The Field Negro poll.

Since we are so inundated with polls leading up to this November's election, I figured I would conduct my own internal polling on the subject.

Here goes:

Who will you be voting for this November?

1. Joe Biden

2. Donald Trump.

3. RFK Jr.

4. Cornel West

5. None of the above.

Please explain why you are voting the way you are.

Much appreciated.

    Joe Biden.

Any of the other options is a vote for Trump. Which, in turn, is a vote to (potentially) end US democracy.

  10. I agree with many thoughts here. Pretty much everybody in my family has voted a straight democratic ticket since FDR. I while back I had a friend who grew up on a hacienda in New Mexico speaking Spanish and driving a Model T. He never made any bones about voting a straight ticket. Still I need to point out that when I started voting in 1980, we didn't view republicans with suspicion or distrust. We just thought that democrats were nicer, smarter and cared more about people than republicans. Being liberal has always been a good fit.

And I agree with some here today that Joe Biden has been a terrific president. He has remained true to democratic ideals of prosperity through smart government, student debt forgiveness, fighting for meaningful environmental legislation, gun control, social justice and equal rights. I cannot think of one issue in which Joe Biden has compromised his principals. He is strong and pragmatic. His communication is forceful and direct.

What's more I am fiercely proud of Kamala Harris. I have always liked her since getting to know her as the Attorney General of California. I supported her as U.S. senator. I have always listened to her on the radio for the last ten years. Today I see her radically redefining the role of vice president as she travels and makes public appearances like clockwork. In the past five weeks she has been in Selma Alabama, Munich reassuring European allies and back to D.C. to speak with Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet and to Parkland Florida to talk about Federal programs to help states with red flag laws. She has become the leading spokesperson for a woman's right to choose.

  11. I'll vote Biden. While West would be an interesting choice, Biden is the only viable candidate. Biden, while flawed and justly called out for some of his policies, like Gaza, he has shown himself to care about others. That's a plus.

Republicans have illegal immigration and wokeness on the brain to such an absurd degree that everything they say is turning into a punchline.

A Michigan GOP state legislator got himself very worked up about buses of what he described as “illegal invaders,” which he shared pictures of on Twitter. (Someone should inform him that the folks who are busing migrants around the country happen to be state governors from HIS party.)

It turns out that the passengers in the buses were … the Gonzaga men’s basketball team, in town to play an NCAA tournament game.

I always liked her. It's funny. I never thought of her as any particular race. I did watch a documentary about her life and heard her say and describe how she identifies as black. She was certainly raised among brown and black people.

I troll several blogs where both conservatives and liberals joust. I didn't realize that she was black, or identified as black, until the conservatives pointed it out to me. Of course they said all manner of disgusting and insulting innuendo and falsehoods. But it had never occurred to me that she was black.

But I learned that republicans only recite the principles of Constitution, law, order, truth, national defense, and justice but refuse to defend those same principles. I don’t need to agree on everything by that Biden and Harris support in order to vote from them. The republicans only avoid the “party of traitors” label because the Constitution defines ‘war’ and ‘traitor.’

    ReplyDelete

“I can see at least 5 of the 6 magats saving drumpf's ass.”

Unlikely. As many people have pointed out, Trump is arguing for unlimited presidential immunity, like an emperor. Which means that if the justices accepted this defense, then any president could get away with committing literally any crime, so if Biden didn’t feel like running against Trump, he could just order the CIA to assassinate him and it’d be totally legal.

There’s no way SCOTUS will ever sign off on this, and Trump’s lawyers know this. It’s just a bad faith argument solely intended to drag out the trial, and SCOTUS should have shut it down immediately.

    ReplyDelete

Yeah, because it means she and her fellow members of the farthest-right fringe will have basically nothing to do for the rest of the term until Election Day. The stunt queens are all out of pointless, attention-grabbing stunts. The federal government is funded through Sept. Arms have been issued to support the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. So they will probably vote to save Johnson’s job, and will tell Margie to go pound sand. Her inability to fire Johnson will just further highlight her powerlessness and irrelevancy for the rest of the congressional term.

“IDK. It may be worth it to also vote to vacate to highlight GOP disfunction. The added bonus is they can't pull any stunts during the time they're fighting over a new leader. Win win for Dems.”

Yeah, but having a semi-functional Congress is better than risking having a totally dysfunctional one.

Most of the must-pass legislation, like funding to keep the federal government running or arms for Ukraine, has now been passed, so we can probably get away with a do-nothing legislature for the rest of the year and hope the impasse is broken by the election in the fall. But what if we can’t? What if a real emergency comes up? We just went through one with COVID a few years ago.

It would be nice to have someone in charge who will at least TRY to negotiate with Democrats in good faith and work on legislation where actual common ground exists — which admittedly is not very many places, but still … in a disaster, you’d like to have a leader who cares about preventing total societal collapse. If an MTG type is running things, then literally everything is just an “F U Democrats” opportunity; she just does not care about governing the country at all.

Holy hell, SCOTUS is so completely in the tank for Trump.

No, they haven’t chosen to grant blanket dictatorial immunity to Trump over his efforts to undo the 2020 election. But instead, it looks like they have decided to dick around and pretend there is a serious argument there that must be considered, and so they’re gonna let it ping-pong back and forth between themselves and the lower courts for a few more rounds — instead of what they should do, which is say that his argument is ridiculous and immediately shut it down.

In short, they are actively helping Trump delay his trial, in the hopes it will eventually go away.

    Net neutrality is back, baby!

If you don’t know what net neutrality is or why it matters, Google it. But the short answer is that this is another area where the morons in the Trump administration broke something, and the Biden administration has fixed it.

It was less future presidents they were concerned with, and more future prosecutors. They went full Trump, wringing their hands about the potential danger of theoretical, scary, conspiratorial Deep State Democrats bringing down some innocent, honorable Republican president of tomorrow with fake charges. They were too busy worrying about that to devote any concern to the massive crook who currently heads up their party, not theoretically but in reality, and who already tried to overthrow the government just 3.5 years ago!

Of course, this is all assuming that the wingnut justices actually believe any of their own arguments. I don’t buy that for a second. They just wanted to help Trump by giving him the trial delays he demands, and they came up with whatever excuses would justify this. It’s pure partisanship.

More people take the NYT seriously, that's the difference, and until the goddamn Sulzbergers stop the fucking proto-tabloid bullshit, perhaps that should change a little.

What negative things have they published? I haven’t seen too much recently in the Times, other than griping (some of it justified, some not) about Biden’s handling of the asylum-seeker surge at the border and how it is giving Republicans an opening to attack him.

  108. According to the Politico piece, it's mostly carping about his age and bullshit false equivalence between him and Fergus, but the very fact that AG Sulzberger is holding Biden's refusal of an exclusive interview against his coverage by the "paper of record" is fucking disturbing.

Hmmm. I’ll probably read the Politico piece, but my initial response is skepticism.

I’m sure that the Biden campaign team is genuinely annoyed with liberal-leaning, reputable papers like the NY Times giving even glancing credence to Republican-created phony narratives like Biden’s alleged senility or alleged massive corruption schemes involving Hunter, or whatever other nonsense.

But garden-variety “bothsidesism” is probably a better explanation for this behavior than the Times nefariously trying to extort Biden into granting an interview by intentionally giving him unfavorable coverage until he gives in. Like most establishment media outlets, the Times feels pressured to be “fair” to wingnuts, and this usually results in them indulging shameless wingnut lies, to one degree or another. The root cause of this is just cowardice: Bending over backwards to please wingnuts will never stop their bad-faith whining about “bias”; the only sensible response is to tell the whiners to go to hell and accurately report the facts.

Don’t know if it’s going to help her become Trump’s running mate, but her sharing a story about executing her pet for disobedience does illustrate something disturbing about the Republican Party.

They now view being a mean, ruthless, amoral bastard as a positive attribute to brag about, and an actual job qualification. This is because they have morphed into the party that doesn’t promise to do anything FOR you as a voter, but instead offers to do something TO the people you dislike. They are the party of spite.

Texas Governor Abbott gave a speech in which he warned migrants that they should not try to sneak into his state because the Rio Grande is full of alligators.

Is it conspiratorial of me to suspect Abbott of a secret project to stock the river with alligators? Because that does sound like something he would do. He already tried to put floating barriers sporting razor blades into the Rio Grande, until Biden and the courts forced him to remove them.

It was a puppy. And I don’t believe she said it was rabid, just badly behaved. She described it as “untrainable.” Obviously, the only acceptable Republican response in that situation is to pump it full of lead.

The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money case on Tuesday held the former president in criminal contempt over a series of posts on Truth Social that he said violated a gag order barring any attacks on jurors and witnesses. ... Judge Juan Merchan ruled Trump in contempt for nine violations of his gag order, with a fine of $1,000 for each instance.

Nothing great is going to come out of that state, politically speaking. As much as Democrats were justifiably enraged by Manchin, it’s just not possible to do any better than him in West Virginia, and you should expect to do worse.

To understand why, all you need to know is that Trump won West Virginia with 68% of the vote. In both elections.

The people who thought Hillary's support for $12 an hour instead of $15 an hour got a Christofascist Supreme Court which says that any program which helps minorities is illegal, Churches which preach bigotry have to be given taxpayer money, and the right to abortion removed.
