have had some relatives who are on the wrong side of history when it comes to what went down in Selma. That could be his real motivation for not wanting the students to see the movie.

But hey, I am sure that Mr. Taylor and all of his apologists out there will say that his actions have nothing to do with racism. But we know better.

There are lots of people like Hugh Taylor out there in positions of power.

Hopefully it won't be for long.

I think we have reached the saturation point where we realized the American society with guns is a runaway freight train than nobody can stop, except maybe God. But why would He want to save America? It's owned and operated by the devil.

  5. Oklahoma is hands down the most right wing state in the union. That's because it is right wing everywhere. Uniquely, It has no liberal enclaves Anywhere. I'm as unsurprised that a DA Didn't charge this shooting as I would be if that same DA sought life imprisonment for the same suspect for first time possession of a personal use amount of cannibus. Oklahoma, though thoroughly American, is still Sui generis.

Honestly, we don't know for sure.

Yes, he could be a guy who somehow wants to pretend that Jim Crow didn't happen, and the Civil War wasn't about slavery, and all of that rubbish.

But it could also be that he's just extremely stupid.

It's truly shocking how many school boards have banned books in their schools because there is a racial slur somewhere in them. (Huck Finn is one of books most often banned by schools because of the extensive n-bomb dropping.)

That's the simplistic level of comprehension some administrators are operating on: If there's a racial slur anywhere in it, then that automatically makes it racist. There's no appreciation of context, no attempt to discern the difference between "work of art that is about racism" and "work of art that is racist."

I am not making this up. These folks are out there running some of our kids' schools (probably the lousier schools).

The laws in the state of Oklahoma are very different from any other state in America. Maybe enough light will shine on this very very dark evil state where 'tornado alley' is the playground for big league tornadoes.

Have you ever read about the history of Oklahoma? It's not pretty. The story of the death of the American Indians; the story of Geronimo, and the establishment of reservations for the few Indians left from the genocidal acts of the US makes one cringe that humans are capable of such evil. But that evil exists and it's very much an enduring part of the history of America... shoved deep into the unconscious prejudiced hearts of Whites.

The Blacks once established a wealthy community in Tulsa, OK(it was called Black Wall Street by Blacks). The Whites in Oklahoma in conjunction with the police, burned it down, killed many Blacks and drove them away.

Make no mistake, that white mentality toward POC in Oklahoma still lives. Blacks are at the highest risk there.

Have you ever read the history of any part of Africa? Genocide, mass rape, cannibalism, entire populations wiped. It makes you cringe at the depravity humans inflict on each other.

There was once 2 very prosperous countries in modern Africa. Blacks in conjunction with communist groups slaughtered the people who built it and proceeded to turn them into poverty ridden hell holes.

Make no mistake, the black mentality towards anyone not black is still alive. Africa is not safe for anyone that isn't black.

This also applies to majority black cities in the USA. Detroit, Camden, Baltimore, St . Louis, Memphis etc.

  40. "...But Louis Ross, the Sentinel, Oklahoma police chief who was shot...." (emphasis in original)

FWIW, I've been to Sentinel OK for work a few times; it's just an hour and a half or two down the road from me. No real comment there, other than that it's a typical, struggling, drying-up, rural Oklahoma town, beyond even the exurbs of the metro areas or those rural towns w/ large gov't facilities (universities, military bases, and the like).

FWIW, I wholeheartedly agree w/ your post, Field.

What you might not know from this post (or even the conveniently-provided local OKNews link) and that I think is meaningful, is that the police chief is black--it's a picture of him that's #4 of 9 in the photo gallery at the news link you gave. Does that change your (or anyone else's) thinking on this item any? To me, it makes it all the more egregious.

And even w/o a charge for shooting a law enforcement officer, I'd certainly think there's still plenty of room for an investigation into the alleged phone-called bomb threat and any ability to carry it out (e.g. looking up such stuff on Teh Internets; shopping for, gathering, storing, stockpiling such materials (yes, I see there were "no traces" after a 2nd investigation--did they search this house immediately? anyplace else?). For a simple guide: what would happen if he wasn't white)?

As far as others' comments on OK having no liberal enclaves anywhere, I'd observe that it depends on your definition.

There are majority-black state house and senate districts in NE OKC and North Tulsa that have been represented by black representatives and senators for decades. The central (old) part of Norman (home to the University of Oklahoma) is pretty reliably white and liberal as are areas near the black areas of the metros. (One, HD 88 in OKC, elected (and multiple-y reelected) the first openly gay state legislator in OK history.)

    So there is that....
