Hang on just a little longer.

There are just a few hours to go before America's long nightmare is over. The last four years have been pure hell for those of you who value democracy and believe that America might have been on the right track to fulfilling her dream of becoming a perfect union before this train wreck came along.

Donald J. trump has been a disaster in so many ways that just trying to list them all in one blog post would be pretty much impossible. He has fractured the country in ways not seen since the Civil War, and he has emboldened racists to act out their darkest tendencies in unimaginable ways. Is anyone surprised, then, that he is going out with the lowest approval rating of any other president in history? I know that I am not. All of you who held your noses and voted for him because of his tax cuts and deregulations should be looking at yourselves in the mirror. You should be asking yourselves: Was it worth it? I know what the families of 400,000 dead Americans will say: It was not.

But before we go all in on Donald trump, let's not forget that he could not have done all of this without the help of the weak spineless republican politicians who allowed him to exercise his power unchecked. They sold their souls to be close to power, and this is where it got us. Now, incredibly, they are all trying to jump ship and pretend that we weren't paying attention to their slavish sycophantic behavior over the past four years. Today, Mitch McConnell declared on the senate floor, that Mr. trump is pretty much responsible for the invasion on the nation's capitol by a bunch of thugs and insurrectionist on January 6th. Where has this kind of bravado been for the past four years?  Watch as  republicans now pretend that the last four years never happened. Good luck with that. I, for one, will be here to remind them every single day that it did.

It frankly still amazes me that Americans elected this man. He was too boorish and incompetent to be a  dog catcher let alone the president of the United States. And yet he pulled it off. He was shielded in part by his whiteness, his gender, and the perception that he had wealth and power. Barack Obama could only dream of doing the things that he did and got away with.

Mr. trump and his birther wife will not be attending the Biden inauguration, and that ought to tell you all you need to know about the character of the man and the woman he married. Try and remember how they were both treated by the Obamas when they were transitioning to the White House. Even after the vicious and racist birther lie that they fomented against him. They Obamas were still gracious and respectful to them. trump and his birther wife are so petty and vindictive that they will not show the same type of grace and courtesy to the Bidens.

Honestly, I just want them gone. The less we see and hear from Mr. trump and his family over the next few years the better. I don't know what the republicans will do, because he is still very much a part of their party, and his cult members and followers have their own ideas about what the republican party should look like. The others will do what  Mckay Coppins writing in The Atlantic say they will do.

"People who spent years coddling the president will recast themselves as voices of conscience, or whitewash their relationship with Trump altogether. Policy makers who abandoned their dedication to “fiscal responsibility” and “limited government” will rediscover a passion for these timeless conservative principles. Some may dress up their revisionism in the rhetoric of “healing” and “moving forward,” but the strategy will be clear—to escape accountability by taking advantage of America’s notoriously short political memory. Doug Heye, a longtime GOP strategist..... responded with a litany of episodes to memory-hole. “Republicans will want to forget the constant chaos, the lies, the double-dealing, the hiring of family, and the escalating rhetoric that incited hate for four years [and] directly led to what happened at the Capitol,” Basically, any of those things that we never would have let an Obama or Clinton get away with, but constantly justified to ourselves in the name of judges.”

Just a few more hours to go.

I can see the light already.

"Mr. trump and his birther wife will not be attending the Biden inauguration, and that ought to tell you all you need to know about the character of the man and the woman he married."

To be fair, there is really no way he could have attended the inauguration and participated in all the rituals associated with a normal handoff of power. Not after months of "stop the steal," endless bogus lawsuit, and the storming of the Capitol by his goons. You can't act graciously to the next guy if you've claimed he isn't really the next guy, by virtue of vote-rigging.

However, to really class things up, he went above and beyond and has planned to throw himself a separate going-away party on Inauguration Day, because that's just how huge an asshole he is. I hadn't really expected that, but it fits perfectly with his character.

  5. The nightmare may be over, but the flashbacks will continue for years.

And this nightmare may well recur, until white Americans face up to the truth of their past.

(And I know from personal experience. I'm one of them.)

Two Fox News execs got fired for telling the truth. Which is exactly how you'd expect things would go.

The two of them made the call to announce that Joe Biden won the state of Arizona in the election -- because, duh, he did! -- and that obviously cannot be tolerated on the network that exists to protect Trump's fee-fees.

Well, I must admit I am surprised that Trump didn't self-pardon. (Unless he is saving that as some kind of last-minute surprise tomorrow morning.) I truly didn't think he had it in him to resist this sleazy move, whether it would hold up in court or not. So I guess this means he may be spending some time in federal prison, not just state prison, eh?

He did, however, pardon Steve Bannon, for ripping off the wingnut chumps who idiotically gave money to the border wall GoFundMe.

    And he pardoned Lil Wayne.

I'm sure there will be some other names of undeserving people announced shortly, after journalists have had a chance to pore over the list.

  12. As far as the piece in The Atlantic, I'll believe it when I see it. Last time I checked, the cadre of worms in congress were still very frightened of angering the bully and even more afraid of being blacklisted out of office. If Marco Rubio really is going to be a tower of strength in throwing off the Trump hangover, I would love to see it. Maybe he could be on SNL where we can grudgingly welcome him back to the human race. But only if he is willing to make fun of himself. I'm talking full Ricky Ricardo where he does a song and dance singing Cuban Pete or at least a comedy routine with one of the SNL girls as Lucille Ball.

As I reflect on the Trump presidency it is really hitting me that the evil spell really is being lifted from our nation. I hate that fucking demon ever since Charlottesville. And I was pretty much horrified by every single desperate act of his presidency starting with the misguided tariffs that he gleefully wielded as a "cudgel" to bring even our closest allies to the bargaining table, forcing even leadership in Mexico and Canada to kowtow to him like a jealous king just to preserve their trade relationships with the U.S. This reckless policy carelessly inflicted immediate harm on American small machine and tool manufacturing as well as up and down the automotive industry from every dealership to every parts dealer and every repair shop and even to Harley-Davidson. The senseless and counter-productive trade war with China that escalated to the level of making them a dangerous military threat to the U.S. was a terrible Trump outcome. People seem to forget that we were not at war with China before Trump.

The worst fucking thing except (insert what you hate the most about his presidency i.e. tax heist, environmental degradations, Iran pursuing nuclear weapons at warp speed, ending DACA ad infinitum) is this:

Think about how many people were involved in American foreign policy machine going back to the Marshall Plan and the beginning of the United Nations and then think literally of firing the entire State Department, to reduce our foreign policy, so critical to world stability, prosperity and peace, with the irrational whims and prejudices of a hopelessly self-delusional, narcissistic idiot! No ambassadors. Embassy staff gutted. Ironically, his choices for Secretary of State were among the more capable members of his staff, but then good guy, Rex Tillerson was edged out only to be replaced by super-neocon war pig, Mike Pompeo.

Truly a reign of terror. Fuck that squirmy weasel. Put him in a luxury hotel in Dubai or the U.A.E. and them send in some Saudi goons to render him to a dark prison somewhere in Egypt or Turkey. After the ridiculous effort to keep him in power culminating in the hostile takeover of the U.S. Capitol while it was in full session will truly crown the Trump presidency as a terroristic threat against the people of the United States.

Since white supremacists, xenophobes and misogynoirs would rather sign up for root canals than coexist in a just society, may We, the People, remain diligent in these political and social efforts, never taking the power of democracy for granted again.

Given a significant part of the electorate is disappointed mostly due to the lying manipulations of far alt-right personalities and politicians, hopefully, this same time next year, the road to recovery presided over by a Biden-Harris administration will alleviate the concerns of those who are really not on board with moderate/progressive policies.

What a major relief that in less than five hours our nation will finally commence restoring our American government and institutions to sanity.

    A long, long time ago
I can still remember how my freedom used to make me smile
And I knew well I had my chance
and I could work hard and advance
And maybe I’d be happy for a while

But Twenty twenty made me shiver
    With all the info delivered
    Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

    I can't remember if I cried
Daily reading about this wild ride
But something touched me deep inside
    The day the freedom died

So bye, bye, Watch American Die
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Did you read the books Orwell
And the visions he did foretell
of how our future would go?
Now can you believe it’s all come true?
Is there a way to save me and you?
and can you teach me how to fight this show ?

Well, I know that they’re in love with him
'Cause I saw how they fellated him on CNN
They all had nothing to lose
Man, the lack of laws just gives me the blues

Back in the day we were teenage broncin' bucks
Working hard not giving a fuck
We didn’t know we’d be out of luck
    The day the freedom died

I started singing bye, bye, Watch American Die
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the day freedom died
This'll be the day freedom died

  23. Preface, 1/14/2021:

I wrote the following essay four years ago, at the start of the Trump administration. Note the following passage:

As an example of ruling-class dignity culture, I offer the Obama administration. As an example of ruling-class honor culture, I offer the Trump administration. I predict that we will see, in retrospect, proof of the political, economic, and moral superiority of dignity culture.

This prediction has been borne out in full.

    ***************

    On the Dignity/Honor Paradox

There is a curious paradox involving what anthropologists call ‘dignity culture’ and ‘honor culture’. To define terms: dignity culture says that respect for a person is a right, owed to all; honor culture says that respect is a privilege that one must earn. Dignity culture preaches equality; honor culture preaches distinctions. Dignity culture sanctions by guilt; the feeling of wrongdoing. Honor culture sanctions by shame; the feeling of disapproval.

In political/economic terms, honor culture corresponds to ruthless oligarchy, and dignity culture corresponds to the guaranteed income. In psychological terms, honor cultures display pride masking fear, and dignity cultures display idealism masking vanity.

Dignity culture requires a respected authority to enforce justice; honor culture thrives in societies lacking a trusted rule of law. Dignity cultures tend to be lawful, orderly, lenient, wealthy, peaceful, and creative. Honor cultures tend to lack these virtues.

So going by results, dignity culture is a superior culture, even though it deplores the very concept of superiority! And though honor culture demands that all within it earn respect, honor culture itself does not earn such respect!

Dignity culture earns the kind of respect that it cannot claim, and honor culture claims the kind of respect that it cannot earn. That is the Dignity/Honor Paradox.
The Dignity/Honor Paradox can be parodied by two political caricatures; the Limousine Liberal, who preaches that all are equal, and thus joins the elite; and her dark shadow the Deplorable, who preaches that there are inferior persons, and proves it by his own example. The first rises by vanity, the second falls by pride.

Of course all cultures are a mixture of dignity and honor; some respect is owed to all, plus there is extra that must be earned. And of course the traits of the individual need not be that of the collective. Individual altruism can serve collective egotism, for example when those within a group treat each other as equals, but all others as inferior.

And of course the direction of causation is ambiguous. Do dignity-culture citizens have rights because they are rich, or are they rich because they have rights? Are honor cultures lawless because they are backwards, or are they backwards because they are lawless?

The ‘character’ of a nation is really that of its ruling class; so after any important political change, the national character will be seen to have changed. As an example of ruling-class dignity culture, I offer the Obama administration. As an example of ruling-class honor culture, I offer the Trump administration. I predict that we will see, in retrospect, proof of the political, economic, and moral superiority of dignity culture.

Dignity culture needs a respected central authority to administer justice; this authority’s high officials must possess personal honor to do their jobs right. Therefore dignity culture, which denies that there are superior and inferior persons or stations, must have superior persons in its superior stations. That is the paradox of dignity culture; it’s based upon contradiction. Egalitarianism requires meritocracy.

Whereas honor culture is home-made justice, necessary if you cannot get justice from the Man. This is if the Man himself is not just. His own lack of honor makes the pursuit of honor necessary for everyone under his misrule. That is the paradox of honor culture; it’s based upon hypocrisy. Top honor has no honor.

Haven't you seen what the rioters did at and in the Capitol? Trump is directly responsible for that.

Haven't you seen what the rioters did in Portland, and Minneapolis, and Kenosha, and Chicago?  Those who call themselves "Democrats" are directly responsible for that.  Literally BILLIONS of dollars in damages and irreplacable things gone, and for what?

You need to be purged from America.

Most rioters didn’t consider themselves Democrats; they are poor people so cynical about politics that they don’t vote at all.

Or, like the black-clad anarchist/antifa types who attacked Democratic Party HQ in Portland just days ago, they are too left-wing to ever vote for the Democrats. They’re the dickheads lying to themselves that “both parties are equally bad.”

And “irreplaceable things”? Like sweatpants and electronics looted from a Target? Give me a break. Hardly in the same league with Nazis trying to overthrow the government.

Your post is entirely off the major issue and would be called a red- herring in any logical debate. No major politicians are begging us to forgive and forget whatever damage that other riots may have caused.

We are talking here about the January 6, 2021 sedition and insurrection - a coordinated attempt to overthrow the government of the United States. We are talking about a mob shouting, "Where's Pence"(the vice President of the United States) with the intent to kill him if they found him.

The rioting insurrectionists also hunted Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, while they urinated and defecated in the offices of the Capitol Building. Furthermore, five people are now dead because of their actions.

So don't try to compare this event to the demonstrations for equal justice for all that occurred since George Floyd was murdered. That dog won't hunt.

Really?  Trump supporters have been hunted literally across the country for trifling matters.  Contrast this with rioters who've been acting with impunity, released on NO bail and charges dropped, since the inauguration in 2017.  Contrast the ridiculous charges against Kyle Rittenhouse with the pass given to those who were trying to kill him.  You call THAT "equal justice"?

You wonder why we think you're insane?  Wonder no more.

No you idiot, the medical examiner determined and published the facts surrounding Floyd's condition.  These facts include:

"B. No injuries of anterior muscles of neck or laryngeal structures
"C. No scalp soft tissue, skull, or brain injuries
"D. No chest wall soft tissue injuries, rib fractures (other than a single rib fracture from CPR), vertebral column injuries, or visceral injuries
"E. Incision and subcutaneous dissection of posterior and lateral neck, shoulders, back, flanks, and buttocks negative for occult trauma"

    The toxicology summary includes:

    "A.
"Blood drug and novel psychoactive substances screens:
    "1. Fentanyl 11 ng/mL
    "2. Norfentanyl 5.6 ng/mL"

Anyone with half a brain can look up the lethal level of fentanyl.  The Surgeon General declares the average lethal dose of fentanyl as 9.96 ng/mL, which George Floyd comfortably exceeded (fentanyl plus its metabolite, norfentanyl).

You don't use even half a brain.  You let others do your thinking.

No where in the HCME autopsy does it say Floyd died of an overdose.

Backpedalling again.  The phrase "cause of death" doesn't appear in the autopsy report either.  It's an autopsy report, not a death certificate.  But the lack of any sort of trauma to his head, neck or spine proves that he was NOT harmed in the least by the police, and thus could not have been murdered.

Here's something that DOES appear in the autopsy report:

"Signs associated with fentanyl toxicity include severe respiratory depression, seizures, hypotension, coma and death. In fatalities from fentanyl, blood concentrations are variable and have been reported as low as 3 ng/mL."

But you'll pull anything you need to out of your ass to avoid having to admit the truth.

  94. Gambler, pay no attention to this lying troll. Floyd did not die of an OD and the ME never said he did die of an OD.

    IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT
Two autopsies concluded that George Floyd’s death was a homicide.

The Hennepin County medical examiner said that Floyd bloodwork showed a “fatal level of fentanyl,” according to court documents, but he didn’t say this killed him.

See the sources for this fact-check
A blog post being shared on Facebook has a headline that contradicts reality in the killing of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck on May 25.

"Coroner saying George Floyd died of drug overdose, not police brutality," the Aug. 27 post says.

As evidence, it cites comments from Andrew Baker, the chief medical examiner in Hennepin County, who performed an autopsy on Floyd. But Baker didn’t say that Floyd died of a drug overdose.

The medical examiner’s office ruled that the manner of Floyd’s death was homicide.

The cause of death, according to the medical examiner, was "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression." The report goes on to say that Floyd "experienced a cardiopulmonary arrest while being restrained" by law enforcement officers.

What that means: Floyd’s heart stopped as Chauvin restrained him.
