"At Monday night's debate, Donald Trump was called out for stiffing the people who work for him. Trump has been accused of failing to pay hundreds of contractors. And so far, he hasn't seemed very sorry. When asked about failing to pay someone by Hillary Clinton this week, Trump replied, "Maybe he didn't do a good job and I was unsatisfied with his work."I take that attack personally. I'm one of the many small business owners who've been used by Trump, exploited and forced to suffer a loss because of his corporation's shady practices.
My relationship with Trump began in 1989, when he asked me to supply several grand and upright pianos to his then-new Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City. I'd been running a music store for more than 30 years at that point, selling instruments to local schools and residents. My business was very much a family affair (my grandsons still run the store). And I had a great relationship with my customers -- no one had ever failed to pay.
But when I requested payment, the Trump corporation hemmed and hawed. Its executives avoided my calls and crafted excuses. After a couple of months, I got a letter telling me that the casino was short on funds. They would pay 70 percent of what they owed me. There was no negotiating. I didn't know what to do -- I couldn't afford to sue the Trump corporation, and I needed money to pay my piano suppliers. So I took the $70,000.
Losing $30,000 was a big hit to me and my family. The profit from Trump was meant to be a big part of my salary for the year. So I made much less. There was no money to help grow my business. I had fewer pianos in the showroom and a smaller advertising budget. Because of Trump, my store stagnated for a couple of years. It made me feel really bad, like I'd been taken advantage of. I was embarrassed.
Today, when I hear Trump brag about paying small business owners less than he agreed, I get angry. He's always suggesting that the people who worked for him didn't do the right job, didn't complete their work on time, that something was wrong. But I delivered quality pianos, tuned and ready to go. I did everything right. And then Trump cheated me. It's a callous way to do business.
Trump keeps saying that it's time we got a businessman to run the country. Of course, I think it's important to find someone who can bolster the economy. But I also think we need a president who cares about small business owners, and about honoring his commitments. That's not Trump."

For me it was the tragic story of the Venezuelan beauty pageant winner who, when she gained 60 pounds, was told she was overweight by Mr. Trump, in his capacity as director of the pageant.
I had been concerned with Mrs. Clinton's 40 year record of lying, corruption, and world-scale criminal behavior as well as her gross incompetence in every position of authority she ever occupied, but no more. All of that pales in comparison to the semi-coherent accounting of a woman accused of a driving get-away car in a murder attempt and later trying to kill a judge.

Speaking of desperation looks like Illinois is trying out voter suppression. Republicans sued to stop same day registration because they say it unfairly discriminates against smaller rural counties BUT 1. the law has been in place since 2014 which gave them plenty of time to challenge it and 2. it was not implemented in rural counties by mandate because they claimed it would cost too much to do so so the law excluded them from having to participate. The state's attorney general is fighting it, as she should and this goes to show ya that they want to steal this joker by hook or crook.

The difference is that since the cost of healthcare, much like auto body repair, has been priced out of reach of the average income citizen by the insurance companies, most of those citizens can't pay for it without insurance.

Immigration, has essentially come in three waves. An initial surge which resulted in the founding of the country and the conquering of the East Coast. The country was nearly all native-born in the earlier 19th century. Following that was a chunk of mass immigration that resulted in a lot of social problems and laws like the Immigration Act of 1924 (which mostly shutdown incoming numbers), and the current 'Reconquista' of the US.
As others have said, diversity + overcrowding = war, and it isn't like the US has a bunch of Swiss engineers pouring in. The national argument should be about whether borders make sense. Government debt, healthcare, and fat beauty queens can wait for a minute since social policy is going to largely depend on the size of the population and to what extent top-down control of the people is going to be necessary due to a lack of a common philosophy.

ReplyDeleteI worked for 32 years before I had a stroke in 2008. That was eight and a half years ago, and despite working my ass off EVERY DAY to recover, I still haven't made it back to work yet. I will, one day, but so far, nothing. After I got out of the hospital, I was lucky enough to live somewhere with a treadmill (which I never did well with) and an elliptical trainer, which I worked out on six times a day for three years. I still exercise and push the boundaries of my disability every day. It will happen, because I will make it happen, but it takes time.
Now let's talk about healthcare. If I had had access to a regular doctor for regular checkups, I would have known that between 2004 (the last time I saw a doctor and had my blood pressure checked) and 2008 (when I had my stroke) my blood pressure had increased from 125/80 to 165/100. Armed with that knowledge, I could have started taking the drugs that keep my blood pressure under control right now, and avoided having the stroke altogether. So for the price of a few regular doctor visits and some prescription medicine, the taxpayers could have saved the quarter million dollars my hospitalization and rehab cost them, the year of state disability I collected, and the seven years (so far) of social security disability I have collected. And add in the income and payroll taxes I would have paid since 2008, and all in all the taxpayers, that is, you, would have gotten a much better deal by providing a low-wage worker (me) with some cheap access to healthcare before the expensive healthcare became necessary.
Or I could have just fucked off and died. But before you endorse that option, please remember that not only could it be you, some day it will be you, and everyone you care about.

There is a lot of ignorance on display here, and although there is really no need to respond to to posters such as that anon or Yisheng who write things like "Apefrica" or "whootiemoo" just to get a reaction, occasionally one needs to remind people of their childishness. A large percentage of the comments are just thrown out there with no thought, like piece of dung.
A lot of white people feel powerless and beleaguered in modern America. Whites are not permitted the same speech rights as non-whites. They use an open forum such as this to vent in a reactionary way. People like Yisheng are just covering up their insecurities by demeaning others.
