We are all in danger, and the "Gentler War on Drugs"

I saw the video of the police going all Rodney King on that frat boy and gal down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. [Video]

All I have to say is that at some point even these  kids dripping with white privilege will see that if power goes unchecked they, too, will become victims of injustice at some point in their lives.

Now here we have these "normal" college kids waking up to the police gone wild as well.  Let's see if their parents and loved ones become more sympathetic to the plight of young men of color the next time that they see them getting the business from the police in live and living color.

Finally, in case you didn't notice, America has a heroin problem. States with lily white populations have seen an explosion of heroin use over the past few years and it is devastating a lot of these smaller communities far from those evil urban areas.

Of course we know that there will be no draconian drug laws like the ones passed during the crack epidemic that affected mostly poor people and people of color in the inner cities of America.

That won't be the case this time around, and I am quite sure that America will have a different response to this latest drug crisis.

"The New York Times recently published an article titled, “In Heroin Crisis, White Families Seek Gentler War on Drugs.”

In the piece, middle-class white families, mostly from suburbs and small towns, detail their traumatic experiences with heroin addiction, also known as “smack.” One white New Hampshire man interviewed for the piece talks about how he viewed people battling addiction as “junkies” until he recognized their faces in his own high-achieving, privileged daughter.

Here are some revealing numbers from the piece:

* Deaths from heroin rose to 8,260 in 2013, quadrupling since 2000 and aggravating what some were already calling the worst drug-overdose epidemic in United States history.

* Nearly 90 percent of those who tried heroin for the first time in the last decade were white.
No wonder “compassion” is the word of the day.

The article includes the personal and political positions of GOP presidential candidates Carly Fiorina, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom have expressed that there is a need to decriminalize addiction. This is a glaring departure from the policies of the party of Ronald Reagan. It was through his backroom dealings with Nicaragua’s Contras that the war on drugs (pdf) intensified as crack cocaine and guns flooded inner cities, laying the groundwork for mass incarceration that has ravaged black communities; yet, here are his political descendants struggling to frame addiction as the health issue it has always been without making the GOP look like the party of hypocrites that it has always been.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton also has had to step into the breach in an attempt to sanitize the insidious racism that shades her husband’s legacy at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Former President Bill Clinton was complicit in the passage in 1994 of the omnibus crime bill, which included the “Three Strikes Law,” thus expanding the war on drugs. He has since acknowledged and apologized for his role in the devastation that the bill caused for black families, but it’s much too little, much too late.

Hmmm, it seems that the "first black president" wasn't looking out for his constituents after all.

"we know that there will be no draconian drug laws like the ones passed during the crack epidemic that affected mostly poor people and people of color"

It was the "Black community" who demanded draconian drug laws to deal with the "scourge" of crack cocaine and the associated violence over territory.  The Congressional Black Caucus insisted on it, and the executive and judicial branches went all-in on getting crack makers and dealers off the streets.  They gave Blacks everything they asked for.  Refusing would be "racist".

But it turns out you didn't actually want them off the streets.  You wanted "something" done, but nothing that actually involved, you know, preventing the makers and sellers from making and selling (and killing each other, "snitches" and bystanders) because that "put fathers in prison" and stuff.  As it turns out, giving Blacks everything they ask for is also racist.

White people won't be demanding the same extreme responses because they think things through first.  You really are your own worst enemies.

  5. The war on (some) drugs lies at the root of the police problem we are experiencing. Well, that and plain old racism. The police might not feel like they need to over react so often if people didn't hate them so much. People in poor communities fear and distrust police because if you live there, you know someone who has had their life ruined by the police and the courts. That's not something that you can just ask the police to ignore. They are human beings also. I know lots of white drug addicts. What might get some of the right kind of attention is some wealthy white drug addicts. Poor folks tend to be ignored even when they're white. Although wealthy people already have more treatment options, so that might not work either.
Portugal tried decriminalization, and last I heard, it was going rather well.

You made a lot of good points Field. I can't help but remember the cops taking Dylann Roof to Burger King though. And I know it wasn't one of your points, but I see why "all lives matter" is an insult to the Black Lives Matter movement. That's where we're at now. Police brutality against black people is way out of proportion.

But it is also true that things like the militarization of the police should be of concern to everyone. There is an urban legend that the FEMA camps were built in case too many people saw through the 9/11 inside job. I don't know why more people didn't. Things like videos of the collapse of Building 7 and the Larry Silverstein confession are dead giveaways. Then after a year of telling us how ISIS sells little girls into sex slavery, etc. all of a sudden Russia is killing "good terrorists. It's only a matter of time before people wake up. I just hope it doesn't cut into my computer time here at the camp real bad when they do.

James you are missing the point. Which is, it doesn't matter what the black community wants. Did the black community want draconian drug laws? Maybe, but that is not why we got them. And only now that "White Families Seek Gentler War On Drugs" do we see the likes of Fat Jesus Christie and Jeb Can Fix It! now getting in touch with their inner drug addict.

Just like we know there won't be majority white cities destroyed, no national organized white gangs created and there won't be 1000+ murders a year because of this alleged problem.

That is why there will be a different response to this alleged crisis.

But of course field won't be honest and he will play the race card...

Black lives DO matter, if you take their lives seriously. Some people are just ignorant to their own blockages to raising the consciousness of Americans that "BLM". Calling Blacks 'blahs' is one of them. That is as degrading as any thing James Bold could call us.

The trouble with Negroes who demean and deface their own is they are part of the racist problem against Blacks. However, they are so self-centered in themselves they could give a flying fuck how it impacts their own people.

PilotX is far more dangerous to black dignity than any white racist could ever be. But Blacks have known Negroes who love to sabotage their own because they believe White is superior and therefore it's ok to call us what the wm calls us.

White people do not want to hear anything about race pathology or moral philosophy now that the the problem is heroin in their communities.
