There is definitely going to be a war if Trump isn’t removed from office so the nuke deal can be salvaged.
Without the deal, Iran will restart its nuclear weapons program, and Israel will go to war to eliminate it (which seems to be their preferred approach in any case).
I might be fine with that, if the result was that Israel and Iran would destroy each other while we watched from the sidelines. That’s not what will happen, though. Instead, we will get sucked into what will be a huge war, because Israel is the unofficial 51st state of the union.

The accusation against him was dismissed, so legally, has no history of proven misconduct. I think he should and will keep the job, unless there are other shoes yet to drop.

So I was driving in my car today after 3:00 p.m. Not sure what show it was on NPR, but Gina Haspel was being grilled by democratic senator and then the next clip was Olympia Snowe, the last surviving republican politician on the national level with a conscience.

It sounded like something from the Nuremburg trials. She was only acting in accordance with the law as defined by failed Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez. The democrat accused her of a legalistic justification of her actions. She could only respond that her parents brought her up properly. The point of the line of questioning was where was her moral compass when she allowed waterboarding.
So then Olympia Snowe begins interrogating her. What I remember was that Gina Haspel ordered the destruction of ninety-two tapes of torture carried out on one suspect by the CIA. Senator Snowe was unclear on just who was depicted on the ninety-two tapes. She though that it might have involved several suspects. In a rare moment of candor, Ms. Haspel corrected Senator Snow. "It was ninety-two tapes of the torture of one suspect."
Senator Snowe say, "Well, thank you for that."
The bitch from hell is simply impervious to the fact that she ordered torture on more than one hundred occasions. And she was the one who attempted to destroy the evidence. She gave some typical flimsy excuse like the faces of the CIA agents doing the torturing were clearly visible so she had to destroy the tapes for national security.

ReplyDeleteThere used to be a "Festival at the Lake" for about ten years, but they stopped doing it after folks got too scared to show up and it only drew 20,000 people, which isn't enough to pay for it.
There was a riot (read that the OPD closed in and started rousting people until they got sick of it) in '93 or '94 and I rode through the middle of it on an AC transit bus on my way home from work. A bunch of pissed off recently pepper sprayed black kids got on the bus at one end of the lake and rode it to the other end and got off... they were pissed and it seemed kinda dicey for a minute, but I just wrapped the strap to my tool bag around my wrist so I could swing it if I had to, but nothing like that happened. They just got off on the other side of where the OPD was losing their shit and went back about their business.
So I'm not surprised that there was an incident there or a community response. We do like to party here, but apparently a bunch of us also like to riot. They throw a riot for the stupidest of reasons and sometimes no reason at all, but mostly the media has a hard time telling the difference between a party and a riot when they write about them. Most of them don't amount to much, but apparently make a good topic for the local news.
It's pretty down by the lake, but I haven't been down there for a while.
