Especially when the stern-looking red-faced driver behind him looks like he's searching for a nice remote spot to shove him into a bog infested with giant flesh-eating snapping turtles.
Seems like I have seen this iconic pose before. "I will lead the way". Educationally superior race will lead the left-out Americans to a solid second class existence. The pose looks like Christopher Columbus (thank you- first grade miseducation) o r George Washington crossing the Delaware river. These "Johnny come lately" immigrants of his race are not the "give me your tired, your poor" immigrants. Unfortunately American just might NEED these smart people. I was celebrating Lebron James "real" giving back to the community. I have waited many decades for an athlete to really uplift his neighborhood with a grand program to educate my people. I am most please that he has the where withal to structure discipline, honesty and community service as entry requirements. When successful, these numbers of graduates surely will have an impact for the Black race: as well as poor whites.
I have a list of 10 things socially I would like to see at my age. Three have been done. You ask about the three: a cure for Hep C, an athlete truly giving back to the neighborhood and a non-white President. I always thought that I would have to win the lottery to send enough students to college.
I know some mean spirited commenters will ask what have you done. Firstly, I sent myself to college after my first stint in the Army. As a freshmen I also married my wife (a sophomore at the time 1973) and paid for her next four years of education. During the next several decades I have helped a sibling as well as nephews/nieces. Forty years later I am still on task. The latest family member will be a junior at North Carolina Wesleyan University. He is working towards being a teacher.
Since Lebron has taken the pressure off me, I may be primed to win the lottery. So if you read that a man is sending 100 students to schools for nurses, lab techs, radiologists and pharmacy.... it will be me. StillaPanther2
Indeed Stilla, education is the answer. I'm glad this is happening too and I know more athletes as well as entertainers will become more philanthropic and contribute also.
Education is costly, and most kids will have to get indebted with student loans in order to finish a profession.
