People like Juan Williams wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't have a platform to reach millions of people with their pronouncements.
Now here comes the latest from brother Juan: This clown was actually on national television equating the civil rights struggle with what Bill O'Reilly was doing in the midst of the Tiller controversy. Are you serious? Honestly, every now and then I have a momentary brain lock and get on the fence with Juan when it comes to where he chooses to align himself. This, in spite of evidence of Juan's Housiness. [I made that word up] But no more. Juan Williams is a straight up house Negro. Period!
This negro [he doesn't deserve a capital "N"] has written books on the civil rights struggle and yet he goes on a show with the most ignorant ego-maniacal buffoon in A-merry-ca. And then, inexcusably, he kisses the man's ring--not to mention his ass--- by telling him that his constant attacks of a man who is now dead (killed by a lunatic whose ideology is not far removed from his own) was somehow equivalent to the civil rights struggle in this country. Let that sink in for a minute.
I keep blogging about the dangers that these types of Negroes present, but no one will listen. Oh I get the usual bullshit from the pseudo intellectual types: "Field, why must you constantly harp on this silly house Negro field Negro dichotomy among black people. It' silly and it's pointless and it doesn't advance the cause." No, actually what doesn't advance the cause is what Negroes like Juan Williams are doing. Negroes who might be the only black person that's held up to be a black intellectual that some white guy in Iowa will ever see. Because all he [the white guy] watches is FOX News and the only other black people he sees on television or reads about in magazines are entertainers and athletes. So when he goes looking for political punditry and to try and learn something from the black point of view on issues that speaks to all of us in A-merry-ca, he gets Juan Williams.
But field why should we care what some white guy in Iowa thinks?
Because there are many white guys like that white guy in Iowa, who refuse to acknowledge that there are some serious problems in this country when it comes to race and poverty. Problems that with the right policies in place we can get on the road to solving. ( Notice I said get on the road to solving,because, ultimately, us black folks and poor people are going to have to do the bulk of the work ourselves.) But with Juan and other house Negroes shouting that everything is alright and minimizing the civil rights struggle by equating it with bullshit, solving some of the the problems that we face (like proper health care reform for all A-merry-cans) becomes that much harder.
It's funny, but is it just me, or do you all get the feeling that some people want it this way?

ReplyDeleteA few years ago I went to see Juan speak in Jacksonville, and I paid good money to hear him speak too. I was one of only very few blacks in the audience. His speech consisted of an imaginary conversation with MLK about the state of African America. All the white people just ate it up. They loved it! But it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I was sure Juan had just in so many words called me an ignorant coon.
It seems like as Juan's career has grown, he has moved further and further to the right and deeper and deeper into the house.
No it is not just you…there are people who want to keep it this way.

Our Congressmen and Senators have the best health care and retirement/pension plan paid by the taxpayers. If they had to pay into the same social security system as taxpayers and pay for private insurance like taxpayers, they would make damn sure to get it straight. Because they are on an entirely different system, they really do not give a damn about what is happening to the very people that is paying for their lucrative health care and retirement/pension benefit.
To solve the health care issue and the social security issue…simply offer the American people the same benefit they are receiving since it is our tax dollar that is paying for them.
Okay rant over…I am pissed about a change in my health care coverage I did not know about until today and the constant increases of my prescription co-pay.

It gets me how people get so upset if a poor person gets anything but will try to tell their congressman who gets free healthcare and all these perks that "socialized" medicine is wrong. It would seem possible that everyone here could have certain minimums of health and dental care, access to education and a shot at a stable home. There is enough, "It is just a distribution problem." We have to just get everyone to share more. I would hate to take away the incentive/dream of the possibility of owning six personal homes from anyone, but we need to "share" more and have "less."

Although most of us can see that black pundits like Juan Williams and Jesse Lee Peterson are on FOX to say things that O'Reilly and Hannity may think (but know they couldn't say), the stereotypical Fox News Channel viewer doesn't know any better. I'd really love to see people like Todd Boyd and Joe Madison go on the Fox News Channel and shake things up over there.

For a long time I gave Juan Williams a pass because of the whole "Eye On The Prize" thing. I used to think, "well maybe the brother needs a check." Yeah, the whole "can't knock the hustle" thing was where I would leave it.

However, President Obama’s budget for FY 2010 shows increases in the appropriations for HBCU ($250,000,000) and HBGI ($61,425,000); together, this request represents a $20,830,000 increase in the appropriation over the preceding year.
How is that "gutting" HBCU's?????
Members of Congress do not get free, socialized medicine -- they buy into the same federal employees health plan that covers all federal government workers. It's a good system, but it's not socialized -- they're paying premiums and co-pays just like everyone else. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schulz (D-FL) was on CNN recently talking about experiences with her cancer, and it turned out she has the same insurance I do: Blue Cross Basic. They do get a sweet deal on pensions, though.

@Nan you are correct that they are NOW (which was changed a few years ago) in the same system as federal employees, that does not change the fact that taxpayers, which they are, too are the reason the federal government has the best insurance. I ought to know because I benefitted from it. Now that I am on the retirement end of it the game is changing for the retirees health insurance benefit, but not for the active employees. Nonetheless, why not offer every American an opportunity to enter the same system.

To the bigger issue of the Obama hater-ade, it goes both ways. Sick Freak and Alicia Banks are right to a degree. (I know, I actually said it, God help me.) Too many folks are treating Obama like he's Jesus. Bill Maher has some salient points, there have areas where Obama needs to be bolder and less beholden to special interest, IMO. Its okay to point out where the President screwed up -- he's a big boy, he can take it. He'll even admit to his screw ups and try to fix them (see the VA/privatization idea).
ReplyDeleteBut, there are also too many folks on the left and the right who have always chomped at the bit of the idea that Obama is the anti-Christ, as suave demon in disguise who will send us all to Hell. This includes folks posting on this blog.
Between the wingnuts bashing Obama for taking his wife to dinner (I guess if he were screwing Rahm Emanuel's wife, he'd be the man) or claiming that he's Joe Stalin with a tan and the left (along with media hookers like Bill Maher and Ralph Nader) crying that Obama ain't Che (eventhough Che wasn't Che) -- its a wonder the man wanted the job in the first place.
He's been in office 6 months, a standard probation period at most white collar jobs these days. Is he perfect? No. Is he's some media obsessed loafer? Hardly. This cat went on an old school Truman whistle stop tour to promote his stimulus bill. He's an improvement over Bush and a bullet dodge on a possible Palin White House.
So lets stop writing him off as some horrible screw up or proclaiming that Obama is going to part the Potomac next week.
Its only been 160 days and he's already introduced a stimulus bill, started to close down Gitmo (which Dems caved), restarted dialogues in the Mideast and saved the auto industry from a implosion. Should he now turn water into wine or feed an entire Harlem project complex on two fried porgies and some cocoa bread before summer's end? Both sides need to get real.
First of all, is it any shock that Juan is bashing Obama and jigging for the right? Anyone who understands politics knows that being an 'Uncle Ruckus' pays handsomely. You get to gain vengeance on all of the Black kids who probably whooped your sorry behind for being the 'nerdy kid who wants to be white', live out your warped perception of parity with Massa and get paid like a journeyman NBA player.

I have not cried about his death. I feel for his family and for the family of his killer.
Let's face it; nobody got mad when Jeffrey Dahmer died and he killed FAR less people than Tiller.

I don't think Obama's European ancestry necessarily has to have anything to do with his politics. Juan Williams is the perfect example of this and I don't think he is biracial. There are plenty of black public figures and politicians whose politics are more center-right than left and they are not products of interracial relationships.

In some respects I think we need to get beyond this whole thing of someone "wanting to be white". We must admit that there are certain aspects of black identity are very self-defeating for the black community. I mean look at BET, the state of hip hop and its affects on black kids.
The behaviors often associated with "acting black" often times lead our people down the wrong road while things like getting an education and presenting oneself as something other than a thug are associated with "wanting to be white".
