I was going to blog about his O ness knocking em dead in Europe, but the tragic reality of A-merry-can life interrupted my thoughts and I decided to blog about yet another A-merry-can massacre, instead.
First, I want to thank my man Greg Fuller for sending me the following story:
"Published Mon, Mar 30, 2009 2:06pm ET by Eric Boehlert
And that the press, aside from downplaying what have now become routine, gun-related killing sprees that dot the nation, has completely walked away from even raising the issue of gun control in the wake of the rampages?
And that the press, aside from downplaying what have now become routine, gun-related killing sprees that dot the nation, has completely walked away from even raising the issue of gun control in the wake of the rampages?
The latest proof came in the wake of the carnage that unfolded in Carthage, North Carolina, on Sunday when a heavily armed suspect, Robert Stewart, entered a local retirement home and began randomly shooting patients and employees with a high-powered rifle. Eight were killed and three others were wounded before police subdued the man. The local police chief described the killing scene as "unimaginable, horrific, everything you can possible imagine that is bad in this world."
The thin coverage the story has received nationwide has been rather astounding. According to TVeyes.com, in the 24 hours since news broke about the bloody killing spree, it has received just 180 mentions on cable and network television, combined (i.e. ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, CNN Headline News, MSNBC, and NBC.)
By contrast, the flood that didn't materialize as feared in Fargo, North Dakota, over the weekend received nearly 250 mentions during the same time span. So the flood that didn't happen got more coverage than than the killing rampage that left eight people dead in North Carolina.
Also, TV mentions of General Motors in the last 24 hours, prompted by the news its CEO is being forced out, far outnumbered the news mentions of the nursing home killing spree.
As for a discussion of gun control in the wake of the nursing home massacre, forget about it. It never came up on TV. The press has no interest in dissecting our Rampage Nation.
UPDATE: As a reader notes, there was another killing rampage over the weekend. This one inside a Santa Clara, California home; 6 dead (including three children), one critically injured.
To date, there have been just seven mentions of the story on cable and network news, according to TVeyes.com"
UPDATE AGAIN: Now we can add Binghamton, New York to this ugly mix of depravity and apathy. (Isn't it ironic that this latest massacre was carried out in place where people studied to become citizens?) Although maybe because it was a slow news day, this shooting seemed to have gotten a little more publicity than some of the others we have had recently. Even his O ness commented about it all the way from Europe. Poor O man, he has got to be so embarrassed for his country and its culture of guns and violence. Not to say other countries don't have their share, lord knows they do.--Just look what happened in Germany not to long ago-- But here in A-merry-ca it just seems like the norm. And we have a billion dollar lobby group in this country known as the NRA who will stop at nothing to keep the status quo: Murder mayhem and massacres. At least in other countries you get a sense that there is true outrage when something like this happens and the governments in those countries take pro active steps to prevent it from ever happening again. Not here, our poli-tricksters need money to get elected, and if that money comes from the NRA with their facile arguments for more guns, well, then, so be it.
"Michelle and I were shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the act of senseless violence in Binghamton, NY today..."
Get used to it Mr. President, there will be more to come.
Field, what do YOU believe is the reason for these rage/spree murder-suicides? I grapple with this question every time I read about them. Seems like hardly a week passes without the news reporting such incidents.
ReplyDeleteBTW: Thank you for adding my new blog to your roll. :)
I guess now the NRA will support the right to carry for children, old people and immigrants. You know that wouldn't have happened if those who needed round the clock care had been armed.
ReplyDeleteI stopped to help this guy at a busy intersection who's car had stopped today. We pushed it to a parking lot and we both looked at the engine for a while. I gave him a ride home but before he left we went back and got a big box of rounds out of his car. Gun lovers/huggers enjoy the stain the gun makes in the air and the hole the bullet makes. Shooting rabbits and squirrels and rabbits is great fun.
ReplyDeleteszpork
White folks are lashing out. I guess this guy coupled with losing his job, heard that Obama was gonna take away all the guns. Maybe that was just too much for him to bear and he decided to take it out on 13 poor immigrants who were on their way to becoming a part of this wonderful nation of ours.
ReplyDeleteWhite folks are mad y'all.
That is nothing new, the reason why it barely made mention in the news is that it wasn't black people that did the killings. Only black people that kill are considered newsworthy in America. It's always been like that. Whites do mass murders, blacks murder each other, but only when black folks kill does tne media consider it newsworthy. According to the media there is no such thing as scary white men, it's only scary black men that exist in America.
ReplyDeleteHathor:
ReplyDeleteI love your style. It is so smooth and subtle. Granny giving you a fist bump. :)
White folks are mad y'all.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't even white Mr. Sharpton.
RiPPa said... The guy who did the killing was Asian American and not "White".
ReplyDeleteCan't blame a White man for this one. Maybe next week an actual White guy will pull a similar crime.
Field, I see no reason for the press to say much about the killings when the NRA has Pelosi and the democrats in their pockets. They have already stopped the O man's efforts to curtail guns.
ReplyDeleteThe other reason for the upswing in killings and suicides are related to the economic downturn. There will be more, a lot more. People lose their identity and go crazy when they lose their jobs, because their identity is tied to their job.
In capitalistic A-merry-ca "self-worth" is based on "net-worth". With the loss of their job, some people feel a sense of worthlessness, a kind of death and hopelessness...temporary insanity.
What better way to end it all than shoot up the town American style? America has always been a violent country anyway. It's part of the American way, isn't it?
The violence here is beginning to sound a lot like what's going on in Iraq, especially in and around Baghdad.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we need to put the military on the streets of our cities, towns, and burgs to stop the violence, and to provide the additional protection that the Iraqis enjoy.
Guns, I'm afraid, are as American as apple pie, and the NRA is going to keep it that way.
We all know that the Second Amendment calls for the formation of a militia: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
But the Supremes have consistently misread it to mean that the Constitution mandates gun ownership for every person.
Why, I ask, did they leave out the "regulated militia" part, and tell people, "Yes, you may own a gun, but you have to serve in one of the nation's regulated militias for as long as you own it."
Now, I wonder how many people would be willing to make that sacrifice in order to own a gun.
And I've heard this from some of those commenting here, that "guns don't kill, people kill," as though that somehow sanctions the distribution of guns throughout our society.
What they don't seem to realize, or don't wish to see, is that guns do kill. In the hands of a killer they kill efficiently, easily, and massively.
Without guns, the mass killers that you have identified on your blog would not have been able to do the damage that they did.
They would have to use dynamite, or some other mass killing means to do the damage that a mere semi-automatic weapon can accomplish with considerable ease.
This country will never be "of the people, by the people, for the people" until we can find a way to stop politicians from being paid off via contributions from special interest, to vote, not their conscience, but to repay the money that they have received.
Money corrupts, and a lot of money corrupts absolutely.
I see no reason for the press to say much about the killings when the NRA has Pelosi and the democrats in their pockets.
ReplyDeleteJust the Dems, anon? The NRA got pockets so big a hundred elephants and a thousand donkeys can fit in them with ease.
"It's always been like that. Whites do mass murders"
ReplyDeleteColin Ferguson would like to remind you there are black mass murderers to.
Timothy McVeigh would like to remind you that he was white and he got lots of media coverage.
"13 poor immigrants "
His co-workers where immigrants ?
The guy in NY wasn't white.
It's amazing to me that so many people think that the answer to evil is to disarm law abiding people.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make any sense to me.
The lapsed assault weapons ban wouldn't have stopped this as the killer evidently used pistols.
Individual gun ownership is an American right and not one that should be given away.
There are anywhere from 80-90 million gun owners in the US. Short of a police state that will go door to door and confiscate guns, there is NO WAY to remove guns from regular citizens. Even then criminals will still have guns. Someone who has decided to murder at least 13 people before killing himself is NOT going to be deterred by gun laws. All that gun bans do is disarm law abiding non-violent people. If people don't like guns, don't own one. But no one has the right to make that choice for other people.
There are numerous incidents where law abiding citizens have used firearms to defend themselves, their loved ones or other people. There are even more tragic incidents such as the woman that was raped in NY subway as the conductor and ticket agent watched her being dragged down the stairs. The police were called but it was too late.
Unless it comes out that the murderer was an NRA member acting on orders from HQ, I don't see what the NRA has to do with this tragedy.
If people really want to ban guns they should start a campaign to revoke the Second Amendment. Good luck with that.
As an African living in America there is nothing more disgusting to me than listening to some fat cry baby wax philosophical about the great Europeans. They are the sluts of society and that you look to them as your benchmark for what should happen here in America makes me want to puke.....what a waste.
ReplyDelete"I see no reason for the press to say much about the killings when the NRA has Pelosi and the democrats in their pockets."
ReplyDeleteTheres a difference between being in the NRA's pocket and being scared.Demorats are scared.
Remember what happen the last time Democrats opposed the NRA?Just ask Bill Clinton what happen.
This country has been married to guns since it's inception yet we have not been awash in this level of murder and violence.
ReplyDeleteAre guns the heart of the issue?
Why are gun nuts and anti-gun nuts so married to ideology? One side blames the gun anytime a bad person does something while the other side thinks owning a bazooka is a God given necessity.
I see no need to own a machine gun, or anyone's need to play Grand Theft Auto.
(I own numerous guns, none of which I keep in my current residence because it isnt the proper place)
"Field, what do YOU believe is the reason for these rage/spree murder-suicides?"
ReplyDeleteMarcy, as BD stated brilliantly in their comments, it's a combination of reasons: The NRA, a culure of violence, and the poor economic times. I think this creates a "A Perfect Storm" for what we have been seeing.
Shady_Grady, I understand where you are coming from. But shouldn't there be some moderation in the types of guns that folks are allowed to manufacture and sell here? Do we really need AK47s, Uzis and FN-SCARs to hunt? (BTW, a very good friend of mine owns an FN-SCAR, so I am not exactly a stranger to guns. I do, after all, live in Philly) And how many of those immigrants or old people in that nursing home, or those poor students at VaTech were going to be packing? Must everyone now be armed wherever they go?Is the NRA going to have classes for 8 and 80 year olds, too?
"As an African living in America there is nothing more disgusting to me than listening to some fat cry baby wax philosophical about the great Europeans. They are the sluts of society and that you look to them as your benchmark for what should happen here in America makes me want to puke.....what a waste."
Just don't puke over here you ignorant "loof" (ask someone what that means?) Europeans are the "sluts of society"? Spoken like a true wingnut.
BTW,the fact that I live in A-merry-ca allows be to "wax philosophical". If you don't like it you might want to move to that Europe you hate so much.
And who are you calling "fat cry baby"? Dem dear is fighten words.I will bet my favorite charity against yours that I carry a less percentage of body fat than you do.
"Just the Dems, anon? The NRA got pockets so big a hundred elephants and a thousand donkeys can fit in them with ease."
BD, you do have a way with words.:)
And yes folks, the shooter was Asian. Craziness knows no color or race y'all.
How sad and ironic that the alleged reason this man, a Vietnamese immigrant, went on a killing spree was because he could not find work and was constantly insulted for not being able to speak English.
ReplyDeleteBy his final actions, he took on the persona of our violent history and became "american."
I was wondering if you were going to cover the NY shooting. I live less than 2 miles from where the incident happened, and know a few people who were involved in crisis care and law enforcement, and got their takes on the day as it was unfolding. I could write lots more, but won't. Such a horrible day for our community.
ReplyDeletewhat do YOU believe is the reason for these rage/spree murder-suicides?
ReplyDeleteAt least some of these rampages have had at their core domestic violence. We often have an image of this kind of violence being something that happens behind closed doors. But in reality, it often spills into public, including the workplaces of the intended targets. Adding sadness to sadness, other people also become victims in this ultimate display of rage and control.
aside from downplaying what have now become routine, gun-related killing sprees that dot the nation, has completely walked away from even raising the issue of gun control in the wake of the rampages?
ReplyDeleteFilled Negro:
Can you detail for me HOW this is a "gun control issue"?
Has there been evidence found that this man has VIOLATED any existing gun laws in order to obtain the weapons that he had?
It is clear to me that you and others who are so inclined seek desperately to take away guns from law abiding Americans as you pursue people who use them for CRIMINAL ACTS.
It is ironic how you and other supposed civil libertarians resist government action which CASTS A WIDE NET, ensnaring THE INNOCENT as it pursues the guilty, yet when it comes to the question of legal gun ownership - all bets are off.
With guns you pervert the long heard notion as following:
"It is better to confiscate the guns of 100 law abiding Americans so that we can get the gun of the 1 criminal assailant who will use his gun in the commission of a crime"
Do you support a mass round up of guns in Philly and the arrest and conviction of all who are in possession of one that they can't prove ownership?
Filled Negro: Do you mind if I take apart the arguments used by some of your loyal posters?
ReplyDelete
I guess now the NRA will support the right to carry for children, old people and immigrants.
This is pure straw man, hyperbole that is no where near the position that the NRA has.
Gun lovers/huggers enjoy the stain the gun makes in the air and the hole the bullet makes.
Anon - If someone attempted to blame the entire Black community for the sins of what one Black man has done that was murderous - what would you call that person?
That same label is what you should affix to yourself.
I own 3 guns.
The man's actions yesterday is no indictment upon ME nor the gun shops that I purchased them from nor the manufacturer.
Poor O man, he has got to be so embarrassed for his country and its culture of guns and violence.
ReplyDelete* Embarrassed for his country
* Culture of Guns
* Violence
Filled Negro:
Are YOU embarrassed about the city Of Philadelphia?
(I am not just talking about violence but the schools, the economic environment and the condition in general of North Philly and SouthWest Philly)
Do you believe that the PRESENCE OF THE GUNS creates the HUMAN EMOTION OF ANGER AND HATRED which results in a dead man?
Thus your argument if flawed in that the gun is nothing more than an efficient means of EXPRESSING certain human views of contempt. Since I DON'T HAVE THESE EMOTIONS in the same way as the Philly Thug.....MY GUNS HAVE NEVER KILLED ANYONE.
It is my opinion that since you are not able to effectively control the HUMAN BEINGS who are the source of the carnage - you instead go after the inanimate object knowns as the gun. This is not to say that the thugs won't resort to knives and other tools for assault.
Do you ever notice that despite so few guns in the prison population - people STILL get killed?
Next you will arrange an incursion force that raids people's homes looking for weapons - just like the guards in the prisons do for the inmates.
Sure you are an African. Try your falsehood on those who have not met our African neighbours.
ReplyDeleteThere is more to the story. Binghamton is very working-class. Lots of work...for very little pay and zero opportunity.
constructive troll seems to think that reducing guns will deprive him of his dinkyhood. True, that. But of greater import is the inability to kill large numbers of people. Oh wait, why else would a loser need a weapon?
Mold
A revolution is on the horizon ...
ReplyDeletei live here in binghamton. it's a working class town and while it is fairly ethnically diverse, the bush years allowed the white folks here (and i am one) to complain and whine about folks who don't speak fluent english. drives me crazy. as if people who don't speak fluent english are less than. simply slow the #bleep# down and actually listen for a change. anyhoo, we are a mix of diversity and suburbia and white gun totin' hicks. i am hoping that the gun totin' hicks won't over generalize and go after every asian family in the area. after all 'they all look alike' to them. talk about anger- i seethe sometimes.
ReplyDeleteOwning a gun should require that one be a responsible citizen, by that I mean that one should at least be required to show that they can use a gun and know safety. Remember that 8 year old that shot himself to death at a gun show, with the Father and dealer supervising.
ReplyDeleteThere should be more of a crack down on illegal sales of guns. Most of them are not a result of a theft from a single owner.(another NRA myth) It is an industry, from seemingly law abiding citizens, designed to enrich themselves at the expense of the young and irrational.
I do think the Second Amendment should should be repealed, rewritten in an age where the single shot is obsolete, and presented for ratification again.
It amazes me that the Second Amendment has been more highly valued as a natural right than the Fourteenth.
This is how I see the Second Amendment perceived.
BD sez - "Why, I ask, did they leave out the "regulated militia" part, and tell people, "Yes, you may own a gun, but you have to serve in one of the nation's regulated militias for as long as you own it.""
ReplyDeleteBD, I'm a gun owner. Unlike the Porch Simian (AKA CF), I don't own cap pistols. I don't see the "need" to own high capacity semi, or full automatic weapons either. When I still hunted deer, I did quite well, thank you - with a trusty 16 Gauge, bolt action Shotgun loaded with #4 shot handed down to me by my father.
The "well regulated militia" defined in the Constitution is a State, not Federal function. Prior to the Revolution, that Militia consisted of nothing more than responsible landowners, wealthy enough to own guns (the Armories lent guns to those who couldn't afford them - who were the vast majority) who would defend the community against "Indian" attack, and/or the more likely, slave revolt.
Because it took over a minute and a half for the average untrained citizen to load and prime a gun - after the initial volley, the vast amount of the fighting was done with nothing more than tommy hawks, knives, swords, and clubs. Mel Gibson's "Patriot" gets one thing historically right in it's depiction of the character played by Gibson and his son's attack on a British squad. The real damage was done by sharp (or blunt) instrument.
The reason the British Army was the most feared of it's time, wasn't their muskets. It was their use of bayonets.
Gun ownership, prior to the Civil War, which resulted in a huge leap in manufacturing capability to produce cheap, mass produced weapons capable of using mass produced cartridges - was a luxury. Those long barreled hand tooled Kentucky and Pennsylvania rifles of Revolutionary War revisionism were expensive as hell, and few could afford them.
Thus the "militia" system wherein the community raised taxes to buy guns and put them in an armory.
There was no prohibition against white folks owning guns. (Indeed, many states didn't get around to prohibiting free blacks from carrying guns until the Black Codes starting in about 1800.)
There was no requirement that those that did own guns - muster if the militia was called. Indeed, in slave holding states, the fear of slave revolt was so great - a number of southern counties refused to muster their militia to support the Colonists. The was also a free black militia out of a county in North Carolina that seems to have slipped through the revisionist historical cracks as well.
So no - the militia argument isn't a valid argument one way or another relative to gun ownership. It is entirely up to the individual States to define, limit, or prohibit gun ownership as they see fit.
The Militia argument (on either side) is nothing more than a sideshow.
BT
The Porch Simian squawks - Thus your argument if flawed in that the gun is nothing more than an efficient means of EXPRESSING certain human views of contempt.
ReplyDeleteAfter the Virginia Tech shootings last year, there has been a pretty heavy move afoot to prohibit folks with known, violent psychological issues from owning guns.
Anyone either a) stupid enough, or b) psychotic enough to believe that the gun is nothing more than an efficient means of EXPRESSING certain human views of contempt....
Needs to be looking over their shoulder for the "gun police".
"Are YOU embarrassed about the city Of Philadelphia?"
ReplyDeleteNo, but sometimes I am embarrased for some of the people in my city, or some of the people from it, like you, for instance.
Do you believe that the PRESENCE OF THE GUNS creates the HUMAN EMOTION OF ANGER AND HATRED which results in a dead man?"
No, but I do believe the presence of a gun makes it easier to cause carnage with that emotion of anger and hatred.
"Next you will arrange an incursion force that raids people's homes looking for weapons - just like the guards in the prisons do for the inmates."
And what would be wrong with that?
And I read in some news accounts that this guy in New York was overheard on frequent occasion threatening the president(didn't say which president: Bush or Obama) But the point: why hadn't he been investigated for that? And while I feel bad for any family ravished by senseless crime: you're right Field, where was the outrage and comparison of this crime to other recent crimes(but quickly, the OPD killings were brought up as a comparison) I think the media needs to stop this preferential treatment of stories based on how sensationalized the story was because it has a diminishing effect on the value of life for all people. It's not about the number of people killed" or their standing in life; it's about one act of violence by anyone towards any other human being, no matter what their race, age, ethnicity, gender, mind capacity etc.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Amerrycans using Guns...is this something new? Whose land is this anyway?
I thought Y'all Damn Yankees had Gun Control up Nawth...
ReplyDeleteThe reason the British Army was the most feared of it's time, wasn't their muskets. It was their use of bayonets.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the British army that made them so tough; the French and the Prussians were arguably stronger. It was the British navy that made them dominant.
Having a weapon in the colonies was of vital importance, especially if you lived on the frontier. The possibility of attacks by the French or Indians made gun owning a logical choice. Later, colonials who fought guerilla style against the British were always armed at home, and in the field. As America expanded west the violence and lawlessness of frontier towns required people were armed in the absence of dependable law enforcement. Gun ownership is not necessary today, but it's ingrained in the culture.
Good one Annonymous...thats what I got my Guns for...those damn GORILLAS...
ReplyDelete
the bush years allowed the white folks here (and i am one) to complain and whine about folks who don't speak fluent english.
ReplyDeletebetmo:
As I go around and enumerate the various shootings and killings done by Black Drug Thugs who are GUN TOTING as well - should I BLAME THE BUSH YEARS as well?
The Drug Thugs don't speak fluent English either.
And we had another murder in my beloved West Philly - http://www.philly.com/philly/news/pennsylvania/42375102.html.
ReplyDeleteTime to update your "Killadelphia" feature, Mr. Field.
There should be more of a crack down on illegal sales of guns. Most of them are not a result of a theft from a single owner.(another NRA myth) It is an industry, from seemingly law abiding citizens, designed to enrich themselves at the expense of the young and irrational.
ReplyDeleteHathor - can you tell me the method by which the average Urban Drug Thug acquires his illegal gun?
It is likely that he sends the word out that he needs a gun and then the hustler gun sales men opens up his trunk and shows him his stash.
Hathor do you mind if I transcribe your statement?
"We need the federal government to crack down on guns so that OUR YOUNG PEOPLE who we indoctrinated with the world view that they now possess will not be able to get a gun into their hands and SHOOT another one of the people who we also are responsible for raising".
It is clear that this is less of a GOVERNMENT problem than it is a problem that certain dysfunctional communities are more interested in EXTERNAL CHASING OF GRIEVANCES than they are in making sure that the PEOPLE THAT THEY HAVE INFLUENCE OVER are not the one's causing mayhem upon their own community.
There will definitely be more. When it comes to mass murders, Cali knows how to do them better than any other state.
ReplyDeleteJust a matter of time. Wait until unemployment hits 12% this summer.
Excuse me BET Uncut:
ReplyDelete
I don't see the "need" to own high capacity semi, or full automatic weapons either. When I still hunted deer, I did quite well, thank you - with a trusty 16 Gauge, bolt action Shotgun loaded with #4 shot handed down to me by my father.
Well then DON'T PURCHASE A HIGH POWERED RIFLE if you don't see fit to own one - punk!
There was no prohibition against white folks owning guns. (Indeed, many states didn't get around to prohibiting free blacks from carrying guns until the Black Codes starting in about 1800.)
The gross irony of the present day versus HISTORY is that where as previously the racists resisted BLACK PEOPLE OWNING GUN so that they would be free from harm as they made their Night Riding terroristic romps through the Black community with torches and guns in hand.
Strong Black leaders like AME Bishop Henry McNeal Turner fought against the RACISTS who saw that second on the list of those who thought "the only good Nigra is a dead Nigra" was the view "The second best type of Nigra is an UNARMED NIGRA who can be terrorized into doing what we will".
Ironically Turner and other Blacks had an ILLEGAL GUN TRADE in which they bypassed the RACIST White owned stores who refused to sell guns and ammo to Blacks. They instead began to ship guns and ammo to Black people so that they COULD DEFEND THEMSELVES!!!
Today with the growth of unconsciousness within the Black community after years of Progressive Indoctrination - there continues an illegal gun trade. The only problem is that these guns are purchased by BLACKS to KILL OTHER BLACKS, rather than to defend against the terroristic threats from White folks.
Sadly Black Progressive Bigots shift the burden of these Black gun deaths upon the White Conservatives who refuse to give up their 2nd Amendment RIGHTS rather than making note of the fact that DESPITE having a larger quantity of progressive politicians that they favor in place - A BLACK MAN'S LIFE HAS NEVER BEEN WORTH LESS.....as valued by the Drug Thugs who are KILLING HIM.
(Thug Shoots store clerk in the head, killing him: http://www.viddler.com/explore/ConstructiveFee/videos/151/)
Today it is the Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive-Fundamentalist Racism Chaser who is most interested in taking guns out of the hands of Black people so that they might stop KILLING EACH OTHER than they are in notating how THEIR messages which indoctrinate them as they are being raise are the biggest factor in their devaluation of life.
BET Uncut keeps talking THEORIES from the past......he has nothing to offer in regards to stopping the blood bath to-damned-day.
More than 13 Black people were killed last night throughout the nation from street violence that occurred in various urban settings. This will not make the news as did the mass killing.
Mostly because it doesn't provide the EXPLOITABLE OPPORTUNITY that is present in the New York killing at the immigrant center.
"Just a matter of time. Wait until unemployment hits 12% this summer"
ReplyDeleteRobbie I agree. It seems the more job loss, house loss (this includes their beloved super SUVs) & no money for medical - many sane folks will become completely insane and do things out of their minds. Just like the guy with a gun who robbed a convenience store with his daughter who looked terrified. It may not be 1929 when several people jumped out of windows but it is just as deadly because you or I may be innocent bystanders in the wrong place and the wrong time.
No, but sometimes I am embarrased for some of the people in my city, or some of the people from it, like you, for instance.
ReplyDeleteFilled Negro - no need for YOU to be embarrassed of ME.
I AM NOT YOUR DAMNED PROBLEM!!!!
Your problem is one of IDEOLOGICAL BIGOTRY.
You are so smitten in your attempts to stay the course, fighting against the DEVILS WHO HAVE DEPARTED that you can't even make note that DESPITE THEIR DEPARTURE......your fate is no less assured.
I haven't set foot in Philly in nearly 9 months and yet.......the mayhem continues.
There has not been a Republican mayor or City Council Majority or School board presence in several long decades and yet......the mayhem continues.
AT WHAT POINT, Filled Negro do you shift from IDEOLOGICAL POWER BUILDING back to realignment with your PERMANENT INTERESTS? You have become far too comfortable in advancing the agenda of your PERMANENT FRIENDS who have damaged you seriously.
After the last enemy departs your midst.....who do you blame next?
It appears that you simply CREATE NEW ENEMIES to fight against.
Filled Negro when you can get the Thug Killers to live up to a certain creed and valuation of HUMAN LIFE rather than being so keen on EXPANDING THE POLICE TAPE from the crime scene to now include all of the societal forces that were present when the Thug Killer was first inseminated by his father in his mother's womb you will then see that MANAGEMENT OF YOUR PEOPLE is a far greater influence upon their ultimate condition than is seeking to manage and sculpt pristine conditions for them BEFORE you will begin to treat them as EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS - with equal EXPECTATIONS of them as you do from those you see as your common adversary as you lump superiority upon them. Even when this adversary is NOT PRESENT you say his present is felt more than those who are left to govern the environment. This is supreme power indeed.
AMEN, FIELD!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just blogged about Gun Control yet again last week. Every day there is indeed "murder mayhem and massacres"
Lunatic in Binghamton,Helpless Folks in NC, "Officers killed, wounded in Stanton Heights standoff" today - More to come is right and it's SCARY!
Take the guns and take them now.
ReplyDeleteFun with the Porch Simian!
ReplyDeletePS - Well then DON'T PURCHASE A HIGH POWERED RIFLE if you don't see fit to own one - punk!
A "High Powered Rifle", Porch Simian - is generally any rifle over 30 Calibre - although some cases with a "Magnum" designation such as a .270 or .243 Winchester. They typically have muzzle velocities in excess of 1500 fps, are capable at punching holes in a 2" circle at distances from 300 - 1200 yards.
They come in single shot, double barrel, bolt action, and gas operated semi-automatic...
But like your antique 30-30 which tends to drop like a rock at distances above 150 yards, most of the cheap, machine stamped semis go to targets small building size at over 450 yds...
They don't qualify.
I own several HP rifles in bolt action .270, 300 Win, 30-06, .365, 7mm, and a "beast" in the 40's. I won't go into antique Lever Actions which I consider un-fireable, or have rendered un-fireable.
Only a complete ignorant ass would confuse the amorphous designation "High Power" with the "Action".

Jiverly Voong, AKA, Jiverly Wong, is just another gun-obsessed loner, who failed to fit-in and managed to drive everyone away.
ReplyDeleteHere's what we know about this douchebag so far:
* He came to the US from Vietnam when he was “young.”
* His wife and kids left him at some point.
* He shared a home with his father in Johnson City, NY. The men were supposedly good neighbors, sharing apples and berries from their garden.
* Voong hated America. When asked by a neighbor if he liked the New York Yankees, Voong said, “No, I don’t like that team. I don’t like America. America sucks.”
* Naturally, Voong was described as a “quiet type,” who seemed “very, very depressed.”
* “And of course Voong was gun nut. “He went to target practice on Saturday. He said he had two guns, one in his glove compartment. He was always talking about his guns.”
Except for hating the U.S. and the New York Yankees, Jiverly Voong sounds like a fantasy constituent for NRA Queen, Sen. Kristin Gillibrand, who replaced the Borg Queen after she became Obama's Secretary of State.
The Porch Simian sputter - The gross irony of the present day versus HISTORY is that where as previously the racists resisted BLACK PEOPLE OWNING GUN so that they would be free from harm as they made their Night Riding terroristic romps through the Black community with torches and guns in hand.
ReplyDeleteThe Black Codes I mentioned were an effort to control or expel free blacks from the Southern States during the period from 1800 until the Civil War. The Night Riders, AKA KKK - didn't form until 1865 - AFTER the Civil War, dumbshit.
My own great, great, great grandsire and uncle were the object of one such prohibition - probably due to several "slave catchers" and their pet black Porch Simian helper having "accidentally" fallen into a deep cavern in the mountains, never to be heard from again after announcing in town they were heading towards the family's farm...
They won the right to carry arms in public, in court - in 1820.
You might say it's a family tradition.

Did this man not get Obama's message of hope and change??
ReplyDeleteCouldn't the hand of Obama reach out and save this man?
The Pathetic Simian stutters - The only problem is that these guns are purchased by BLACKS to KILL OTHER BLACKS, rather than to defend against the terroristic threats from White folks.
ReplyDeleteThose Night Riders are still roaming the streets, with about the same frequency that an inner city gangbanger does a home invasion robbery in the Suburbs...
Which is to say... About zilch.
Except in the fecund imagination of the gibbering Porch Simian begging and slobbering to kiss Massa Drugbo's fat white ass.

More killings to follow...breaking news,http://www.jackandjillpolitics.com/2009/04/recently-unemployed-man-who-feared-obama-gun-ban-kills-three-cops/
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the country and guns are a mainstay with rural African Americans. My grandfather rode around with a gun in the back of his truck window, my uncles and cousins hunt, and my brothe-in-law is an avid hunter of deer- something you can eat and fill your freezer with. I would not advocate removing guns. My sister is a cop. There are two to three pieces in her vehicle everytime we go somewhere. It doesn't seem to me that the problem is owning guns (which is a constitutional right). I don't own a gun, although just about everyone in my family does. I'm just not a gun person- but I can't tell another law-abiding citizen that they can't own a gun. This is the second Asian in the past couple of years (Virginia Tech) that has come into our country gotten a gun and committed to killing sprees. Perhaps instead of putting the Haitians under a microscope when they try to enter our country, more emphasis should be placed on these Asians.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's a great idea. Target every Asian immigrant and assume he/she is a violent maniac just because of two douchebags. We're all the same, right?
ReplyDeleteThe VT guy and this current asswipe lived in this country for years.
BET Uncut - still shake dancing for money on your progressive pole I see.
ReplyDelete
Those Night Riders are still roaming the streets, with about the same frequency that an inner city gangbanger does a home invasion robbery in the Suburbs...
You see BET Uncut - THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM.
Your only hope is to get the Black folks who have hatred in their hearts to get more obsessed over the THREAT FROM "CONSERVATIVE WHITEY" coming into their community to KILL THEM so that they won't focus on the THUG DRUG KNEEGROWS WHO ARE ALREADY KILLING THEM!!!!
The very same SPIRIT that got "White folks riled up" over the news that a Black man had winked at a White woman is the very same SPIRIT that is exploited to get BLACK FOLKS focused on keeping their shot gun pointed out the window of their shot gun shack, being vigilant that no gun toting White man dare tread on their lawn aiming to kill them while the TERMITES EAT AWAY AT THE FOUNDATION OF THE SHACK, and the occupants inside ultimately die because THE ROOF COLLAPSES upon all of them, smashing them flat.
YOU ARE AN IDEOLOGICAL BIGOT BET UNCUT!!!
You manipulate "willing Blacks" who need just a little push to turn their resentment that is borne from your INCOMPETENT LEADERSHIP over to anger that is focused on those who are OUTSIDE of your community.
Despite them having departed and allowed you to craft whatever system among the people that they chose to (as long as it did not violate the constitution or seek to overthrow the government) YOU focus on those who have LEFT YOU ALL ALONE rather than those who lead the way in their absence.
The Black Codes I mentioned were an effort to control or expel free blacks from the Southern States during the period from 1800 until the Civil War. The Night Riders, AKA KKK - didn't form until 1865 - AFTER the Civil War, dumbshit.
ReplyDeleteEver heard of "The Red Shirts"?
The Red Shirts or Redshirts of the Southern United States were white paramilitary groups in the 19th century, active primarily after formal Reconstruction. They first arose in Mississippi in 1875 as Conservative rifle clubs and private militias adopted red shirts to make themselves more visible and threatening to Republicans, both whites and freedmen.[1] Similar groups formed in other southern states and also adopted Red Shirts.
Among the most prominent Red Shirts were supporters of Democrat Wade Hampton during the campaigns for the South Carolina gubernatorial elections of 1876 and 1878. The Red Shirts were one of a number of paramilitary organizations, such as the White League in Louisiana, that arose in the continuing insurgency of white Democrats in the South in the 1870s. Such groups acted as "the military arm of the Democratic Party."[2] While still engaging in terrorism, in contrast to secret vigilante groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, they worked openly, were more organized and directed their efforts at political goals: namely, to restoring the Democrats to power by turning out Republicans, and repressing civil rights and voting by blacks.[3] During the 1876 campaign, the Red Shirts of North Carolina also played prominent roles.
Or what about the Colfax Massacre in Louisiana? YOU DON'T NEED THE "KKK" to have racial terrorists.
My own great, great, great grandsire and uncle were the object of one such prohibition - probably due to several "slave catchers" and their pet black Porch Simian helper having "accidentally" fallen into a deep cavern in the mountains, never to be heard from again after announcing in town they were heading towards the family's farm...
Now let me get your latest family tale together.
Were these the WHITE relatives that you spoke of previously who ENSLAVED and TERRORIZED BROWN SKINNED PEOPLE on the island of Nevis?
Or is this the clan that moved to Virginia and intermarried with Blacks?
They won the right to carry arms in public, in court - in 1820.
Again your terminology is incorrect.
They didn't WIN THE RIGHT. The courts STOPPED THE GOVERNMENT FROM BLOCKING THEIR RIGHT TO CARRY ARMS.
Free speech, like the right to defend yourself are rights that are innate rights that NO GOVERNMENT SHOULD IMPINGE UPON. The right to bear arms was put into the constitution because the "Great White founders" in their infinite wisdom envisioned a day when certain perverted progressives would seek to CONFISCATE GUNS and thus take away the ability of people to most expediently defend themselves from such incursions from the government as they attempt to steal their mental and physical freedom from them.
For a group of people who believe that the NRA is a bigger threat than are the gun toting drug thugs - there is little that one can do but fight vigilantly so that YOU ALL never have absolute control over ME.
What do you think all of this is about. I personally don't think it's copy cat..I think something is going on here
ReplyDeletego.
So no - the militia argument isn't a valid argument one way or another relative to gun ownership. It is entirely up to the individual States to define, limit, or prohibit gun ownership as they see fit.
ReplyDelete"The Militia argument (on either side) is nothing more than a sideshow."
BT
Thanks for the history lesson.
But nothing you said invalidates either the intention nor the purpose for the amendment: to establish the formation of militias.
Faced with a powerful lobby, such as the NRA, states are going to tow the line and give them essentially whatever it is they want.
As far as this issue is concerned, it's not governance "of the people, by the people for the people," but by the dictates of the NRA.
That seems rather autocratic to me.
Statistics on Gun Ownership
40% of all US homes have guns
81% of Americans say that gun control will be an important issue in determining which Congressional candidate to vote for.
91% of Americans say that there should be at least minor restrictions on gun ownership;
57% of Americans say that there should be major restrictions or a ban.
Field wrote: But shouldn't there be some moderation in the types of guns that folks are allowed to manufacture and sell here? Do we really need AK47s, Uzis and FN-SCARs to hunt? (BTW, a very good friend of mine owns an FN-SCAR, so I am not exactly a stranger to guns. I do, after all, live in Philly) And how many of those immigrants or old people in that nursing home, or those poor students at VaTech were going to be packing? Must everyone now be armed wherever they go?Is the NRA going to have classes for 8 and 80 year olds, too?
ReplyDeleteI'm not an NRA member but do you know that the NRA already does offer hunting, shooting and gun safety classes for people of all ages, including children...
I don't hunt-not my thing-but many of the weapons more closely associated with hunting are just as dangerous as any "assault" weapon.
I don't think there is a way for the government to decide who "needs" a weapon. I may want one for self-defense. I may enjoy target shooting. I may like to exhibition shoot. I may just be a collector. Whatever the reasons may be, guns are here to stay.
The piece of excrement in Binghamton used pistols. Such things were not going to be banned under any circumstances.
If the killer bought the guns legally, I don't see how society could have prevented him doing so and not also prevent millions of other sane good people from doing the same.
Pittsburgh cop killer feared Obama gun ban.

Huh? [Un]Constructive Feed..are you posting as anonymous now?
Wow, talk about a reach.
Gee, there is a shock, the Binghamtom killer LOVED guns.
Constructive Feedback,
ReplyDeleteYou are not transcribing my words, you are putting words in my mouth.
50 years ago, in my stable community, people were shot and killed purposefully and accidentally. This phenomena is not new. Just more of it. There was no mass media to hype it up.
I guess you can only write about what other should do, and not a doer yourself. Gun violence exist every where, even in middle class white neighborhoods. One young death and injury, not too long ago, occurred when the son of a gun owner (posted on the front of his house a warning that the was armed), showing off, shot and killed his friend and injured his girlfriend. Shouldn't you be working with your kind and changing the culture, to prevent such accidents.
Where do those low level dealers get those guns? None of the local dealers have that kind of money or clout.
I don't blame children for the failing of their parents. It is harder for a child, any child, any where, to get cigarettes than to purchase or borrow a gun; and most times that's easy enough.
We have child labor laws, but don't care if a child has access to guns and especially if it is those children you so like to talk about.
I am not adverse to young people being able to learn how to shoot in a controlled environment such as target shooting. I think even in those cases, the gun should be age appropriate. For example the Scouts have target shooting for Cub Scouts, but uses a pellet rifle that you load one pellet at a time. It is rigidly supervised.
I know because I was a scout leader.
This post probably is a waste of time.
The Porch Simian digs even deeper in his own personal Marianas Trench of stupidity with -
ReplyDeleteThey first arose in Mississippi in 1875 as Conservative rifle clubs and private militias...
Which is ten years AFTER the first Klan, and 75 years AFTER the beginning of the Black codes I discussed, Porch Simian.
And - insofar as Jim Crow era laws prohibiting the ownership of guns by blacks - you would have to show me that before 1900.
AFTER 1900, a number of Southern States passed black anti-gun laws - generally prohibiting the ownership of handguns - which, like Prohibition...
Went largely ignored.
The period you are trying to get your head out of your ass about, was the Reconstruction period from about 1865 to 1880, when black militias and white post confederates fought pitched battles. Where the white confederates won, the confederate forbears of the current Republican Party sought to disarm blacks to prevent guerilla warfare and keep the black folks under control.
Where the black militias won, the Rethugly-rebs couldn't do a damn thing.
The equation changed massively after WWI due to the number of black men who received military training - and smuggled home thousands of weapons after the war. The two largest "riots" being Chicago in 1919, and Tulsa the same year, during what is called "Red Summer" when there were 26 race riots. Unlike similar "riots" in the 1880's, armed blacks defended themselves, and significant numbers of whites are also killed. This, probably more than anything else led to no more significant race riots in the US until post WWII and the Detroit "riot" - although gangs of whites continued to prey on defenseless victims with lynchings. There also was a significant level of retaliatory violence after WWI by blacks, which sometimes fed the cycle of violence.
The major issue with blacks owning guns, was cost - not laws.
Insofar as your continual hallucination -
Were these the WHITE relatives that you spoke of previously who ENSLAVED and TERRORIZED BROWN SKINNED PEOPLE on the island of Nevis?
I'm not your dad. Your level of stupid ...
Just isn't in my DNA.
As to For a group of people who believe that the NRA is a bigger threat than are the gun toting drug thugs...
No, moron - the NRA is the drug thugs supplier and enabler. 90% of the guns in the Mexico Drug war come from a few gun shops in the US - including a fair variety of weaponry and ammunition prohibited for sale in the US.
They are in business together, clown.

The Porch Simian quivers - TERMITES EAT AWAY AT THE FOUNDATION OF THE SHACK, and the occupants inside ultimately die because THE ROOF COLLAPSES upon all of them, smashing them flat.
ReplyDeleteUhhhh... With your paltry engineering knowledge, I blame your mother for not getting you set of those cute Lincoln Logs as a tyke. She was probably afraid the complexity of stacking the little logs in little squares would too tax your limited brain - and result in a "transcendental meltdown" ala the GEICO caveman.
Had she not missed this bit of education, you'd have learned taking away the foundation of building does not cause the "roof to collapse" - since the roof is attached to, and supported by the walls...
And not the foundation.
Now that we have covered that bit of basic mechanics learned by your average 3 year old...
You were stupidly blubbering?
BT
The NRA has nothing to do with some fool blocking a backdoor, then running in a building shooting people. How does the NRA fit in here, hell the door company is just as guilty here in that case... for having a lock so people cannot get out in case of an emergency. Instead of gripping about people doing these mass killings, get a #$%# gun and shoot the next muth#$%#@! that start shoot people in a crowd. Hell that why people carry guns. 14 people are dead, no one had a weapon to stop him, and poeple are complaining about NRA lobbying. Murder, mayhem and massacres are choices people make. This man didn't call the president of NRA and ask him where to go, and who to shoot today, that plain crap.
ReplyDeletehis O ness knocking em dead in Europe... yeah right, I only saw his O ness bowing to King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. When he get back to the states, maybe Michelle will give him a back rub like she did the Queen, cause he darn near broke it bending over.

ReplyDeleteBefore calling someone a moron maybe you should get your facts straight and not depend on leftwing talikng points.
That 90% only concerns guns that are sented back to the US for tracing.Thats only about 17%.
Most of those guns didn't come from gun shops but ARE LEGITIMATELY SHIPPED BY THE GOVERMENT TO THE MEXICAN MILITARY.
MEXICAN SOLDIERS THAN DEFECT TAKING THEIR WEAPONS WITH THEM.
Most of the weapons used by cartals can't be bought in this country.
This is what we get when Democrats run the country-fear mongering and blame America first.
So much for hope and change.

ReplyDeleteROFL!!!
This place would turn into Red Dawn!
Anyway, I'll co-sign with "BT" and others in saying that the 2nd Amendment needs to be modernized. If folks are worried about forming "militias" they need to join the National Guard. Some of them so-called fore-fathers didn't really support slavery, but look how long that was abolished. This insanity running the streets the last few weeks is silly and tiresome.
Anal sniffs - That 90% only concerns guns that are sented back to the US for tracing.Thats only about 17%.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how you "scented" a gun, but the BATF only needs the serial numbers which -
Last year, no less than 20,000 weapons were seized in drug-related actions, raids, arrests, and shoot-outs; nearly all of them were sold in the U.S. (The Mexican government has finally been given electronic access, by the U.S. Department of Justice, to be able to trace the origins of registered weapons, but only if they are used in the commission of crimes.)
Last month, the U.S. government’s own Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, released its policy-shaping “2009 International Narcotics Strategy Report.” As the bureau had to admit, “U.S.-purchased or stolen firearms account for an estimated 95% of the Mexico’s drug-related killings.”
http://www.alternet.org/drugreporter/132120/mexico's_drug_war_bloodbath:_guns_from_the_u.s._are_destabilizing_the_country/
Funny thing about some of those gun shops in 2nd Amendment havens in the Southwest - you can buy damn near anything you want, including anti-tank shells for 50 cal, grenades, and a wide variety of lethal toys...
If you are a Good Ol' Boy...
Or a high dollar customer, as in the case of the Cartels.
Used to be, nobody much cared - because there is a hell of a lot of land...
And damn few people.
Now it's big "bidness".
BT

ReplyDeleteNo where in the 2009 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report does it say that
"U.S.-purchased or stolen firearms account for an estimated 95% of the Mexico’s drug-related killings.”
William Hoover, assistant director for field operations at the ATF did testified that "there is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have either been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States."
A ATF spokesperson issued this clarification " 90 percent of the TRACED firearms originate from the U.S."
William Hoover also has backtracked and used the word "traced".
So... It wasn't the Mexican Government holding it up...
ReplyDeleteIt was the US Government under the Bushit.
Second, we ONLY check if the gun is claimed to have been used in a crime.
Which is bullshit.
So - we (the US) knows full well where those guns are coming from.

Black Diaspora - since WHEN did a popularity poll substitute for the Constitution and the law?
If we took a poll regarding various things such as Civil Rights and limiting the speech of certain media characters I too could find several positions that prove POPULAR yet unconstitutional.
Thus your list is ultimately meaningless.
Why not mount a quest to create a new constitutional amendment which invalidates the Second Amendment?
Then when the Drug Thug killers continue to kill each other Filled Negro will have to one day TURN TO THEM to seek change rather than going after his external enemies.
Where do those low level dealers get those guns? None of the local dealers have that kind of money or clout.
ReplyDeleteHathor:
These drug dealers receive their guns from WILLING CO-CONSPIRATORS who see a DEMAND for GUNS and who work out a conspiracy to supply that need. It is not much of a stretch to see that the same people who see a demand for illegal drugs and thus supply the need are also inclined to supply guns into the hands of people who don't have the legal right to carry.
Once again - the two distinct issues are the Supply Chain for these illegal guns and HOW THE DRUG THUGS are killing people once they have the gun in hand.
Some of you who are disinclined to deal with the people who you seek to protect will only focus on the supply chain. Thus the target is upon the gun makers and gun dealers. The Thugs who are making illegal gun purchases and taking them from one state to the next and selling it to the drug dealers are said to be "making money because society has denied them a legitimate job".
All the while people die because of your (collective 'you') selective outrage.
If one of these gun transporters were stopped with a stash of guns in his trunk some of you are more inclined to focus on the "racial profiling" which got his car stopped than on the fact that 10 illegal guns were taken off of the street.
(Yet Filled Negro has no problem with the police raiding homes to confiscate guns)

ReplyDeleteBET Uncut - here is 5 $1 bills for your garter belt.
I realize the importance of avoiding the fact that these Post-Confederates were DEMOCRATS. As I have told you previously - while the "Colfax Massacre" are a noted example of how the KILLING OF BLACK PEOPLE directly resulted in DEMOCRATS GETTING INTO OFFICE.....you, despite your rantings can not produce one example in history in which the evil Republicans have ever killed a Black person and then taken political office as a direct result.
Other people reading your dribble should understand that the relatives who won the right to carry arms back in the 1800's were WHITE RELATIVES OF YOURS!!!
Where as no doubt, most Black Americans have "European genes" in them from the slave masters who RAPED our ancestors.......BET Uncut is the only BLACK MAN who I know that proudly presents his family tree which includes relatives from the island of Nevis (near Haiti) which settled the island and trampled upon the brown skinned occupants.
You are truly a confused and decrepit character.
I refuse to play with you BET Uncut. Despite your attempts to tell of the "Conservative Threat" to Black America - THE FACT REMAINS - the people who have burglar bars over their windows and doors are not fearing some Conservatives rinding in a Mustang coming through their community at night to kill them.
They do fear the thugs which the Democrats feel that they can connect with by allowing them to join in on the campaign trail. As much as you try to spin it THE TRUTH IS MORE POWERFUL.
