One of my favorite songs of all time is Copacabana by Barry Manilow. (Don't judge) Yes, I love Barry Manilow. Anywhoo, there is a verse in that song that I keep thinking about every time I see the felon holding a presser or giving a speech. "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl, but that was thirty years ago when they used to have a show, now it's a disco, but not for Lola, still in the dress she used to wear faded feathers in her hair. She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind. She lost her youth and she lost her Tony, now she's lost her mind."
The felon's shtick has gotten so old, that even some of his MAGA faithful are starting to be turned off. He is like that comedian with the same old cringy and grown-worthy jokes. They used to be funny to some people, but now nobody is laughing at them anymore.
I was watching his press conference the other day, and dare I say it? I actually felt sorry for the felon. The lies, the desperation, it was all, in a word, cringeworthy. This Harris/Walz ticket has really thrown the felon and his people for a loop. The guy is clearly shook. Harris and Walz are sucking up all the oxygen, and are now, officially, the cool kids on the block. They drew twenty thousand people in Arizona last night, and it was one hundred degrees outside. Standing room only. Meanwhile, the felon is having a hard time finding enough people to fill a venue in...wait for it.. Bozeman, Montana. The same slurred speech, the same sloppy takes and lies. It has to be getting old, even for the MAGA cultists. Now that he is officially the only really old guy in the race, it's putting the focus on his mental acuity and stamina.
Speaking of guys in the race, Kamala has picked hers. As someone who actually knows Josh Shapiro, (Yes, I'm name dropping) I was a bit disappointed. I mean who is this Walz fellow? But then I watched his speech at the Temple University rally in Philly, and I was like...good pick, Kamala. I tweeted this right after I watched him: Walz is that dude you meet at an airport bar, and you almost miss your flight because of him. Instant chemistry and likeability. As my sister would say: He is good people.
Not so much for the felon's VP pick. JD is scary, and, yes, weird. So much so, that even though you know it's probably not true, you almost want to believe that couch story. The thought of the vice president of the United States getting his rocks off on a Rooms To Go catalog is not something I ever want to think about again. Ever.
So we're off. The race is on to November. Expect it to get really ugly from here. The felon is trying to stay out of jail, and winning is the only hope that he has. The switch by the democrats has really thrown the felon for a loop. He was hoping for Uncle Joe, instead he got younger, darker, Kamala. The ugliness started already. The felon has already injected his racist birther like challenges to his opponent's racial identity. And his post election plans are already in place to thwart the wishes of the American people by any means necessary. The Russians and Elon Musk will do everything in their powers to make sure that happens. What this all means is that if Kamala Harris wins, she better win by a lot. If you think January 6th was bad, wait until you see what happens this time.
In Manilow's song, Lola could only sit and drink herself half-blind. Not this aging lounge act. He will be doing a lot more than drinking and lamenting his losses. He will be kicking and screaming right to the bitter end.
“Speaking of guys in the race, Kamala has picked hers. As someone who actually knows Josh Shapiro, (Yes, I'm name dropping) I was a bit disappointed.”
ReplyDeleteLots of people have pointed out that Shapiro’s Achilles heel is Israel. Shapiro has a record as an unconditional supporter of Israel, and that has become, to say the least, a problematic stance in the Democratic Party.
Harris and Walz will have to walk a tightrope on this issue because they need to draw votes from people who are still ride-or-die for Israel and people who view Israel’s government as war criminals and want to yank all support from them. Shapiro can’t really walk that tightrope.
Trump’s opposition researchers will be scrambling like mad to dig up some dirt on either Harris or Walz, some error or misstep they can inflate into a full-fledged scandal.
ReplyDeleteThe Harris campaign won’t have any such difficulties. Trump has not helped himself with his VP pick. Vance has a deep back catalog of flip-flops and creepy quotes that are ready-made for Harris-Walz attack ads. He is a repellent individual.
OK, a few things: First, Fergus isn't the president this time, so his menu of election fuckery options is far more limited, and so far all 25 attempts to avoid certifying an election have failed. They can disrupt what Marc Elias calls the pageantry of democracy, but not stop it.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I do have a certain amount of empathy for Fergus as the consequences of his choices line up in front of him, but that is tempered by the knowledge that that half-billion dollars he inherited could have fueled literally any other choice on the planet (other than the possession of a soul or a shred of human decency) and so the consequences he faces are all his doing.
Three: I don't think that racism will ever truly go out of style in these divided states, but his offerings of it are getting tiresome, even for his own people. Like how he misremembered a helicopter incident as having been with one Black California politician whose name he could remember and not the actual Black California politician whose name he could not. I guess we are left to wonder whether they all really are the same to him, except that Willie Brown is a feeble line of attack his campaign is using against Ms. Harris. If I could offer him any advice on that topic, I think it would be that taking on Willie Brown has never been a good idea in this here golden state...

"I LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVE" Wikileaks" - Insane Clown
ReplyDeleteNo doubt Kamala has turned things around from Biden. While Insane Clown looks punch drunk. But we take Insane Clown lightly at our peril. Insane Clown is a career scammer and let's face it is very good at what he does. Some of those punches are landing in particular inflation and the border. Inflation should be easy. Insane Clown bears full responsibility for his clownish pandemic response. Border security is more tricky. Kamala will be making a big mistake if she tries to distance herself from the Biden administration or tries to recite at length her job description as far as the border. Blaming Insane Clown for singlehandedly killing the bipartisan border security bill is a good start but she can do more than that. The Nazi Party has been thwarting border security for years notably in 2013 when the Gang Of 8 bill passed the Senate easily and would have passed in the House as well but Boo Hoo Boehner refused to allow it to be voted on. Ethnic cleansing is a labor of love for the Nazi Party and that includes all immigrants both legal and illegal. Anyone ever see a Confederate flag at a Democrat rally? Insane Clown has 100% Nazi support. But thus far Kamala has adopted a campaign strategy of politics as usual, platitudes and pom poms. It is working for her so far but let's not pop the champagne just yet.

Delete“Violent crime in Chicago continues to rise as mayor moves to cut police force and Foxx fails to prosecute”
ReplyDeleteHomicides in Chicago have been falling every year for the last three years, and are on target to be back to pre-pandemic levels by the end of the year. Which, by the way, also puts the per capita homicide rate around where it was back in the low-crime era of the late ‘60s.
Only a few crimes — robberies — are actually “up” recently.
Kim Foxx has never “failed to prosecute” serious felonies, as a general policy. This is right-wing propaganda. You might find one or two individual mishandled cases, but the idea that Chicago is some kind of free-for-all, rape and murder zone is a fantasy. ReplyDeleteTeam Trump regularly pump out fake news and Photoshopped pictures, so the MAGA cultists think everyone does, too. What a warped view of the world.
Fergus and his idiot hordes are dumbfounded to be running against someone who is genuinely popular and are in full denial mode about it. His supporters say the election is going fine and he will win in a landslide, while the polls say otherwise and the latest polling says voters trust Harris more than Fergus with the economy. That was perhaps his last stronghold and fully illegitimate at that. Now he's back to what? Build the wall? He utterly failed to build the wall, and Mexico did not, in fact, pay for it. Crowd sizes? Look at the pictures of the same venue in Atlanta where he and Harris both held rallies. His bullshit isn't working like it used to because a lot of folks are hip to it.
ReplyDeleteAnd a lot of people are just sick of his denigration of their country. It's tiresome and it's wrong, and he offers nothing in return for swallowing it whole besides keeping him out of prison, which polls about even between wanting to see him get prison time for the case he was already convicted in. Substantially more favor prison for him should he be convicted of the J6 insurrection or the classified documents case.
His base is still with him, but any other support is quickly evaporating. So he is already working on calling the upcoming election stolen. He has loyalists in place in county election boards and has gotten new rules passed in Georgia that allow for "reasonable inquiry" before the certification of elections, but so far such attempts are 0 and 25 at halting certification.
Can he win anyway? Remains to be seen. But the extent to which he has been freaking the fuck out makes it seem that he is less than confident about that.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it is so much that people love Kamala Harris. She's not that popular herself, although there is room for her to grow. Hopefully, she will conduct a better campaign than she did in the 2020 primaries, with the entire Democratic Party apparatus behind her.
Harris' momentum really shows that Trump's advantage was entirely comprised of his UNpopularity being eclipsed by the greater UNpopularity of Biden. And the unpopularity of Biden was comprised of some combination of his age-related decline as well as, unfortunately, the success of some Republican smears unfairly blaming Biden for post-pandemic inflation and crime spikes, etc, not Democratic policies overall.
With Biden out of the race, Trump can't keep (falsely and ridiculously) portraying himself to voters as the lesser evil in the election. He stands out as the stinky turd that he is.

ReplyDeleteJ.D. Vance on ‘Postmenopausal Females’
August 14, 2024 at 5:46 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 382 Comments
While appearing on “The Portal” podcast in April 2020, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) agreed with host Eric Weinstein’s claim that “postmenopausal females” exist just to help take care of children, the Heartland Signal reports.
He also agreed when the host said grandparents helping raise children is a “weird, unadvertised feature of marrying an Indian woman.”
------
No JD, you blithering idiot, grandparents and extended family helping raise children was how children got raised before the advent of the "nuclear family", which was a post-industrial revolution attempt to make the workforce more mobile.
-Doug in Sugar Pine
“While appearing on ‘The Portal’ podcast in April 2020, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) agreed with host Eric Weinstein’s claim that ‘postmenopausal females’ exist just to help take care of children, the Heartland Signal reports.”
ReplyDeleteI mean, there legitimately is a theory in human biology that menopause might exist because, after a certain point, helping raise your grandkids may possibly be more evolutionarily beneficial for the species than continuing to produce further kids of your own. Or something like that. JD Vance’s buddy didn’t make it up.
Not sure biologists would frame it in the way he did, though, that postmenopausal women “just exist” to be grandmas.
Also, it’s quite weird that Vance would say that only Indian grandparents help raise their grandkids. Vance was raised by his own very white grandparents because his dad split and his mom was a junkie.

-Doug in Sugar Pine
“Maybe the reason Fergus has such a problem with crowd sizes is that he doesn't understand how numbers work”
ReplyDeleteBesides failing math class (you can’t have more than 100% of a finite thing, dude, except as a figure of speech: “giving 110%”), Trump is also implying something dishonest, as usual.
It is true that the number of recently created jobs is basically equal to the number of jobs taken by immigrants. But Trump is making the usual false suggestion that immigrants are “stealing jobs.”
When, actually, the opposite is true. Native-born workers are already at full employment. There is no large pool of native-born Americans looking for jobs and unable to get them. So as jobs have been created, the only possible way to fill them is to let in immigrants.
If you confront right-wingers with this inconvenient fact, they will either:
a) Go into denial mode and retreat into a fantasy world where facts don’t matter
or
b) Turn into JD Vance and demand all (white) women be forced to become full-time baby-makers and prodyce more babies so that we won’t have to admit those icky brown people (ew!) to fill our job openings

ReplyDeleteFlorida’s government semi-ignored Florida law to prevent ex-cons from voting.
Despite the passage of a state referendum saying felons should get their voting rights back once they’ve served their time, Republicans engaged in a bad-faith reading of the law to say it requires that felons should still not get their rights back until they’ve paid the state of Florida any money it is owed, such as fines or court costs.
Since newly released felons tend to be broke, many will not be able to meet this condition. (A condition which, again, Republicans pulled out of their butts, since the law says nothing about this.)
floriduh also says they have no idea which former felons owe the state how much money so they effectively keep legal voters off the voter rolls.

“If you can find a head to bite off of a fetus before ten weeks, you need to lay off of the psychedelics:”
ReplyDeleteThe photos in that article may be a little misleading because I think they contain a bunch of extraneous tissue besides the fetus itself. However, it is absolutely true that something like 80% of abortions take place before 10 weeks gestation, when the fetus doesn’t look very person-like.
And even after the fetus does start to look quite person-like, it still won’t have a developed nervous system for many more weeks, so there is no reason to define it as a person, unless you apply legally illegitimate religious criteria like asserting it has a soul, etc.
Almost all late term abortions are the result of fetal abnormalities that doom the fetus and endanger the life and health of the mother. The ones that aren't are mostly the result of how difficult the goddamn government has made it to obtain an abortion.
ReplyDeleteThe first mention of abortion in the literature is from 1550 BC, and pretty much nobody cared about it until the goddamn Republicans turned it into a wedge issue. "They're killing babies!!!!"

ReplyDeleteFor a guy who claims Kamala Harris is dumb, drumpfuck the dumbfuck thinks the top of his ear is the lobe.
What?
Delete“Banks may have made a major financial boo boo and are fearing the worst.”
ReplyDeleteThey should have known better. Musk tried to back out of buying Twitter, but couldn’t, because he’d already signed a contract. That might have been a clue that he didn’t know what he was doing.
“Black woman uses common sense:”
ReplyDeleteNo, she is the dumbest woman alive.
She thinks Kamala Harris literally has entirely Indian ancestry. Even Trump didn’t go that far. He told lies about how Harris “identifies”; he didn’t deny that her father was Jamaican.
“DNC convention put up border walls better than what the USA has on the southern border.”
ReplyDeleteNo, they are ordinary security barriers like at any public event.
And no barriers are going to absolutely prevent migrants from crossing the southern US border, unless you guard every single mile of them. Any idea of the payroll costs for guarding all 2,000 miles of border? Astronomical.
Thanks, no. Include me out.
“No EVs at the DNC. All the dem elites came in limos and suvs.”
ReplyDeleteBecause cab and limo companies in Chicago aren’t running fleets of EVs because the range of EVs isn’t practical for use in cabs and limos? (Not with today’s technology, anyway.)
We know which political party with ties to Nazis and fascists is against evs and charging stations.
DeleteYeah, but the troll isn’t advocating for use of EVs; he’s making a dumb point that — aha! —Democrats secretly don’t believe in them, either, because see: they’re not even taking EVs to the convention. Gotcha, libs!
DeleteWhich actually proves nothing, because almost none of the attendees will have driven their own personal cars to the convention. They’ll have flown into Chicago and taken cabs/limos to the convention. And the cab/limo companies don’t use EVs because EVs don’t work well for their business (yet). But EVs work just fine as personal vehicles for most people.
Virtually every right-wing talking point is an idiotic, flimsy lie that instantly falls apart on closer inspection.
“Because cab and limo companies in Chicago aren’t running fleets of EVs because the range of EVs isn’t practical for use in cabs and limos?”
ReplyDeleteShould have said EV recharge times are not practical for use in cabs and limos. It’s more that, and the fact that not enough recharging stations have yet been built, than the range.

Raygun appointed judge lays all blame for Breonna Taylor's death on her boyfriend and exonerates guilty pigs..
ReplyDeletehttps://www.cbsnews.com/news/breonna-taylor-kenneth-walker-judge-dismisses-officer-charges/
“Raygun appointed judge lays all blame for Breonna Taylor's death on her boyfriend and exonerates guilty pigs..”
ReplyDelete“Exonerates” is inaccurate. They’re still charged with several other felonies.
It sounds like the most serious charges against them may have been a stretch by the prosecutors in the first place. These involved “using a dangerous weapon to deprive Taylor of her Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable search.” The problem being that the cops who were charged with this offense were the ones who wrote the warrant, not the ones who served it, so they didn’t personally use any weapon, dangerous or otherwise. And the cops who did serve the warrant only pulled out their weapons after Taylor’s boyfriend started shooting at them.
The judge ruled the law as written did not apply to this situation. After removing the “using a dangerous weapon” part, this charge drops down to a misdemeanor.
Well the Democrats put on quite the show at the United Center. You have to give them credit for all the polished phoniness, blatant lies and empty platitudes they spewed out for four days. What a barf fest! Their audience was composed of the most gullible people on earth. They cheered & screamed after every speaker’s five to ten words like trained seals. Everybody had a bag of signs to hold up when prompted to do so.
ReplyDeleteThe first night they had old Joe give his forced swan song to get rid of him. After that Coconut Kamala and Tampon Tim expounded on how they would get things done even though the Coconut Queen spent the last 3 & 1/2 years doing nothing. All of the politicians that put on this freak show are charlatans to say the least. I got to thinking that these Democrats are using the templates of the old TV preachers/evangelists for their control of the audience and voters. Check out one of the best, Rev Ike Eikerenkoetter, on a youtube video. People will believe politicians that have that persuasive charisma even thought they are poor problem solvers.
I don’t remember any of the speakers/politicians giving any credit to all the law enforcement officers that enabled them to get into the convention safely without bodily injury. The least they could all do would be to thank you. And maybe a nice party for all of you! They certainly have the money! Stay safe.

“He had a Thompson with a drum magazine behind a glass case in his poolroom and some kids broke in and stole it.”
ReplyDeleteMan, he should’ve disabled it if he was going to just keep it as a trophy. I’m not an expert on gun laws or anything, but I would expect that it would be legal to possess without any special license, so long as it couldn’t fire.
That's what my friend Larry, who legally owns lots of machine guns and military gear said. His firearms license paperwork is bound and weighs pounds and he gets quarterly inspections from the ATF. I'm not sure Ray saw the Thompson as only a trophy. He was a muckety- muck in the Clampers and grew pot up in the hills before it was legal to do that.

“The goddamn Republicans give weird people a bad name.”
ReplyDeleteTucker Carlson advocating ball-tanning to his viewers to boost their masculinity is genuinely weird (and hilarious).
But as I’ve said before, it seems wildly inadequate to refer to many of the beliefs of the wingnut-o-sphere as simply “weird.”
Believing climate change isn’t real is way worse than weird.
Believing brown-skinned immigrants are being “imported” to persecute white people and destroy the US is way worse than weird.
Believing secret Muslims in the federal government are planning on imposing American Shariah law is way worse than weird.
Believing forest fires are started by Jewish space lasers is way worse than weird.
Believing abortion clinics regularly deliver full-term, healthy babies and then bash their skulls in with a hammer so their body parts can be sold for a profit is way worse than weird.
Believing drag queens wear women’s clothes because that makes it easier to rape your daughter is way worse than weird.
These are not charming eccentricities, like wearing a bolo tie or giving all of your kids quirky names that start with the same letter. The correct descriptor for many of these beliefs is not “weird.” I’m gonna have to go with something closer to “destructive” or “evil.”
Well, your side believes men can get pregnant and give birth.

Fergus reindicted:
ReplyDelete(NewsNation) — A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has issued a superseding indictment against former President Donald Trump under four charges relating to his trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Special Counsel Jack Smith charged Trump again in the federal court in Washington, D.C., on felony charges claiming he worked to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the run-up to the violent riot by his supporters in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
The four-count indictment includes the same initial charges that were brought in the original indictment. These include conspiracy to defraud the United States government and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, referring to the congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.
The indictment follows a Supreme Court ruling that allows immunity for sitting presidents in certain circumstances.

“Fuck the New York fucking Times in its nose with a frozen earthworm. They published a list of 21 ‘questions’ they think Kamala Harris needs to answer that read like a goddamn Fergus campaign ad.”
ReplyDeleteReally? Most of these questions seem to me like the normal sort of stuff that a candidate usually gets asked in an interview or at a debate.
Apart from a couple of the “law and order” questions that have a sneery, unfair Fox News sort of vibe — like, “Hey, lady, aren’t you really pro-open-borders, and pro-crime? Just admit it, you lawless, woke commie.” Which is frankly extra irritating, given her former career as a prosecutor.
As to whether the Times will ask Trump substantive questions about politics … I mean, we know why he won’t. He’d only respond by spewing lies and hate. And besides, we already know what kind of president he’d be, because he’s already been president before. What will he do, in any given policy area? The dumbest thing, the worst thing. He’s Darth Vader. He’ll build the Death Star. Enough said.
Biden was sworn in as potus in 2021 long after the election was decided. drumpf is a patholgical, lying POS and too effing stoopid to get elected.
ReplyDeleteZuckerberg is groveling to the Republicans and telling them what they want to hear, because he is cowardly and afraid of them. “Waah, Biden was mean to me. He hurt my fee-fees!”
ReplyDeleteThe whole hearing is a sham designed to prove that social media is unfair to Republicans. Which they only think because most social media platforms, except the one run by the Space Incel, have (very limited) restrictions on lying and hate speech. But lying and hate speech is pretty much the fuel that the Republican Party runs on, so they’d like to be free to do even more of it.
So their position is that since Fergus can't or won't give a straight answer to a normal question they don't have to ask him any and publish it before the fucking election, but Kamala Harris is somehow derelict in her duties if she doesn't sit for an interview that will in no measurable way help the campaign she has had to stand up and get in the air in a month?
ReplyDeleteOf course it is. How else are they going to "Hillary's emails" her?
-Doug in Sugar Pine
“So their position is that since Fergus can't or won't give a straight answer to a normal question they don't have to ask him any and publish it before the fucking election”
ReplyDeleteI mean, if they asked him, Trump might well sit down and be interviewed by them. But it will be all insults and lies and nonsense, so what’s the point?
I can see how Kamala Harris’ team would be annoyed by the fact that there’s effectively a double standard. But this is a general problem for the Democrats. They are trying to uphold democratic norms, while the GOP are trying to burn them to the ground. There’s not an easy answer as to how you uphold democracy while not giving the democracy-haters an advantage.
We shouldn’t be in this position; nobody should want a President Trump. But it is what it is. The people who will stand a chance of voting for Harris include a lot of the grown-ups who care about and want her to explain how she will govern. The people who may vote for Trump are mostly angry, drooling morons who only want him to own the libs. As long as enough lib-owning is happening, they don’t seem to care if the country goes to hell in a handbasket.
It’s pretty normal for the NY Times to want to interview Kamala Harris about policy. If I have a criticism about them, it’s not that. I just wish they’d stop publishing pieces by right-wingers for “balance.” I guess they are thinking that their left-leaning and centrist readers should be aware of the thinking on the other side, but I don’t think it’s worth it to slog through “alternative facts” and specious reasoning. There’s no merit in anything on the other side anymore. The Republican Party is a sick, diseased cult without any practical ideas now. Just give me a quick summary. Say, a column entitled: “Here’s What These Jackasses Believe Today.”
ReplyDeleteInstead, the Times publish things like their recent atrocity of an opinion piece by Rich Lowry. The headline? “Trump Can Win on Character”
It’s as bad as you’d expect. No link included because nobody should read such offensively trollish trash.
Everything anon@11:21 said is true, as far as I can tell. But I remember 2016 and I will not sit quietly by while the New York fucking Times does to Kamala Harris what they did to Hillary Clinton.
ReplyDelete-Doug in Sugar Pine
Thank you for the links. I'm not saying that Hillary ran a great campaign. She did not. But the New York fucking Times, secure in their take that she could not lose, fucked with her to try and build credibility as a non-liberal institution during her presidency.
ReplyDeleteThey were wrong then, and I don't see anything to make me think that they are not wrong now. This time we know more about what the stakes are, and god damn it, so should they.
They don't seem to believe that their first amendment mandate comes with any responsibility.

And another thing I can't for the life of me understand why Democrats act all sheepish and allow the Insane Clown Posse to blame them for everything. Afghanistan? Insane Clown freed 5000 Taliban terrorists and was going to order a mass exodus by year end 2020. The few cabinet officials not preoccupied with overturning the election talked Insane Clown into leaving 2500 troops. Inflation? Insane Clown bears full responsibility for his clownish pandemic response and the resulting supply chain bottlenecks and in turn the inflation that resulted. And if Insane Clown is answering questions they can start with why no president has ever needed immunity for his treasonous criminal acts but him, and why immunity to protect an outgoing president from malicious prosecution would even need to be a consideration when the only one who has ever even threatened such a thing is him.
ReplyDelete
