State violence?

C"Conservatives  seem to think that there has been a spike in violence nationwide thanks to president Obama and feral Negroes running wild.

Now while I will acknowledge that there is too much violence in our country, and that there is too much black on black crime in urban areas struggling with generational poverty; I submit to you that we now live in a country where some in law enforcement are no better than the criminal element that they took an oath to protect us from.

"I'm going to punt you in your pussy."

These were the words of LAPD Officer Mary O'Callaghan to Alesia Thomas. Handcuffed with her legs restrained, Alesia can be seen getting punched in the throat by Officer O'Callaghan who then delivered on her promise and kicked her directly in her groin - repeatedly. This was nearly 3 years ago.

It was recorded on the dashcam.
As O'Callaghan jabbed at the woman's throat with her hand, Thomas looked into the camera with wide eyes. The recording captured Thomas, who also had her legs tied with a nylon hobble restraint, repeatedly saying, “I can’t.”
The video showed O’Callaghan raise her boot and strike Thomas, whose body shook in response. A few minutes later, Thomas’ eyes closed and her head fell backward, the video showed. The recording then cut off.

She died at the hospital that evening. The video of her being assaulted was just released for the first time in court and can be seen below.'. [Source]

I know that policing is a dangerous job, but if a perp is handcuffed and you still choose to give them the Rodney King treatment, you might just need to find another line of work.

  2. I believe in a Woman's Right to Choose, and if Officer Mary O'Callaghan chose to kick Alesia Thomas in the vagina until she died, that was her choice alone and no man, Field Negro or not, has a right to question her decision.

That's some terrible math right there. Those numbers suggest that cops are more likely to kill than non-cops, not that you are more likely to be killed BY a cop than by non-cops.

And it also completely ignores the fact that the majority of killings by cops are justified, while virtually none of the killings by non-cops are justified. These two situations are not the same at all.

  6. Unfortunately, America's public-sector workforce is basically a piece of steaming shit, in many respects. This isn't true for all firefighters or all teachers or all police or all municipal workers, but there are far too many bad apples in the public sector. And whatever one's qualms may be with private industry, at least you know that a violent or ignorant motherfucker will most likely be fired. When it comes to police who are abusive, rare is that case that they just crawled out of bed one morning and flipped like Michael Douglas. It's a pattern of behavior that eventually boils over. But because they're protected by unions for all but the most grievance offenses, brutal police walk the streets, hebophilic teachers patrol the halls of schools, thieving, messy and incompetent men and women perform overpriced, under-performing repairs and services for parks and roads, and the list goes on.

Hey, if you're an asshole who wants authority but don't feel like going through the rigmarole of politics, pass a simple exam, have at least a level 6 of physical fitness, make sure you're not a criminal, and make your way onto a police force. Then you really get to kick some ass.

A few guys I went to school with ended up becoming town police or county sheriffs. They all have one thing in common: They were dicks and punks in school, and they're asshole police.

There's something about America that rubs me the wrong way. We don't vet the people we allow to serve our public interests. We allow politicians to purchase votes every cycle, and we turn a blind eye to all the horrible teachers being herded into failing schools and all the many abusive assholes being thrown onto the police force.

It's our money, so it should be our say-so. But most people, myself included, don't do much of anything about it...

This is no hoax. Colonel Sanders has risen from the grave. It happened shortly after the Baltimore Riots in which several Maryland Chicken Restaurants were damaged. The Colonel was seen staggering from the cemetery says "Boy Howdy! Ifen they're attackin' chicken I'm willin' ta fight!" He then attacked a bystander, ate his brains, remarked it was "finger linkin' good" and then when to his old mansion for some coffee, a shower and a fresh, white suite. This is serious. I mean serious. If you see the Colonel, run!!!

Twenty-nine shot, nine dead over Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore.

When residential segregation, restrictive covenants, and Jim Crow reigned in Baltimore, were Memorial Day weekends in the city a bloodbath?

Thurgood Marshall, the first black Supreme Court justice, graduated from a high school in Sandtown, which now leads all of Maryland in the number of residents who are in prison. Billie Holiday, who grew up near the neighborhood, is honored with a statue etched with a crow to honor the struggle under Jim Crow laws.

But since those laws were repealed, how have the blacks of Baltimore fared?

The West Baltimore that 80-year-old Helena Hicks knew as a girl was a lively enclave of black homeowners forced to live together because of segregation. Even then, before anyone called it Sandtown-Winchester, Hicks said, the area was so overcrowded and under-served that children went to high school in shifts. Hers was 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Despite the indignities of segregation, she said, there was a strong sense of community. Some of the police lived in the neighborhood; Hicks doesn’t remember seeing them carry guns. Everything residents needed was within walking distance, she recalled: dry cleaners, a library, a funeral home, a pediatrician, the Jewish butcher who accepted ration cards.

At the site of the CVS that was torched and looted during the Freddie Gray riots, she said, there stood a movie theater that blacks in her day had to picket for entrance. Hicks became a local civil rights icon herself when, in 1955, she and six other college students staged an impromptu sit-in at Read’s Drug Store, a move that would help pave the way for the official desegregation of Baltimore.

And then they all lived happily ever after.

Treating blacks like second class citizens was wrong. We can never go back to those days.

But ending restrictive covenants was also wrong, as was not letting people live in their own neighborhoods and have their own schools. Set that right, and the whites will return to the cities, jobs and economic development will follow, and Memorial Day weekends won't have double digit body counts.

  32. "America's public-sector workforce is basically a piece of steaming shit"
I wonder if this commenter has ever worked in public service. I began a career in EMS 5 years ago at the age of 57. Before that I had retired from another successful career. Like many, I sat in my home safe and secure and passed judgement upon those who were on duty 24/7/365 protecting and serving their communities. . . police, paramedics, firefighters. When I began in EMS I was simply looking for a vehicle to practice healthcare at a late point in life. What I got was an amazing education in healthcare and public service.
I learned that almost every law enforcement officer I have encountered will cover my ass and step between me and any patient or citizen intend on doing me harm right down to taking the bullet. I have seen so many explosive situations that could have turned out very bad, but were saved by the cool actions and words of a law enforcement officer. . . all just regular guys putting in their shift time so they can go home.
I have been somewhat amazed to see that almost unanimously, LEOs act in a manner that is totally consistent with the motto "protect and serve."
The stress these guys are under at times is beyond what almost anyone outside of the field could imagine, but through it all they stay calm cool and precise.
Are there bad cops who do stupid and mean ugly things. Of course. Those are the ones we see every day on the news.
but think about this; how many interactions do you think there are between cops and really bad guys every day in this entire country? Now consider; what do you think the ratio of bad encounters, where cops fuck up, is to the good encounters where the cop does good and takes care of a situation in a level headed kind manner? I can tell you, it is almost negligible. . . but I guarantee, if some dumb prick cop fucks up, it will be broadcast across the nation, but the truth is that day in and day out, good cops take care of matters in a calm measured fashion without incident that 90% of you arm chair sociologists, if suddenly put in the same situation, would be screaming "kick his ass!"
That is all. I welcome debate on this topic if Mr. Field doesn't mind.

The modernist, secular, democratic West cannot figure this last part out. Its idiot journalists pooh-pooh the very idea. They call this new State "Isis," after the Egyptian deity. They refuse to call it what it calls itself, or even use its colloquial Arabic acronym, DAISH. Secular democrats are baffled, perplexed, paralyzed in the face of a people who fight for God. The warriors of the Dar Al Islam will keep on fighting until they are killed, and when they are killed, that's when they'll stop. So until we're willing to kill them and open their lands to Western colonization (this has already been tried), then we will just have to deal with ISIS as part of our new reality, along with the new reality of Kurdistan and the new reality that Libya, Iraq and Syria no longer exist, and several other places are about to no longer exist

Police Chief James Craig said at a Tuesday media conference that he’d avoid getting gas late at night in the city unless he had to, and he urged residents to be careful at the pump, according to Tom Greenwood of The Detroit News.

“I wouldn’t, but if I had to, I would,” Craig said. “But I’d probably be very aware of my surroundings.”

Craig’s commented after a driver was killed early Monday evening while trying to flee a carjackihg attempt at an east-side gas station.

    1) Maybe you didn't come up and work in Suitland, where it's my experience to have met so many bad employees, and then in Northern Virginia, where I live now, where police and sheriffs are jerks and teachers suck ass and the damn trashmen can't even tip your blue bin without shattering the top, leaving it in the street, and ripping the bag open and spilling trash all over the lawn.

    2) Maybe you didn't read the part where I clearly said not ALL of those employees, but enough to where the bad apples are protected by unions.

    3) Maybe it's something an honest person, with no skin in the game, can deduce after seeing every single day examples of abusive police and abusive teachers, not to even mention the teachers whose salaries are 10K over the median yet they fail annually to pass even half their students on to the next grade without the aid of social promotion. Maybe an honest person can see the state of parks and roadways in their town or county, and then view the public workers on "lunch" from 10 a.m. 'til 3 p.m. and draw the conclusion that, "Hey, WTF are they doing?"

    4) Maybe you had a good experience in your line of work in your town. And maybe--contrary to the blacks-and-airborne-osmosis theory believed by most black people on this blog--experiences are not universal; e.g. X =/= X infinitely. A harder pill to swallow for many, but true nevertheless.

    Options abound...

  52. "Globing Warming Alarmists are the real climate change "deniers" because they ascribe all changes to human activity and deny that the climate changes on its own, despite the science that shows it has changed dramatically across earth's history before man existed."

This is of course nonsense, for the following reasons

    1. Science predicted that CO2 levels would warm the Earth. CO2 levels have risen and lo and behold the Earth is getting warmer. Denialists need to explain why it is that the prediction is correct, why does;t a 35% increase in CO2 raise the temperature, if their predicts that it will?

    2. Secondly Denialists need to explain what would drive these alleged "natural cycles" of there's if not CO2? Because without some sort of energy driving mechanism there can be no change in global energy levels,.

    3. The Milankovich cycles that predict the rise and fall of temperatures that lead to the great ice-ages actually predicts that the world should be getting COOLER at this time rather than warmer. Indeed before the industrial age that was exactly what was happening. Earth had cooled 0.5C in the last 8000 years before the industrial age exactly as Milankovich cycles predict. So why is the Earth getting warmer?

    4. Denialists need to explain why these natural cycles move so slowly (0.5C in 8000 years) compared to the incredible rise in temperatures we are seeing today. Indeed currently the world is heating up TEN TIMES faster than it has ever moved before.

    **
"There has been no warming trend in 18 years, despite this being period when the most CO2 ever was released into the atmosphere. The Global Warming theory has been debunked."

This idiotic claim can easily be debunked with one simple observation and one simple application of high-school level math.

    1. 2014 was the hottest year ever, according to NOAA and NASA.

    http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/16/2014-hottest-year-on-record-scientists-noaa-nasa.

    2. Even before 2014 global warming had not stopped. Pre 2014 the hottest year ever was the Super-El Nino year of 1998. However just because a super-El Nino had made that year exceptionally hot, the fact that the subsequent years had not been quite so hot, does not mean that global warming had stopped. Six of the ten warmest years in global history took place between 1998 and 2013.

The Global warming stopped 19 years ago ploy only worked if you cherry picked that one single date. Any other year you chose to start from would show global warming. Now with the results for 2014 even this act of intellectual dishonesty has been blown clean out of the water.

What Purple Cow has hysterically screeched is of course nonsense, for the following reasons:

    1. Science predicted that CO2 levels would warm the Earth

Wrong. There has been no warming in over 18 years.

    2. Secondly Denialists need to explain what would drive these alleged "natural cycles" of there's if not CO2?

There are many things. Eccentricities in the earth's orbit and axis (wobble). Changes in solar output cycles. Volcanic activity.

    3. The Milankovich cycles that predict the rise and fall of temperatures that lead to the great ice-ages actually predicts that the world should be getting COOLER at this time rather than warmer.

Wrong again. We are still coming out of the last Ice Age.

    4. Denialists need to explain why these natural cycles move so slowly (0.5C in 8000 years) compared to the incredible rise in temperatures we are seeing today

Because we are in a relatively stable period, near the center of an ice age cycle. Change is quicker at the beginnings and ends of these cycles.

NOAA has been caught multiple times fudging data, in particular making the past look colder so as to inflate claims of modern warming. Which is not happening.

It is not "cherry picking" to point out that there has been no warming over the last 19 years when refuting a theory that says increasing anthropogenic CO2 emissions are responsible for warming. This period of time has seen the greatest release of CO2 in human history, yet has experienced no warming.

    Game over cow.

  60. Ah yes, using Steven Goddard, which is not his real name, as an example of tampering. Even Judith Curry professor of climatology at Georgia Tech and noted climate change skeptic cast doubt on Goddard's interpretation of the data.

    http://judithcurry.com/2014/06/28/skeptical-of-skeptics-is-steve-goddard-right/

Processes change over time and that's what NASA was accounting for when they massaged the data. Temperature recording has changed since 1934 so some adjustments are necessary and only Fox News and other outlets think Goddard's work constitutes some kind of scandal. Keep trying though.

  61. "In June 2014, Goddard attracted considerable media attention for his claims that NASA had manipulated temperature data to make it appear that 1998 was the hottest year in United States history. In fact, he claimed, it was 1934, but NASA had started incorrectly citing 1998 as the hottest year beginning in 2000.[6] Goddard had been promoting these claims for years before this, including in a chapter of a book by Don Easterbrook,[7] but the mainstream media had not paid significant attention to it before then.[8] Those who promoted the claim included Christopher Booker, in a June 21 article in the Daily Telegraph,[9] and Fox News Channel host Steve Doocy three days later in a Fox and Friends segment.

The claim was dismissed by Politifact.com, which rated it as "pants on fire"—its lowest possible rating. Politifact contacted Berkeley Earth scientist Zeke Hausfather, who told them that the problem with Goddard's analysis was that it ignored the changes the network of U.S. weather stations had undergone over the last eighty years.[10] Goddard's claims were also criticized by fellow climate skeptic Anthony Watts, who argued that his assertions of data fabrication were "wrong", and criticized him for using absolute temperatures rather than anomalies in his analysis.[11]

In a response to Politifact on his blog, Goddard argued that while NASA has official reasons for the adjustments they make to temperature data, "their adjustments are highly subjective, and are subject to software and algorithm errors. Politifact’s claim is the result of a failure to understand the topic, for the following reasons. There is no question that the temperature record has been dramatically altered, to turn a long term cooling trend into a long term warming trend. No one disputes this. Anthony Watts was discussing a different specific topic related to missing station data, and has since admitted he was wrong. If you actually contact him, you will find that out."[12]

Noted climate change skeptic Judith Curry characterized Goddard's analysis of NASA's data as "bogus."

  62. "So what happened? Shauna Theel at Media Matters documented the path that this zombie myth took, starting from a fringe denialist blog, making its way up the conservative media echo chamber ladder until it reached media outlets like The Telegraph and Fox News that purportedly care about factually accurate reporting.

Tony Heller, a birther who criticizes climate science under the pseudonym "Steven Goddard," wrote a blog post that claimed "NASA cooled 1934 and warmed 1998, to make 1998 the hottest year in US history instead of 1934." After the Drudge Report promoted a report of this allegation by the conservative British newspaper The Telegraph, conservative media from Breitbart to The Washington Times claimed the data was "fabricated" or "faked." On June 24, Fox & Friends picked it up, claiming that "the U.S. has actually been cooling since the 1930s" but scientists had "faked the numbers".

    http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2014/jun/25/global-warming-zombies-devour-telegraph-fox-news-brains

Let’s take a few more shots at this zombie myth to see if we can send it back to its grave, temporarily.

Scientists make adjustments to remove known biases in the raw data. Average surface temperatures over the continental USA have indeed warmed by more than 1°F since the 1930s.
Even if you don’t trust those adjustments, raw and adjusted global temperature data are nearly identical. The USA represents less than 2% of the Earth’s surface.
On top of that, the warming of the atmosphere only accounts for about 2% of the warming of the planet as a whole. The oceans account for more than 90% of global warming, and have been heating up at a rate equivalent to 2 Hiroshima atomic bomb detonations per second since the 1950s, and 4 per second over the past decade.
Hence this particular myth is based on 2% of 2% of global warming, but it’s not even accurate for that 0.04%. The zombies are suggesting that we should rely on raw data that are known to be riddled with biases, and are claiming that scientific efforts to correct for those biases are part of some vast conspiracy.

Some advice for journalists – the next time you hear a global warming myth that sounds too good to be true, before letting the zombie snack on your brains, check SkepticalScience.com first to see if it’s riddled with scientific debunking bullet wounds."

And for the record once again Tony Heller aka Steven Goddard is not a climate scientist, he has a B.S. in Geology and a masters in Electrical Engineering. Why are the only people "debunking" global warming and doing a bad job of it non atmospheric scientists? No wonder they make so many errors in data interpretation.

    June 6th, 2014 at 8:00 am

I took Goddard to task over this as well in a private email, saying he was very wrong and needed to do better. I also pointed out to him that his initial claim was wronger than wrong, as he was claiming that 40% of USCHN STATIONS were missing.

Predictably, he swept that under the rug, and then proceeded to tell me in email that I don’t know what I’m talking about. Fortunately I saved screen caps from his original post and the edit he made afterwards.

    See:

    Before: http://wattsupwiththat.files.w.....before.png

    After: http://wattsupwiththat.files.w....._after.png

Note the change in wording in the highlighted last sentence.

In case you didn’t know, “Steve Goddard” is a made up name. Supposedly at Heartland ICCC9 he’s going to “out” himself and start using his real name. That should be interesting to watch, I won’t be anywhere near that moment of his.

This, combined with his inability to openly admit to and correct mistakes, is why I booted him from WUWT some years ago, after he refused to admit that his claim about CO2 freezing on the surface of Antarctica couldn’t be possible due to partial pressure of CO2.

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/200.....a-at-113f/

And then when we had an experiment done, he still wouldn’t admit to it.

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/200.....-possible/

And when I pointed out his recent stubborness over the USHCN issues was just like that…he posts this:

    http://stevengoddard.wordpress.....reeze-co2/

He’s hopelessly stubborn, worse than Mann at being able to admit mistakes IMHO.

In his email to me, Watts details the sort of bureaucratic bungling that produces what he thinks is a significant artificial warming signal in the lower 48 temperature records from which he concludes:

It is my view that while NOAA/NCDC is not purposely “fabricating” data, their lack of attention to detail in the process has contributed to a false warming signal in the USA, and they don’t much care about it because it is in line with their expectations of warming. The surface temperature record thus becomes a product of bureaucracy and not of hard science...Never ascribe malice to what can be explained by simple incompetence.

See my earlier reporting on Watts et al.'s U.S. temperature data paper in my article, "Everyone Freaks Out About Two New Climate Change Studies." In response to criticism of that paper Watt and his colleagues have, as noted above, recrunched the data and will release a new paper soon."

Not the point. In fact very revealing.

"No cherry picking, just straight up data that hasn't been "adjusted" by corrupt bureaucrats."

OK, I can see yo're not a serious person. The numbers had to be adjusted do to different techniques used in the 30's as well as the different times and locations of the data. To make it reliable it had to be apples to apples. Wouldn't you want to compare similar information if you were making correlations? We are dealing with serious scientists not "corrupt bureaucrats". How would you go about making sure the numbers from the past were reasonable with the temperature taking methods of today?

If this woman was white, the entire country would be outraged and it would be all over the place. There would be no mistrial. Wait, what am I saying?
