I got an e-mail from a young buck

after my previous post about Biggie. And the young head basically called me out and told me that I was fronting. He said that I didn't know shit about hip hop, and I didn't really listen to it.

So this morning while I am listening to "Game" and dancehall legend Junior Reid on my I-pod, I had this great idea. Just for the little knuckle head that challenged me, I will interpret the lyrics from Game's "One Blood" for him verse by verse. Here goes:

"I'm Doctor's Advocate nigga Dre shot ya Brought me back from the dead that's why they call him the doctor The Aftermath don't drop them That's why 50 ain't rockin' with him no more it's ok I get it poppin' Whole club rockin'Like a '64 impala Drink chris, throw it up Call the shit hydrolic Then piss in the cup Call the shit hypnotic I bleed Compton Spit crack and shit chronic And you new niggaz ain't shit But new niggaz bathin' ape shoe niggaz I'm talkin to you nigga Bouncin' in da '64 throwin up West Side man Sellin' another 5 million albums Yes I am Fresh like damn This nigga did it again A hundred thousand on his neck L.A. above the brim Inside the lambo in the shotgun with Snoop What would the muthaphukkin West Coast be without one crip and {one Blood}[Chorus] "

TRANSLATION:

I really like Dr. Dre and I advocate for his record label. My career was really down but Dr. Dre basically rescued it. Just because Fifty Cents isn't with that label anymore it's still OK I can more than carry my own. I will rock the entire club like a 1964 Chevy Impala that uses Hydraulics to bounce up and down. I like to drink very expensive champagne and just throw it in the air, and just pee it out. I really love my hometown of Compton, and I really get off on the things I do there like spit out crack cocaine and relieve myself after smoking lots and lots of ganja I don't really like you new artist with Fifties crew, the Gorilla Unit. I am very happy on the West Coast, I sold five million albums, and I am very clean and well put together. I have a very expensive chain around my neck, and I wear a Los Angeles Dodgers cap while riding in a Lamborghini sports car with fellow L.A. rapper, Snoop Doggy Dog. L.A. just wouldn't be L.A. without the crips and the bloods riding together.

"I'm from the West side of the '64 Impala Where niggaz say "Where you from" we'll never say holla Bandanna on the right side Gun on the left side Niggaz in New York know how to throw up the West side Word to Eazy I'm so ill believe me I made room for Jeezy But the rest of you niggaz better be glad you breathin All I need is one reason I'm the kingand Dre said the West coast need me I don't know why you niggaz keep tryin' me Everybody knows I'm the heir to the Aftermath dynasty And I ain't gotta make shit for the club What DJ gonna turn down the 38 snub You 38 and you still rappin ughh I'm 26 nigga so is the dubs On the '07 Hummer Hop out with no bodyguards When the chronic smoke clear all you see is {one Blood}[Chorus]I ain't got no beef with 50 no beef with Ja What's beef when you gettin head in the 6-tray And the double game chainI keep 'em on display Black T-shirt so all you see is the A Turn on the TV and all you see is the A Niggaz better make a dance and try to get radio play Keep on snappin' your fingers I ain't going away I don't regret what I spitcuz I know what I say And niggaz keep talkin about me they don't know when to stop I got the Louis Vuitton belt buckle holdin the glock No beam no silencer I know when to pop Wait til Lil Jon come on and left off a shot I have the number one billboard spot Niggaz stepped on my fingersand I climb right back to the top I'm BIG, I'm Cube, I'm Nas, I'm Pac This aint shit but a warnin til my album drop"

TRANSLATION:

I'm from Los Angeles where we like to ride in old Chevy's, where it's so territorial that we don't just say hi we want to know where you are from. It's so violent here that we keep our guns on our side, because we have our gang colors with us at all times in the form of a handkerchief. It's so deep out here that people in New York know about all the drama that goes on out West. But I am a very good rapper, and I swear on the grave of another famous West Coast rapper that I will allow just a few other rappers to rise to the top with me. And I hope all you other rappers stop provoking me, because it won't take much to make me really mad. And unlike Fifty Cent, I don't have to make music for the club to become famous, all I have to do is put a gun to the DJ's head and force him to play my songs. Fifty Cent is 38 and too old to be rapping, I am only 26 just like the rims on my vehicle. I have a 2007 Hummer and when I go to the clubs I don't even need body guards, I just smoke a lot of ganja.

I don't have a problem with Fifty Cents or Jay Z, what's the use of fighting when you can receive certain sexual pleasures while in your car? And I have two chains that actually display my gang affiliation. I wear a black t -shirt with the Aftermath label on it, and every time you turn on your television all you will see is Atlanta rappers. Other rappers should take a cue from them to try to get their songs to be played on the radio. But then other rappers and people that don't like me keep talking about me and they don't know when to stop. But I am not worried because I keep a nine millimeter fire arm in my designer belt. My firearm doesn't have a silencer or a red light for my aim on it , because I know when to shoot at someone. I usually wait until a loud rapper starts yelling to shoot so that no one can hear the gun shots. I have the number one album again despite some adversity, and I now feel like I am a lot of great rappers all wrapped into one. But this entire song is just a single from my next album, and when my album actually comes out you all will be in some real trouble.

How did I do homey?

***BTW, I want to give some serious props to my girl Alicia Keys for representing for the Yawdies at the AMA Awards show the other night. She had the aforementioned Junior Reid on stage with her, and girlfriend represented with Beenie Man, and Shaka Demus & Pliers as well. Now that's showing the Yawdies some SERIOUS love.

  3. Since the decent days of Salt n Pepa and LL, I don't ever listen to rap crap like this. I rather hip hop R&B. I can't stand gansta rap, it's creating such a stupid destructive attitude among our black people and youth. I hate it. When will some black people realize if they're going to listen to it, at least try to digest it like a fiction book. Put it down and let it go when finished. It actually consumes certain people in their daily lives when it's not even necessary or required.. stupid.

As for dancehall, that's my heart, Alicia needs to sit down somewhere (I swear, something about her, I can't stand that chic). I grew up on dancehall along with soca and calypso. I just pray the Yawdies continue chanting some kind a sense and don't flip the script like rap crap. I can also habla, so I'm also monitoring reggeaton for growing gansta stupidity (Reggeaton - the copy cats of dancehall/hip hop in which general society seemingly prefers to embrace over "black" dancehall).

  4. "As for dancehall, that's my heart, Alicia needs to sit down somewhere..."

Naaw, I have mad love for girlfriend. Leave Alicia alone :)

"As for dancehall, that's my heart.."

Mine too. My old ass grew up listening to artists like U-Roy, Big Youth, and Dillenger down in Jamaica back in the day.

I guess it's why I can't leave hip hop alone. (Sorry A.I.) Most of the cats who were born and raised here, and who are my age, grew up listening to R&B and classic funk. Me, on the other hand, was rocking to King Tubby's Hi Fi in dance halls on the rock.

Fifty is 32. His DOB is 7/6/75. It's funny how these little kids think that they got have good rap now. Game couldn't even get signed in the 90s IMO.

  7. I'm glad you translated that, Field, cause homey had me confused with all the nigga this and that, you know.

Young Bucks will always call out the old buck until the Old Buck administers an ass-whipping to show the Young Buck he still has lessons to learn. I saw that in an Animal Planet documentary about deer - a young buck tried to take over the herd, and the female deer. The Older Buck (with bigger horns) showed up as if to say "What you trying to do, young blood?"

Heads butted for about 10 minutes until the young buck gave up and ran off. The Old Buck raised his leg and pissed on the spot where the young buck stood, buried the spot and looked at the herd like "Yeah, I'm still THE MAN...and don't you forget it."

Your post reminded me of that episode of Animal Planet, LOL.

    Field,
This reminds me of something I read regarding a translation of Biggie's lyrics by a high school student as part of an Ebonics contest. In fact, I may post to my blog...Check it out:

    Lyrics:

First things first, I poppa, freaks all the honeys
    Dummies - playboy bunnies,
    those wantin’ money
Those the ones I like cause they don’t get nathan’
But penetration, unless it smells like sanitation
    Garbage, I turn like doorknobs
Heart throb, never, black and ugly as ever
However, I stay coochied down to the socks
Rings and watch filled with rocks

    TRANSLATION:

As a general rule, I perform deviant sexual acts with women of all kinds, including but not limited to those with limited intellect, nude magazine models, and prostitutes. I particularly enjoy sexual encounters with the latter group as they are generally disappointed in the fact that they only receive penile intercourse and nothing more, unless of course, they douche on a consistent basis. Although I am extremely unattractive, I am able to engage in these types of sexual acts with some regularity. Perhaps my sexuality is somehow related to my fancy and expensive jewelry.

    Lyrics:
And my jam knock in the Mitsubishi
Girls pee pee when they see me, Nava-hoes creep me in they tee pee
As I lay down laws like I lay carpet
Stop it - if you think your gonna make a profit

    TRANSLATION:

I enjoy playing my music loudly on my car stereo. Apparently, women enjoy this also because they become sexually aroused when they see me driving. Oddly enough, when I visit the Native American reservations, some of the more sexually promiscuous Indian women attempt to seduce me in their homes. Their intent is to divest me of my earnings. Such actions are unacceptable.

I was going between what you wrote and the lyrics trying to figure it out. In the 80s I understood DMC, Curtis Blow, PE, LL, Queen, Roxanne S. and others but I must confess most of the time I have no idea what the current crop are saying. Feel the same about the 'ragga' trend in dancehall...loved me some Shabba, Supercat, Mega, Cutty, Buja, and others from the 90s...but an act like Vibez C. I just don't get. Anyway I've been listening to Beres' smooth voice all morning because he sets the mood and keeps me balanced on the job. Peace and good eats!

ken dey set dis to ah back-beat:

When Sherman Burnett Jr. was 13, he got mad at a 6-year-old girl. ... Sherman proceeded to abduct her, stomped, sodomized and attempted to rape the girl, then left her semi-conscious body near railroad tracks not far from her home.

Sherman Burnett Jr. is the youngest inmate ever housed in the St. Louis County jail

At one time, him and his father were both in the same jail at the same time

In June 2005, Burnett had allegedly offered an 11-year-old girl $50 for sex, and threw her brother to the ground when she refused and he intervened. ...

The 38 year old rapper The Game is referring to is actually Jay-Z.

Translation is spot on though; actually, it's rap like this that makes me, a 20 year old black college student, to listen to nothing but R &B and rap when it used to carry a social message.

  18. FN: "What do you know about Mr. Hammond?"

I swear he wrote the first part of "My Wish" just for me...

I cherish every moment that your around
I might not show it cause I can’t find words to say
I try to say I love you but I get tongue tied
I start [to raise] the word and fail in every way

I wish you would stay longer
Bright up my life like Disney World
I wish you would stay longer
But just like magic you were gone

I see him as the Jamaican Teddy P. with a little something extra...must be in the water down there. Back in the day I had like maybe four or five tapes [yes I said tapes], but a few years back I picked up the Can't Stop a Man compilation and I just can't get enough of it.

I tell you what if I wasn't married......

"actually, it's rap like this that makes me, a 20 year old black college student, to listen to nothing but R &B and rap when it used to carry a social message."

Amen. Like hip hoppers abroad, some of the young bloods here in the US are connecting with the old-schoolers who had something serious to say. They're sneaking downstairs and listening to old hip hop. Then they come upstairs questioning commercial rap.

For instance, my young adolescent nephew, after listening to one of my PE CDs(Muse Sick-N-Hour Mess Age)complained about fitty's new CD, saying "Just because you been shot 7 times don't mean you can rap!"

There may be hop for our youth after all.

  27. Great post man.
Old School Hip Hop is the shit. And since my Grandma is from the Carribean I grew up listening to Dance-Hall and Reggae also. The only thing I don't like about living in Dallas is that there are no station dedicated to reggae out here.
This garbage that gets airtime now every hour on the hour makes me sick. I have to admit though, Some of the beats are tight, but there is no lyrical content. Example: What the hell is that Negro Soilder Boy talking about? What the hell is all that "yullll" shit?
I will stick to my station on XM radio, "The Rhyme". It is nothing but old school Hip hop.
Or maybe Field, we are all getting old.
    You ever thought of that?

Field, great translation but you did take some lyrics very literally when they are just metophors to get the point accross of how "bad" the person is. Also, I question whether or not you have always been a hip hop fan since you seem to listen to current trendy garbage. Why are you even listening to this? He sucks! You could have at least translated something more lyrically advanced like Black Thought, Kweli, Nas, or even Jay Z.

    Shani

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Why are you even listening to this? He sucks!"

Shani, the track had JUNIOR REID on it!! Now I have to question how far back you go. Nas,Kewli, and Jigga are alright. But I go back to the early seventies with this shit. (Dancehall, Jamaica)

Trust me, I am not a "Johnny come lately" to the rap game. Go back and read some of my early posts about rap on this blog. Been there, done that with all the artists you mentioned.

But no disrespect; it's typical of you young bucks to think us old heads are out of touch ;)
