He was acquitted of other charges of rape of a person incapable of giving consent, and oral copulation of a person incapable of giving consent. Stubblefield was remanded to jail without bail after the verdict was read.

"The victim has struggled her whole life with learning disabilities and challenges to be self-sufficient," Rosen said. "If we are not fighting for her, then who are we fighting for? Yes, the drug is banned for this use.
Because it does not work; it even seems to be dangerous in the specific context of COVID; and prescriptions written for people fearful of COVID take away supplies of it from people who actually need it for Lupus, a disease the drug can successfully treat.
The FDA does not make regulatory decisions based on "your physician believes it will help you." It makes decisions based on evidence derived from large-scale research and medical consensus.
Individual bad and/or unethical doctors exist. Your doctor might suck. Your doctor might not know what they're doing. Your doctor might be the "demon sperm" lady. So the choice isn't only up to her.
Leaving decision-making to medically uneducated members of the general public or to irresponsible, worst-of-the-worst doctors -- as you seem to want -- is not good healthcare policy.
Your god and your religion must be very flimsy indeed if it needs to be supported by the state to survive.
Hydroxychloroquine doesn't help people with covid, and in some cases it kills them.
Now, with 150.000 dead and infections in exponential growth in the sun belt, it's important to try and figure out what actually works to stop it, and hydroxychloroquine ain't it.
Also, the vaccine, when it arrives, probably won't be universally effective. It most likely will be more like the flu vaccine, blocking infection in just over half the cases and blocking the most severe symptoms in most of those who do get sick despite being vaccinated.
Efforts at a therapeutic are continuing apace, and may be the way we finally get a handle on the pandemic, if we ever do.
Until then, our behavior is the only tool in our box to stop or slow the spread, and right wing conspiracy theories and disinformation are hindering its use to the point that they are killing people every day.
Someone dies of covid in America every minute at this point, and it's only getting worse, while Fergus and the goddamn Republicans are trying as hard as they can to get everyone to ignore it and pretend everything is just fine.
Which shows you what "just fine" looks like to them.

Dana Stubblefield, 49, was found guilty of luring a developmentally disabled woman to his Morgan Hill home in April 2015 with a promise of a babysitting job after contacting her through a babysitting website. He faces 15 years to life in prison.
The former defensive tackle, who was with the 49ers for seven years, was found guilty by a jury on charges of rape by force using a firearm, oral copulation by force, and false imprisonment, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office. He was acquitted of other charges of rape of a person incapable of giving consent, and oral copulation of a person incapable of giving consent.
Stubblefield was remanded to jail without bail after the verdict was read.
Santa Clara County's District Attorney Jeff Rosen called the ruling a "triumph of resilience" in a statement issued Monday.
"The victim has struggled her whole life with learning disabilities and challenges to be self-sufficient," Rosen said. "If we are not fighting for her, then who are we fighting for? It has been a long road for this remarkable woman and we are thankful to the jury for providing her some closure and, for our community, justice after an unconscionable and violent crime."
Allen Sawyer, Stubblefield's attorney, said he "firmly believes" his client is innocent. They plan to appeal the ruling.
He also said there were "unprecedented jury trial circumstances" due to Covid-19 that inhibited Stubblefield from receiving a fair due process.
"It was very difficult for jurors to try to recall what evidence was presented months ago," Sawyer told CNN Monday. "The jury was in panel in January and it stopped for two months because of Covid, then it stopped again for weeks on time."
Sawyer said that it's a "very difficult time" for his client and family, but Stubblefield is "resilient."
Stubblefield was the 49ers' first round draft pick in 1993. From 1993 to 2003, he spent a total of seven years with the San Francisco 49ers, three years with the Washington Football Team, and one year with the Oakland Raiders as a defensive tackle.

Yes, the drug is banned for this use.
Because it does not work; it even seems to be dangerous in the specific context of COVID; and prescriptions written for people fearful of COVID take away supplies of it from people who actually need it for Lupus, a disease the drug can successfully treat.
The FDA does not make regulatory decisions based on "your physician believes it will help you." It makes decisions based on evidence derived from large-scale research and medical consensus.
Individual bad and/or unethical doctors exist. Your doctor might suck. Your doctor might not know what they're doing. Your doctor might be the "demon sperm" lady. So the choice isn't only up to her.
Leaving decision-making to medically uneducated members of the general public or to irresponsible, worst-of-the-worst doctors -- as you seem to want -- is not good healthcare policy.

ReplyDeleteHydroxychloroquine doesn't help people with covid, and in some cases it kills them.
Now, with 150.000 dead and infections in exponential growth in the sun belt, it's important to try and figure out what actually works to stop it, and hydroxychloroquine ain't it.
Also, the vaccine, when it arrives, probably won't be universally effective. It most likely will be more like the flu vaccine, blocking infection in just over half the cases and blocking the most severe symptoms in most of those who do get sick despite being vaccinated.
Efforts at a therapeutic are continuing apace, and may be the way we finally get a handle on the pandemic, if we ever do.
Until then, our behavior is the only tool in our box to stop or slow the spread, and right wing conspiracy theories and disinformation are hindering its use to the point that they are killing people every day.
Someone dies of covid in America every minute at this point, and it's only getting worse, while Fergus and the goddamn Republicans are trying as hard as they can to get everyone to ignore it and pretend everything is just fine.
Which shows you what "just fine" looks like to them.
